TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC CANYON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR BRAKES LIGHTS FAILED TO OPERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA RECALL ID NUMBER: 06V139000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS:SWITCH). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 53,960. UPDATED 01/03/11
ABS SENSOR FAULT APPEARS AND CONTINUES TO STAY ON. WHEN LIGHT TURNS OFF TERRIBLE NOISE AND VIBRATION OCCURS WHEN BRAKING. I AM CONCERNED FOR THE SAFETY OF MY 3 YEAR OLD AND MYSELF AS THE BRAKES DO NO REACT AS THEY SHOULD. I HAVE TAKEN IT AND HAD THE BRAKES REPLACED, THE SENSORS REPLACED AND THE PROBLEM CONTINUES. AFTER 3 DIFFERENT TIMES IN THE SHOP, I AM SO WORRIED THAT I AM GOING TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT WITH MY TRUCK. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC CANYON. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE PEDAL BEGAN TO SEVERELY PULSATE. IT TOOK AN INCREASED DISTANCE IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. AN ABS FAULT LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD. THE FAILURE HAS SINCE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE EXAMINED FOR THE CAUSE OF FAILURE AND WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,994 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 25,010. UPDATED 11/22/10 *BF UPDATED 11/23/10*JB
2005 GMC CANYON, 4WD. BRAKES LOCK UP AFTER SITTING FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME OR WHEN WET. ABS DOES ACTIVATE, HEAR THE NOISE, REAR BRAKES LOCK. WENT TO SOME OF THE FORUMS FOR THESE VEHICLES, FIND OUT IT IS COMMON. TOOK VEHICLE BACK TO DEALER (BOUGHT IT USED AS CERTIFIED GM) AS THE PARKING BRAKE STUCK ONLY A WEEK AFTER I HAD THE VEHICLE. THEY REPLACED THE CABLE, TOLD ME I WAS SET. I TOOK THE TRUCK HOME, BRAKES WERE VERY "TOUCHY" BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALER A FEW WEEKS LATER (THOUGHT MAYBE IT WAS ME) AND THEY CHARGED ME $100.00 AND SAID THEY ADJUSTED THE REAR BRAKES, NOT UNDER THE WARRANTY. I CALLED THEM AND HAD A BLOW OUT ARGUMENT WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER TO NO AVAIL AS THE BRAKES WERE STILL TOUCHY. I HAVE BEEN LIVING WITH THEM UNTIL TODAY, WHEN IN THE RAIN I HAD TO MAKE A PANIC STOP ON THE HIGHWAY. THE BRAKES MOMENTARILY LOCKED AT 65 MPH, TRUCK STAYED STRAIGHT AND I WAS ABLE TO LET OFF FAST ENOUGH. LUCKILY THE GUY BEHIND ME WAS NOT FOLLOWING TOO CLOSE, OR HE WOULD HAVE BEEN UNDER ME. SITUATION IS GETTING WORSE, I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR 35+ YEARS AND NEVER HAD A VEHICLE LIKE THIS. *TR
DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR FAILURE. VISOR LOOSENS AND DROPS TO COVER VISUAL FIELD IN FRONT OF DRIVER; VISOR FALLS OFF WHILE VEHICLE IN OPERATION CREATING HAZARD BY LANDING ON STEERING WHEEL, ARM, FACE OF DRIVER. I HAVE OWNED 3 GM VEHICLES WITH THE SAME PART THAT FAILS IN THE SAME WAY. PRESENT VEHICLE: PART WAS REPLACED AND THE NEW VISOR FAILED IN THE SAME WAY. GM REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS AS A REPEAT PROBLEM OF THE SAME PART, BUT IT IS. I AM ORIGINAL OWNER ON 2 AND SECOND OWNER ON THE THIRD OF THESE VEHICLES. I HAVE NOT GONE IN YET AND HAVE THE PART; THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. GM ISN'T ADDRESSING IT. PRESENT VEHICLE: 2005 GMC CANYON; PRIOR WERE GMC SAFARI AND PONTIAC GRAND AM. ALL THREE HAD THE SAME VISOR DESIGN AND POINTS OF FAILURE. ALL FAILURES OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING AND CREATED SAFETY HAZARD WITHOUT CAUSING ACCIDENTS, THOUGH HIGH POTENTIAL FOR IT. *TR
