ON TWO OCCASIONS THE GAS PEDAL WOULD NOT LIFT UP AFTER ACCELERATING. THE CAR KEPT INCREASING SPEED. I APPLIED THE BRAKES, SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND TURNED OFF THE IGNITION. *TR
WHILE DRIVING WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ON, I STEPPED ON THE BRAKES TO PREPARE TO EXIT A FREEWAY. UPON TAPPING ON THE BRAKES THE CAR CONTINUED TO DRIVE AS IF THE CRUISE WAS STILL ON. I REALIZED THE CRUISE CONTROL HAD NOT SHUT OFF UPON STEPPING ON THE BRAKES. EXITING THE FREEWAY AT 60 MPH WAS NOT WHAT I WAS INTENDING TO DO. I QUICKLY PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND THE ENGINE REVVED UP. I PUSHED THE OFF BUTTON FOR THE CRUISE CONTROL WHICH DID NOTHING. I NOTICED THE ACCELERATOR FELT LIKE IT WAS STUCK. I TAPPED IT A FEW TIMES AND IT CAME LOOSE. THE ENGINE IDLED DOWN. I REFERENCED SEVERAL WEBSITES TO FIND PEOPLE WHO HAD SIMILAR ISSUES. MANY STATED THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE WILL BRAKE AND WRAP AROUND THE ACCELERATOR CAUSING IT TO STICK. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. THE CONTACT HAD TO SHIFT TO PARK AND ENGAGE THE BRAKES WITH BOTH FEET IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. ALSO, THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT ON A DIFFERENT OCCASION, THE CHECK TRANSMISSION WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 78,000.
WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE, TRYING TO SLOW DOWN TO GET OFF AT AN EXIT, AND THE CAR WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN, AND THE ENGINE WAS REVVED. FINALLY STOPPED THE CAR, AND LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD, AND THERE WAS A PIECE OF PLASTIC HOLDING THE THROTTLE OPEN. *TR
THIS INCIDENT FIRST HAPPENED WHILE I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPOT AND SINCE MANY TIMES. THE CAR GETS STUCK IN FULL THROTTLE AND SOMETIMES IMPOSSIBLE TO STOP I HAVE TO THROW INTO NEUTRAL TO KEEP FROM SLAMMING INTO VEHICLES, IT HAS TORN UP MY NEW BRAKE PADS THAT I PUT ON IN THE FALL. IT WILL BE FINE FOR A PERIOD OF TIME THEN ALL OF SUDDEN OUT OF NO WHERE THE CAR WILL GET STUCK IN FULL THROTTLE. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY A FORD MECHANIC THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE. *KB
WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND JUMPED OVER A RAISED CURB, SMASHING INTO THE WALL OF THE U.S. POST OFFICE IN DEPERE, WI. THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED AND THERE WAS $2100 IN DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. THE DAMAGE HAS SINCE BEEN REPAIRED. ON MARCH 13TH 2012, I WAS NOTIFIED BY A FRIEND THAT THERE WAS A PROBE INTO THE FORD TAURUS HAVING THIS ISSUE. I HAVE NOTIFIED FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT BROADWAY FORD IN GREEN BAY, WI AWAITING AN ANSWER AS TO WHAT CAUSED THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION. *JS
FIRST INCIDENT, 2/6/2012 - MY GAS PEDAL SEEMED TO GET STUCK AND THE RPMS WENT UP TO ABOUT 3000 WHEN DRIVING. HAD TO KEEP THE BRAKE PEDAL MASHED TO THE FLOOR WHEN I WAS AT A STOPLIGHT AS THE CAR WANTED TO PULL AWAY FROM ME. SECOND INCIDENT 3/10/2012 - AT A STOPLIGHT IN STOP-AND-GO TRAFFIC, CAR WANTED TO PULL AWAY FROM ME AND RPMS WERE ABOVE 3000. PULLED OVER TO A PARKING SPOT AND CAR WAS HARD TO GET INTO PARK. ONCE IN PARK, THE RPMS WERE OVER 5000 AND I HAD TO TAP ON THE GAS TO GET THE RPMS TO DECREASE DOWN TO 1000. I ALSO SHUT THE CAR OFF TO DROP THE RPMS. CRUISE CONTROL WILL NOW NOT WORK. PURCHASED CAR NEW IN JULY 2005, CAR ONLY HAS 78K MILES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE THROTTLE BEGAN TO STICK WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE HOWEVER, AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS THE VEHICLE REDUCED IN SPEED. THE FAILURE RECURRED EIGHT TO NINE TIMES. THERE WAS AN OPEN INVESTIGATION UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: PE12005 (SPEED CONTROL:CABLES) THAT COULD POSSIBLY HAVE BEEN RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE MALFUNCTION. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,000.
