COMING FROM AN IDLE, CAR ACCELERATED BY ITSELF. PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND RPMS CONTINUED TO 3000 RPM. 3 DAYS LATER, SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN AT STOP SIGN. *JS
CAR CONTINUED ACCELERATING AFTER TAKING FOOT OFF GAS PEDAL. SLOWED CAR DOWN. PULLED OFF ROAD AND STOPPED AND PUT IN PARK. ENGINE ROARED. TURNED OFF CAR. AFTER A FEW MINUTES RESTARTED CAR BUT ENGINE STILL ROARED. CAR BUCKED AND LURCHED. STOMPED ON GAS PEDAL TO STOP ENGINE SURGE. HAVE TAKEN CAR TO FORD DEALER 5 TIMES AND EACH TIME THEY TELL ME IT IS FIXED ONLY FOR IT TO HAPPEN AGAIN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE HAD A DIFFICULT TIME STOPPING THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING DOWNHILL. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THERE WAS AN INCREASE IN THE ENGINE RPMS AND THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD. THIS WAS THE SECOND OCCURRENCE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE CABLE FOR THE CRUISE CONTROL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 72,500.
WITH MY WIFE AND SON DRIVING THROUGH A PARKING LOT COMING TO MEET ME, MY WIFE PULLS UP TO PARK THE CAR AND I SEE SHE IS STRUGGLING TO STOP THE CAR (5-10MPH) AND I CAN HEAR THE BRAKES. SHE IS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR AND JAMMED IT INTO PARK. THE ENGINE SURGES AND I CAN HEAR IT REVVING. LOOKING INSIDE THE CAR I SEE IT REVVING TO 4,000 RPM (IN PARK). I OPEN THE HOOD WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING AND INSPECT. I FIND THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE JAMMED IN SUCH A WAY THAT IT IS FORCING THE THROTTLE TO BE WIDE OPEN AND THE ACCELERATOR CABLE IS INEFFECTIVE. NOT THINKING TO MUCH ABOUT IT I RECONNECT THE CABLE AND SHUT OFF THE CAR. TWO DAYS LATER WHILE I AM DRIVING THE CAR THE SAME ISSUE HAPPENS AT HIGHWAY SPEED. I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND OBSERVE THE ENGINE SPEED AT 4,000 RPM. I OPEN THE HOOD AND AGAIN FIND THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE JAMMED LEAVING THE THROTTLE WIDE OPEN. I REMOVE THE PLASTIC COVER FOR THE THROTTLE. WITH THE ENGINE OFF AT THIS POINT, I AM ABLE TO INDUCE THE THROTTLE STICKING DUE TO THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE. I SECURED THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE SO IT DOES NOT INTERFERE WITH THE THROTTLE. I TOOK THE CAR TO RICHMOND FORD AND PROVIDE THE VIN TO SOMEONE IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO SEARCH FOR APPLICABLE RECALLS FOR THIS VEHICLE, THERE ARE NONE CURRENTLY. THIS VEHICLE IS IN GOOD REPAIR AND I AM THE OWNER FROM 22,000 MILES. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO SUCCESSFULLY STOP THE VEHICLE BY APPLYING THE BRAKES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAUILRE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 106,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS ENGAGED AND IT BECAME STUCK. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT SHE HAD TO MANUALLY PULL THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IN ORDER TO SLOW DOWN THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 117,000.
