ABS WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND REMAINED ON. WAS TOLD BY MECHANIC THAT IT WAS A BAD SENSOR ON THE LEFT FRONT BRAKE AND THAT THE BRAKES OPERATED CORRECTLY. *JS
HIT BRAKES AND HEARD POPPING A CRACKING TOOK TO SHOP AND THEY SAID THE FRONT SUBFRAME WAS CRACKED AND NEED TO BE FIXED. *TR
THE (MOSTLY UN-SERVICEABLE) ECU MASTER RELAY HAS A BAD SOLDIER JOINT WHICH FAILS PREMATURELY AND CAUSES THE ABS LIGHT AND DTC C1185. IT ALSO CAUSES THE ENHANCED ABS BRAKING SYSTEM TO BECOME INOPERABLE. IF YOUR ABS LIGHT IS ON. *JB
WHILE TRAVELING AT 55MPH NOTICED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER WAS READING 26MPH. SPEEDOMETER CONTINUES TO READ BELOW ACTUAL SPEED. *JS
IN JUNE OF 2012 THE ABS LIGHT BEGAN TO INTERMITTENTLY COME ON. REPAIR SHOP REPLACED THE RELAYS AND THE LIGHT STAYED OFF UNTIL OCTOBER 2012. REPAIR SHOP REPLACED THE ABS CONTROL UNIT. AGAIN THIS FIXED THE INTERMITTENT LIGHT, HOWEVER, WITHIN A FEW MONTHS THE LIGHT WAS COMING ON THIS TIME SHORTLY AFTER THE CAR WAS STARTED AND STAYING ON. IT CURRENTLY COMES ON WHEN I START THE CAR AND STAYS ON. I DON'T KNOW IF THE ABS BREAKING SYSTEM IS ACTUALLY WORKING. THE BREAKS DO WORK, BUT THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE THAT AS LONG AS I CAN STOP THE CAR I IGNORE THE ABS LIGHT. I NOW WANT TO KNOW IF THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS. THE CAR ONLY HAS 97500 MILES ON IT AND HAS BEEN GARAGED KEPT FOR THE LAST 77500 MILES. I GOT THIS AS A COMPANY CAR AT 19000 MILES AND PURCHASED IT FROM MY COMPANY AT 75000 MILES. *TR

ABC LIGHT APPEARED - LOSS OF BRAKE PEDDLE RESET AFTER TURNING OFF THE ENGINE IN JUNE OF 2012 ABS LIGHT CAN ON - GARAGE REPLACED ABS MODULE THEN IN AUGUST ABS LIGHT CAN ON WAITING ON A SECOND USED ABS MODULE. *TR
WE CAME FROM EATING BREAKFAST TO A DEAD BATTERY, THEN WE HAD SOMEONE HELP US TO JUMP IT; HOWEVER, MY HUSBAND NOTICED THE ELECTRICAL WAS NOT WORKING, AND IT WAS STILL RUNNING, BUT VERY SLOW. IT FINALLY GAVE UP AND WE HAD TO TOW IT, AND HAVE SOMEONE LOOK AT IT. WE ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE PROBLEM, SO HOPEFULLY FORD WILL HAVE A NOTICE OR SOMETHING IN THE MAIL SOON. WE HAVE HAD PROBLEMS BEFORE WITH THE BATTERY, AND THINKING MAYBE THAT IS THE PROBLEM, BUT WE ARE HEARING STORIES FROM ONLINE OF OTHER ISSUES THAT COULD OF CAUSED THIS. *JS

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN FOR A STATE INSPECTION AND SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE CRADLE WAS CRACKED AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT PASS THE INSPECTION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WERE NO OTHER EXISTING FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 11V030000 (STRUCTURE: FRAME AND MEMBERS: UNDERBODY SHIELDS), BUT THE DEALER ONLY REPLACED THE BRACKETS, WHICH CAUSED THE CRADLE TO CRACK. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 171,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 12V195000 (SUSPENSION:REAR:AXLE:NON-POWERED AXLE ASSEMBLY) AND WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE REAR COIL SPRINGS ALSO NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO CORROSION. THE REAR COIL SPRINGS WERE NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.

