WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SUDDENLY SHIMMIED FOR ABOUT 5-10 SECONDS. DEALERS HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED. CAUSE UNKNOWN. TS *TT
WINDSHIELD WIPERS FAILED INTERMITTENTLY ON DECEMBER 13, 2002 (WELL WITHIN FIRST 500 MILES OF OPERATION). FORD DEALER COULD NOT IDENTIFY PROBLEM. ON DECEMBER 14, WIPERS SUFFERED CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. WIPERS WERE SUPPOSEDLY FIXED BY FORD DEALER ON FEBRUARY 13, 2003. ACCORDING TO PO, FUSE 215 WAS NOT SEATED AND HAD BURN MARK; REPLACED FUSE, RECHECKED OPERATION. ON FEBRUARY 15, WIPERS EXPERIENCED INTERMITTENT FAILURE AGAIN (SHUT DOWN FOR APPROXIMATELY ' HOUR WITHIN FIRST 5 MINUTES OF OPERATION FOLLOWING COLD START, THEN RESUMED OPERATION).

CONSUMER STATES' THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL AND GAS PEDAL ARE TOO CLOSE. VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH THE AUTOMATIC PEDAL ADJUSTER. CONSUMER STATES HIS FOOT BECAME STUCK UNDER BRAKE PEDAL RESULTING IN CONSUMER NOT ABLE TO BRAKE. THIS RESULTED IN A REAREND COLLISION. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. TS
CONSUMER ADVISED THAT WHEN ATTEMPTING TO DEPRESS BRAKE OR ACCELERATOR PEDAL WILL DEPRESS BOTH SIMULTANEOUSLY. THIS IS DUE TO THEIR CLOSE PROXIMITY IN DESIGN. MR
2002 FORD TAURUS EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH BRAKE EQUIPMENT.*MR THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN SERVICED FOUR TIMES FOR BRAKE PROBLEMS. WHEN THE CONSUMER WOULD BRAKE THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD SHIMMY AND THE BRAKES WOULD PULSATE. EACH TIME THE BRAKE ROTORS WERE REPLACED OR RESURFACED BUT THEY WOULD FAIL AGAIN WITHIN A FEW MONTHS. *NM
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE BRAKES HAVE NOT OPERATED PROPERLY SINCE PURCHASE. THE VEHICLE WILL NOT SLOW DOWN WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. SHE MUST PUMP THE PEDAL REPEATEDLY, BUT THIS DOES NOT ALWAYS WORK. THE ROTORS AND PADS HAVE BEEN REPLACED BY THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP, AND THEY TOO WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. ALSO, THE CONTACT DETECTED FUMES COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SAME REPAIR SHOP, AND THEY DETERMINED THE RADIATOR OVERFLOW TANK HAD A CRACK ON THE BOTTOM. NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE. *AK
THE HEAT/AC CONTROL ON MY 2002 FORD TAURUS SUDDENLY STARTED WORKING ONLY ON THE HIGHEST SETTING, AND THE AIR IS NEITHER HOT NOR COLD. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET, I FOUND THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM. THE FLOOR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT ALSO BECOMES DAMP AFTER WASHING THE VEHICLE OR A HARD RAIN. I ALSO HAVE RUST INSIDE THE BLOWER MOTOR ITSELF, WHICH I AM SUSPECTING IS FROM THE WATER LEAK. *TR
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE, CONSUMER STATES' THE BRAKE PEDAL AND GAS PEDAL ARE TOO CLOSE. CONSUMER STATES IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION CONSUMER MAY PRESS GAS INSTEAD OF BRAKES, AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. CONSUMER STATED TOOK PURCHASED VEHICLE IN 2002. WITHIN THE FIRST 7 HOURS OF DRIVING CAR THE TIRES WERE CONSTANTLY LOSING AIR PRESSURE. VEHICLE WAS CHECKED BY DEALER WHO ADVISED NO PROBLEM WITH TIRES OR RIMS. IN 10/02 WHILE DRIVING THE TIRE BECAME FLAT CAUSING CONSUMER TO CRASH INTO A DITCH RESULTING IN OVER $7000 WORTH OF DAMAGE TO VEHICLE. DEALER DIAGNOSED ACCIDENT DUE TO DEFECTIVE RIMS. TS

