SUDDEN ACCELERATION PROBLEMS. *TR
ABOUT A MONTH AGO WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, AFTER ACCELERATING, THE VEHICLE WANTED TO KEEP ACCELERATING. I MAINTAINED SPEED BY BRAKING. I PUMPED THE GAS PEDAL A FEW TIMES WHICH SEEMED TO FIX THE ISSUE. THIS OCCURRED A FEW MORE TIMES OVER A MONTHS PERIOD. THE BEGINNING OF JULY 2014 THE SAME THING HAPPENED BUT PUMPING THE GAS WAS INEFFECTIVE. I BRAKED AND PULLED OFF THE ROAD. I PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK WHICH MADE THE RPMS GO QUITE HIGH AND THEN SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. I LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD AND FOUND A CABLE DISCONNECTED GOING TO THE THROTTLE WHICH I BELIEVE IS PART OF THE CRUISE CONTROL. I RECONNECTED THE CABLE AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME. TODAY I WENT TO THE FORD DEALER TO DISCUSS THE ISSUE. THEY GAVE ME THE CONTACT INFO FOR FORD OWNER AND I OPENED A CASE. FORD SAID THERE IS CURRENTLY NO RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE. CURRENTLY THE CAR SEEMS OK BUT THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT AND IM NOT SURE IF THE CABLE WILL DISCONNECT AGAIN. INCIDENT WAS A BIT NERVE RACKING BUT COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUS IF I NEEDED TO BAKE QUICKLY. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 05 TAURUS TODAY AND I NOTICED THAT I DID NOT HAVE TO PUSH THE PEDAL TO KEEP GOING. I LET OFF THE GAS AND THE CAR KEPT ACCELERATING AND I HAD TO BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN. I PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND THE ENGINE WHINNED OUT AT 4000 RPM'S. I HAD TO HIT THE GAS PEDAL TWO OR THREE TIMES FOR IT TO SETTLE DOWN. IT WOULD GO OKAY FOR A WHILE AND THEN START UP AGAIN. I WONDERED WHY MY BRAKES WERE WEARING DOWN SO FAST. THIS IS MY WIFE'S CAR AND SHE NORMALLY DRIVES IT ALL THE TIME. SHE DID NOT TELL ME IT WAS ACTING UP BECAUSE SHE THOUGHT SHE BROKE IT! THANK GOD SHE DID NOT HAVE A WRECK. I HAVE DEEMED THE CAR NOW UNDRIVEABLE TILL IT GOES IN THE SHOP. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND FORD SHOULD TAKE CARE OF IT. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ALONG AND ALL OF SUDDEN MY CAR FELT LIKE AN OUT OF BODY EXPERIENCE AND WAS ACCELERATING FASTER THAN I WAS GOING. I WAS ABLE TO COME TO A STOP AFTER APPLYING THE BRAKES VERY HARD. SHUT THE CAR OFF - STARTED IT AGAIN 2 DIFFERENT TIME AND THE TACHOMETER WENT UP TO 3 RPM - ON THE THIRD TRY I TAPPED THE GAS PEDAL AND THE RPM'S CAME DOWN. I DROVE HOME (APPROX. 8 MILES) SAFELY WITHOUT ANY FURTHER INCIDENTS. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY - I TOLD THEM WHAT HAD OCCURRED AND I ALSO MENTIONED THAT MY CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT WORKING. (THIS IS THE THIRD TIME I HAD TROUBLE WITH MY CRUISE CONTROL) THEY ARE REPLACING THE THROTTLE CONTROL BODY AND SPEED CONTROL CABLE. I AM NOW WAITING TO HEAR FROM THEM TO PICK UP MY CAR. WHAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND IS THIS - IF IT IS KNOWN THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE GAS PEDAL STICKING WHY HAS THERE NOT BEEN A RECALL. ARE YOU WAITING UNTIL SOME SERIOUS ACCIDENT OCCURS