MY THROTTLE HAS BEGUN STICKING ON A REGULAR BASIS, AND THIS STARTED AT THE SAME TIME MY CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, MY ACCELERATOR WILL INCREASE ON ITS OWN UNTIL I LIGHTLY TAP THE GAS PEDAL A COUPLE OF TIMES. THIS ALSO HAPPENED SEVERAL MONTHS AGO (JULY 2011), BUT I HAD A REAR-END COLLISION (NOT DUE TO THIS PROBLEM) THAT CAUSED EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END. AFTER THE GARAGE REPAIRED MY CAR, BOTH THROTTLE AND CRUISE CONTROL WERE WORKING FINE FOR THE NEXT NINE MONTHS, BUT NOW THE PROBLEM HAS STARTED AGAIN. A LOCAL GARAGE HAS SAID THEY CAN FIND NO CAUSE. *TR
WHEN TRAVELING MY DAILY DRIVE TO WORK, I FIRST NOTICED THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT ENGAGE. MY RETURN TRIP HOME ON THE SAME DAY WAS FRIGHTENING. I WAS TRAVELING AT APPROX. 35-40 MPH. WHEN I TRIED TO SLOW THE CAR DOWN AS I DESCENDED A HILL, THE CAR INSTEAD ACCELERATED. THIS HAPPENED ONE MORE TIME IN MY 25 MINUTE DRIVE. I STOPPED AT THE BANK DRIVE THROUGH, WITH MY CAR STILL IN DRIVE, BUT WITH MY FOOT ON THE BREAK. THE CAR TRIED TO ADVANCE AND I HAD TO STAND ON THE BRAKE HARD AND PUT THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL. THIS SAME ACCELERATION HAPPENED AGAIN WHILE I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AT CLOSE TO 65 MPH. REALLY FRIGHTENING! WE LET THE CAR SIT FOR A WEEK AND MY HUSBAND, WHO IS A MECHANIC, TOOK THE CAR TO WORK TO SEE IF IT WOULD HAPPEN TO HIM. ON HIS FOURTH DAY OF DRIVING THE CAR, IT DID IT TO HIM AS WELL - WHILE TRAVELING ON A HEAVILY CONGESTED HIGHWAY. WE STARTED TO LOOK ON LINE TO SEE HOW TO FIX THIS AND I SEE THAT IT IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR. I CHECKED THE FORD WEBSITE AND THERE IS NOT A RECALL, BUT THERE SHOULD BE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 40 MPH AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKES WHEN THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED. THE CONTACT THEN NOTICED THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL HAD BECOME STUCK IN OPEN THROTTLE. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO RELEASE THE PEDAL BY PULLING IT FORWARD AS THE ENGINE RPMS INCREASE EXCESSIVELY. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO HER RESIDENCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
I PULLED ONTO A STATE ROUTE AND ACCELERATED TO GET UP TO HIGHWAY SPEED. THE LIGHT I WAS APPROACHING TURNED YELLOW, SO I WENT FROM THE GAS TO THE BRAKE PEDAL. I REALIZED VERY QUICKLY I WAS NOT SLOWING DOWN NEARLY FAST ENOUGH TO STOP IN TIME AND WAS GOING TO HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME IN A FEW SECONDS. I ASSUMED THE BRAKES WERE FAILING. I LOOKED DOWN TO TRY TO DOWN SHIFT THE CAR AND REALIZED THE CAR WAS RUNNING AT APPROXIMATELY 2800 RPM. I PUT MY LEFT FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND MOVED MY RIGHT FOOT BACK TO THE ACCELERATOR. I COULD FEEL THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS STILL DEPRESSED. I PLACED MY FOOT UNDER THE PEDAL, BUT I COULD NOT LIFT IT UP. I THEN PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR DOWN FURTHER AND RELEASED IT. THIS TIME THE PEDAL CAME BACK TO NORMAL POSITION AND I WAS ABLE TO STOP. WHEN I PULLED OVER AND LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD, THE CABLE FOR THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT ATTACHED TO THE THROTTLE ARM. I TRIED REATTACHING THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE, BUT CONNECTOR WAS WORN OUT AND IT WOULD NOT STAY ATTACHED. I TUCKED THE LOOSE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE UNDER A WIRE IN ORDER TO GET HOME.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS COASTED TO THE SHOULDER AND TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC WHICH LOCATED THE FAILURE AT THE TORQUE CONVERTER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. I WAS GETTING OFF THE FREEWAY AND THE CAR STARTED TO GO FASTER AND MY FOOT WAS NOT ON THE ACCELERATOR. *TR
HAPPENED TWICE WITHIN FIFTEEN MINUTES- DRIVING ON RESIDENTIAL STREET WHEN ENGINE STARTED REVVING VERY HIGH. WAS ABLE TO USE BRAKES TO MAINTAIN CONTROL AND THEN PRESS HARD ON GAS PEDAL TO STOP THE REVVING. THE CRUISE CONTROL IS INOPERATIVE (TOOK TO SHOP, THEY REPORTED THE CABLE IS UNATTACHED). *TR

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT SHE WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE BY CONTINUOUSLY DEPRESSING THE BRAKE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES AND IN SOME CASES, THE CONTACT HAD TO SHIFT TO PARK TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSIS AND HE REQUESTED THE DEALER TO DISCONNECT THE CRUISE CONTROL BUT COULD NOT CONFIRM IF THAT WOULD REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT OFFERED LITTLE ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 69,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91,000.
