MY 2002 FORD WINDSTAR LX INSTRUMENT CLUSTER HAS ILLUMINATED BOTH THE RED BRAKELIGHT AND YELLOW ABS LIGHTS. THIS IS CONSISTENT WITH NHTSA INVESTIGATION EA08021. NO SIGN OF BRAKE FLUID BELOW BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR. LIGHTS COME ON AND OFF. SEEMS TO BE LINKED WITH EXTERIOR TEMPERATURE - ON DAYS THAT ARE WARM, THE LIGHTS ILLUMINATE. ON DAYS THAT ARE COLD, THEY ARE LESS LIKELY TO BE ILLUMINATED.*TR
3/4/2008 CS SPEEDO AND ODO INOP. ALL DASH INDICATORS STAY ON. OD LIGHT FLASHES. REPLACED DEACTIVATION SWITCH & REPAIR WIRING 12/4/2008 BRAKE LIGHT AND ABS LIGHT WON'T GO OUT. BRAKE FLUID OK. MY MECHANIC DISCOVERED ABS SERVO HOUSING MELTED AND WIRING BURNED UNDER VEHICLE IN AREA OF DRIVERS SEAT. MECHANIC SAYS IT IS A MANUFACTURING FLAW THAT SHOULD NEVER HAVE HAPPENED. HE EXPECTED THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM BUT THE DEALER SAYS NO RECALL FOR THIS. FORD DEALER REPORTED CODES SET C1096 PUM CIRCUIT OPEN INSPECTED AND FOUND WIRE HARNESS HCU/ECU MELTED AND BURNT/NEEDS REPLACEMENT/ NOT RECOMMENDED VEHICLE BE DRIVEN DUE TO SAFETY ISSUES. DEALER HAS NEVER SEEN THIS PROBLEM AND DOESN'T KNOW WHAT CAUSED THE WIRING HARNESS TO SHORT OUT AND MELT THE PLASTIC HOUSING. DANGER OF ELECTRICAL FIRE. REPAIR COST OVER $4,000. DECISION MADE IS VEHICLE IS NOT WORTH REPAIRING SINCE OWNER CANNOT DO HIMSELF. CAR WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACE BOTH GARAGES SEEM TO THINK THERE WAS FIRE AT SOME POINT THAT STAYED LOCAL ENOUGH TO MELT THE PLASTIC BUT NOT SPREAD TO OTHER AREAS. *TR
MY ABS LITES & BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ALWAYS COMING ON . *TR
OUR 2002 FORD WINDSTAR HAD THE ABS AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHT COME ON WHILE DRIVING THIS HAPPENS AT INTERVALS WITH NO APPARENT CONNECTION TO WEATHER, DRIVING SPEED, ETC. THE LIGHTS WILL GO OFF WHEN THE VAN IS SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED. I HAVE NOT MADE AN APPT WITH MY MECHANIC TO CHECK THE PROBLEM AS OF YET. ON 11/26/2008. WHILE TRAVELING AT NIGHT ON AN INTERSTATE THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON AND SHORTLY AFTERWARD THE HEADLIGHTS DIMMED. THE AIR BAG AND BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON AND THE TURN SIGNALS AND HEADLIGHTS STOPPED WORKING ALTOGETHER. WE WERE ABLE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD COMPLETELY. SHUT THE VAN OFF AND IT WOULD NOT RESTART. TURNED ON THE HAZARD LIGHTS AND WAITED FOR HELP TO ARRIVE AFTER CALLING 911 ON CELL PHONE. THE HAZARD LIGHTS STOPPED WORKING ON THE FRONT OF THE VAN BUT CONTINUED TO WORK IN THE REAR. THE INTERIOR LIGHTS STARTED BLINKING AND WOULD NOT SHUT OFF AT ALL WHEN PUSHING THE SWITCH. THE REAR HAZARD LIGHTS ALSO WOULD NOT SHUT OFF WHEN THE TOW TRUCK THAT WAS DISPATCHED ARRIVED. VEHICLE WAS TOWED FROM THE INTERSTATE TO THE NEAREST VEHICLE REPAIR GARAGE. GARAGE HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO LOOK INTO THE PROBLEM DUE TO THE VEHICLE BREAKING DOWN THE DAY BEFORE THANKSGIVING. GARAGE WILL CALL ON FRIDAY AFTER THEY HAVE LOOKED INTO THE PROBLEM. *TR
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON, NOT RUNNING SMOOTHLY. DIAGNOSTIC CODES P0171 & P0174, ONCE PCM MEMORY IS RESET RUNS FINE FOR ABOUT A HUNDRED MILES, THEN ISSUE STARTS AGAIN. DEALER UNABLE TO DETERMINE PROBLEM. *TR
