Backup camera stays on while driving forward
the 2019 GMC Acacia with 54,000 has begun to not recognize when the car has been shifted into Park. Front dash reports shows it is in "P" but upon attempting to turn-off the car, Warning Message comes on to "Shift to Park". The car is not in park and will roll. I need to restart car, reverse and go-forward once or twice to finally be able to turn-off the car with it in Park.
When attempting to Shift To Park, the Power Train does not respond, an error message is displayed, and am unable to turn off the ignition or park the vehicle. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE.
The contact owns a 2019 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that upon shifting to park(P), the vehicle made an abnormal beeping sound that persisted after turning off the vehicle. The message "Shift to Park" was displayed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where an unknown harness and switch were replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a related recall. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 39,886.
The contact owns a 2019 GMC Acadia. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, she noticed that the engine caught on fire with no warning light illuminated. The fire was put out by the Chicago Fire Department and after the vehicle was inspected the cause of the fire was determined as a failure with the electrical system. A police report was filed with the Chicago Police Department and a report was provided. No injuries occurred and no medical attention was needed. The vehicle was not towed. The dealer was contacted, and the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.

The vehicle was repaired. The manufacture was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 22,000.
My coolant thermostat went out, causing my AC and steering assist to stop working. I have spoke to multiple other people who have had this same issue with their GMC Acadia and I believe this should be a recall. It’s going to cost me $1200 to have this issue resolved.
See attached document for complaint.
The contact's wife owns a 2019 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while parking the vehicle on several occasions, the park gear was not recognized. The vehicle was restarted and shifted from neutral to park several times before the gear was recognized. On one occasion while parking on a slight incline, the vehicle was restarted and shifted from neutral to ark several times before the gear was recognized and the vehicle rolled backwards. The brake pedal was depressed several times before the vehicle came to a stop. Additionally, the contact observed a warning chime and the “Shift to Park” message was displayed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The vehicle will be in park, and a message will pop up saying "shift to Park check and advise". Took my car into the dealer shop to get this fixed their response was the cause of the condition may be that the park switch in the transmission control (shifter) assembly is not pulling the BCM signal low to electronically show that the vehicle is in the park position.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The Infotainment system continuously changes screens without being touched. No matter what screen is displayed, it will change on it's own to various other screens. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? While I was driving I was using my GPS via CarPlay and the directions were displayed on the Infotainment screen. The screen started changing to other screens and at one point changed to the back up camera. I was almost in an accident because I was unable to see the directions and frightened and confused when the back up camera appeared while I was going forward on the highway. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, I took the car to the dealership while it was still under warranty and they told me it was due to me using CarPlay and that my iPhone just needed to be updated. I updated my phone and the problem never went away. So now I've stopped using CarPlay and the problem is still occurring. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Only the dealership. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No warnings. The problem first appeared in late 2020 early 2021. I have a video recording of the issue as well. Also when I Google the issue lots of other owners are complaining of the same issue.
I am receiving a "Shift to Park" notification on most instances that I shift the car into park. When this warning engages, the car will not allow me to turn it off as it does not recognize that it is in park. After researching this issue, I found that there is a GM Recall for 2017-2019 GMC Acadias for this very issue. However, my VIN is not included in the recall so I do not qualify to have the issue fixed and would have to pay a substantial amount out of pocket.
Vehicle placed in the park position on several occasions, but indication from monitoring system shows not in park position, vehicle rocks back and forward when foot taken off brake pedal. indicator requiring me to remove shifter from park and place back in park several times before indicator acknowledge vehicle in park. Transmission jerks and stalls when initial drive train mobolized and leaking fluid from transmission. Dealer never acknowledge issue after several visits, was told at last visit after over two years of complaining that seal was bad in transmission. Approximate dates of incident is over a 2 year span.
The contact owns a 2019 GMC Acadia. The contact stated after parking and turning off the vehicle, an alarm sounded and the message "Shift to Park" was displayed. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring. The contact stated that on several occasions, the failure required that the vehicle be turned off and restarted to remedy the issues. Additionally, the contact continuously shifted to park(P) until the vehicle responded as needed. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 62,000.
The contact owns a 2019 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while the vehicle was in park with the engine running, the vehicle suddenly rolled away. As a result of the failure, the vehicle crashed into another parked vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. No warning lights were illuminated. A police report was not filed. There were no injuries reported. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that the vehicle was operating as intended. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 42,000.
My car is saying it’s not in park when it is in park.