I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK GOING 25 MPH WHEN MY CAR QUICKLY ACCELERATED. I IMMEDIATELY STEPPED ON THE BRAKE AS THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE TO 45 MPH. AT THIS TIME I STARTED TO BRAKE AS HARD AS I COULD AND GOT THE CAR STOPPED AS I PULLED OVER TO THE CURB. I SHIFTED THE CAR INTO PARK AND THE ENGINE WAS REALLY RACING VIOLENTLY. I JABBED THE GAS PEDAL AND THE ENGINE SLOWED TO IDLE SPEED. I DROVE HOME WITH NO FURTHER PROBLEM. THREE DAYS LATER THIS SAME THING HAPPENED. THIS TIME I CHECKED TO SEE IF THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS ON. IT WAS NOT.!! THIS SAME THING HAPPENED 3 MORE TIMES WITHIN A FEW DAYS. I THEN TOLD MY BOYFRIEND ABOUT THIS. HE WAS VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS AND TOLD ME NOT TO DRIVE THE CAR UNTIL HE LOOKED AT IT. HE LOOKED AT THE CAR RIGHT AWAY AND FOUND THE THROTTLE CABLE AND CRUISE CONTROL CABLE FREE OF ANY RESTRICTION. HE THEN DISCONNECTED THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE. HE CALLED THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY AND TOLD THEM ABOUT THIS. THEY SAID THEY HAD NOT HEARD ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING (AT THEIR EXPENSE) TO FIX THIS. I HAVE NOT HAD THIS PROBLEM OCCUR SINCE THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE WAS DISCONNECTED!!!!! I AM SUBMITTING THIS COMPLAINT TO YOU BECAUSE I SAW ON THE NEWS THAT OTHER PEOPLE, WITH THIS SAME CAR, ARE HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM. I AM ALSO EXTREMELY CONCERNED BECAUSE IT TOOK EVERY THING I HAD TO STOP MY CAR AND THAT, IN THE WRONG LOCATION, I COULD VERY EASILY HAVE KILLED SOMEONE OR MYSELF!!!! I BELIEVE THIS TO BE A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM!!! I STRONGLY SUSPECT THAT THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEM OR COMPUTER THAT CONTROLS THE CRUISE CONTROL.
