I HAVE A 2004 GMC CANYON WITH NO KEY HOLE IN PASSENGER SIDE TO UNLOCK DOOR. IT IS A EXTENDED CAB REAR SEATS FOR KIDS. WHEN I PARALLEL PARK IN STREET I HAVE TO TAKE MY KIDS INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC TO UNLOCK DRIVERS DOOR WHILE THEY ARE IN HARMS WAY. THEY COULD GET HIT BY A ONCOMING CAR HEADING TOWARDS US. I FEEL IT SHOULD HAVE A SAFETY RECALL ON IT. THE 2007 MODELS HAVE A KEY HOLE IN BOTH DOORS I FEEL MINE SHOULD HAVE ONE AS WELL. THE DEALERSHIP DIDN'T INFORM ME ABOUT THE DEFECT. GM DOESN'T CARE ABOUT THEIR PAST MISTAKE, BUT THEY FIXED THE NEW MODELS WITH KEY HOLES. THEY DON'T FEEL I HAVE A VALID CLAIM WORTHY OF GETTING A KEY HOLE IN MINE FOR MY KIDS SAFETY,THEY SHOULDN'T HAVE TO ENTER THE VEHICLE FROM THE STREET. IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
CLIMATE CONTROL FAN ONLY WORKS IN POSITION 4. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP. THEY SAID IT WAS A RESISTOR ON CIRCUIT BOARD. THEY SWAPPED IT OUT. LESS THAN SIX MONTHS LATER SAME THING. TOOK IT IN AND DIDN'T HAVE THEM REPLACE IT. THEY DID HOWEVER DISCONNECT CONNECTOR TO MOTOR, IT WAS BURNT AND SLIGHTLY MELTED. WHY ARE THEY NOT INVESTIGATING THIS. I ASSUME THAT THE CONDENSING CAMBER DOESN'T DRAIN PROPERLY, THUS IMPINGING ON SQUIRREL CAGE BLOWER, THUS HIGHER STARTER AMPS REQUIRED AND THAT IS HOW YOU OVERCURRENT THIS CONNECTOR AND RESISTOR. *TR
TL* - THE CONTACT IS CALLING REGARDING THE LACK OF A KEY LOCK ON THE PASSENGER SIDE HIS 2004 GMC CANYON. THE CONTACT FEELS THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE FOR HIS CHILD AND WIFE OR FOR ANYONE WHO SITS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATES HE HAS NEVER EXPERIENCE THIS BEFORE IN ANY OF HIS GMC TRUCKS IN THE LAST 30 YEARS.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE BRAKE LIGHTS FAILED INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH. THE DEALER WAS NOT ALERTED.
CRUISE CONTROL FAILED IN JUNE 2006. REAR BRAKE LIGHTS FAILED IN SEPTEMBER 2006. FOUND NHTSA ID 06V139000 AND SHOWED TO DEALER SERVICE. HOWEVER, THEY AND GMC INDICATE THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ON MY VIN. HAD TO PAY $149.36 TO REPAIR AND MISSED WORK BECAUSE IT TOOK ALL DAY TO GET PART AND INSTALL. GMC WOULD NOT REIMBURSE UNTIL IT A RECALL FOR MY VIN IS ANNOUNCED. *NM
TL* - THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 GMC CANYON PICK UP TRUCK. THE TRUCKS BED CAP HAD A TINTED WINDOW THAT CAUSED THE DRIVER TO CRASH DUE TO POOR VISIBILITY. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE WINDOW WAS STANDARD, A 31% TINT WAS LEGAL IN ALL STATES. THE CAP ALSO HAS A CAUTIONARY NOTICE STATING THAT NO ONE SHOULD RIDE IN THE REAR. THE MANUFACTURER OF THE EQUIPMENT IS LEER, A DIVISION OF TRUCK ACCESSORIES INCORPORATED. THE CONTACT HAS REPLACED THE WINDOW WITH AN UNTINTED WINDOW TO INCREASE VISIBILITY; HOWEVER, HE WAS AWARE OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000. *AK UPDATE 04/17/07 *TR
