WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THE DRIVER APPLIED THE BRAKES TO STOP BUT THEY FAILED TO WORK PROPERLY. THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO EXPERIENCE EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP BUT THE CAUSE HAS YET TO BE DETERMINED. *NLM THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO CORROSION ON THE ELECTRONIC SENSOR. THIS GAVE A SIGNAL TO THE BRAKE CONTROL CIRCUIT, THAT THE WHEELS WERE STOPPED AT ZERO ROTATION AND THE CONTROL CIRCUIT THEN RELEASED THE BRAKE(S) ON THE VEHICLE . *SC *JB
DT: THE CALLER SAID ABS KICKED IN AT LOW SPEEDS. SHE HAD TWO CLOSE CALLS. THE CALLER HAD THE PROBLEM FIXED ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO, BUT PROBLEM RECURRED. THERE WAS NHTSA RECALL 05V379000 ON ABS BRAKES IN OTHER STATES, BUT NOT IN CALLER'S STATE. DEALER AND MANUFACTURER SAID HER STATE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. *AK
REAR OF VEHICLE CLUNKS WHEN STOPPING AND UPON MOVING FORWARD FROM A STOP. THIRD DOOR USED TO ACCESS REAR OF VEHICLE DOES NOT LATCH DURING COLD WEATHER OF 20 DEGRESS OR LOWER. *AK
WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE CABLE WHICH WAS ATTACHED TO THE END OF THE BRAKE PEDAL BROKE. *AK THE END OF THE CABLE BROKE OFF WHICH CAUSED THE PARKING BRAKE TO BE INOPERATIVE. *PH *JB

CONSUMER RECEIVED RECALL 04V129000 CONCERNING TAILGATE SUPPORT CABLE BREAKING. THE TAILGATE CABLE BROKE WHEN THE CONSUMER LET THE TAILGATE DOWN. THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO VIN. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AND APPLYING BRAKES VEHICLE PRODUCES A LOUD NOISE, THEN, PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR. EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE IS NECESSARY FOR BRAKES TO PERFORM. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK
2000 GMC K2500 LEAKING WATER INTO ENGINE. IS THE EXTENDED LIFE ANTI-FREEZE TO BLAME? HAVE HEARD REPORTS OF THIS. DOES GM HAVE RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM?. *AK
WE PURCHASED A USED 2000 GMC AND WITHIN A MONTH EXPERIENCED EXPERIENCED THROTTLE STICKING CLOSED SO SEVERE YOU COULD NOT MOVE THE VEHICLE. THEN IF YOU APPLIED A LOT OF PRESSURE IT WOULD LURCH FORWARD. WE TOOK IT IN AFTER A COUPLE OF MONTHS TO A LOCAL GMC DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY AND IT WAS WARPED AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THEY HAD NO EXPLANATION WHY IT WOULD HAVE BECOME WARPED. WE PAID 643.00. WHEN WE PICKED UP THE VEHICLE MY WIFE WENT ONLINE TO RESEARCH IF THERE WERE ANY PROBLEMS AND CAME ACROSS A REFERENCE TO A TSB SO WE CHECKED OUT NHTSA AND UNDER DEFECTS WAS LISTED THE INVESTIGATION THAT IS STILL OPEN ABOUT THE THROTTLE BODY( EA02-015) . WE WERE VERY UPSET AND TOOK IN COPIES OF THE TSB AND SPOKE TO THE SERVICE MANAGER. ON OUR RECEIPT WAS LISTED ANOTHER TSB #00-06-04-007B AS TO WHY THEY REPLACED IT. BUT WITH A CHARGE. WE FELT THEY