Purchased a 2019 arcadia 1st owner the transmission crashed at 30461 miles. the transmission started slipping, parked it and took it to the shop. there were no warning lamps... the Chevrolet dealer diagnosed the issue, metal flakes all in the sample of transmission fluid ( replacement required) I have reached out to GM customer service and now waiting for a reply but there is a recall on the year and model of my vehicle. My VIN# is not included, the recall is vin specific but i am having the same transmission issues as other owners in the recall. the vehicle is available for inspection
I do not have current recall on my vehicle, but my vehicle is experiencing the "Shift to Park" issue that many of the same year make and model mine is experiencing. I am unsure why my vehicle would not have one. It is messing up the transmission and I have only had this vehicle for a year from a dealership. I feel it is unsafe to drive as the vehicle does not always register that it is in park. I can feel the transmission slipping because of this. I would really appreciate some support for this. It is a 2019 GMC Acadia, which is also apart of the other vehicles that are apart of a lawsuit in Ohio and other states. This is a safety hazard for myself and my family.
When I put my car in park and try to turn it off, the dash shows an error message "SHIFT TO PARK". The car will either not turn off the ignition or allow me to leave the vehicle or lock/unlock the doors. It alarms incessently--even when trying to move the shifter around. Takes several times of restarting and shifting to get it to clear so I can put it into park and exit the vehicle. Local dealer is charging me over $2000 to repair the transmission control shifter assembly; BCM low signal; in-line shifter wire harness jumper--exactly one month after my warranty expired. It's a KNOWN Acadia (and other GM vehicle) issue--per several bulletins--NA-19-206 as an example.
When I park my car and go to turn it off, it says "Shift to park". The dash indicates that it is in park and it will not allow me to turn the ignition off or lock the doors.
Car will read error code for driver assist is reduced. Which then will shut down AC and thermostat will be locked at cold. This is a known issue with gmc if you look at the forums. Should be looked into. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Shift to park will not work. Sometime after 20 try’s it may work once but I have to disconnect the battery to turn off the car. I’m beside myself and cannot keep doing this. This is a real safety problem. I have children in my car and Gm says there is no recall and I am expected to pay 800.00 and then it is not guaranteed.
After raining door locks on every door will not work. Won't lock or unlock, manually or by using the key fob. Something seems to be getting damp and shorting out . After a day or 2 the locks will work just fine when everything dries out.Seems to be a safety issue if I can't exit the vehicle. The rear hatch is the only door that works when this happens. What is the problem and the solution? This happens every time it rains. Had it to the dealer and they couldn't find the problem.
My vehicle just hit 39K miles, it has all of a sudden started giving me a Shift Into Park warning. The sensor is not registering that its in park and will not let you turn car off. There is a recall on the 2017-2018 vehicles for this issue and but many report an issue with the 2019, when I called GMC they would not fix. How to we go about having this included in the recalls?
it ask to shift to park while already in the park position
Shift to park issue. Car will not go into park. Car will not shut off. Sometimes shifting back and forth or jiggling the shifter will work. Dealer replaced shifter assembly at a cost to me of $777. This was done last week. So far so good, but GMC knew about this problem for quite a while.
Shift to park malfunction. When I put car in park, “shift to park” lights up and beeps. I have to wiggle the gear shift up a bit to get it to go off. Takes several minutes at times. This started about 4 days ago. I have an appointment at the dealership tomorrow. 68,300 miles on my vehicle. When I researched, several others complained about the Acadia’s shift to park malfunction.
In August 2021, I placed my vehicle in park and pressed the vehicle on/off button and received a message on the dashboard that stated "Shift to Park", even though the vehicle was in the off position. I was unable to turn my vehicle completely off (remained in auxiliary mode) and unable to lock the vehicle. I took my vehicle to a Chevrolet dealer who notated the issue was inspected and verified with a repair procedure under TSB 19-NA-206. The service record reads "This condition is caused by the park switch in the transmission control not pulling BCM signal low to electronically show part position. Removed and reinstalled transmission control, installed new shifter harness and added wire harness jumper". In February 2024, the repairs completed by the dealer failed again, and this time the entire shifter (transmission control) needed to be replaced. The TSB that GM has put forth does not "fix" the issue, just puts a temporary band-aid on the problem until the vehicle is out of warranty and the customer is forced to pay for the repairs themselves. Without the vehicle registering it is park, the vehicle stays active and the customer is unable to lock or secure the vehicle, putting the safety of the customer at risk. It is also unknown if the vehicle is actually in park, putting those around the vehicle in danger of getting run over.
