NHTSA Owner Complaint Log

Engine randomly shuts off when driving for no reason. Will restart and check engine light comes on. Has now happened three times , twice to me in traffic. One of those the car went into a limp mode where it wouldn't drive above 30mph at most. This is very unsafe in the middle of highway traffic. The second happened approaching a traffic light , I put the car into neutral and luckily it restarted and check engine light came on. The third time my wife had her friends in the car and it shut off at a light , she had no idea what to do. I had her stay there and brought her our other car. I have read this is caused by a known fuse box issue. They should be made to fix this problem before someone gets seriously hurt driving in traffic.

The contact sustained cuts and abrasions on both legs and knees primarily, cuts and abrasions to the right and left arms, a large bruise on the left side of the chest, right side of chest pain, and severe pain in the right shoulder and back. In addition, the contact stated that on February 02, 2026, the vehicle was serviced for an unknown recall repair in which the driver's side air bag was replaced. The dealer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 138,000.
The contact owns a 2014 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20 MPH, the transmission shifted from 2nd gear to 3rd gear, and the vehicle shuddered before shifting. The failure also occurred while shifting from 4th gear to 5th gear. The contact ran a diagnostic scan and retrieved information for a loss of communication between the TCM and BCM. The failure was intermittent, and there was no warning light illuminated during the failure. The contact stated that the failure was associated with NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V614000 (Electrical System); however, the contact was advised by a local dealer and the manufacturer that the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 147,000.
After I put my car in park my daughter and I were still in the vehicle for a few minutes getting our things with the engine still running. I got out to get something from the back seat, my daughter got out the passenger door and made it to the driver side as I was closing the back passenger door. I was about to get back on the car to get the rest of my things and turn the ignition off but before I could my car was rolling backwards out of the driveway into the street. I was able to jump in the vehicle and put my foot on the brake and the put the gear into Park. There’s no way possible I didn’t put it in Park with me getting out already and my daughter couldn’t have accidentally shift the gear because she couldn’t have been able to get out, close the door and make it to the driver side before it started rolling away. Once I got the car stopped, I noticed the driver seat was now all the way to the steering wheel and completely to the floor with the headrest also tilting inwards and now the electrical for the seat will not work. There is a recall for this issue but my vin# is not included. I cannot even drive my car now because the seat is so far up and inclined. what if the seat moves up more while I’m driving and it has me pinned between the steering wheel and the seat. I don’t feel safe driving it, having my daughter as a passenger and it’s really not safe to be on the road. I’m still paying on this car and now i won’t even be able to drive to work. So I’ll probably lose my job. This car has multiple issues and I think is an electrical problem. It’s also a known major defect on this model but still not a recall for my vin #! None of my interior sound works. Speakers, blinkers, alerts, back up camera. The auto start won’t start, I have to press the key fob multiple times to lock and unlock. This car is extremely unsafe to drive and I strongly feel my cars vin# should be listed under the recall. Its going to really affect my daily life and means of income. Lemon!
My 2014 GMC Acadia constantly displays “Service Stabilitrak,” “Service Traction Control,” ABS, brake, and check-engine warning lights. The vehicle will not accelerate past 40 mph under normal driving. Recently, the vehicle began showing “Engine Power Reduced” randomly without any warning, and the vehicle loses power suddenly. The OBD2 code P1682 (Ignition 1 Circuit/Relay failure) appears every time. This issue has caused the vehicle to jerk, lose acceleration, and even stall in the middle of an intersection during rush-hour traffic while my children were in the car, creating a serious safety hazard. These warnings and symptoms are constant, and the power-reduction events occur unpredictably. No official inspection has been completed by the manufacturer. The failed component is still in the vehicle and available for inspection. The malfunction affects traction control, stability control, braking systems, and engine power, putting occupants and other drivers at risk.
Acadia Denali had Takata air bag inflater replaced, service air bag light is still on. Dealer stated there is a side air bag problem as well. 2014 Acadia’s had previous recall for side airbag issues, most likely is same issue the vehicle isn’t listed. Contacting corporate regarding issue.

Got onto the interstate and suddenly my car stopped but didn’t kill. My traction control light said off and then it said reduced engine power and my fuel went down to E. I couldn’t go but my car was still running. I killed it then waited a minute and started it again and it started moving slowly. Then it said service stabliltrak and traction system but since the light have went off. Around the same time I started hearing popping and crackling sounds from my speaker and now I have no interior sound at all just popping sounds no matter if my car is started or not. I’m scared it’s going to catch on fire or something
Gas gauge is incorrect. When I put fuel in the tank within min gauge drops to empty. Car sputters when idling. Car stalled 10x or more. Fuel pump has been replaced. Fuel pump module has been replaced. Did not fix the problem.
Received a safety recall and called Greg Lair GMC to schedule repair. Service guy told me the part is backorder. Called first of June and dealer still says part backorder. Letter said the parts were available. Is the dealership just not wanting to comply with this recall?

