VEHICLE BEGAN TO OPERATE ERRATICALLY, BROUGHT TO DEALER FOR DIAGNOSES DETERMINED PCM FAILED AND IGNITION COILS WERE BAD REPLACED. WHEN ON ROAD COULD CAUSE VEHICLE TO BEHAVE IN HIGHLY DANGEROUS MANNER THAT EVEN AN EXPERIENCED DRIVER COULD FACE INJURY OR DEATH AND DANGER OTHERS ON ROAD. MILLAGE APPROXIMATELY 93000. NO WARNING SIGN WERE GIVEN.
A RIGHT SIDE LICENSE PLATE LIGHT BURNED OUT. THERE IS A LEFT LAMP, ALSO. I NOTICED IT WHEN I WALKED AROUND THE VEHICLE FOR A GASOLINE REFILL. THERE IS NO DASH BOARD PROMPT FOR THIS LAMP BURN OUT. WHEN I WENT TO REPLACE THE LAMP A COUPLE DAYS LATER, I NOTICED RUST SPOTS BETWEEN A PLASTIC TRIM PIECE AND THE TRUNK LID. I MONITOR THE LICENSE LAMPS NOW. I HAVE NOT HAD A LICENSE LAMP BURN OUT UNTIL I NOTICED THE RUST ON THE METAL PANEL. I QUESTION THE COINCIDENCE OF THE LAMP BURN OUT AND THE RUST. A POSSIBLE SHORT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN COMPLETING A LEFT TURN, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD BECOME SEIZE AND EXHIBIT AND ABNORMAL POP SOUND. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE ENTIRE RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLY WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 51,000. *TR
WHEN AMBIENT TEMP IS BELOW 20 DEGREES, HARSH 2-1 DOWNSHIFT WITH IMPACT AFTER STOPPING AND RESTARTING. THE TRANSMISSION DOESN'T SEEM TO BE IN ANY GEAR UNTIL MOVEMENT STARTS THENNA HIGH IMPACT BANG OCCURS JUST AS THE CAR BEGINS TO MOVE. AFTER ABOUT 1 MILE, THE PROBLEM GOES AWAY UNTIL NEXT COLD START UP. FORD DEALER STATED THEY REPLACED VALVE BODY BECAUSE OF STICKY VALVES. PROBLEM STILL THERE. RETURNED TO DEALER AND THEY CONTACTED FORD. FORD SERVICE TECH(FORD SERVICE REQUEST #106142903) SAYS PROBLEM IS NORMAL. THIS PROBLEM NEVER OCCURRED THE LAST 2 WINTERS I HAVE HAD THE CAR AND FORD LOANER CAR I HAD WHILE THEY WORKED ON MY CAR DID NOT HAVE THIS HARSH DOWNSHIFT. THIS TRANSMISSION IS A JOINT DEVELOPMENT WITH GM AND I KNOW A BUICK OWNER WITH SIMILAR COMPLAINT AND BUICK COULD NOT REPAIR THE PROBLEM-HE TRADED CARS. WARRANTY WILL END FOR MY CAR THIS COMING JULY AND I THINK I WILL HAVE A HUGE REPAIR TO BE MADE ON THIS TRANSMISSION NEXT WINTER AS THE PROBLEM HAS GOTTEN STEADILY WORST SINCE LAST FALL (2012 WINTER SEASON) BUT ONLY WHEN TEMP IS 20 DEGREES OR COLDER. AT HIGHWAY SPEED, VEHICLE SUDDENLY, WITHOUT ANY WARNING LIGHTS, STOPS RUNNING, RESULTING IN LOSS OF ALL POWER ASSIST TO MANEUVER VEHICLE TO SAFETY. UNABLE TO RESTART VEHICLE. TOWED TO REPAIR SHOP. PROBLEM DETERMINED TO BE FAILURE OF "COIL ON PLUG" IGNITION COILS, WHICH SHORTED OUT PCM/PROCESSOR ASSEMBLY (MAIN COMPUTER). ADDITIONALLY, THIS MIS-FIRING RESULTED IN PARTIAL LOW EFFIENCY IN CATALYTIC CONVERTER, WHICH WILL EVENTUALLY IMPAIR VEHICLE'S ABILITY TO MEET EMISSION STANDARDS. TOTAL REPAIR COSTS: IGNITION COILS (6), SPARK PLUGS (6), AND PCM REPLACEMENT - $2,314.14, CATALYTIC CONVERTER REPLACEMENT - $1,589.95, FOR A TOTAL OF $3,904.09 FORD MOTOR COMPANY HAS BEEN AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM SINCE AT LEAST 2010, AND HAS ISSUED TWO TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS REGARDING THIS PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH AND MAKING A RIGHT TURN, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE RACK AND PINION WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE RACK AND PINION WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED A SECOND TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,898. *TR
