VEHICLE STARTED TO ACCELERATE AND KEPT GOING FASTER. BRAKES WOULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE AND ENDED UP IN A COTTON FIELD. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THE ACCELERATION STUCK. TAPPING THE GAS PEDDLE WORKED THE FIRST TWO BUT NOT THE LAST TIME. IT KNOCKED A HOLE IN THE TRANSMISSION PAN AND DID SOMETHING TO THE BRAKE LINE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED INDEPENDENTLY. THE ENGINE RPMS ALSO INCREASED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS SECURED IN PARK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,000.
DRIVING AT 45MPH NOTICE THAT THE CAR WAS SPEEDING UP BY ITS SELF TRIED TO BRAKE THE CAR HAD BAD VIBRATION WHEN FINALLY STOP, RPMS WERE AT 4000. *TR
Y VEHICLE EXPERIENCED UNEXPECTED HIGH RPM AND UNCONTROLLABLE HIGH SPEEDS. IT WAS FIRST DISCOVERED WHEN ACCELERATING UP TO 40 MPH, AND SUDDENLY THE SPEED INCREASED WITH THE RPM GOING UP TO 4,000. THE GAS PEDAL WAS UNTOUCHED AND THE SPEED CONTINUED TO INCREASED. THE DRIVER IMMEDIATELY APPLIED THE BRAKES TO STOP BUT THE RPM REMAINED AT 4,000 RPM, WHILE AT A STOP, THE DRIVER CHANGED THE DRIVE SHAFT TO NEUTRAL, AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO GO AT 4,000 RPM. THIS WOULD GO ON FOR ABOUT 3-4 MILES, AND SUDDENLY GO BACK TO NORMAL MODE. THEN THE SYMPTOMS WOULD RETURN AGAIN UNEXPECTEDLY. THIS BEHAVIOR HAS BEEN ONGOING SINCE DECEMBER 5TH, AND IT IS WORSE WHEN THE VEHICLE IS ON THE FREEWAY. THE SPEED CONTROL WOULD ALSO BECOME ERRATIC ONCE IT HITS 60 MPH. THE DRIVER WOULD CHANGE SHIFT TO NEUTRAL OR TO D MODE JUST TO DISRUPT THE ERRATIC SPEED BEHAVIORS. THE SYMPTOMS WOULD GO AWAY "ON ITS OWN". IN ADDITION, I FOUND THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL IS NOT OPERATIONAL AT THIS TIME . THE CRUISE CONTROL CAN BE TURNED ON BUT THE CRUISE CONTROL IS NOT ENGAGED OR IS NOT HOLDING THE SPEED. I HAVE DONE A THOROUGH CHECK ON THE ENGINE LOOKING FOR ANY DAMAGES, ANY LEAKS IN THE INTAKE AIR PIPES, OR FAULTY SENSORS AND FOUND NOTHING, BUT FROM RESOURCES, I LEARNED THAT IT MAY BE A FAULTY CRUISE CONTROL OPERATION. IT IS NOW A SAFETY CONCERN, FOR ME AS THE DRIVER BUT FOR MY CHILDREN AND MY WIFE. *TR
THERE ARE HUGE HOLES IN THE PASSENGER, DRIVER AND REAR PASSENGER FLOOR PANS. THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR PAN IS COMPLETELY GONE - ONLY THING THAT PREVENTED THE PASSENGERS FEET FROM FALLING THROUGH WAS THE CARPET. THE DRIVER'S SIDE FLOOR PAN HAS A ~ 8" DIA HOLE. THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE HAS ~ 10" DIA HOLE. *TR
MY HUSBAND WAS TRAVELING TO NEWNAM,GA ON 11-10-13 LATE AT NIGHT WHEN THE CAR ACCELERATED WHILE JUST GOING UP HWY 85 S., THE SECOND TIME WAS AT A RED LIGHT MAKING A LEFT TURN COMING INTO OUR AREA AND THIRD TIME WHEN HE CAME NEAR OUR HOUSE TO A STOP SIGN. MY HUSBAND TRIED TO KICK THE ACCELERATOR TO BRING IT DOWN, IT HELPED SOME THEN TAPERED OFF. IS THIS SOMETHING THAT IS UNDER A FORD RECALL? THANK YOU *TR

