THE ABS LIGHT AND THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS COME ON SOMETIMES AND STAY ON A LONG TIME. WHEN THE ABS LIGHT IS ON THE ABS BRAKES DO NOT WORK; IT REVERTS BACK TO REGULAR BRAKES. I AM TRYING TO SELL THE CAR BUT PROSPECTS DO NOT BUY BECAUSE THE LIGHT COMES ON UN-EXPECTEDLY. *TR
PURCHASED VEHICLE JANUARY 2012, PASSENGER FRONT SEAT BELT LATCH WAS BROKEN, I PURCHASED A NEW ONE FROM DEALER FOR $170.48. MARCH 2012, IT BROKE AGAIN WITH SAME PROBLEM. IT DOES NOT LATCH, OR WHEN IT DOES LATCH, IT OPENS ON ITS OWN WITH OR WITHOUT ANYONE IN THE SEAT. DEALER REFUSES TO WARRANTY THE 3 MONTH OLD LATCH, BUT OFFERED TO ORDER ME ANOTHER FOR $170.48 +LABOR WITHOUT HAVING TO PAY FOR IT FIRST. AFTERMARKET DEALERS SAY ITS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH 2001/2002 WINDSTAR'S AND 2001'S HAD A RECALL ON IT. 27 JUNK YARDS BETWEEN BUFFALO, NY,CLEVELAND, OHIO & PITTSBURG PA ALL HAVE DEFECTIVE SEAT BELT LATCHES IN THEIR 01/02 VANS. SO MY OPTION IS TO EITHER NOT USE THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT OR PAY $233.43 EVERY 3 MONTHS TO HAVE A NEW LATCH ASSEMBLY INSTALLED. I HAVE PAPERWORK FROM CHAMPION FORD, CONFIRMING THAT THE SEAT BELT IS BROKEN DATED 4/6/2013. BUT THE FEMALE SERVICE WRITER CONVENIENTLY LOST MY PAPER WORK FOR THE ORIGINAL SEAT BELT LATCH FROM 2012. ALSO SEARCHING NET BRINGS UP OVER 23,000 REPORTED ISSUES WITH 2002 WINDSTAR SEAT BELTS. WHY HAS THERE BEEN NO RECALL ON THE 2002 WINDSTAR AS THERE WAS WITH THE 2001. ITS NOT FAIR THAT I SHOULD HAVE TO PAY $233.43 EVERY 3 MONTHS TO THE FORD DEALER TO HAVE A WORKING SEAT BELT. CLEARLY THIS IS A SAFETY AND MANUFACTURING DEFECT.. ITS UNREASONABLE TO MAKE ME DECIDE IF I FEEL SAFER HUNCHED OVER IN MY ELECTRIC WHEELCHAIR IN THE REAR OF MY VAN ONLY BELTED INTO THE WHEELCHAIRS SAFETY BELT HAVING TO HOPE THAT IT DOESN'T FLIP OVER SQUISH ME DURING AN ACCIDENT OR IF I WOULD RATHER BE EJECTED THRU THE FRONT WINDSHIELD!! HOW CAN I BE ASKED TO PUT MY LIFE AT RISK EVERY TIME I GET INTO THE VAN!! I ALWAYS THOUGHT THAT SEAT BELTS WERE THE MOST IMPORTANT SAFETY FEATURE IN A VEHICLE. HOW CAN THIS BE ALLOWED TO CONTINUE? PURCHASED VEHICLE IN 2011 USED, SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASE THE FOLLOWING ISSUES BEGAN TO OCCUR, THE LAST ISSUE OF THE OVERDRIVE LIGHT BLINKING CONTINUOUSLY OCCURRED ON 12-04-2012. VEHICLE SITED ABOVE EXHIBITS CONSTANT ABS LIGHTED YELLOW, BRAKE LIGHT - CONSTANT RED, ODOMETER - MILEAGE REPLACED WITH DASHES, SPEEDOMETER - NOT FUNCTIONING, CRUISE CONTROL - NOT FUNCTIONING, OVER DRIVE ON/OFF INDICATOR - CONTINUOUS BLINKING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR AXLE CRACKED WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50-55 MPH WHEN A LOUD NOISE WAS HEARD FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IT SOUNDED AS IF SOMETHING HAD FALLEN FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY ADVISED HER THAT THE SPARK PLUGS WERE INVERTED IN THE ENGINE AND THE HEAD GASKET NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED A 5 PERCENT DISCOUNT TO THE CONTACT IF THE VEHICLE WERE TO BE REPAIRED AT AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 120,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
