NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2019 Genesis G70. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
The contact owns a 2019 Genesis G70. The contact stated that upon advising a friend that the turbocharger oil feed pipe was made of plastic, the contact was informed that there was a recall related to the issue. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was confirmed that another dealer had marked NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V191000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); as completed even though the recall repair was not performed on the vehicle. The dealer and the district engineers inspected the vehicle and confirmed that the recall repair was not performed. The dealer notified the manufacturer of the issue and sent supporting pictures to the manufacturer; however, the manufacturer denied coverage after receiving several claims from the dealer. The dealer then advised the contact to report the issue to the NHTSA Hotline because the vehicle was at risk of catching on fire. The contact had not yet experienced a failure.
UNINTENDED VEHICLE MOVEMENT AT STARTUP - POTENTIAL CLUTCH DEFECT On January 17, 2026, at approximately 1:59 PM, I started my 2019 Genesis G70 (manual transmission) while parked in my garage. The vehicle was in Neutral with the parking brake engaged. I depressed the clutch pedal fully before pressing the start button, with no foot on the accelerator. Immediately upon starting, the vehicle lurched backward at significant speed without any driver input to accelerator, gear shift, or parking brake release. I attempted to stop the motion by pressing the brake pedal firmly but the vehicle continued moving. The vehicle struck the garage door frame (bending the driver's door backward), nearly pinning my [XXX] son between the door and garage structure. The car continued across my driveway, struck my neighbor's parked Lexus RX 350, then crashed into the neighbor's garage door and siding. RELEVANT PRIOR HISTORY: - February 7, 2025: Genesis authorized clutch/transmission repair at Rick Case Genesis dealership - February 27, 2025: Dealership stated car was ready, but upon arrival, technician could not release vehicle because it would "not shift gears" or "move" - March 5, 2025: Vehicle released; clutch engagement point was unusually high - December 2025: Clutch pedal required full depression to shift reliably - January 2026: Difficulty shifting in cold weather unless car was warmed up POST-INCIDENT OBSERVATIONS: - Clutch engagement point was on the floor (abnormally low) - No dashboard warning lights appeared before or during incident - Backup camera did not activate - EDR data (downloaded by Genesis March 5, 2026) confirms 0% accelerator pedal and 0% engine throttle throughout the event INJURIES: Minor (skin abrasion to my toe). My son was nearly pinned but not injured. PROPERTY DAMAGE: My vehicle (door/frame), neighbor's vehicle, neighbor's garage door and siding. MANUFACTURER RESPONSE: Genesis Case XXX opened. I have contacted Genesis multiple times about finding an authorized repair center to complete the recall there are none in my city or state they keep telling me that their site is down and that they will call me back but they still have not it's been two weeks I've called multiple times and have no resolution to the recall on my g70 On the website it says Hyundai dealerships should be able to fix the recall both Hyundai dealerships in Albuquerque Larry h Miller have refused to do the recall saying that they can't do it I've been told this is a pretty dangerous situation and my car can catch fire and neither the Genesis manufacturer or the Hyundai dealerships are willing to help me at all I did not buy it from a Hyundai dealership I bought it from Rich Ford as one of those certified used cars.
Dealership refuses to make repair to fuel pump under recall and emailed me as follows: Cause of failure is the fuel pressure regulator in the high pressure fuel pump, the vehicle is setting DTC P0091, the vehicle does have an open campaign for inspection of DTC P0088 and if the vehicle does have P0088 it calls for replacement of the high pressure fuel pump. However since the vehicle is not setting DTC P0088 I cannot warranty under campaign 24-01-076G
I'd like to note that I've seen a large amount of 2019 Genesis G70 RWD drivers make the same complaint as myself, the VSS completely and suddenly just stopped working. No heavy or hazardous driving to report. The VSS ties into the ABS, forward collision, and blind-spot safety cameras making them all inoperable.
