VIBERATION OF STEERING WHEEL, WHEN BRAKING FROM 60MPH. *TR
AT AROUND 8:45 A.M. ON JAN. 19, 2020, I LEFT MY HOUSE, DROVE TO THE ENTRANCE OF THE SUBDIVISION, AND TURNED LEFT ONTO THE CITY STREET. BECAUSE OF THE BAD WEATHER IN EARLIER HOURS, I KNEW THAT THE ROAD WAS RATHER ICY. SO I WAS EXTRA CAUTIOUS AND ESTIMATE MY SPEED WAS AROUND 25 MPH (POSTED SPEED LIMIT IS 40 MPH). JUST ABOUT 0.1 MILE FROM ENTERING THE CITY STREET, I SAW THAT THE STREET LIGHT ABOUT 100 YARDS AHEAD OF ME WAS RED. I TURNED MY SIGNAL TO GO INTO THE RIGHT LANE (STREET HAD BECOME 2 LANES VS ONE LANE AT THAT POINT) WHILE STARTING TO GENTLY PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL TO FURTHER DECELERATE. ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE CAR SEEMED TO DO ITS OWN THING, SLIDING AND TURNING ALMOST 90 DEGREES AND HITTING THE SNOW BANK ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE STREET, CAUSING SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO THE FRONT OF THE CAR (PRELIMINARY ESTIMATE OF $3,743 WHICH MAY GO HIGHER). WHEN I STARTED DECELERATING, MY SPEED MUST HAVE BEEN AROUND 25 MPH. ALTHOUGH I DON'T KNOW THE SPEED AT THE POINT OF IMPACT, IT MUST HAVE BEEN RATHER LOW SINCE THE AIR BAGS DID NOT GO OFF AND I DID NOT GET ANY WHIPLASH. OF COURSE, I WAS WEARING MY SEATBELT. HERE IS WHAT I BELIEVE HAPPENED: THIS CAR HAS A STRANGE-FEELING BRAKE. IF YOU PUSH GENTLY ON IT, AFTER A COUPLE OF SECONDS IT BRAKES HARDER AND INDEED JERKS THE OCCUPANTS BEFORE STOPPING. I KNEW THIS IRRITATING THING FOR A WHILE SINCE I HAD OWNED THE CAR SINCE THE SPRING OF 2019, BUT NEVER THOUGHT THAT IT COULD BECOME A HAZARD. I BELIEVE WHEN I PUSHED ON THE BRAKE GENTLY ON THE ROAD, IT STARTED BRAKING HARDER AFTER A COUPLE OF SECONDS AND THE CAR WENT OUT OF CONTROL ON THE RATHER ICY ROAD. I DO NOT KNOW IF THE ESC SYSTEM COMES INTO PLAY AS WELL OR NOT, BUT I AM CONFIDENT ABOUT HOW THE BRAKE ACTS. THIS BRAKING CONDITION IN MY CAR HAS BEEN VERIFIED BY ANOTHER DRIVER AND I AM OPEN TO FURTHER VERIFICATION. I AM NOW CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THIS CAR.
I CAN FEEL A "POPPING" IN MY HANDS THROUGH THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN TURNING THE WHEEL ONE OR TWO DEGREES LEFT OR RIGHT. THIS HAPPENS WHEN STANDING AT A LIGHT (FOOT ON BRAKE), IN PARK, MOVING LESS THAN 10MPH, AND EVEN WITH THE CAR OFF. THE POPPING CAN ALSO BE FELT BELOW THE STALKS ON THE STEERING COLUMN. THERE IS ALSO A POPPING SOUND OR "CLICK" THAT IS MOST EASILY HEARD WHEN THE CAR IS OFF. IT FEELS LIKE THE STEERING WHEEL IS "CATCHING SOMETHING" IN THE FIRST 1 OR TWO DEGREES OF MOVEMENT BEFORE THE WHEELS TURN. THE PROBLEM STARTED AFTER ABOUT 4,400 MILES, IN JANUARY OF 2020. I HAVE THREE VIDEOS OF THE ISSUE SO FAR. HYUNDAI GENESIS REFUSE TO FIX IT, AS THEIR TECHS CANNOT DIAGNOSE WHAT IS CAUSING THE POPPING FEELING AND NOISE.
