OUR 2002 WINDSTAR HAS HAD NUMEROUS ISSUES. FROM CLUNKING FRONT SUSPENSION; RATTLING SLIDING DOORS; INTERIOR LIGHTS AND LOCKS THAT WOULD COME ON AND OFF BY THEMSELVES. HOWEVER, THERE ARE TWO UNRESOLVED ISSUES AND IT'S BEEN TO DEALERS NUMEROUS TIMES, AND EACH TIME, THEY JUST BLOW ME OFF. THE TRANSMISSION SHUDDERS BETWEEN THE FIRST AND SECOND SHIFT, AND DOES A "TWO-STEP" SHIFT. WHEN IT FINALLY DOES THE SECOND HALF OF THE TWO-STEP AND ENGAGES, THERE IS AN AUDIBLE COOKOO, JUST LIKE A COOKOO CLOCK. THE OTHER INFURIATING PROBLEM AND POSSIBLE DANGER IS THE BRAKE PEDAL. IT SQUEAKS LIKE AN OLD MATTRESS AND ALSO STICKS TO THE FLOOR IF YOU HAVE TO BRAKE WHILE YOU ARE DRIVING AT FREEWAY SPEEDS. YOU HAVE TO USE THE TIP OF YOUR SHOE TO PULL THE PEDAL BACK UP. VISIT AFTER VISIT AFTER VISIT TO 3 DIFFERENT DEALERS AND THEY ALWAYS CLAIM THERE IS NOTHING WRONG. THEY WERE PLAYING "BEAT THE CLOCK" WITH THE WARRANTY AND NOW THAT'S GONE, AND THEY ARE STILL DOING IT WITH THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. INFURIATING. NOBODY CARES AND NOBODY WILL HELP. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD WINDSTAR. SINCE SEPTEMBER OF 2006, THE ABS LIGHT CONSTANTLY ILLUMINATES. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TWICE AND THEY REPLACED THE ABS MODULE UNDER WARRANTY; HOWEVER, THIS DID NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ESTIMATED COST FOR REPAIR WAS $1,200. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 180,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE ABS SENSOR LIGHT AND BRAKE SENSOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN RESET THE LIGHTS IN ORDER TO TURN IT OFF, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,000.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE CRUISE CONTROL DID NOT DEACTIVATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE BRAKE PEDAL NEEDED TO BE SLAMMED DOWN TO DEACTIVATE THE CRUISE CONTROL . THERE WERE NO LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD. THE DEALERSHIP WAS CONTACTED. THE REAR BRAKE LIGHTS, TAILLIGHTS AND TURN SIGNALS DID NOT FUNCTION. THE CONTACT WAS UNAWARE WHEN THE LIGHTS STOPPED FUNCTIONING. THE POWER DOOR LOCKS WILL NOT WORK. THE CONTACT EXPRESSED ALL OF THE LOCKS FAILED AT THE SAME TIME. THE DRIVER'S SIDE POWER LOCK WAS THE ONLY LOCK THAT WORKED PROPERLY. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOT CONTACTED ABOUT OTHER PROBLEMS. UPDATED 9/15/2006 - A BAD REM MODULE WAS SAID TO BE THE CAUSE OF ALL THE FAILURES. *NM
SPEEDOMETER NOT WORKING ACCURATELY (OCCASIONALLY SPEEDOMETER WILL WORK THAN STOPS, WHICH INDICATES DEFECTIVE PART). FORD SAYS SPEEDOMETER AND GEAR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED NOW. PRIOR TO THAT THEY SAID COMPUTER NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED BECAUSE OF TIRE SIZE.. CRUISE CONTROL DID NOT WORK BUT WAS FIXED BY FORD VIA RECALL NOTICE DUE TO LEAKING SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH (SCDS). AS I UNDERSTAND THE DEALER WOULD ALSO INSPECT THE ABS CONTROL MODULE CONNECTOR AND REPAIR AS NECESSARY. ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT ARE ON ALL OF THE TIME WHICH IS A RESULT ABS CONTROL MODULE FAILURE. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD WINDSTAR. WHENEVER THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING AND THE TEMPERATURE IS VERY HIGH, THE CONTACT CAN SMELL GASOLINE INSIDE THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 65,552 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000. UPDATED 08/31/09 *BF