I received a letter in 2022 regarding an airbag defect in my 2014 GMC Acadia which stated that they would call me when it is my turn to replace it. They airbag light or notification did not appear until 2024 which I called GMC to report it and schedule an service appointment. I was told that there was "NO DEFECT OR RECALL FOR AIRBAGS IN MY MODEL CAR" even after I explained the letter. I was then told I would have to pay 350 for it to be diagnosed then an additional costs for servicing. We continued to drive it as we do not have other options in HI. The airbag service light reappeared on [XXX] for 2 days and we are concerned why, where, how and who will take our complaint/life seriously? 2014 GMC Acadia Denali When accelerating the car is sputtering and slipping. The RPMs are increased. There is a delay in shifting and it is rough. The car jerks and has a pause when accelerating. This is an expensive repair. Is GMC going to help or make it a recall? My local mechanic suggests it gets repaired as soon as possible or sell it - am not comfortable selling it with a bad issue. Unsafe. GMC needs to correct this. GMC - do your part and make this right for your customers. I read many complaints regarding this issue. How many complaints does it take before GMC will make a recall on this issue? I also have a recall on the airbag. I have been having an issue with the light on for 2 years and called many times on it. Last year they said there was no active recall. I see now that there is one. I called and was told that I should have received a letter. I never received a letter of the official recall and the repair is covered. I am now waiting 4-8 weeks for the dealer to get the part in and for them to then call me to schedule an appointment. Why do they not have them in stock? I have been scared every time I drive my 2014 GMC Acadia knowing at any point the airbag could go off at any moment or if I was in an accident it may not inflate to save me. This is terrifying as a driver. Especially knowing that serious injury or death can happen. I hope GMC is going to do the right thing and make the transmission issue a recall and have parts on hand at dealers to get repairs fixed. What is GMC going to offer me and other customers to help pay for this serious issue to be fixed? As well as, pay for a rental car while waiting to get the issues resolved.
The driver's side door cracking away from the frame. My safe was put at risk due to the potential of the door falling off. It's a known problem for GMC vehicles. Yes the vehicle was inspected by a body shop. No warning or message came up.

Fuel gauge is incorrect. It says I went 20 miles when I only went two. Then when car is in park the gauge goes back up but when moving the gauge goes down quickly. This had caused me to run out of Gas when I shouldn’t have and it’s adding miles to my odometer that I never went or it’s fluctuating and that’s faulty. I have called GM multiple times and the local dealership. GM Motors has airbags and are currenlty fixing vehicles and has not included my vehicle in any current priority group. The local dealer tried to get my vehicle included in this current round and was denied despite my vehicle being in Louisiana where it is very hot and humid. Both of these are risk factors causing the explosion of the inflator. I am disabled and my family needs my vehicle to take me to appointments because we bring my walker and O2 tank and now I have a $54,000 vehicle that they are all too afraid to drive. My daughter is short and has to sit right at the steering wheel. There are newer vehicles than mine on the priority list. This is ridiculous and dangerous. See priority list below.

I want to register a complaint regarding Safety recall N232404980. I was notified on June 23rd 2023 that my vehicle was included in this recall. It's now more than 1 year later and the recall is still incomplete. I've made several attempts to have the recall addressed including scheduling a service appt on Aug 12th 2024 (at Fox Chevrolet in Caledonia MI). While at this appointment I was told directly that they had the parts but couldn't do the repair because my vehicle status is "Incomplete. Remedy not available". I also contacted GM customer service under their ticket number [XXX]. My understanding is that if the inflator is defective that shrapnel can be thrown in the drivers face in a collision where the airbag deploys. This could cause injury or death. It's not reasonable to expect a safety system to injure you nor is it reasonable to expect someone to park the vehicle for more than a year. GMC should, at a minimum, offer to disable the drivers side airbag until a remedy is available. I realize there are almost 1 million vehicles involved in this recall and in April of 2024 only 3500 vehicles had been remedied. At this rate it will take about 140 years for GMC to address this issue. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Almost 1 million affected vehicles and a year after they issued the recall there is still no remedy to a airbag that can send metal shrapnel into the driver and occupants