BRAKING DISTANCE SUDDENLY INCREASED. IT IS GETTING HARDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. *TR
THE SUBFRAME ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WHERE THE BRACKET FOR THE FRONT STABILIZER IS ATTACHED RUSTED COMPLETELY THROUGH, CAUSING THE STABILIZER BAR TO BREAK LOOSE. *TT
ON SUNDAY 5/20/12, UPON STARTING OUR 2000 FORD WINDSTAR VAN, I NOTICED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER WAS NOT WORKING AND THE ABS (YELLOW) LIGHT WAS PERSISTENTLY ON. (HOWEVER THE RED BRAKE LIGHT THAT HAD BEEN SHINING ON THE DASHBOARD PERSISTENTLY FOR MANY, MANY MONTHS, EVEN AFTER RECALL SERVICING, WAS NOW OFF.) DRIVING FOR A FEW MINUTES, WE REALIZED THAT THE AIR CONDITIONING WAS NOT PUTTING OUT COOL AIR, ONLY WARM, AND THAT THE ODOMETER WAS DISPLAYING ONLY DASHES. I SHOULD ALSO MENTION, NOW THAT I HAVE READ UP ON THESE PROBLEMS, WHICH HAD SEEMED UNRELATED, BUT ARE APPARENTLY ALL TRACEABLE TO A DEFECTIVE/LEAKING SDCD, THAT THE CRUISE CONTROL ON THIS VEHICLE HAS NOT WORKED FOR MANY MONTHS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIRS UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V385000 (POWER TRAIN:AXLE ASSEMBLY). AFTER THE REPAIRS, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR AXLE WAS STILL FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 160,000.
MY SON WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MILES PER HOUR THE BACK AXEL FRACTURED. THIS RESULTED IN HIM CRASHING INTO THE CENTER CEMENT DEVIDER AS WELL AS THE FROM LEFT CONTROL ARM BREAKING AS WELL. HE HAD TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL AND GET CHECKED OUT. IT IS A SHAME THAT I HAVE TO FIND OUT ABOUT THIS RECALL THROUGH MY INSURER.

WORK WAS PERFORMED ON THE SUB FRAME OF THE 2000 FORD WINDSTAR REFERENCED ABOVE ON APRIL 16, 2012, AS A RESULT OF A FORD RECALL NOTICE, NUMBER: 11S16. THE RECALL DESCRIPTION IS AS FOLLOWS: "CORROSION-RELATED FRACTURES OF THE FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM REAR ATTACHING BRACKETS AND BODY MOUNT ATTACHMENTS MAY OCCUR. A SEPARATION OF A FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM REAR ATTACHING BRACKET MAY RESULT IN A LOWER CONTROL ARM SEPARATION. A SEPARATION OF BOTH FRONT SUBFRAME REAR BODY MOUNTS MAY RESULT IN SEPARATION OF THE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT. EITHER CONDITION COULD RESULT IN SIGNIFICANT LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH." THE WORK DONE ON APRIL 16, 2012 WAS PERFORMED BY SHEEHY FORD IN GAITHERSBURG, MD. WHO INSTALLED NEW BRACKETS ON THE SUB FRAME, TO PREVENT THE SUB FRAME FROM BREAKING AND/OR ERODING. AT THE TIME, THERE WAS A GREAT DEAL OF ADVANCED RUSTING ON THE SUB FRAME. ON AUGUST 30, 2014, THE CAR WAS TAKEN BACK TO SHEEHY FORD, AFTER LOUD KNOCKING NOISES COULD BE HEARD UNDER THE HOOD. SHEEHY FORD LOOKED AT THE CAR, CONSULTED WITH THEIR TECHNICIANS AND REPORTED BACK ON SEPTEMBER 4, 2014 THAT THE SUB FRAME HAD RUSTED THROUGH. THE SOUNDS COMING FROM THE CAR WERE DUE TO THE UNSTABLE SUB FRAME, WHICH HOLDS THE PARTS OF THE CAR IN PLACE. THEY ALSO ADVISED THE CAR WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. AFTER AN ADDITIONAL REVIEW, SHEEHY FORD CONCLUDED THAT THE PREVIOUS WORK IN APRIL OF 2012 WAS SUFFICIENT TO HOLD THE SUB FRAME. THEY HAVE SINCE HELD FAST TO THEIR CLAIM THAT NO FURTHER "PROGRAMS" ARE AVAILABLE TO BE ABLE TO REPAIR THE CURRENT PROBLEM OF A RUSTED SUB FRAME IN THE CAR. A COMPLAINT WAS ALSO MADE THROUGH FORD MOTOR COMPANY CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER. THEY TOOK THE COMPLAINT AND PROVIDED A CASE NUMBER OF: 5190828L6X2X4X, BUT ULTIMATELY THEIR DECISION IS THE SAME AS SHEEHY: NO OTHER PROGRAMS ARE AVAILABLE TO COVER THE COST OF ANY ADDITIONAL REPAIR TO THE CAR. 1/5/15.