AT A COMPLETE STOP, AND WAITING TO TURN, ENGINE REVVED UP AND LURCHED FORWARD FOR NO APPARENT REASON. (UNINTENDED ACCELERATION). FOOT WAS ON BRAKE AT THE TIME. THIS OCCURRED TWICE WITHIN AN HOUR ON THE SAME DAY. *TR
ON 8/28/12 THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE LONG ISLAND EXPRESSWAY. ON 8/29/12 I BROUGHT THE CAR INTO SYOSSET FORD OF HUNTINGTON ("SYOSSET")FOR DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR OF THE MALFUNCTION CAUSING THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO GO ON. SYOSSET DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A MALFUNCTIONING FUEL SENDER ATTACHED ABOVE THE TAURUS' FUEL TANK. SYOSSET EFFECT A REPAIR BY REPLACING THE FUEL SENDER AND CHARGED ME $411.38(BEFORE SALES TAX). ON 9/4/12 I SMELLED GASOLINE FUMES IN THE DRIVER/PASSENGER COMPARTMENT, BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO SYOSSET WHO EFFECTED A REPAIR OF THE LEAKING FUEL SENDER. ON 9/27/12, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON AGAIN, I BROUGHT THE CAR BACK AGAIN TO SYOSSET ON 9/28/12. SYOSSET DIAGNOSED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AS CAUSED BY THE MALFUNCTIONING FUEL SENDER AND POSSIBLY OTHER COMPONENTS. THEY COULD NOT EFFECT A REPAIR ON 9/28/12 BECAUSE THEY ID NOT HAVE PARTS OR PERSONNEL TO EFFECT THE REPAIR AND SCHEDULED ME TO BRING THE CAR BACK ON 10/10/12, WHILE ASSURING ME IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. ON 10/10/12 I BROUGHT THE CAR BACK TO SYOSSET, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS OUT AND THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. I BELIEVE THE FUEL SENDER IS A DEFECTIVE COMPONENT THAT POSES A SERIOUS DANGER TO THE PUBLIC. FORD HAD TO RECALL ITS 2012 ESCAPES FOR FUEL LINE DEFECTS, I BELIEVE THIS DEFECTIVE FUEL SENDER IS AS DANGEROUS AS THE ESCAPE'S DEFECTIVE FUEL LINES.
ON WED. AUG, 1, 2012, I WAS DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ON MY 2008 FORD TAURUS SPED UP BY ITSELF. I THOUGHT THE CRUISE BUTTON CAME ON BY ITSELF OR THAT THE FLOOR MAT WAS STUCK ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL CAR CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO GO GOING REAL FAST, (BUT IT WASN'T) I HIT THE BRAKE, MOVED TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER AND PUT THE CAR IN LOW THEN NEUTRAL THEN TURNED THE CAR OFF. IT HAPPENED AGAIN TWO DAYS LATER, ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 3, 2012 AND I WAS ON THE EXPRESSWAY AGAIN. SCARED ME TO DEATH, AND IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS, I AM TAKING IT IN TO A FORD DEALER FOR REPAIR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN JERKING VIOLENTLY. THE ENGINE RPMS ALSO INCREASED EXCESSIVELY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST, WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED AND THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE VEHICLE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91,000.