MY DAUGHTER WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE, SHE APPLIED THE BRAKES, THE CAR LUNGED AHEAD AND HIT THE BUILDING. THE PASSENGER AIR BAG DEPLOYED AND NOT THE DRIVERS AIR BAG. SHE HAD HER SEAT BELT ON AND HIT THE STEERING WHEEL. I TALKED TO FORD AND THEY SIAD TO GO THROUGH MY INSURANCE COMPANY.*AK
THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO LOSE POWER, THE SENSOR, ALTERNATOR AND IGNITION WAS REPLACED, HOWEVER THE PROBLEM RECURRED.*JB
DEPRESSING BRAKE PEDAL AFTER REMOVING FOOT FROM ACCELERATOR, VEHICLE CONTINUES TO ACCELERATE. THE LOWER THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE FASTER THE ACCELLERATION. TWICE AT STOP SIGNALS I WAS ABLE TO PUT THE CAR INTO PARK; WHEN MOVED TO DRIVE, ALL WAS NORMAL. ON SEPT 7, IN MARIETTA GA, I WAS UNABLE TO MOVE TRANSMISSION INTO PARK. AS THE CAR WAS MOVING VERY FAST. FROM A DISTANCE OF 40 TO 50 FEET, CAR CLIMBED AN EARTHEN EMBANKMENT, OVER LARGE SHRUBS. IT STOPPED WHEN TOP WAS REACHED. I WAS ABLE GET INTO REVERSE AND BACK DOWN. A SERVICE MAN AT THE MARIETTA FORD DEALER SAID CAR WAS DRIVEABLE. AND THAT THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME AS THE BRAKE AND ACCELELRATOR PEDALS ARE CLOSE. WHEN THE DAMAGE REPAIRED IN ST. LOUIS, IT WAS MORE EXTENSIVE THAN THE ADJUSTOR HAD ESTIMATED. THIS SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED AS I WAS DRIVING TO MY HOME FROM THE REPAIR SHOP. SCARY! MR
WHILE DRIVING IN THE RAIN THE DRIVER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND HIT A TREE. AFTER IMPACT THE CONSUMER HEARD A POP AND THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. *MR *SCC *NLM
MY DAUGHTER WAS ON A RURAL HIGHWAY, HWY 83 NEAR ALMA, NEBRASKA. THREE HEAD OF CATTLE WAS STANDING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROADWAY AND SHE WAS UNABLE TO AVOID IMPACT. SHE WAS TRAVELING AT A NORMAL RATE OF SPEED, USING A LAP AND SHOULDER BELT AND SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES STRIKING ONE OF THE CATTLE, CAUSING IT TO SHEAR THE TOP OF THE HOOD, SHATTER THE WINDSHIELD, AND SHEAR THE ROOF OF THE CAR. THE DRIVER AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY AND SHE HAD NECK INJURIES AND WAS TRANSPORTED BY AMBULANCE TO A LOCAL HOSPITAL. WHEN LAW ENFORCEMENT APPROACHED THE ACCIDENT, THEY WERE CONVINCED THEY WERE WORKING A FATALITY DUE TO THE CONDITION OF THE VEHICLE. WE WERE TOLD THAT HER NECK INJURIES MIGHT HAVE NOT BEEN AS SEVERE IF THE AIRBAG HAD DEPLOYED. IT WAS A RENTAL VEHICLE FROM ENTERPRISE CAR RENTAL DUE TO THE FACT THAT HER COMPANY CAR WAS BEING REPAIRED FROM A HAILSTORM TWO-THREE MONTHS BEFORE. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL HAS TO BE HELD WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN. THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. THE CONSUMER STATES THAT SHE WAS IN THE RIGHT HAND LANE, SHE WANTED TO GET IN THE LEFT LANE AT THE STOP LIGHT TO MAKE A LEFT TURN. THE CONSUMER TRIED TO USE THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL AND IT WOULDN'T STAY ON. (HAD TO HOLD IT DOWN WITH MY LEFT HAND AND TURN WITH THE RIGHT HAND. THE SHOP AT THE DEALER CHECKED IT OUT AND STATED THAT THIS WAS HAPPENING BECAUSE OF THE AIR BAG AND THE CHIP WAS MOVED TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS IS A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT THAT NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED. *SCC

I WAS HAVING WORK DONE ON MY 2002 TAURUS WHEN MY MECHANIC PLACED THE CAR ON THE LIFT HE NOTICED THAT MY TWO REAR SPRINGS NEED TO BE REPLACED IMMEDIATELY. THE COST FOR THIS REPAIR WOULD BE $800. *TR

THERE IS A BAD ODOR COMING FROM AIR CONDITIONING (A/C) UNIT CAUSED BY MOLD/MILDEW (FROM WATER THAT SITS IN BLOWER BOX). VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN TO DEALERSHIP FOUR TIMES WITHOUT RESOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT HEALTH CONSEQUENCES IF THIS IS NOT RESOLVED. FRONT LEFT COIL SPRING BROKE AND SLASHED TIRE WITH NO WARNING AT ALL; COULD HAVE CAUSED A HORRIFIC HIGHWAY ACCIDENT WHILE TRAVELING AT 65MPH. FORD HAS RECALLED COIL SPRINGS FOR SABLES AND TAURUS MODEL OF 2001 NO FURTHER. THERE IS CLEARLY A SERIOUS PROBLEM. SNOW STATES HAVE HAD RECALLS DUE TO SALT CORROSION TO SPRING CAUSING SUDDEN FRACTURES. THE OUT COME FOR REPAIR; REPLACED COIL SPRING, SHOCK;BEARING AND NEW TIRE TOTALING 780.00. MY CONCERN NOW IS DO I REPLACE THE OTHER 3 COIL SPRINGS TO THE TUNE OF 150.00 BEFORE THE SAME ISSUE ARISES AGAIN!!! FORD SHOULD TAKE THE BLAME AND OFFER THE REPLACEMENT BEFORE TOO MANY MORE SERIOUS ACCIDENTS OCCUR. *TR