SHOULD HAD DISCLOSED THIS PROBLEM AND THAT ODI WAS INVESTIGATING IT . THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID HE WOULD CALL GMC AND WE RECEIVED A CALL THE NEXT DAY THAT GMC WOULD BE SENDING US A CHECK FOR 400 TO COVER THE PART. THAT SEEMS FAIR BUT WE DEFINATELY FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. HAD WE NOT BEEN OLDER DRIVERS AND VERY CAUTIOUS WE COULD HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. IT COULD HAVE STUCK OPEN AS WELL AS CLOSED. *AK
CABLE SUPPORTING TAILGATE OF 2000 GMC K2500 FAILED UNEXPECTEDLY.*AK
CONSUMER PLACED A LIGHT WEIGHT BOX OF CLOTHES ON THE TAILGATE AND BOTH CABLES SNAPPED, DROPPING THE FULL WEIGHT OF THE TAILGATE ON HIS LEFT KNEE. *PH THE CONSUMER STATED THE TWO CABLES HAD PLASTIC SHEATHS OVER THEM TO PROTECT THE METAL CABLES FROM THE WEATHER, HOWEVER WHEN THE TAIL GATES WERE CLOSED, THE PLASTIC SHEATHS CRACKED, WHICH ALLOWED WATER INSIDE AND CAUSED THE CABLES TO RUST THROUGH. *JB
I HAVE HAD ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WITH THIS TRUCK SINCE PURCHASED. IT HAS BEEN IN THE SERVICE CENTER 3 DIFFERENT TIMES WITH NO RESOLUTION. NOW THE ENGINE WILL NOT TURN OVER AND WHEN ATTEMPTING TO USE BOOSTER CABLES TO START THE CABLES BEGAN TO SMOKE AND THE COPPER WIRES MELTED. IN AN ATTEMPT TO REMOVE THE CABLES BEFORE THE OTHER CAR IGNITED I WAS BURNED. ADDITIONALLY THE TRUCK KEYS WERE NOT IN THE ON POSITION. THAT IS I HAD NOT ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE YET. *NLM
CONTINUED HARD STARING, NO STARTING, STALLING, AND SPUTTERING WHILE DRIVING. *NLM
2000 GMC SIERRA EXPERIENCED BRAKE FAILURE. *MR THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AS THE CONSUMER ENTERED A PARKING SPACE. THE CONSUMER FIRMLY HELD HIS FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND TAPPED THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HIM. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT REPLACED THE PADS AND ROTORS. THE BRAKE WERE INTERMITTENT. RUST WERE REMOVED FROM THE SENSORS. THE LEFT FRONT SENSOR DROPPED OUT AND WAS REPLACED. *SC
THE TAILGATE CABLE BROKE WHILE LOADING AN ATV BIKE. AS RESULT, THE BIKE FLIPPED BACKWARDS AND INJURED CONSUMER'S HANDS. THIS FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY RUST DEVELOPING IN THE CABLE. *AK THE CONSUMER HAS MET OTHER CONSUMER'S WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM. *SC
MY 2000 GMC SIERRA TRUCK TAILGATE WILL NOT LATCH. IT FALLS DOWN WHILE TRUCK IS MOVING. *JB
2000 GMC 1500-HAS BROKEN FRAME ABOVE REAR AXLE. TRUCK HAS BEEN USED TO TOW TRAILER WITH TONGUE WEIGHT NEVER OVER 700#,USING HITCH WITH 1000# RATING.ALSO INSTALLED IS AIR BAGS BETWEEN REAR AXLE AND FRAME, TO ALLOW LEVELING WHEN TRAILER ATTACHED ON HITCH. NO EXPLANATION RECIEVED FROM DEALER OTHER THAN HAVE NEVER SEEN IT HAPPEN.DID SAY HAVE SEEN IT ON DODGE TRUCKS. THE DEALER REP DID NOT SUGGEST HOW TO REPAIR OR AT WHAT COST, THEY DIDN'T SEEM INTERESTED