TRANSMISSION SLIPS INTO NEUTRAL WHILE DRIVING. SAME TRANSMISSION IS USED IN CHEVROLET AND SATURN VEHICLES AND HAS BEEN RECALLED BY GM.
MY 2008 TAURUS SEL FELT LIKE IT WAS SLIPPING BETWEEN GEARS WHEN PULLING OUT OF A PARKING LOT. 100 YARDS LATER, ON AN UPHILL STREET, THE CAR WOULD BARELY MOVE AND ROLL BACKWARDS WHEN I LET OFF THE BRAKE. I WAS BLOCKING TRAFFIC SO I HAD TO REV THE ENGINE AT MAX RPM TO BARELY MAKE IT OUT OF TRAFFIC AND ONTO THE SHOULDER. WHEN I STARTED THE ENGINE, THERE WAS A LOUD CLUNK COMING FROM THE TRANSMISSION. WHEN I SHIFTED INTO REVERSE, THERE WAS A LOUD CLUNK AND A JOLT LIKE SOMEONE JUST REAR-ENDED ME. SAME WHEN SHIFTING INTO N OR L. THE CAR NEEDED TO BE TOWED. THE OBD CODE READER INDICATED A PENDING P720 FAILURE, "OUTPUT SPEED SENSOR CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION". I CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY PRETENDED TO BE UNAWARE OF THIS PROBLEM. THE OUTPUT SPEED SENSOR IS LOCATED INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION, NOT A USER SERVICEABLE PART. EVEN THE MOST METICULOUS MAINTENANCE COULD NOT HAVE AVOIDED THE SENSOR FAILURE WHICH CLEARLY POINTS TO A DESIGN FLAW IN THE SENSOR. MY TAURUS IS 7 YEARS OLD WITH 93,000 MILES. A REQUEST FOR FINANCIAL AID WAS DECLINED BY FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE. ANY CAR WITH A 6F50 TRANSMISSION SHOULD BE RECALLED AS THESE TIME BOMBS ARE A HIGHWAY SAFETY HAZARDS.
I WAS PULLING OUT OF A PARKING LOT, STOPPED AND ON THE BRAKES WAITING FOR AN OPENING IN TRAFFIC WHEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN MY CAR TRIED TO SURGE ME FORWARD, REVVING UP VERY HIGH. IT SOUNDED AS IF THE CAR MAY BLOW UP. I HAD TO STOMP ON THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH BOTH FEET AND FIGHT TO KEEP FROM THE CAR THROWING ME OUT INTO TRAFFIC. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND IT STOPPED. I IMMEDIATELY WENT TO THE NEAREST SERVICE STATION, WHERE THEY LOOKED AT IT & TOOK IT FOR A DRIVE. IT DIDN'T HAPPEN WHILE THEY LOOKED AT IT SO THEY TOLD ME THEY HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING WHAT WENT WRONG WITH IT. MY HUSBAND CALLED FORD AND THEY CLAIM THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THAT AND WE WERE THE FIRST ONES THAT HAD THAT GO WRONG WITH THEIR FORD TAURUS. I'M VERY FRUSTRATED, I SAW NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THE EXACT THING HAPPENING TO OTHER PEOPLE. I'M SCARED TO DRIVE MY CAR NOW, AND WILL NO LONGER TEACH MY SON TO DRIVE WITH IT. THERE'S NO WAY I'D PUT MY SON BEHIND THE WHEEL OF IT KNOWING IT MIGHT THROW HIM INTO TRAFFIC AND HARM HIM IN ANY WAY. IS FORD WAITING FOR A DEATH BEFORE THEY ADMIT TO ANYTHING?! I NEED HELP FROM ANYONE TO GUIDE ME IN HOW TO FIND OUT WHAT WENT WRONG AND HOW TO GET IT FIXED. I HAVE A COUPLE DOCTOR APPOINTMENTS COMING UP IN ST LOUIS AND I CAN'T GET THE FEAR OF IT HAPPENING ON AN 8 LANE HIGHWAY OUT OF MY HEAD. HELP!