ABS FAULT COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY AND GM IS NOT RESPONDING TO OUR CONCERNS. *TR
THE PLUG THAT CONTROLS THE HVAC HAS SHORTED OUT CAUSING BURN MARKS IN THE INSIDE OF THE CONNECTOR. THIS CAUSES THE BLOWER TO ONLY WORK ON THE HIGHEST SETTING (NUMBER 4). I HAD TO REPLACE THE RESISTOR - P/N 15218254, CONNECTOR - P/N 15306069, AND THE WIRING HARNESS - P/N 89019124. I AM NOT SURE HOW MANY TIMES THIS HAS BEEN REPORTED, BUT IT MIGHT NOT BE A BAD IDEA TO CHECK OUT COLORADOFANS.COM. THERE HAS BEEN COMPLAINTS SPANNING BACK TO 2005 UP TO TODAY ABOUT THIS. *TR
MY BRAKE LIGHTS WERE MALFUNCTIONING. THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH HAD TO BE REPLACED. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 GMC CANYON THAT I PURCHASED TWO YEARS AGO USED WITH ABOUT 30K MILES ON IT. IT HAS 60K MILES NOW AND I NOTICED THE BRAKE LIGHTS ARE STAYING ON. I GOOGLED AND FOUND THAT THIS TRUCK IS INCLUDED IN A REGIONAL RECALL FOR THIS MODEL. I CALLED GM AND THEY TOLD ME THE VIN IS NOT IN THE RECALL AND I WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. I AM HAVING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM TO THE LETTER THAT THE RECALL ADDRESSES. NHTSA SHOULD LOOK AT MAKING THIS RECALL A NATIONAL RECALL AND NOT A REGIONAL RECALL. *TR
THE RESISTOR IN THE FAN KEPT BURNING OUT AND HAD BEEN REPLACED. FINALLY IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE WIRING HARNESS WAS MALFUNCTIONING AND REQUIRED REPLACEMENT. I BELIEVE THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT, YET NOTHING WAS DONE BY GM. *TR
TWICE THE RESISTOR ON THE A/C HEATING FAN BLOWER SWITCH HAS MALFUNCTIONED. IT ONLY WORKS ON 4 (LOTS OF NOISE AND STRONG BREEZE). IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE ON HAS 37,000 MILES ON IT. THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT, ALTHOUGH MORE NOT WORKING THAN WORKING BY A MARGIN OF 80% TO 20%. *TR
2005 GMC CANYON DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT BUCKLE DOES NOT STAY LATCHED. JERKING ON THE SEAT BELT WILL UNLATCH THE SEAT BELT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC CANYON. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH IN NORMAL CONDITIONS, THE CONTACT HEARD AN EXCESSIVELY LOUD GRINDING NOISE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE INADEQUATELY SLOWED DOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THAT THE ROTORS WERE DEFECTIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,660 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 32,680. UPDATED 02/02/09. *LJ UPDATED 02/02/09. *JB
