FORD WINDSTAR 01 RECALL ON REAR AXLE CRACKING
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A NOTIFICATION FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V608000 (SUSPENSION). WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS AT THE DEALER, THE TECHNICIAN FOUND THAT THE AXLE WAS CRACKED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE AXLE WOULD BE REPLACED UNDER THE RECALL, BUT THE DEALER WAS CHARGING FOR LABOR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 154,000.

AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V608000 (SUSPENSION), THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE REAR AXLE WAS CRACKED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V385000 (SUSPENSION). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED DUE TO THE TECHNICIAN STATING THAT THE ORIGINAL RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED PROPERLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS UNDERGOING AN INSPECTION, THE TECHNICIAN NOTICED THAT THE REAR AXLE WAS BENDING AND CAUSED THE REAR DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE TIRES TO WEAR UNEVENLY. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED DUE TO A PREVIOUS RECALL ON THE AXLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 318,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. THE DEALER (RUSS MILNE FORD, 24777 HALL RD, MACOMB, MI 48042, (877) 821-8648) INDICATED THAT A RECALL REMEDY WAS PROVIDED FOR THE REPLACEMENT BRACKETS BEFORE THE CONTACT OWNED THE VEHICLE. WITHIN A YEAR OF OWNING THE VEHICLE, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT A RECALL HAD ALREADY BEEN PROVIDED. ALTHOUGH THE CONTACT INFORMED THE MANUFACTURER THAT THE RECALL REMEDY FAILED TO CORRECT THE FAILURE, THEY STATED THAT THE CONTACT WOULD NEED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE ENGINE CRADLE WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED TO THE POINT OF FRACTURING, CAUSING SHAKING AND A STRONG VIBRATION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE AXLE AND THE FRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V608000 (SUSPENSION). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE REINFORCEMENT BRACKETS THAT WERE INSTALLED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V385000 (SUSPENSION), WERE PROPERLY INSTALLED; HOWEVER, THE REAR AXLE FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO BE REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL DUE TO THE FRACTURED AXLE. THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THAT THE REAR AXLE WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE AND WAS INFORMED BY THE MECHANIC THAT THE REAR AXLE WAS SEVERELY RUSTED AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT A RECALL NOTIFICATION WAS RECEIVED FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V608000 (SUSPENSION) AND THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE SAME FAILURE PREVIOUSLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE REVERSING AT APPROXIMATELY 1 MPH, THERE WAS AN EXPLOSION ON THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE NEAR THE REAR TIRE. IN ADDITION, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE AFTER THE TIRE WAS REPAIRED. THE TIRE HAD FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE REAR AXLE HAD FRACTURED AND THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE TOWED TO A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 179,000.
AFTER NOTICING WOBBLING OF MY BACK TIRE DRIVING MY DAUGHTER HOME FROM SCHOOL MY FATHER LOOKED AT ME VEHICLE TO NOT ONLY SEE THAT MY REAR AXEL HAD CRACKED (IN PROCESS OF INSEPCTION FOR RECALL REPAIR ON THAT) BUT ALSO NOTUCE THE THE FRONT SUB FRAME IS RUSTING SO MUCH THAT EVERYTHING ATTACHED TO IT IS STARTING TO DETACH.
THE SUBFRAME IN THE FRONT HAD CRACKED AFTER HAVING THE REPAIR/RECALL DONE BY FORD. THIS IS THE PASSENGER SIDE, RIGHT BY THE MOUNT TO THE BODY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE REAR DRIVER SIDE AXLE FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO CONFIRMED THAT THE AXLE FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V385000 (SUSPENSION); HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE UNKNOWN.