THE MILEAGE LISTED IS APPROXIMATE AS THE CAR IS STILL IN FOR SERVICING. ON THE MORNING OF 3/14/2012, I WAS SLOWING DOWN TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT. THE CAR FELT LIKE IT WAS STILL ACCELERATING, AS IF THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS ON. I HIT THE BRAKES BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. I ENDED UP HAVING TO HOLD THE BRAKE DOWN TO THE FLOOR TO MAKE THE CAR COME TO A STOP. I TRIED SHIFTING INTO NEUTRAL AND THE RPMS SHOT UP TO 4. I SHIFTED BACK INTO DRIVE AND THE CAR STILL TRIED TO ACCELERATE. THE WHOLE TIME AT THE RED LIGHT, THE ENGINE WAS REVVING AND THE BRAKE FELT LIKE IT WAS FIGHTING THE ACCELERATOR. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE CAR ACCELERATED. I PULLED OFF INTO A PARKING LOT AND HELD THE BRAKE TO THE FLOOR AGAIN TO MAKE IT STOP. I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND THE RPMS SHOT UP AGAIN. I PUT IT IN PARK AND THE RPMS WERE GOING TO 5. I TURNED THE CAR OFF THINKING THAT MAY RESET WHATEVER THE ISSUE WAS. I WAITED 5 MINUTES BEFORE TURNING THE CAR BACK ON AND WHEN I DID, THE RPMS AGAIN SHOT UP TO 4. I CALLED THE NEAREST FORD DEALERSHIP TO MAKE ARRANGEMENTS FOR SERVICE AND STARTED THE CAR AGAIN. THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I SHIFTED INTO DRIVE AND AS SOON AS I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE THE CAR ACCELERATED. THE CAR SEEMED TO BE STUCK IN CRUISE CONTROL, FULLY ACCELERATING. THE CAR WAS TAKEN STRAIGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WHEN THE TECHNICIAN STARTED THE VEHICLE, HE EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE. AFTER A DIAGNOSTIC TEST, THE TECHNICIAN TOLD ME THAT THE ISSUE WAS WITH THE AIR INTAKE AND ALSO STATED THERE WAS AN ELECTRONIC UPDATE FOR THE TAURUS AVAILABLE. I ASKED IF THIS WOULD CORRECT THE ACCELERATION ISSUE AND HE STATED THAT IT SHOULD. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO HAVE ONE FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL IN ORDER TO PREVENT THE VEHICLE FROM ACCELERATING ABNORMALLY. THE FAILURE WOULD CAUSE A SPIKE IN RPMS AND THE CONTACT WOULD ALSO HAVE TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,000. UPDATED 05/11/12 *BF ACCORIND TO THE INVOICE, TE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE WAS COMING LOOSE FROM THE THROTTLE BODY ON ACCELERATION. THE CABLE LOCK WAS NO LONGER RETAINING THE CABLE TO THE THROTTLE BODY.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN FREEWAY WHEN CAR KEPT ACCELERATING AFTER I HAD TAKEN FOOT OFF OF GAS PEDAL. EXITED FREEWAY AND HAD TO USE BOTH FEET ON BRAKE PEDAL TO GET CAR TO SLOW DOWN. AT THIS POINT, THE ENGINE RPM'S WERE STUCK AT 4000 AND ENGINE WAS REVVING AS HIGH AS IT COULD GO. I MANAGED TO GET CAR HOME AND AT THAT POINT, I STARTED CAR BACK UP AND THE ENGINE WAS STILL REVVING ALL THE WAY UP TO 4000 RPM'S. SO, I STEPPED ON THE GAS PEDAL ( WHILE IN PARK ) A FEW TIMES AND IT RETURNED TO NORMAL RPM'S. BUT NOW, I CANNOT USE THE CRUISE CONTROL. THIS HAS HAPPENED 2 TIMES SO FAR. THE SECOND TIME I WAS ON RESIDENTIAL STREET AND I TURNED A CORNER AND CAR WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN WHEN I APPLIED BRAKES. SO I SIMPLY PUT CAR IN NEUTRAL AND SUDDENLY THE ENGINE BEGIN TO REV UP TO 4000 RPM'S AGAIN SO I STEPPED ON GAS PEDAL ABOUT 10 TIMES AND EVENTUALLY IT RETURNED TO NORMAL RPM LEVELS. *TR

