Frame front passenger cracked while driving. Was able to avoid near accident with another vehicle.
The frame has rust through and broke on rear front leafspring mount of frame on both side . A very know problem with almost every one of these trucks
The contact owns a 2004 GMC Canyon. The contact stated that after work was completed on the tires, the independent mechanic informed him that due to severe undercarriage corrosion, the vehicle was unsafe to drive. The contact also took the vehicle to a dealer who provided the same information as the independent mechanic. The manufacturer was then notified of the failure and informed him that there were no open recalls on the vehicle. No additional assistance was offered. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 89,000.
THE CHASSIS HAS BECOME SEVERELY RUSTED ON LEFT SIDE WHERE FRONT OF LEAF SPRING IS BOLTED TO IT. IT IS ABOUT TO BREAK OFF AND IT HAS BEEN DENOTED AS "UNSAFE TO DRIVE" BY THE LOCAL GMC DEALERSHIP. TRUCK HAS BEEN WELL-MAINTAINED AND IS IN GOOD CONDITION OTHERWISE. IT HAS BEEN GARAGE-KEPT FOR THE LAST 10 YEARS. I BOUGHT IT NEW 9/2004. THE DEALERSHIP JUST DISCOVERED PROBLEM TODAY WHEN I WAS HAVING OTHER ROUTINE WORK DONE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 GMC CANYON. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL RATTLING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR FRAME. THE CONTACT DROVE HOME AND THEN TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DETERMINED THAT THE FRAME WAS SEVERELY CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 119,730. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.
WE HAD SOME REPAIR WORK DONE AND WERE TOLD THAT THE FRAME WAS RUSTED OUT SO BADLY IT WAS READY TO BREAK IN HALF, LEAVING US WITH A CAR THAT IS UNDRIVEABLE. THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE WITH OTHER MODELS OF GMC TRUCKS AND THE ISSUE IS NOT BEING ADDRESSED. MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE!
AFTER READING A POST FROM THE 116 AFFECTED GMC CANYON OWNERS I HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. LAST MONTH JUNE 2019 WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK MY AC JUST QUIT WORKING (HOT WEATHER IN SACRAMENTO), NO MATTER WHAT SPEED IT WAS ON 1 THROUGH 4. I ALSO SMELT A BURNING SMELL. TODAY WHILE DRIVING MY TRUCK TO THE REALER TO GET IT ANALYZED I HIT A BUMP AND THE BLOWER STARTED WORKING AGAIN ON SPEED 4. BOB FROM JOHN L SULLIVAN CHEVY JUST CALLED TO CONFIRM THE DIAGNOSIS...THE CONNECTOR THAT CONNECTS TO THE BLOWER WAS MELTED AND THE RESISTER WAS BURNT.
UNDERCARRIAGE RUST CAUSED SPARE TIRE/WHEEL TO FALL FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE.
THE GMC PASSLOCK LOCKOUT FEATURE IS A PAIN IN THE REAR OF NEARLY EVERY CAR/TRUCK OWNER HAVING THIS FEATURE. TODAY, FOR THE UMPTEENTH TIME, MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT START WHEN I TRIED TO START IT UP AFTER FUELING. MY TRUCK WAS STUCK AT THE GAS PUMPS, OBSTRUCTING OTHER PATRONS WAITING TO GAS UP. I SAT WAITING FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES AND TRIED STARTING IT AGAIN, WHILE GETTING DIRTY LOOKS FROM OTHER PEOPLE WAITING TO GAS UP. OF, COURSE IT DIDN'T START BECAUSE I HADN'T WAITED THE REQUISITE 10 MINUTES. FINALLY, I GOT OUT AND PUSHED THE TRUCK AWAY FROM THE PUMPS BY MYSELF (I AM 72 YEARS OLD) AND THEN WAITED 10 MINUTES AND FINALLY RE-STARTED MY VEHICLE. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS AGGRAVATION OF MY VEHICLE NOT STARTING MANY, MANY TIMES DURING THE 14 YEARS THAT I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER GMC PRODUCT! GMC SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO ISSUE A RECALL AND FIX THIS PROBLEM ONCE AND FOR ALL.
