I HAVE A GMC SIERRA 1550HD TRUCK. PURCHASED IN 2001. IT CURRENTLY HAS 62,000 MILES. IT CAME WITH FIRESTONE 245X75X16 TIRES. SINCE I HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE BOTH REAR TIRES OF THE SAME DESCRIPTION HAS HAD FAILURES WITHIN MONTHS OF EACH OTHER. THE TIRES DEVELOPED LARGE HUMPS ON THE TREAD AREA WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SHUDDER DRASTICALLY AND BECOME UNSTABLE. THIS IS OF PARTICULAR CONCERN TO ME SINCE IN BOTH CASES I HAD MY FAMILY WITH ME WHICH INCLUDES A BABY AND A 10 YEAR OLD IN THE VEHICLE. WHAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT MY COMPLAINT AND IS THERE CONCERN FOR OTHER CONSUMERS WHO MAY BE RIDING ON THIS PARTICULAR TIRE AS WELL? *JB
WE HAVE A 2001 GMC CREW CAB THAT WE HAVE HAD FOR 26 MONTHS. BE BOUGHT IT BRAND NEW SO WE WOULD BE LESS LIKELY TO HAVE PROBLEMS. WE HAVE HAD 3 NEW TRANSMISSIONS (NOT INCLUDING THE FACTORY ONE). IT IS IN THE REPAIR SHOP AGAIN BECAUSE WHEN YOU PUT THE TRUCK IN REVERSE IT DIES. NOT EVERY TIME BUT IT HAPPENS QUITE OFTEN. IT WAS IN THE SHOP BEFORE FOR THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM WHICH RESULTED IN 1 OF THE 3 NEW TRANSMISSIONS. LETS HOPE IT DOESN'T NEED ANOTHER ONE. THIS IS GETTING OLD!!!!!!!!!!!
04 V 129 000/TAILGATE SUPPORT : THE CONSUMER HAD A CONCERN THAT THE DEALER WILL REPLACE THE SUPPORT CABLES, BUT WILL NOT REPAIR THE TAILGATE LATCH. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. THE TAILGATE WILL NOT CLOSE/LOCK PROPERLY. *JB
FAILURE OF BOTH TAILGATE CABLES, CAUSING THE PERSON STANDING ON THE TAILGATE TO FALL TO THE GROUND.*AK
WHEN YOU START THE MOTOR AT ANY TIME YOU HERE KNOCKING NOISES COMING FROM THE MOTOR.WHEN YOU START TO SLOW DOWN THERE IS A RUBBING OR BUMPING NOISE COMING FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE. IT SEEMS TO BE COMING UP THROUGH THE BRAKE PEDAL. ALSO BRAKE PEDAL IS LOOSE WITH NO ADJUSTMENT.*AK
ANTI-LOCKING BRAKES - PROBLEM WITH ABS BRAKES - AS BRAKES APPLIED ON DRY OR WET SURFACE, THE WORST BRAKES GOT, NO MATTER IF LIGHT OR HARD TOUCH OR SLOW OR FAST SPEED. GMC SIERRRA (2001) WAS BROUGHT IN FOR REPAIR AFTER BRAKES FAILED CAUSING SLOW SPEED COLLISION WITH SPOUSES PU TRUCK IN MY DRIVEWAY RESULTING IN NO DAMAGE OR INJURIES. REPLACED ONE SPEED SENSOR (LEFT FRONT WHEEL) AND CLEANED OTHER AT MY EXPENSE ($148.60 FOR PARTS, LABOR CHARGE WAIVED - MILEAGE 35416). 2ND COMPLAINT OR REQUEST - DRAGGING BRAKES OR LOCKING AND PULLING WHEN APPLIED 3RD COMPLAINT OR REQUEST - REMOVE ALL FOUR WHEELS AND CHECK BRAKES - RESULTS - REPAIR INCLUDE PARTS & LABOR AT MY EXPENSE - (MILEAGE 41073) MACHINE TWO FRONT AND TWO REAR ROTORS AND REPLACE FRONT AND REAR CALIPERS PLUS FREE UP SLIDDERS (PARTS $272, UNKNOWN BREAKDOWN ON LABOR COST ABOVE AND BEYOND).
WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH LEFT REAR TIRE TREAD SEPARATED. THIS RESULTED IN THE FENDER AND BUMPER BENDING. *AK FIRESTONE SAID THAT CONSUMER HIT A POT HOLE THAT CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE TIRE. HOWEVER, CONSUMER DENIED HITTING A POT HOLE WHILE DRIVING. *LA
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND APPLYING THE BRAKES. PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY DOWN, RESULTING IN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. THIS VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. HOWEVER, DEALER STATED THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE.*AK
I OWN A 2001 GMC 2500HD 4WD, AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, EXTENDED CAB, SHORTBED, 6.0 LITRE GAS ENGINE. PURCHASED IN OCTOBER 2000. THE TRUCK IS COMPLETELY STOCK EXCEPT FOR AN TIRE UPGRADE TO 285/75 R16. ON DEC 17, 2003, I TOOK A WIDE LEFT TURN ON TO A STREET. AFTER MAKING THE FIRST LEFT, THE STEERING FELT STRANGE. WHILE MAKING THE SECOND LEFT THE POWER STEERING DISAPPEARED COMPLETELY AND SO DID THE BRAKES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOW HEADING TOO WIDE RIGHT AND I WAS STOMPING ON THE BRAKES TO TRY AND STOP IT. I ALMOST RAN INTO A POST TO THE RIGHT OF THE TURN. LUCKILY THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC AND I WAS ABLE TO BRING THE TRUCK TO A STOP. THE POWER STEERING WAS COMPLETELY GONE AND SO WERE POWER BRAKES. I HAD TO MUSCLE THE 8600 LB. TRUCK BACK AND FINISH THE TURN IN A VERY PHYSICAL MANNER. THIS WAS NO EASY TASK. I DROVE IT A SHORT WAY HOME VERY SLOWLY AND WITH GREAT DIFFICULTY. I DISCOVERED THE POWER STEERING PULLEY SHAFT HAD SHEARED INSIDE THE POWER STEERING PUMP. I REPLACED THE POWER STEERING PUMP.THE DAY AFTER THE SECOND UNIT WAS INSTALLED, THE VERY SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. I SNAPPED THE SAME SHAFT ON THE SECOND PUMP. FEARING I HAD JUST RECEIVED A BAD PART, I AGAIN REPLACED THE POWER STEERING PUMP. I SPOKE TO MANY MECHANICS SPECIALIZING IN FRONT END AND STEERING WORK. THEY HAVE ALL CONFIRMED THAT THIS IS THE SAME PUMP THAT HAS BEEN USED IN OLDER GM TRUCK MODELS. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS NOW THE PUMP PROVIDES ADDITIONAL WORK TO THE POWER BRAKE ASSIST. THIS IS BEYOND THE ABILITY OF THE OLDER DESIGN PUMP, ORIGINALLY ONLY DESIGNED TO PROVIDE POWER STEERING. THE SITUATION THAT MOST COMMONLY OCCURS WHEN THIS PUMP FAILS IS USUALLY WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AND DURING A TURN. TO LOSE CONTROL OF THESE HEAVY TRUCKS IN THIS INSTANCE IS DANGEROUS AND COULD VERY LIKELY CAUSE AND ACCIDENT. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE DESIGN OF THIS CRITICAL COMPONENT AND THE IMMEDIATE LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL THAT HAPPENED TO ME. THERE ARE MANY OF THESE TRUCKS OUT THERE THAT HAVE THIS SAME FLAW. *AK
WHILE BRAKING AT A STOP LIGHT, MY 2001 GMC SIERRA 2500HD, PROCEEDED TO SLIDE INTO THE CAR IN FRONT, LIGHT SNOW WAS ON THE GROUND AND A LITTLE WET, SPEED WAS ABOUT 25 MILES AN HOUR LESS AT IMPACT, IS THIS RELATED TO THE INVESTIGATION FOR GM TRUCKS ? ALSO THIS PAST YEAR AT A STOP SIGN, WHEN I WAS BRAKING THE ABS KICK IN BUT THE PETAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, LOW SPEED BUT I HAD TO PUT IN NEUTRAL AND TAKE EVASIVE ACTION TO PREVENT ENTERING THE INTERSECTION AND MISSED STRICKING A CAR?
WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH THE BRAKES FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE HAS NOT BEEN DETERMINED. *NM
2001 GMC K1500 SIERRA, 52000 MILES COMING TO A STOP NEAR 0 MPH THE ABS BRAKES START PULSATING. THIS CAUSES THE TRUCK TO STOP A FEW FEET FURTHER FROM WHERE YOU EXPECT. THIS INTERMITTENT PROBLEM IS MORE SOLID WHEN THE FRONT WHEELS ARE TURNED (LIKE STOPPING AT AN INTERSECTION AROUND A BEND OR, TURNING INTO A PARKING SPACE). *JB
DT: ABS BRAKES ON 2001 GMC SIERRA. AT A LITTLE BIT OF SNOW AND AT LOW SPEEDS LESS THAT 15 MPH THE ABS KICKED IN. HAD IT LOOKED AT, AND MECHANIC SAID IT WAS FINE. I DID HEAR THAT NHTSA WAS INVESTIGATING THIS PROBLEM. CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN ONE LOW SPEED ACCIDENT. *AK
WHILE ON A SLIGHT INCLINE, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO ROLL FORWARD AND COLLIDED WITH A TREE. THE VEHICLE'S GEAR WAS IN REVERSE AND THE PARKING BRAKE WAS ENGAGED BEFORE THE ACCIDENT. THE MANUFACTURER AND THE DEALER ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. *NLM *MR

GMC 2500HD WILL NOT STOP OR TURN SOMETIMES ,HYATT BUICK SAYS IT IS NORMAL . I HAVE A SIGNED LETTER THAT SAYS IT IS NORMAL.INCEDENT DATE IS FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED. I NEED HELP-------
DT: THE CONTACT COMPLAINED ABOUT AN ABS PROBLEM FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS. THE PROBLEM STARTED OUT AS INTERMITTENTLY, AND HAS BECOME MORE FREQUENT OVER THE PAST TWO YEARS. THE ABS ENGAGED AT AROUND 20 MPH. SHE HAS BEEN IN CONTACT WITH GM AND A DEALER. NEITHER OF THEM OFFERED ANY FREE REMEDY. THERE WAS NHTSA RECALL 05V379000, BUT THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED BECAUSE IT IS A DUALLY. THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN TO A DEALER FOR INSPECTION OF THE ABS PROBLEM.*AK
TAILGATE CABLE SNAPPED UNDER A WEIGHT BEARING LOAD CONDITION. *AK
WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER (A/C) IS USED IT TAKES AT LEAST EIGHT MINUTES FOR THE COOL AIR TO FLOW. THERE IS A FOUL ODOR COMING FROM THE VENTS THAT SMELLS LIKE ROTTEN EGGS. ALSO, CONSUMER IS CONCERNED WITH THE SOUND OF THE ENGINE. ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH A GAS ENGINE, IT SOUNDS LIKE A DIESEL ENGINE. THERE IS A IRRITATING NOISE THAT OCCURS INTERMITTENTLY AT ANY SPEED. THE DEALER CLAIMS THAT THE NOISE IS NORMAL. *AK ENGINE BURNS 3 QTS. OF OIL EVERY 3000 MILES AND THE FUEL GAUGE ISN'T ACCURATE. *PH *NLM
WHEN IT RAINS WATER COLLECTS IN THE ELBOW OF THE RUBBER SLEEVE COVERING THE SUPPORT CABLE HOLDING THE TAILGATE UP. THE WATER IN THE ELBOW CAUSED BOTH CABLES TO CORRODE AND BREAK. *AK *NM
WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, REAR END BODY STARTED MAKING NOISE. THE DEALERSHIP SHOWED THE CONSUMER THE DAMAGE ON TIRES, BUT COULD NOT REPAIR UNDER WARRANTY. MEDIATION SERVICES REPRESENTATIVE WRITING ON BEHALF OF CONSUMER. *LA *SC *JB