I PURCHASED MY GMC CANYON FROM J KOONS PONTIAC GMC IN TYSONS CORNER, VIRGINIA IN MARCH 2004. I IMMEDIATELY BEGAN HAVING ISSUES WITH THE GENERAL BRAND TIRES THAT WERE PURCHASED WITH THE VEHICLE. THE TIRE WAS SO WEAK THAT THINGS SUCH AS DULL ROCKS, NAILS, AND EVEN A TOOTHPICK PUNCTURES THEM. I COULD UNDERSTAND NAILS, EVEN ROCKS, BUT A TOOTHPICK? KOONS DID REPLACE ONE OF THE FOUR TIRES AFTER REPEATED ATTEMPTS BY ME TO GET THIS ISSUES RESOLVED. HOWEVER, THE TIRES CONTINUED TO BE A PROBLEM WHERE I EVENTUALLY CHOSE TO JUST REPLACE THEM. SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD NO MORE ISSUES WITH MY TIRES EXCEPT FOR AN OCCASIONAL NAIL. NOW, RECENTLY I HAD TO TAKE MY TRUCK IN FOR SERVICE DUE TO MY BLOWER FOR MY HEATING AND AIR ONLY WORKING ON HIGH. COME TO FIND OUT THIS ISSUE WAS CAUSED BY A MELTED BLOWER. KOONS REPLACED THIS BLOWER AND I LEFT. 1 WEEK LATER THE BLOWER MELTED AGAIN. ONLY THIS TIME IT WASN'T COVERED UNDER WARRANTY ANYMORE BECAUSE THE CAUSE WAS A WIRE HARNESS GONE BAD CAUSING THE BLOWER TO SLIP AND MELT FROM ENGINE HEAT. HOW AM I RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS? I HAVE HAD NUMEROUS ISSUES WITH MY GMC AS WELL ON THE INTERIOR WITH THE CHEAP PLASTIC USED FOR THE SEAT RECLINER, THE "TOOL BOX" CLIPS, THE LUMBAR SPINE TURN KNOB AND MORE. I HAVE NOT BEEN IMPRESSED AT ALL WITH THE QUALITY OF MY VEHICLE AND WILL NOT PURCHASE ANOTHER GM VEHICLE. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE BRAKE PRESSURE WAS APPLIED, THE REAR BRAKE LIGHTS FAILED TO ILLUMINATE WITHOUT WARNING. ADDITIONALLY, THE CRUISE CONTROL FAILED TO ENGAGE. THE CONTACT REFERRED TO THE OWNER'S MANUAL THAT STATED THE BRAKE LIGHTS SWITCH AND THE CRUISE CONTROL ARE CONNECTED BY THE SAME WIRING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED BY A DEALER, BUT THE DEALER WAS ALERTED. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL # 06V139000 REGARDING THE BRAKE LIGHTS. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL.
BOTH OF MY TAILGATE STRAPS BROKE 3/30/2006. *JB
MY COMPLAINT IS THAT IN MY 2004 GMC CANYON EXTENDED CAB. IT DOESN'T COME WITH A PASSENGER AIR BAG ON-OFF SWITCH. MY 6 YEAR OLD CHILD HAS TO SIT IN THE FOLD DOWN SEAT IN THE BACK. THE PROBLEM WITH THIS IS THE SEATS HAVE NO HEAD REST SO WHEN SHE IS PROPERLY BELTED IN WITH THE USE OF A BOOSTER SEAT IT PUTS HER HEAD 3 INCHES FROM THE GLASS OF THE REAR WINDOW. THE SHAPE AND SIZE OF THE SEAT DOESN'T ALLOW FOR THE USE OF A LARGER STYLE BOOSTER SEAT. SHE HAS ALREADY HIT HER HEAD ONCE ON THE SIDE DURING A SUDDEN TURN TO AVOID AN OTHER CAR BUT IF I AM EVER REAR ENDED SHE WILL DEFINITELY HIT THE GLASS BECAUSE OF NO HEAD REST. *NM
THE BRAKE LIGHTS ON MY 2004 GMC CANYON HAVE FAILED 4 TIMES SINCE I PURCHASED THE TRUCK IN MAY 2004. THE DEALERSHIP CONTINUES TO INSIST THAT THE PROBLEM IS A FAULTY BREAK LIGHT SWITCH. HOWEVER, THE REPLACEMENT SWITCHES CONTINUE TO FAIL. *NM
REAR TURN SIGNAL LIGHTS, BRAKE LAMPS AND HEAD LAMPS EXPERIENCE PERMANENT LOSS. SOMETIMES WHEN THE VEHICLE BECOMES WET THE CRUISE CONTROL STOPS FUNCTIONING, THE POWER DOOR LOCKS STOP WORKING, THE POWER WINDOWS STOP WORKING, AND THE POWER REAR VIEW MIRRORS STOP WORKING. ALSO THERE IS PERIODIC NON-FUNCTIONING OF THE REMOTE KEY ENTRY. AS OF 11/10/2006 THE REAR TAIL LIGHTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWICE AND ONE HEAD LAMP AT OWNERS EXPENSE. CURRENTLY A THIRD BRAKE LIGHT REQUIRES REPLACEMENT. ON NOV. 10, 2006 I TOOK THE TRUCK IN FOR REPAIR AN MENTIONED THE RECALL ON THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT GM HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL AND THAT THE OWNER WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. I AM