I HAD AN ACCIDENT IN MY 2002 FORD WINDSTAR IN WHICH I HIT AN EMBANKMENT, A DEER AND A TREE HEAD ON AT 35 MILES PER HOUR. THE CAR WAS TOTALED, THE ENGINE WAS PUSHED IN TO THE DASHBOARD. I HAVE TRIED SEVERAL AVENUES INCLUDING FORD TO FIND OUT WHY THE AIRBAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. WHAT DID THE BLACK BOX RECORD? AS TO THE EVENTS OF THE ACCIDENT. *JB
2002 FORD WINDSTAR ABS (YELLOW) AND RED BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON REGULARLY FOR THE PAST 2 YEARS. THIS IS ESPECIALLY TRUE WHEN THE VEHICLE AND OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE ARE HOT. HAS NOT RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT YET, BUT IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THE ABS SYSTEM DOES NOT FUNCTION WHEN THE LIGHT IS ON. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELLING ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN THE PASSANGER SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED FOR NO REASON. THE PASSANGER INCURRED INJURIES HOWEVER THE EXTENT OF INJURIES HAVE NOT BEEN COMFIRMED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERS FOR REPAIRS. THROUGH A DIAGNOSTICS ANALYSES OF VEHICLE THE DEALER DETERMINED THERE WAS A CATALYST CAUSING THE AIRBAG TO DEPLOY HOWEVER THE REASON HAS NOT BEEN DETERMINED YET. THE DIAGNOSTIC REPORT HAS BEEN SENT TO THE MANUFACTURER SO THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER CAN COLLABORATE ON THE CAUSE OF THE AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD WINDSTAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL INCREASE IN STOPPING DISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT BRAKE FLUID HAD LEAKED INTO THE ABS ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE HAD RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V399000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL) BUT WAS TOLD THAT THE DEALER WOULD ONLY REPLACE THE SPEED CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH AND REPAIR THE ABS CONTROL MODULE CONNECTOR IF NECESSARY. THE RECALL REPAIR WOULD NOT COVER REPAIRS FOR THE ABNORMAL LEAKING OF BRAKE FLUID. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 150,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 200,000.
2 TIMES OVER THE PAST 3 YEARS WE HAVE TURNED ON THE AIR CONDITIONER IN OUR 2002 WINDSTAR AND THE CAR HAS LOST POWER AND STALLED ON THE HIGHWAY. THE COMPRESSOR FAILED AND SEEMED TO SEIZE CAUSING SIGNIFICANT LOSS OF POWER AND THE CAR TO STALL WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME AND EACH TIME THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED THE REPAIR WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BUT THIS TIME THE REPAIR COST MORE THAN $1100. THE FAILURE CAUSED A LOSS OF POWER IN THE CAR AND CAUSED THE ENGINE TO STALL, THE STEERING WAS STIFF AND BRAKES BECAME DIFFICULT DUE TO LOSE OF ENGINE POWER. *JB
VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND SOMEONE NOTICED THAT SMOKE WAS COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. AN ELECTRICAL FIRE HAD STARTED FROM WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR ASSEMBLY AND BURNT THROUGH MOTOR TERMINAL GUIDE. BOTH PARTS HAD TO BE REPLACED. IF THIS PROBLEM WAS NOT CAUGHT EARLY EXTENSIVE FIRE DAMAGE WOULD HAVE OCCURRED. *KB