OR FOR A FATALITY? I AM JUST GLAD I WAS NOT ON A CONGESTED HIGHWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED - IT WAS 9:00 PM AT NIGHT ON MY WAY HOME AFTER VISITING MY SONS AND BELIEVE ME WHEN I SAY I WAS QUITE UPSET AND SHAKING WHEN THIS OCCURRED. WHILE DRIVING WITH MY TWO YOUNG CHILDREN IN THE CAR ON THE FREEWAY, I NOTICED THAT I SEEMED TO KEEP PICKING UP SPEED EVEN AFTER I HAD TAKEN MY FOOT OFF THE GAS PEDAL. I FIRST ATTEMPTED TO PUSH AND PULL ON THE GAS PEDAL THINKING IT WAS STUCK BUT NO SUCCESS, I THEN ATTEMPTED TO PULL OFF THE FREEWAY AND TURN THE ENGINE OFF BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT COME TO A COMPLETE STOP WHILE PUSHING THE BRAKE. I THEN PLACED THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND ATTEMPTED TO STOP, STILL UNABLE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. I SLOWED DOWN AS MUCH AS I COULD AND THREW THE CAR IN PARK, WITH THE ENGINE STILL ATTEMPTING TO GO! I IMMEDIATELY TURNED THE CAR OFF AND HAD AAA COME OUT TO ASSESS THE VEHICLE. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING ISSUE FOR SO MANY OF THE SAME VEHICLES AND NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE FOR YEARS!!! ITS BETTER TO BE PROACTIVE AND HAVE THE PART FIXED THAN TO NOT FIX THE ISSUE AND HAVE ACCIDENTS FROM THIS ISSUE! *TR
THE 2005 FORD TAURUS EXPERIENCED AN UNCOMMANDED ACCELERATION. THE IGNITION HAD TO BE TURNED OFF TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. SIMILAR TO NHTSA INVESTIGATION PE-12-005, THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE DETATCHING FROM THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY AND INTERFERING WITH THE THROTLLE ASSEMBLY, CAUSING THE RPMS TO EXCEED 4,000. THIS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO LURCH, NEARLY STRIKING A VEHICLE IN FRONT OF THE TAURUS. THIS IS A SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE AND HAS THE POTENTIAL TO CAUSE SERIOUS INJURIES OR LOSS OF LIFE. *JS
THE CAR BEGAN ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE THE CAR WOULD REV AND WHEN PLACED IN NEUTRAL OR PARK IT WOULD REV UP TO 4000 RPM. THIS HAS MADE ME VERY WORRIED THAT THE CAR WILL NOT STOP WHEN IT NEED TO SINCE IT TOOK MUCH FURTHER TO GET THE CAR STOPPED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED WHEN THE BRAKES WERE ENGAGED. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AFTER THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 135,040.
THROTTLE BODY/CRUISE CONTROL CABLE NEEDED REPLACED FOR THE SECOND TIME. CAR ACCELERATED W/O PUSHING THE GAS UP TO 30 MPH. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I HAVE HAD TO HAVE IT FIXED FOR THE SAME ISSUE. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE RPMS INCREASED AND THE VEHICLE WOULD SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,400. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 83,463.