THE THROTTLE BEGAN TO STICK AROUND THE BEGINNING OF FEBRUARY 2012. THE SPEED OF THE CAR AVERAGES AROUND 50MPH WHEN THE ACCELERATION OCCURS. THE DISTANCE SEEMS TO OCCUR AFTER 10 TO 15 MILES OF TRAVEL. WHEN THIS FIRST BEGAN TO OCCUR IN FEBRUARY 2012 THERE WAS ONE OCCURRENCE THAT THE CAR HAD TO BE PUT IN NEUTRAL FOR THE ACCELERATOR TO RELEASE. ALL OTHER TIMES (TO DATE) THE ACCELERATOR WILL RELEASE WHEN THE BRAKE IS APPLIED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH IN RAINY WEATHER, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED ABNORMALLY, CAUSING THE CONTACT TO LOOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASH INTO A FENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTO SHOP FOR REPAIR TO THE BODY. THE MECHANIC DISABLED THE CRUISE CONTROL TO MINIMIZE ANY FUTURE FAILURES WITH ABNORMAL ACCELERATION. THERE WAS AN INVESTIGATION OPEN UNDER NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE12005 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:CABLES) THAT COULD POSSIBLY HAVE BEEN RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
THE CAR WOULD SPEED UP BY ITSELF FROM FAULT OF THROTTLE CONTROL ASSEMBLY, ALTERNATOR HAD TO BE REPLACED, WINDSHIELD WIPER HOSE ASSEMBLY, THE AC COMPRESSOR HAD TO BE COMPLETELY REPLACED, ACCUMULATOR OR RECEIVER DRIER HAD TO BE REPLACED, AS WELL AS REPLACEMENT OF THE COMPRESSOR DRIVE BELT, EVAPORATOR ORIFICE BELT, SERPENTINE BELT TENSIONER, IDLER PULLEY, BELT TENSIONER, ON ANOTHER RECENT OCCASION, THE FORD WAS IDLING HIGH AND WHEN DRIVING, WOULD SPEED UP TO AROUND 4000 TO 4500 RPMS, ON ITS OWN REPLACEMENT OF GASKET ALL SPARK PLUGS, VALVE ASSEMBLY, AND ANOTHER KIT 11794 TO COUNTER THE REVVING ENGINE AND THROTTLE. . ALSO THE POWER STEERING WAS OFF IN THE CAR,AND IT COULD NOT MAINTAIN AN ALIGNMENT, AS YOU DROVE THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD JERK AND SHAKE. ODD NOISES EMANATING FROM THE LEFT AND RIGHT REAR OF THE CAR RESEMBLING A WHEEL BEARING ALSO WILL PROBABLY RESULT IN FURTHER REPAIRS. THE WORK WAS DONE AT MILEAGE 85462. TODAY IT IS 102K AND THE FORD KEEPS UP WITH ITS SEEMING REPUTATION OF BEING "FOUND ON ROAD DEAD"... OR "FIX OR REPAIR DAILY". TODAY COMPLETED BY A FORD DEALER AND A MILITARY SHOP, THE TORQUE CONVERTER IS BROKEN. THE CAR WILL START AND REV, BUT WHEN PLACED IN DRIVE OR REVERSE IT WILL NOT ENGAGE AND REMAINS IN PLACE. *KB
HELLO MY WIFE'S TAURUS HAS RECENTLY STARTED TO LURCH FORWARD WHEN SHE STARTS IT. THIS HAPPENS ABOUT EVERY THIRD OR FOURTH TIME THE VEHICLE IS STARTED. ANOTHER THING WE HAVE NOTICED THAT MAY BE RELATED IS THAT WHEN THE CAR IS RUNNING WHILE IN PARK SAY AT A DRIVE THROUGH, WHEN PUTTING IT INTO DRIVE, THERE IS A LAG TIME IN THE TRANSMISSION ENGAGING INTO DRIVE THEN WHEN IT DOES ENGAGE IT POPS INTO DRIVE AS IF I WERE TO POP THE CLUTCH AND IT LURCHES FORWARD. *TR
MY WIFE HAS COMPLAINED TO ME SEVERAL TIMES ABOUT THE CAR JUST INCREASES SPEED BY ITSELF TO THE POINT IT GET NEARLY OUT OF CONTROL. SHE SAID SHE ALMOST CANNOT STOP IT WITH THE BRAKES WHEN IT DOES THIS. SHE PUTS IT INTO NEUTRAL AND THE RPM GAUGE GOES TO OVER 4000. SHE HAS HAD INTO A GARAGE TO HAVE IT CHECKED AND THEY FOUND NOTHING OTHER THAN THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE WAS LOOSE AND NEEDED TO BE SECURED. WHEN WE GOT THIS CAR THE CRUISE WORKED. I DROVE IT FOR SEVERAL DAYS AFTER SHE COMPLAINED OF THIS PROBLEM. I COULDN'T GET IT TO DO IT FOR ME BUT THE CRUISE CONTROL IS NO LONGER FUNCTIONING. I FINALLY GOT IT TO SHOW SOME FORM OF SELF INCREASING SPEED AS I WOULD GO UP A HILL. I TRIED IT A COUPLE OF TIMES AND IT WOULD INCREASE SPEED ON ITS OWN. I TAPPED THE ACCELERATOR AND IT SEEMS TO STOP INCREASING SPEED. I AM A VERY EXPERIENCED DRIVER WHERE MY WIFE IS NOT. I COULD SEE WHERE THIS COULD HAPPEN AND PANIC COULD SET IN QUICKLY. SHE WAS VERY PANICKED AND REFUSED TO DRIVE IT FOR AWHILE. *TR