- The shifter inhibitor switch (also known as gear position sensor or range sensor) malfunctioned, triggering a check engine light and causing a warning message on the dashboard indicating “Shifter Malfunction.” Yes, the component is still installed and available for inspection upon request. - The malfunction may cause the vehicle to fail to recognize or shift properly between gears, increasing the risk of sudden loss of drive, inability to shift out of park, or unexpected behavior during driving or parking. This creates a potential safety hazard, especially in traffic or on inclines. - Yes, the issue was diagnosed and confirmed by a Genesis dealership, which recommended replacing the shifter inhibitor switch to resolve the problem. - No, the vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives at this time. Only the dealership has performed diagnostic work. - Yes, the check engine light appeared along with an on-screen warning that read “Shifter Malfunction.” These symptoms appeared and prompted the inspection.
Oil pressure sensor in the engine failed. This issue is critical and unsafe due to driver distraction and making sure their engine will not seize. I had to pull over on the side of the highway, and risk endangering myself and others. The problem has been confirmed my multiple independent shops and dealers, and a lot of other owners of this vehicle have been experiencing the same issue. The vehicle has not been inspected by the police, only by the dealer. Their argument is that it is not covered under warranty and it does not violate safety regulations. There were no symptoms of the issue whatsoever. Only a warning lamp as soon as it occurred, freaking out drivers.
On my 2019 G70, the A/C started blowing warm air and had the dealership diagnosis come back with a leaking evaporator. After doing about 20 minutes of research, I have found multiple forums talking about this failing after about 5 years or 50k-60k miles. I even was able to confirm from the service advisor that the A/C on a lot of early Genesis models come in for the same or similar repairs. For a part that typically lasts 10-15 or the life of the car in most makes, this is extremely concerning, especially living in areas where it is very hot most of the year. I have had the car inspected by the dealer and two independent repair shop and all were able to reproduce the same diagnosis. There were no indicators that this would be a potential issue from my past general maintenance services at the dealership and no symptoms that would lead me to believe that anything with the A/C was starting to fail. One day while driving, the cold air just stopped and was only blowing warm air. Outside of general discomfort while driving for more than several minutes, this is a major safety concern, like I stated above, and being in a very hot environment almost year-round, not having A/C in my car isn't really up for discussion.
Got an oil change on [XXX] , and 8 days after my oil light turned on. When I'm driving it turns off. When I'm on a stand still it turns on. When I give it a little gas on a stand still it turns off. My local Genesis Dealership thinks my Oil pressure switch can be failing. These cars are manufactured in Korea and have had a recall on them in Korea for similar issues since around 2021 of November. To me this is definitely a safety issue and such be addressed as such. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
5 times in the last 3 months the vehicle stalled while coming to a stop to put in park once, and 4 other times when the vehicle was off and parked, then started. The vehicle immediately began to stall out sounding as if it wasn't getting enough fuel. The last 2 times it stalled when being started, the vehicle remained on once I gave it a little gas by pressing the gas pedal when the stall started. The dealership is aware and performed a software update stating no components needed replaced and to keep an eye on it and a record of when it happens. Although it's believed to be an issue with the fuel pump, this specific one is not listed under the fuel pump recall.
The contact owns a 2019 Genesis G70. The contact stated that while driving 45-50 MPH and merging onto the highway, the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle jerked and failed to respond while the RPMs increased. The contact exited the highway and continued driving at a slow speed. The contact stated that the failure recurred several times while driving and exceeding 30 MPH. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V528000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); and related the failure to the recall. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the engine control module software update was performed; however, the contact stated that while driving from the dealer's parking lot, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer; however, the dealer informed the contact there was no earlier availability to diagnose the vehicle. The dealer referred the contact to Napleton's West Palm Beach Hyundai (2301 Okeechobee Blvd, West Palm Beach, FL 33409), where it was diagnosed that the failure was related to the GDI fuel pump. The second dealer informed the contact that the recall repair was not performed correctly and referred the contact back to the first dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. The manufacturer attempted to contact the first dealer, but the first dealer had been unreachable. The manufacturer had not provided any further assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 45,980.