SAGGING OF REAR SUSPENSION. THE FIRST TIME I NOTICED THIS PROBLEM WAS WHEN I TOOK THE FAMILY ON A SKI TRIP 2 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE. ANYTIME AFTER THAT I GO ON A TRIP, WITH 200 LBS WORTH OF WEIGHT FOR THE THREE REAR PASSENGERS AND THREE SUITCASES THAT BARELY WEIGHT ANOTHER 200 LBS. THIS SO CALLED FAMILY CAR WHICH I PURCHASED FOR SAFE TRAVELING WITH MY FAMILY AND WHICH IS ADVERTISED AS A SAFE FAMILY CAR IS A MISNOMER. REASON: THE REAR SUSPENSION IMMEDIATELY SAGS LOW WITH THE WEIGHT I MENTIONED. I'VE TAKEN IT TO TWO DEALERS THREE TIMES AND THE SERVICE ADVISORS STATES THE REAR SUSPENSION IS NORMAL. I'VE DRIVEN AND OWNED MANY CARS BEFORE AND I NEVER HAD SUCH A PROBLEM (ALTHOUGH I HAD SEEN THAT PROBLEM IN THE OLD K CARS WITH CHRYSLER.) POINT: IN AN EMERGENCY MANEUVER I BELIEVE IT WOULD BECOME A DANGEROUS SITUATION WITH THIS CONDITION . THE CAR DRIVES UNSTABLE, TAKES BUMPS REALLY BAD, AND IN SLIGHT HIGHWAY TURNS OVER 45 MPH, THE CAR IS HARD TO CONTROL; ALL DUE TO THIS EXTRA WEIGHT. PLEASE ADVISE ME. *TT

ON FEB 3, 2008 WHILE BACKING OUT OF DRIVEWAY, MY WIFE HEARD A LOUD BANG. SHE GOT OUT AND PICKED UP A PIECE OF COIL SPRING LAYING ON THE DRIVEWAY. TOOK THE CAR TO FORD DEALER ON FEB 4, 2008. DEALER DISCOVERED BOTH REAR COIL SPRINGS BROKEN, REPLACED SAME. THIS CAR LIVES ON THE HIGHWAY. NEVER OVERLOADED, USED FOR TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM WORK. *TR

WHILE DRIVING, CONSUMER TRIED TO AVOID HITTING ANOTHER MOTORIST WHO HAD ABRUPTLY HIT THE BRAKES, CONSUMER THEN SWERVED HITTING A GUARDRAIL, THE FRONT TIRE EXPLODED, AND THE VEHICLE SPUN AROUND 6 TIMES BEFORE COMING TO A STOP, IN THE PROCESS OF THE ACCIDENT THE AIRBAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY, CONSUMER SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES.*JB
THE CAR WAS OPERATING UNDER SUNNY DRY CONDITIONS. TEMPERATURE WAS AROUND 60 DEGREES. THE ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING, CAUSING SHUTDOWN OF ALL POWER RELATED DEVICES INCLUDING STEERING AND BRAKES. THE TAURUS SEEMS TO BE MORE DIFFICULT THAN MOST CARS TO STEER WITHOUT POWERED ASSISTANCE. I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO COAST TO AN AREA WHERE I COULD SAFELY GET OFF THE ROAD. UNDER DIFFERENT CONDITIONS, THIS FAILURE COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. *AK
WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 45MPH WHEN ANOTHER VEHICLE CAME OUT AND CAUSED A T-BONE COLLISION. PASSENGER'S SIDE AIR BAG DIDN'T DEPLOY. PASSENGER WAS INJURED WITH SIX BROKEN RIBS/AN INJURED HAND, AND WAS HAVING TROUBLE BREATHING. THE PASSENGER HAD SEAT BELT RESTRAINTS ON. NO CONTACT HAS BEEN MADE TO THE MANUFACTURER.*AK
WHEN CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR A WHILE & GETS HOT, THEN YOU STOP AND GET BACK INTO IT AFTER A FEW MINUTES AND START IT BACK UP, THE CAR DOES NOT WANT TO RUN. IT'S LIKE IT IS NOT GETTING ANY GAS. IT WILL TRY TO DIE AT A STOP SIGN/LIGHT, AND WILL CHOKE AND SURGE & BOUNCE UPON ACCELLERATION. I HAVE ALMOST BEEN INVOLVED IN A SERIOUS AUTO ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THIS. I HAVE HAD IT TO THE DEALER 4 TIMES FOR REPAIRS, THEY HAVE REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP BUT, THIS DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP RECORDS SOMEHOW ONLY SHOW I'VE HAD THE CAR IN THERE 3 TIMES, I HAVE PROOF THAT I WAS IN THERE 4 TIMES. I AM SERIOUSLY CONCERNED ABOUT DRIVING THIS VEHICLE, I AM AFRAID FOR MY FAMILY'S SAFETY IF IT STALLS OUT PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC AGAIN.
