The contact owns a 2019 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while attempting to shift to park(P), the message to “Shift to Park” was displayed. The contact shifted from park to neutral and back to park until the proper gear was recognized. The local dealer was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Yes, my vehicle is available for inspection upon request. When I go to put my 2019 GMC Acadia in "park" the shifter states it is in park & the dashboard shows it in "P." However, when I turn the vehicle off, an error message comes up reading "shift to park" and my car wont fully shut off. You can feel the car move forward or backwards a tiny bit (depending where vehicle is parked). This makes me have to turn the vehicle back on, shift into "drive," back into "park," and then shut the engine off and pray the "shift to park" display doesn't come up. This process was repeated this morning when I arrived at Walmart 3x before it finally shut off, then when I got home it happened at least 8x before I could safely leave my car in my garage without the worry of it not truly being in park. This has gotten to the point I have bought wheel chalks to put around my car tires because I am afraid this vehicle could roll down my driveway into my neighbor's house or kill some kid playing in our culdesac. I let the last place I was at know & they told me GMC was aware of the issue, but that there was no way to fix it (Auto Revival in Justin, TX). I am unsure as to whether this issue happened for them or not, as nothing was mentioned after being told GMC is aware. That was on January 10th, 2024. No one else has looked at it besides that. It seemed to be occurring less frequently for several months, and then now it is the worst it has ever been.
Driver side blind spot not longer works. When driving the blind spot indicator just stopped working a month ago and I didn't take notice until I almost hit another car. I contacted gmc about this issue as well and was also told there isn't any recall for this and it would have to be diagnosed by there mechanics. There were no other issues prior to this. Also the "shift to park" warning has been popping up for 3 days now when my car is in park. My car won't complete shut everything off until that warning is turned off. I called GMC of puyallup and was told only certain vin qualifies for the recall for the gmc 2019 acadia. That's absolutely ridiculous! I can't exit my vehicle until the car senor knows my vehicle is in park which is a major concern and safety issue because my home is on a slope.
My GMC is in the repair shop for the alert (shift to park). I was once again unable to turn off my car and place it safety in park. This is a known issue and GMC Dothan states the 2019 GMC Acadia with my vin number is not on recall?? This is a know dangerous safely issue.
My car will be in park and it always says shift to park when its in park , this is very unsafe. Also when I change gears from park to drive or reverse the RPM revs up gets stuck then drops quick causing the hesitation and then kicks in.

The contact owns a 2019 GMC Acadia. The contact stated upon attempting to turn off the vehicle, the instrument panel remained operable with the message "Shift to Park" displayed while the gear shifter was already in park(P). The contact shifted out of park(P) and shifted back to park(P) several times until the vehicle responded as needed. The contact stated that the failure recurred, and the vehicle failed to successfully turn off after several attempts, causing the battery to become drained. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.
Shift to park message when vehicle is in park not allowing vehicle to be shut off
When I shift the car into park, a message pop up in the window to shift the car in park and keeps beeping. I can’t turn the car off and will have to restart the car and pull forward a little then try again sometimes that does not work. The light indicator says the car is in park but I can’t turn the car off.
Code 0128 coolant temperature sensor failure triggered reduced lane departure assist
I have a 2019 GMC Acadia with 59051 miles on it, I get regularly oil changes and maintenance but it’s need a transmission. How is this? The mechanic tells me that there is no ETA when one will be available when he called to get one. This lets me know that there is a problem with the transmission and they probably should have a recall.
I randomly get a "shift to park" warning even though the vehicle is in park. It looks like there has been this same issue with older years but not my vehicle according to the VIN.
Our car has the well know shift to park issue but shiws no recall. Is it possible GM might fix this defect?
The transmission keeps slipping, clunking, and not shifting correctly. Not shifting or down shifting correctly up and down hold or at stops. My husband is a trained mechanic and has confirmed through his place of employment that the transmission is failing. It hasn’t no yet been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance. No warning lamps, but the transmission temp rises to 270F+ In regards to the next question.. the issue is ongoing.