MY WIFE HAD A KOHL'S BAG IN THE TRUNK. SOME HOW THE CENTER STOP LIGHT WHICH IS A HIGH INTENSITY BULB CAME LOSE WHICH LET IT DROP DOWN ABOUT 8" CAUGHT THE BAG ON FIRE. IT SMOLDERED ALL NIGHT AND WAS NOT NOTICEABLE UNTIL THE NEXT MORNING. WE OPENED THE DETACHED GARAGE DOOR BUT DID NOT SUSPECT ANYTHING FOR AT LEAST AN HOUR AFTER I OPENED THE DOOR. MY WIFE WAS IN TRAFFIC ON THE WAY HOME THE DAY BEFORE WHEN THE STOP LIGHT MUST HAVE BEEN GOING OFF AND ON. SHE SAID SHE NEVER NOTICED THE BULB HANGING DOWN. THE CAR WAS NOT DAMAGED EXPECT FOR THE REAL THINK SMOKE DAMAGE TO THE WHOLE CAR. I BOUGHT THIS CAR USED SO I AM NOT SURE IF THE BULB WAS EVER REPLACED.THE LIGHT WORKS FINE AFTER FIRE BUT THE BULB PUTS OFF SO MUCH HEAT THAT YOU CAN NOT TOUCH IT WHEN YOU STEP ON THE BREAK. I COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING ON THE INTERNET WHERE THIS HAS HAPPENED BEFORE. *TR
PAINT ON MY 2008 FORD TAURUS LIMITED IS PEELING OFF IN CHUNKS AND BUBBLING UP IN OTHER SPOTS. BOTH REAR WHEEL AREAS, SPOILER AND PROBABLY MORE YET TO BE DISCOVERED. I HAVE VISITED OUR LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP IN 2012 AND 2013 AND I AM BEING TOLD THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE. I HAVE ALSO CONTACTED FORD ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS AND WAS TOLD THIS ISSUE WAS OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY PERIOD. UNDERSTAND THIS IS A FORD ISSUE. THEY ARE SELLING AN INFERIOR PRODUCT THAT NEEDS TO BE RECTIFIED. SO WE SPEND 20-30K ON A CAR TO HAVE IT LOOK NICE FOR A FEW YEARS AND THEN MUST PAY SOMEONE TO REPAINT THE ENTIRE CAR OR FIX THE AREA'S BUBBLING? HOW SHOULD THE CONSUMER BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR AN ISSUE THAT HAPPENED IN THE FACTORY? AT THIS POINT FORD NEEDS TO STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND TAKE OWNERSHIP OF ISSUES IN THERE PAINT PLANTS....AFTER THIS EXPERIENCE I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER FORD VEHICLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE, THE VEHICLE WOULD JERK ABNORMALLY AND EVERY WARNING LIGHT ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE PULLED OVER AND TRIED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT HAD TO DEPRESS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IN ORDER FOR THE VEHICLE TO START BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE FORWARD WHEN SHIFTED INTO DRIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE THEY ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE SEEMED TO FUNCTION NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD TAURUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED WHILE DRIVING 55-60 MPH. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO REDUCE THE SPEED BY APPLYING THE BRAKE WITH FORCE. THE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED A SECOND TIME AND THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC PERFORMED BUT WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 53,000.

THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE COMPUTER WAS PROVIDING INCORRECT CODES TO THE TRANSMISSION, RESULTING IN A TRANSMISSION FAILURE. THE TECHNICIAN ALSO STATED THAT THE COMPUTER REQUIRED A PROGRAMMING REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000.

THE FAILURE WAS LOCATED AT THE AIR CONDITIONING CONDENSER. THE AIR CONDITIONING CONDENSER WAS REPLACED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO JERK WHEN ACCELERATING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 106,556.