AFTER PURCHASING FROM A DEALER IN OCT OF 2010 THE ABS LIGHT, CHECK TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT, BRAKE LIGHT AND AIR BAG LIGHT STARTED COMING ON INTERMITTENTLY. HAD THE VEHICLE SERVICED IN MI FOR THE AXLE RECALL. WAS WITHOUT THE VEHICLE AND HAD LOANER CAR FOR 2 MONTHS. AFTER GETTING VEHICLE BACK THE LIGHTS WERE ON MORE CONSISTENTLY THE DEALERSHIP NOTED THIS BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY REASON FOUND FOR THIS. BY SUMMER OF 2011 THESE LIGHTS WERE STAYING ON ALMOST CONSTANTLY AND THIS CONTINUED FOR A YEAR, AFTER INVESTIGATING THIS ISSUE ONLINE AND SEEING THAT OTHER OWNERS HAVE INVESTED HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TRYING TO GET THE LIGHTS TO GO OFF AND STAY OFF ONLY TO HAVE THEM KEEP COMING BACK ON WE HAVE DECIDED TO FILE A COMPLAINT AS THIS ISSUE IS NOT A SIMPLE FIX AND OBVIOUSLY IS HAPPENING IN HUNDREDS OF VEHICLES. OUR PROBLEM HAS PROGRESSED TO WHERE THE SPEEDOMETER AND ODOMETER GO WILDLY UP AND DOWN WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND WE ARE NEVER SURE OF OUR SPEED. THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH GO OUT AND THE POWER TO DOOR LOCKS, RADIO AND A/C POWER IS LOST AS WELL AS THE BLINKERS FOR LANE CHANGES. THIS VEHICLE IS VERY UNSAFE BUT WE NEED IT AS WE HAVE 5 CHILDREN AND CAN NOT AFFORD TO BUY A NEW ONE. THE POWER WINDOW ON PASSENGER SIDE AS WELL AS THE POWER SLIDING DOORS DO NOT WORK. WHEN THIS ISSUE HAPPENS IF THEIR HAPPENED TO BE AN ELECTRICAL FIRE BECAUSE OF IT, WE WOULD BE UNABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE DOORS ARE LOCKED AND THE KNOBS ON THE INTERIOR OF THIS MODEL ARE FLUSH INTO THE DOOR WHEN THE VEHICLE IS LOCKED AND CAN NOT BE MANUALLY PULLED UP. WITH CHILDREN, THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. PLEASE PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE WITH THE FORD WINDSTAR. I HAVE ALSO CONTACTED FOR WITH MY COMPLAINT AND THEY ONLY WOULD SAY THERE ARE NO RECALLS ON THIS ISSUE RIGHT NOW BUT TO SAVE MY RECEIPTS SHOULD I TRY TO GET IT FIXED IN CASE ONE IS ISSUED IN THE FUTURE. *TR
THE ABS/BRAKE/TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS BEGAN TO COME ON EVERY TIME CAR WAS DRIVEN AND STAY ON THE ENTIRE TIME. BRAKES BEGAN TO SQUEAL AND THEN THEY FAILED COMPLETELY. BRAKES LOCKED WHEN APPLIED - HAD TO RELEASE AND APPLY AGAIN TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP. WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED THE CAR WOULD KEEP MOVING. WE TOOK THE CAR TO A MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD IT WAS THE ABS SYSTEM. HE REPLACED THE ABS MODULE - - WITHIN ONE WEEK THE BRAKES FAILED AGAIN. WE TOOK THE CAR TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP THIS TIME AND WAS TOLD THE ABS MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. WE TOLD THEM THIS HAD JUST BEEN DONE AND WE THOUGHT IT COULD BE THE MASTER CYLINDER BUT THEY SAID NO IT WAS THE ABS MODULE. PAID AGAIN TO REPLACE THIS AND WITHIN ONE DAY OF GETTING THE CAR BACK THE BRAKES FAILED AGAIN. WE TOOK IT BACK AND WERE TOLD IT WAS THE MASTER CYLINDER. WE PAID AGAIN TO HAVE THIS FIXED AND JUST GOT THE CAR BACK YESTERDAY - - THE BRAKES FAILED AGAIN TODAY. FROM RESEARCH ONLINE IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM AND FORD SHOULD KNOW THIS AND BE DOING SOMETHING ABOUT IT. WE HAVE ALMOST WRECKED SEVERAL TIMES BUT THE DEALERSHIP KEEPS TELLING US THAT THEY CANNOT FIND ANYTHING ELSE WRONG EVEN THOUGH THE BRAKES CONTINUE TO FAIL. *TR