ABS BRAKE LIGHT COME ON AFTER A SHORT TIME OF DRIVING AND DOES NOTE GO OFF TILL ENGINE IS OFF, THE WINDSTAR HAS HAD MULTIPLE RECALLS DONE TO IT LIKE THE RUSTY PARTS REPAIR,IM GETTING TIRED OF THIS I EVEN HAD THEN DO SOMETHING SOME WORK TO MY TRANSMISSION,AND I HAD SOME ENGINE ISSUES,I WISHES THEY WOULD BUY IT BACK OR REPAIR THESE CRAZY PROBLEMS BECAUSE ITS COSTING ME MORE TIME AND MONEY. *TR
MASSIVELY ERRATIC BEHAVIOR OF THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. ALL OF THE GAUGES; THE SPEEDOMETER AND RPM GAUGES, HEAT AND ALL JUST JUMP RAPIDLY UP AND DOWN. SOMETIMES THEY GIVE FALSE INDICATORS. THE HEAT METER ARM GOES UP WHEN IT IS NOT HOT. IT'S REALLY SCARY. IT'S BEEN GOING ON FOR WEEKS. IT DOESN'T HAPPEN OFTEN AND I AM NOT SURE WHY IT HAPPENS. THIS IS A MINIVAN I.E. A FAMILY CAR. I CANNOT WAIT TO GET RID OF THIS CAR. I'LL NEVER BUY A FORD AGAIN. *JS

MY CAR NEEDS A NEW ABS MODULE LOCKING FOR INFORMATION AND MAYBE A CHEAPER ONE ( BRIAN HOSKINS DEALERSHIP WANT TO CHARGE ME $ 945.00 + LABOR) I FOUND OUT THERE IS MORE PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. ABS LIGHT TURN ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING. MOST OF THE TIME WHEN I STARTED THE CAR THE ABS LIGHT IS OFF, BUT AFTER DRIVING MAY BE 10 TO 15 MILES, THE ABS LIGHT WILL TURN ON AND STAY ON UNTIL I TURN OFF THE ENGINE. SOMETIMES ABS LIGHT IS ON AFTER I START THE CAR. WHEN I TOOK IT TO MECHANIC, THE LIGHT IS OFF, AND HE COULDN'T FIND THE PROBLEM. IT IS SO FRUSTRATED. *TR
AFTER HEARING A LOUD CRACKING NOISE FROM REAR AREA OF THE 2000 FORD WINDSTAR, HUSBAND INVESTIGATED AND FOUND A LARGE CRACK IN THE REAR AXLE. I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER RELATIONS TODAY WHO AFTER LOOKING AT MY VIN TOLD ME THAT WHILE EVERYTHING IS THE SAME (IE: THE LOCATION OF THE CRACK, YEAR AND MODEL OF THE VEHICLE) AS IN RECALL #10S13, THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO BECAUSE THE VAN WASN'T MADE AT THE FACILITY THAT THE RECALLED PARTS WERE MADE. HOW IS IT NOT COVERED AND IT'S EXACTLY THE SAME? VERY RUDE CUSTOMER RELATION GUY, I MIGHT ADD. VERY UNHAPPY FORD OWNER. *TR

AFTER EXAMINING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED A 20 INCH LONG FRACTURE ON THE REAR AXLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED AND NO REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE CURRENT AND THE FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 170,000.