THE ABS BRAKE SYSTEM HAS FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER STATES THE CONTROL MODULE IS DEFECTIVE. THE BRAKE SYSTEM WAS SERVICED IN JUNE, 08, WITH REPLACEMENT OF THE FRONT DISC BRAKES AND ROTORS. THERE ARE NO LEAKS AND THE FLUID LEVEL IS OKAY. DURING THE WEEK OF 11/10 THE ABS LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON. THE FLUID LEVEL WAS CHECKED AND DETERMINED TO BE OKAY. THE ABS LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON IMMEDIATELY WITH VEHICLE START UP. THE VEHICLE HAS TO RUN FOR 15 MINUTES BEFORE THE LIGHT WILL COME ON. THE LIGHT COMES ON EVERYTIME THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN IF THE LENGTH OF DRIVING IS LONGER THAN 15 MINUTES. THE FAILURE HAS RESULTED IN NOT HAVING THE ABS SYSTEM FUNCTIONING. AT THIS POINT THERE HAVE BEEN NO REPAIRS DONE TO THE VEHICLE. THE FORD DEALER HAS READ A CODE OF C1185 FROM THE COMPUTER SYSTEM. MY VISUAL INSPECTION OF THE CONTROL SYSTEM UNDER THE VEHICLE DOES NOT SHOW ANY VISIBLE CORROSION. THE VEHICLE HAS 78,000 MILES. *TR
2002 FORD WINDSTAR. ENGINE WARNING LIGHT COMES ON. TEST METER SHOWS LEAN CONDITION IN BANK 1 & 2. RESETTING THE MIL LIGHT WILL WORK FOR A FEW DAYS, THEN WARNING LIGHT COMES ON AGAIN. ENGINE RUNS WELL, NO NOTICEABLE PROBLEMS IN DRIVING. THIS HAS HAPPENED FOR AT LEAST 20,000 MILES. *TR

2002 FORD WINDSTAR ABS LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY COMES ON. UNABLE TO DETERMINE PROBLEM. *TR
WHILE DRIVING BRAKE, ABS, TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHTS DISPLAY ON...ON DASH. MANUAL STATES WHILE THESE WARNING LIGHTS ARE ON ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEMS ARE AUTOMATICALLY DISENGAGED. FORD DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED THIS. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH BRAKES. FORD SERVICE TOLD ME EITHER ONE OR BOTH OF THE FOLLOWING PARTS ARE MALFUNCTIONING- NUMBER 2F2Z-2C219-CA-CONTROL MODULE, AND PART NUMBER 1F2Z-2B373-BA VALVE ASSEMBLY........... AND THAT IT IS SENSING A PROBLEM WHEN THERE IS NONE AND SHUTTING DOWN THE SYSTEMS WHICH CAN BE DANGEROUS. THEY TOLD ME THEY ARE SEEING THIS "ALOT" WITH THESE VEHICLES. THE PARTS ARE APROX 800.00 A PIECE INSTALLED BY FORD AND DEALERSHIP STATES "ITS GETTING HARD TO FIND USED ONES THAT WORK PROPERLY" BOUGHT THE VAN USED APROX 2 WEEKS AGO AND THIS HAS OCCURRED 3 TIMES. SERVICE TOLD ME THERE IS DANGER WITH THESE SYSTEMS DISENGAGED AND THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT IT COULD POTENTIALLY ALTER EVEN NORMAL BRAKING. THE FIRST TWO TIMES IT OCCURRED THE LIGHTS WHEN OFF WHEN I SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND TURNED IT BACK ON. THE THIRD TIME THAT DID NOT WORK, BUT THEY WERE OFF WHEN VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AFTER SITTING ONE DAY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHT, TRACTION LIGHT AND ABS LIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE INTERMITTENTLY. THE FAILURE PROGRESSED AND MOST RECENTLY, THE LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED DAILY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE HANDLING CONTROL UNIT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO CONFIRM IF THAT WAS THE EXACT CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V385000 (SUSPENSION:REAR:AXLE:NON-POWERED AXLE ASSEMBLY) BUT WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE CAMPAIGN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 55,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 92,480.