I’ve taken my car to the dealership twice for transmission issues. One time the engine/transmission light came on, they kept it for a month and told me they didn’t find anything. Wrong. 2 months later I took it back because it felt like it wouldn’t change out of gears and felt lint the transmission was slipping, they told me they me since it wasn’t a light on they couldn’t check it without a code. I then had to take it to another dealership because a code came back on and they said it was something. Four months later my transmission went out while I was driving down the hwy. I have a 2019 gmc Acadia. I had the same similar codes on 3 different occasions.

When put in park it dings for a long time shift to park. I have read that this is an issue there has been recalls but mine is not on recall. However this does this like every other time I use it . I’m worried I will be left stranded with dead battery
Unknown 3rd brake light leaking water inside. Health Concern due to mold.
The contact owns a 2019 GMC Acadia. The contact stated while driving at various speeds and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle was shuddering. The failure occurred while depressing the accelerator pedal. No warning light illuminated. The contact inspected the vehicle, replaced the transmission fluid, and added a protective additive as a temporary repair for the shuddering. The local dealer was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Upon further investigation, the contact related the failure to an unknown NHTSA Campaign related to the failure; however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
“Park to shift “ warning keeps showing up when shift the gear to PARK.
The part broke on my vehicle. Part is on national backorder. I'm expected to be without a vehicle til mid December. I was told no one in the state of Louisiana has the part. This has to be affecting a lot of vehicles if this is true. I love my GMC and I hope they make this right. Radiator surge tank inlet hose is the GM part.
When DRIVING the center console screen begins to glitch. It will begin to move around and try to connect to the internet, begin to track navigation, connect to my phone and make calls, or it will just started moving back and forth from the different screens. It also makes sounds while it is glitching. It's incredibly distracting when I am trying to drive. There are a number of online forums that have identified the problem in their same year, make, and model of vehicle. There were no warnings or messages prior to the problem. It presented itself about a year ago and I have just been resetting the battery as a temporary solution.

The "Shift to Park" error warning comes on even though the vehicle is in park. The vehicle will not turn off. I had this issue with my 2017 GMC Acadia. They tried to fix it once, but it came back. I see in the 2019 version that they have added an audible dinging to the warning. I would have thought after at least 2 years they would have resolved this issue. They just made it more annoying by adding the dinging.
The contact owns a 2019 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that upon arriving at her destination and moving the shifter into the park position, the vehicle failed to recognize that the vehicle was in park. After which, a message displayed reading "Please Shift to Park". The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 93,000.
I would park my car and try to turn off car. The car would not turn off. The car continued to ding the car remained on. The safety issue is the car wouldn't turn off. After many many times shifting from park to drive it would finally park, this happened every time using the car. I discovered the same exact issue is a recall on 2017 & 2018 GMC Acadia our exact car ! Called the dealer explaining SHIFT TO PARK issue. Brought the car to Buick GMC of Mahwah they noted in fact it was SHIFT TO PARK issue. Two days later came in for the car they would not cover problem. Cost $950.00 for exact recall the 2 years prior. Also, contacted GMC corp. they were no help just said had no recall. Our car is 2019 Acadia with 27,236 miles.
The Shift to Park feature malfunctions. Although my car is in Park it does not recognize it, gives me a 'Shift to Park' message and won't allow me to shut off the car. My car not correctly recognizing what gear it's in is a significant danger. This problem was a recall in 2017-2018 GMC Acadias but my car produced the same issue and was not recalled. The component was replaced by an IG Burton dealer. There were no other warning messages prior to the issue occuring.
When putting vehicle in park, it doesn’t always sense it is in park. Will sometimes have to move it back and forth for a couple of minutes.