DEAR SIR/MADAM I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT FOR A FORD WINDSTAR 2000, THE REAR AXEL, WHICH WAS ON RECALL AND FORD HAD CONTACTED US TO HAVE IT REPLACED, HOWEVER AFTER CALLING FORD AND ALL THE NEAREST DEALERS AND WE ACTUALLY WENT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP AS WELL. NO DEALERSHIP WAS ABLE TO PROVIDE THE RECALL REPLACEMENT FOR THE AXLE OR ANY REPAIRS IN THAT MATTER. THANKS, FORD OWNER *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SLIDING DOORS WOULD PERIODICALLY LOCK AND NOT UNLOCK. THE FAILURE ALTERNATED BETWEEN EACH REAR SLIDING DOOR. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 177,000. ....UPDATED 06/18/12 *BF
AS IS TYPICAL WITH THE WINDSTAR, THE DEACTIVATION SWITCH IS LEAKING BRAKE FLUID. THUS, CAUSING PROBLEMS WITH THE ABS AND CRUISE. UNFORTUNATELY, FORD ALREADY HONORED THE RECALL (09S09) ON THIS VEHICLE. AT THAT TIME THE DEACTIVATION SWITCH WAS NOT LEAKING SO THEY INSTALLED A WIRE HARNESS TO AVOID A FIRE WHEN IT DID START LEAKING. (WHY PUT ON A WIRE HARNESS? BECAUSE THEY KNEW THE SWITCH WAS GOING TO FAIL. WHY NOT JUST REPLACE THE SWITCH IN THE FIRST PLACE?) NOW FORD WILL NOT RE-OPEN THE RECALL TO REPLACE THE SWITCH AND FIX THE OTHER RELATED PROBLEMS. *TR
MY ABS LIGHT NEVER GOES OFF. WE HAVE REPLACED BRAKES ETC AND THE ABS LIGHT CONTINUES TO STAY ON. *TR
2 WEEKS AFTER I BOUGHT, WHAT I THOUGHT WAS GOING TO BE THE BEST CAR I EVER OWNED, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. SINCE I'M A SINGLE MOM WITH 5 KIDS, IM VERY TIGHT ON MONEY, THEREFORE, I WENT TO THE AUTO PART STORE, PUT IT ON THE MACHINE, HOPING I COULD DO WHAT I DID WITH ALL OTHER VEHICLES I OWNED, BUY THE PARTS, GO ONLINE AND READ UP ON FIXING IT MY SELF. I HAD JUST PUT ALL MY SAVINGS INTO BUYING THE VAN. THE STORE CLERK, GIVES ME A LIST OF 4 CODES AND THE LIST OF POSSIBLE FIXES. I GET HOME GO ONLINE AND FOUND OUT THAT NOT ONLY IS IT NOT EASY FOR SOMEONE LIKE ME TO DO, BUT ITS GOING TO BE A GOOD $1200-$1500 FOR A MECHANIC TO FIX. AND WORSE OF ALL, IT AS BEEN A MAJOR ISSUE WITH THIS MAKE AND MODEL, FORD KNOWS ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND EVEN PUT OUT A REPAIR KIT JUST FOR THE ISSUE, BUT STILL REFUSES TO RECALL THE VEHICLE AFTER NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS. WELL YOUR LITTLE KIT MAYBE INEXPENSIVE FOR PEOPLE WHO CAN FIX IT THEM SELVES BUT WHEN YOU HAVE TO PAY A MECHANIC TO DO THE WORK ITS MORE THEN A SIMPLE REPAIR. IF A CAR AS BEEN TREATED GOOD BY ITS OWNER, AS NOT BEEN ABUSED AND MAINTENANCE KEPT UP WITH OVER THE YEARS, THEN THE ONLY MAJOR (ABOVE $1000) REPAIRS THAT WE SHOULD HAVE, ARE REPAIRS DUE TO ACCIDENTS OR NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. WHEN ALMOST EVER ONE WHO OWES ONE OF THEM AS THE SAME PROBLEM, AROUND THE SAME TIME, THEN IT IS A DEFECT IN THE MAKING OF THE CAR AND SHOULD BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE FORD COMPANY. THE FACT THAT FORD HAD TO COME UP WITH A REPAIR KIT, IS ADMITTING THERE IS A DEFECT WITH THE VAN. I SHOULD HAVE CHECK THIS WEBSITE BEFORE I BOUGHT THE VAN. DO YOUR RESEARCH PEOPLE! *TR
THE ANTILOCK BRAKING SYSTEM IS INTERMITTENT, AND SOMETIMES THE LIGHT WILL COME ON FOR NO PARTICULAR REASON. THIS SOMETIMES HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING. IT WILL DO THIS ON AND OFF, AFTER SHUTTING THE CAR DOWN, AND RESTARTING IT, OR SOMETIMES DURING DRIVING. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS LATER CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 101,000.

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS BEYOND REPAIR AND OFFERED TO BUY IT BACK. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 111,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD BANG AND THE VEHICLE BECAME RESISTANT TO ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED. THE CONTACT ALSO NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATING WITHOUT DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE BATTERY SHOULD BE REPLACED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED AFTER THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79.000.