REAR FRAME HAS RUSTED COMPLETELY OUT. NOW SITTING AND CANNOT DRIVE. I LOVE DRIVING THIS TRUCK BUT NOW IT IS JUST SITTING. HOPE GM WILL SELL ME A FRAME AT COST SO I CAN FIX IT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 GMC CANYON. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING SERVICED AT AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, THE TECHNICIAN NOTICED THAT THE ENTIRE FRAME WAS CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE DASH WARNING FOR SEATBELT IS LIT UP
TRUCK FRAME HAS TOTALLY RUSTED OUT WITH ONLY 80,000 MILES ON THE TRUCK. BODY SHOWS NOTHING, BUT THE FRAME IS DISINTEGRATING. I RECENTLY PURCHASED THIS BASED ON PICTURES WHICH SHOWED AN EXTREMELY CLEAN BODY AND INTERIOR (TRUE). GOT IT DELIVERED TO MY MECHANIC WHO CALLED ME TO SHOW ME THE HOLES IN THE FRAME!
THE FRAME HAS TOTALLY RUSTED AND IS BREAKING APART WHILE THE REST OF THE TRUCK IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. SEE PHOTOS. THIS WAS NOTICED ON 09-18-17. I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK NEW IN 2004 AND AS YOU CAN TELL BY THE MILEAGE IT HAS BEEN DRIVEN VERY LITTLE. PLEASE CONTACT ME WITH ANY QUESTIONS.

WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS AT AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE REAR SUBFRAME AND THE TRUCK BED WERE SEVERELY CORRODED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE AND SHOULD NOT BE DRIVEN. THE LOCAL DEALER STATED THAT THERE WERE ISSUES REPORTED ABOUT RUST TO THE REAR SUBFRAME OF SOME SIMILAR VEHICLES; HOWEVER, THERE WERE NO RECALLS TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 154,000.
FRAME ROTTED OUT WHERE LEAF SPRING CONNECTS TO FRAME
FRAME IS RUSTING AND COLLAPSING IN AREA BETWEEN CAB AND BED ON BOTH SIDES I HAD ATOYOTATACOMA WITH THIS CONDITION AND MANUFACTURER BOUGHT IT BACK . MY VEHICLE WAS NEVER IN A COLLISION. 95000 MILES
MY 2004 GMC CANYON CAUGHT FIRE YESTERDAY ABOUT 1:12 PM AND BURNED UP. THE FIRE DEPT. INDICATED A STRONG SMELL OF GAS. THIS EVENT HAPPENED ABOUT 20 MINUTES AFTER I ARRIVED HOME IN THE VEHICLE. THE FIRE WAS PUT OUT BY THE EASTSIDE FIRE DEPT UNDER INCIIDENT NUMBER 17-1594. THEIR PHONE NUMBER IS 425-313-3200.
A PORTION OF THE FRAME HAS COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE REAR TIRE ON THE DRIVER SIDE. WATER MUST HAVE GOTTEN TRAPPED INSIDE OF THE BOX FRAME DUE TO LACK OF DRAINAGE HOLES AND A 12 INCH SECTION ON THE BOTTOM OF THE FRAME HAS COMPLETELY RUSTED OFF. ONE OF THE VERTICAL WELDS GOING UP THE SIDE OF THE FRAME HAS ALSO RUSTED THROUGH IN THIS SPOT. THIS VEHICLE IS ONLY DRIVEN ON PAVED ROADS IN URBAN MINNESOTA.