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, I HEARD A CRUNCHING SOUND IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE THEN BEGAN TO SWAY ON THE ROAD. I HAD TO SLOW MY SPEEDS AND PULL OVER AT A SAFE SPOT, WHICH WAS A PARKING LOT TO INSPECT WHAT THE ISSUE WAS. AFTER INSPECTION, I NOTED THE PASSENGER REAR TIRE WAS AT AN ANGLE WITH THE TOP OF THE TIRE INWARD TOUCHING THE FRAME. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE CLOSEST REPAIR SHOP WHERE I FOUND FROM THEIR INSPECTION THAT THE AXLE WAS BROKE AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DRIVEABLE. MY VEHICLE WAS PART OF THE FORD WINDSTAR AXLE RECALL, WHICH WAS SERVICED BY THE LOCAL FORD DEALER IN 2012. THIS VEHICLE HAD THE REINFORCEMENTS ADDED TO THE AXLE IN 2012. THE AXLE BROKE BETWEEN THE REINFORCED PLATES WELDED TO THE AXLE DURING THE RECALL CHECK. NOW AFTER TOWING THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER FOR INSPECTION, I FIND OUT THAT FORD WILL NOT STAND BEHIND THE ISSUE AND NOT REPAIR OR REPLACE THE AXLE DUE TO THE LENGTH OF TIME FROM THE RECALL. I FEEL LUCKY THAT I WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WHEN THE AXLE BROKE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH AND MAKING A LEFT TURN, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL SOUND. THE REAR AXLE FRACTURED AND THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V385000 (SUSPENSION); HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
9-10-2015 AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPT'S TO RESOLVE RECALL I WAS DRIVING TO WORK ON RITCHIE HWY AND THE REAR AXILE WHICH WAS ONE OF THE MANY RECALLS MADE ME LOOSE CONTROL OF VEHICLE AND ONCE I GAINED CONTROL CAR WAS DRIVIN TO NEAR SUPERMARKET PARKING LOT AND DRIVER'S SIDE AXILE BROKE AND CAR WAS DISABLED I LATER MADE IT TO WORK AND WAS TAKEN VIA AMBULANCE TO HOSPITAL ONSET PANIC ATTACK. CONTACTED CAR INS AND FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE SINCE 9-10-15 I WAS GIVEN CASE# CAS7858636 NOT UNTIL 9/2016 I CONTACTED FORD AFTER NUMEROUS CALLS WITHIN 1 YR PERIOD SPOKE TO CHRISTIE AND SHE EXPLAINED ME THAT CUSTOMER SERVICE FAILED TO CONTACT ME "SORRY" THEN SHE CONTACTED FORD BOB BELL SERVICE STATION AND I TOWED CAR AGAIN WITH MY MONEY. AND HAVE YET TO HEAR FROM THEM I ALMOST DIED IN THIS CAR AND NO ONE HAS MADE MY EXPERIENCE GOOD I KNOW HAVE ANXIETY AND NO CAR......NO RENTAL.
WHEN I STARTED THE VEHICLE TO GO SHOPPING EVERYTHING SEEMED FINE TILL I GOT ABOUT 25 MILES FROM MY HOUSE THAT IS WHEN I GOT STOPPED AT MY FIRST RED LIGHT THAT WHEN I WAS WAITING FOR THE LIGHT TO TURN GREEN THE ABS AND PARK BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON SO I PULLED OVER AT MY NEAREST CONVENIENCE SHUT THE VAN OFF CHECKED UNDER THE HOOD AND EVERYTHING LOOKED FINE, I GOT BACK INTO THE VAN AND THE LIGHTS WENT OUT, FINISHED MY SHOPPING THE ABOUT 4 MINUTES AFTER I STARTED THE VAN TO COME HOME WHILE WAITING IN TRAFFIC THE LIGHTS CAME BACK ON BUT THE BRAKES FELT FINE SO I DROVE IT HOME. I HAD A BRAKE SHOP CHECK IT OUT AND THEY DETERMINED THAT IT WAS THE ABS CONTROL MODULE (EBCM TO BE EXACT) AND THAT IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE IT JUST WOULDN'T HAVE ABS FUNCTIONING WHEN THE LIGHT COMES ON, CONTACTED FORD DEALERSHIP ABOUT THE ISSUE BUT WHEN THEY CHECKED IT THE LIGHT WAS OUT AND SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG AND BECAUSE IT WASN'T A RECALL NOTHING CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT AND IF I WANTED IT BROUGHT IN TO FIX IT IT WOULD COST ME $785 DOLLARS. SO I LOOKED ONLINE AND IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH THIS VEHICLE AND TO ME A SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY THE MANUFACTURER AND FIXED AS IT SEEMS THAT IT IS A BAD SOLDER-JOINT IN THE EBCM THAT IS CAUSING THIS ERROR AND COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE A FIRE FROM WHAT I READ IN ONLINE POSTS. I AM NOT LOOKING FOR A FREE FIX I JUST WANT FORD TO STEP UP AND FIX THE SAFETY ISSUES ON VEHICLES THEY MAKE
TAKE MY VEHICLE TO RECALL A YEAR LATER THE WIPER WENT CRAZY,APPARENTLY THEY DID THE RECALL .I CALLED THE FORD AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IF THE WIPER MOTOR WAS GOOD NOT CHANGED AND COVER