I BROUGHT THIS VEHICLE ON 1/7/2012 FROM A FORD DEALERSHIP AND THE ABS LIGHT WOULD COME ON AFTER STARTING AND I ASKED THEM TO CHECK BEFORE I BROUGHT IT AND THEY SAID IT WAS JUST A SENSOR, SO WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE FORD REPAIR FOR THE TWO RECALLS OF THE REAR AXLE BRACKET AND SUBFRAME AND THEY CHECKED THE CAR AND SAID THE ABS MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THE RELAY INSIDE WAS DAMAGED. I CALLED FORD AND THEY STATED THAT THE RECALL FOR THE ABS WIRE WAS DONE ON 10/2011, BUT THE MODULE STILL WENT OR WENT BEFORE THAT AND THEY STATED THAT THEY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE AND IT WAS UP TO ME TO REPLACE. *TR
SITTING AT A STOPLIGHT, FOOT ON BRAKE. WHEN LIGHT TURNED GREEN, NORMAL PRESSURE ON ACCELERATOR. LOUD BANG SOUND. NO FORWARD OR REVERSE GEAR. PUT VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL AND PUSHED INTO NEARBY DRIVEWAY. VEHICLE TOWED THAT EVENING. FAULTY TRANSMISSION. FORD DEALER SAYS POSSIBLY BAD TORQUE CONVERTER. REBUILT TRANSMISSION INSTALLED. COST TO ME $3000. FORD CLAIMS NO RECALL ON THE PART OR THE ASSEMBLY. *TR
THE REAR SLING DOOR HAS DOOR LATCHES LOCKS LINKAGES PROBLEM IT DOES NOT CLOSE ALL THE WAY THE DOOR LATCHES DO NOT LATCH AND LOCK ALL THE WAY CLOSE MAKE IT UNSAFE THAT THE DOOR COULD OPEN AT ANY TIME FROM 0 TO 75 MPR IT'S A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR AND I CALLED FORD AND ASK ABOUT THE REAR AXLE RECALL AND DID NOT WANT TO FIX MY REAR AXLE AT ALL OR ANY OF THE RECALLS THAT IT HAS. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND SMOKE BEGAN TO EMIT FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE CONTACT DID NOT SEE FLAMES, BUT POURED WATER UNDER THE HOOD TO PUT OUT THE SMOKE. THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR STOPPED FUNCTIONING AFTER THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT WATER ENTERED THE WIPER MOTOR AND STARTED A FIRE. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 01V261000 (VISIBILITY:WINDSHIELD WIPER/WASHER:MOTOR), THAT MAY BE RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 142,000. UPDATED 02/22/12
I HAVE A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR LX THAT MY WIFE AND 5 KIDS USE LOCALLY THE VAN HAS ONLY 116,000 ON IT MY MECHANIC SAID THIS UPCOMING MARCH HE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE ROT AND CORROSION I BROUGHT IT TO POUGHKEEPSIE FORD FOR SUB FRAME INSPECTION RECALL THEY SAID THE REST IS NOT THEIR PROBLEM I DID RESEARCH ON THIS MATTER ON THE WEB IT IS NOTED THAT MANY CONSUMERS WERE REFUNDED UP TO 3000.00 OR THEY COULD USE THAT TOWARD ANOTHER VEHICLE PURCHASE WHICH IS WHAT I WANTED TO DO WHAT CAN I DO NOW I HAVE UNTIL MARC THAN I HAVE NO TRANSPORTATION THIS IS NOT FARE A 2000 WINDSTAR SHOULD LAST LONGER LIKE OTHER VEHICLES. *TR
MY WINDSTAR BEGAN TO SHIMMY LIKE A SKITTISH HORSE. WHEN I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL SERVICE STATION, THEY SAID THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES WERE READING AS IF THE WHEELS WERE GOING DIFFERENT SPEEDS AND TRYING TO COMPENSATE. EVENTUALLY THE SHIMMYING SENSATION STOPPED AND THE ANTI-LOCK BREAK LIGHT CAME ON, AND STAYED ON PERMANENTLY. I AM NOW AFRAID TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE WHEN IT IS RAINING OR SNOWING. FORD HAS INDICATED TO ME THAT THEY CONSIDER THIS TO BE MY PROBLEM, NOT THEIRS. HOW IS THIS NOT A RECALL ISSUE? THIS IS A PROBLEM WHICH CAN ENDANGER LIFE AND SAFETY OF MYSELF AND OTHERS; AND IT IS A PROBLEM WITH FORD'S DESIGN. I DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO FIX THIS, LET ALONE WHAT IT WILL COST. *TR