THROTTLE STICKS OPEN WHEN DRIVING AND REVS TO 3000 AT A STOP WHEN PARKED. CAN'T TAKE FOOT OFF THE BRAKE OTHERWISE CAR SPEEDS UP. HAVE TO TURN ENGINE OFF AND LET SIT BEFORE STARTING AGAIN. HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES, BUT NO CODES FOUND WHEN SCANNED. *TR
AFTER ACCELERATING WHILE DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY, MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN STUCK IN THE ACCELERATION STATUS. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES SINCE JANUARY AND THE MECHANIC HAS NO ANSWER. THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE A LOOSE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE THAT HE ADJUSTED BUT THIS ONLY WORKED FOR TWO MONTHS. TODAY I HAD THE SAME EXPERIENCE. TOOK IT TO FORD THEY SAY THERE ARE NO RECALLS BUT JUST TODAY I HAD TO PUT TWO FEET ON THE BRAKES AT THE LIGHT IN ORDER TO STOP THE CAR AND AFTER I KICKED THE GAS PEDAL ABRUPTLY THE ENGINE SLOWED DOWN AND SO DID THE RPMS. *TR
TRAVELING AT 40 MPH IN CRUISE CONTROL WHEN A SUDDEN ACCELERATION OCCURRED INCREASING MY SPEED TO APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH. TURNING OFF THE CRUISE CONTROL DID NOTHING TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE NEITHER DID HITTING THE BRAKES AND DOWNSHIFTING TO A LOWER GEAR. PUSHING THE ACCELERATOR DOWN TO THE FLOOR WHILE IN NEUTRAL DID BRING THE RPM'S UP TO 6000 BUT HELPED THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION. MY IDLE RPM RETURNED TO NORMAL. I STOPPED AT A FRIEND'S HOUSE AND WE REMOVED THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE. I HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED AN ISSUE SINCE, BUT I MISS HAVING CRUISE CONTROL. 2005 FORD TAURUS OWNER. *TR
I WAS COMING TO A STOP MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE THE RPM`S SHOOT UP. I HAD TO PUT ONE FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND THE OTHER TO SLAM THE GAS TO FLOOR TO STOP IT FORM STICKING. *TR

IN ORDER TO STOP THE ACCELERATION, THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE SHUT OFF COMPLETELY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND THE FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 72,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

I PUSHED DOWN ON THE GAS PEDAL VERY HARD SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THE CAR STOPPED THE EXCESSIVE ACCELERATION. ANOTHER TIME I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT ABOUT 60 MPH AND THE CAR STARTED TO ACCELERATE, BUT I ALSO PUSHED DOWN VERY HARD SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THE ACCELERATION STOPPED. *TR

THE FAILURE HAD SINCE RECURRED ON AN INTERMITTENT BASIS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL STUCK AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AT HIGH RATES OF SPEED. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WOULD ALSO NOT RELEASE ITSELF FROM THE STUCK POSITION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT IF A RECALL WAS ISSUED HE WOULD BE NOTIFIED, BUT THERE WAS NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE THAT COULD BE OFFERED. THE CONTACT ALSO FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,000.