THIS VEHICLE HAS SHUT OFF ON ME WHILE DRIVING SEVERAL TIMES. DURING THE LATEST EVENT WHICH OCCURRED WHILE GOING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH AND THE MINIVAN JUST SHUTS OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THERE IS NOT A STALLING WARNING OR ANYTHING. ALL LIGHTS APPEAR ON THE DASH AND IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER THE VAN WHEN IT HAPPENS. IN ORDER TO GET THE VEHICLE TO RESTART YOU HAVE TO TURN IT OFF WITH THE KEY AND THEN START IT UP AGAIN. I HAVE INVESTIGATED THIS PROBLEM ONLINE AND THERE ARE MANY, MANY PEOPLE COMPLAINING OF THIS. I'M VERY SURPRISED TO SEE THAT A RECALL HAS NOT BE MADE. WITH MOST OF THE COMPLAINTS I'VE SEEN ONLINE MANY OF THE MECHANICS DO NOT SEEM TO KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. IT'S SCARY TO SEE THAT MANY OF US ARE COMPLAINING OF THE SAME THING. DURING SOME OF THE OTHER INCIDENTS IT ALSO SEEMED TO HAPPEN DURING LOWER SPEEDS SUCH AS 5 OR 10 MPH HOWEVER TWICE IT HAPPENED GOING HIGHER SPEEDS, ONCE AT 25 MPH AND THE OTHER AT 30 MPH. WHILE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE THE REAR AXLE BROKE; THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE DUE TO CORROSION OF THE REAR AXLE AND POSSIBLY BREAK. IN 2011 THIS VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN FOR RECALL REPAIRS ON THE REAR AXLE. THERE WAS APPROXIMATELY 99000 MILES ON IT. THE REPAIRS PERFORMED WERE AS FOLLOWS: THEY SPRAYED ANTI CORROSION ON THE AXLE AND PUT TWO SUPPORT BRACKETS ON THE AXLE. THE REAR AXLE CRACKED UNDER THE BRACKET. I BELIEVE THE BRACKET MAY HAVE TRAPPED MORE WATER AND SALT AND MADE IT WORSE. THE BRACKET DID NOT SUPPORT THE AXLE AT ALL. THE AXLE FELL TO THE GROUND AS IF THERE WAS NO BRACKET AT ALL. THE VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS 139000 MILES ON IT. I FEEL FORD SHOULD TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE COST OF THE REPAIR OF THE REAR AXLE. THIS IS MY DAUGHTERS FAMILY VAN. HER AND HER HUSBAND, ALONG WITH THEIR TWO YOUNG DAUGHTERS,DRIVE ALL OVER THE COUNTRY IN THIS VEHICLE. BY THE GRACE OF GOD NOBODY WAS HURT IN THIS VEHICLE. HOW CAN FORD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS?

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A SERVICE STATION AND THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE ABNORMAL NOISE WAS AN AXLE ISSUE. THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V195000 (SUSPENSION). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
THE SUBFRAME RUSTED & SWAY BAR ANCOR BRACKET BROKE LOSE. I WAS ABLE TO WEILD IT BACK ON. I NOTICED THE SUB FRAME HAD A RUST HOLE IN IT BETWEEN THE THE REPAIRS DONE BY FORD RECALL 11S16 AFEW YEARS AGO.I CALLED FORD MOTOR COMPANY ,WAS TOLD MY VAN WAS TO OLD & TO MANY MILES ON IT.I GOT RECALL FOR THE REAR AXEL [15S27] TOOK TO LOCAL DEALER AND ASKED ABOUT FRONT SUBFRAME. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS UP TO FORD .

IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO REVERSE AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE AXLE FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS AWARE OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V193000 (POWER TRAIN ) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,361.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THERE WAS A WHISTLING SOUND COMING FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE FAILURE RECURRED EACH TIME THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH OVER A MAN HOLE COVER, THE VEHICLE JERKED TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS WHEN THE VEHICLE DROVE OVER ANY TYPE OF BUMPS, CRACKS, AND MAN HOLE COVERS ON THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR AXLE FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V385000 (SUSPENSION). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 182,000. BETWEEN MY MARCH 2015 OIL CHANGE AND MY JULY 30 2015 OIL CHANGE THE CONTROL ARMS BROKE AND COMPLETELY RUINED A TIRE ALL THE WAY AROUND THE TIRE. CHEWED IT UP VERY BADLY PUTTING ME AT RISK FOR AN ACCIDENT FROM A BLOW OUT OR LOSS OF CONTROL. I DON'T KNOW EXACTLY WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURRED. THE PROBLEM WAS FOUND BY THE SHOP AT THE OIL CHANGE. I AM FINDING ONLINE WHERE THERE IS MUCH CONCERN ABOUT THE CONTROL ARMS ON THESE VEHICLES. BOTH FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARMS WERE REPLACED BY THE SHOP. THE BROUGHT ONE OF THE TIRES INTO THE LOBBY FOR ME TO SEE AND IT WAS ABSOLUTELY CHEWED UP ALL THE WAY AROUND THE TIRE. IT IS A WONDER I DID NOT HAVE AN ACCIDENT.

