THE FUEL SYSTEM STARTED TO MALFUNCTION AROUND THE FIRST WEEK OF SEPT 2010. I WAS GOING ON VACATION STOPPED TO GET GAS, AFTER FILLING UP THE GAS GAUGE READ EMPTY AND THE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER SHUTTING THE ENVOY OFF AND RESTARTING IT THE GAUGE SEEMED TO WORK. AS THE DAYS WENT ON THE GAUGE COMPLETELY QUIT WORKING AND THE LOW FUEL LIGHT HAS REMAINED ON. I RESET MY TRIP METER AFTER EVERY FILL UP, HOW ANNOYING. I AM NOT THE ONLY CONSUMER WITH THIS COMPLAINT. I REC'D A LETTER THAT GM STATES ITS THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR. THE ONLY FIX A NEW FUEL PUMP FROM A DEALER AT 50% OFF? WHO CAN AFFORD DEALER PRICES? THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A DEFECT THAT GM IS FAILING TO OWN UP TO. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED. *KB
THE FUEL GAUGE BECAME ERRATIC. THE FIRST THING THAT HAPPENED WAS WHEN THE FUEL TANK WAS FILLED, THE GAS GAUGE WENT TO EMPTY AND THE FUEL LIGHT CAME ON AS IF THERE WERE NO FUEL. IT REMAINED THAT WAY FOR SOME TIME. IT THEN WOULD FLUCTUATE WILDLY UNTIL A LARGE AMOUNT OF GAS HAD BEEN USED. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 GMC ENVOY XL-SLT AND THE FUEL GAGE HAS STOP WORKING PROPERLY I HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH FUEL IS IN THE ENVOY I AM AFRAID THAT IT WILL CAUSE A SYSTEM FAILURE AND SHUT DOWN IN THE HIGHWAY UNEXPECTED AND CAUSE A COLLISION, THEIR NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THESE VEHICLES TO HAVE THE PROBLEM FIX FROM WHAT I HAVE READ ON THE INTERNET THEIR ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVING THIS PROBLEM . *TR
MY FUEL GAUGE STOPPED WORKING IN MY 2005 ENVOY AT APPROXIMATELY 40,000 MILES. THE FUEL GAUGE INDICATES THAT THE CAR IS OUT OF FUEL AFTER FILL THE TANK FULL. I HAVE NOTICED NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE ALSO RECEIVED A LETTER FROM GM STATING THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND WILL COVER UP TO 50% OF REPAIR AS MY WARRANT HAS EXPIRED. THE PROBLEM WITH ONLY COVERING 50% IS PAYING WITH FOR MY HALF OF THE REPAIR. I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO COME UP WITH APPROXIMATELY THE $200 FOR THE REPAIR THEREFORE UNABLE TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. I SPOKE WITH GM CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT WAS MY OPTION. WHEN I ASKED WHY THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL ON THE PROBLEM THEY INFORMED ME THAT I SHOULD CONTACT THE NHTSA. MY CONCERN IS THAT I LIVE IN A STATE WITH COLD WEATHER THAT REQUIRES THAT CAR TO WARM UP PRIOR TO DRIVING. SO I WAS KEEPING TRACK OF MY MILEAGE KNOWING WHEN I NEEDED TO FILL UP WITH GAS. ALTHOUGH, THIS WILL NOT BE ACCURATE IN WINTER AND AFRAID THAT MY SPOUSE (PRIMARY DRIVER OF THIS VEHICLE) WILL GET STRANDED ON THE ROAD. I HOPE IF/WHEN THIS HAPPENS IT IS NOT DURING A SNOW STORM WHERE AN AUTO ACCIDENT WILL THEN BECOME LIKELY. WHEN TALKING TO GM ALONG WITH THE FUEL SENSOR I EXPRESSES CONCERNS ABOUT OTHER ISSUES THAT I HAVE BEEN HAVING. FOR EXAMPLE, MY LICENSE PLATE LIGHT STOPPED WORKING, CHANGED THE BULB AND CHECKED THE FUSES AND STILL DOES NOT WORK; ALONG WITH HEAT ISSUES AND WAS INFORMED TO TAKE IN FOR DIAGNOSIS. *TR