MY CRUISER CONTROL STOPPED WORKING AND I DID NOT HAVE TIME TO GET IT FIXED SINCE I DO NOT USE IT VERY OFTEN. SOME DAYS LATER WHEN I WAS DRIVING BACK FROM WORK, I PUSHED THE BRAKES TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN AND MY CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE BY ITSELF. WHEN I STARTED DRIVING AGAIN, THE ACCELERATION CONTINUED EVEN NOT TOUCHING THE GAS PEDAL. I BUMPED THE PEDAL FEW TIMES AND THE PROBLEM WAS STILL THERE. I HAD TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL (I HEAD THE MOTOR REVS WERE STILL THERE) AND THEM PLACE IT IN DRIVE MODE AGAIN AND BUMP THE PEDAL AGAIN AND THEM THE PROBLEM STOPPED. IT HAPPENED 3 OR 4 TIMES TOTAL IN 2 MONTHS. *TR
2005 FORD TAURUS - THROTTLE STICKS, VEHICLE WILL SPEED UP WITHOUT PUSHING ON THE GAS. THIS HAS OCCURRED NUMEROUS TIMES, QUITE SCARY REGARDLESS OF LOCATION OR SPEED. THIS HAS OCCURRED IN TOWN AND ON THE INTERSTATE. VEHICLE MUST BE PUT IN NEUTRAL AND THE GAS PEDDLE MUST BE PUSHED TO THE FLOOR TO GET VEHICLE BACK UNDER CONTROL. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY FORD TAURUS AT ABOUT 30 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY ACCELERATED UP TO 45 MPH EVEN AFTER RELEASING THE GAS PEDAL COMPLETELY. BRAKES SLOW THE CAR BUT WITH MORE RESISTANCE THAN USUAL, AND MANUALLY PARKING AND RESTARTING DID NOT HELP THE PROBLEM. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE ABOUT 5 MILES HOME WITHOUT EVER TOUCHING THE GAS, BUT OFTEN HAVING TO RIDE THE BRAKES. THE ENGINE REVS VERY HIGH (ABOUT 3,00RPM) EVEN IN PARK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APX 140,000. I DONT KNOW HOW THIS CAN PASS WITHOUT A RECALL AS I READ OF MANY OTHER INSTANCES OF THIS WITH MY YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL. *TR
MY DAUGHTER CALLED ME FRANTIC WHEN THE CAR STARTED ACCELERATING BY ITSELF WHEN DRIVING ABOUT 35MPH. SHE MANAGED TO SLOW DOWN THE VEHICLE WITH THE BRAKES AND WENT TO A NEAR PARKING LOT. SHE PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND THE ENGINE WAS AT ABOUT 4000 RPM AND THEN SHE TURNED OFF THE CAR. WHEN I ARRIVED 20MIN LATER I STARTED THE CAR AND THE ENGINE WAS INDEED AT 4000RPM WHILE IN PARK. I TAP TWICE ON THE GAS PEDAL AND THE ENGINE WENT BACK TO NORMAL RANGE (BELOW 1000). I DECIDED TO DRIVE IT HOME. DURING THAT DRIVE ABOUT 6 MILES THE CAR REPEATED THE INCIDENT. I WENT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TAP ON THE GAS PEDAL AND AGAIN UNSTUCK THE PEDAL. NEXT DAY I FOUND THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE WAS DISCONNECTED AT THE THROTTLE CAM. I RECONNECTED IT BUT WHEN I ASKED MY KID TO REV UP THE ENGINE IT CAME OUT AGAIN AND BLOCKED THE THROTTLE CAM FROM RETURNING ALL THE WAY AND STUCK AT HIGH RPM. THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE GOT REPLACED AND ISSUED IS SOLVED.