AWARE OF THE "NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER 06V-139" AND GM'S APRIL 26, 2006 RESPONSE TO MR. DANIEL C. SMITH, ASSOCIATE ADMINISTRATOR FOR ENFORCEMENT, NHTSA. ALTHOUGH THE RECALL REFERENCES ONLY THE BRAKE LAMPS AND POSSIBILITY OF CRUISE CONTROL FAILURE, I BELIEVE THE PROBLEM IS FURTHER EXASPERATED WITH THE OTHER AFORE MENTIONED ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. CONSEQUENCES PRESENT THEMSELVES IN THE FORM OF DISTRACTIONS TO THE DRIVER WHEN TRYING TO DRIVE AND MAKE ADJUSTMENTS TO THE FOLLOWING ELECTRICAL COMPONETS WHEN THEY FAIL TO FUNCTION: DOOR MOUNTED REAR VIEW MIRRORS, LOWERING OF WINDOWS IN ORDER TO PAY FOR HIGHWAY TOLLS, REAR BRAKE LIGHTS AND TURN SIGNAL LIGHTS FAIL, AND REDUCED HEAD LAMP FAILURES. *JB
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE FRONT LEFT AXLE CRACKED. THERE WAS A LOSS OF FLUID, AND THE VEHICLE STARTED TO MAKE NOISE. THE DEALER OFFERED NO FREE REMEDY BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED. *AK UPDATED 12/14/05. *JB
SHIMMY, VIBRATION, EVEN SMALL POTHOLES JAR THE STEERING TO EITHER SIDE. *NM
WHILE DRIVING ON LOCAL STREETS OR HIGHWAY, AT ANY SPEED, A VIBRATION OCCURS FROM THE FRONT TIRES. SOUNDS AND FEELS LIKE A ROCK IS STUCK IN THE TIRE (SHIMMY). THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME VEHICLE IS DRIVEN AND SOMETIMES MORE NOTICEABLE THEN OTHERS. DEALER ROTATED TIRES AND STATE THAT NO DEFECTS WERE FOUND
DT: CONTACT STATED THE TIRES WORE OUT. THE ORIGINAL FRONT TIRES WERE REPLACED BECAUSE THEY WORE OUT FROM THE INSIDE. THE REPLACEMENT TIRES WERE ALSO WEARING OUT. THE DEALER DID NOT OFFER ANY EXPLANATION FOR THE TIRE WEAR.*AK UPDATED 12/27/05. *JB
CONCERNS REGARDING NO KEY LOCK ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE 2004 GMC CANYON.*MR THIS VEHICLE HAS MANUAL DOOR LOCKS, AN A KEY LOCK IS NO LONGER PROVIDED ON THE RIGHT DOOR. CONSUMER STATES THIS COULD BE A PROBLEM IN THE EVENT THAT EMERGENCY ACCESS WERE REQUIRED. *BF *NM
MY 2004 GMC CANYON WAS FOUND TO HAVE BOTH FRONT TIRES COMPLETLY WORN OUT ALONG THE INSIDE EDGE AT 10000 MILES, GMC HAS SEVERAL SEVICE BULLETINS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM BUT SAY THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT CAUSED THE TIRE WEAR AND WILL NOT COVER IT UNDER THE WARRENTY
THE CONSUMER WAS HAVING PROBLEMS OBTAINING A WINDOW STICKER FOR 2004 GMC CANYON. *MR THE VEHICLE WHISTLES VERY LOUDLY WHILE IN MOTION, ALMOST CAUSING ACCIDENTS, ESPECIALLY AT NIGHT. *SC
CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD KNOCK OR BANG FROM UNDERSIDE OF 2004 GMC CANYON TRUCK. *BF *JB
HAD ABS AND EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHTS ON ALREADY. *JB
WHEN DRIVING, THE VEHICLE WOULD AUTOMATICALLY KICK INTO 4-WHEEL DRIVE WHEN MAKING A TURN IN EITHER DIRECTION. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN DOING THIS FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS. THERE IS NO WARNING. WHEN IT KICKS IN 4-WHEEL DRIVE, IT STOPS LIKE THE BRAKE IS ON. THE CONSUMER WAS ALMOST INVOLVED IN SEVERAL ACCIDENTS . THE VEHICLE IS REGULARLY SERVICED. THERE ARE NO OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE. *AK *SC *JB