2005 GMC CANYON - FIRE AND CROSS CIRCUITS AFTER HAVING BURN WIRE CASE SMELLS,SMOKE, INDICATION OF AIRBAG FAILURE, FAN MOTOR AND INTERIOR LIGHTS REMAINED ON AFTER VEHICLE WAS SHUT DOWN IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT A MAIN WIRE BUNDLE THAT IS SUBJECT TO ABRASION BY COMPONENTS OF THE BRAKE SYSTEM AT A LOCATION WHERE THE BUNDLE GOES THROUGH A HOLE IN THE FIRE WALL. THE VEHICLE OPERATOR MAY NOTICE CHANGES IN THE FAN SPEED AND OTHER DASH INDICATION ON LEFT TURNS, BUMPS, ETC. BEFORE FIRE AND SMOKE. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT THE SHORT AND CROSS SYSTEM POWER FEED WILL NOT CAUSE SYSTEM SAFETY FUSES TO BLOW. OPERATOR MAY ALSO NOTICE THAT THE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM WILL FAIL TO WORK OR THE RANGE WILL DECREASE GREATLY AND THE FAN AND INTERIOR LIGHTS WITH REMAIN ON AFTER THE VEHICLE IS SHUT DOWN AND THE DOOR IS CLOSED. NOTE: THIS WIRE BUNDLE IS NOT PROPERLY PROTECTED FROM DAMAGE BY THE BRAKE SYSTEM PARTS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC CANYON. IN 2007, THE BRAKE LIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING AND THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. THE CONTACT ASSUMED THAT THE REPAIR WAS MADE UNDER THE WARRANTY AND WAS NOT INFORMED OF A RECALL AT THAT TIME. ON DECEMBER 16 2008, THE CONTACT REALIZED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS FAILED AGAIN AFTER SOMEONE ALMOST REAR ENDED HER VEHICLE. SHE RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE PREVIOUS REPAIR WAS PERFORMED ACCORDING TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 06V139000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS:SWITCH). THE DEALER STATED THAT THE DIAGNOSTIC WOULD COST $98, PLUS PARTS AND LABOR TO REPAIR THE FAILURE AGAIN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
WHEN I TRY TO STOP THE VEHICLE AFTER GOING BETWEEN 5-10 MPH, THE ABS SYSTEM "ACTIVATES" AND MAKES A "GRINDING SOUND". IT WILL DO THIS AFTER 3-4 STOPS AND THEN THE ABS FAULT LIGHT WILL COME ON AND THE PROBLEM STOPS. IF I START THE TRUCK AND DRIVE FASTER (15 MPH OR FASTER ) THEN BRAKE, IT DOESN'T DO IT AT THE HIGHER SPEEDS. *TR
REAR BRAKE SHOES BAD AT 45,000. REPLACED DRUMS AND SHOES. NEW DRUMS WARPED AFTER 2 MONTHS AND 2,000 MILES. REPLACED DRUMS AND SHOES AGAIN, SQUEAKS VERY LOUD, DRUMS BAD AGAIN. REPLACED DRUMS WITH GMC DRUMS, BRAKES BAD AGAIN AFTER 1 MONTH. TOOK TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AFTER DEALER WOULD NOT FIX ISSUE. INDEPENDANT REPLACED LEFT REAR HYDRAULIC AND NEW SHOES. STATED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE MUST BE DEFECTIVE. BRAKES ARE NOW SQUEAKING AGAIN AFTER 1 MONTH. ALSO SLIGHT LOCKING UP WHEN BACKING UP AFTER RAIN, COLD, MOIST WEATHER. *TR
ABS FAILURE. 3 MONTHS AFTER MFG WARRANTY EXPIRED THE ABS FAILURE LIGHT CAME ON. ABS SYSTEM ACTIVATES RANDOMLY EVEN WHEN NOT BRAKING, BUZZED, ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS ON, THEN ABS FAILURE DISPLAYED. STAYED ON UNTIL IT RANDOMLY TURNED OFF BY ITSELF. DAILY REPEATING OF PROBLEM. CODES SAID ABS SENSOR FAILURE. HAD IT REPLACED, NO RESOLUTION. PROBLEM KEPT HAPPENING. HAD ENTIRE FRONT HUB ASSEMBLY REPLACED WITH NEW ABS SENSOR INSTALLED AT FACTORY, STILL SAME PROBLEM. HAD WIRING CHECKED, ALL OK. PERSISTENT PROBLEM FOR YEARS. GAVE UP ON GM EVER FIXING IT. APPARENTLY ON GM CANYON/COLORADO FORUMS THIS IS A MAJOR PERSISTENT DANGEROUS PROBLEM. MOST USERS OPT TO DISABLE THE ABS SYSTEM BECAUSE GM CANNOT PROVIDE A SOLUTION. SOUNDS LIKE ANOTHER OF GM'S BRILLIANT ENGINEERS DESIGN FAILURES. SHOCKED NO ONE HAS BEEN KILLED YET. ALL THESE VEHICLES ON THE ROAD WITH FAILING OR DISABLED ABS SYSTEMS AND GM HASN'T A CLUE. *TR
