PARKED VEHICLE IN THE GARAGE AND WENT IN THE HOUSE. NEXT MORNING WENT TO USE VEHICLE AND FOUND THAT THE REAR HATCH GLASS HAD EXPLODED. GLASS EVERYWHERE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN MOVED FOR OVER 12 HOURS. HAVE CALLED TO HAVE GLASS REPLACED BUT HAVE SINCE DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THESE TYPES OF VEHICLES. NOW AM CONCERNED THAT IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. MAJOR CONCERN IS IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN WHILE DRIVING AND HAVE MY GRAND CHILDREN IN THE BACK SEAT AND GET INJURED FROM FLYING GLASS.
FRONT WINDSHIELD LEAKS AND RUBBER/SEALANT IS WEAK IN SPOTS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC ENVOY XL. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE DOOR UNLOCKED INDEPENDENTLY AND BECAME AJAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DOOR KNOB ACTUATED UP AND DOWN CONTINUALLY, WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND AT SOME POINT EACH DOOR SWUNG OPEN WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED HOWEVER, THE DOOR CHIME REMAINED AUDIBLE CONTINUALLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHETHER THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN OR WHILE REVERSING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE AFFECTED BOTH DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S SIDE FRONT AND REAR DOORS. ALSO INCLUDED IN THE FAILURE WAS THE REAR DOOR AND HATCH. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS SIMILAR TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V599000 (VISIBILITY) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE YEARS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL WERE 2006-2007. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO FERMAN BUICK GMC - WESLEY CHAPEL (24252 FL-54, TAMPA, FL 33559, (813) 242-2800) WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT DUE TO THE MANUFACTURED YEAR, THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT OBLIGATED TO OFFER A FREE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR MASTER SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO WATER INTRUSION INTO THE CIRCUIT WHICH CAUSED THE POLES TO BE RUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THE MODEL YEAR GMC ENVOY XL SUBJECTED TO THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V599000 (VISIBILITY) WAS 2006-2007. THE CONTACT WAS OFFERED NO ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. *DT*JB
I HAD THREE CARS IN FRONT OF ME STOPPED. I DID NOT SEE ANY BREAKL LIGHTS AND I HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME PUSHING THE OTHER CARS TO HIT EACH OTHER. MY FRONT END OF MY CAR WAS SEVERELY DAMAGED BAD ENOUGH TO DAMAGE THE RADIATOR AND DESTROY MY AC UNIT. I'M NOT SURE WHAT ELSE WAS DAMAGED. IT SENT THE PERSON IN FRONT OF ME AND MYSELF TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM. " MY AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY ". MY VEHICLE WAS MOVING ON A CITY STREET.
WHILE DRIVING MY ENVOY REAR DOOR OPENED UP ON THE HIGHWAY WHILE DRIVING. I PULLED OVER AND TRIED TO CLOSE IT. IT WOULDN'T CLOSE, I HAD TO USE A BUNGY CORD TO KEEP IT CLOSED.
LEFT REAR DOOR FLEW OPEN GOING AROUND CORNER. COULD NOT GET THE DOOR TO LATCH. REMOVED LATCH ASSEMBLY AND ATTEMPTED TO CLEAN. TOO MUCH RUST AND CORROSION. SOME OF THE DEBRIS LOOKS LIKE IT CAME FROM THE STRIKER. HAD SAME TROUBLE WITH RIGHT REAR DOOR AT 80,000 MILES. DISASSEMBLED AND CLEANED. WORKS FOR A WHILE. SOME ONE GOING TO FALL OUT OF ONE OF THESE SUV'S. GM NEEDS TO STEP UP AND FIX THIS PROBLEM. *TR