2002 FORD WINDSTAR. BRAKE WARNING AND ABS WARNING LIGHTS COME ON UNEXPECTEDLY. THEY CAN BE RESET ONLY BY TURNING OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTING. THE COME ON INTERMITTENTLY. BRAKE FLUID LEVEL IS OK. SOMETIMES THEY COME ON WHEN HITTING A BUMP, SOMETIMES GOING UP A HILL, SOMETIMES NOTHING BUT LEVEL ROAD AND AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR AT LEAST 25,000 MILES. *TR
FORD WINDSTAR 2002. CRUISE CONTROL ONLY ENGAGES INTERMITTENTLY. WHEN CRUISE CONTROL IS ON, IT WILL DIS-ENGAGE ABRUPTLY FOR NO REASON. YELLOW ABS DASH LIGHT AND RED BRAKE WARNING DASH LIGHT GO ON INTERMITTENTLY (SIMULTANEOUSLY). AFTER THEY GO ON, THEY STAY ON UNTIL THE CAR IS TURNED OFF. THE ABS SYSTEM APPEARS TO STILL WORK CORRECTLY EVEN WHEN THE YELLOW ABS LIGHT IS ON AND THE RED BRAKE LIGHT IS ON (ALTHOUGH THERE IS NO WAY FOR THE DRIVER TO TELL IF THE ABS SYSTEM AND BRAKE SYSTEM ARE WORKING CORRECTLY OR NOT WHEN THE WARNING LIGHTS ARE ON). MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED THAT THE ECM CONTROL MODULE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE ELECTRONIC COMPONENT WITH NO MOVING PARTS, AND THERE IS NO REASON THAT THIS BOARD SHOULD BE FAILING. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH 2002 FORD WINDSTAR MODELS. I BELIEVE FORD SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO OFFER FREE DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR FOR ANY PROBLEMS RELATED TO ECM CONTROL MODULES FOR THIS MODEL YEAR. I FIRST NOTICED THE PROBLEM AROUND OCTOBER 2008 AS THE WEATHER TURNED COLDER. THIS IS CONSISTENT WITH A THEORY THAT THE ECM BOARD IS SENSITIVE TO TEMPERATURE CHANGES, WHICH AFFECTS THE CORRECT WORKING OF THE CRUISE CONTROL AND ABS SYSTEMS. THE CRUISE CONTROL MOSTLY DID NOT WORK DURING THE WINTER 2008-2009. AS WARMER TEMPERATURES ARRIVED IN SPRING 2009, THE CRUISE CONTROL STARTED TO WORK INTERMITTENTLY AGAIN. SOMETIMES IT ENGAGES CORRECTLY, SOMETIMES I PUSH THE "SET" BUTTON REPEATEDLY AND FINALLY IT ENGAGES, SOMETIMES I PUSH THE "SET" BUTTON REPEATEDLY AND IT WILL NOT ENGAGE. WHEN IT IS ENGAGED, IT WILL DIS-ENGAGE ABRUPTLY FOR NO REASON. I SUSPECT SOMETIMES IT DIS-ENGAGES BECAUSE THE CAR HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD - BUT FREQUENTLY IT DIS-ENGAGES WITH NO BUMP IN THE ROAD. HAVING THE CRUISE CONTROL DIS-ENGAGE ABRUPTLY FOR NO REASON IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND COULD EASILY RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT. HAVING THE ABS SYSTEM NOT WORK CORRECTLY (DUE TO THE ECM MODULE) IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND COULD EASILY RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT. *TR
BRAKE PRESSURE DIFFERENTIAL DEACTIVATION SWITCH (2B264) LOCATED UNDER THE MASTER CYLINDER (BEHIND THE AIR FILTER) OVER TIME DEVELOPED A LEAK. MY CRUISE CONTROL HAS STOPPED RESPONDING, AND BRAKE FLUID IS LEAKING AT AN EXPONENTIAL RATE OUT OF THE RESERVOIR ABOVE THE MASTER CYLINDER. *TR