THE CONTACT MANEUVERED TO THE EMERGENCY LANE AND SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR AXLE WAS CRACKED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V385000 (SUSPENSION) THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.

(1) ODI REQUEST FOR INFORMATION REGARDING ENGINEERING ANALYSIS EA10-007 SUB FRAME AND (2) ISSUES OF COMPLIANCE WITH SAFETY RECALL PROCEDURES AND WHAT WE BELIEVE TO BE FRAUDULENT AND ILLEGAL ACTIONS. SPACE IS INADEQUATE BUT WILL TRY TO SUMMARIZE. VEHICLE SUBFRAME FAILED AT BOTH PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE REAR MOUNTS AND THEREBY CAUSED SEPARATION OF THE STEERING COMPONENTS AND COMPLETE LOSS OF STEERING, LOSS OF BRAKES, AND LOSS OF TRANSMISSION CONTROL. THE OWNER USED THE ONLY MEANS AVAILABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE BY TURNING OFF THE IGNITION KEY AND 'RIDING IT OUT.' SUBFRAME COMPONENTS AND THE ENGINE/TRANSMISSION HAD BEEN IN CONTACT WITH PAVEMENT. LARGE PORTIONS OF THE SUBFRAME APPEAR TO BE MISSING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE EXHAUST SYSTEM WAS SEVERED. THE TRANSMISSION LINKAGE PULLED AWAY AND AS STATED THE STEERING COMPONENTS SEPARATED. WHAT IS BELIEVED TO BE THE AIR BAG CABLE BECAME WRAPPED AROUND THE STEERING COMPONENTS. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP WHICH REFUSES TO INSPECT, DISCLOSE, PHOTOGRAPH, OR ALLOW TO BE PHOTOGRAPHED THE MASSIVE DAMAGE WHILE DECLARING THE VEHICLE "REPAIRABLE" AND THE "REPAIRS HAVE TO BE DONE." AT ISSUE ARE DECLARATIONS THAT UNDER THE RECALL THAT "RESPONSIBILITY" RESTS WITH THE OWNER AND A "RIGHT TO DENY COVERAGE." A DEMAND THAT REPAIRS BE SCHEDULED OR THE VEHICLE BE TOWED FROM THE CAR LOT WITH A DEMAND THAT A DOCUMENT BE SIGNED WHICH AMOUNTS TO A RELEASE AND COMPLETE MISREPRESENTATION OF THE FACTS. THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN TOLD THAT WE WILL LEND NO TRUTH OR VALIDITY TO THEIR FORCEFUL AND MANIPULATIVE DEMANDS, NOR WILL WE SIGN ANY DOCUMENT. IT IS OUR INTENT TO DESTROY THE VEHICLE. WE HAVE INCURRED MULTIPLE OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES. IN ESSENCE FRAUD AND ILLEGAL ACTS, UNDER THE COLOR OF FEDERAL LAW ARE ALLEGED. WE DESIRE TO SUBMIT A WRITTEN STATEMENT AND REQUEST FOR INVESTIGATION.

I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD ABOUT 35 MPH WHEN MY GAUGES STARTED TO BOUNCE BACK AND FORTH LIKE CRAZY UNTIL 1 OF THEM BROKE OFF. NEXT ERRAND RUN OF THE DAY, GOT A COUPLE OF MILES AWAY FROM THE HOUSE, WHEN THE LIGHTS CAME BACK ON. WENT INTO STORE, CAME BACK OUT, STARTED THE VEHICLE, AND LIGHTS STAYED OFF.