WHEN BRAKING THE STEERING WHEEL, BRAKE PEDAL, AND EVENTUALLY THE WHOLE CAR PULSES/SHAKES/VIBRATES. WHEN I HAD MY FIRST MAINTENANCE, I TOLD THE DEALER ABOUT IT AND THEY TEMPORALLY FIXED IT BY SHAVING THE ROTORS. IT COMES WITH BREMO CALIPERS BUT NOT BREMO PADS, ROTORS, ETC. I'VE SPOKEN WITH A LOT OF PEOPLE OVER SOCIAL MEDIA AND A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE THIS SAME ISSUE AND THE ONLY THING THAT SEEMS TO BEING DONE IS SHAVING AND REPLACING THE ROTORS/PADS WITH THE SAME ONES THAT HAVE THE ISSUE. MANY HAVE SOLVED THE PROBLEM BY RELYING ON AFTERMARKET PADS AND ROTORS WHICH ARE EXPENSIVE DUE TO THE SPORTINESS OF THIS VEHICLE. I DON'T BELIEVE WE SHOULD HAVE TO BUY EXPENSIVE AFTERMARKET PARTS TO FIX A SAFETY HAZARD AND POTENTIALLY VOID ANY WARRANTY WHEN WE BUY/LEASE A NEW EXPENSIVE VEHICLE. THE BRAKING SYSTEM OF A VEHICLE IS ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT PARTS AND THIS NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED ASAP, THANK YOU! *TR
AFTER EXACTLY 2,000 MILES ON THIS CAR I NOTICED AIR LEAK CAUSING MY CAR TO FOG DURING WINTER WHICH I DROVE WITH WINDOW SLIGHTLY DOWN SO THAT I COULD GET TO PLACES WITHOUT HAVING ALL THE FOG. I ALSO HAVE HAD RANDOM AIR BAG SYSTEM FAILURES WHILE DRIVING. STATING MY COMPLETE AIR BAG SYSTEM IS DOWN
Since it was new, my 2019 Genesis G70 Twin Turbo with AWD has had occasional long hesitation (it happens every couple of days) when I step on the gas, lasting anywhere from 3 to 10 seconds. It happens from a stop, and also at times when the car is going 5-10 mph. The motor has been fully warmed up when this happens. When you step on the gas, the motor is still running but there is no response, no increase in engine rpm, then after a hesitation of up to 10 seconds, it kicks in with a sudden surge of speed. No warning lights come on. Needless to say, this is very dangerous when attempting to pull out into highway traffic, or simply maneuvering around in parking lots or normal traffic conditions. The danger is not just the failure to move, but also the sudden unpredictable lurch forward when it "catches". I brought it to the dealer several times, but it never hesitates when they have it, and they see nothing wrong. The car was scanned by an independent mechanic and he found no codes or any indication of a problem. I tried shutting off Electronic Stability Control but it didn't help. It happens in all modes, including sport mode. This is a continuous issue. The car currently has 12,505 miles on the odometer.
EVEN WITH HANDS ON THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN ON THE HIGHWAY THE CAR WARNS YOU TO PUT YOU HANDS ON THE WHEEL. WHEN ACCELERATING USING THE STEERING WHEEL CRUISE CONTROLS THE CAR ACCELERATES RAPIDLY GOING WAY FASTER THAN ONE WOULD WISH. UNLIKE MOST CARS, THE SWITCH ON THE STEERING WHEEL DOES NOT LOCK IN A SPEED WHEN YOU RELEASE IT WHEN SPEEDOMETER READS THE DESIRED SPEED. INSTEAD THE CARE KEEPS ACCELERATING, THE TURBO KICKS IN AND THE G-FORCE PUSHES YOU BACK INTO THE SEAT. *TR