Engine consuming extra oil due to failed piston ring. Also, may be the cause of a coolant failure code. Burning through excessive oil and check engine light came on. Also, prior to these warnings, I've felt hesitation when accelerating and when the car changes gears. I was told by a shop that I need a new engine. This causes a dangerous situation because the car could just stop working while driving or in traffic.
Transmission flares going into and out of second gear cause to vehicle to feel as if its about stall out. Especially on hills. I had a vehicle almost run in to the back of me because of the decrease in acceleration.
My 2019 GMC Acacia SLT would not go into park to allow me to shut off my vehicle. It ran for over an hour before it finally went into park. This was dangerous as I had a young child to pick up in a busy part of town and I had to leave it running to try to get help. With a 3 year old child this was crazy. This is not the first time it has done this. My car had a recall and whomever fixed it didn’t do it. I feel this needs to be fixed properly now.
I would put my car in park but it would not let me turn the engine off, I would put it back in drive and then park again but it wouldn’t let me turn the engine off. I displayed a message that I needed to put the car in park. I repeated the process and then later it would let me turn the engine off. This happened several times. I took it to my car dealer and they fixed the problem but I had to pay for the repair. They said if there was a recall, they would refund my money. I saw where this same problem was a recall for my vehicle up to 2018. My car is a 2019.
Shift to Park - car will not turn off after putting in park. Car is still running after several attempts of hitting the power button to turn off. I have had to replace the battery twice in the same year. I have brought this issue to the dealership from the beginning of purchase and was unsuccessful.
I am having trouble with my 2019 GMC Acadia. I keep getting a message that says shift to park. How many I get this repaired at no charge?
When the vehicle is in park and you try to turn it off with the start/stop button an on dash error code of ‘Shift to Park’ appears even though the vehicle is clearly in park. You are not able to turn the vehicle off. I am scheduled to take the vehicle in for service on 1/11/24. This currently is forcing me to restart the engine, put my car in reverse, shift back in drive, try re-parking and turning it off again, repeating the process until it eventually turns off. I do not know if my car is truly in gear or not. I’m afraid that it might cause a dangerous situation.
The contact owns a 2019 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the shift to park message was displayed. There was a constant abnormal dinging sound detected, and the vehicle failed to remain in park. While having a routine inspection, it was determined that the rear trailing arms bushings were worn out and the vehicle failed the inspection. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that the failure was like NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V516000 (Power Train). The contact called the local dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

I owned a 2019 GMC Acadia Denali with surround vision system (rear camera). In December 2023, my rear camera went out and almost caused me to hit someone while backing up. I don't totally depend on the rear camera when backing, but this time when I turned around to look if anything was behind me I didn't see no one. I took my vehicle to the dealer to get it checked out and to repair it. They found that the vision process module was bad. The technician found that the vpm had internal malfunction and corrosion due to water intrusion damaging vpm completely. found code B101D for internal failure and not responding to any programming or commands. Replaced vision processing module at a cost of $1348.90. I wrote to GM explaining the problem and request reimbursement. As of today, no response from GM. The vehicle part involved is the right rear suspension adjust toe link. I did not ask the GM dealer to save the old part. The old part is not available for inspection. The replacement GM part number placed on the vehicle is 84606181. On December 4, 2023 during the annual State inspection of my vehicle the GM dealer advised me that the right rear suspension part listed above showed wear in the bushing and the vehicle fails the state inspection because this is a safety issue. In order to pass the state required safety inspection I would need to have the suspension part replaced. This part controls how the vehicle tracks down the road when driven to prevent vehicle swaying from side to side. Since the GM dealer inspected and confirmed the above I authorized the dealer to replace the worn out part and also perform a wheel alignment as recomended by the GM dealer. Prior to the info provided above their were no warnings, noises, or signs that the right rear toe link bushing was warn to the extent that it required replacement. This first notice I had on the potential problem with my vehicles suspension is described above. I was advised that the above part is a common part that requires replacement on my type of vehicle.
Shift to Park car would not turn off. Had to start car, then go forward and reverse several time so the vehicle would finally recognize it was in park. - this has been going on for almost one year on and off. “Steering Assist is Reduced Drive with Care” making it hard to steer. The get Service “Stabilitrak”, “Side Detection Temporarily Unavailable”, All Wheel Drive Off, “Battery Saver Activated”, Services “Battery Charging System.” All lights went out and the car went dark! I was unable to drive the car, had to be towed. - this has happens twice. The first time was on October 2023, the mechanic put in a new alternator, thinking this was the problem. The second time happened 11/29/2023, mechanic is still trying to diagnose the problem/problems. This car has left me stranded and in fear to drive it due to the fact that I lose all vehicle driving ability!! It
Vehicle does not know it's in park. Can't turn off vehicle. Must shake or beat the shifter knob for vehicle to see it's in park.