AT THIS TIME THERE HAS NOT BEEN AN INCIDENT, HOWEVER FORD IS NOT TAKING THE ABS MODULE PROBLEM SERIOUSLY. MY 2002 FORD WINDSTAR SE CURRENTLY HAS THE ABS AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS COME ON AT RANDOM TIMES. THESE LIGHTS STAY ON FOR A PERIOD OF TIME AND THEN WHEN VAN IS RESTARTED SOMETIMES THEY ARE STILL ON AND SOMETIMES THEY ARE NOT. I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO FIX FORD'S FLAW. *TR
THIS IS ON A 2002 FORD WINDSTAR. THE BRAKE PRESSURE DIFFERENTIAL DEACTIVATION SWITCH LOCATED UNDER THE MASTER CYLINDER HAS DEVELOPED A LEAK. THIS APPEARS TO BE A KNOW PROBLEM WITH THE FORD WINDSTAR BUT FORD HAS DONE NOTHING ABOUT IT. ALSO, THE ABS SYSTEM FAILED DUE TO HEAT BUILD UP. AGAIN IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS SOMETHING THAT FORD HAS KNOWN. I ALSO NOTICED THAT FORD ESCAPES WERE RECALLED WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM SO WHY NOT THE WINDSTARS? *TR
CRUISE CONTROL BRAKE CANCELLATION SWITCH ON A 2002 FORD WINDSTAR SMOKING AND BLOWING FUSE #10. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY DURING A PCS MILITARY MOVE, THE ABS LIGHT AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. THIS INCIDENCE OCCURRED IN JUNE OF 2007. I TOOK IT BY AN AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR SHOP, AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE BRAKES PROBABLY HEATED UP, AND IT WOULD GO OFF AT THE END OUR TRIP. AS OF THE SUMMER OF 2008, THE ABS WARNING LIGHT AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHT STARTED COMING ON AGAIN. I TOOK IT TO AN AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR SHOP AND WAS GIVEN THE CODES C1185 AND D1262. THE WARNING LIGHT HAS SINCE THEN COME ON AND OFF. IN OCTOBER OF 2008, WHILE I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY, THE CRUISE CONTROL LIGHT WAS FLASHING, THE RPM METER, SPEEDOMETER, AND FUEL METER SHUT DOWN AND COMPLETELY FAILED ON ME. I WAS STILL ABLE TO DRIVE, AND THE NEXT DAY I TOOK IT TO AN AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR SHOP AT WHICH THEY PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTICS TEST AND HAD TO REPLACE THE BRAKE PRESSURE SWITCH. NOW WHILE I DRIVE, THE OUTSIDE BRAKE LIGHTS STAY ON. JUST THIS MORNING, MY NEIGHBOR INFORMED ME THAT MY OUTSIDE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE FLASHING AND MY BATTERY DIED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD WINDSTAR. THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM, TRACTION CONTROL AND SERVICE BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS WOULD SIMULTANEOUSLY ILLUMINATE ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, AND A TECHNICIAN CONCLUDED THAT THE MASTER CYLINDER FAILED. HE THEN ADDED THAT THE REPAIRS WOULD COST OVER $2400.00. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE LESS THAN 62,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH THE ANTILOCK BRAKE LIGHT AND THE BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF AND UPON RESTART THE LIGHTS WERE NO LONGER ILLUMINATING. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR INTERMITTENTLY OVER THE LAST TWO AND A HALF YEARS. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 48,000.