PURCHASED VEHICLE IN FEB 2010. DRIVEN TO TAKE CHILDREN TO AND FROM SCHOOL AND BACK HOME APPROX TOTAL MILEAGE ROUND TRIP DAILY IS 6 MILES AT MOST. FIRST INSTANCE HAPPENED WHEN APPROACHING A STOP SIGN AND SLOWING DOWN BY PRESSING THE BRAKE BUT THE MOTOR ACCELERATED RPMS INSTEAD AS IF I WERE PRESSING THE GAS. LASTED FEW SECONDS AND BEGAN DOING AS IT SHOULD. NEXT INSTANT HAPPENED COUPLE MONTHS LATER WHEN PRESSING THE BRAKE TO STOP AFTER RETURNING HOME FROM TAKING CHILDREN TO SCHOOL. TRIED TO STOP IN MY DRIVEWAY WHEN I REACHED THE HOUSE AND THE MOTOR ACCELERATED INSTEAD AND HAD TO TURN THE SWITCH OFF TO MAKE IT STOP MAKING THE ACCELERATION NOISE. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES WITH EACH TIME A LITTLE MORE INTENSE. MOST RECENTLY, WHILE TAKING MY SON TO A TRAVELBALL TOURNAMENT I SLOWED TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN AND IT BRIEFLY REVVED THE MOTOR. WHEN I TRIED TO START GOING AGAIN IT TOOK A SECOND FOR THE CAR TO ACTUALLY GO, THEN BEGAN RUNNING NORMAL. FEW MILES DOWN THE ROAD TRAVELING ABOUT 45 MILES PER HOUR ALL OF A SUDDEN LOST ALL ABILITY TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE WHEN THE MOTOR BEGAN ACCELERATING BUT CAR SLOWING DOWN AS IF IT HAD BEEN KNOCKED OUT OF GEAR. THE DIFFERENCE WAS IT WAS STILL IN GEAR AND PRESSING THE BRAKE DID NOTHING AND STEERING BECAME VERY DIFFICULT. MANAGED TO GET OFF THE ROAD AND STOPPED THEN IT JUST STARTED DRIVING NORMAL AGAIN. PROCEEDED TO DRIVE TO DESTINATION AND SLOWED TO TURN RIGHT AT INTERSECTION WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC WHEN CAR DID THE SAME THING AGAIN. THAT WAS A MONTH AGO AND HAS NOT DONE IT SINCE.
BROUGHT CAR INTO THREE DIFFERENT DEALER TO DIAGNOSE WHY ALL DASH LIGHTS WERE COMING ON AND OFF. EACH TIME THE PCM WAS WIPED CLEAN AND WAS TOLD THEY WERE UNSURE. THE LAST TIME I BROUGHT THE CAR IN WAS FOR A POSSIBLE BAD SPEEDOMETER READING AS WAS PULLED OVER FOR GOING 70 IN A 55 AS WHICH SPEEDOMETER WAS READING 55. BROUGHT IN FOR BOTH CONCERNS AND DETERMINED THAT THE ABS MODULE WAS BAD AND THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER IS BAD ALSO. SPEEDOMETER BEING OFF IS A SAFETY HAZARD FOR ALL AND SHOULD HAVE NO REASON TO GO OUT. NO TELLING HOW LONG SPEEDOMETER HAS BEEN OUT, BUT THE ABS MODULE STARTED PROBLEMS AROUND 90,000MI.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE BEGUN TO MAKE AN ABNORMAL NOISE WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A COMPLETED STOP AS NUMEROUS INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER WAS NO LONGER WORKING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WERE 13 ERROR CODES, HOWEVER; THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED AND THE FAILURE WAS NOT ABLE TO BE DUPLICATED AT THAT TIME EITHER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING AT 20 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE RPMS INCREASED AND THE TRANSMISSION WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD TAURUS. UPON BACKING OUT OF THE GARAGE AND THE DRIVEWAY, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN LEFT AND RIGHT WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY FORCE TO THE STEERING WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING GEARS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. CPSC: X1540006A. 2008 FORD TAURUS. CONSUMER STATED PROBLEMS WITH THE WHEELS COLLAPSING. *LN THE CONSUMER STATED THE REAR WHEELS WERE REPLACED USING REFURBISHED FORD WHEELS, THAT WERE MADE IN CHINA. THE CONSUMER STRUCK AN EMBEDDED ROAD OBSTACLE AND DAMAGED THE REAR WHEELS, WHICH CAUSED THEM TO COLLAPSE. *JB