THEY SAID THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE NEEDED REPLACEMENT AND I HAD THE WORK DONE. SEVERAL WEEKS LATER IT STARTED DOING IT AGAIN WITH ME AND MY WIFE DRIVING IT. I TOOK IT TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHO SAID THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE AND THAT HE HAD FIXED IT. A FEW DAYS LATER DID IT AGAIN THIS TIME WITH MY DAUGHTER DRIVING THE CAR AND THEN WITH ME AGAIN WHEN I DROVE IT OUT OF INCREDULITY THAT THIS COULD BE HAPPENING AGAIN. I TOOK IT TO THE PRIVATE MECHANIC AGAIN AND AFTER DISCUSSION OF THE ISSUE DECIDED TO DISCONNECT THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE. THERE HAS BEEN NOT A SINGLE INSTANCE OF THIS PROBLEM AGAIN AFTER TWO YEARS OF DRIVING THE CAR WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL DISCONNECTED. *TR

THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE HIMSELF AND REPLACED THE IDLE CONTROL MODULE. THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 118,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 119,490 DATED 04/06/12*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE CONTROL VALVE WAS REPLACED. HOWEVER, THAT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY GOING ABOUT 65 MILES PER HOUR AND THE CAR JUST BEGAN TO SPEED UP AND THE PEDDLE LEFT FROM MY FOOT AND I HAD TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND PUNCH ON THE PEDDLE TO TRY TO STOP IT FROM GOING TO 100. WE PURCHASED THIS USED 2005 FORD TAURUS VEHICLE FROM A NEIGHBOR WHO STATED THAT HE HAS HAD "A PROBLEM WITH THE ACCELERATOR OCCASIONALLY GETTING STUCK, AND HE FREQUENTLY KEEPS IT LUBRICATED TO HELP WITH THE PROBLEM", UPON THE TEST DRIVE PRIOR TO OUR PURCHASE WE DID NOT ENCOUNTER THE PROBLEM SO WE PURCHASED IT WITH 87,886 MILES ON IT. WE IMMEDIATELY STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS THAT WEEK WHEN WE STARTED DRIVING IT ON A DAILY BASIS. THE PROBLEMS THAT WE HAD WERE SUDDEN ACCELERATION AT LOW DRIVING SPEEDS OF 25 MILES PER HR. THAT RESISTED AND WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN UPON BRAKING AND ONLY SLOWED DOWN UPON HARD BRAKING AND BY PUTTING THE CAR IN NEUTRAL, THIS SUDDEN ACCELERATION ALSO OCCURRED AT SPEEDS OF 35 MILES PER HR. AND WHILE THE CAR WAS IN PARK !!! THERE WAS NO CORRELATION BETWEEN THIS SUDDEN ACCELERATION AND THE GAS PEDALS POSITION. WE WENT ONLINE TO INVESTIGATE THE PROBLEM AND FOUND OUT THAT NUMEROUS CAR OWNERS HAVE HAD THE SAME COMPLAINTS, BUT NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE ABOUT IT ALL THESE YEARS, ONE PERSON ONLINE RECOMMENDED DISCONNECTING THE CRUISE CONTROL BECAUSE IT WORKED FOR HIM. WE IMMEDIATELY DISCONNECTED THE CRUISE CONTROL AND THE PROBLEM WITH THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION CEASED, BUT EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE THE CAR'S ENGINE GETS A SUDDEN SURGE LIKE IT IS BEING "REV VED UP". IT WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE A VEHICLE THAT PERFORMED PROPERLY AND WAS NOT A SAFETY DANGER ON THE ROAD. SHORTLY AFTER RESTARTING THE CAR, THE ACCELERATION STARTED AGAIN. EVENTUALLY, THE ACCELERATION STARTED ACTING NORMALLY. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE, BUT NOW WHEN THE CAR STARTS TO ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN I LIGHTLY TAP THE GAS PEDAL AND THE ACCELERATION STOPS. AROUND THE SAME TIME AS THE PROBLEM WITH THE ACCELERATION I ALSO NOTICED THAT WHEN I FIRST START THE CAR, THE ENGINE REVS UP REALLY HIGH AND I HAVE TO LET IT RUN FOR A FEW MINUTES UNTIL IT STOPS REVVING UP. *TR