FOR THE LAST FEW MONTHS MY 2005 GMC ENVOY DENALI HAS HAD REPEATED PROBLEMS WITH THE FUEL GAUGE. AFTER RE-FUELING THE VEHICLE, THE GAUGE WILL GO TO EMPTY AND ILLUMINATE THE EMPTY TANK WARNING LIGHT. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ALSO COMES ON. WITHIN A FEW MILES THE FUEL GAUGE WILL BEGIN TO FLUCTUATE WILDLY FOR A PERIOD OF TIME, MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO KNOW HOW MUCH GAS IS IN IT. THE FUEL GAUGE SOMETIMES BEGINS TO OPERATE AGAIN AFTER THE CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR A FEW DAYS. CAR HAS BECOME UNSAFE BECAUSE IT IS DIFFICULT TO DETERMINE HOW MUCH FUEL IS IN IT AND EMPTY TANK SENSOR "CRIES WOLF." ALSO, THE FUEL GAUGE HAS BEGUN TO REGISTER A FULL TANK WHEN REALLY THE GAS TANK IS NEAR EMPTY. ONCE YOU START DRIVING THE FUEL GAUGE BEGINS TO FALL SLOWLY UNTIL ABOUT 10 MINUTES LATER IT FINALLY REGISTERS THE PROPER GAS LEVEL... I'VE THOUGHT MY HUSBAND FILLED UP THE TANK AND ALMOST RUN OUT OF GAS BECAUSE THE FUEL GAUGE DIDN'T TELL ME I WAS OUT OF GAS UNTIL I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY STUCK IN TRAFFIC - AWAY FROM A NEARBY GAS STATION. THE TRIP ODOMETER IS NOT AN EXACT SCIENCE SO IT CANNOT BE RELIED UPON. (MPG VARY DEPENDING OUT TEMPERATURE, CITY VS. HIGHWAY MILES, MPH, ETC). MESSAGE BOARDS SHOW THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND EVENTUALLY LEAD TO THE CAR STALLING UNEXPECTEDLY, EVEN DURING HIGHWAY TRAVEL. VEHICLE COMPLETELY LOST POWER ON CONGESTED FREEWAY RESULTING IN REAR END CRASH. *TR
I AM THE OWNER OF A 2005 GMC ENVOY. ON AUGUST 20, 2010, I TOOK MY CAR TO FILL UP PRIOR TO TAKING A TRIP FROM MARYLAND TO VIRGINIA. ONCE I FILLED UP, GOT IN THE CAR AND TURNED ON THE IGNITION, THE GAS GAUGE DID NOT MOVE FROM EMPTY TO FULL. AS I CONTINUED TO DRIVE (SOMEWHERE AROUND 60 MILES) THE GAS GAUGE MOVED TO 1/2,THEN A 1/4 TANK. IT HAS BEEN ALL DOWNHILL SINCE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER ON 10/25/10 (MILEAGE WAS AT 77263) AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WOULD COST OVER $1000 TO REPAIR THE SENSOR WHICH THEY ARE STATING AS THE ISSUE. BEING OUT OF WARRANTY AT THIS POINT, I HAVE NOT HAD IT REPAIRED AS I CANNOT AFFORD THIS TYPE OF EXPENSE. I BASICALLY DRIVE ESTIMATING MY MILEAGE AFTER EVERY FILL UP WHICH IS VERY DANGEROUS. IN DECEMBER 2010, I GOT STRANDED BECAUSE MY CAR STALLED ON THE ENTRANCE HIGHWAY TO I-95 WITHOUT GAS, THANK GOD THAT I HAVE AAA. NOW I HEAR THAT THERE IS AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE GMC ENVOY FOR THIS SAME EXACT PROBLEM. RAN OUT OF GAS MULTIPLE TIMES, DUE TO THE GAS GAUGE NOT WORKING. RESEARCHED ISSUE ON THE INTERNET AND NOTICED MULTIPLE DRIVERS WITH SAME ISSUE. GAS GAUGE DOES NOT READ CORRECT AMOUNT OR CONTINUOUSLY "EMPTY". HAVE HEARD INSTANCES OF OTHER DRIVERS WITH RUSTED/ERODED FUEL GAUGE SENSOR IN THE GAS TANK, CAUSING INACCURATE GAS GAUGE. HAVE BEEN STUCK IN DANGEROUS PLACES AFTER RUNNING OUT OF GAS. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 GMC ENVOY. THE GAS GAUGE HAD STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS AT 60,000 MILES. IT COMPLETELY STOPPED WORKING AT 77,000 TO 80,000 MILES. I BOUGHT THE CAR USED IN 2008 WITH ONLY 45,000 MILES. MY JOB HAS ME ON THE HIGHWAY A LOT. I TRIED TO ESTIMATE THE MILES. BUT THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS I HAVE RAN OUT OF GAS ON HIGHWAY 820 AT 260 MILES AFTER FILLING UP. I RAN OUT ON HIGHWAY 30 AT 320 MILES. IN THE COUNTRY ON PRIVATE GOVERNMENT PROPERTY WITH NO ONE TO BE FOUND AT 150 MILES, EVERY TIME I COMPLETELY FILLED THE CAR UP WITH GAS BEFORE RESETTING THE FUEL GAUGE. I CAN NOT AFFORD TO GET IT FIXED. I CAN NOT TRADE THE CAR IN. I AM A SINGLE MOTHER TWITH THREE CHILDREN THAT HAS BEEN BLESSED SO FAR TO RUN OUT WITH OUT THEM IN THE CAR. I DID REALIZE SO MANY OTHERS WERE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
