ABS LIGHT COMES ON RANDOMLY AND THE ABS DOES NOT WORK. *TR
HAD VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE RECALLS. RECALLS MET THE REQUIREMENTS TO REPLACE THE SUBFRAME ASSY; HOWEVER, IT WAS REPAIRED INSTEAD. CONTACTED FORD ABOUT MY CONCERN OVER HOW IT WAS BEING FIXED AND WAS TOLD THAT THE DEALER WAS GIVEN INFO. ON HOW TO DO THE REPAIR AND IF THERE WAS ANY PROBLEM AFTER IT WAS FIXED, I WOULD HAVE TO TAKE IT UP WITH THE DEALER BECAUSE IT WOULD BE A WARRANTY ISSUE WITH THEM, THAT FORD WOULD NOT HELP ME. NOW AFTER PICKING UP THE VEHICLE, THE A/C NO LONGER WORKS. - IT BLEW COLD AIR BEFORE THEY GOT IT. *KB

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER TO HAVE THE REAR AXLE REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V385000 (SUSPENSION:REAR:AXLE:NON-POWERED AXLE ASSEMBLY). UPON RECEIVING THE VEHICLE FROM THE DEALER, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD SHAKE VIOLENTLY WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH AND ABOVE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE WAS RUSTED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V385000 (SUSPENSION: REAR: AXLE: NON-POWERED AXLE ASSEMBLY) AND STATED THAT THE REPAIR WOULD NOT BE SUFFICIENT ENOUGH TO REPAIR HIS VEHICLE. THE DEALER OFFERED A 12 MONTH OR 12,000 MILEAGE WARRANTY HOWEVER, THE CONTACT WAS NOT SATISFIED THAT THE REMEDY WOULD KEEP HER SAFE WHILE DRIVING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING REPAIRS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 107,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
THE ABS LIGHT HAS BEEN GOING ON AND OFF FOR NO REASON. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND THEY SAID THE ONLY CODE THAT WAS AFFECTING THE LIGHT WAS THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE SPEED SENSOR WHICH WE REPLACED AND THE CODE WENT AWAY. THE CRUISE CONTROL DOSENT WORK AND THE LIGHT COMES ON AND BREAKING IS SOMETIMES MUCH MORE DIFFICULT WHEN SLICK/WET AND LIABLE TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME MY VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE FORD RECALL FROM 6/2012 RELATINGN TO ABS LIGHT AND DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE C1185
2000 FORD WINDSTAR: CRACKED REAR AXLE AND CORROSION AND RELATED FAILURES OF THE FRONT SUB-FRAME. WE ARE WRITING TO REPORT A REAR CRACKED AXLE AND FAILED, DAMAGED AND CORRODED FRONT SUB-FRAME ASSEMBLY OF OUR 2000 FORD VAN. FORD RECALLED: "CERTAIN 1998-2003 MODEL YEAR WINDSTAR VEHICLES OPERATED IN CORROSION STATES" FOR CRACKED OR BROKEN REAR AXLES (SAFETY RECALL 10513- SUPPLEMENT #10); AND FOR FAILED AND CORRODED "SUBFRAME FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM REAR ATTACHING FLANGES AND REAR BODY MOUNT ATTACHMENTS. OUR FORD VAN HAS BOTH THESE FAILURES AND IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE VEHICLE FAILED THE STATE SAFETY INSPECTION DUE TO ITS CRACKED AXLE. THE INSPECTOR ADVISED US THE VAN WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE KOONS FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAS INSPECTED THE VAN AND CONCLUDED THAT THE REAR AXLE AND FRONT SUB-FRAME HAVE FAILED BECAUSE OF CORROSION AND BOTH NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS "OPERATED" REGULARLY IN MARYLAND AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, AS WELL AS DRIVEN IN THE WINTER IN SNOW AND ICE CONDITIONS IN HIGH CORROSION STATES. WE WERE TOLD BY KOONS THAT AN EXTENSION OF THE RECALL WAS DENIED BY FORD BECAUSE WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATED IN HIGH CORROSION STATES, IT WAS NOT REGISTERED IN A HIGH CORROSION STATE. NORTHERN VIRGINIA WEATHER IS SIMILAR TO OFFICIAL ADJACENT HIGH CORROSION STATES. THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE GROUPS NORTHERN VIRGINIA WITH AREAS OF MARYLAND AND DC WITH REGARD TO SNOW FALL. "SODIUM CHLORIDE (SALT) IS VIRGINIA'S PRIMARY SNOW REMOVAL AND ICE CONTROL CHEMICAL". THE "REGISTRATION" REQUIREMENT IS ERRONEOUS. CONSIDERATION SHOULD BE GIVEN TO WHETHER A VEHICLE WAS OPERATED IN HIGH CORROSION AREAS, WHERE SALT IS USED . FORD'S LETTER OF 1/ 26/2011 TO NHTSA, STATES THAT " WE ARE TAKING THE ACTION TO CONFIRM OUR COMMITMENT TO SAFETY AND TO ADDRESS ANY POTENTIAL VEHICLE OWNER CONCERNS." TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABS WARNING LIGHT WAS CONTINUOUSLY ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC FOR A DIAGNOSTIC BUT THE MECHANIC COULD NOT READ THE CODES FROM THE TEST. THE CONTACT DID NOT TAKE THE VEHICLE TO DEALER AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 165,000.