THROTTLE STICKS AT CRUISING SPEED, AND WON'T RELEASE WITHOUT KICKING ACCELERATOR PEDAL. CRUISE CONTROL CABLE CAUSING THROTTLE NOT TO RETURN TO IDLE POSITION WHEN LETTING OFF ACCELERATOR PEDAL! CAR MAINTAINED SPEED IF NOT SLOWED BY BRAKING WITHOUT CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED. REMOVED CRUISE CONTROL CABLE AND THROTTLE WORKS FINE, HOWEVER FORD DEALER WANTS TO REPLACE THROTTLE BODY FOR $400 AND NOT REPLACE CABLE? THIS SAME VEHICLE ALSO HAS AN INTERMITTENT HARD SHIFT PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND GEAR APPROX. 5% OF THE, BUT RUNS FINE THE REST OF THE TIME, DEALER SAYS IT WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION FOR $3300 BUT VEHICLE IS NOW VALUED AROUND THAT! *TR
WAS GOING UP HIGHWAY,THEN WITHOUT ANY WARNING RPMS RACED,MANAGED TO GET TO SIDE OF ROAD NO WARNINGS NOTHING.STARTS FINE.ANY GEAR SEEMS LIKE NEUTRAL OR PARK.LOOKED ONLINE AND FOUND SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT TORQUE CONVERTER SPLINES NOT BEING THICK ENOUGH. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT DURING RAINY WEATHER CONDITIONS, WATER ENTERED THE VEHICLE THROUGH THE FLOORBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED TO 65 MPH. THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY THE BRAKES ABRUPTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE WAS DISCONNECTED. THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE DEALER THEN REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY AND THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,000. UPDATED 7/16/14*CN UPDATED 8/25/17*CN
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THERE WAS A SUDDEN LOSS OF ENGINE POWER AND THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 120,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
WAS STOPPED IN LEFT TURN LANE. ACCELERATED UP DRIVEWAY TO ENTER PARKING LOT AND THROTTLE STUCK, RODE BRAKE INTO PARKING LOT. TACH WAS AT APPROX. 2500 RPM, SWITCHED FEET ON BRAKE PEDAL AND TAPPED THE ACCELERATOR TWICE AND THE IDLE WENT DOWN BELOW 1000 RPMS AND SHUT OFF ENGINE. AFTER RESTARTING ENGINE IDLE WAS NORMAL. WHEN I RETURNED HOME I CHECKED UNDER HOOD AND FOUND CRUISE CONTROL CABLE CLIP WAS NOT ON THROTTLE BODY PIN. I REATTACHED THE CLIP TO THE PIN. TRIED CRUISE CONTROL AND IT DID NOT WORK. CHECKED CRUISE CONTROL CABLE AND THE CLIP WAS OFF AGAIN AND LAYING NEXT TO THE THROTTLE BODY PIN. I LEFT THE CRUISE CABLE DISCONNECTED BUT THE ACCELERATION PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED FOUR (4) MORE TIMES. ONCE TO ME AND THREE (3) TIMES TO MY DAUGHTER. I BELIEVE THE CRUISE CLIP GETS STUCK UNDER THE THROTTLE BODY PIN AND WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS TAPPED IT COMES LOOSE AND IDLE RETURNS TO NORMAL. I HAVE OWNED MULTIPLE CARS WITH CRUISE CONTROL AND NEVER HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM, EVEN WITH OVER 100,000 MILES ON THEM. *JS
THE CAR WAS ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN. SO WE HAD A MECHANIC FIX IT HE REPLACED THE THROTTLE CABLE. APPROXIMATELY 4 MONTHS LATER IT STARTED DOING IT AGAIN. THE CAR ACCELERATED AND MY DAUGHTER HIT A CAR IN FRONT OF HER. GORNO FORDS FIXED THE CAR THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE CABLE AGENE. THAT WAS AROUND MAY 3, 2015 THAT THEY FIXED THE CAR. AROUND JUNE 12, THE CAR ACCELERATED AND I COULD NOT STOP THE CAR AND I HIT THE CARE IN FRONT OF ME. I CALLED GORNO FORD BUT THEY SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT DO ANY THING TO HELP ME. EVEN THOUGH THE FIXED THE CAR.