2005 GMC ENVOY THE FUEL GAGE READS "LOW FUEL" EVEN WHEN THE TANK IS FULL. I AM A MOTHER OF FOUR. I AM CONSTANTLY ON THE ROAD WITH MY CHILDREN. I AM VERY AFRAID OF RUNNING OUT OF GAS WHILE DRIVING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION OR BEING STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH MY CHILDREN. I CANNOT AFFORD TO PAY FOR SOMEONE TO 'FIGURE OUT' WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. I FEEL GMC SHOULD FIGURE IT OUT AND FIX IT. I KNOW I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON WITH THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE DONE LOTS OF RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND I HAVE TALKED TO MANY OTHER ENVOY OWNERS IN MY TOWN WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR
2005 GMC ENVOY INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PANEL FAILURE... THE SPEEDOMETER AND GAS GAUGE QUIT WORKING. *TR
2005 GMC ENVOY FUEL GAUGE INACCURACIES. HED TO REPLACE THE FUEL SENSOR. AT DEALERSHIP. HAD LESS THAN 50,000 MILES ON VEHICLE WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURRED. CONTACTED GMC CUSTOMER SUPPORT TO SEE IF THEY WOULD HELP WITH THECOSTS OF REPAIRING THE VEHICLE. AFTER 3 MONTHS OF WORKING WITH THEM THEY DENIED MY REQUEST. HAD TO PAY FOR THE DIAGNOSTICS AND THEINSTALL OF THE PART WHICH CAME TO APPROX. $450.00. *TR
BROKEN MANIFOLD BOLTS WHICH IT APPEARS FROM SEARCHING THE INTERNET IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON GMC V-8 ENGINES. *TR
THE FUEL GAUGE BECAME ERRATIC. THE FIRST THING THAT HAPPENED WAS WHEN THE FUEL TANK WAS FILLED, THE GAS GAUGE WENT TO EMPTY AND THE FUEL LIGHT CAME ON AS IF THERE WERE NO FUEL. NOW NOT SURE IF IT IS ACCURATE, EVEN THOUGH THE GAS LIGHT HAS GONE OFF AND IT IS NO LONGER DISPLAYING AS EMPTY. *TR
OUT OF NOWHERE MY FRONT HEAD LIGHTS WENT OUT. ITS NOT THE FUSE OR THE BULBS, BOTH FRONT LOW LIGHTS WENT OUT. THE HIGH BEAMS WORK. THERE IS NO POWER GOING TO THE LIGHTS AND I HAVE TO BUY A NEW SWITCH. I ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE ENGINE ALMOST A YEAR AGO BECAUSE THE O RINGS WENT UP. THE GAS GAUGE IS BROKEN AND MY PASSENGER WINDOW WILL NOT GO DOWN. I FEEL SO STUCK WITH THIS CAR! *TR

I'M HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE FUEL GAUGE ON MY 2005 GMC ENVOY. I CAN REGISTER 1/4 A TANK BUT THE MINUTE I FILL, THE GAUGE DROPS BELOW EMPTY AND THE FUEL LIGHT COMES ON. I HAVE TO DRIVE AT LEAST 25 MILES TO HAVE IT REGISTER EVEN A 1/4 OF A TANK AND A FULL 70-85 MILES FOR THE GAUGE TO GET TO SHOW A MORE ACCURATE LEVEL. THE MECHANIC I WENT TO ADMITTED IT WAS THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR CAUSING THE ISSUE BUT ADVISED ME THAT I HAD TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE FUEL PUMP. HE QUOTED $505 FOR THE FUEL PUMP AND AN ADDITIONAL $360 FOR THE LABOR ITS NOT FIXED I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY, WHAT HAPPENS IF I RUN OUT OF FUEL ON THE HIGHWAY OR ON A TIGHT TURN ON A HILL AND THE CAR SHUTS DOWN AND THE STEERING LOCKS? I'VE READ 1000'S OF COMPLAINTS AND HORROR STORIES ABOUT THIS AND NO RECALL. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS! *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC ENVOY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE HAS BEEN MISREADING THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF FUEL THAT WAS IN THE VEHICLE FOR APPROXIMATELY FOUR TO FIVE MONTHS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000. UPDATED 02/02/11 *CN
FUEL GAGE STARTED TO READ INCORRECTLY AFTER FILLING TANK - INITIALLY WOULD DROP TO EMPTY AND THEN READ CORRECTLY AFTER DRIVING ABOUT 100 MILES - NOW READS INCORRECTLY ALL THE TIME. AFTER FILLING IT WILL SHOW EMPTY AND WILL NEVER READ MORE A QUARTER TANK FULL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC ENVOY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT WOULD NOT RELEASE FROM THE BUCKLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER TO BE EXAMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 41,000.
MY 2005 GMC ENVOY IS EXPERIENCING A PROBLEM WHERE THE SPEEDOMETER WILL NOT SLOW DOWN. IT DOES HOWEVER ACCELERATE. SO NOW WHEN I AM PARKED MY VEHICLE SHOWS THAT I AM DOING WELL OVER 120 MPH. I HAVE TO USE MY GPS UNIT TO CHECK MY SPEED, THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN AND SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND THIS PROBLEM IS AFFLICTING MANY PEOPLE. 2006 GMC XUV HAS A TAILGATE PROBLEM WITH NOT OPENING WITH ELECTRIC OPENER. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THERE IS NO EMERGENCY WAY TO OPEN THE TAILGATE SINCE THE LATCHES ONLY OPERATE WITH ELECTRICITY (SWITCHES). WEATHER IS THE MAIN FAULT POOR ENGINEERING LETS PARTS GET WET INSIDE THE DOOR FRAME AND DESTROYS THE LATCHES AND ELECTRONICS STORED INSIDE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC ENVOY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL STOPPED WORKING WHICH MADE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO DETERMINE THE SPEED AND HOW MUCH FUEL WAS IN THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE ALSO CAUSED THE HEADLIGHTS TO FLICKER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED BY THE DEALER OR A LOCAL MECHANIC TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 105,189.
INSTRUMENT CLUSTER INOPERATIVE. SPEEDOMETER PEGGED AND ALL OTHER INSTRUMENTS EXCEPT THE TACHOMETER MALFUNCTION. *TR
2005-ENVOY ORIG OWNER> SPEEDOMETER STARTED GOING CRAZY PEGGED AT 120 WHEN I WAS DOING ONLY 65(GPS SAYS SPEED) THEN IT WENT DOWN TO 20 STILL DOING 65- THIS MORNING ALL FINE. TODAY AFTER WORK SAME CRAZINESS. LIKE OTHERS WONDERING WHY WAS THIS MODEL LEFT OUT OF SAFETY RECALL? WON'T BE BUYING A GMC AGAIN THAT'S FOR SURE. BOUGHT CAR 5 YEARS AGO NEXT MONTH AND LESS THE 70,000. CAN SEE THERE IS A KNOWN ISSUE - BASED ON ALL THE HITS YOU GET ON THE INTERNET WHEN YOU GOOGLE IT. *TR
FUEL GAUGE JUST STOPPED WORKING. IS ALWAYS ON E. EVEN WHEN I FILL IT UP.. GAS LIGHT CONSTANTLY ON AND DINGING. I KNOW THIS IS A PROBLEM IN ENVOYS AND I FEEL GMC SHOULD BE LIABLE FOR CORRECTING THE PROBLEM. MILEAGE RANGE IS HUGE SO IT IS HARD TO TRAVEL AND KNOW WHEN TO GET GAS. ESPECIALLY ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN GAS STATIONS ARE NOT ALWAYS IN RANGE.