After noticing my AC was not cooling, I began receiving a “steering assist is reduced drive with care” notice every time my car was started. My car is more difficult to steer. It has been assessed by a certified mechanic and found that the coolant temperature probe is malfunctioning and the ECM will either need to be fixed or replaced. Due to malfunctioning power steering, I do not feel safe driving this vehicle until it is fixed.
I placed the car into Park and the Shift to Park indicator light came on even though the car was in park. I was unable to turn the car off. I had to shift the car in and out of gear and sometimes drive the vehicle to finally get Shift to Light off and be able to turn off the car. This happened 3 times within one week. I read of numerous instances on-line where this same condition occurred in other GM vehicles. I took to Joseph GMC for repair and was charged $855.12 for repair since the car was out of warranty. (The car only had 28,058 at time of service.)
"shift to park" warning message. Unable to shut vehicle off or leave vehicle. Shifter is in the Park position but vehicle does not recognize it is in Park and will not shut off. Vehicle has never been in an accident. No residual code. Dealer will assess but not covered under any existing warranty or recall. Out of pocket expense. TSB 18-NA-297; replaced by 19-NA-206.
The touch Display screen. It has started to constantly go through every setting on the car while driving. I’ve tried turning the screen off. It works for a few minutes and then turns itself back on. It will change radio stations. It will make phone calls if a phone is detected. It is a constant distraction while driving GMC is obviously aware of the problem. You can call a service center. They will tell you that it happens all the time and that the part will cost you around 800$ not including service charges. With how many people depend on display screens in today’s technological ways. It’s only a matter of time before a serious accident occurs from this, if not already that hasn’t been reported. Also this affects more than just my vehicle. It’s across most of GMC models. Several public forums related to this issue.
The contact owns a 2019 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that while turning off the vehicle, the shift-to-park message was displayed. There was an abnormal beeping sound heard. The contact restarted the vehicle and moved forward or reverse. The vehicle failed to shift into the park. The contact continued to shift the gear shifter. The contact stated that the engine revved. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 32,000.
Headlights are so dim that we will not drive the car at night. Dealer's service manager says that he knows about the problem but "there's nothing I can do to fix it". I see a few similar complaints on this site, but nothing as to who to contact to get the problem solved NOR any action on this on the part of the NHSTA. Where do we go from here?
The contact owns a 2019 GMC Acadia. The contact stated that after parking the vehicle and shifting to park(P), the message "Shift to Park(P)" was erroneously displayed, and the vehicle could not be turned off. After several attempts, the contact was able to turn off the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who diagnosed that the shifter cable bushing was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The local dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
On 9/24/23, I was driving both locally & the highway in S. I., NY. Suddenly the Adaptive Cruise Control feature shut off & on repeatedly & kept flashing (Adaptive Cruise Control unavailable) almost causing an accident, then I pulled over and shut off the system. The next day on (9/25/23) I brought the car to GMC & Buick Dealership at 1855 Hylan Blvd, S.I. N.Y. 10306. After a couple of hours, the manager Carlos Mercado tells me they need to do further testing tells me to come back on 10/04/23. I arrive at 9:00am for my appt. After three hours, I asked him what’s going on? He tells me that there are two Modular’s in the vehicle & needs to be reprogramed & updated. He says the mechanic that was working on it can’t do it & to come back. I knew at that point I was being scammed. On 10/11/23 at 10:15am he comes & tells me the vehicle is ready. I go to the register tells me at first was $671.00. I said for what? It’s outrageous! He says oh it’s electrical. I asked him did you replace any parts? He says no. replace any wires? He says no. I said if this was a recall I wouldn’t pay for it because its a safety issue. So he must have felt guilty and says I give you a discount & the price now is $555.56. So I says to him this is a lot of money for this. He tells me it was labor. I said to him I have been watching the whole time that the vehicle would sometimes be in the service area & the parking lot with the mechanic hardly working on it. I said to him do you think I’m a fool because I’m a woman unaccompanied by a man you take advantage of me. So they would not release the car unless I pay for it which I did with a credit card. On 10/12/23, I filed a complained with GM for a full refund, and explained that the program was faulty & only need an update and I was contacted by Charlie from the Executive team on 10/17/23. Tells me he will reach out to the dealer. On 10/23/23 he tells me they can only offer $250 in reward points which I declined, because they know I wont use it.
There is a shift to park issue. When I place the shifter into park and the car is in park, I turn the vehicle off and I have a message action required “shift to park”