ON JUNE 16, 2006, WHILE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN A PARKING LOT, SOMEONE INFORMED US THAT MY 2002 FORD WINDSTAR WAS SMOKING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. AN INTERNAL FIRE OCCURRED, DAMAGING THE WIRING HARNESS AND WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR. UNAWARE TO THE CAUSE OF SAID FIRE THE DAMAGED PARTS WERE REPLACED. THEN OTHER PROBLEMS STARTED TO ARISE, THE VEHICLE CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING, THE ABS/BRAKE LIGHT REMAINED ON AND THE SPEEDOMETER WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY (NOT ACCURATELY READING). THE LOCAL FORD DEALER WAS INFORMED OF THE BEFORE-MENTIONED PROBLEMS INCLUDING THE INTERNAL FIRE THAT HAD OCCURRED , AT THE TIME OF THE INITIAL BRAKE PRESSURE DEACTIVATION SWITCH RECALL. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE BRAKE PRESSURE DEACTIVATION SWITCH INDEED WAS LEAKING AND THAT THEY SUPPOSEDLY CHECKED THE ABS CONTROL MODULE. STILL THE ABS/BRAKE LIGHT REMAINED ON AND THE SPEEDOMETER DID NOT WORK PROPERLY. ON 3/14/14 THE WINDSTAR WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL GARAGE TO DIAGNOSE THE ABS/BRAKE ISSUES AGAIN. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT SAID UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE ABS MODULE WAS SUBSEQUENTLY REMOVED AND EXAMINED THE CONTROL MODULE (3/21/2014). THE ABS MODULE SUFFERED AN INTERNAL FIRE AND THE WIRING HARNESS CONNECTOR WAS MELTED AND DAMAGED. ALSO FOUND WAS EVIDENCE OF SIGNIFICANT BURNING AROUND THE PINS AT THE CONNECTIONS. THIS EVIDENCE INCLUDED THE BLACKENED FLUID, SEVERE DISCOLORATION, AND LIFTED TRACES, ALL OF WHICH ARE CLEARLY APPARENT IN PHOTOS OF THE MODULE INTERIOR. THE LOCAL DEALER REFUSED TO REPAIR OR REPLACE THE MODULE UNDER THE RECALL CLAIM, STATING THAT IT WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL, AND THAT SAID RECALL WAS CLOSED. FORD HAS BEEN NEGLIGENT IN THIS MATTER AND LUCKILY THE VEHICLE PRIOR TO TODAY, HAS NOT BECOME A RUNAWAY FIRE EVENT AND BURNED TO THE GROUND!! AT THIS TIME THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED, AND IS SITTING IDLE. I HAVE KEPT THE DAMAGED CONTROL MODULE FOR EXAMINATION. *TR
I HAVE A 2002 FORD WINDSTAR THAT THE ABS LIGHT GOES ON AND OFF WHEN DRIVING. I HAVE HAD IT CHECKED WHEN I HAVE HAD MY CAR IN FOR SERVICE AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THERE ARE NO RELATED CODES FOR THIS. I WAS TOLD BY MECHANIC THAT THEY DO NOT KNOW WHY THE LIGHT GOES ON AND OFF. I WAS CHECKING A WEBSITE AND FOUND MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS FROM PEOPLE WHO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THEIR FORD VEHICLES. I AM NOW HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE FRONT ELECTRIC MODULE THAT STOPPED WORKING. I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS RELATED TO THE ABS LIGHT OR NOT BUT IT SEEMS THAT FORD'S HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THEIR ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS. IT WILL COST ME APPROXIMATELY $800 TO REPLACE THE FEM MODULE IN ORDER FOR MY DRIVER SIDE WINDOW TO WORK AGAIN. I DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH IT WOULD COST TO REPLACE THE ABS MODULE BUT IT SOUNDS AS IF OTHER FORD OWNERS DID THAT AND HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE HAD MY BRAKES CHECKED BY A MECHANIC AND THEY LOOK GOOD (DON'T NEED TO BE REPLACED). I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS ABS LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON AND OFF AND IF THE BRAKES WILL MALFUNCTION. *TR