THE INCIDENT OCCURRED JUST AFTER 9:00 PM ON SUNDAY EVENING (12/4/11) WHEN I WAS BACKING THIS CAR TO A ROAD IN THE PARKING LOT OF PRINCETON ALLIANCE CHURCH, PLAINSBORO, NEW JERSEY. I TURNED ON THE ENGINEER AND PUT THE SHIFT GEAR ON REVERSE AND IMMEDIATELY HEARD BIG NOISES OF GRINDING/SNAPPING SOUNDS. I COULD NOT CONTROL THE CAR AND FELT THAT I HIT A CAR BEHIND ME. I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND REALIZED THAT I DID NOT HIT THE CAR BEHIND ME. A GENTLEMEN IN THE SAME PARKING LOT CAME TO ME AND SAID FROM HIS EXPERIENCE THIS WAS A TRANSMISSION FAILURE. HE AND OUR FAMILY MEMBERS PUSHED THE CAR BACK TO THE PARKING POSITION AND RELIEVED THE TRAFFIC AFTER A HOLIDAY CONCERT. I AM SCARED TO THINK IF THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED ON A HIGHWAY. I ALSO FELT LUCKY THAT THIS HAPPENED IN A PARKING LOT. *TR
AFTER DRIVING SOME DISTANCE, USUALLY 5-20 MILES OR AFTER THE VAN HAS WARMED UP, THE ABS AND BRAKE DASHBOARD LIGHTS AND COME ON. THE SPEED AT WHICH THIS OCCURS IS RANDOM. THE ABS IS INDEED INCAPACITATED, THUS SUDDENLY INCREASING THE BRAKING DISTANCE. THE TRIP COMPUTER ALSO BEEPS, AND TELLS ME THAT THE TRACTION CONTROL HAS BEEN DISABLED. *TR
ABS AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS COME ON.CAN GO FOR DAYS WITHOUT DOING SO AND THEN APPEAR AGAIN: WHEN WARNING LIGHTS COME ON ABS NOT WORKING ALTHOUGH BRAKES FUNCTION. ON CHECKING INTERNET THIS APPEARS TO BE A REGULAR PROBLEM SINCE WINDSTAR WAS INTRODUCED. I DO NOT KNOW WHEN THIS APPEARED ON MY VEHICLE AS WAS ALREADY OCCURRING WHEN I PURCHASED IT 11/22/2011. *TR
AS I PUT THE HEAT, DEFROSTER, OR AIR CONDITIONING ON, IT JERKS ALOT AND WHEN I STOP AT A RED LIGHT OR STOP SIGN IT STALLS. I HAVE TO PUT MY 4 WAYS ON, SHUT THE VAN OFF, AND RESTART IT WITHOUT THE HEAT OR AIR ON. I FEEL THIS IS A VERY DRASTIC SAFETY ISSUE DUE TO THE FACT IF I'M DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AND I STOP AT A RED LIGHT AND IT STALLS, IF THERE IS TRAFFIC BEHIND ME COMING RAPIDLY I CAN BE REAR ENDED AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME IN THE NOVEMBER INCIDENT. LUCKILY THE LIGHT WAS STILL RED. *JS
THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING. THEY STAY ON UNTIL THE ENGINE IS SHUT OFF. *TR
LEAKING BRAKE FLUID WITH BRAKE AND ABS LIGHT ON. CAUSES LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID AND IS A FIRE HAZARD. *TR