THE VEHICLE BEGINS TO ACCELERATE AND WILL NOT SLOW DOWN UNLESS THE VEHICLE IS COMPLETELY TURNED OFF OR I BRAKE THE VEHICLE THE ENTIRE TIME. THE RPM RISES TO 4,000 AND WILL NOT DECREASE WHILE IN DRIVE. *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE SHE DROVE AT 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. THE CONTACT HAD TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH FORCE AND SHUT THE ENGINE DOWN TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 64,000. UPDATED 06/10/14 MA
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH WITHOUT THE CRUISE CONTROL ON, THE CAR STARTED TO ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN TO UP TO 75 MPH. I PUMPED THE BRAKES TO REDUCE THE SPEED, BUT THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. I TRIED LIFTING THE GAS PEDAL WITH MY FOOT TO SEE IF IT WAS STUCK; IT WAS NOT. I TURNED THE CRUISE CONTROL ON AND OFF, BUT CRUISE WAS NOT FUNCTIONING. I CONTINUED TO DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY (ABOUT 10 MILES) TO MY DESTINATION, AND CONTINUED TO PUMP THE BRAKES WHILE DRIVING TO PREVENT THE CAR FROM GOING AT A DANGEROUS SPEED. WHEN I GOT OFF THE HIGHWAY, I HAD TROUBLE BRAKING. THE CAR LURCHED FORWARD A BUNCH WHEN I TRIED STOPPING COMPLETELY. WHILE BRAKING, THE CAR SHOOK AND THE RPMS SHOT UP TO ABOUT 3500. I DID GET THE CAR TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT, BUT ONLY AFTER PUSHING PRETTY HARD ON THE BRAKES. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I LIFTED MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND THE CAR ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. THE RPMS CONTINUED TO REMAIN AROUND 3500. SINCE I WAS IN THE CITY, I CONTINUOUSLY HIT THE BRAKES SO I WOULDN'T GO OVER 40, BUT EACH TIME I DID THIS, THE FRONT OF THE CAR SHOOK VIGOROUSLY. IT WAS TERRIFYING. THE CAR WAS MAKING A LOT OF NOISE, TOO. BY THE TIME I GOT TO MY DESTINATION AND PUT MY CAR IN PARK, IT WAS REALLY LOUD AND THE RPMS REMAINED ABOVE 3000. I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND LET IT SIT FOR ABOUT 90 MINUTES. LATER, I TURNED IT ON AGAIN AND THE RPMS SHOT TO 2500, DROPPED TO ABOUT 2000, AND THEN JUMPED TO 3500. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED IT OFF. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE HAD FALLEN APART/FAILED, WHICH CAUSED THE THROTTLE TO CONTINUOUSLY ACCELERATE. I ALSO HAD TO GET MY FRONT BRAKES COMPLETELY REDONE, BECAUSE MY CONSTANT BREAKING TO PREVENT THE CAR FROM SPEEDING OUT OF CONTROL WARPED THE ROTOR (WHICH MADE THE CAR SHAKE WHEN I BRAKED). THIS WAS A VERY DANGEROUS AND FRIGHTENING SITUATION. *TR
THIS HAPPENED A FEW TIMES IN THE PAST MONTH ESPECIALLY AT HIGH SPEED. WHEN I DROVE ON HIGH WAY, I FOUND I DO NOT NEED TO HOLD GAS PEDAL TO KEEP AT HIGH SPEED (SAY 65). IF I BRAKE A LITTLE AND RELEASE BRAKE, THE SPEED WILL AUTOMATICALLY GO UP ITSELF. THERE WERE ALSO A FEW CASES THAT IT WAS VERY HARD FOR ME TO BRAKE TO STOP THE CAR. IT SEEMED THE BRAKE IS LOST AT THAT TIME. *TR
WAITING AT A GREEN LIGHT (DUE TO HEAVY TRAFFIC AND A CONGESTED INTERSECTION), THERE WAS A SWEET BURNING SMELL, FOLLOWED BY WHITE SMOKE. I MADE IT OFF THE ROAD TO A GAS STATION PARKING LOT WHEN SECONDS LATER, THE SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD IN THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TURNED BLACK AND FLAMES ERUPTED FROM THE SAME SPOT. I TOOK MYSELF AND MY THREE CHILDREN OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND IN LESS THAN A MINUTE LATER, THE ENTIRE CAR WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES. APPARENTLY, THERE WAS A RECALL ON A RECALL OF THIS MAKE AND MODEL ABOUT THE WIRING FOR CRUISE CONTROL BEING TOO CLOSE TO THE BRAKE FLUID. THIS HAPPENED IN FRONT OF WITNESSES AND I DISCUSSED THIS WITH MECHANICS. FORD NEEDS TO WAKE UP, BECAUSE PEOPLE CAN'T JUST BLOW UP IN CARS THEY TAKE CARE OF. *TR