AFTER EMPLOYING THE STANDARD ISSUED FORD WINDSTAR SCISSORS JACK AND RAISING THE LR SUBFRAME AT THE DESIGNATED JACK POINT TO CHANGE A FLAT TIRE, THE SUBFRAME STARTED TO SNAP AND BUCKLE. THE VAN THEN STARTED TO LOWER IN HEIGHT WITHOUT OPERATING THE JACK. THE VAN LOWERED IN HEIGHT APPROXIMATELY 1-2 IN. AFTER REMOVING THE JACK, THE ASSIGNED JACK POINT WAS BENT. HAD I BEEN TRAVELING, I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO EFFECTIVELY AND SAFELY EMPLOY(AND STILL CAN NOT SAFELY EMPLOY) THE ISSUED JACK AND REPAIR THE FLAT WITHOUT POSSIBLE HARM OR INJURY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE FORWARD FROM A COMPLETE STOP WHEN SHE HEARD A LOUD POP. SHE WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE FORWARD HOWEVER, SHE WAS ABLE TO ACCELERATE IN REVERSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE HE NOTICED THAT WATER WAS IN THE TRANSMISSION AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO HAVE THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. NO REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 107,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

ABS LIGHT CAME ON. SINCE THAT TIME IT COMES ON EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE AND NOW DAILY AFTER GOING FOR FEW MILES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE PARKED, THE VEHICLE EMITTED A BOOM SOUND AND CAUGHT ON FIRE. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE FIRE MARSHALL APPEARED ON THE SCENE AND STATED THAT THE FIRE WAS CAUSED BY THE ALTERNATOR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 150.000. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WAS 160,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE TIE ROD HAD BROKEN ON THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE TIE ROD WAS RUSTED THROUGH. THE CONTACT ASKED THE DEALER WHY THE TIE ROD WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 11V030000 (SUSPENSION: REAR AXLE). THE DEALER INDICATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER STATED THE TIE ROD WOULD NOT BE REPLACED EVEN THOUGH IT RUSTED THROUGH LIKE THE REAR AXLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000. I DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH OF A DANGER THIS IS BUT I THINK ITS IS A CRIME FOR A CAR DEALERSHIP TO INSTALL A NEW PART ON A RUSTED OUT OLD PART WITH OUT NOTIFYING THE CUSTOMER. THE CONTACT MERGED ONTO THE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. BOTH THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER DENIED ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 136,000.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS AWARE OF THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. NO REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 115,965. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,800.