MY WINDSTAR WENT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP A FEW MONTHS AGO FOR THE SUBFRAME RECALL AND REAR AXLE RECALL. IT WAS SAID TO BE IN GREAT CONDITION AND FITTED WITH THE REPAIR KITS. SUBSEQUENTLY, MY HUSBAND WENT UNDER THE CAR FOR UNRELATED REASONS AND SAW THE SUBFRAME BRACKET WAS NOT HOLDING ANYTHING BECAUSE THE PASSENGERS SIDE SUBFRAME WAS RUSTED AWAY. WHEN HE TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP THE MECHANIC STATED THAT IT SHOULD BE LEFT WITH HIM BECAUSE IT WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. MY HUSBAND REQUESTED THEY REMOVE THE BACK AXEL BRACKET WHICH THEY DID ONLY TO REVEAL A CRACK IN THE AXEL. WE WERE TOLD BY SEVERAL EMPLOYEES THAT IT SHOULD BE REPLACED. HOWEVER THE DEALERSHIP CONTACTED FORD DI DEPT WHO REJECTED THE CLAIM BASED ON THE FACT THAT IT WAS POOR WORKMANSHIP OF THE DEALERSHIP AND THE DEALERSHIP BLAMES FORD. NEEDLESS TO SAY THEY GAVE ME BACK MY CAR WITH A RUSTED SUBFRAME AND CRACKED AXEL STATING THAT IT WAS IN FACT REPAIRED TO FORDS STANDARD. MY HUSBAND HAS PICTURES OF BOTH THE SUBFRAME W KIT AND AXEL. IT IS DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND HOW FORD CAN DEEM IT SAFE TO DRIVE? IN ADDITION TO THE ORIGINAL RECALL, I BELIEVE FORD IS COVERING UP THE DEFECT AND ATTEMPTING TO GET AWAY WITH PUTTING RECALL "KITS" ON CARS THAT MAY BE UNSAFE. I WOULD LIKE TO BE SURE MY CAR IS INFACT SAFE. *TR
THE VEHICLE WAS CHECKED BY FORD DEALER IN ALAMOGORDO, NM 88310 DUE TO A RECALL FOR "REAR AXLE CRACKS, SUBFRAME CORROSION" AND "BRAKE, ABS BRAKE, CRUISE CONTROL, AND SPEEDOMETER/ODOMETER ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS" ON AUG/16/2011. THEY SAD THERE IS NO PROBLEM / OR THEY FIXED IT. AFTER THAT DATE, THE BRAKE/ABS BRAKE ILLUMINATED A COUPLE OF TIMES, BUT WENT OF AFTER THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF/ON AGAIN. ALSO THE CRUISECONTROL STOPPED WORKING SINCE AND ISN'T CURRENTLY NOT WORKING. I FOUND THAT THE "BRAKE PRESSURE DIFFERENTIAL DEACTIVATION SWITCH (SCDS) (2B264) LOCATED UNDER THE MASTER CYLINDER (BEHIND THE AIR FILTER) IS LEAKING!!!. IT IS COMPLETELY WET AND THE FLUID IS DROPPING DOWN SLOWLY. PICTURES ARE AVAILABLE, TAKEN TODAY 04/04/2012. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE BRAKE, ABS, AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS ALL ILLUMINATED. THE ONLY WAY THE LIGHTS STOPPED ILLUMINATING WAS IF HE HAD THE UNDER CARRIAGE WASHED. EVENTUALLY, THE LIGHTS ALL ILLUMINATED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PERSONAL MECHANIC FOR A DIAGNOSIS, HOWEVER THE FAILURES CONTINUED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
THE SPEED CONTROL WOULD NOT SHUT OFF WITH (OFF BUTTON) LOCATED ON STEERING WHEEL, ONLY WITH BRAKE PEDAL. THE BRAKES SEEMED NOT TO STOP THE VEHICLE AS QUICKLY AS OTHER TIMES., AND ON CAME THE LIGHTS (ABS & BRAKE LIGHT) NOW THE LIGHTS (BRAKE AND ABS COME ON EVERYTIME I DRIVE THE VEHICLE SHORTLY AFTER STARTING DOWN THE ROAD. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH THERE WAS A LOUD RUBBING NOISE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. AFTER INSPECTING THE TIRE HE NOTICED THE COIL SPRING WAS RUBBING AND WEARING DOWN THE TIRES. THE TIRE WAS NOT PUNCTURED AND HE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE HOME WITHOUT AN INCIDENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND A CLAIM WAS FILED; YET, THEY OFFERED NO OTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70302.