I GOT A FLASHING CODE FOR THE AIR BAGS, THE CODE SHOWS THAT THE CLOCK SPRING IS BROKEN AND THIS DISABLES THE CRUISE CONTROL AND THE DRIVERS SIDE AIR BAG, THIS CAR HAS ONLY 51,000 MILE ON IT AND THIS PART SHOULD LAST FOR THE LIFE OF THE CAR. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AND COMING UP TO A 4-WAY STOP AT AN INTERSECTION. THERE WAS A TRUCK STOPPED AT THE SIGN AT THE INTERSECTION IN FRONT OF ME. I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND WAS NEARLY STOPPED WHEN THE ENGINE OF MY CAR BEGAN REVVING ON ITS OWN. I PRESSED HARDER ON THE BRAKES BUT FELT THE CAR EDGING FORWARD STILL AND THOUGHT FOR A MOMENT I HAD LOST MY BRAKES. SINCE MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL I PUT THE CAR IN PARK, STOPPING IT FROM RUNNING INTO THE TRUCK IN FRONT OF ME. THE ENGINE REVVED FOR A FEW MORE SECONDS AND THEN THE NEEDLE DROPPED ON THE RPM DIAL BACK TO NORMAL. I PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE AND COMPLETED MY TRIP HOME WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. THE FIRST TIME WAS NEARLY A MONTH AGO BUT I THOUGHT IT WAS A FLUKE, THAT PERHAPS I HAD SOME HOW STEPPED ON THE GAS PEDAL AS WELL AS THE BRAKE. I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT IS THE CASE NOW. *TR
THE CAR WILL ACCELERATE BY ITSELF FROM THE GAS PEDAL STICKING-- TOTAL TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT NOW THERE IS DIFFICULTY STEERING LEFT OR RIGHT, WHICH FORCES THE VEHICLE INTO EXTREMELY WIDE TURNS OR USE OF EXCESSIVE FORCE TO GET WHEEL MOVING. -THE CAR WILL REV/CHUG EXCESSIVELY WHILE IDLING AT A LIGHT, FORCING ME TO TURN IT OFF SEVERAL TIMES FOR FEAR OF SOMETHING HAPPENING. --CAR HAS BEEN CHECKED SEVERAL TIMES BY AUTO SHOPS AND THEY ALWAYS CLAIM THE CAR IS FINE YET I HAVE ALL THESE DIFFICULTIES WITH IT. *TR
THE CAR TAKES OFF WITHOUT PRESSING ON THE GAS. RPM GOES UP AND CAR CONTINUES TO ACCELERATE DESPITE PRESSING ON THE BRAKES. TOOK CAR TO A MECHANIC AND HAD THE IDLE VALVE REPLACED. 2 WEEKS LATER THE PROBLEM CONTINUED TO PERSIST AND MECHANIC TOLD ME THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS DETACHED BUT SUSPECTS IT IS A PROBLEM WITH THE MODEL OF CAR AND NEEDED TO BE RECALLED. I WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY WITH MY BABY AND SUDDENLY FOUND THAT EVEN THOUGH I FULLY RELEASED THE GAS PAD THE ENGINE STILL KEPT RUNNING AT ~3000 RPM. I HAD TO PUT BRAKE TO SLOW THE SPEED WHICH WOULD OTHERWISE ACCELERATE MY CAR OUT OF MY CONTROL. I FINALLY STOPPED BY SWITCHING TO NEUTRAL AND HARD BRAKE. WHEN I RESTARTED THE CAR THE PROBLEM WAS STILL THERE AND THE ENGINE MADE A BIG NOISE AT PARKING GEAR. THE PROBLEM DISAPPEARED AFTER I DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY. I WAS GOING DOWN THE HWY. AT 55 AND MY CAR STARTED ACCELERATING SUDDENLY. I SLOWED DOWN A LITTLE BIT AND TAPPED THE BRAKES AGAIN AND IT KEPT ACCELERATING. I SLOWED WAY DOWN TO 40MPH AND TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS AND IT ACCELERATED UP TO OVER 60 MPH ON ITS OWN. I KEPT MY FOOT ON THE GAS AND PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY AT THE NEXT EXIT. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I STARTED AGAIN AND THE CAR ACCELERATED AGAIN UP TO 30 MPH ON ITS OWN WITHOUT ME HITTING THE GAS. I KEPT MY FOOT ON THE BREAK AND COASTED INTO A PARKING LOT AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. I TURNED THE CAR ON AGAIN AND IT SHOT UP TO 4RPM AND DID NOT DROP SO I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND HAD A SHOP COME PICK IT UP. THEY SAID THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE BECAME DISCONNECTED AND CAUGHT ON THE THROTTLE CAUSING THE CAR TO KEEP ACCELERATING. I'VE NEVER EVEN USED THE CRUISE CONTROL ON THE VEHICLE AT ALL AND I HAVE HAD POSSESSION OF IT SINCE AROUND 60,000 MILES. *TR