FOR THE PAST FEW MONTHS, I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE ISSUES WITH MY TAURUS NOT WANTING TO SLOW DOWN. I WOULD BE DRIVING, AND RELEASE THE GAS PEDAL, EITHER TO COME TO A STOP OR ENTER A SLOWER SPEED AREA, AND IT WOULD JUST KEEP ACCELERATING. I TRIED TO PRESS ON THE BRAKE, AND IT DIDN'T WORK. MY CAR JUST KEPT GOING. COMING TO A STOP LIGHT, I HAD TO POUND ON THE BRAKES, AND HOLD THEM DOWN EXTREMELY HARD - WHILE MY CAR WAS FIGHTING ME TO KEEP GOING. I PULLED ONTO A SIDE STREET, AND BROUGHT MY CAR TO A STOP, AND PUT IT IN PARK - AND IT STILL KEPT TRYING TO ACCELERATE! IT WENT UP TO OVER 4 RPM!. I HAD TO STOMP ON MY GAS, AS IF I WAS REVVING MY ENGINE AND IT UNFROZE AND WENT BACK TO NORMAL. I DROVE BACK TO WORK THINKING I WAS GOING TO DIE!!! I WAS TERRIBLY AFRAID TO DRIVE MY CAR, BUT IT WAS MY ONLY WAY TO GO TO AND FROM WORK. I AM ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE WHO ARE HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL AND/OR ACCELERATOR STICKING WHILE DRIVING. MY PROBLEMS STARTED ON DECEMBER 5, 2011. I WORK FOR FORD, AND WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK AT MICHIGAN ASSEMBLY. I PULLED UP TO A STOPLIGHT ON US-12 ABOUT 8 AM, AND MY CAR WAS IDLING AT 3800 RPM! IT SEEMED THAT SOMETHING LET GO AFTER THAT. SINCE THEN, IT HAS STUCK HERE AND THERE. I ALMOST HIT A SUV IN FRONT OF ME YESTERDAY, AND ALMOST BLEW THROUGH A STOPLIGHT THE NIGHT BEFORE ON THE WAY HOME. I HAD TO LITERALLY STAND ON THE BRAKES! I HAVE DONE A LITTLE RESEARCH, AND BELIEVE THAT THE PROBLEM IS MORE THAN JUST A STICKING CABLE. I UNPLUGGED THE CONNECTION FROM THE BRAIN BOX TO THE SERVO, AND THAT SEEMED TO ALLEVIATE THE PROBLEM SOMEWHAT. UNFORTUNATELY, IT ALSO ELIMINATES THE HORN! BLIPPING THE ACCELERATOR SOMETIMES HELPS, BUT THE OTHER DAY WHEN I DID IT, THE PEDAL FELT MUSHY AND UNRESPONSIVE FOR THE THREE TIMES THAT IT STUCK. I THINK THAT FORD SHOULD REPLACE THE WHOLE ASSEMBLY IN ANYONE'S CAR THAT HAS EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM. IT CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS! IT SEEMS THAT THE COMPONENTS WEAR OUT AFTER SO MANY YEARS. DUE TO VIBRATION OR ENVIRONMENT, I'M NOT SURE. I HAVE REPLACED EVERY SENSOR IN THE INTAKE TRACT. I TOOK IT TO A GARAGE LAST WEEK. SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER TRANSMISSION POWER/BURNING SMELL. DRIVING IN MADISON WISCONSIN, THE 2005 FORD TAURUS SUDDENLY LOST POWER. I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO A STOP, BUT NEEDED TO BE TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP. THE SYMPTOMS, TRANSMISSION ID AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS ARE THE SAME AS THE TRANSMISSION ISSUES WITH FREESTAR AND OTHER FORD MINIVANS/AUTOS. UPON CONSULTING WITH A FORD AUTHORIZED DEALER, THE ONLY REMEDY IS TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. WHEN PRESSED FOR AN ANSWER, THEY DESCRIBED THE SAME SITUATION AS THE CURRENT RECALL ... AND STATED THAT MY TAURUS TRANSMISSION WAS THE SAME TRANSMISSION .. MOST LIKELY WITH THE SAME ISSUE. *TR