However, the oil pressure light seems to flash on and off when it wants too. After doing an oil change every 3,500k miles, it started to turn on recently. I’ve checked the oil and everything seems to be fine. I’ve seen multiple forums with others having the same defect and since the car is made in Korea, Korea has a recall for the same exact issue. Some people are being turned away from shops because of the location of oil pressure sensor but also cracking the aluminum the sensor sits in or in some the timing cover. Although the sensor only turns off when the car is higher rpm’s and driving, it’s still annoying to deal with when it’s a common defect with genesis but yet not a recall. I called the 2 dealers, Genesis of Southfield and Genesis of Dearborn to set an appointment to address the vehicles recalls. Genesis of Southfield stated they are unable to address the recall until next year. I called Genesis of Dearborn multiple times and when trying to make an appointment, either I am put in hold or hung up on. I have left multiple voicemails, and they still have not called me back. I called Genesis corporate to address the issue and they said they cannot get the dealers to perform the recall sooner then next year as well.
On numerous occasions, while driving with the adaptive cruise control on, at highway speeds, and no other vehicles near me, the system emits several beeps, shows that I'm close to a vehicle ahead of me (there isn't one), and initiates hard braking for maybe a couple of seconds. It is VERY disconcerting, and I haven't been able to find a common denominator for this issue, except that it seems to only happen during daylight hours, on sunny days. Should this happen while another car is following me, this could certainly cause an accident.
The contact owns a 2019 Genesis G70. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V528000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
When driving the vehicle it feels as though as it stalls due to choking all or some of the fuel getting to the engine. This is most prone when accelerating fast. It feels as though the fuel is shut off or severely diminished as the vehicle will accelerate, but at a fraction (crawl) of the normal output available and accomplished in the past.
The contact owns a 2019 Genesis G70. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. In addition, the contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with fuel pump failure; however, the contact was informed that the parts were not available to repair the vehicle. The contact was informed that he could pay for the repair out of pocket, and later be reimbursed. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V528000 (Fuel System, Gasoline); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was 63,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

Genesis issued safety recall for all 2019 G70’s because the starter solenoid could be contaminated with water resulting in a potential risk for an engine compartment fire ( letter received from Genesis Motor America LLC. 8-1-24 ). Currently the solenoid replacement part for Genesis recall # 018G is not available @ any US dealerships; thus, requiring placing an order for said part. This represents a profound lack of timely customer service and is an ongoing problem with Genesis parts supply chain.
Hi, I’m an Automotive technician writing on behalf of my Girlfriend. She drives a 2019 Genesis G70 2.0T. Her High pressure fuel pump failed Diagnosed by me. Throwing the Code P0088 which is a too high pressure in fuel rail system code. She was driving to work in the morning about last week and was on the highway when the car completely lost power and would not move at all on the Highway she takes to work. Fortunately she was able to get the car limped home safely and no one was hurt but after this I contacted Genesis about the open recall they have for the high pressure fuel pump and asked if they could help us out even though there was no remedy available yet according to them and we had no help. Case manager just told us basically we have to pay out of pocket and that Genesis will not reimburse us for this inconvenience. The bulletin they released regarding the Recall states if the car has a check engine light for the high pressure fuel pump that it would be replaced at no cost to the owner regardless of Warranty situations. But they refuse to help. That’s why I am writing this because my Girlfriend needs a working vehicle to get to work and safely. Genesis needs to own up because I should not have to pay over 1000$ out of pocket because of a manufacturer mistake.

Powertrain failed while driving and the car complete shut off in traffic on a busy road. This is the second time this has happened.
From six to ten times over the past year, while at highway speeds, the adaptive cruise control has suddenly sounded warning chimes and momentarily engaged emergency braking, when there is no other vehicle or object ahead of me. I have had the system suddenly brake from over 70mph down to between 50 and 55mph, then begin to accelerate again. This has always happened in good daylight and clear weather. Fortunately, it has not happened when I had a vehicle close following me. Recently this happened three times on a three hour highway trip, and once again the following morning, also on a highway. On 11/07/23 I took it to the Genesis dealer, but the technician was unable to reproduce the problem.
NHTSA Recall Number 24V-107 I received notice of this recall in February. I was warned of a fire risk. I keep calling the dealer and reaching out to Genesis corporate and no remedy is available. It has been several months and this is unacceptable given the safety risk.