SINCE I PURCHASED THIS VAN FROM STEUBEN/YATES COUNTY PRO-ACTION IN NYS WHEELS TO WORK PROGRAM, I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS WITH MY FORD WINDSTAR. 1ST PROBLEM WAS WITH EMISSION CODE STATING IT NEEDED A MAP CENSOR; 2ND ISSUE WAS THE SWAY BAR BROKE (WAS REPAIRED UNDER RECALL AT FORD DEALERSHIP IN ELMIRA, NY JAN 2012). AFTER NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS TO THE CAR DEALER SHIP I PURCHASED THE WINDSTAR FROM THE GARAGE, THEIR MECHANIC REPLACED O-RINGS IN THE ENGINE TO FIX THE MAP CENSOR IN JAN 2012 AS WELL. IN FEBRUARY 2014 I INVESTED A LITTLE OVER 1,800.00 IN REPAIRS TO MY MECHANIC FOR; TUNE UP, STRUTS AND SHOCKS, BRAKES ALL AROUND, WHEEL BUSHINGS, AND A WHEEL ALIGNMENT. I KEEP THE VAN WELL MAINTAINED WITH OIL CHANGES AND LATELY MY RADIATOR IS LOOSING FLUID. I ALWAYS STOP IN WHERE I MAINTAIN IT AND THE BUSINESS IS ALWAYS TOPPING OFF THE RADIATOR FLUID AND WHEN SCHEDULED OIL CHANGES ARE DUE, I AM ALWAYS A QUART LOW ON OIL. MOST RECENT INCIDENT: I WILL BE DRIVING ALONG AND THE VAN TURNS OFF AND TURNS BACK ON WHILE DRIVING. AT NIGHT WHEN THIS WOULD HAPPEN I HAVE NO HEADLIGHTS FOR A BRIEF MOMENT BUT THAT IS STILL AN UNSAFE VAN. ALSO, I GET AN ELECTRIC SHOCKED EVERY TIME I TOUCH THE VAN AS I GET IN TO GO SOMEWHERE. ****THIS IS MY FIRST AND LAST FORD!!**** *TR
THE DASH DISPLAY YELLOW ABS AND RED BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON RANDOMLY. MY MECHANIC TELLS ME THAT WHEN THE ABS LIGHT COMES ON, THE ABS SYSTEM IS NONFUNCTIONAL, MEANING THE VAN WOULD NOT HAVE ABS CAPABILITY IN AN EMERGENCY DURING THESE RANDOM EVENTS THAT LAST FOR BOTH SHORT AND LONG DURATIONS. THE MECHANIC TELLS ME THAT THE FIX FOR THE PROBLEM REQUIRES REPLACEMENT OF THE ABS ECM, WHICH IS HARD TO GET AT AND WOULD COST CLOSE TO $1000. MY SEARCH OF THE PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET SHOWS THAT MANY OTHER OWNERS OF THIS MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AND THAT THIS PROBLEM IS WIDESPREAD, WHICH LIKELY MEANS IT IS A DEFECT IN THE ENGINEERING OF THESE VEHICLES AND THAT MANY LIVES ARE AT STAKE SINCE THE ABS COULD GO OUT AT ANY GIVEN MOMENT, EVEN DURING EMERGENCY BRAKING WHICH WOULD CAUSE LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLES. FORD SHOULD FIX THIS PROBLEM SINCE IT IS A WIDESPREAD DEFECT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V385000 (SUSPENSION) AND RECEIVED THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING AND THE LEFT REAR AXLE FRACTURED AND BROKE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR FURTHER INSPECTION AND TO BE REPAIRED. THE CONTACT HAD BEEN WAITING FOR LONGER THAN TWO WEEKS FOR THE DEALER TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT AND REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TO BE REPAIRED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
2002 FORD WNDSTAR. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HARNESS CONNECTED TO THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE COMPUTER MELTED AND CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE ABS WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 115,000.