After roughly 7000 miles of use the 235/55R20 102V Goodyear Assurance Weatherready tire has a bulge in the sidewall. There are no scuffs or scars on the tire to indicate an impact caused the bulge, it appears there is some sort of separation within the layers of the sidewall. I asked a Goodyear retailer to inspect the tire and they said it's automatically considered impact damage if the bulge is in the sidewall and Goodyear would not warrant such damage even though there is no evidence such as cuts, scuffs or scars. The tire inflation is to manufacturer's specifications and the tire isn't loosing pressure. DOT 1M78AJA5R purchased Oct 22, 2023 date code 3622
As previously reported by other owners of a 2017, 2018, 2019 Acadia- the “shift to park” message appears once I have put my car in park and turned it off. I have to restart my car, move the shifter to reverse, back up a tad bit, and put it back in park for the message to go away so I am able to turn my car off.
Purchased this vehicle with 49,000 miles on it. Currently, it has 55,000. When I shift the car into park and turn it off. I am met with a consistent ding and error messages displaying “Shift to Park.” With this error message I am unable to fully turn my car off, it drains the battery and I cannot lock my car door. I have to turn the car back on and mess with the shifter which sometime takes a longtime. I cannot just leave my car on and drain the other components; it’s frustrating. I called my local GMC dealer. I told them about the current issues with these cars as it isn’t a secret that this is a common problem. I pointed out the TBS on this make and model and I’m expected to pay for this out of pocket because my powertrain warranty ended June 30th 2024.
Last week I parked in a large public parking lot and attempted to turn my car off. I received a notification in my dash to “shift to park” even though my car was already in park. I was unable to turn the car off or lock the doors. I ended up having to leave. I have now gotten this message six times in the past week. It can take up to twenty minutes to get the car to turn off so I can exit. Yesterday upon returning to the car I showed an error message as soon as I started it that the parking brake needed service, stabilitrak is disabled and steering assist is disabled- drive with care. As I tried to exit the parking lot, I found it almost impossible to turn the steering week. I pulled over and restarted the car, releasing the steering wheel so I could get home. This morning, all of the service lights were on and periodic warnings flashed on my dash throughout my drive to work. I contacted the dealership and was told that there is a recall for this exact issue on the 2015-2018 models of my car. I have a 2019. This is certainly a dangerous issue that should be proactively fixed and is clearly still present in years that are not being included in the recall. I was told my car was one month past its warranty and told I could pay 250$ for the issue to be assessed and then they could quote me on a fix. The dealership acknowledged that this is an issue they regularly fix.
Shift to park sign appears and doesn’t disappear until I turn and off the car multiple times. It’s been retuning problem for the past two months.
When I shifted to Park and hit the button to turn the car off, it continuously chimed and flashed the Shift to Park message on the dashboard. It would not allow me to fully turn off the car, stating I was not in Park, even though I was. I would have to turn the car back on, shift into drive or reverse, move forward or backward a little bit, hit the brake a few times, put it back to Park, hit the button, and hope it would turn off. It usually took four or five times of this routine before it would finally turn off correctly. It began happening more and more frequently over the course of a week by the time I could get it into the dealer. This is a safety issue, as the car was not fully in Park, and leaving it that way would have drained the battery as well as not allowed me to lock the doors while parked in my driveway. Thankfully, I have an extended warranty (car has 55,000 miles) and only had to pay my $200 deductible, but it was an over $500 fix. As this EXACT SAME issue is prevalent in these cars and was recalled on my same model in previous years, I feel the recall should be extended and these expenditures reimbursed.
The contact owns a 2019 GMC Acadia. The contact stated after shifting to park(P) and attempting to turn off the vehicle, the message "Shift to Park" was displayed. The contact stated that upon shifting out of park(P) and shifting to park(P) several times, the vehicle responded as needed. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the "Shift to Park" switch had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer provided an estimate for the repair; however, the vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to an unknown recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000. The VIN was not available.
My car will not shut off as I am parked and “shift to park” is alerting me. The car keeps beeping. I have to re-start it multiple times and shift it in and out of park for it to finally go off. This last time it took 25 min to shut my car off.