MY CAR WILL JERK AND HESITATE WHEN I AM TRYING TO EXCELERATE SLOWLY, ALSO IT WILL DO IT WHILE I AM DOING 50-60 AND TRYING TO SPEED UP TO PASS SOMEONE.. I HAVE TRIED FUEL INJECTION CLEANER ALL MY FLUIDS HAVE BEEN CHECKED, TUNE WAS DONE, NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND MECHANIC CAN NOT FIGURE OUT WHY IT IS DOING IT..IT MIRRORS ANOTHER COMPLAINT EXACLY..ALSO EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE THE INGINITON WILL SICK.. THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME.. SINCE ABOUT FEBRUARY OF THIS YEAR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD TAURUS. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER, THE VEHICLE SLIPPED ON ICE. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO TREES AND INTO AN EMBANKMENT. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED CHEEK AND HEAD INJURIES, WHICH REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
2008 FORD TAURUS(AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION) , I WAS ON INTERSTATE DOING SPEED-LIMIT 60 MPH. WHEN TRAFFIC BECAME HEAVY SO WAS SLOWED TO 45 MPH. AN WHEN I WENT TO ACCELERATE THE CAR BEGAN TO JERK AN HAD HESITATION LIKE TRANSMISSION BUT ONLY WHEN PUSHED GAS PEDAL. I HAVE NOTICE IT BOGS DOWN AROUND 60 MPH AN JERKS 3 OR 4 TIMES AN SEEMS LIKE LOSING POWER AN THEN IT WILL PICK BACK UP NORMAL DRIVE FEW MORE MILES AN IT WILL REPEAT. ALSO CHECKED FLUIDS AN THEY ARE FINE AN DASH ISN'T SHOWING ANY SERVICE LIGHTS. BUT WHEN O/D IS OFF IT GETS INTERMITTENT POWER SURGE. ALSO LEAVING MY HOUSE GOT TO THE STOP SIGN AN CAR WOULD NOT HOLD IT KEEP ROLLING BACKWARDS.
LEFT TURN FROM A STOP, OUT OF SUBDIVISION ENTRANCE. WHILE TURNING, STEERING BECAME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. IMMEDIATELY TRIED TO GET VEHICLE OF THE ROAD. BEFORE TOTALLY OFF THE ROAD, STEERING RETURNED TO NORMAL. STARTED BACK INTO TRAFFIC AND IMMEDIATELY SEIZED AGAIN BRIEFLY, RETURNING TO NORMAL. THIS WAS ALSO ACCOMPANIED BY A GRINDING NOISE. IMMEDIATELY RETURNED HOME. THANKFULLY IT WAS A SUNDAY AND TRAFFIC WASN'T HEAVY, AS THIS HAPPENED ON A WELL TRAVELED HIGHWAY THROUGH OUR TOWN. I HAD ONE OF MY CHILDREN WITH ME. MECHANIC WAS CALLED, VEHICLE NOT TAKEN TO SHOP YET. THIS ISSUE IS THE MOST FILED COMPLAINT ON THIS SITE, AND AN ABSOLUTE SAFETY ISSUE!!!! WHY IS THERE NOT A RECALL??? THE FOLLOWING WAS TAKEN DIRECTLY FROM THIS SITE: "WHAT IS A SAFETY-RELATED DEFECT? TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL VEERED TO THE LEFT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE RACK AND PINION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 133,000.
I WAS DRIVING FROM WORK, ON MY WAY TO PICK UP MY DAUGHTER. WHEN SUDDENLY THE HEATED SEAT IN MY CAR BEGAN TO GET HOTTER THAN USUAL, THE SEAT HAD SOON MALFUNCTIONED AND DISBURSE IN TO FLAME! LUCKILY I WAS CARRYING A BOTTLE OF WATER FROM MY JOB THAT I WAS DRINKING ON AT THE TIME. I KNEW I WASN'T FIT TO DRIVE MYSELF, AND I WASN'T TO FAR AWAY FROM MY FATHER'S HOUSE, AND WAS DRIVEN BY MY STEP SISTER TO THE E.R.