The contact owns a 2019 Genesis G70. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V107000 (Electrical System) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact owns a 2019 Genesis G70. The contact stated that while driving at 60 MPH, the vehicle briefly jerked, after which the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The contact was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle was able to restart but continued to experience significantly reduced motive power. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the high-pressure fuel pump. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V569000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the VIN nor the model was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 81,000.
My car as I was driving on the expressway stop getting power stop accelerating. The collision warning light came on and the check engine light came on. My car has done this several times while I am driving and it’s very scary. It even wouldn’t crank sometimes and the dealership couldn’t find anything wrong

It’s been 4 months since the recall came out about the starting wire and nothing has been remedied.
Driver and passenger seats recline back but do not come forward. Passengers cannot use seat belts
Oil leaking on left side turbo from turbo oil feed line. No remedy for recall, manufacturer not willing to provide alternative transportation until remedy is available. If oil leak continues, fire is likely to occur.
Component that failed: Driver-side mirror actuator on my 2019 Genesis G70 3.3T (power-folding, auto-dimming mirror). It intermittently malfunctions by tilting completely up or down without input, making it impossible to see out of the mirror while driving. Safety risk: Yes — this defect significantly compromises visibility on the driver’s side, especially when changing lanes or merging. It has nearly caused multiple accidents due to blind spot obstruction. Reproduction/confirmation: Yes — the issue was originally diagnosed and repaired under warranty by Genesis of Cumming in July 2023. The exact same issue has recurred. Genesis of Gwinnett has confirmed the mirror needs replacement but refuses coverage. Inspection: The vehicle has been inspected by multiple Genesis dealerships and was referred from Classic Collision (where mirror was replaced during accident repair). All agree the part is malfunctioning again, but Genesis Motor America has refused further assistance. Warning lamps/messages: There were no warning lights, but the failure presents physically as the mirror moving on its own without any driver input and staying locked in an unusable position until manually readjusted — sometimes repeatedly during the same drive. Assessment: This is a safety-critical failure that Genesis previously repaired under warranty and has now refused to take responsibility for. The issue affects visibility and endangers both the driver and others on the road.
The contact owns a 2019 Genesis G70. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the audiovisual navigation screen displayed a blank screen. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The failure was persistent, and the audiovisual navigation screen was peeling and distorted. The contact was willing to pay out of pocket for the repair; however, parts were not available by any vendors. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The contact stated that several complaints were filed. The contact stated that coverage for the repair was denied. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.
MY ENGINE AUTO START/STOP FEATURE. YES ITS AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION. MY SAFETY AND OTHERS WERE PUT AT RISK BECAUSE THIS AUTO STOP/START FEATURE WILL SHUT THE ENGINE DOWN COMLPETELY AND TEH SYSTEM WILLM AKE YOU DO A FULL RESTART. I'VE HAD SVEERAL EXTREME CLOSE CALLS WHEN i STOPPED AT THE LIGHT AND THIS FEATURE SHUT MY CAR DOWN COMPLETELY AND I WAS ALMOST HIT BECAUSE i WAS STUCK OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC. MY CAR IS AT THE SERVICE REPAIR NOW. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS AT ALL, AND UPON LOOKING ONLINE THERE HAS BEEN SEVERAL CARS EFFECTED BY THIS AND GENESIS CAN'T SEEM TO PINPOINT AN EXACT PROBLEM. MANY CONSUMERS HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS AND GENESIS HASN'T RESPONDED QUICKLY ENOUGH GIVEN THE SAFETY ISSUE.