The check engine light came on 12/2023. The vehicle was taken to Pep Boys and AutoZone in MD, WalMart and O'Rilley in Bastrop, LA, O'Rilley in Midlothian, TX. They could not find any problems with the vehicle. I took the vehicle to GMC in Plano, TX. THey charged me for a new battery but the check engine light remained on after I picked up the vehicle with a newly installed battery. The dealership said it would eventually go off. I took the car to Automotive Solutions in September 2024 and they can not find anything wrong with the vehicle. The car can not pass Texas inspection with a check engine light on. There is a large group on FB having this same problem. August 2024 the car will recognize when it is shifted into park. Sometimes it rolls after puting the car in park.I took the car to Automotive Soulutions in September 2024 and they can not find anything wrong with the vehicle. There is a large group on FB having this same problem. I took the car into a GMC dealership in MA because i hit a curb in 2021. The steering wheel feels loose. I took the car in 2022 & 2023 for the same problem. The dealership charges me for repairs but there is a reoccurring steering problem. Other drivers have noticed this problem with my vehicle.
Our 2019 was repaired back in 2021 for a "shift to park" issue. This same issue is happening again after 2 years of being repaired. We see that there is a major issue with GMC vehicles and there have been recalls for this same exact issue. GMC Coleman, Lawrence NJ is refusing to fix problem under a recall. We would like this to be covered or reimbursed.
The contact owns a 2019 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while parking the vehicle, the gear shifter was shifted into park(P); however, the “Action Required Shift to Park” message was displayed. The contact shifted the gear shifter back and forth and then shifted into park(P) before the proper gear was recognized. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2019 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while shifting to park and turning off the vehicle, the message “Shift to Park” was displayed. The parking brake failed to engage as needed. The contact continued to depress the brake pedal, and after ten minutes, the vehicle shut off. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed, and it was recommended that the shifter assembly be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and filed a case. The failure mileage was approximately 59,000.
When vehicle is shifted to park, the “Shift to Park” warning illuminates and the vehicle is unable to shut off. Have to play around with the gear selector for several minutes in order to be able to be shut off. Looks like GM has known about it for a while and has done nothing. Has been occurring on ours for about a year now.
When shifting into "park", the vehicle displays a warning that vehicle failed to shift into park. Thr vehicle will not shut off and continues to run
When attempting to park vehicle, the alert "Shift to Park" populates and the car will not completely shut down. This happens sporadically and can take up to 15 minutes to get vehicle in the right position to completely park and shut off. If it's not in the proper park position, the car can continue running, battery drainage and possible roll out of place. This also causes issues with the transmission not shutting off. I have not had this particular vehicle inspected, but contact with dealer service departments confirms continued complaints of this issue and it has not been addressed by GMC/General Motors. Problem has been occurring at various times over last 3 years.
My radio is going crazy. Like going through every radio station, calls people. Its a distraction. And after researching how to fix I noticed thousands of people have the same problem. Almost cause an accident because of the distraction and this is obvious problem in GMC.
When shifting to park and turning car off I get notification saying “shift to park” even when the car shows it is parked on the gear shift and dashboard screen.
During a routine oil and filter change the technician noted that the "rear tow links are excessive play in them." Several GMC vehicles have had numerous recalls to tow links over the years. Dealership suggested the repair and confirmed services were not covered under warranty. After further research into the repair there are countless forums and complaints about GMC vehicles needing tow link replacement. Photos of the original tow links show minimal wear and tear.
My 2019 GMC Acadia with 33,000 miles on it started to give me a notification to "Shift to Park" even though I had already shifted the vehicle into park. A "ding! ding! ding!" alarm wouldn't go off and the vehicle wouldn't turn off unless I repeatedly changed the gears until it read it was in park. This went on for a few weeks and got progressively worse. I read on a GMC forum that the vehicle could slip out of gear while driving and potentially cause an accident. My mechanic found the shifter assembly to be defective and replaced the entire Gearshift Lever Assembly. He said there was a plastic piece in the gearshift that snapped off and said this was an issue in the older models but thought GMC had fixed this issue by 2019. Unfortunately, I was past my 3 year / 36K mile warranty and had to fork over $1300 to have it repaired.
See attached document for complaint.