APPARENTLY A CONTINUING PROBLEM WITH DEFECTIVE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCHES ON MY 2005 GMC CANYON. BRAKE LIGHTS CEASE TO WORK AS DOES THE CRUISE CONTROL. I AM COMPLAINING AGAINST GM, AND D&J AUTOMOTIVE IN LOUISBURG N.C. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THAT THE SWITCH WILL BE REPLACED. THE FIRST TIME WAS UNDER WARRANTY, THE SECOND UNDER RECALL, AND AS OF NOW, THERE IS NO GUARANTEE THAT I WILL NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR IT THIS TIME. UNACCEPTABLE!!!!!!!! *TR
AIR CONDITIONING FAN ABRUPTLY STOPPED WORKING ON ALL FAN SPEEDS EXCEPT "4", THE HIGHEST POSITION. CHECKED INTERNET FOR POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS AND FOUND THAT THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS FAILURES EXACTLY LIKE MINE. ALL INVOLVED THE "BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR ASSEMBLY, CONNECTOR AND/OR WIRING HARNESS" SHORTING OUT. SCORTCHING THE CONNECTORS, RESISTOR ASSEMBLY AND CAUSING THE PLASTIC TO MELT/BURN. GM PARTS AT LOCAL DEALERSHIP HAD REPLACEMENT PARTS AND I WAS ABLE TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. SPEAKING A GM SERVICE ADVISOR, HE CONFIRMED THAT THERE ARE NUMEROUS REPAIR PROBLEMS WITH THESE PARTS ON THE GMC CANYON/ CHEVROLET COLORADO 2004-2007. BUT NO EXPLANATION FOR WHY THEY ARE FAILING. NUMEROUS INTERNET REPORTS WITH PHOTO'S SHOWING DAMAGE AND EXPLAINING PROBLEM MOST REQUIRING MULTIPLE OR REPEATED REPAIRS. OLD PARTS ARE AVAILABLE. *TR
I OWN A 2005 GMC CANYON. THREE WEEKS OUT OF WARRANTY THE ABS SYSTEM BEGAN TO MALFUNCTION. THE ABS WOULD KICK IN FOR NO REASON. BECAUSE IT WAS ACCORDING TO GM OUT OPF THE GUARANTEE PERIOD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO FOR ME. MY PRIVATE GARAGE TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE CANYON AND USED A WORK AROUND TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM BY DISABLING THE ABS SYSTEM BECAUSE OF THE HIGH COST OF REPLACING THE SENSORS WITCH WOULD PROBABLY BE DAMAGED AGAIN WHEN REPLACING THE BRAKE PADS. *TR
MY AIR CONDITIONING SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING EXCEPT FOR ON 4 (THE HIGHEST SPEED) DEALERSHIP TOLD ME IT WAS THE"BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR ASSEMBLY, THEY REPAIRED IT AND WITHIN 10 DAYS THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED. THEY HAD TO KEEP MY TRUCK OVERNIGHT EACH TIME SO THEY COULD ORDER THE PART. I HAD TO PAY $200 TO GET THIS REPAIR DONE. *TR
OVER THE PAST 5 YEARS I HAVE HAD TO PLACE MY BLOWER MOTOR, BLOWER MOTOR'S RESISTOR, AND THE CONNECTORS FOR EACH OF THESE PARTS TO BE ABLE TO FIX MY AC. I'VE SEARCHED THE WEB, TALKED TO MECHANICS, HELD DISCUSSIONS WITH VARIOUS AUTO-PARTS EMPLOYEES, AND EVEN TALKED TO SEVERAL CHEVY/GMC DEALERSHIPS, AND FOUND THAT EACH OF THEM HAVE ALL SEEN OR HERD ABOUT THIS PROBLEM MANY TIMES IN THE PAST. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT SHOULDN'T BE TOLERATED AND REALLY NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. THE ISSUES I HAVE SEEN ARISE WITH THIS PROBLEM ON MY PERSONAL VEHICLE COULD VERY EASILY BECOME A FIRE HAZARD BECAUSE OF THIS FAULTY ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT. I WOULD JUST LIKE TO GO ONE YEAR IN THIS TRUCK WITHOUT HAVING TO WORRY ABOUT MY AC'S BLOWER MOTOR GOING OUT ON ME. SOMETHING REALLY SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT THIS. THE GMC NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE PRODUCTS THAT THEY PUT OUT. THE PROBLEMS FOR THIS ISSUE FIRST STARTED AROUND 50,000 MILES AND I HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE REOCCUR EVERY 10-15,000 MILES EVER SINCE. *TR
THIS IS REGARDING CONTINUED ISSUES WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID 06V139000 AND NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE05065 AND THE FAULTY BRAKE LAMP SWITCH ON THIS VEHICLE. THE BRAKE LAMP SWITCH ORIGINALLY FAILED AROUND 2005 AND WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. IT FAILED AGAIN AROUND 2006 AND WAS REPLACED VIA RECALL. THIS SWITCH FAILED A 3RD TIME IN OCTOBER OF 2008 AND THE DEALER WOULD NOT FIX UNDER WARRANTY AS THEY CLAIMED IT HAD ALREADY BEEN DONE SO I PAID OUT OF POCKET FOR THE REPAIR. THIS SAME BRAKE SWITCH LAMP FAILED AGAIN ON 05/26/2009 AFTER LESS THAN 8 MONTHS AND FEWER THAN 8,000 MILES, AGAIN LEAVING ME WITHOUT FUNCTIONING BRAKE LIGHTS. I WILL RETURN TO THE DEALER TO HAVE IT REPLACED AGAIN, BUT THAT IS NOT AN ACCEPTABLE OUTCOME. IT HAS BECOME PAINFULLY OBVIOUS THAT GM HAS FAILED TO FULFILL ITS OBLIGATION TO FIX THIS DANGEROUS SITUATION IN THAT IT NOT ONLY LEAVES ME WITHOUT FUNCTIONING BRAKE LIGHTS MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT FOR OTHER DRIVERS TO KNOW THAT I AM STOPPING, BUT THERE IS NO WARNING THAT THIS FAILURE HAS OCCURRED! I RISK MY LIFE EVERY TIME I GET BEHIND THE WHEEL OF THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE THE ENGINEERS AT GM SEEM INCAPABLE OF PERFECTING A $5 SWITCH THAT IS PART OF AN AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY THAT HAS BEEN IN EXISTENCE FOR NEARLY 100 YEARS (BRAKE LIGHTS). GENERAL MOTORS MAY HAVE CONDUCTED A RECALL, BUT THEY HAVE NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM. AFTER GETTING THE LAMP SWITCH REPLACED FOR THE 4TH TIME I WILL REQUEST THE FAULTY PART AND WILL GLADLY SUPPLY IT TO THE NHTSA IF REQUESTED. *TR
I'M NOT SURE IF THIS IS THE CORRECT COMPLAINT AREA, BUT THIS IS MY COMPLAINT. RECENTLY MY AIRBAG READINESS LIGHT CAME ON AND CONTINUED TO STAY ON. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE COST WOULD BE 81.00 DOLLARS JUST TO LOOK AT IT AND THEN WHO KNOWS WHAT THE END COST WOULD BE. THIS IS A 2005 GMC CANYON AND I GUESS I BELIEVE GM SHOULD TAKE CARE OF THIS. I'M NOT SURE IF THIS IS HAPPENING TO OTHERS WITH THIS MODEL, BUT I WOULD LIKE YOUR TAKE ON THIS PROBLEM. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC CANYON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENGINE WOULD IDLE VERY ROUGHLY AND HE COULD FEEL HARD VIBRATIONS. HE RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM THE MANUFACTURER, WHICH STATED THAT THEY WOULD EXTEND HIS WARRANTY DUE TO THE MALFUNCTION. HOWEVER, ONCE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE AND MAKE ADDITIONAL REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS LESS THAN 1,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 21,000.