THE ABS WARNING LIGHT AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ON. RESETS AFTER CAR COOLS DOWN THEN LIGHTS WILL ILLUMINATE AFTER DRIVING AND TEMPERATURE INCREASES. WHEN LIGHTS ARE ILLUMINATED BRAKING DISTANCE SUDDENLY INCREASES AND BRAKE PEDAL FEELS SOFT. HAD THE BRAKE SYSTEM SERVICED AND FLUSHED WITH NEW BRAKE FLUID AND IT DID NOT SOLVE THE ISSUE OF THE ABS AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS COMING ON, OR THE INCREASED BRAKING DISTANCE. ALL THE BRAKE PADS HAVE BEEN CHECKED AND ARE IN SERVICEABLE CONDITION. FRONT CALIPERS AND REAR BRAKE DRUM CLYNDERS HAVE BEEN CHECKED AND ALL ARE WORKING CORRECTLY. WHEEL SPEED SENORS HAVE BEEN CLEANED AND CHECKED WITH A METER AND ALL FOUR ARE WORKING CORRECTLY. THE RECALLS FOR THE BRAKE PRESSURE DIFFERENTIAL DEACTIVATION SWITCH WAS DONE IN 2010 AND THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF FLUID LEAKING AT THIS TIME. SUSPECT PROBLEM WITH ABS ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE. *TT
ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON PERIODICALLY. CAN'T BE RESET AND HAVE ASKED MECHANIC WHAT ISSUE IS. WAS TOLD IT'S AN ABS MODULE THAT COSTS AT LEAST $700 TO REPLACE. HAVE LOOKED ONLINE FOR HELP ON THIS AND IT LOOKS LIKE SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE. IS FORD LOOKING TO PUT A RECALL OUT FOR THIS? LIVING IN THE MIDWEST WEATHER, HAVING MY ABS WORKING WOULD BE A NICE ADDITION WHEN DRIVING IN THE FOUR SEASONS OF WEATHER. *TR
THE WINDSTAR IS MY ONLY MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION AND WHEN DRIVING IT THE SPEEDOMETER WILL FREAK OUT AND ENDED UP BREAKING THE NEEDLE ON THE TACOMETER AND THIS LEADS TO THE THEFT LIGHT POPPING UP WHEN I AM DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. THIS ACTED UP WHEN I WAS GOING OVER AND INTERSECTION AND ENDED UP STALLING THE VEHICLE RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE AND WHILE A CAR WAS COMING FROM ONE WAY LUCKLY I GOT THE VEHICLE STARTED AND TIME AND GOT OUT OF THERE BUT AFTER TAKING IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY COULDNT EVEN FIGURE OUT WHAT COULD BE WRONG I DONT FEEL LIKE LOOSING MY LIFE. *TR
THE ABS LIGHT IS ON AND THE ABS SYSTEM IS INOPERABLE. *TR
THE ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM LIGHT AS WELL AS THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS KEEP COMING ON. GARAGE CAN'T TELL THE EXACT CAUSE. THE BOOSTER ARM BUSTED, KEEPING THE BRAKES ENGAGED AS DRIVEN. THE BOOSTER ARM WAS REPLACED AND THE LIGHTS ARE STILL ON. I RESET IT, AND THEY REAPPEAR AFTER A SHORT TIME. I NOW SMELL THE BRAKES WHEN APPLIED. I'VE HAD ENGINE REPLACED AT 101,000 MILES, TWO TRANSMISSIONS, MULTIPLE BRAKE JOBS, REAR AXLE REPAIRED, FRONT AXLE REPAIRED, FRONT TIE RODS REPAIRED. THE ALIGNMENT ON MY VEHICLE COULD ONLY BE PARTIALLY COMPLETED.... TOE, AND ANOTHER ALIGNMENT DONE, BUT THE COMPLETE ALIGNMENT WOULD NEED A HOLE DRILLED IN THE FRAME AND A BOLT MOVED OVER - BAD DESIGN BY FORD. I'VE ALSO HAD TO HAVE THE OXYGEN SENSOR REPLACED AT MY OWN EXPENSE. THE VEHICLE IS A TICKING TIME BOMB, PIECE OF CRAP. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH THE BRAKE LIGHT BEGAN TO ILLUMINATE ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT ADDED BRAKE FLUID AND AFTER RESTARTING THE VEHICLE ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL BEGAN TO ILLUMINATE. A CERTIFIED MECHANIC FROM AN AUTHORIZED DEALER EXAMINED THE VEHICLE AND INFORMED THAT CONTACT THAT FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM THE VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR AND SPILLING ONTO THE WIRING HARNESS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHERE IT WAS REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V399000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE DEALER REFUSED TO REPAIR THE FAILURE ASSOCIATED WITH THE WIRING HARNESS AND GAUGES ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL, WHICH WERE CAUSED BY THE SPEED SENSOR LEAK. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 137,000.