WHINING NOISE IN POWER STEERING. I TOOK TO THE FORD DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE POWER STEERING PUMP, BUT LESS THAN 10000 MILES LATER THE WHINNING STARTED AGAIN. I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER FORD DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE RACK AND PINION (AND CHARGED ME $800. ABOUT 2 MONTHS LATER THE WHINE IS BACK AND I KNOW IT IS THE POWER STEERING PUMP. *JB
MY ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATES AT TIME. THE PROBLEM STARTED ON THE WAY HOME FROM BUYING THE VEHICLE. IT HAS NEVER BEEN FIXED. I WAS TOLD IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM. SOMETHING WITH THE ELECTRICAL PART OF THE VEHICLE. SOMETIMES I CAN CUT THE CAR OFF AND TURN IT BACK ON FOR THE LIGHT TO GO OFF. OTHER TIMES IT STAYS ON FOR DAYS AT A TIME. *JB
LEFT FORD DEALERSHIP WITH MY JUST PURCHASED 02 FORD WINDSTAR. WITHIN 10 MILES OF DEALERSHIP ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON. RETURNED TO DEALERSHIP ON MONDAY. TRIED TO CHARGE ME DIAGNOSTIC FEE FOR ISSUE.... WOULDN'T FIX PROBLEM UNLESS I PAID FOR PARTS AND LABOR. I COMPLAINED NUMEROUS TIMES. SAID WASN'T THEIR PROBLEM AND NOT A RECALL. STILL HAVING ISSUE. NOW VEHICLE HAS ABS LIGHT ON (WITHOUT BRAKE LIGHT). CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. BARELY MADE IT HOME.... GOING BACK TO DEALERSHIP TOMORROW. I WILL NEVER AGAIN PURCHASE A FORD. ESPECIALLY NOT FROM DEALERSHIP THAT WON'T CORRECT PROBLEM EVEN THOUGH I PAID $2K EXTRA FOR EXTENDED WARRANTY. *TR
FRONT LEFT LEAF SPRING BROKE AND DISLODGED FROM BASE THEREBY PIERCING FRONT TIRE CAUSING A BLOWOUT WHILE VEHICLE WAS MOVING. FORTUNATELY,WE WERE NOT TRAVELING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED WHEN BLOWOUT OCCURRED. *JB
THE HEATER DOES NOT WORK GOING TO THE FEET IN MY VAN. IT PUSHES AIR THROUGH THE OTHER COMPONENTS WHEN SELECTED BUT NEVER TO THE FEET. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 10MPH, THERE WAS A TOTAL LOSS OF THE BRAKES WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNING. THE CONTACT MANAGED TO MANEUVER THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP. THE MECHANIC DISCOVERED THE BRAKE PRESSURE SWITCH WIRING MELTED WHICH ALLOWED LEAKAGE OF ALL THE BRAKE FLUID. THE MECHANIC SUGGESTED THIS FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE CRUISE CONTROL DEACTIVATION SWITCH. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL, # 05V388000, REGARDING THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL. THE VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL; HOWEVER IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN. THE MECHANIC DISCONNECTED THE CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH DUE TO A POSSIBLE FIRE RISK AND ADDED MORE BRAKE FLUID. NO FURTHER REPAIRS WERE MADE.
CONTINUALLY GETTING INTERMITTENT ABS AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS, HAVE TAKEN TO FORD DEALER AND LOCAL GARAGES AND NEITHER KNEW THE PROBLEM. *TR
RED BRAKE LIGHT AND YELLOW A.B.S. LIGHT ILLUMINATE. DIAGNOSIS: A.B.S. MODULE IS DEFECTIVE. *NM
I WAS DRIVING 55 AROUND 8:45 PM ON A LOCAL HIGHWAY, THERE WERE NO OTHER CARS AROUND, WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN I HEARD A SOUND LIKE AN EXPLOSION AND I FELT PAIN ON THE LEFT SIDE OF MY FACE. I DID NOT BRAKE, I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE GAS AND PULLED OVER AND TURNED ON THE OVERHEAD LIGHT. MY FACE AND EAR HURT AND MY EARS WERE RINGING, I LOOKED TO MY LEFT AND FOUND THAT THE SIDE AIRBAG THAT DEPLOYED, WHICH WAS WHAT HAD CAUSED THE RINGING IN MY EARS AND THE PAIN IN THE SIDE OF MY FACE. I CALLED 911 AND A NY STATE TROOPER