I OWN A 2000 FORD WINDSTAR AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS HAVE QUIT WORKING FOR THE THIRD TIME. THIS ALWAYS SEEMS TO HAPPEN WHILE I AM DRIVING IN THE RAIN, WHICH IS NOT SAFE AT ALL, BUT YESTERDAY IT HAPPENED DURING A VERY HEAVY THUNDERSTORM WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT 70 MPH! IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN WIPER MOTOR FAILURE AND THE MOTOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE SEEN A RECALL IN THE PAST ON THE 2000 FORD WINDSTAR FOR THIS SAME COMPLAINT. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND THEY STATED THAT MY WINDSTAR WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL. AS MUCH OF A HASSLE AND AN EXPENSE IT IS TO HAVE THE WIPER MOTOR REPLACED, IT'S STILL NOT AS MUCH A HASSLE AS IT IS DANGEROUS TO BE DRIVING A VEHICLE THAT NOT ONLY DO THE WIPERS RANDOMLY QUIT WORKING WITHOUT ANY WARNING BUT THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL WILL KICK OFF ALL THE TIME AND FORD WON'T FIX OR DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE FAILURES THAT SO MANY OTHER WINDSTAR OWNERS CONTINUE TO HAVE. HOW MANY RECALLS ON SAFETY ISSUES DO YOU HAVE TO HAVE BEFORE THE ENTIRE VEHICLE IS RECALLED? THE FRAME, THE SUSPENSION, THE WIPERS, THE SPEED CONTROL SYSTEM AND THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM, ALL THE THINGS THAT A DRIVER TRULY NEEDS TO SAFELY TRANSPORT THEIR FAMILY AROUND HAVE BEEN RECALLED ON THE WINDSTAR. THIS DOESN'T EVEN TOUCH THE AMOUNT OF MONEY THAT HAS BEEN SPENT ON THE LEAN SYSTEM BANK 1 & 2 ERROR CODES AND THE ENGINE LIGHT STILL COMES ON FOR THE SAME CODE. I'M SURE THIS HAS A LOT TO DO THE TERRIBLE GAS MILEAGE THAT IS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO WHAT THE ORIGINAL STICKER QUOTED!. OR THE TORQUE CONVERTER ISSUES IN THE TRANSMISSION THAT HAD TO BE COMPLETELY REBUILT. A LOT OF THE WINDSTAR'S ISSUES STARTED WHILE IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND JUST CONTINUED TO GET WORSE. IF WERE UP TO ME I WOULD DEFINITELY CALL THE VEHICLE A LEMON. P.S. AFTER TALKING TO MY NEIGHBOR, HE ALSO HAS REPLACED HIS WINDSTAR'S WIPER MOTOR THREE TIMES. SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING TO MORE VEHICLES THAN JUST MINE. *TR
THE ABS LIGHT BEGAN COMING ON INTERMITTENTLY FOR NO KNOWN REASON; GRADUALLY IT HAS BEEN ON MORE. IN RECENT WEEKS, HAVE ALSO BEGUN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE SPEED CONTROL WORKING ONLY INTERMITTENTLY, AND LAST WEEK THE SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING INCORRECTLY; THE HIGHEST SPEED IT REGISTERS IS 28-29 MPH, EVEN THOUGH I KNOW I'M GOING FASTER. THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS NOW SUDDENLY WORK ONLY ON LOW OR, IF TURNED UP TO THE HIGHEST POSSIBLE SETTING, THEY GO HALF SPEED. TWO WEEKS AGO A BRAKE SET UP FOR NO KNOWN REASON, TO THE POINT THAT I SMELLED 'BURNING.' I STOPPED TO INVESTIGATE WHEN TRAFFIC ALLOWED AND COULD SEE NOTHING WRONG. I DROVE TO A HOSPITAL WHERE SON WAS WORKING AND HE INVESTIGATED AND FOUND THE FROZEN-UP BRAKE. HE WAS ABLE TO EVENTUALLY GET IT FREED UP. A VEHICLE THAT ONCE WAS A VERY DEPENDABLE WORKHORSE HAS SUDDENLY BECOME ERRATIC AND DOWNRIGHT SCARY. *TR
HAVE BEEN HEARING A NOISE FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE FOR AWHILE. HAD IT IN TO THE DEALER FOR TWO RECALL REPAIRS. THE NOISE CHANGED YESTERDAY AND WHEN THE REAR WAS INSPECTED AGAIN BEFORE LEAVING FOR WORK, I FOUND THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR COIL SPRING BROKEN. THIS ISSUED SHOULD HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED WHEN THE REAR AXLE RECALL WORK WAS COMPLETED. I DRIVE 50 HIGHWAY MILES EACH WAY TO AND FROM WORK AND THIS IS DANGEROUS. MISSED WORK TODAY AND DON'T KNOW WHEN THIS WILL BE ABLE TO BE FIXED. I SEE FORD HAS HAD MANY PROBLEMS WITH OTHER COIL SPRINGS. WHY HAVE THEY NOT ADDRESSED IT WITH ALL THE OTHER SUSPENSION PROBLEMS ON THESE 2000 FORD WINDSTARS? *KB