IN CORRECTING THE PROBLEM SINCE THE WARRANTY WAS OVER BY 2500 MILES. SO I TOOK IT TO A GENERAL WELDER WHO QUOTED ME $200 TO $400 DOLLARS TO WELD THE FRAME AND ADD A PIECE OF STEEL TO THE FRAME TO RE-INFORCE THIS OBVIOUS PLACE OF STRESS. THE WELDER ALSO SAYS HE HAS SEEN THIS HAPPEN BEFORE AND DONE THESE KIND OF REPAIRS BECAUSE NONE OF THE MANUFACTURED FRAMES ARE RE-INFORCED AT THE POINT OF STRESS THAT WOULD BE PUT ON A FRAME WHEN WEIGHT IS ADDED AS FAR BACK AS A HITCH. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF HAVING THESE REPAIRS DONE A THOUGHT OTHER TRAILER HAULING PICK-UP OWNERS SHOULD BE AWARE OF THIS FAULT. THIS TRUCK IS RATED FOR #8800 TOWING,WITH A #1000 RATED TONGUE WEIGHT HITCH. NEVER HAVE I HAD MORE THAN#5000 TRAILER WEIGHT WITH NO MORE THAN &700 TONGUE WEIGHT, BUT THE FRAME STILL CRACKED MAKING THIS AN UN-KNOWN SAFETY HAZARD. I COULD HAVE BEEN TOWING THE TRAILER AND THE FRAME COULD HAVE BROKEN COMPLETLEY, DROPPED THE TRAILER TO GROUNG CAUSING SEPERATION FROM THE TRUCK AND THAN [WHAT]?. YOUR GUESS IS GOOD AS MINE.*AK
ABS BRAKES FAILED TO WORK AT 7-8 MPH. TRUCK HIT VEHICLE IN FRONT OF IT. DEALER SAID ALL IS WELL. *TR
DEAR SIRS, IN JANUARY OF 2000 I PURCHASED A NEW GMC SIERRA PICK-UP TRUCK FROM A GENERAL MOTORS DEALERSHIP. IN APRIL OF 2003 THE GAS GAUGE BEGAN TO ACT ERRATICALLY FOR A FEW SECONDS AFTER A FILL-UP. IT WOULD GO FROM FULL TO EMPTY, AND THEN ACT NORMAL UNTIL THE NEXT FILL-UP. THE ODOMETER READING WAS APPROXIMATELY 48,000 MILES WHEN THIS PROBLEM FIRST OCCURRED. IN SEPTEMBER 2003 THE GAUGE WOULD ONLY REGISTER FULL. AT THIS TIME I HAD THE TRUCK INSPECTED BY TWO INDEPENDENT GARAGES. THEY STATED THAT THEY HAD SEEN A NUMBER OF GMC'S WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. IT SEEMED THAT THE 1999-2001 MODELS HAD A DEFECTIVE PART. WHEN I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE DEALERSHIP IN SEPTEMBER 2003 I WAS TOLD THAT THE FUEL TANK WOULD HAVE TO BE REMOVED IN ORDER TO REPLACE THE PART. I WAS THEN TOLD THAT THE COST OF THIS REPAIR WOULD BE $650.00, INCLUDING PARTS (THE PART COST WAS $395.83). I WAS INFORMED THAT BECAUSE THE MILEAGE ON THE TRUCK WAS APPROXIMATELY 64,000 MILES, THE WARRANTY DID NOT COVER THE COST OF THIS REPAIR. I STATED THAT THE MILEAGE SHOULD NOT BE A FACTOR FOR A FUEL GAUGE. I DID NOT EXPECT GM TO TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY; HOWEVER, I FEEL THAT SOME CONSIDERATION SHOULD BE GIVEN TOWARD THE COST OF THIS PART. I HAVE CONTACTED THE GM CONSUMER DEPARTMENT HOWEVER NO RELIEF HAS BEEN OFFERED TOWARD THIS REPAIR/PART. I DO NOT FEEL THAT I SHOULD BE HELD FULLY RESPONSIBLE FOR A DEFECTIVE PART. *LA
DT: THE BRAKE LIGHT AND ANTI- LOCK BRAKE LIGHT ON THE DASH COMES ON AND THE BRAKES ARE SPONGY. THE CONSUMER HAS NOT EXPERIENCED BRAKE FAILURE YET. THE CONSUMER HAS TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO DEALER AND THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN NOTIFIED.