ABS LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHTS SWITCH ON AND OFF IN MY 2002 WINDSTAR WITH NO WARNING FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS. VAN IS AT 110K MILES, AND SEEMS TO DRIVE FINE. BECAUSE THE WARNING LIGHTS KEEP GOING ON AND OFF, I DON'T KNOW IF THE WARNING SYSTEM IS ACTUALLY WORKING. THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING BECAUSE I DON' KNOW HOW SAFE MY VAN IS. I HAD THE BRAKES CHECKED COMPLETELY WHEN THIS STARTED AND WAS TOLD THEY WERE FINE....ANOTHER MECHANIC SUGGESTED THE ABS MODULE WAS GOING BAD? *TR
QUICK STOPPING AND APPLYING THE BRAKES A LITTLE HARDER THAN NORMAL IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM ENGAGED. THE NEXT TIME THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED THE PEDAL WENT RIGHT TO THE FLOOR AND THERE WAS LITTLE AND NEXT TO NO BRAKES. I SLOWLY EASED TO THE RIGHT LANE WHERE I COULD REACH THE SHOULDER. AFTER HAVING THE PROBLEM LOOKED AT AND REPAIRED , I WAS TOLD THAT THIS MODEL DOES NOT BYPASS THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM WHEN IT LOCKED UP AND FAILED. I COULD NOT BRAKE WITH MY NORMAL BRAKING SYSTEM. I HAD RECENTLY HAD MY BRAKES CHECKED AND I HAD 50% BRAKES LEFT. SO I WAS TOTALLY SURPRISED AND FRIGHTENED WHEN I HAD NO BRAKES TO STOP SAFELY. I KEEP MY CAR REGULARLY CHECKED AND IN GOOD WORKING ORDER BECAUSE I DO NOT LIKE SURPRISES. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED BY FORD. THE ABS LIGHT DID NOT GO ON AND THERE WERE NO LEAKS OF FLUID. I CHECKED AND THERE WERE NO RECALLS. *TR
SENSOR ON BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER IS LEAKING ON TRANSMISSION ELECTRIC CONNECTOR, ALMOST RAN OUT BRAKE FLUID. *TR
ABS BRAKE LIGHT IS ON. I WAS INFROMED THAT THERE MAY BE A RECALL FOR THESE VEHICLES. 2002 FORD WINDSTAR.*TR

NORMAL DRIVING, ABS WARNING LIGHT AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHT COME ON. I TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND THE WARNING LIGHTS GO AWAY. IT IS THOUGHT THAT THE PROBLEM IS THE SAME PROBLEM THAT FORD TRUCKS HAD THAT CAUSE FIRES UNDER THE HOOD AND HAS BEEN RECALLED. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ THIS SHOULD ALSO WARRANT A RECALL. *TR
ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, UNABLE TO PUMP GAS, GAS BLOW BACK WHEN ATTEMPTING TO FILL, TAKES SEVERAL MINUTES AND ATTEMPTS TO FILL TANK. HAVE TAKEN IT TO SEVERAL SHOPS UNABLE TO FIND PROBLEM, ENGINE LIGHT CLAIMS TO BE BLEEDING PROBLEM, HAVE DROPPED TANK, CHANGED FILL VALVE, FUEL FILTER, FUEL PUMP, 3 FUEL CAPS AND STILL HAVE ISSUE. *TR
2002 FORD WINDSTAR VAN...DASH BRAKE LIGHTS AND ABS LIGHTS COME ON WHILE DRIVING. YOU TURN VEHICLE OFF THEN ON THE LIGHTS GO OUT. DRIVE A LITTLE WHILE, LIGHTS ARE BACK ON. IT OCCURS WHEN IT IS HOT OUTSIDE, AND WHEN THE AC IS ON. *TR
ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT COMING ON AND HAVING NO SPEEDOMETER OR ODOMETER READING. WHEN VEHICLE WARMS UP THE BRAKE LIGHT WILL COME ON. REPLACED FUSES AND THEY WILL BLOW SHORTLY AFTER REPLACING. HAD SMOKE AND BURNING SMELL FROM UNDER VAN. LIGHT ON DAILY AND SMOKE WAS WHEN FUSE WAS REPLACED. REMOVED FUSE AND LEFT OUT AND SMOKE AND SMELL STOPPED. CONSEQUENCES IF POSSIBLE FIRE AND NOT KNOWING CORRECT SPEED AND CRUISE CONTROL NOT WORKING. TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM WE HAVE TRIED TO REPLACE FUSES AND SEE WHAT IS CAUSING PROBLEM. 2002 FORD WINDSTAR BRAKE LIGHT AND ABS LIGHT ON. COMES ON AFTER SHORT TIME EVERY TIME. *TR
BACK IN 2008 MY ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD COME ON WHILE DRIVING TO WORK. I HAD THE PROBLEM LOOKED AT AT MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP. THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS THE ECU/HCU CONTROL BOX. BUT BECAUSE MY EXTENDED WARRANTY DID NOT WANT TO PAY FOR THE 1200.00 BILL BECAUSE THEY FELT THAT ONLY THE ELECTRONIC SIDE AND NOT THE HYDRAULIC SIDE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. SO I THEN WENT TO ANOTHER FORD DEALER AND THEY DIAGNOSED AND REPLACED ONLY THE ELECTRONIC SIDE. THERE WERE 3 TIMES THAT I HAD TO PAY THE $100.00 DEDUCTIBLE TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM DIAGNOSED, WHICH WAS EVENTUALLY FIXED(NO MORE LIGHTS) BY THE SECOND DEALER. THEN IN JUNE OF 2013,NOW WITH 116,563 MILES ON IT,MY GAUGE CLUSTER STARTED TO ACT FUNNY. ALL OF A SUDDEN WHEN I WAS DRIVING, THE GAUGE NEEDLES WOULD MOVE OUT OF CONTROL. EVENTUALLY THE TAC NEEDLE PEGGED ITSELF ALL THE WAY TO THE RIGHT AND THE SPEEDOMETER QUIT WORKING. I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE GAUGE CLUSTER WITH A REBUILT ONE FOR $789.00. SINCE THAT TIME I HAVE NOT HAD ANY MORE ISSUES WITH THE GAUGE CLUSTER. I WAS TOLD BY THE TECH THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE WINDSTARS. I ALSO HAVE A 2001 FORD WINDSTAR THAT HAS 105,000 MILES ON IT THAT I AM THINKING ABOUT SELLING SO I DON'T HAVE TO ENDURE THE COST OF A GAUGE CLUSTER IN IT. ALSO ALONG WITH HAVING TO REPLACE FUEL PUMPS IN BOTH VEHICLES AT A COST OF AROUND $1000.00 EACH I AM WONDERING IF FORD HAS A GOOD PRODUCT. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME. *JS
MY VAN BRAKE LIGHT AND ABS LIGHT HAD BEEN COMING ON FOR AT LEAST 6 MONTHS... MY MECHANIC WAS TRYING TO DETERMINE IF IT WAS THE ABS SWITCH OR ABS MODULE AND JUST RESET THE CODES AFTER A TUNE-UP. WE WOULD ADD BRAKE FLUID TO THE CAR ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHEN I STARTED MY VAN AND BACKED OUT OF A PARKING SPOT. I SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING AND REALIZED MY VAN WAS SMOKING. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS STEAM AND THEN I REALIZED IT WAS WHITE SMOKE. SO I REPARKED MY VEHICLE, SHUT IT OFF AND POPPED THE HOOD. WHEN I GOT AROUND I FOLLOWED THE ENGINE FROM LEFT TO RIGHT AND IN THE BACK RIGHT WAS A PERFECT PROPANE FLAME. I BLEW IT OUT. I NOTICED THE PART WAS CONNECTED DOWN BELOW THE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR, WIRED RAN TO THAT PART, ON THE BOTTOM THE PART THAT WAS ON FIRE WAS RUSTED. BUT IT APPEARED TO PLUG INTO THE PART IT WAS ATTACHED TO LIKE A KEY AND THEN WIRES CAME DOWN FROM THERE... MY MECHANIC DISCONNECTED THE PART SAYING I WOULD NOT LONGER HAVE CRUISE CONTROL AND HE ORDERED THE PART FROM FORD IN MILLEDGEVILLE, GA. HE REPLACED THE PART ON 8/25/08. I DO NOT BELIEVE THE OLD PART IS STILL AVAILABLE. SINCE THE PART HAS BEEN REPLACED MY BRAKE LIGHT AND ABS LIGHT STILL COME ON! *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON A STREET AND THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME CAME TO A SUDDEN STOP. I IMMEDIATELY HAD TO BRAKE AND THEN THE ABS LIGHT AND MAIN BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THE ABS MODULE WAS BAD AND I ASKED THEM IF THE KNEW WHY AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY DID NOT KNOW. I THEN ASKED IF THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO DRIVE AND THEY SAID YES BUT I WOULD NOT HAVE ABS BRAKES. *TR
THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON. FIRST YELLOW, THEN RED. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED AND AFTER DOING A GOOGLE SEARCH I FOUND THIS IS A MANUFACTURERS PROBLEM CAUSED BY THE EXPANSION OF A LARGE ALUMINUM PLATE IN THE ECM WHICH IS ATTACHED TO THE ECM MAIN CIRCUIT AT ALL POINTS. THE PROBLEM WAS TEMPORARILY RESOLVED BY SHUTTING THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON. THIS IS A 2002 FORD WINDSTAR SEL. *TR
VARIOUS WARNING LIGHTS COMING ON,ABS , BRAKE LIGHT , ODOMETER READING DASHES ONLY AND OVERDRIVE LIGHTS STARTED BLINKING WHILE DRIVING. ELECTRICAL DIAGNOSIS AND PINPOINT TEST BY FORD FOUND THAT THE FUSE BLOWN DUE TO THE BRAKE PRESSURE SWITCH LEAKING FLUID THROUGH THE WIRING HARNESS TO THE SPEED CONTROL SERVO AND MELTING THE SERVO. TWO DAYS AFTER THE REPAIR, THE ABS LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT STARTED COMING ON AGAIN. TESTED AGAIN BY FORD DEALER, THEY SAID IT'S A FAULTY ECU MODULE. *TR
THE BRAKE LIGHT AND ABS LIGHT ON THE DASH WILL TURN ON. THE BRAKE SYSTEM HAS BEEN CHECKED AND NO CAUSE CAN BE FOUND. IT IS OCCURRING WHEN ENGINE IS HOT. AFTER TURNING OFF ENGINE AND RESTARTING IT, THE LIGHTS WILL STAY OFF FOR APPROX 10 MIN. THEN TURN ON AGAIN. I AM REQUESTING A RECALL. FORD MOTOR COMPANY HAS BEEN AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM FOR SOME TIME NOW, AND SO DO YOU. THIS PROBLEM HAS CAUSED FIRES IN OTHER FORD WINDSTARS. PLEASE FORCE AN INSTANT RECALL. *TR
MY 2002 FORD WINDSTAR STARTED RIDING REALLY ROUGH. THE TIRES WERE CHECKED AND SEEMED TO BE FINE. THE BACK END OF THE VAN SEEMED TO BE RIDING VERY ROUGH AND MY MECHANIC THOUGH IT MIGHT BE A STRUT ISSUE. AS IT TURNS OUT, THE REAR AXLE BROKE COMPLETELY IN HALF WHILE MY FATHER IN LAW DROVE MY TWO YOUNG CHILDREN ON THE HIGHWAY. WHAT A SCARY EXPERIENCE. MY 2002 FORD WINDSTAR VAN IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE ABLE TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK WITHOUT FIRST PRESSING AND HOLDING THE BRAKE. MY 2 YR OLD SON WAS ABLE TO SHIFT IT OUT OF PARK BY SIMPLY PULLING ON THE GEAR SHIFT LEVER. THIS RESULTED IN THE CAR ROLLING DOWN A HILL AND SMASHING INTO A TREE WITH MY SON INSIDE. HE WAS NOT HURT. THE CAR WAS A TOTAL LOSS ACCORDING TO MY INSURANCE CO. THE CAR WAS IN PARK AND THE ENGINE WAS NOT RUNNING AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH FORD MOTOR CO BUT I ONLY GET GENERIC RESPONSES. MY INSURANCE CO IS HOLDING THE VEHICLE UNTIL A REP FROM FORD HAS A CHANCE TO EXAMINE THE SHIFT LOCK MECHANISM BUT THEY SEEM UNINTERESTED. I HAVE SEEN ON LINE WHERE THERE ARE TWO OTHER SIMILAR CASES REGARDING FORD WINDSTAR VANS AND I BELIEVE THIS COULD BE A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. *TR

THE CONTACT PULLED INTO A FORD DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE BRAKE CRUISE DEACTIVATION SWITCH WAS LEAKING INTO THE FUSE BOX. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE SPEEDOMETER TO FAIL AND THE ABS AND SEVERAL OTHER LIGHTS TO ILLUMINATE. RECALL NUMBER 05528 (DEACTIVATION SWITCH) WAS REFERENCED REGARDING THE FORD EXPLORER.