ABS LIGHT COMES ON SPORADICALLY. SOMETIMES THE ABS LIGHT ON THE DASH WILL ILLUMINATE IMMEDIATELY UPON STARTING THE CAR AND SOMETIMES IT WILL LIGHT AFTER DRIVING 10-15 MINUTES. HAVE REPLACED ALL FOUR WHEEL SPEED SENSORS WITHOUT CORRECTING THE PROBLEM. HAVE NOTICED IN SEVERAL EMERGENCY BRAKING SITUATIONS, WHEN THE ABS LIGHT IS ILLUMINATED, THE ABS SYSTEM IS NOT FUNCTIONING AND THE WHEELS WILL STOP TURNING AND THE CAR WILL SKID TO A STOP. *TR

ABS LIGHT ON INTERMITTENTLY. RESEARCHED INTERNET AND FOUND THIS TO BE ALL-TOO COMMON. THIS IS USUALLY CAUSED BY A BAD SOLDER JOINT(S) IN THE ABS ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE LOCATED ON THE ABS MODULE (HYDRAULIC). WORST OF ALL, FORD GETS TO PROFIT FROM OUR MISERY, SINCE THEY CAN SELL YOU A NEW PART TO FIX THEIR OWN INFERIOR PART. *TR

LAST WEEK AS I WAS DRIVING AROUND TOWN AND MY INSTRUMENT PANEL STOPPED WORKING AND THE ABS LIGHTS WOULD NOT TURN OFF. THE NEXT MORNING I HAD TO TAKE MY SON TO ONE OF HIS ACTIVITIES AND THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WAS STILL NOT WORKING AND I NOTICED I HAD TO PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FLOOR. I WENT HOME AND NOTICED THAT MY CAR WAS LEAKING BRAKE FLUID. AFTER MUCH RESEARCH I FOUND MY VEHICLE HAD A RECALL. (09S09) I TOOK MY CAR IN THIS MORNING TO HAVE THIS RECALL FIXED. THIS DID NOT FIX MY INSTRUMENT PANEL. AFTER I GOT HOME I RESEARCHED WHAT THE PROBLEM MIGHT BE AND HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM FROM BRAKE FLUID LEAKING ON THE SOME OF THE WIRES. I CONTACTED FORD TO SEE IF THIS WOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL AND THEY EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THE RECALL ONLY COVERS THAT SPECIFIC PART. I AM VERY UPSET BECAUSE THE RECALL WILL ONLY COVER THE PART AND NOT THE DAMAGE IT HAS CAUSED. I WOULD LIKE TO FILE THIS COMPLAINT TO MAKE A RECORD OF THIS. I TRULY BELIEVE THAT FORD SHOULD FIX THE DAMAGE THAT THIS RECALLED PART HAS DONE TO MY VEHICLE. *TR

I AM VERY CONCERN ABOUT MY 2000 FORD WINDSTAR LX. I HAD TWO PROBLEMS WITH MY VAN IN WHICH A BRACKET CAME A LOOSE ON MY VAN. I LOST COMPLETE CONTROL OF MY VAN AND HAD TO PULL OVER AND CALL FOR HELP. THANK GOD I WAS ON THE CITY ROADS AND NOT THE HIGHWAY. THE LAST TIME I HAD AN INCIDENT, I WAS TOLD THAT THE REAR AXLE IS CRACKING AND MY SUBFRAME NEEDS TO BE INSPECTED. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS COULD BE EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS. I WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED THE REAR AXLE REPLACED. I SEE THAT THERE HAS BEEN RECALLS IN THE NORTHERN STATES BUT I RESIDE IN CHARLOTTE, NC. I FEEL THAT THIS NEEDS TO BE EXTENDED OUT TO THE SOUTHERN STATES. PLEASE CONSIDER IN ALLOWING US TO HAVE OUR AXLES INSPECTED FOR THE SAFETY OF OUR FAMILIES; IF THE VEHICLE NEEDS REPAIRS TO ALLOW FORD TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM AT NO COST TO US. *TR