RESPONDED. HE LOOKED IN THE ROAD AND AT THE CAR AND DETERMINED THAT I DID NOT HIT AN ANIMAL, THAT THERE WAS NO LARGE DEBRIS IN THE ROAD THAT I MAY HAVE HIT, AND THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO NEW DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE- ESPECIALLY THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. THE ONLY EXPLANATION IS THAT THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED ON ITS OWN. WHEN THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED, IT TORE OPEN THE FABRIC OF THE DRIVERS SEAT AND FOAM STUFFING FROM THE SEAT EXPLODED OUT AND ALL OVER THE INSIDE OF THE MINIVAN. TODAY I WENT TO THE FORD DEALER FROM WHOM I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE AND WE ARE ATTEMPTING TO DETERMINE HOW THE DAMAGE WILL BE REPAIRED. FORD WANTS ME TO FILE AN INSURANCE CLAIM AND HAVE MY INSURANCE COMPANY PAY FOR THE REPAIR, BUT I BELIEVE THIS TO BE A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS MECHANICAL DEFECT ON FORD'S PART AND THAT FORD SHOULD PAY FOR THE REPAIR AND INVESTIGATE THE PROBLEM FURTHER. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP JUST KEPT TELLING ME THAT AIRBAGS JUST DON'T DEPLOY ON THEIR OWN, BUT AFTER LOOKING AT MY VAN HE AGREED THAT IT MUST HAVE DEPLOYED ON ITS OWN SINCE THERE IS NO DAMAGE ON THE DOOR TO INDICATE THAT I WAS STRUCK BY SOMETHING. *JB
ABS BRAKE LIGHT COMES ON, CRUISE CONTROL WILL STOP WORKING OR WILL NOT WORK AT ALL AND SPEEDOMETER/ODOMETER ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS (SPEEDOMETER WILL AT TIMES JUMP UP OR DOWN WHEN SHOWING SPEED (MPH) AT TIMES ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WILL COME ON AND OFF. RIGHT NOW I HAVE THE YELLOW ABS LIGHT ON, ALSO THE RED BRAKE LIGHT IS ON. IN A FEW DAYS THEY MAY TURN OFF, ONLY TO TURN BACK ON A FEW DAYS LATER. I AN VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE ABS LIGHT, WITH THE LIGHT ON, DOES THE ABS SYSTEM STILL WORK? I BOUGHT THIS WINDSTAR NEW IN NOV. 2002. BRAKES HAVE BE REPLACED AND OR CHECKED AND IT KEEPS DOING THE ABOVE. NOTE: VEHICLE HAS 66,000+ MILES. *TR
I BOUGHT A 2002 FORD WINDSTAR. IT HAD 53,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. THE DAY I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE IT WAS RAINING AND HAD NO REASON TO ROLL DOWN THE WINDOWS AND ASSUME THE CAR HAS ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. THE NEXT DAY AFTER PURCHASE I TRIED ROLLING DOWN THE WINDOW AND WAS UNABLE. I LEFT A MESSAGE WITH THE SALES DEPT. NOW THEY SAY THEY HAVE NO RECORD OF THIS. SINCE THIS DAY I HAVE EXPERIENCED VARIOUS ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS (LIGHTS SHUTTING OFF, DOORS NOT WANTING TO LOCK/UNLOCK, ABS BRAKE LIGHTS ON, GAS ON EMPTY ALTHOUGH I HAVE A FULL TANK) I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR STATES THERE IS A $100.00 DEDUCTIBLE. I FEEL AS THOUGH I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY THIS, YOU SOLD THIS CAR TO ME UNSAFE. I WAS TOLD THEY DID NOT KNOW THE LIGHTS WERE INTERMITTENTLY GOING OFF/ON. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION WHERE SHE WAS REFERRED TO A GLASS REPAIR SHOP. THE REPAIR SHOP SAID THE ENTIRE FRONT WINDSHIELD WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE ABS LIGHT ALONG WITH THE RED BRAKE LIGHT COME ON FREQUENTLY. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR ABOUT THREE YEARS. FOR THE PAST YEAR AND A HALF THESE LIGHTS ALONG WITH THE BATTERY LIGHT COME ON AND THE VAN SURGES, LURCHES AND DIES. THIS HAPPENS AT ANY TIME, AT LIGHTS ESPECIALLY BUT EVEN WHEN DRIVING. SOMETIMES ALL TYPES OF LIGHTS ON THE CONSOLE BEGIN TO FLICKER AND I HEAR A TICKING/CLICKING NOISE AS IT OCCURS. I HAVE STARTED MY ENGINE AND SEEN THE ODOMETER RUN WHAT APPEARS TO BE SOME SORT OF DIAGNOSTIC TEST. IF I PUSH THE TRIP RESET WHEN THIS IS HAPPENING IT CYCLES THROUGH SEVERAL WORDS AND CODES AND THE GAUGES (FUEL, SPEEDOMETER AND TEMPERATURE) MOVE ALL THE WAY TO THE RIGHT THEN FALL BACK TO ZERO AND THE IGNITION CLICKS RAPIDLY. JUST TODAY WHEN I WENT OUT FIRST THING IN THE MORNING TO START MY VAN, MY ELECTRONICS DOOR OPENER WOULD NOT WORK. I HAD TO USE THE KEY, AND WHEN I OPENED THE DOOR THE FLASHING/ CLICKING WAS UNDERWAY. PARTS WERE BOUGHT AND REPLACED BY THE DEALER WITH IN A YEAR LIGHT BACK ON. CRUISE CONTROL CUT OUT REPLACED TWICE. BRAKING DISTANCE SUDDENLY INCREASED, UNDER CATEGORY: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC. MY BRAKE LIGHT AND ABS LIGHT COMES ON. ACCORDING TO THE MECHANIC I HAD THE SENSOR REPLACED IN THIS UNIT, AND NOT SURE WHAT THEY FIXED THE SECOND TIME. BOTH MECHANICS TOLD ME I WAS LEAKING BRAKE FLUID TOO, I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO ADD BRAKE FLUID MYSELF, I CAN'T REACH THE RESERVOIR. BRAKE AND ABS LIGHTS STILL COMES ON AND VERY SELDOM DOES THE LIGHTS GO OFF. I HAD TO HAVE A VEHICLE INSPECTION THIS PAST YEAR, AND THE FIRST TIME IT DID NOT PASS BECAUSE THE LIGHT WAS ON. THANKFULLY THE SECOND TIME I WENT IN FOR THE INSPECTION IT WAS NOT ON. HOWEVER, I AM CONCERNED WITH THIS YEARS INSPECTION.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 FORD WINDSTAR. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE ABS AND THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE WARNING LIGHT INDICATORS REMAINED ILLUMINATED UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. A DIAGNOSTIC WAS PERFORMED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE COMPUTERIZED SYSTEM WAS LOSING POWER, WHICH COULD POSSIBLY BE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. ON FIVE SEPARATE OCCASIONS, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR IDENTICAL FAILURES. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 94,470.
DURING THE SUMMER OF 2003 WHILE DRIVING ONE EVENING, THE REAR WINDOW OF MY 2002 FORD WINDSTAR SHATTERED (BELIEVING IT TO BE CAUSED BY HOOLIGANS, THE POLICE WERE NOTIFIED). THE REAR WINDOW WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALER-RECOMMENDED GLASS INSTALLERS USING THE OEM RECOMMENDED PARTS. APPROXIMATELY 18-MONTHS AFTER REPLACEMENT OF THE WINDOW, THE VEHICLE WAS REAR-ENDED NECESSITATING REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE HATCH. THIS REPLACEMENT WAS MADE BY THE DEALER. THIS EVENING (7/14/05), WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE GARAGE, THE REAR WINDOW AGAIN SHATTERED.

LIGHTS ON THE MIRRORS LUMINATE DUE TO CAR RECONGINIZING SYMTOM OF OPEN DOOR, DRAINING BATTERY. THIS PROBLEM FIRST OCCURRED WHILE ON AN 8 HOUR DRIVE HOME FROM CANADA, WAS BROUGHT TO FORD, THEY CHANGED THE FRONT PASSENGENER SENSOR CLAIMING CAR WAS FIXED AFTER 2 DAYS IN THE SHOP. 5 DAYS LATER WHILE ENROUTE TO NC, THE SAME PROBLEM AROSE, LOCKS OPENING AND SHUTTIING AND CAR CHIMMING CONSTANTLY. CAR WAS FLATBEDDED TO A FORD DEALERSHIP IN NORTH CAROLINA. CAR WAS SUPPOSEDLY FIXED, AGAIN, AFTER 3 DAYS IN THE SHOP. TEN MILES BBEFORE REACHING MY DESTINATION 65 MILES AWAY FROM DEALERSHIP , SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN, AFTER THE REAR SLIDING DOOR SENSOR WAS REPLACED AT THIS FORD.
