9/21/05 WENT TO START VEHICLE AND THE IGNITION STAYED ENGAGED. HAD TO TURN VEHICLE OFF AND RESTART. HAVE NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP YET. *NM
THE "2005 GMC CANYON" PICK-UP AND SIMILAR VEHICLES MADE BY THIS MANUFACTURER LACK KEYED ACCESS LOCKS ON THE PASSENGER-SIDE DOORS. IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY, BECAUSE THERE IS NO PRACTICAL WAY TO READILY ACCESS THE VEHICLE FROM THE PASSENGER-SIDE, THERE IS THE POTENTIAL THAT THE VEHICLE OWNER OR PASSENGERS WOULD BE EXPOSED TO UNDUE HARM. IT IS TAKEN FOR GRANTED BY MOST CONSUMERS THAT VEHICLES COME WITH KEYED ACCESS ON THE PASSENGER-SIDE, BUT NOWHERE IN THE MANUFACTURERS LITERATURE DOES IT MENTION THAT THERE ARE NO OUTSIDE LOCKS ON THE PASSENGER-SIDE OF THESE VEHICLES. IF A CONSUMER WERE TO PURCHASE THE VEHICLE WITH POWER LOCKS, THIS WOULDN'T BE AN ISSUE, UNLESS THERE WAS A POWER FAILURE TO THE VEHICLE, BUT VEHICLES SOLD THAT DO NOT COME WITH THE POWER DOOR LOCK FEATURE, DO NOT COME WITH OUTSIDE DOOR LOCKS ON THE PASSENGER-SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. I FEEL THAT THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD RETROFIT THESE VEHICLES WITH OUTSIDE DOOR LOCKS. *JB
DT: 2005 GMC CANYON. THE CONSUMER PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND HAD IT SIX DAYS WHEN THE VEHICLE KICKED INTO HIGH SPEED AT 50-60 MPH. THE VEHICLE WENT OVER A CLIFF AND INTO A PARKED VEHICLE AND WAS TOTALED. THE CONSUMER BROKE HIS HAND, AND THE CONSUMER'S WIFE BRUISED HER KIDNEY. THE INSURANCE COMPANY GOT THE CONSUMER A NEW VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING PARKED INTO THE GARAGE AND THE RPMS REVVED TO 5,500. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT IT FELT LIKE THE CRUISE CONTROL HAD KICKED IN, BUT THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT ON. THEN, THE CONSUMER CALLED THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP, AND THEY TOLD HIM TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN. THE DEALERSHIP CALLED THE CONSUMER BACK AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE FOR A DAY AND TOLD THE CONSUMER TO COME AND GET THE VEHICLE. THEY DID NOT KNOW WHY INCIDENT OCCURRED. A POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN WITH THE FIRST CRASH. *AK *SC
FIRST: HEARING IMPAIRED DRIVER...PREMATURE REAR BRAKE LINING FAILURE LEADING TO MAJOR DAMAGE TO DRUMS AND HYDRAULIC SYSTEM...SECOND TIME IN LESS THAN 53,000 MILES ON VEHICLE..RESULTING IN REPAIRS TOTALING APPROXIMATELY. $2276.00...THIS PREMATURE FAILURE OF SYSTEM RESULTED FROM MODERATE VEHICLE USAGE AND DRIVING HABITS, NON-ABUSE OF VEHICLE...A NORMAL DRIVEN VEHICLE LIFE OF REAR BRAKE LININGS AND ASSOCIATED SYSTEMS SHOULD LAST 60,000 PLUS MILES ON THIS MODEL 2005 GMC CANYON PICK-UP. THE REPAIRING FACILITY COULD OFFER NO REASON OR VISIBLE REASON OF THIS TYPE OF FAILURE...THE FOREMOST REASON THAT COMES TO MIND IS EMERGENCY BRAKE BEING DEPRESS AND OR "RIDING" THE BRAKES BUT BOTH OF THESE HAVE BEEN ELIMINATED...SO CAUSE IS UNKNOWN..THE FIRST FAILURE OCCURRED ON OR ABOUT 08/22/05, MILEAGE 23,403 AND THE SECOND OCCURRED ON OR ABOUT 07/17/06, MILEAGE APPROXIMATELY 53,000 MILES... *NM