THE RACK PINION ASSEMBLY NEEDS REPLACING AFTER ONLY 29431 MILES. THE DEALER ALSO RECOMMENDS REPLACING THE SWAY BAR ASSEMBLY; HOWEVER, NO PHYSICAL DAMAGE TO THE SWAY BAR ASSEMBLY IS EVIDENT. THE RACK AND PINION HAS NOT DEGRADED TO THE POINT OF BINDING OR INHIBITING STEERING AT THIS TIME. BUT, IT OBVIOUSLY WILL DO SO IN THE FUTURE AND REQUIRES ATTENTION. I NOTE THAT THIS IS A FREQUENT OCCURRENCE WITH THIS ASSEMBLY BASED ON OTHER COMPLAINTS AT THIS SITE. I HAVE WRITTEN TO FORD ([XXX]) BUT WITH NO RESPONSE TO DATE. THE FAILURE WAS DIAGNOSED ON 1/25/2012 AFTER MY COMPLAINING ABOUT A POP IN THE STEERING ASSEMBLY DURING TURNS. NO OTHER INCIDENT OCCURRED. OVER THE PAST TWO MONTHS, (THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE) WHILE DRIVING MY 2008 FORD TAURUS, THE GAS PEDDLE STUCK TO THE FLOOR. IT WAS ALMOST LIKE IT ACCELERATED AS IF I WAS RESUMING THE CRUISE CONTROL BUTTON, HOWEVER, I WASN'T USING MY CRUISE AT THE TIME. I ENDED UP RIDING THE BREAKS FOR AWHILE UNTIL I FINALLY HAD TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND TURN THE KEY OFF. WHEN I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON IT WAS STILL STUCK. I PHYSICALLY HAD TO REACH DOWN AND PULL THE PEDDLE UP OFF THE FLOOR. THE SECOND TIME THAT IT HAPPENED IT DID THE SAME THING BUT THEN IT QUIT AFTER I TURNED THE KEY OFF. *TR
FRONT AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY IN FRONTAL CRASH AT 50 MPH, SIDE CURTAIN DID DEPLOY HOWEVER FRONT END OF AUTO WAS DESTROYED. *TR

THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,000.

UPDATE ON TRANSMISSION FLUID LOSS OF 10/27/11. TRANSMISSION OIL LOSS UNBEKNOWN TO ME UNTILL THE TRANSMISSION STARTED TO FAIL IT'S NORMAL FUNCTION. THE CAUSE WAS A LEAK IN THE TRANS COOLER COMBO UNIT. THE FLUID ACCUMULATED AT THE BASE OF THE RADIATOR. WHILE IT WAS ON THE LIFT I REQUESTED A CHECK OF THE SURPINTINE BELT BECAUSE IT WAS SQUEELING. THEY MADE THE DICOVERY THAT THE BELT WAS COVERED WITH TRANSMISSION FLUID. ALL THIS TIME, WHILE DRIVING, THE TRANS. OIL WAS BEING SPRAYED OVER THE BELT CAUSING IT TO SLIP OVER THE PULLEYS OF THE POWER STEERING, AC UNIT PUMP AND OTHER EQUIPMENT BEING DRIVEN BY THIS BELT.THINGS COULD HAVE TURNED OUT VERY BADLY FOR ME AND MY PASSENGERS, BECAUSE OF AN OIL SOAKED SURPINTINE BELT, NOT TO MENTION THE FIRE HAZARD. MY COST WAS $750.00. HOW DO I GO ABOUT RECOVERING THAT COST. 78 YEARS OLD. LET OTHER PEOPLE KNOW OF A POSSIBLE PROBLEM WITH TRANS. FLUID LEAKAGE. AND YET I LOVE MY TAURUS. *TT

SINCE WHEN DOES ONE HAVE TO REMOVE MOST OF THE FRONT OF THE CAR TO GET TO THE RADIATOR SECTION.? *TT