VEHICLE HAS VIBRATION IN IT. FOUND THE TIRES WERE BAD. CONSUMER HAD THE TIRES REPLACED AND BALANCED. HOWEVER, THAT DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. CONTACTED THE DEALER. THEY DID A EVA TESTING ON IT, CONSUMER WAS TOLD THE VEHICLE MET THEIR STANDARDS. HOWEVER, THE VIBRATION PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK
I RECENTLY PURCHASED A BASIC 2004 GMC CANYON (I.E., NO POWER WINDOWS/LOCKS). I WAS NOT INFORMED THAT THE PASSENGER DOOR DID NOT HAVE A KEYED ENTRY. I RECENTLY SAW ANOTHER COMPLAINT REGARDING THE SAME ISSUE ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE AND HAVE SEEN OTHER COMMENTS ON OTHER WEBSITES. ADDITIONALLY, A FRIEND ALSO BOUGHT A BASIC 2004 COLORADO AND WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE LACK OF THIS FEATURE. ASIDE FROM THE NUISANCE IN NOT BEING ABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR DIRECTLY, I AGREE WITH THE OTHER COMPLAINT ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE THAT THIS IS A POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUE IF THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR IS BLOCKED AND A CHILD OR OTHER PERSON BECOMES INJURED OR SICK AND YOU CANNOT OPEN THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR. PERSONALLY, I BELIEVE THAT GMC SHOULD OFFER TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM ON THESE BASIC TRUCKS OR AT LEAST OFFER THE MODIFICATION AT A REASONABLE PRICE. I E-MAILED GMC REGARDING THIS ISSUE BUT THE RESPONSE BASICALLY SKIRTED THE ISSUE. I ALSO INCLUDED THE ABOVE COMMENTS TO GMC ON THE CUSTOMER SATISFACTION FORM.*AK
BRAKE PROBLEMS-PULSATING BRAKES, ROTORS AND DRUMS HAVE BEEN RESURFACED AND REPLACED NUMEROUS TIMES WITHIN 15 MONTHS AND 12,000 MILES. THE PROBLEM HAS STILL NOT BEEN RESOLVED. *JB
THERE IS A HIGH PITCHED WHINING COMING FROM THE ENGINE WHENEVER I USE THE AIR CONDITIONING. THE WHINE IS NOT CONSTANT. IT SOUNDS LIKE IT MAKES THE NOISE WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR KICKS IN. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE ON 4/29/2004. *AK
PURCHASED 2004 CANYON CREW CAB WITH 2.8L 4 CYLINDER, AUTOMATIC AND 1SC SLE OPTION PACKAGE. TRUCK APPEARS TO HAVE VIBRATION IN BODY THAT OCCURS AT DIFFERENT SPEED WHEN A STEADY SPEED IS HELD. USUALLY SHAKES/VIBRATION IS MOST NOTICEABLE AT 50~60 RANGE. HAVE HAS TIRES REPLACED TWICE, WHEELS CHECKED AND DEALER HAS BEEN UNABLE TO FIND SOURCE OF PROBLEM AFTER OVER 5,000 MILES. PROBLEM APPEARS TO BE DESIGN FLAW IN CANYON SUSPENSION DESIGN. CURRENTLY IN DEALER FOR THIRD VISIT TO TRY AND CORRECT. TRUCK HAS HAD PROBLEM SINCE DAY ONE AND PER DEALER SERVICE MANAGER ALL OF HIS TRUCKS ON LOT HAVE SIMILAR PROBLEMS. *JB
SKID PLATES WERE NOT INSTALLED ON THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE ALTHOUGH THEY ARE LISTED AS STANDARD EQUIPMENT FOR HIS MODEL. *NM THE CONSUMER WANTED SKID PLATES INSTALLED ON HIS VEHICLE AS THE PACKAGE DESCRIBED OR WOULD LIKE $500.00 TO HAVE IT MADE. *TC *JB
I OWN A 2004 GMC CANYON, AND SOMEONE PARKED TOO CLOSE TO MY DRIVERSIDE FOR ME TO GET INTO THE VEHICLE, WHEN I WENT TO THE PASSENGERS SIDE I DISCOVERED THERE WAS NO LOCK IN THE PASSENGER DOOR. I DO NOT HAVE KEYLESS ENTRY. I WAS TRYING TO GET INTO THE VEHICLE TO REACH MY MEDICATION. I HAD NO WAY INTO THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER DID NOT DISCLOSE THE ABSENCE OF A PASSENGER SIDE DOOR LOCK. THIS CANNOT BE SAFE, WHAT IF A CHILD WAS IN THE TRUCK.*AK