TAPPING THE BRAKE DID NOTHING, SO I PUSHED THE BRAKES TO STOP THE CAR ALONGSIDE THE ROAD, THE WHOLE TIME, THE CAR WAS FIGHTING ME, IT WANTED TO KEEP ACCELERATING. I DID GET IT TO STOP, AND THEN POPPED IT INTO NEUTRAL, WHICH CAUSED THE RPMS TO RAMP UP TO 5500RPMS. I SHUT THE CAR OFF. WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND THEN STARTED IT BACK UP IN PARK, AND RPMS RAMPED UP AGAIN. SHUT THE CAR OFF AGAIN. POPPED THE HOOD AND LOOKED AT THE THROTTLE/CRUISE CONTROL CABLE, PULLED ON IT A BIT, AND IT SEEMED AS IF IT WAS STUCK. STARTED THE CAR AGAIN AND WORKED JUST FINE. BUT THEN THE CRUISE CONTROL NO LONGER WORKED. THE NEXT MORNING LOOKED AT THE CABLE AGAIN AND FOUND THAT THE CRUISE CABLE WAS DETACHED, SO HOOKED IT BACK UP, WHICH FIXED THE CRUISE CONTROL, BUT IT HAS ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN TWICE THIS PAST WEEK. SO PROBLEM NOT FIXED. *TR

ON OCTOBER 25, 2013 I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, THE ACCELERATOR TOOK OFF ON ITS OWN (IT WAS LIKE SOMEONE ELSE WAS PUSHING THE GAS PEDDLE) AND I LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. I HIT THE FENCE, THEN THE CAR TURNED HIT THE TREE UNTIL THE CAR CAME TO A STOP. MY WHOLE DRIVER SIDE IS PUSHED IN, MY WINDSHIELD IS CRACKED, THE TRUNK FLEE UP, MY REAR VIEW MIRROR, THE OUTSIDE MIRROR, AND HEAD LIGHT IS OFF. THE HOOD IS BENT AND THE ENGINE WAS ON THE GROUND. KNOWN OF THE TIRES WERE FLAT. THE AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. I HIT MY FACE AND CHIN ON THE STIRRING WHEEL. MY RIBS ARE BRUISED AND MY FACE IS SWOLLEN. I CHIPPED MY TOOTH ON THE WHEEL. MY BABY WAS IN THE BACK SEAT, THE INSIDE SEATS FELL DOWN. SHE WAS NOT HURT THANK GOD NOTHING MAJOR HAPPEN TO US. *TR
ENGINE STARTS TO RACE UP TO 4, 000 RPM MAKING IT EXTREMELY HARD TO STOP. HAD TO SWERVE TO AVOID HITTING CAR IN FRONT OF ME. WHEN TRYING TO DECELERATE THE CAR CONTINUES TO CLIMB IN RPM. SEAMS LIKE THE GAS PEDAL IS STAYING DEPRESSED. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
EARLIER IN THE WEEK, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ON MY 2005 FORD TAURUS GOT STUCK AND WOULD NOT FUNCTION. HITTING THE BRAKES SLOWED THE CAR. WHEN CAR WAS PUT IN NEUTRAL, THE ENGINE RACED. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. IT WORKED FINE FOR A FEW MORE DAYS, BUT HAPPENED AGAIN YESTERDAY. *TR

THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE DEFECT WAS MOSTLY PRESENT WHEN DECELERATING OR STOPPING BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO REPLACED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER BUT THE FAILURE WAS NOT REMEDIED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000. *TR
THE GAS GAUGE JUST STOPPED WORKING CAN BE VERY COSTLY REPAIR FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND WE BOUGHT THE CAR NEW. *TR
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:TORQUE CONVERTER---I OWN A 2005 FORD TAURUS SE. FRIDAY SEPT 27TH ON MY WAY HOME I HAD ISSUES WITH THE TRANSMISSION GOING OUT ON A MAJOR, VERY HEAVILY TRAVELED ROAD. I PULLED AWAY FROM A STOP LIGHT AND WAS TRAVELING APPROX 35MPH WHEN THE CAR STOPPED "PULLING" AND THE ENGINE RPM'S REVVED PAST 6K. THE CAR STOPPED PARTLY IN THE ROAD WHERE I HAD TO GET OUT ON THE TWO LANE ROAD AND PUSHED THE CAR THE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. (VERY DANGEROUS). I CALLED FOR A TOW TRUCK AND GOT THE CAR BACK TO MY HOUSE. WONDERING WHY THE TRANSMISSION GAVE OUT WITHOUT ANY WARNING, I DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT THERE IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THE 2005 FORD TAURUS TORQUE CONVERTERS WHERE THE PUMP SHAFT SPLINE IS ONLY .160 THICK, AND UNDER NORMAL USE, THE SPLINE WEARS EXCESSIVELY AND EVENTUALLY FAILS WITHOUT WARNING CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LOOSE ITS MOTIVE POWER. NOW WHAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND IS WHY HASN'T THE NHTSA INVESTIGATED THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE AFTER MORE RESEARCH AND SPEAKING WITH A FORD MASTER MECHANIC I FOUND OUT THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM WITH THE FORD FREESTAR VEHICLES!! WHY DID THE RECALL ONLY STOP WITH THE FREESTAR VEHICLE WHEN ITS THE SAME PROBLEM ON THE TAURUS? IS IT GOING TO TAKE A WRECK WITH A FATALITY TO GET SOMETHING DONE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM? I UNDERSTAND WHEN PARTS FAIL BUT WHEN YOU READ ONLINE TO DIFFERENT FORUMS AND THERE ARE HUNDREDS IF NOT THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM OF THE 2005 TAURUS THIS IS A MAJOR CONCERN WHICH SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE TO MAKE FORD ACCOUNTABLE ESPECIALLY WHEN THERE IS A SAME ISSUE WITH A DIFFERENT VEHICLE THAT HAS A RECALL. EVEN THE MASTER TECHNICIAN SAID HE DOESN'T KNOW WHY THE RECALL STOPPED WITH THE FREESTAR, IT'S THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM WITH THE 2005 TAURUS, AND A DANGEROUS ONE AT THAT. IS ANY INVESTIGATION GOING ON WITH THIS ISSUE? *TR
ON OCCASIONS, THE ACCELERATION (LEVEL) DOES NOT STOP ONCE I TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR. I HAVE TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL GEAR AND PUMP THE PEDAL ONCE OR TWICE. SO FAR, I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO DO SO; I HAVE NOT NEEDED TO TURN OFF THE CAR WHILE THE ENGINE IS REVVED UP. *JS
THE GAS PEDAL ON MY 2005 FORD TAURUS GOT STUCK AND CAUSED ACCELERATION EVEN AS I BROKE FULLY. THIS COULD HAVE EASILY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT HAD I BEEN BEHIND ANOTHER CAR. I HAD TO TURN THE CAR OFF FOR IT TO FIX AND IT FELT LIKE IT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN AGAIN. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE THE FORD TAURUS IS A HORRIBLE CAR AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. *TR
I WAS BRAKING TO PULL INTO MY DRIVEWAY, AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR'S RPM WENT FROM NORMAL UP TO 4500 RPMS. WHEN I WOULD PRESS THE BRAKE, THE CAR WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN, IT KEPT ACCELERATING. I FINALLY PUT THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL AND WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. *JB
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING AND THE ENGINE WENT TO 4,000 RPMS WITHOUT APPLYING THE GAS PEDAL AND STAYED AT 4,000 RPMS AFTER SHE APPLIED THE BRAKE, STOPPED, AND PUT IN PARK. TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTED MOMENTS LATER WITH SAME RESULT. THE NEXT DAY IT STARTED AND DROVE WITH NO PROBLEM. I FOUND THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE WAS DETACHED FROM ITS POST AND I REATTACHED. NOW WE KNOW WHY WE DIDN'T HAVE CRUISE CONTROL. SHE WAS A BIT SHAKEN BY THE EXPERIENCE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO PERFORMED AN UNKNOWN REPAIR HOWEVER THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000. UPDATED 2/11/14*CN

THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE BY APPLYING THE BRAKES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE INCIDENT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
VEHICLE ACCELERATES ON OWN. THIS USUALLY OCCURS AT SPEEDS OF 20-35 MPH. RMPS ALSO SURGE SIGNIFICANTLY. IT IS DIFFICULT TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP WHEN THIS OCCURS. THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT.

THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE REACHED 40 MPH. TWO WEEKS LATER THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 106,000.

THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED REPEATEDLY BEFORE COMING TO A STOP. A CERTIFIED MECHANIC DETACHED THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE; HOWEVER, THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACTS RESIDENCE. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
SITTING AT A RED LIGHT, WAITING OUR TURN, CAR ACCELERATED THRU THE LIGHT! HAD TO PUT IT IN NEUTRAL TO STOP IT. AFTER THAT NUMEROUS TIMES THE CAR WOULD ACCELERATE WHILE DRIVING. OUR MECHANIC HAS WORKED ON THIS ISSUE FOR OVER 9 MONTHS, KEEP THINKING FOUND IT, DRIVE A WEEK OR SO, THEN IT WOULD DO IT AGAIN. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 182,580. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I WAS MADE TO BELIEVE THAT FORD AUTHORIZED FOR THE TRANSMISSION TO BE REPLACED AT 80,000 MILES(SEE PREVIOUS TRANSMISSION COMPLAINT ON THIS VIN). I RECENTLY DISCOVERED THAT THE ONLY WORK THAT WAS DONE WAS A FORD AUTHORIZED REPAIR TO THE TORQUE CONVERTER, AND NOT A REPLACEMENT OF THE TRANSMISSION AS THE REPAIRING DEALER RECOMMENDED. AT THE TIME OF THE REPAIR THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER FORD'S EXTENDED WARRANTY PLAN. THE VEHICLE NOW HAS 130,000, AND IT HAS AN INTERMITTENT JERK WHILE GOING FROM 0-20 MPH. THE LOCAL FORD DEALER, ALONG WITH ANOTHER INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP, HAS INFORMED ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I CONTACTED FORD AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT SINCE THE VEHICLE IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY THERE IS NOTHING THAT THEY WILL DO. IT'S MY BELIEF ,SINCE THE ORIGINAL TRANSMISSION PROBLEM AT 80,000, THE TRANSMISSIONS IN THE 2005 ARE DEFECTIVE. *TR

THE ACCELERATOR GOT STUCK WHILE DRIVING. AFTER APPLYING THE BRAKE THE CAR WAS STILL ACCELERATING AND WAS PULLING FORWARD. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND REVVED THE ENGINE TO TRY AND DISENGAGE THE ACCELERATOR. I PUT IT BACK IN DRIVE AND IT JERKED FORWARD AND WAS STILL STUCK. IT FINALLY BECAME UN-STUCK. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE. FORD SHOWS NO RECALLS ON MY YEAR ONLY 2000-2003 MODELS. *TR