THE FAILURE RESULTED IN A MINOR CRASH WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. ACCELERATED TO 30 MPH AND THE THROTTLE STUCK AT THAT SPEED. BRAKES WOULD HOLD IT BUT THE THROTTLE WAS STUCK OPEN AT 30 MPH. WENT TO LOCAL GARAGE AND THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE HAD COME OFF. THEY RECONNECTED AND IT IS HOLDING SO FAR. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. I WAS GOING UP HILL AND THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC. OTHER CONDITIONS OR STICKING AT HIGHER SPEED WOULD CAUSE CRASH. *TR

I WAS DRIVING IN SUBURBAN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, 35-40MPH, SLOWED FOR RED LIGHT AND ENGINE STARTED RACING. RPMS OVER 2000, CAR WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN. I HAD TO LITERALLY "STAND" ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO PREVENT HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. MY CAR THEN SLOWED DOWN TO ABOUT 5-10 MPH, I SHIFTED TO NEUTRAL AND TURNED ENGINE OFF. THERE I SAT, TRAUMATIZED, BLOCKING TRAFFIC FOR SEVERAL MINUTES, BEFORE RESTARTING ENGINE, PULLING OFF ROAD AND TURNING ENGINE OFF AGAIN. AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES I RESTARTED AND DROVE TO MY DESTINATION WITHOUT PROBLEM RECURRING. THERE WERE NO ENGINE WARNING LIGHTS. THIS WAS SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED, ODDLY ENOUGH AT ABOUT THE SAME LOCATION IN MY COMMUTE (AFTER ABOUT 20 MINUTES OF DRIVING). INITIALLY THE CRUISE CONTROL ON THE CAR WAS INTERMITTENT ON AND OFF FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. HOWEVER ON THE DATE OF THE INCIDENT WHILE ON THE EXIT RAMP EXITING THE INTERSTATE THE CAR RPM DID NOT DECREASE BELOW APPROXIMATELY 2500 RPM AFTER LETTING OFF OF THE ACCELERATOR AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKE. TO GET THE CAR TO STOP THE BRAKE HAD TO BE HELD DOWN AS HARD AS POSSIBLE. WHEN THE BRAKE WAS RELEASED THE CAR TOOK OFF AT A FAST RATE OF SPEED. IT ACTED AS IF THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS ACTIVE, BUT PRESSING THE CRUISE OFF OR THE BRAKE WOULD NOT TURN IT OFF. WHEN THE CAR WAS PLACED INTO PARK THE RPM WENT TO APPROXIMATELY 3500 RPM. FURTHER EXAMINATION IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WAS DONE. AFTER REMOVING THE THROTTLE BODY SHIELD THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE WAS DETACHED FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE THROTTLE BODY. TO FIX THIS THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE WAS REATTACHED TO THE THROTTLE BODY AND SECURED IN PLACE WITH TWO TIE STRAPS. THE RUNAWAY CAR BEHAVIOR HAS NOT HAPPENED SINCE. *TR
THE FIRST INCIDENT MY BROTHER WAS ALONE AND DRIVING THE CAR. HE ACCELERATED AFTER STOPPING FOR A TRAFFIC SIGNAL. WITHIN ABOUT 50 YARDS THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE UP TO 4000 RPM. HE PULLED OFF TO A TURNING LANE AND HAD TO HOLD HIS FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO AVOID HITTING ANOTHER VEHICLE. FINALLY HE PUT THE CAR IN PARK. MY BROTHER PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR TO ABOUT 45 MPH FROM A STOP SIGN INTERSECTION AND THE ENGINE REVVED UP TO 4000 RPM AGAIN.