RECENTLY PURCHASED USED 2005 GMC CANYON, TWO DAYS AFTER PURCHASE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED, THE TRUCK DID NOT RUN ROUGH OR MAKE NOISES. FIVE DAYS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED...DIAGNOSTICS DETERMINED CATALYTIC CONVERTER, OXYGEN SENSOR AND EXHAUST INTAKE WERE ALL RELATED. ALL REPAIRS NOW COMPLETE AND APPEAR TO BE NO OTHER ISSUES AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE 3 DAYS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC CANYON. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH ON A WET ROAD, THE WHEELS SPUN AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO TAILSPIN. THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A TREE AND DAMAGED THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A BODY SHOP AND THEY REPAIRED THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO OTHER REPAIRS DONE TO THE VEHICLE. AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE, THE CONTACT ASKED IF THE VEHICLE HAD POST-TRACTION. THE DEALER STATED THAT IT DID; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT LATER DISCOVERED THAT THE VEHICLE DID NOT HAVE POST-TRACTION. WHENEVER HE DRIVES THE VEHICLE IN THE RAIN, HE HAS TO DRIVE APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH TO AVOID TAIL SPINNING. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 38,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000. TL* - THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE HAS A SAFETY RECALL ON THE BREAKS OF HIS 2005 GMC CANYON (NO. 06030). THE CONTACT STATED THAT ON MANY OCCASIONS HIS BRAKES HAVE LOCKED UP ON HIM WHEN BACKING UP. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HIGH HUMIDITY IN TEXAS WHERE HE RESIDES 6 MONTHS OUT OF THE YEAR IS WHAT CAUSES HIS BRAKES TO LOCK UP. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE BRAKES SQUEAK AND SQUEAL. THE DEALERSHIP LOOKED AT HIS CAR AND SAID THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT, SO THE CONTACT HAS NOT HAD ANY REPAIRS.
MY 2005 GMC CANYON STARTED HAVING A GROANING NOISE WHEN TURNING SHARPLY EITHER WAY FROM A START OR MOVING. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHO KEPT IT AND CALLED TO TELL ME IT WAS DEFECTIVE BODY BOLTS, FOR WHICH THERE WAS A BULLETIN. THE PARTS HAD TO BE ORDERED DIRECTLY FROM GMC. THERE IT SITS A WEEK LATER, AND I AM WITHOUT A VEHICLE, AND I AM VERY UNHAPPY. GMC NEEDS TO OVERNIGHT PARTS. *JB

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THERE WAS A LOUD SQUEAKING NOISE, WHILE APPLYING BRAKE PRESSURE AT ANY SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE BRAKE PADS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED.
BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH FAILED ON MY 2005 CANYON (BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD NOT SHUT OFF). COMPLAINED TO DEALER WHEN IT WAS TAKEN IN FOR INSPECTION A FEW DAYS LATER. THEY "ADJUSTED" SWITCH PASSED THE TRUCK IN INSPECTION. A WEEK LATER PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN. WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF A RECALL. HAD TO FIND THAT OUT IN PERSONAL RESEARCH. HAD TO BUY THE PART MYSELF SINCE NO ONE WOULD ACKNOWLEDGE THE RECALL AND DID NOT HAVE PARTS. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED OVER NIGHT THE BRAKE LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE NEXT DAY THE BATTERY WAS JUMP STARTED BEFORE THE VEHICLE STARTED. DURING INSPECTION THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE DRIVER SIDE REAR BRAKE LIGHT LENS WAS MELTED HOWEVER, THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH CONTINUED TO FUNCTION. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL, # 06V139000, REGARDING THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL.

I HAD JUST BOUGHT A USED / REPOSESSED 2005 GMC CANYON JANUARY 18, 2006 WITH 9100 APPROX MILES ON IT. MAY THE 3RD 2006 WHILE GOING ON INTERSTATE 20/59 IN BIRMINGHAM ALABAMA APPROX 10:45 AM, THE DRIVER SIDE REAR TIRE SHREDDED ON THE INTERSTATE WHILE I WAS DRIVING 75 MPH IN A 70 ZONE. THERE WAS NOTHING IN THE HIGHWAY STRUCK ON A SUNNY DAY. HOWEVER I MANAGED TO GET THE VEHICLE OFF THE INTERSTATE AND TO A TIRE REPAIR PLACE WHERE UPON INSPECTING THE BLACK RUBBER TORE UP THE REAR BED PANEL AND DAMAGE THE UNDERNEATH TIRE WELD AREA AND THE SUPER STRUCTURE. GMC WAS NOTIFIED AND THE REPRESENTATIVE SAID SOMEONE WITH KNOWLEDGE OF TIRES WOULD HAVE TO SAY THE TIRE WAS DEFECTIVE. AT THE AUTO DEALER BODY SHOP THE ADJUSTER PERSON COULDN'T MAKE A DETERMINATION WITH THE TIRE IN FRONT OF HIM, HE DID TAKE PICTURES, I ALSO WENT TO A TIRE SPECIALIST FOR THE AS 60 GENERAL TIRE P225 HE SAID THE SAME THING DUE TO THE DAMAGE. SO I AM AT A STAND STILL NEVERTHELESS THIS HAS COST ME $500.00 DOLLARS ON THE DEDUCTIBLE FOR MY INSURANCE CO. NATIONWIDE TO PICK UP THE BILL. I EVEN TOLD THE GMC REP I HAD A DREAM AFTER THAT INCIDENT FRIDAY NIGHT INTO SATURDAY MORNING THAT THE FRONT TIRE SHREDDED AND I FLIPPED THE CAR AND LOST CONTROL AND CRASH ON THE SAME STRETCH OF INTERSTATE. I TOLD HIM TOO THAT IF THAT WAS TO HAPPEN AND I SURVIVE THE MEDIA WOULD BE NOTIFIED. UNLESS THIS HAS HAPPEN TO YOU, YOU DON'T KNOW THE ANXIETY OF DRIVING WONDERING WHEN THIS WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. AFTER ALL THE VEHICLE ONLY HAD BEEN DRIVEN APPROX 3000 MILES WHEN THE INCIDENT HAPPEN AND HAS LEFT ME WITH THE FEELING OF WANTING TO GET A FOREIGN TRUCK. BRAND NEW TRUCK, HAVE OWNED ALMOST 1 YEAR. HAD TO TAKE TRUCK IN FOR SLOW ACCELERATION PROBLEM AS WELL AS HARD TO CRANK. COULD NOT PULL OUT INTO TRAFFIC, HAD TO WAIT UNTIL THERE WAS NO ONE ON THE ROAD BECAUSE I WOULD TRY TO ACCELERATE THEN IT WOULD STOP/PAUSE FOR A SECOND THEN START TO GO AGAIN. TOOK MY TRUCK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHICH THEY FOUND ONE OF THE HEADS IN THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. (WHICH AT FIRST THEY TOLD ME I HAD A SLOW MISFIRE ON PISTON #2 AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE A SPRING AND A COIL) A MONTH LATER I FINALLY GOT MY TRUCK BACK. ONE WEEK LATER I HEARD A KNOCKING NOISE SO I TOOK MY TRUCK BACK TO DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD MY OIL WAS LOW SO THEY TOPPED IT OFF (DIDN'T WORK BY THE WAY). STILL HAVING HARD TIME CRANKING PERIODICALLY THROUGHOUT THE DAY. TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY KEPT MY TRUCK FOR 4 DAYS AND SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT EXCEPT A LOOSE STARTER BOLT THAT THEY TIGHTENED. TRUCK STILL CRANKING FUNNY BUT WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING FURTHER THEY COULD DO FOR ME. *JB
I HAVE A 2005 GMC CANYON WITH 44K MILES ON IT. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE CAM SHAFT SENSORS AND CAM SHAFT SOLENOID SO FAR, AND TODAY AFTER ONLY 150 MILES AFTER REPLACEMENT OF THE SOLENOID I AGAIN HAVE TO HAVE IT REPLACED. GMC STOCKS THIS PART WHICH MY MECHANIC TELLS ME THAT MEANS THAT THEY KNOW THAT THEY ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH IT. I TOOK IT TO CARL EDWARDS CHEVY BUT THEY WERE SO RUDE THAT I LEFT AND TOOK IT BACK TO MY MECHANIC TO REPAIR. IT HAS GONE FROM 27 MPG TO 16 MPG AND I CAN SMELL GASOLINE. MY MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT IT IS PUSHING TOO MUCH GAS INTO THE INTAKES AND THAT IT COULD CAUSE A FIRE. *JB
EARLIER I COMPLAINED THAT I HAD TO REPLACE THE CAM SHAFT SOLENOID FOR THE SECOND TIME, I WAS MISTAKEN IN THAT COMPLAINT, NOW I AM TOLD THAT IT COULD BE AN ACTUATOR, CAM SHAFT PROBLEM OR SOME OTHER RELATED PROBLEM. GETTING THE SAME ERROR CODES AS LAST 2 TIMES IN THE SHOP P014 P017 AND P300. ENGINE IS TILL SPUTTERING AND DYING, PUSHING TOO MUCH FUEL. *NM

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE THE OUTSIDE CONDITIONS WERE FREEZING THE LINKAGE FOR THE TRANSMISSION FROZE AS WELL. THIS RESULTED IN THE INABILITY TO CHANGE GEARS UNTIL THE ICE MELTS. THE CONTACT STATED BY THE TIME THE VEHICLE WOULD ARRIVE AT THE DEALERSHIP, THE ICE WOULD MELT. THEREFORE, THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN SEEN BY THE DEALERSHIP.
I HAVE A 2005 GMC CANYON 4WD CC P/U . THIS P/U WAS PURCHASED NEW IN MAY 2005. THE WINDOW STICKER CLEARLY LISTS AN AUTO LOCKING DIFFERENTIAL UNDER STANDARD EQUIPMENT. IN NOVEMBER 2005 GMC SENT A LETTER TO ME WHICH STATED THAT THIS VEHICLE DOES NOT HAVE A AUTO LOCKING DIFFERENTIAL. AS OF THIS DATE (2-2-06) GMC ADMITS THAT THE WINDOW STICKER IS WRONG, BUT OTHER OPTIONS WERE ADDED TO MAKE UP THE DIFFERENCE. I DON'T KNOW HOW THIS COULD HAVE BEEN DONE. GMC ALSO IS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING TO CORRECT THIS MISTAKE MADE BY THEM. *JB

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A BODY SHOP FOR INSURANCE INSPECTION. THE INSURANCE COMPANY DEEMED THE VEHICLE TOTALED, BUT WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHY THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY.