WHILE DRIVING HOME SUNDAY EVENING ON 10/02/20011, STEERING ASSIST FAILED AND FELT LIKE IT MIGHT LOCK UP. DROVE THE REST OF THE WAY HOME WITH PARTIAL STEERING ASSIST. BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE FORD DEALER THE NEXT MORNING. THEY SAID THE STEERING GEAR FAILED. COST TO REPAIR $985.00 PLUS TAX. *TR
IT BEGAN WITH ONLY THE WRENCH LIGHT GOING ON AND THE RPM WOULD GO UP AND THE CAR WOULD LURCH FORWARD. I WOULD RESET IT WITH A CODE CHECKER AND I WOULD NOT HAVE THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM AND THE LIGHT WOULD EVENTUALLY RETURN. IT WAS RECOMMENDED TO CHANGE THE AIR FILTER, THE AIR FILTER WAS CHANGED AND THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY FOR APPROXIMATELY 3 WEEKS. NOW NOT ONLY MY WRENCH LIGHT BUT MY ENGINE LIGHT ALSO GOES ON AND IT RETURNS EVERY DAY AFTER RESETTING IT. AFTER I LOOKED UP THE PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET I FOUND THAT THE PROBLEMS SEEMS TO APPEAR IN OTHER FORD MODELS. I AM VERY SURPRISED THAT THIS IS NOT A RECALL. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND EVENTUALLY SOMEONE WILL GET HURT OR KILLED BEFORE ANYTHING IS DONE ABOUT THIS ISSUE. *KB

NEED A CHANGE TO DAYLIGHT RUNNING LIGHTS ON AUTOS AND TRUCKS. THEY NEED TO HAVE THE TAIL LIGHTS ON ALSO. BETTER YET, HAVE ALL NEW VEHICLES HAVE HEADLIGHTS AND TAILLIGHTS THAT COME ON WHEN VEHICLE IS STARTED. SO MANY STATES HAVE LAWS THAT YOU NEED THE LIGHTS ON IN RAIN, FOG, DAWN & DUSK. ITS REALLY A PROBLEM WHEN OTHERS WON'T PUT THEIR LIGHTS ON WHEN ITS RAINING OR IN THE FOG. SO THE PROBLEM COULD BE ELIMINATED BY HAVING THE LIGHTS COME ON ANYTIME THE CAR IS RUNNING LIKE MOTORCYCLES ARE REQUIRED. SOME AUTOS HAVE DAYLIGHTS WHEN RUNNING BUT NO TAIL LIGHTS. THEN THEY FORGET TO PUT THEIR REGULAR LIGHTS ON AT NIGHT OR IN THE FOG/RAIN. I THINK THAT THIS SHOULD BE ADDRESSED IMMEDIATELY AND HAVE IT GO INTO LAW ASAP. NO INCIDENTS TO REPORT BUT I BET THEIR ARE ALLOT OUT THERE, NEAR MISSES AND ACCIDENTS. *TR
I WAS APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT, DECELERATING AT APPROXIMATELY 5 TO 8 WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR SPED UP SIGNIFICANTLY PUSHING THE CAR FORWARD. EVEN THOUGH I APPLIED HEAVY FORCE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE ENGINE AND RPM GAUGE KEPT INCREASING TO BETWEEN 1800 AND 2400 RPM'S, FAR FROM THE AVG OF 800 WHEN COMING TO A STOP. I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND THE RPM AND ENGINE SPEED KEPT INCREASING JUST AS IF THE ACCELERATOR WAS STUCK. I PUT IT IN PARK AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I PULLED THE HANDBREAK AND IMMEDIATELY TURNED THE KEY OFF. UPON RESTARTING THE CAR, THE IDLE WAS NORMAL. THIS IS THE 3RD TIME IT HAS HAPPENED.
ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS, MY 2008 FORD TAURUS SEL AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION DROPPED OUT OF GEAR WHILE I WAS ACCELERATING SLOWLY AWAY FROM A STOP AND THEN SLAMMED INTO GEAR. THE FIRST TIME IT OCCURRED I WAS LEAVING MY DRIVEWAY. IT DROPPED OUT OF GEAR AT ABOUT 5 MPH AND MADE A GROWLING NOISE. I STOPPED THE CAR, THINKING SOMEHOW THE SHIFT LEVER WASN'T IN THE RIGHT POSITION, I PUT IT IN GEAR AND THE TRANSMISSION SLAMMED INTO FIRST. I HAD MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE, SO I JUST SHIFTED IT INTO NEUTRAL AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF. WHEN I STARTED IT AGAIN EVERYTHING WORKED FINE. ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF LATER I HAD A SIMILAR INCIDENT. I WAS LEAVING A PARKING LOT AND I HAD REACHED A SPEED OF 5-15 MPH WHEN THERE WAS NO LONGER ANY GEAR, THEN IT SLAMMED INTO GEAR FOR A MOMENT, WENT A FEW FEET, THEN DROPPED OUT AGAIN, THEN SLAMMED INTO GEAR AGAIN. I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE CURB IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA AND TURN THE ENGINE OFF. FORTUNATELY NO TRAFFIC WAS COMING. I STARTED THE ENGINE AGAIN AND HAD NO FURTHER TROUBLE, BUT THIS TIME I TOOK IT INTO THE FORD DEALER WHERE I HAD BOUGHT IT NEW. THEY CHECKED IT OUT KEEPING IT TWO DAYS BUT SAID THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH EITHER THE TRANSMISSION OR THE SOFTWARE CONTROLLING IT. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NO MEMORY ACCESS TO THE TRANSMISSION SO THAT THEY COULDN'T FIND OUT OR VERIFY THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM. I WAS CHECKING OUT RECALLS AND SERVICE BULLETINS ON IT TODAY AND I FOUND THAT OTHER OWNERS REPORTED SIMILAR PROBLEMS. IF I HAD BEEN PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC AND MY TRANSMISSION FAILED THE WAY IT DID, THERE COULD EASILY HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT. *KB
WHILE ATTEMPTING TO BACK INTO A PARKING SPACE, I WAS UNABLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE. I HAD HELP DRIVING IT TO MY LOCAL SERVICE STATION, THINKING PERHAPS THE POWER STEERING HAD GONE OUT. AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, I WAS ADVISED TO HAVE IT TOWED TO MY FORD DEALER IN TUPELO, MS WHERE THE DETERMINED THAT THE RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLY HAD GONE OUT. WHILE DRIVING MY 2008 FORD TAURUS WITH 80K MILES ON 01-21-11 THE CAR STARTED MISSING. DROVE THE VEHICLE DIRECTLY TO MY MECHANIC. DIAGNOSIS WAS A BADLY BURNT COIL ON THE #2 CYLINDER. IN ORDER TO GET TO THE #2 CYLINDER AND SPARK PLUGS MY MECHANIC MADE ME AWARE THAT THE AIR INTAKE MANIFOLD NEEDS TO BE REMOVED AND WHILE THAT IS TAKING PLACE I SHOULD HAVE A TUNEUP SINCE ONE IS RECOMMENDED AT 90K ANYWAY. COIL IN THE #2 CYLINDER WAS REPLACED AND TUNEUP COMPLETED AND CAR WAS STILL MISSING. FURTHER DIAGNOSIS SHOWED THAT THE COMPUTER THAT RUNS THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION WAS RUINED WHEN THE COIL BURNT OUT AND FOR THE CAR TO RUN AS IT IS SUPPOSED TO IT WILL ALSO NEED THIS COMPUTER. SO I AM GOING TO INCUR A $1000.00 OR MORE IN EXPENSE BECAUSE MY EXCELLENT CONDITION 08', 80,0000 MILE CAR IS MISSING. IT WOULD SEEM TO ME THAT A SYSTEM THAT ALLOWS THIS MUCH POSSIBLE DAMAGE AND EXPENSE TO HAPPEN WHEN A COIL GOES BAD IS A FLAWED SYSTEM. *TR