DT: 2005 GMC CANYON. WHEN THE VEHICLE MOVED EITHER FAST OR SLOW IT SHOOK A LOT. THE VEHICLE PULLED TO THE RIGHT, AND IT WAS AN HALF TO ONE INCH TO THE RIGHT. WHEN I TURNING THE TRUCK IT SEEMED SOMETHING WAS SLIDING IN THE REAR OF THE TRUCK. TOOK THE TRUCK TO DEALER FOR REPAIRS, AND THE DEALER WAS CLOSED. THE NEXT DAY THE TRUCK WAS TOTALED IN AN ACCIDENT. WHILE DRIVING 45 TO 50 MPH, THE CAR IN FRONT SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES AT A RED LIGHT. ALSO, CONSUMER SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES, BUT THE TRUCK BRAKES LOCKED, AND THE TRUCK SLID TO THE RIGHT. SPOKE TO THE INSURANCE COMPANY, AND THE TRUCK WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER , AND THEY WERE INVESTIGATING. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. S A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. *AK
WITHIN 1 WEEK OF PURCHASING THE VEHICLE IN 4/05 THE TRANSMISSION WOULD BANG INTO 2ND GEAR. IT DIDN'T MATTER IF YOU TOOK OFF SLOWLY OF ACCELERATED QUICKLY. TOOK TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY DID A COMPUTER DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND FOUND NO PROBLEMS. THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO DO THIS. *NM
WINDSHIELD WIPERS WILL NOT WORK IN COLD, BELOW FREEZING, TEMPS. WILL WORK IF WARMED. ELECTRIC MOTOR INOP IN COLD TEMPS. NO WATER OR ICE ON MOTOR. CAN'T USE WIPER ALL THIS WINTER. SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
WHEN MAKING A SHARP TURN CONSUMER HEARD A CLICKING NOISE COMING FROM THE SWAY BAR. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
MY 2005 CANYON HAS ONLY 258 MILES ON IT AND THE TRUCK WOBBLES/SHAKES AT ANY SPEED ABOVE 45MPH. I THOUGHT MAYBE IT WAS JUST ME BUT THERE ARE MULTIPLE ON THE CANYONFANS.COM WEBS THAT ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM.*AK
WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE FRONT WHEELS INADVERTENTLY LOCKED. THIS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SPIN. *JB THE PAN ON THE FRONT DIFFRENTIAL HANGS DOWN 1/8 INCH AND THE DIFFRENTIAL OIL LEAKS OUT. *EH *JB
THE CONSUMER INDICATED THAT THE WINDSHIELD GLASS IS TOO FRAGILE AND CRACKS VERY EASILY FROM OUTSIDE FORCES. EXP (CINDER). IT HAS CRACKED TWICE WITHIN A MONTH. *JB
FRONT END ALIGNMENT OUT WORE OUT FRONT TIRES. *NM
REAR VIEW MIRROR SIGHT LINE IS SEVERELY RESTRICTED TO A SMALL CENTERED TUNNEL LIKE AREA. *TS THE CONSUMER STATED, WHEN THE REAR BENCH IS FOLDED DOWN, THE HEAD REST MAKES CONTACT WITH THE DRIVERS SEAT, WHICH DOES NOT CREATE A FLAT PLATFORM AS DESIGNED. MOVING THE FRONT SEAT FORWARD TO ACCOMMODATE THE REAR FOLDING SEAT, COMPRISES THE DRIVERS POSITION BY MAKING IT EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE AND CRAMPED. CONSEQUENTLY, THE FEATURE DOESN'T WORK. THERE WAS NOTHING IN THE MANUAL STATING THERE WAS AN OPTION TO REMOVE THE HEAD RESTS. THE CONSUMER WAS NOT GETTING THE CORRECT MPG. AT NIGHT, WHEN THE CLOCK AND RADIO DASH LIGHTS ARE ON, THE BLUE/GREEN HORIZONTAL DISPLAY LIGHT REFLECT TO THE REAR WINDOW. THE IMAGE IS THEN REFLECTED INTO THE REAR VIEW MIRROR AS A VERTICAL BLUE/GREEN LINE. *JB