THE ABS AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS GO ON RANDOMLY FOR NO REASON, ALSO CRUISE CONTROL WILL STOP WORKING. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN MY HILL, MY BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON. NOW MY ABS LIGHT COMES ON WITH MY BRAKE LIGHT. BRAKE FLUID IS PRESENT, BRAKES ARE ALMOST A YEAR OLD. FOR OVER A YEAR NOW, MY VAN AFTER IT BEING TURNED ON AND OFF (ERRANDS, SHOPPING ETC), IT DOES NOT WANT TO START. ONCE IT DOES START, AS I TURN THE WHEEL WHILE IN PARK, IT STALLS. NOW THAT MY BRAKE AND ABS LIGHTS COME ON, AS I TURN THE WHEEL IT WANTS TO STALL WHILE DRIVING. WHEN I AM TURNING MY VEHICLE OFF, I TURN THE KEY DOWN VERY SLOW AND ALL THE WAY DOWN, THAT SEEMED TO ONLY HELP IT RESTART A FEW TIMES. I HAD MY VEHICLE AT THE FORD DEALER FOR THE RECALL IN 2010 DEALING WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ISSUES. MY OD LIGHT HAS BEEN OFF FOR OVER A YEAR NOW AS WELL. WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE, WHEN I AM STOPPED, I NOTICE A WHITE COLORED SMOKE COMING OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD, AND NO ONE CAN FIND WHERE IT IS COMING FROM, ESPECIALLY HAPPENS WHEN IT IS DAMP OR RAINING OUT, AND ENGINE TEMP IS NORMAL.(I CAN NOT TAKE MY VAN TO AN AUTO CAR WASH DUE TO THE FACT IT STARTS SHAKING, SMOKING AND WON'T RUN OR STAY STARTED WHEN THE UNDER CARRIAGE IS BEING SPRAYED) FUEL PUMP, STARTER AND IGNITION COIL ARE FINE. THE 1ST PROBLEM, HAD A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON MY 2001 FORD WINDSTAR, C1518 "INTAKE MANIFOLD RUNNER CONTROL STUCK OPEN." AFTER READING FORUMS, MOST POINTED TO A PLASTIC "BUSHING" CLIP COMING OFF LEAVING A CONTROL ARM 2ND PROBLEM, ABS CHK LIGHT AND BRK CHK LIGHT COME ON AFTER DRIVING FOR A FEW MINUTES, ABS MODULE AND ABS SENSOR WENT OUT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HEAT WOULD NOT COME OUT THROUGH THE VENTS IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE EVEN THOUGH THE HEAT WAS FUNCTIONING PROPERLY IN THE REAR. IN ADDITION, HEAT WOULD NOT COME THROUGH THE DEFROST VENTS, ALLOWING THE FRONT WINDSHIELD TO BECOME FOGGY AND REDUCE VISIBILITY. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT WHEN THE FAILURES BEGAN, A CLICKING NOISE WOULD EMIT FROM BEHIND THE DASHBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. RIGHT AFTER I HAD THE RECALL FOR 3 DIFFERENT RECALL THE FRONT END, BRAKES, REAR AXLE COMPLETED MY ABS LIGHT, BRAKE LIGHT & TRACK OFF LIGHTS ALL LIGHT UP ON MY DASH ALL AT THE SAME TIME & STAY ON. I HAVE A PHOTO OF THIS. AFTER I TURN VAN OFF FOR AWHILE (IT NEEDS TO COOL DOWN) THEY GO OFF. I CALLED FORD SEVERAL TIMES ABOUT THIS AND THEY SAID IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THEIR BRAKE RECALL OR FRONT END RECALLS IF I WANTED TO PAY THEM TO CHECK IT OUT I CAN BRING IT IN. AMAZING THAT I NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH MY VAN UNTIL FORD STARTED FIXING THE RECALLED ITEMS. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THE FAILURE WAS A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT. THE CONTACT STATED LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD AND THE RADIO BEGAN TO FLASH ON AND OFF. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AGAIN AND WAS TOLD THAT THE ALTERNATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN, BUT THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 68,785.