WHEN I TRIED TO SET THE CRUISE CONTROL IT WOULD NOT SET OR HOLD THE SPEED. LATER THAT DAY, WHEN DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE CAR DECIDED IT WAS GOING TO SPEED UP. ABOUT 3 DAYS AGO 2-6-14 (159,000MILES), THE CAR AGAIN DID THIS SAME THING. ONCE AGAIN I WILL BE TAKING IT INTO THE FORD DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THIS ISSUE FIXED. THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS ACTIVATED BUT CONTINUED TO BE ENGAGED AND MY CAR WAS ACCELERATING AFTER I APPLIED THE BRAKE PREPARING TO STOP. I DISCOVERED THAT IT WAS PARTIALLY DISCONNECTED FROM ITS LINK TO THE THROTTLE BODY AND WAS KEEPING THE THROTTLE PLATE FROM CLOSING. I DISCONNECTED THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE AND I HAVE NOT HAD UNINTENDED ACCELERATION SINCE THEN. I WENT TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP TO INQUIRE ABOUT THIS SAFETY-COMPROMISING MALFUNCTION AND I WAS TOLD THAT MY CRUISE CONTROL CABLE NEEDS REPLACEMENT. I FAILED TO ASK IF THE CABLE IS ACTUALLY THE CULPRIT BECAUSE IT HAS SOMEHOW FAILED OR IF THE DESIGN OF ITS LINKAGE TO THE THROTTLE BODY IS THE CAUSE FOR THE PARTIAL DISCONNECTION OF THE CABLE FROM THE LINKAGE IN WHICH CASE THIS COULD HAPPEN AGAIN EVEN AFTER THE CABLE IS REPLACED. *TR
MY ACCELERATOR PEDAL STARTING STICKING AND HAS CONTINUED TO DO SO FOR OVER A WEEK, NOW. MY CRUISE CONTROL ALSO STOPPED WORKING AT THE SAME TIME. IF I TAP THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, IT WILL USUALLY RETURN TO NORMAL. THE CRUISE CONTROL WILL WORK INTERMITTENTLY, BUT IS INOPERATIVE MORE THAN IT IS OPERATIVE. I CAN LIVE WITHOUT THE CRUISE CONTROL, BUT THE STICKING ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS DANGEROUS. ALSO, SOMETIMES WHEN I SET THE CRUISE CONTROL, I CAN FEEL THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ACCEPT THE SPEED, BUT THEN IT WILL ALMOST IMMEDIATELY DISCONNECT AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WILL SPRING BACK TO ITS NORMAL POSITION. WE HAD OUR CAR SERVICED AT OUR LOCAL FORD PLACE ON 1-22-2014 BECAUSE OF A PROBLEM WE WERE HAVING ABOUT ACCELERATION PROBLEMS. THERE WE FOUND OUT ABOUT THE CALIBRATION RECALL. ON 1/18/2014: I WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, WHEN ALL THE SUDDEN MY 2005 FORD TAURUS SUDDENLY STARTED ACCELERATING. I DID NOT HAVE MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL. WHEN I STARTED TO USED THE BRAKES IT FELT LIKE THE CAR WAS PUSHING AGAINST THE BRAKES. THE BRAKES HELD AND I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR. THERE ARE NO "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHTS ON. AFTER A LITTLE WHILE MY CAR ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. AFTER TRYING TO APPLY THE BRAKES, WHICH JUST SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS GRINDING THE BRAKES BECAUSE IT DIDN'T WANT TO IDLE DOWN. PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL, THE RPMS REVVED OVER 4000 AND THE SAME WHEN I SWITCHED TO DRIVE. I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND UPON TURNING THE CAR BACK ON THE RPMS WENT OVER 4000 RPM AGAIN. I TALKED TO FORD AND THEY SAID SINCE THERE WAS NO RECALL THAT THERE WAS LOT BING THEY COULD DO FOR ME. I THINK THAT SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. *TR