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER IN OCTOBER OF 2010 FOR A RECALL REPAIR ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V385000 (SUSPENSION:REAR:AXLE:NON-POWERED AXLE ASSEMBLY). FOURS MONTHS LATER, THE DRIVER'S SIDE CONTROL ARM FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RECALL REMEDY WAS INSUFFICIENT AND PLANNED TO NOTIFY THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 118,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
THE REAR AXLE TWISTED SO BAD THAT IT DESTROYED MY RIGHT REAR BRAKES. THE NEW DRUM WILL NOT GO ON IT IS SO BADLY TWISTED. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THERE IS RUST UNDER THE VEHICLE. UPDATED PORTABLE 08/30/11
VAN WOULD/RUNS FOR OVER AN HOUR, SHUT OFF FOR 15 MINUTES AND TRY TO RESTART, AND IT WON'T. AFTER MULTIPLES ISSUES WITH THIS, AND BEING ABLE TO TEMPORARILY REPAIR, SPEEDOMETER AND RPM METERS ARE NOW STICKING PERMANENTLY AND ARE NOT SHOWING SPEED OR RPM'S ACCURATELY AT ALL! MORE ISSUES TOO... *TR
THE ABS LIGHT COMES ON AT DIFFERENT TIMES, DIFFERENT SPEEDS, AND DIFFERENT WEATHER CONDITIONS, ALTHOUGH WET CONDITIONS AND BUMPY ROADS SEEM TO GUARANTEED IT COMES ON. *TR
ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT ON DASHBOARD REMAINS ON ALL THE TIME. REPLACED MASTER CYLINDER AND HAD ALL BRAKE SYSTEM CHECKED NUMEROUS TIMES BUT PROBLEM NOT RESOLVED. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND ALL MY INSTRUMENT PANEL NEEDLES (GAS, RPM, MILEAGE, TEMPERATURE) WERE ALL JUMPING AROUND. THIS WENT ON ALL THE WAY HOME. I PARKED THE CAR BUT THE RPM NEEDLE WAS STUCK AND I COULD NOT SHIFT THE CAR INTO PARK (P) AND COULD NOT TURN OFF THE CAR. I CALLED A LOCAL MECHANIC AND HE CAME OVER AND PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL (N) AND TURNED OFF THE CAR. THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE MECHANIC TO HAVE THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CHECKED. THE MECHANIC WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE RPM NEEDLE SO THAT I COULD SHIFT THE CAR BUT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CONTINUES TO SPORADICALLY GO FROM WORKING, TO NOT WORKING AT ALL, TO ALL THE NEEDLES JUMPING AROUND. THE MECHANIC WAS AWARE THAT I HAD THE TRANSMISSION DONE 3 TIMES SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR IN SEPT. 2003 AND TOLD ME THAT THE MALFUNCTIONING INSTRUMENT PANEL MAY BE CONTRIBUTING TO THE TRANSMISSION ISSUES. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V385000 (SUSPENSION) BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO ADVISED THAT THE SUBFRAME WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE BUT PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 175,000.
ABS LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON WHEN DRIVING VEHICLE
WHILE DRIVING MY 2000 FORD WINDSTAR IN A GROCERY STORE PARKING LOT, PREPARING TO GO ONTO A VERY BUSY ROAD, THE VAN MADE A LOUD BANG AND SLAMMED TO A STOP. I WAS ALARMED AS I HAD MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL AT THE TIME AND I WAS GOING ABOUT 10 MILES AN HOUR. THE JOLT FROM THE SUDDEN STOP WAS ENOUGH TO JERK MYSELF AND MY 3 CHILDREN FORWARD, IT WAS RATHER SHOCKING. CALLED REPAIRMAN 2 DAYS LATER ABOUT LOOSE STEERING AND FAULTY ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. CAR BEGAN TO VIBRATE WHEN BREAKING. TOOK CAR IN. SERVICE DEPT. SAID BRAKES BAD, CUSHINGS BAD, BALL JOINT BAD, THEN WHEN PLACING PADS ONE CALIPER STARTS LEAKING. ALL IN ONE RECALL EXPERIENCE. THIS IS HOW FORD MAKES ITS SERVICE MONEY, RECALL AND DESTRUCTION TO INCREASE SERVICE DEPARTMENT REVENUES. $600+ BRAKE JOB PAYS FOR THOSE RECALL AXEL KITS. MY REAL CONCERN IS WHAT ISN'T RUSTING ON THE FORD WINDSTAR? THE AXLES, ROTORS, CALIPERS ALL RUSTING.