TRANSMISSION WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING ON A BUSY STREET. TOWED TO A FORD DEALERSHIP AND THE MECHANIC CLAIMED THE DIAGNOSTICS INDICATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION PUMP WENT OUT. THIS MAY HAVE CAUSED OTHER TRANSMISSION COMPONENTS TO GO OUT AS WELL. WITH ONLY 104,000 MILES, THE MECHANIC SUGGESTS A NEW TRANSMISSION BE INSTALLED. *TR

THE ACCELERATOR WILL OFTEN GET STUCK AND REV THE ENGINE IN UPWARDS OF 4K RPM, EVEN IF STOPPED. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE NEARLY RUN INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT. THE SAME TIME THIS ISSUE CAME TO LIGHT, THE CRUISE CONTROL NO LONGER WORKS, AND I BELIEVE THE ISSUES ARE RELATED. *TR

IN FEBRUARY 2012, MY ALTERNATOR WENT OUT, SO AFTER INSTALLING A NEW ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY, MY CRUISE CONTROL ONCE AGAIN NO LONGER WORKED AND MY CAR STARTING ACCELERATING ITSELF UP THE HILL. EVENTUALLY, MY CRUISE CONTROL BEGAN WORKING AGAIN, BUT I AM VERY WORRIED ABOUT THE TIME I MAY NOT BE ABLE TO STOP MY CAR FROM ACCELERATING. EA09016 THIS RECALL SHOULD BE EXPANDED TO INCLUDE ALL MODELS OF CAR VEHICLE WITH THIS TRANSMISSION/ISSUE NOT JUST MINI VANS. THERE ARE QUITE A NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. WE HAD THE SAME ISSUE AND DURING MY INVESTIGATION THIS APPEARS TO BE TRANSMISSION (TORQUE CONVERTER RELATED) NOT VEHICLE MAKE AND MODEL RELATED. STOPPED AT LIGHT, CAR STARTED TO REV RPM'S. COULD NOT HOLD ON BRAKES ENOUGH TO STOP MOVING. WENT THROUGH RED LIGHT AROUND TWO CARS AS SPEED REACHED ABOUT 70MPH. BOTH FEET ON BRAKES, COULD SMELL THEM BURNING, GOT TO SIDE OF ROAD AND SLAMMED INTO PARK AND TURNED CAR OFF. WOW, THE SCARIEST THING I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED. IF THERE WAS HEAVY TRAFFIC SOMEONE WOULD HAVE BEEN KILLED, NO DOUBT IN MY MIND .HAPPENED ON THRUWAY TWO WEEKS EARLIER, ONLY LASTED A MINUTE, THOUGHT THE MAT WAS STUCK, IT WAS NOT. CALLED FORD AND THEY COULD NOT HELP AS THERE IS NO RECALL. TOOK IT TO FORD DEALER, THEY DISCONNECT CRUSIE CABLE. DON'T KNOW IF THIS WAS REALLY THE PROBLEM, JUST GOT IT BACK. I AM VERY FEARFUL TO DRIVE IT, BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN IT WILL DO IT AGAIN. PLEASE SOMEONE MAKE FORD WAKE UP ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED. THE TRANSMISSION ON MY SIX YEAR OLD VEHICLE FAILED AFTER ONLY 79,000 MILES. THERE ARE MULTIPLE REPORTED INCIDENTS OF TRANSMISSION FAILURE FOR THE 2005 FORD TAURUS (PLEASE SEE HTTP://WWW.CARCOMPLAINTS.COM/FORD/TAURUS/2005/TRANSMISSION/TRANSMISSION_FAILURE.SHTML FOR A LIST OF SIMILAR INCIDENTS). I BELIEVE THAT NHTSA NEEDS TO CONDUCT A FULL INVESTIGATION OF FORD MOTOR COMPANY TO ENSURE THAT IT IS FOLLOWING SAFETY AND CONSTRUCTION STANDARDS. SURELY, A DEFECTIVE AND FAULTY TRANSMISSION IS NOT WHAT CONSUMERS SHOULD EXPECT WHEN PURCHASING A VEHICLE. I NOTIFIED FORD MOTOR COMPANY ABOUT THIS ISSUE, AND THEY REFUSE TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THEIR VEHICLE. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS DEFECT, AND COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY AND LOSS OF HUMAN LIFE. SINCE FORD REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE ITS RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE ISSUE, I EXPECT THE NHTSA, AS A GOVERNMENT AGENCY, TO FULFILL ITS RESPONSIBILITY TO CONSUMERS TO INVESTIGATE THE CONSTRUCTION AND SAFETY OF 2005 FORD TAURUS TRANSMISSIONS.