As I was driving my Genesis G70 on the highway last week in heavy traffic, without any warning, the sunroof exploded. It made a very loud noise and scared the hell out of me. Luckily I maintained control of the vehicle. The sunroof was closed at the time, but the violent buffeting of the sunshade let me know that there was no longer any glass above it. It was a mild 50 degree day, with no snow or ice on the ground or on the vehicles around me. I hadn't hit a pothole or anything like that, and I hadn't driven under any overpass. Nothing came through the sunshade, other than broken glass when I opened it to confirm the failure. I was able to pull over at a rest stop in the next mile or so, and inspect the vehicle. I also took pictures of what was left of the sunroof. It was all shattered and cracked, and about half the glass, from the middle section, was gone. It must have pelted the cars behind me on the highway with glass fragments. I had to remove the remaining broken glass that I thought would likely fly off as I drove home, as well as the glass that had fallen into the interior, and put it in the trunk until I got home. I called Genesis Customer Care from the roadside and told them what had just happened. They have opened a case number, but six days later I still don't know what they plan to do about it. The day after it occurred I also called my insurance agent and my local dealer where I bought the car and told them about it. I'm waiting to find out when I can get the sunroof replaced on my daily driver, and if it will be paid for, along with the rental or loaner car that I'll need while it's in the shop. Neither the dealer or Genesis have asked to see the car or the pictures I took. After doing some research, it seems that sudden failures ("explosions") of the sunroof on Hyundai (and now Genesis) vehicles is not that uncommon. This is a dangerous failure as it could cause the driver to lose control, as well as hitting other cars on the road with glass.
Dear NHTSA, I am writing to lodge a formal complaint about significant safety issues that I have encountered with my 2019 Genesis G70 sedan. The driver and passenger seats in my car will recline but will not return to an upright position, making it impossible for either the driver or the passenger to wear a seatbelt. This issue constitutes a severe safety hazard. I brought my car to the dealership for diagnosis, and they acknowledged the problem but initially demanded a diagnostic fee of $245. The car is currently unusable due to the mentioned issue. Despite the severity of these problems, the manufacturer, Genesis, has only agreed to pay 50% of the $10,000 repair bill, citing the expiration of the warranty. I have been diligent in my vehicle maintenance, and these issues are not due to any negligence on my part. Rather, they represent severe and unacceptable manufacturing defects that pose safety risks. I am concerned that other owners might be experiencing similar problems, but these are not being reported due to the diagnostic fee imposed by Genesis. For the reasons above, I implore the NHTSA to investigate these safety issues with the 2019 Genesis G70 sedan.
I had 2 accidents in the same week. First one was Monday 2-20-2023. Leaving work heading home, I was at a red light. The light turned green and the car in front proceeded to go. As I hit the accelerator, my car ran into the back of a car full speed. Every attempt to stop car and was unsuccessful. I called to make appt at dealership to have car inspected. Before I could get to said appt at dealership, a very similar incident happened again 2 days later as I was pulling into parking lot of work. Pulling into parking spot, my car continued to accelerate into the building. Again, attempted to stop but was unsuccessful. I suffered mild concussion from hitting head on steering wheel. Air bags DID NOT deploy. No warning from car until impact happened. Was taken to hospital via ambulance for further examination.
The contact owns a 2019 Genesis G70. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH and merging into the right lane, the contact became aware that the passenger’s side sideview mirror was still locked in the closed position. The contact stated that the sideview mirror failed to retract when the vehicle was unlocked. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The dealer was contacted and stated that the vehicle needed to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 11,500.
The contact owns a 2019 Genesis G70. The contact stated that the side view mirrors failed to open intermittently, causing the contact to manually open the mirror. The vehicle had not been taken to the dealer. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 17,000
Audio visual screen freezes and changes menus without you touching it. Went to dealer and they stated they know about it and they do not have a fix .
I taken vehicle 3 times to dealer for the sunroof. When driving over ruff pavement sunroof makes clicking noises. Went this week to the dealer again and dealer stated they know about it but there is no fix. I looked in genesis forums and ggry are many complaints on the same issue.
Engine stalled when stopped at a traffic light. There was heavy traffic in front and to the rear of my vehicle. I was in the far right lane. It was 102 degrees outside. I was able to restart the vehicle about two minutes after the initial stall. I was then able to drive the vehicle to my home where it was then towed to the nearest Genesis dealer. No warning lights. Dealer stated no error codes were found and they could not duplicate the problem. After pushing for a solution they stated they will replace the fuel pump. Seems to be an ongoing, extremely dangerous problem with Genesis owners vehicles.