THE FUEL LEVEL READS EMPTY WHEN I HAVE JUST FILLED THE TANK. THEN WHEN I DRIVE FOR LITTLE WHILE THE LEVEL READS HALF FULL THEN GOES BACK TO EMPTY. THERE IS NO WAY TO TELL HOW MUCH GAS IS IN THE TANK. THE FUEL LEVEL GAUGE IS SOMETIMES MOVING BACK FAST TO EMPTY WHILE DRIVING. *TR
WHEN I FILL UP THE GAS GAUGE STAYS ON EMPTY FOR A LONG TIME, THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME I FILL UP. *TR
2005 GMC ENVOY GAS GAUGE SHOWS EMPTY WITH LOW FUEL LIGHT ON EVEN WHEN THE TANK IS FULL. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON ALL THE TIME. *TR
2005 GMC ENVOY SPEEDOMETER MALFUNCTION. SPEEDOMETER IS READING 120 MPH AT ALL TIMES. *TR
FUEL SENSOR, LOCATED IN GAS TANK, HAS FAILED. NO MATTER HOW MUCH GAS IS IN THE TANK, BE IT FULL, HALF FULL, OR LESS, THE SENSOR BELL RINGS AND THE GAUGE REGISTERS EMPTY. THIS ALSO CAUSES THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO COME ON. GMC SHOULD RECALL, AS THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. I THOUGHT I HAD MORE FUEL BUT RAN OUT OF GAS ON A MAJOR ROAD, THANKFULLY NO ACCIDENT. GMC HAS ADMITTED THERE IS A PROBLEM AND HAS AGREED TO PAY 50% OF REPAIRS, BUT THIS IS ONLY DONE UNDER A VEHICLE WARRANTY EXTENSION, NOT RECALL. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 GMC ENVOY. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL ISSUES WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH, THE FUEL GAUGE SENSOR, AND THE REAR HATCH. I HAVE REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH FOUR TIMES, PURCHASED A NEW BATTERY, AND A NEW STARTER, AS WELL AS A FUEL SENSOR. I STILL HAVE INTERMITTENT ISSUES WITH MY CAR NOT STARTING FOR NO APPARENT REASON AND STALLING OUT WHILE DRIVING AND ESPECIALLY WHEN DECELERATING. THE STALLING IS A SEVERE SAFETY HAZARD AS I TRAVEL VERY BUSY HIGHWAYS DURING MY DAILY COMMUTE. MY WIFE AND CHILDREN, AS WELL AS MYSELF, HAVE BEEN STRANDED MANY TIMES WHEN THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AFTER OPERATING FINE PRIOR TO TURNING OFF IGNITION. WE HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE IN THE SHOP MANY TIMES AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THERE IS NOTHING THAT CAN BE DONE FOR US BECAUSE THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE CAUSE IS. WHILE DRIVING, I COULD NOT TELL WHAT THE CAR'S SPEED WAS. THE NEEDLE WOULD GO UP AND THEN FALL BACK DOWN, AND THEN WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING FOR A FEW MINUTES. THIS WOULD GO ON EVERY TIME I DROVE. I LOOKED TO SEE IF THERE WAS A RECALL, BUT THERE WASN'T. THERE HAD BEEN SOME COMPLAINTS AND I EVEN CALLED GM AND PLACED A COMPLAINT. I COULDN'T CONTINUE TO DRIVE THIS WAY, IT WAS TO DANGEROUS, SO I WENT TO MY MECHANIC AND HAD IT REPAIRED. IT COST ME $540.79 TO HAVE IT REPAIRED! I WAITED AND WAITED FOR A RECALL BECAUSE I KNEW THERE HAD BEEN OTHERS IN THE SAME SITUATION AS ME. IT IS RIDICULOUS THAT GM WON'T TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR FAULTY PARTS THAT THEY PLACE ON THEIR VEHICLES. I ALSO HAD A PROBLEM WITH MY FUEL TANK SENSOR AND I HAD IT REPAIRED THREE YEARS BEFORE GM WOULD EVER ACKNOWLEDGE THERE WAS A PROBLEM. I WAS REIMBURSED BY GM, BUT ONLY IF THE REPAIRS WERE DONE BY A GM DEALER. I GUESS I'LL BE STUCK WITH THE CLUSTER REPAIR SINCE IT WASN'T REPAIRED BY A DEALER.