I WAS DRIVING 55 ON A TWO LANE HIGHWAY AND ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE AS I STARTED DOWN A HILL. INSTEAD OF BRAKING, THE CAR BEGAN ACCELERATING. I WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO A GAS STATION AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK BUT IT REVVED UP TO 3,500 RPM. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND WAITED 10 MINUTES. UPON STARTING IT AGAIN, IT REMAINED AT 3,500 RPM. TAPPED GAS PEDAL A COUPLE TIMES AND ENGINE STAYED REVVED. THEN TURNED OFF CAR AND STARTED IT AND ENGINE RPM WAS BACK TO NORMAL. I DROVE ABOUT 10 MILES, INCLUDING TRYING TO USE CRUISE CONTROL, WITHOUT INCIDENT, THOUGH THE CRUISE CONTROL STILL NEVER WORKED (WOULD NOT SET). ON WEDNESDAY 10 JULY, IN ALBERTVILLE, MINNESOTA, WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING 30 MPH, SHE NOTICED THAT IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO GET THE CAR STOPPED AT 2 DIFFERENT STOP LIGHTS. I WAS FORCED TO USE THE BRAKES TO CONTROL THE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE. I WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN MY SPEED AT 30 MPH, BUT COULD TELL THAT I WAS FIGHTING THE CAR'S NEED TO ACCELERATE. THANKFULLY, I WAS CLOSE ENOUGH TO HOME AND TRIED MY BEST TO MAKE IT THERE. I USED THE BRAKE TO GET MY CAR DOWN TO A SAFE ENOUGH SPEED TO TURN ONTO MY STREET, AT WHICH POINT I HEARD A LOUD GRINDING SOUND. I TRIED SHIFTING THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL AND THE CAR WENT UP TO 4000 RPM. I THEN RETURNED IT BACK TO DRIVE AND WAS FORCED TO START CIRCLING MY BLOCK. I CALLED MY FATHER AND HE TOLD ME TO TURN MY CAR OFF WHILE STILL IN DRIVE. I DID THIS AND ROLLED TO A STOP IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE. WHILE IN PARK, I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON, AND IT IMMEDIATELY WENT UP TO 4000 RPM. I SHUT THE CAR BACK OFF AND REPEATED THE TEST, WITH THE SAME RESULTS. UPON INSPECTION, WE FOUND THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE HAD DETACHED FROM THE THROTTLE CAM AND WAS BLOCKING THE THROTTLE FROM RETURNING TO ITS CORRECT POSITION. WE REMOVED THE CABLE FROM THE AREA OF THE THROTTLE AND THE ENGINE RETURNED TO THE NORMAL IDLING RANGE AROUND 1000 RPM. *TR

I CALLED AAA AND THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER FOUND THE PLASTIC CLIPS ON THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE DISCONNECTED FROM THE THROTTLE. HE RECONNECTED THE CLIPS BUT THEY SEEMED TO BE TOO LOOSE AND EASILY CAME OFF AGAIN. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A AAA CAR CENTER, WHERE THE TECHNICIAN REPLACED THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLE AND IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE. NO ISSUES SINCE THE REPAIR. *TR

THEN I WOULD TRY TO SLOW DOWN THE CAR AND IT WOULD BE JERKING AND WOULD COME TO A STOP FINALLY, BUT THE RPM WOULD BE TO OVER 4,000 OR EVEN 5,000. IT WOULD DO IT FOR A FEW MILES THEN SUDDENLY GO BACK TO RUNNING NORMAL. I ALSO NOTICED THE CRUISE CONTROL IS NOT WORKING SINCE THE CAR STATED DOING THIS. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND ALL THEY COULD FIND WRONG WITH THE CAR WAS THAT THE THROTTLE BODY PLATES WERE COVERED IN GUNK AND THEY CLEANED THEM, AND I NEEDED TO REPLACE MY IDLE AIR INTAKE VALVE WHICH I HAD BOTH DONE. FROM TIME TO TIME THE CAR WILL STILL ACCELERATE SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNING, AND I AM AFRAID I AM GOING TO EITHER BLOW THE ENGINE FROM THE HIGH RPM'S OR RUN INTO SOMEONE IF I CAN'T GET THE CAR SLOWED DOWN IN TIME. *TR