The sunroof spontaneously shattered while driving, around 50mph. It was about 40 degrees Fahrenheit outside. No other vehicles were in the immediate vicinity and nothing was above me at the time. Glass showered into the vehicle and onto me, along with a loud boom, comparable to a shotgun shell. This could very likely have caused an accident in other conditions or if anyone else was nearby. Though rattled, I was able to maintain control of the vehicle. The vehicle is currently at the dealership being inspected. There were no warnings prior to the occurrence.
The contact owns a 2019 Genesis G70. The contact stated while the vehicle was stationary at the residence, the contact stated that it was difficult to select gear. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact also stated while driving at 35 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact was able was to restart the vehicle and drove to his destination. Additionally, while driving 25 MPH and depressing on the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond with several unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle seized and was not drivable. The contact towed the vehicle to the local dealer however, the mechanic was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure. The vehicle was then towed to Genesis of Nashua (140 Daniel Webster Hwy, Nashua, NH 03060: (866) 436-9548) and was diagnosed with needing the transmission to be replaced. The vehicle was currently being repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 15,000.
The infotainment system, while using Apple Car Play, is operating erratically, and at its worst goes to a completely black screen that does not accept any input from the touchscreen. In order to correct this persistent issue, I am either required to switch input sources on the buttons multiple times, unplug the USB cord or perform these combined steps repeatedly to force the infotainment screen to light up. I use Apple Car play 100% of the time, as I use Waze, Google maps, Amazon Music, Itunes etc while driving. On several occasions, I have had to tinker with the device while driving, and have had the anti-collision system activate to prevent an accident. Once, I came dangerously close to rear-ending a vehicle on a dark evening while lost on an unfamiliar highway and attempting to make the infotainment screen work. It is unsafe to drive a vehicle while having to take eyes off the road to operate a system that does not operate as intended, and it is not always practical to stop on road/highway. I have reported this to the dealer twice now, and the issue is still not rectified. The replacement part (a chip/sd card?) was apparently ordered and confirmed by the dealer via text, however, apparently the dealership has changed owners and now they have no useful information in my vehicle record about this incident. The issue persists today, and the horrible service provided by Kearny Mesa Genesis is only exacerbating this issue for me personally. Please see the attached records for proof of reporting.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2019 GENESIS G70. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 21V161000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE RECALL REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT CALLED GENESIS OF CHATTANOOGA (6035 INTERNATIONAL DR, CHATTANOOGA, TN 37421, (888)314-7831) WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. CRASHED INTO MY GARAGE WALL AT SLOW SPEEDS. I PULLED INTO THE GARAGE RIDING THE BREAK PEDAL (NO ACCELERATION/GAS) AND WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP THE BREAKS SEEMED TO GIVE OUT COMPLETELY. EVEN AS I SHOVED THE BREAK PEDAL TO THE FLOOR IT SEEMED TO DO NOTHING. WHEN IT HAPPENED, I DID FEEL A BIT OF A RUMBLE ON THE BREAK PEDAL LIKE WHEN ABS TURNS ON.
I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE FOR APPROXIMATELY 20 MONTHS. DURING THIS TIME, I HAVE BEEN IN TWO MAJOR ACCIDENTS. THE FIRST INCIDENT INVOLVED AN 18 WHEELER ON A HOUSTON FREEWAY THAT SIDESWIPED THE PASSENGER SIDE FROM THE FRONT TO THE REAR RIM, WHICH EXPLODED AND I WAS TURNED THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION AND TRAVELED ACROSS 5 LANES OF TRAFFIC. APPROXIMATELY $12K IN DAMAGE WITH NO SIDE CURTAIN DEPLOYMENT. THIS WAS BROUGHT TO THEIR ATTENTION WITH NO FOLLOW-UP. THE 2ND INCIDENT WAS IN DECEMBER AND I HIT A DEER RUNNING ACROSS THE ROAD. IT WAS A SQUARE HIT WITH ME GOING FROM 65 TO 0 AND THE DEER RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE CAR. AS OF TODAY, THE DAMAGE IS ALL LOCATED IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE, AND AGAIN, NO AIR BAG DEPLOYED, WITH A TOTAL REPAIR BILL OF $13.8K. THIS TIME I CONTACTED GENESIS AS THE CAR DIDN'T SEEM SAFE. I WAS ASSIGNED A CASE MANAGER, WHO HAD THE BODY SHOP STOP ALL REPAIRS. I WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD TAKE AT LEAST 6 WEEKS BEFORE AN INVESTIGATION COULD BE COMPLETED. DURING THIS TIME, I WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR OBTAINING ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORTATION. I WASN'T EVEN OFFERED A LOANER. I HAVE NEVER MISSED A PAYMENT, EVEN AFTER BEING CHARGED FOR TWO TYPES OF WARRANTIES AND WHEN I TRIED TO USE IT, I WAS TOLD THEY DIDN'T EXIST. NO ONE HAS BEEN ABLE TO EXPLAIN THE $9K CHARGE ON THE BILL OF SALE, WHICH WAS TO BE THE CHARGE FOR THE TWO WARRANTIES. IF THE CAR'S SAFETY FEATURES DON'T WORK, I CAN NOT DRIVE THE CAR.