THE DRIVER SEAT IS NOT ATTACHED. I HAD THIS REPLACED 2 TIMES IN THE LAST YEAR. *JB
THE SHAFT PUMP BROKE, WHICH RESULTED IN VEHICLE LOSING POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. *JB
THE GAS PEDAL STICKS REGULARLY. IT STICKS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS AT A STAND STILL. IT IS VERY HARD TO PRESS THE PEDAL AT TIMES. WHEN I DO PUSH THE PEDAL IT TAKES A LOT OF PRESSURE TO GET IT PUSHED IN AND THE VEHICLE THEN DARTS FORWARD VERY QUICKLY. WHEN IN A TIGHT SPACE THIS CAN BE QUITE DANGEROUS AS I AM UNABLE TO CONTROL IT. 8NLM

TRUCK WON'T START, IDLES ROUGH, BUCKING OR NO POWER, FUEL INJECTORS GUMMED UP, BACKFIRES SOMETIMES WON'T GO OVER 30 MPH*AK
HAD TALKED TO DEALERSHIP TWO TIMES COMPLAINING OF ENGINE KNOCK ON START UP. BOTH SERVICE ADVISORS TOLD ME THAT IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND I DON'T NEED TO WORRY ABOUT IT. I CALLED GMC CUSTOMER SERVICE TO GET THE PROBLEM DOCUMENTED AN TO SEE WHAT THEY THINK OF IT. THEY INFORMED ME TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND GIVE MY SERVICE REQUEST NUMBER (1-64044981) AND HAVE THEM DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP HAD ME PICK THE VEHICLE UP AND THEY TOLD ME THE SHOP FOREMAN LISTENED TO MY NOISE ALONG WITH TWO OTHER VEHICLES OF THE SAME MAKE, MODEL, AND YEAR AND ALL MADE THE SAME NOISE. I CALLED GMC BACK TO LET THEM KNOW THE PROBLEM WAS NOT DIAGNOSED AND GOT THE VOICEMAIL BOX OF THE REPRESENITIVE SO I LEFT A MESSAGE TO PLEASE CALL ME BACK. I HAVE NOT RECIEVED A CALL BACK SO I CALLED AND TALKED TO TWO OTHER REPRESENITIVES AND THEY WILL NOT HELP ME THEY JUST LEFT MESSAGES FOR THE ORIGINAL REPRESENATIVE THAT I TALKED TO. I GUESS THAT GMC DOES NOT WANT TO TALK TO ME ABOUT MY COMPLAINT.
THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL STICKS INTERMITTENTLY CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SURGE FORWARD WITHOUT WARNING. DEALER HAS REPAIRED 4X WHILE UNDER WARRANTY, BUT PROBLEM WOULD REOCCUR APPROXIMATELY 2 WEEKS AFTER SERVICING. PH

NO EVENT LEADING UP TO FAILURE. THE FUEL GAUGE QUITS READING FULL INSTEAD READS COMPLETELY EMPTY GIVING NO INDICATION OF FUEL LEVEL NOTHING HAS BEEN CURRENTLY DONE TO FIX THE PROBLEM AS IT INVOLVES REMOVAL OF PICKUP BED TO REPLACE SENSOR IN FUEL PUMP. 5 OTHER VEHICLES IN SAME AREA HAVE SAME PROBLEM. *AK
PROBLEMS WITH ABS BRAKES.BRAKES DO NOT RESPOND IN A NORMAL MANNER FOR NO APPARENT REASON.OCCURS AT ALL SPEEDS AND ON DRY ROADS.SEEM'S LIKE THE ABS.ACTIVATES FOR NO REASON BUT DOES NOT STOP VEHICLE.PROBLEM IS WORSE ON BUMPY ROAD'S.HAVE HAD TO AVOID COLLISION'S ON MANY OCCASIONS!