THE REAR AXLE COLLAPSES WHILE DRIVING ON THE FDR DRIVE, NY CITY, THE VAN WAS TOWED TO A SHOP IN BROOKLYN. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE SUBFRAME OF THE REAR AXLE HAS TO REPLACED.THERE WAS A RECALL DONE ON THE VEHICLE IN 2011 FOR THE REAR AXLE BUT AT THE TIME I DO NOT HAVE A PROBLEM. WHAT EVER FIXED THAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE DONE DID NOT WORK CAUSED THE AXLE SUBFRAME BROKE.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 210,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
THE REAR AXLE BROKE WHEN OUR DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AT NIGHT. WHEN SHE GOT HOME SHE TOLD US THAT THE VAN WAS NOT HANDLING WELL AT ALL. IT TURNS OUT THE REAR AXLE HAD CRACKED WHICH CAUSED THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR WHEEL TO PUSH UP INTO THE WHEEL HOUSING AND START RUBBING AGAINST THE WHEEL WELL. LUCKILY THIS HAPPENED NEAR OUR HOME AND SHE DIDN'T HAVE MUCH FURTHER TO GO AS IT BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO HANDLE. ALSO LUCKY THE SPEED WAS ONLY ABOUT 30 MPH, BECAUSE I'M NOT SURE IT WOULD HAVE MADE IT SAFELY HOME IF IT HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING AT A HIGHER SPEED. OUR VAN WAS PART OF A RECALL THAT WAS DONE IN 2011 WHERE THEY INSTALLED BRACKETS/CLAMPS INSTEAD OF REPLACING THE REAR AXLE. THE BREAK HAS OCCURRED RIGHT UNDER THE CLAMPING BRACKET. IT ALSO APPEARS TO BE CRACKED ON THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE AS THE TIRE IS TILTING INTO THE WHEEL WELL ON THAT SIDE ALSO. IT APPEARS FORD HAS LEFT MANY WINDSTAR DRIVERS IN A POTENTIAL VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION.
LAST NIGHT AT APPROXIMATELY 8:30 PM, A PLEASANT EVENING AT ABOUT 65 DEGREES AND A LIGHT RAIN; FOR NO REASON WHATSOEVER THE REAR QUARTER (AUTOMATED) WINDOW EXPLODED ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. THE GLASS WAS ON THE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLES BACK AND MIDDLE SEATS AS WELL AS IN THE DRIVEWAY. BECAUSE I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE, I THINK THIS QUALIFIES AS A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE OF THE SHARDS OF GLASS FLYING EVERYWHERE; IF THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN ANYBODY IN THE VAN THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED THEM SERIOUS INJURY. FORD MOTOR COMPANY NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS ISSUE AND BACK IT UP WITH ACTION BY FINDING AND FIXING THE PROBLEM; OR AT THE VERY LEAST COVER THE COST OF THE DAMAGES. *TR

THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WERE NOT REQUIRED BY THE MANUFACTURER TO REINSTALL REINFORCEMENT BRACKETS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND SUGGESTED REPLACING THE SAME OEM REAR AXLES. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE. *TT CONSUMER STATED I FEEL THE REAR AXLES FAIL EVEN WITH THE RECALL BRACKETS ON, SO I FEEL FORD SHOULD PAY FOR THE BILL. THE TIRES WENT BAD AND OUT WHEN THIS HAPPENED. THE RECALL DID NOT WORK AND PUT NEW RECALL PARTS ON NEW AXLES. UPDATED 10/16/18*JB
WHILE DRIVING THE VAN, THE REAR AXLE BROKE AFTER GOING OVER A MINOR DIP IN THE ROAD FROM FROST HEAVING. THE SAFETY RECALL HAD BEEN COMPLETED BY THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP. ALTHOUGH THE REINFORCEMENTS WERE APPLIED, AND AXLE INSPECTION COMPLETED BY FORD CERTIFIED MECHANICS THE AXLE BROKE WHERE THE REINFORCEMENTS WERE INSTALLED. FORDS ENGINEERED FIX HAS APPARENTLY ONLY BOUGHT TIME FOR THE NEXT SET OF AXLE PROBLEMS. I ATTEMPTED TO HAVE THE COSTS INCURRED FOR THE AXLE REPLACEMENT REIMBURSED TO NO AVAIL. THIS IS A CONCERN BECAUSE THERE ARE OTHER WINDSTAR OWNERS WHO UNKNOWINGLY DRIVING VEHICLES THAT THEY BELIEVE ARE SAFE ,BECAUSE THIS INADEQUATE RECALL HAS BEEN COMPLETED. *TR