ON 8/8/2020 I DROVE MY GENESIS G70 SPORT INTO MY HOME GARAGE DOORS AND CENTER SUPPORT BETWEEN THE TWO DOORS. IT WAS SLOW SPEED. I WATCHED AS MY CAR CONTINUED FORWARD WITH MY FOOT HARD ON THE BRAKE WITH NO BRAKING ACTION AT ALL. IT WAS A 100% BRAKE FAILURE. I HAVE NEVER PUT ANY VEHICLE INTO ANY OTHER VEHICLE OR ANY STRUCTURE IN MY 55 YEARS OF DRIVING. I HOLD A CDL. I WAS CERTIFIED BY THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR AUTOMOTIVE SERVICE EXCELLENCE IN AUTOMOTIVE BRAKING SYSTEMS IN 1976. I WAS SELLING BMWS IN THE MID 80S WHEN BOSCH DEVELOPED ABS. I WAS SELLING ACURAS IN 1987 WHEN HONDA MADE A LAME ATTEMPT AT THEIR OWN PROPRIETARY ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM. I KNEW THE FIRST TIME I TESTED IT THAT IT WAS SUBPAR. AUTO MAGAZINES CONFIRMED THIS IN THEIR TESTS. I UNDERSTAND CARS. I HAVE NO AGENDA AGAINST HYUNDAI. MY LAST FIVE AUTO PURCHASES HAVE BEEN HYUNDAI PRODUCTS. MY GENESIS G70 IS THE FINEST CAR I HAVE EVER DRIVEN. BUT IT HAS A POTENTIALLY FATAL PRODUCT FLAW. AFTER SEVERAL DAYS OF TESTING, I DISCOVERED THE PARAMETERS NECESSARY TO ESSENTIALLY TURN OFF THE BRAKES, INTERRUPT THE FLOW OF BRAKE FLUID BETWEEN THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE BRAKE PADS. I CAN NOW DUPLICATE THIS FAILURE WITH REGULARITY. AND I DO NOT THINK MY CAR IS UNIQUE. I BELIEVE I CAN REPLICATE THIS 100% FAILURE ON ANY G70, AND I WOULD LIKE TO TRY. GENESIS KNOWS THIS, REQUESTED THAT I SEND THEM A MASS OF DOCUMENTATION FOR MY CASE #17257270, WHICH I DID ON 8/30/2020. THREE EMAILS FROM HYUNDAI CONFIRMED RECEIPT OF EVERYTHING THEY REQUESTED. NICOLETTE COMPTON WITH HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA SAID THEY WOULD SEND AN ENGINEER/TECHNICIAN TO MY HOUSE SO I COULD DEMONSTRATE THE DEFECT. SINCE THEN SHE HAS IGNORED MY PHONE CALLS AND HAS HAD NO CONTACT WITH ME EXCEPT ON 9/9/2020 AT 6:02 PACIFIC TIME WHEN SHE ACCIDENTALLY PICKED UP MY FIFTH CALL TO HER, AND SAID SHE WAS JUST ABOUT TO CALL ME. HYUNDAI IS IGNORING ME.