IN JUNE OF 2007 I COULD NOT CLOSE EITHER OF THE REAR DOORS ON MY VEHICLE. THEY FAILED APPROXIMATELY TWO HOURS APART. I WAS TRANSPORTING TWO GRAND CHILDREN AT THE TIME. THANK HEAVEN THEY WERE YOUNG ENOUGH TO REQUIRE CAR SEATS. WE WERE AT THE MERCY OF STRANGERS ON THE HIGHWAY. WITH DONATED ROPE TO SECURE THE DOORS WE MADE IT HOME. THE DEALER REPLACED BOTH DOOR LOCK ASSEMBLIES. I PAID $125 FOR LABOR ONLY. THE DEALER MUST HAVE REPLACED THE DOOR LOCK ASSEMBLIES WITH THE SAME FAULTY PART. ON 10/12/10 THE LEFT REAR DOOR FAILED AGAIN! AFTER TYING THE DOOR AND USING DUCT TAPE TO SECURE IT I DROVE THE 30 MILES TO THE NEAREST DEALER. ALTHOUGH I HAD TO PAY $295.35 TO REPLACE THE LEFT REAR DOOR LOCK ASSEMBLY THE DEALER WAS ABLE TO DO IT IMMEDIATELY. I AM NOW CARRYING ROPE AND DUCT TAPE IN ANTICIPATION OF FAILURE OF THE RIGHT REAR DOOR LOCK. MY VEHICLE IS WELL TAKEN CARE OF. MAINTENANCE IS FOLLOWED RELIGIOUSLY. (THERE IS NOTHING IN THE MANUAL TO INDICATE DOOR LOCKS SHOULD BE CHECKED. LUBRICATED BUT NOT CHECKED FOR POSSIBLE FAILURE.) THESE FAILURES ARE IN NO WAY MY RESPONSIBILITY. THIS IS A FAULTY DESIGN THAT CAN VERY WELL END IN INJURY. I WOULD HAVE ASSUMED THAT GM WOULD HAVE BEEN CONCERNED AND IF NOT ISSUE A RECALL TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE DEFECTIVE LOCKS. HAVE DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENTS CHECK THESE LOCKS WHEN VEHICLES ARE BROUGHT IN FOR NORMAL MAINTENANCE. NOT ONLY DO THEY NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY THEY ACTUALLY REPLACE THE LOCKS WITH THE SAME LOCK ASSEMBLY THAT IS DOOMED FOR FAILURE. *TR
MAY 18, 2010 6PM DRIVING HOME FROM CHENA HOT SPRINGS ROAD AT THE SPEED LIMIT 55 MILES PER HOUR THE REAR HATCH PLASTIC WAS RATTLING AS USUAL AT THAT SPEED. AT ABOUT 1 BLOCK FROM COLLEGE ROAD TURNOFF WHILE STILL DRIVING ON JOHANSON HWY THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE PLASTIC COVER BROKE AND WAS HANGING DOWN OVER BACK WINDOW. I REDUCED MY SPEED AND STOPPED AND TRIED TO PLACE RIGHT SIDE BACK UP AND SEEN IT WAS STILL ATTACHED ON LEFT SIDE. I DROVE THE REST OF THE WAY HOME VERY SLOW. WHEN MY HUSBAND GOT HOME I HAD HIM REMOVE FROM LEFT SIDE. THIS PIECE IS 3 FOOT 10 INCHES BY 10INCHES. IT ALSO HOLDS MY (CHMSL) LAMP. THIS IS THE THIRD TIME IT HAS FALLING OFF. 2006 LOCAL GMC REPLACED BECAUSE THEY SOLD IT TO ME. 2008 IT FLEW OFF WHILE DRIVING 55 MILES A HOUR AND LUCKLY NO ONE WAS BEHIND AND NO ONE WAS HURT. I BELIEVE THIS IS A FACTORY DEFECT AND GMC NEEDS TO FIX THIS PERMANENTLY BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. THEY STATE CONDITION CAUSE IS A POOR BONDING OF THE DOUBLE-SIDED ADHESIVE TAPE BETWEEN THE CHMSL APPLIQUE AND THE LIFTEGATE GLASS. QUOTE FROM GMC 2008 #01-08-66-007C: CENTER HIGH-MOUNT STOP LAMP(CHMSL)A[[LIQUE LOOSE (RE-TAPE APPLIDQUE)- AUG 27, 2007. I SPOKE WITH JEREMIAH FROM GMC HE STATES THEY (GMC) WILL NOT DO ANYTHING AND SEE NO PROBLEM AND THAT I SHOULD NOT USE HATCH IN THE WINTER TIME. AND BY THE WAY I HAVE NOT USED MY HATCH IN THE WINTER MONTHS SINCE AFTER THE 2008 REPAIR THAT THE GMC LOCAL DEALER FIXED AS A COURTESY I CHOOSE NOT TO TAKE ANY CHANCES. I ALSO AVOID DRIVING OVER 50 MILES AN HOUR. MILIAGE ON MY ENVOY TODAY IS ONLY 31,192 I AVOID LONG TRIPS TOO. I AM NOT ASKING FOR A NEW CAR I JUST WANT TO BE SAFE DRIVING 55 MILES AN HOUR. I THINK IT IS A DEFECT DESIGN THE PLASTIC SITS UP AND THE FORCE OF THE WIND HITTING AT OVER 50 MILES AN HOUR IT RIPS IT OFF!! THANK YOU FOR ANY HELP IN THIS MATTER. *TR
OPENING THE HATCH ON MY 2005 ENVOY XLS APPROX 1 TIME PER DAY CAUSED THE PISTONS AND THE BALLASTS TO GO BAD. THE VEHICLE HAS HAD CONTINUAL PROBLEMS WITH THE BACK DOOR HANDLES AND INTERIOR MECHANISMS FOR THE PAST 3 YEARS, WITH REPEATED TRIPS TO THE DEALER TO FIX THE PROBLEM. STILL NOT FIXED. *TR