THE SPARE TIRE HOLDER BROKE OFF AND THE SPARE TIRE WAS RELEASED FROM THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE TRUCK ONTO THE ROADWAY. THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT IF IT HAD OCCURRED ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY AT A FASTER SPEED. AN INSPECTION OF THE FAILED ASSEMBLY SHOWS THAT IT IS HELD UP BY A SINGLE THIN STEEL CABLE, WHICH WAS BROKEN, ALLOWING THE ASSEMBLY TO RELEASE THE SPARE TIRE AND WHEEL. DT
WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WILL STICK WHEN GAS IS APPLIED. CONSUMER HAS TO SLAM ON GAS PEDAL FOR IT TO DISENGAGE. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE DETAILS.TS
A 2000 GMC C3500 SIERRA PICK UP TRUCK ROLLED OVER CAUSING THE ROOF TO COLLAPSE WHICH CAUSED BLUNT FORCE TRAUMA TO THE DRIVER'S HEAD WHICH RESULTED IN HIS DEATH. *JB
CONSUMER CALLED COMPLAINING ABOUT HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE THROTTLE PEDAL GETTING STUCK. DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT HE NEEDED TO HAVE A COMPLETED CLEAN UP ON THE VEHICLE. MR SCC
CONSUMER STATED THAT WHEN TRYING TO APPLY THE BRAKES THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD GO TO THE FLOOR CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO HAVE EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. DEALER NOTIFIED. MR
RUSTING OF REAR BRAKE ROTORS CAUSING PREMATURE WEAR AND REPLACEMENT OF BRAKES AND ROTORS. THE DEALER AND GM REPLACED THE ROTORS UNDER WARRANTY WHILE IT COST ME $269 TO HAVE THE BRAKES REPLACED. MY CONCERN QUALITY OF METAL ON ROTORS NOT CONDUSIVE WITH NORMAL EVERY DAY USE. ARE THEIR SPECIFICATION TO THICKNESS AND QUALITY OF METAL FOR ALL MANUFACTURES? LIFE EXPECTANCY?*AK
INTERMITTENTLY THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD STICKS LOCK UP WHEN APPLIED WHEN THIS OCCUR IT CAUSE A DELAY IN STOPPING. VEHICLE BEEN TO THE DEALER ON TWO OCCASION AND THE PROBLEM IS REOCCURRING. TS

TAIL GATE STRAPS BROKE WHILE I WAS SITTING ON THE TAIL GATE HOLDING MY SHOT GUN TAKING A BREAK FROM PLEASANT HUNTING. I WEIGH 175 POUNDS. FORTUNATELY THE GUN WAS UNLOADED AS I WENT TO THE GROUND. I HAVE MY HUNTING BUDDY AS A WITNESS. NO DAMAGE TO TAILGATE. VEHICLE MILEAGE 50,026 AT TIME. CABLES RUSTED OUT. COSTS FOR LABOR AND MATERIALS $62 AT CLIFT GMC INVOICE #[XXX]. FRONT PASSENGER TIRE EXPERIENCED TREAD SEPARATION AT 75 MPH.*JB THE CONSUMER AND HIS LAWYER SENT TWO PETITIONS REQUESTING THAT NHTSA REOPEN ITS PREVIOUS INVESTIGATION INTO FIRESTONE STEEL TEX LIGHT TRUCK RADIAL TIRES DUE TO AN ALLEGED DEFECT IN THEIR DESIGN AND PERFOMANCE TAKING INTO CONSIDERATION THOSE TIRES INSTALLED ON AMBULANCE AND EMERGENCY RESPONSE VEHICLES. THE CONSUMER REPLACED ALL FIVE TIRES INCLUDING THE SPARE TIRE THAT ONLY HAD 300 MILES ON IT. *TC

CONSUMER NOTICED MASSIVE TIRE UNDULATION ON THREE OF THE FOUR TIRES ON THE GROUND. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A FIRESTONE DEALER, WHO ONLY ADJUSTED THE TIRES WITH THE TIRES THAT WOULD BE THE SAME AS THE FAILED TIRES. CONSUMER HAD PURCHASED A NEW SET OF TIRES BY ANOTHER BRAND. CONSUMER STATES THE DEALER HAD SHOWN THEM A LETTER STATING THE FIRESTONE TIRES ARE BUILT TO GM SPECIFICATIONS. MODEL/STEEL TEX TIRE 245/75R16 E *SCC
WHILE DRIVING AND WITH NO WARNING BRAKES WENT OUT, CAUSING BRAKE PEDAL TO GO TO THE FLOOR, AND VEHICLE EXPERIENCED EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE, RESULTING IN AN ACCIDENT. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK
