NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2024 GMC Canyon. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
LED Headlamps blink off and back on in a fraction of a second. Seems to be related to low beam setting. Seems to not be related to auto-dimming functionality. Seems to be a narrow build date window from late Spring 2024 thru June 2024. Occurs when vehicle is moving or parked. Can be replicated in daylight by manually turning headlights on in the control center. GM documented with Document ID 6691954 "#PIT6203: Headlamp or DRL Flicker or Flash (July 16, 2024) Possible hazards include oncoming drivers being flashed from flicker. Oncoming drivers thinking they're being signaled by the flicker. Pedestrians or cyclists thinking the flash or flicker is signaling them to proceed and that vehicle operator will yield. Possible that headlamps will stay off when they flicker, rendering the driver unable to see during night driving. Dealerships are unable to repair as GM has not come up with a solution. Please consider escalating this issue to a formal recall due to dangers outlined above.
Headlights blinking/flickering every 5 seconds to 45 seconds in between.
Headlights flickering/blinking every 1-3 minutes intervals when on. This bothers oncoming traffic.
Headlights have a frequent flickering issue. They are constantly flickering on and off. Truck only has 600 miles on it.
Headlights blinking on and off all the time. supposedly parts or on back order with no time line.
Headlights blink every 2 to 3 minutes.
This vehicle has an intermittent headlight flicker that is a distraction to myself and other drivers. GM is aware of the issue but has yet to provide a resolution.
Both headlights blink randomly. Causes unsafe driving conditions at night as well as possibility for road rage interaction at any time.
Headlights Flickering frequently while driving or parked. Causes other drivers in front of me to think I am high beaming them or flashing my lights at them. Causes quick moments of darkness and is disorienting when driving at night. No warning lights or signs of damage. This issue has been reported by many other vehicle owners and currently GM has not published a solution. Other vehicle owners reported that dealerships did not resolve the problem after replacing the headlight module and updating firmware. The solution is believed to be to replace the headlight assemble due to bad diodes during manufacturing. Headlights have done this since I bought the car.
The Headlights flicker, mostly noticeable at night. They do not remain a steady beam of illumination. This is a major distraction and noticeable by other drivers as well as I have been asked not so kindly by another driver, why I keep flashing my lights at them. I have had this vehicle at the dealership for over a month, waiting for a repair. This is a brand new vehicle and should not have this kind of defect in the lighting. I need my vehicle fixed.
Headlights flicker
Headlights flicker approximately every 30 seconds. Creates unsafe driving conditions and is a distraction to other divers. Other drivers assume I am flashing my headlights at them. Dealer has not been able to fix the issue. This occurs whenever the lights are on.
Headlight flicker, affects day time running light, low beam, high beam and possibly taillights. Lighter flicker off and on periodically about every 1-2 minutes consistently regardless of driving or parked, and regardless if the lights are switched on automatically or manually. Problem has been continuous since purchase of vehicle 1 month ago.
Both front headlights flicker every few seconds
The headlights will flicker for a split second every 1-5 minutes, affecting both headlamps. While this issue does not make the car unusable, it is not expected of a brand new vehicle and could be interpreted by other drivers as aggressive signaling that leads to potential road rage escalations.
I noticed within a day or so of receiving my new 2024 GMC Cayon that the headlights would randomly flicker. No specific pattern or time interval just random. When I was finally able to get the truck in to the dealership for service, they reviewed the issue and called me the following day to inform me that couldn't repair it. Seems that GMC is aware and they currently have no fix since all headlights they have in stock potentially have the same issue. It seems obvious to me that driving at night with headlights that will not stay on is a huge safety issue and needless to say I do not want to cause an accident or get cited for an issue the manufacturer has no repair for. Leaving my only vehicle parked at home till a fix is found is not an option either.
Headlights began flickering two days after purchase of vehicle. Infotainment screen that operates the headlights, as there is no physical headlight knobs or buttons, also malfunction and is inoperable. So I can not turn my headlights on or off, they're set to auto and I can not adjust it. Service department at my dealership has been able to replicate my issues and are trying to fix them, but parts availability is an issue. GM has informed me that the parts are delayed with no eta of when they would be available. Issues with the headlights flickering could lead other drivers to think I'm flashing my lights at them as I'm telling them to go ahead and that could cause a wreck. Also with the flickering there is a chance that the lights could completely cut off or go out and if I'm driving at night that would be a very big issue. Especially since the Infotainment screen that I need to operate the headlight functions is also inoperable. The Infotainment screen is also on national backorder per GM. GM documented with Document ID 6691954 "#PIT6203: Headlamp or DRL Flicker or Flash (July 16, 2024) Possible hazards include oncoming drivers being flashed from flicker. Headlights in on position, every few minutes both left and right headlights along with DRLs flicker off and back on very quickly.
Headlights and DRLs flicker at night when in on position. GMC with no fix and no timeline as to when. Safety issue driving at night. First started at 49 miles on odometer. Now at 1800 miles and still ongoing.

The contact owns a 2024 GMC Canyon. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the front headlights were flickering intermittently. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure was acknowledged; however, the contact was informed that mechanics were not authorized by the manufacturer to repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure but offered no assistance. Upon investigation, the contact discovered Technical Service Bulletin: PIT6103A; which was linked to the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 50.
When the right turn signal cancels after completing a right turn, the left turn signal activates, flashing 3 times. This appears to be the result of a defective design with the turn signal level. The dealer has acknowledged the problem and has stated that there is a bulletin from GM from several months ago which does not provide any resolution to the issue. This is a safety issue since the turn signals are not operating correctly, which could confuse other drivers.
The headlights flicker off and on every 30 seconds or so while driving or stationary. This occurs no matter what setting the headlight are in. Other drivers think I am flashing my lights at them and have responded negatively by brake checking me in traffic, flashing their high beams at me when oncoming etc. I am worried that the lights may flicker off and stay off while driving at night. The dealer has recreated the problem but still has no fix. My truck has been in the dealer's shop since mid July.
Headlights are flickering intermittently, causing oncoming drivers to think they are being bright lighted. Which causes them to bright light me. Also, headlight flickering causes trailed vehicle drivers to think I am signaling them to stop. Both situations are hazardous, in my opinion.
Front low beam headlights will flicker on and off for a second while driving or sitting at a stop in auto or constant on mode. They will flicker every 2-3 minutes causing cars to flash and brake check you as they thing you are flashing your lights at them.
Lights flicker when driving at night. Drivers think I am flashing, flicker causes a distraction on the road. GM service denies the issue. No warnings. Happens every 5 minutes.
HEADLIGHTS FLICKER OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN INTERMITTENTLY / OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD THINK YOU'RE FLASHING THEM / KNOWN ISSUE PUBLICLY VEHICLE IN DEALERSHIP WITH NO SOLUTION FOR OVER A MONTH / NO WARNING LIGHTS OR CODES TO ACKNOWLEDGE
The headlights flicker, randomly turning off/on, hi low not sure but it’s definitely distracting and annoying to other drivers
Front head light flickering
LED Headlamps blink off and back on in a fraction of a second. Occurs when vehicle is moving or parked. Can be replicated in daylight by manually turning headlights on in the control center. Oncoming drivers thinking they're being signaled by the flicker. Pedestrians or cyclists thinking the flash or flicker is signaling them to proceed and that vehicle operator will yield. Possible that headlamps will stay off when they flicker, rendering the driver unable to see during night driving. Since the PIT6203 was created (with the recommended action of replacing headlamp assemblies), GMC is now advising to NOT replace them, but offers no further solution. I've received no official word from GMC or the dealership on that, but while they explore a solution, I'm driving a brand new vehicle with a potentially dangerous manufacturing / build flaw. Please consider escalating this issue to a formal recall due to dangers outlined above.
Since new headlights have flicker. Took to dealership, they stated that this is a known problem with the 2024 headlights and they have no repair and gave the truck back. NO DATE OF REPAIR PROMISED OR IMPLIED. The headlights are not just an immediate danger on for driver in truck but on coming traffic. I have been pulled over for "flashing" a police officer, flip off from other drivers that think I am flashing them. Please help the entire 2024 canyon population as this is a common problem.
Headlights blink or flicker off and on. Both will do it but not at same time. Seems to be only low beams and happens driving or parked. Have been to dealer and they saw it happening. GM is aware and have a bulletin #PIT6203 Headlamp or DRL Flicker or Flash (July 16, 2024) and #PIT6203A ( July 30, 2024 ) Concerns are other drivers or pedestrians think I'm flashing my lights at them signaling to pull out or walk in front of me. I'm afraid one of these times they will not turn back on.
Headlights have intermittent lighting failure resulting in brief flashes/blinking of the lights. There are multiple complaints and this is known by GMC, but there is no current resolution.
Headlights flicker repeatedly while driving. About every 1-2 minutes
Every few minutes the headlights flicker. GM does not have a fix for this currently.
Since buying this truck new in june of 24 the headlights will flicker. Randomly as you drive or when parked the headlights will turn off for a second then come back on. Often at night the lights flicker numerous times
Headlights frequently flickering. Flickering varies from 30 seconds to 5 minutes in between. Very random and unpredictable. Service department at the dealership was able to replicate the issue. They found a bulletin, PIT6203 that said to replace the headlights, so they ordered new ones. After three weeks I called the dealer and they said GM cancelled the order because replacing the headlights did not resolve the issue. Headlights flickering has caused other drivers to flash their lights at me. Concerned that other drivers may see my lights flicker and assume I’m giving them to go ahead causing them to pull in front of me causing an accident. Additionally there is a concern my lights completely going out while driving.
Headlights turn off and on randomly every few seconds. No fault lights on dashboard. Dealership confirmed issue exists. Dealership was advised to replace control module by GM. This did not fix the issue. Advised to change headlight assemblies but they are backordered with no ETA. This issue causes confusion to other drivers and is a safety hazard while driving at night. No recall issued yet.
The valve body on GM's 8 speed transmission is a known fail point for many GM truck owners. I believe the NHTSA should investigate this for the extreme risk of an accident. My truck has been inoperable for a month awaiting a back ordered part. When driven, the truck displays erratic behavior and will downshift and decelerate rapidly and without warning. The risk of being rear-ended is very high.
I was driving at night and noticed both headlights would flicker off and then back on. Oncoming drivers on the highway were flashing their highbeams at me because they thought I was flashing my lights at them. My girlfriend was driving her new motorcycle home in front of me and had to pull over to ask why I kept flashing my lights at her. It was a very hazardous situation. The dealership ordered two new headlights for my vehicle and took several weeks to repair it.
Lights flickering while driving at night
LED headlamps on both sides of vehicle routinely "flicker" / "blink". The effect is such that oncoming traffic assumes you are "flashing" them or "high beaming" them. Have had several encounters with motorists honking at me or yelling as I pass by. I was also break checked by a vehicle in front of me on the highway when driving at night. These incidents have made driving at night very stressful..... and potentially dangerous. Dealership has been notified and initially stated that they would replace headlamps and ordered those items. I day before my appointment , they cancelled and said that GM was no longer replacing headlamps and was "working on a fix" PIT # 6203A. No time table has been given. This issue is apparently widespread on 2024 Canyons built between March and June of 2024.
The headlights are malfunctioning where they periodically flicker and there is a loss of lighting. The frequency seems to increase the longer the headlights are on and in use. The loss of lighting during the event increases risks of driving at night and impairing oncoming traffic. Yes, the problem has been confirmed and documented by my dealer, Ideal Buick GMC in Frederick MD Yes, Dealer inspected the problem, replaced parts but the problem still exists. No other indications of failure. Symptoms appeared immediately after taking delivery of vehicle.
Headlight flickering causing vehicles infront of my truck to slow down or break. Been to dealership multiple times for headlight problem. Recent headlight assembly replacement. Headlight flickering still present in truck after headlight assembly replacement. Blind spot indicators intermittently work, on highway, had couple times I relied on indicators that did not illuminate. Dealer could not find issue but same day I picked up truck from service, blind spots weren’t picking up some vehicles either passing or getting passed. Steering wheel noise when turning. Dealer took part steering column, but could not find a problem. Was told it was just sound from motor in steering column. Test drive exact model truck and year, no noise from that truck while turning steering wheel
When On, the normal beam headlights randomly flicker off and back on very quickly. This occurs when headlight control is in "Auto" or "Manual On". Its periodicity varies. The flicker is so fast that driver visibility is not impacted much at this time. However, on coming vehicles and vehicle in front of my truck are getting lights flickered at them. This can lead to confusion, annoyance and road rage. The primary impact is getting brights flashed towards me, which does inhibit my vision for a time.
Headlights are flickering with no available fix to the issue.
Headlights are continuously flickering and GM does not have a solution. This is concerning because drivers think I am constantly flashing my lights at them which has resulted in them flashing their brights at me. This could cause an accident, so I am very concerned about driving the truck at night. GM needs to address this immediately before someone is hurt.
Headlights blink intermittently and separately. Have taken to dealer but was told GM does not have a fix at this time. Have noticed numerous complaints of same problem from other GM Canyon and Colorado owners.
Headlights flick intermittently
Adaptive Cruise Control has applied brakes multiple times while cruise has been sent at speeds ranging from 55-75 MPH. Vehicle aggressively slowed down 10-20 MPH then picked up speed. No vehicles in sight ahead of vehicle, aggressively applied braking without warning. Aggressive braking could cause traffic behind vehicle to crash into me while driving at high speeds. Multiple other reports of this happening to other 2023-2024 GMC Canyon owners based on comments on Facebook and Reddit with acknowledgement from the manufacturer that this is a know issue they currently are trying to resolve. Issue not isolated to this vehicle. Vehicle has not been inspected by Manufacturer or problem been reproduced dealership. Vehicle goes in for service next week, meanwhile cruise is not being used as it is a safety hazard. No collision warning or any other warnings experienced with this issue. Issue first happened on day 1 of vehicle ownership and has happened 2-3 other times with one instance of it braking and accelerating 3 times over a 2-3 mile stretch of highway with cruise set at 75MPH with vehicle slowing down to around 55MPH before resuming set speed.