2008 FORD TAURUS. PARKED IN DRIVEWAY WITH FOOT ON BRAKE...ALL OF SUDDEN THE ENGINE ACCELERATES RAPIDLY AND I PROCEED TO HIT THE SIDE OF THE HOUSE. THE NEXT DAY WAS JUST SITTING AT STOPLIGHT WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND THE ENGINE FOR NO REASON ACCELERATES TO OVER 4000 RPM. *TR
I WAS BACKING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND I WAS TRYING TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AND I COULD NOT DO SO. FINALLY IT DID TURN. WHILE DRIVING I WAS HAVING DIFFICULTY STEERING. I WAS COMING OFF AN EXIT WHICH WAS VERY CURVY AND I ALMOST COULD NOT CONTROL THE STEERING OF THE CAR. *TR

ALSO, WHILE ATTEMPTING TO REVERSE, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL BANGING NOISE COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
THIS CAR HAS ONLY ABOUT 16,000 ON IT. I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN I STARTED GETTING THIS HARD JERK AND THEN THE CAR SPEED WENT DOWN TO ABOUT 30 MPH. AFTER A FEW MOMENTS, THE SPEED WILL PICK BACK UP FOR ABOUT A MILE OR 2. THE HARD JERK WILL COME AGAIN AND THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT CHANGE OUT PROPERLY. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSE AN ACCIDENT ON THE INTERSTATE, SO I GOT OFF THE INTERSTATE AND STARTED TRAVELING ON THE BACK ROADS TO MAKE IT HOME. BY THE TIME I GOT HOME, I COULD HAVE HARDLY MAKE IT. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS GONE OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I CALLED THE FORD COMPANY, BUT SAID IT WAS NOT A RECALL ON THE TRANSMISSION. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS ORDEAL, SOMEONE COULD HAVE GOTTEN HURT FROM THIS SITUATION. THE HARD JERK, THE SPEED DROPPING WHILE THE TRANSMISSION TRYING TO CHANGE OUT. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS MATTER. I AM SURE THIS HAS HAPPEN TO OTHERS, BUT HAS NOT BEEN REPORTED. *TR
HAD CRUISE CONTROL SET TO ON POSITION, I ACCELERATED TO PASS A CAR, THEN THE ACCELERATION CONTINUED ON EVEN THOUGH MY FOOT WAS OFF OF ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE CAR CONTINUED TO SPEED RAPIDLY WITH THE ENGINE REVVING EVEN THOUGH MY FOOT WAS PRESSED HARD ON THE BRAKE. I WAS ABLE TO SLOW THE CAR DOWN TO 60 WITH MY FOOT PRESSED HARD ON THE BRAKE. UNFORTUNATELY THERE WAS TRAFFIC AROUND ME AND I DID NOT HAVE THE ABILITY TO CONTROL THE SPEED OF THE CAR. I HAD TO MOVE ONTO THE ROAD SHOULDER TO AVOID HITTING THE CAR AHEAD OF ME. LUCKILY THE PAVED SHOULDER OF THE ROAD WAS GRATED AND SOMEHOW CAUSED THE CAR TO STOP (INTERMITTENT ACCELERATION 3X), AND THEN COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. UPON EXPLAINING THIS TO MY FATHER, HE WONDERS IF THE ACCELERATION CABLE STUCK WHEN I INITIALLY ATTEMPTED TO PASS A CAR AND THEN SHOOK LOOSE AND BECAME UNSTUCK WHEN DRIVING OVER THE GRATED ROAD - NOT SURE. I WAS GLAD TO MAKE IT OUT OF THAT SITUATION ALIVE BUT NEED YOUR ASSISTANCE IN HOW TO PROCEED WITH THIS PROBLEM. MY FATHER CALLED A FORD DEALER MECHANIC AND THEY WANT TO CHARGE FOR A DIAGNOSTIC AND REPAIR. I FEEL THAT THIS SHOULD NOT BE OUR RESPONSIBILITY AS THIS IS POSSIBLY A MANUFACTURER DEFECT THAT SHOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF BY FORD. PLEASE ADVISE ME. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME. *TR
TRAVELLING HOME FROM MISSOURI TO OKLAHOMA WITH MY SON IN RAINY CONDITIONS I NOTICED THAT THE STEERING ON MY TAURUS WAS TIGHT AND DIFFICULT TO STEER TO THE RIGHT. THE CAR BECAME DIFFICULT TO STEER AND IT FELT LIKE THE POWER STEERING HAD BEEN LOST. WITHOUT WARNING THE CAR VEERED TO THE RIGHT AND BECAME UNSAFE. I SLOWED TO ABOUT 45 MPH AND WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE CAR. THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY FORD. FROM WHAT I'VE READ, THIS STEERING PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE COMMON TO THIS YEAR TAURUS. THE COST OF REPAIRS, FROM WHAT I'VE SEEN, AVERAGES ABOVE $1,000. WHAT, IF ANYTHING, IS BEING DONE TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. I DID READ OF ONE REPORT THAT OCCURRED WHILE THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ITEM BECAUSE IT IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE! *JS

THE LOSS OF ENGINE POWER WITH NO PRIOR WARNING IS GOING TO GET PEOPLE KILLED.