I PURCHASED MY 2002 FORD WINDSTAR AS A NEW VEHICLE AND I HAVE BEEN THE ONLY OWNER AND DRIVER. IT HAS RECEIVED REGULAR PROFESSIONAL SERVICING AND REPAIRS AND OVERALL, IS IN SUPERIOR CONDITION. SINCE 2007 IT HAS ONLY BEEN USED ON THE WEEKENDS AND I USE A SMALLER CAR FOR WORK. A FEW YEARS AGO, THE ABS LIGHT STARTED COMING ON UNPREDICTABLY AND INTERMITTENTLY IN RAINY WEATHER AND THE BRAKES WOULD LOSE POWER DRAMATICALLY INCREASING BRAKING DISTANCES. BECAUSE THE PROBLEM WITH BRAKING WAS SPORADIC AT FIRST, THE MECHANIC THOUGHT IT WAS MERELY AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM CAUSING THE ABS LIGHT TO COME ON. THE FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR SUCH A PROBLEM. I HAVE HAD THE BRAKES REPLACED, AND ALTHOUGH THE PADS AND ROTORS ARE IN GOOD CONDITION, THE BRAKING PROBLEM HAS WORSENED. THE ABS LIGHT AND INTERMITTENT BRAKE FAILURE IS MUCH MORE FREQUENT. I HAVE RECENTLY LEARNED THAT OTHER WINDSTAR OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM AND THAT FORD RECALLED 1999-2003 WINDSTARS FOR ABS BECAUSE THE ECU MASTER RELAY HAS A BAD SOLDIER JOINT THAT FAILS CAUSING THE INTERMITTENT CONTACTS. WHEN I BROUGHT THAT INFORMATION TO MY FORD SERVICE MANAGER, I WAS TOLD THE RECALL DID NOT INCLUDE MY PARTICULAR VIN. I AM NOT SURE HOW FORD DETERMINES WHICH VINS GET RECALLED -- BUT I AM SURE THAT MY VEHICLE SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED. IT IS UNSAFE BECAUSE THE BRAKES ARE UNPREDICTABLE AT THIS POINT. IT IS SCARY TO THINK THAT FORD WOULD ALLOW THIS KNOWN AND SERIOUS DEFECT IN IT'S VEHICLES TO GO UNADDRESSED. *TR

I AM THE OWNER OF A 2002 FORD WINDSTAR. I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE WITH 16,000 MILES ON IT AND IT NOW HAS 104,000. I AM CURRENT ON ALL OF THE RECALLS ISSUED BY FORD AS OF JUNE 2011. MY ABS LIGHT, AND BRAKE LIGHT HAVE BEEN COMING ON RANDOMLY THROUGHOUT THE COURSE OF DRIVING DURING THE DAY FOR THE PAST 4 YEARS. I LIVE IN FLORIDA. IT IS ON ALWAYS THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER AND LESS FREQUENT DURING THE WINTER MONTHS. I HAVE HAD THE COMPUTER UPDATED WITH THE LATEST SOFTWARE BY FORD 3 YEARS AGO WHEN THE PROBLEM STARTED OCCURRING... DID NOTHING TO HELP. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND LOCAL MECHANIC. EACH HAVE LOOKED AT IT AND HAVE TOLD ME DIFFERENT THINGS. THE DEALER SUGGESTED I NEEDED A NEW ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE. ( I DID THE RECALL SUGGESTED BY FORD AND HAVE THE NEW WIRE HARNESS ON THE VAN. IT HAS DONE NOTHING TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM OF THE ABS LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT COMING ON) HE SAYS BECAUSE OF THE HEAT IT WARMS UP AND CAUSES INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL CONNECTION IN THE UNIT BECAUSE THE FRAGILE BOARD IS BEING STRETCHED AND MALFORMED. THE CODE MOST COMMONLY SCANNED BY PROFESSIONAL MECHANICS IS CODE C1185. THE LOCAL MECHANIC (NOT FORD) TEST DROVE THE VAN AND FOUND ALL KINDS OF ABS CODES COMING UP AND SINKS FAILING. I LEFT IT AT HIS SHOP AND THE NEXT MORNING HE DROVE IT AGAIN AND THE LIGHTS WERE OFF. HE SAID IT IS A COMPUTER ISSUE BECAUSE EVERYTHING DOESN'T JUST FAIL ALL AT ONCE AND THEN NO LIGHTS COME ON THE NEXT DAY IN THE A.M. LATER THAT DAY WHEN I TOOK IT HOME AND IT STARTED TO HEAT UP IN THE SUMMER TIME HERE IN FLORIDA THE LIGHTS CAME BACK ON INDICATING TO ME THAT I HAD NO ANTI-LOCK BRAKES!!!!!