ON OCTOBER 5, 2016, I TOOK MY TRUCK OVER TO MY MECHANIC TO HAVE MY BRAKE LINES BLED AS I REPLACED THE RIGHT FRONT CALIPER. WHEN THEY TOOK THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE OFF, THEY HAD SHOWN ME THAT THE LOWER LEFT CONTROL ARM MOUNT WAS GOING TO FAIL. THERE WAS NO FAILURE AS OF YET AND THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY WHEN THE PROBLEM WAS FOUND. IT WAS SEVERELY RUSTED OUT AND CRACKED, AS WELL AS THE FRAME AND AREA AROUND IT WAS SEVERELY RUSTED AND HOLES WERE VISIBLE. SO I DROVE IT HOME AND TOOK IT OVER TO A WELDER THAT HAS DONE REPAIRS ON THE TRUCK BEFORE AND HE SAID THAT IT WAS TOO CLOSE TO THE SUSPENSION COMPONENTS AND HE WASN'T GOING TO FIX IT. SO, AS OF NOW, I AM LOOKING FOR SOMEONE WHO SPECIALIZES IN AUTOMOTIVE WELDING, BUT THERE NOT TOO MANY PEOPLE HERE IN MY AREA WHO SPECIALIZE IN THIS KIND OF WORK. INSPECTION IS COMING UP AND I DOUBT IT PASSES. MECHANICALLY, I HAVE HAS FEW PROBLEMS WITH THIS TRUCK AND WOULD MUCH RATHER FIX IT THAN GET RID OF IT. PICTURES I AM POSTING SHOW THE SEVERITY OF THE DAMAGE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2004 GMC CANYON. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS REAR ENDED. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE PRECEDING VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND THE SEAT BELT PRE-TENSIONER FAILED TO SECURE THE CONTACT, WHICH CAUSED HER FACE TO STRIKE THE STEERING WHEEL. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND CARRIED OUT AN INVESTIGATION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
GOT RECALL NOTICE IN LATE 2014 EARLY 2015 NOTICE OF RECALL ON TRUCK FOR IGNITION SWITCH. I HAVE OWNED THE TRUCK SINCE I BOUGHT IT IN 2004. I GOT A RECALL NOTICE IN THE TIME FRAME ABOVE TO BRING IT IN. I TOOK IT TO THEN STANLY GMC IN SHERMAN TEXAS, NOW PARKWAY GMC. THE PARTS MANAGER SAID BECAUSE I WAS OUTSIDE THE MILEAGE THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. TO DAY I SAW AN ARTICLE IN OUR NEWSPAPER ABOUT THE POOR RECALL PERCENTAGE ON YOUR NOTICES. I TOOK MINE IN AS THE ARTICLE SAID YOU WOULD LIKE ME TO DO. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THAT TIME MADE ME FEEL LIKE I WAS A NUISANCE. I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEM YET AND INTEND TO KEEP THE TRUCK FOR ANOTHER 10 YEARS OR SO. IF I DO EVER DECIDE TO TRADE FOR A NEW TRUCK I'LL KEEP THIS EVENT IN MIND. HAS BEEN A PROBLEM FOR SOME TIME AND WAS TOLD TO REPORT TO THIS SITE MY PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT STAYS ON, TRUCK IS A EXTENDED CAB SO CHECKED THE WIRING IN THE DOORS AND THEY WERE BROKE IN PASSENGER DOOR SO I REPAIRED THEM THINKING I FOUND THE PROBLEM AND LIGHT STILL STAYS ON AND RADIO WILL NOT SHUT OFF WHEN DRIVERS SIDE DOOR IS OPENED ALSO DOME LIGHT DOES NOT COME ON BUT WILL WHEN THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR IS OPENED?????? DEALERSHIP JUST WANTS $$$$$ TO CHECK THE CODES AND MORE $$$$ TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM THAT IS OCCURRING FROM THEIR POOR DESIGN FROM WHAT I HAVE READ I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS THIS PROBLEM. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE IGNITION HAD TO BE TURNED LIGHTLY AND RELEASED QUICKLY IN ORDER TO START THE VEHICLE. THE BRAKE LIGHT OUT WAS A SAFETY CONCERN FOR TAILGATERS. SO I TOOK TO MARK CHRISTOPHER GMC DEALER, ONTARIO CA FOR REPAIR BECAUSE OF TWO SAME RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE PLUS TRANSMISSION OIL CHANGE. ORIGINAL ESTIMATION OF COST WAS 305. THE DEALER DECIDED TO CHARGE ME 155 FOR TRANSMISSION OIL CHANGE AND LABOR, $16.75 FOR A DEFECTIVE/MALFUNCTION BRAKE SWITCH AND $200 ON LABOR. THEY TOLD ME THE RECALLS WAS DONE ALREADY ON THE VEHICLE AND THERE IS NO WARRANTY ON THE SECOND ATTEMPT. THE FINAL ESTIMATION OF COST WAS $377. I DON'T RECALL THE DATE THAT IT WAS SERVICED. HOW CAN GMC ASSURES THAT THE VEHICLE RECALLS WAS DONE PROPERLY? I'M VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH GMC AND IT RECALLS. I FELT LIKE I GOT RIP OFF BY THE DEALER. BESIDE, I DON'T KNOW IF THEY EVER CHANGE MY TRANSMISSION OIL FILTER AND CASKET ALONG WITH THE TRANSMISSION OIL CHANGE. *TR
REDUCED POWER LIGHT CAME ON THE DASHBOARD AND I HAD NO POWER. THIS HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES SINCE JULY 2013. IT HAS HAPPENED 2 TIMES IN APRIL AND NOW AGAIN. IT IS GOING BACK TO THE GARAGE ON TUES. GETTING RIDICULOUS AND EXPENSIVE! WHEN IT IS PUT ON THE SCOPE IT KEEPS COMING UP WITH THE THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR FAULT. *TR
I WENT TO WORK THIS MORNING AND MY 2004 GMC CANYON TRUCK WAS RUNNING FINE, ABOUT 2 HOURS LATER I RAN AN ERRAND, STILL NO ISSUES WITH THE TRUCK. AROUND 2:00PM I WENT TO RUN ANOTHER ERRAND AND SMELT SOMETHING LIKE BURNING PLASTIC, I OPENED MY TRUCK TO FIND THAT MY FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WAS SMOLDERING. THE TRUCK WAS FULL OF SMOKE AND THERE IS NOW A HOLE IN THE SIDE OF MY DOOR FROM WHERE THE PLASTIC MELTED! I HAVE NO IDEA HOW THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED, BUT THIS IS MY ONLY SOURCE OF TRANSPORTATION AND I OFTEN TAKE MY GRANDDAUGHTERS ON TRIPS WITH ME. I PLAN TO TAKE IT TO A GMC DEALERSHIP AND HAVE THEM LOOK AT IT SO MAYBE THEY CAN TELL ME WHAT CAUSED THIS PROBLEM. ALSO, THE BACK SEATS IN THIS TRUCK BLOCK A LOT OF THE VIEW OUT OF THE REAR WINDOW CAUSING MAJOR BLIND SPOTS. I JUST READ A JALOPNIK ARTICLE ON A RECALL OF THE G3 HUMMER AND THE QUESTION WHY THE CANYON/COLORADO WAS NOT INCLUDED. A FEW YEARS BACK THE BLOWER FAN QUIT WORKING ON LOW SETTINGS. I FOUND A TECH TIP THAT SUGGESTED I REPLACE THE FAN RESISTOR, WHICH I DID. I REMEMBER WHEN I REPLACED IT THERE WAS BROWN MARKS ON THE RESISTOR AND PLUG AT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS. WHILE I DID NOT SUFFER A FIRE LIKE SOME OTHERS, THIS IS A REAL PROBLEM WITH THESE RIGS. THOUGHT YOU SHOULD KNOW...
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 GMC CANYON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, AFTER DRIVING OVER TRAIN TRACKS THE VEHICLE MADE A LOUD NOISE. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE HE NOTICED THAT THE FRAME WAS BENT IN HALF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE FAILURE WAS TO DO TO A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 94,000.
BRAKE LIGHTS STOPPING WORKING AND DOOR LOCKS AND CONTROLLABLE TO AND WINDOWS TO
WHILE DRIVING THE ABS SYSTEM WILL BEGIN TO ENGAGE, SOMETIMES PREVENTING ME FROM STOPPING NORMALLY. AFTER A FEW MINUTES OF THE ABS ENGAGING I WILL GET A ABS FAULT READING ON MY DASH. THE TRUCK WILL THEN BRAKE NORMALLY. *TR
MY 2004 GMC CANYON HAS, FOR THE PAST YEAR, QUIT STARTING DUE TO ANTI THEFT PASSLOCK SYSTEM INSTALLED ON TRUCK. I HAVE ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS THUS FAR BEEN INVOLVED IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION THAT COULD HAVE BEEN FURTHER PREVENTED BUT THE ANTI THEFT PASSLOCK STOPPED ME FROM STARTING THE VEHICLE. THIS SPECIFICALLY IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM THAT GM IS AWARE OF AND HAS MADE NO RECALL TO DATE ON THE ISSUE. THERE ARE SAFETY AND EMERGENCY SITUATIONS BEING CAUSED BY THIS DEFECT. GMC ADMITS THAT THERE IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THE 5 CYLINDER MOTOR. THEY KNOW THAT THERE IS DOCUMENTED EVIDENCE WITH THE CYLINDER HEAD LEAKING AIR, CAUSING TROUBLE WITH IDLE, AND TRUCK SPEEDS, BUT THEY REFUSE TO PRODUCE A RECALL EVEN AFTER ALLTHE MONEY THAT IS DISHED OUT FOR THIS TRUCK. THE TRUCK WILL GO DIED AT STOP SIGNS AND IS IN CONSTANT MISFIRE STATE WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE, NOT TO MENTION THE GAS MILEAGE THAT IS WASTED BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE.!!! MY VIN NUMBER IS [XXX]. TRUCK HAS 142000 MILES NOW AND IS CONSTANTLY GOING DEAD WHEN THE WHEELS ARE TURNED HARD, OR JUST SITTING AT STOP SIGNS OR RED LIGHTS.!!! I PULLED INTO THE PARKING AREA OF A GROCERY STORE AND STOPPED IN THE DRIVING LANE OF THE LOT. UPON BACKING INTO A PARKING SPOT, THE SHIFT LEVER MOVED FREELY IN MY HAND AND WOULD NOT SHIFT GEARS. I ROLLED FORWARD INTO A PARKING SPOT AND CALLED AAA ASSISTANCE. UPON AAA'S ARRIVAL THE TECHNICIAN CRAWLED UNDER TO TRUCK AND REATTACHED THE TRANSMISSION CABLE. OVER THE COURSE OF SEVERAL WEEKS THE CABLE CAME OFF THE TRANSMISSION LINKAGE SEVERAL MORE TIMES. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALER TO HAVE THE LINKAGE REPLACED. THE END OF THE CABLE WAS MADE OF PLASTIC AND APPEARED CORRODED. *KB
I HAVE A 2004 GMC CANYON AND WAS PULLED OVER AND TOLD THAT MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING. I HAVE A 2004 GMC CANYON, PURCHASED NEW IN FEB. 2004. IT IS EQUIPPED WITH THE GM PASSKEY II SYSTEM. THIS IS INTENDED TO ACT AS A THEFT DETERRENT BY SHUTTING DOWN THE FLOW OF GAS TO THE FUEL INJECTORS IF SOMEONE ATTEMPTS TO START THE VEHICLE WITH A KEY WHICH DOES NOT PROPERLY REGISTER ELECTRONICALLY WITH A STARTING MODULE IN THE VEHICLE. THE CUSTOMERS KEY HAS AN EMBEDDED CHIP WHICH SENDS AN ELECTRONIC SIGNAL TO THE STARTING MODULE. IF THE SIGNAL RECEIVED IS MISREAD THE VEHICLE WILL NOT START. THE PROBLEM IS THAT AFTER ABOUT 5-7 YEARS THE SYSTEM STARTS TO FAIL AND DOES NOT PROPERLY READ THIS ELECTRONIC SIGNAL, THEREBY SHUTTING DOWN THE FLOW OF FUEL TO THE FUEL INJECTORS. AS A RESULT, THE CONSUMER, USING AN ORIGINAL KEY, CANNOT START THE VEHICLE WITHOUT FIRST RESORTING TO A TEN MINUTE PROCEDURE TO INSERT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION, TURN IT TO THE ACCESSORY POSITION AND WAITING UNTIL THE MODULE RE-REGISTERS THE KEY. MY TRUCK IS FAILING TO START AT INTERMITTENT TIMES. HAVE CHECKED THE STARTER AND ALTERNATOR BUT THE LIGHTS WORK AND THE BATTERY CHECKS OUT FINE. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF A 2004 GMC CANYON PU, PURCHASED ON 06-10--04. ON 05-10-06, I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL GMC DEALER IN SOUTHERN CA. BECAUSE THE AIRBAG LIGHT ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL STAYED ON. THE VEHICLE MILEAGE AT THIS TIME WAS 42,220. THE PROBLEM WAS TAKEN CARE OF AT NO CHARGE. ON 12-28-07, I TOOK THE ABOVE LISTED VEHICLE (MILEAGE 74,456) INTO MY LOCAL GMC DEALER IN SOUTHERN AZ. BECAUSE THE AIRBAG LIGHT ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AGAIN STAYED ON. AN ELECTRICAL DIAGNOSIS OF THE SYSTEM REVEALED A FAULTY PRE TENSIONER. THE SERVICE CONSULTANT TOLD ME IT WOULD COST OVER $300 TO INSTALL A NEW PRE-TENSIONER. HE SAID HE ALSO CALLED GMC HQ TO FIND OUT IF THE CHARGE COULD BE WAIVED AND WAS TOLD NO. THEY TOLD ME THAT IF I WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH, THE AIRBAG MIGHT NOT DEPLOY. I DID NOT GET IT REPAIR AT THAT TIME. I WROTE TO GMC HQ ABOUT THE PROBLEM SAYING IT WAS A SAFETY DEFECT AND AFTER CONSULTING WITH THE AZ DEALER, THEY SAID NO TO MY WAIVER.