FRONT LEFT HUB ON 2001 GMC SIERRA 4WD HAS FAILED AND MUST BE REPLACED AT SIGNIFICANT COST. VEHICLE HAS 73,000 MILES ON IT. TRUCK HAS BEEN KEPT IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND SERVICED PROPERLY. NO OFF ROAD USE OTHER THAN ON GRASS TO ENSURE 4WD SYSTEM WORKING. *LA
DT: THE CONTACT WA SHAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE PUSH BUTTON MODULE THAT ENGAGES THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE. THE VEHICLE IS GETTING STUCK BETWEEN TWO WHEEL AND FOUR WHEEL DRIVE. HE HAS TALKED TO GM, AND VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER A RECALL. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR THREE YEARS. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR ANY REPAIRS. *AK
TAILGATE CABLE BROKE ON MY 2001 GMC 2500HD TRUCK. ONE (1) ONLY, BUT THE OTHER SIDE WAS REALLY RUSTY TOO. DEALER REPLACED THEM, LUCKILY I HAD EXTENDED WARRANTY. THIS IS A DANGEROUS "DEFECT" AND COULD INJURE SOMEONE BADLY. TRUCK TAILGATES ARE USED EXTENSIVELY FOR LOAD BEARING. *LA
BRAKE PROBLEM W/2001 GMC SIERRA. FOUR WHEEL DISC BRAKES. ROTORS WERE COMPLELELY RUSTED AT 60K MILES. SEVERE LOSS OF BRAKE POWER ALTHOUGH PADS WERE NOT IGNIFICANTLY WORN. THIS CAUSED REPLACEMENT OF 4 ROTORS. GM MECHANIC SAID THIS IS COMMON PROBLEM.*AK
DRIVING ON HIGHWAY IN THE EVENING ROAD WAS WET DUE TO EARLIER RAIN, TRAVELING AT 60-65 MPH, WHEN ANOTHER CAR PASSED US AND CHANGED LANES ERRATICALLY WHICH CAUSED THE NEED TO SLOW DOWN. UPON ENGAGING THE BRAKES THE ABS FAILED TO WORK, AND VEHICLE'S REAR END LOST TRACTION AND SLID INTO NEXT LANE OF TRAFFIC, THEN HIT GUARD RAIL AND SPUN TRUCK AROUND AND HIT BRIDGE GUARD RAIL ON OPPOSITE SIDE, CAUSING TRUCK TO STARTLE AND RIDE CONCRETE BRIDGE MEDIAN AND FINALLY COMING TO REST IN GRASS MEDIAN. BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY CAUSING MINOR INJURIES TO BOTH OCCUPANTS. NEEDLESS TO SAY TRUCK IS TOTALED. *LA
WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH VEHICLE STALLED. DRIVER WAS NOT ABLE TO RESTART VEHICLE, AND IT WAS TOWED TO DEALER FOR INSPECTION NUMEROUS TIMES. MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE DISTRIBUTOR CAP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, AND REPLACED IT THREE TIMES. *AK
DT: THE CALLER STATED THE PARKING BRAKE DID NOT HOLD. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE WITH A MANUAL TRANSMISSION, BUT NOT ON THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. DEALER SAID THEY WOULD LOOK AT IT, AND THEY WOULD CHANGE THE PARKING BRAKE WITH ONE THAT HAS BEEN DESIGNED DIFFERENTLY. MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED YET. CALLER INDICATED THAT THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN GETTING WORSE OVER THE PAST THREE YEARS. INSPECTOR TOLD CALLER HE NEEDED TO GET PROBLEM FIXED OR NEXT YEAR IT WILL PROBABLY NOT PASS INSPECTION. THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM WITH EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCES WHEN BRAKING AT ANY SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A REPAIR SHOP. THE MECHANIC CLEANED THE ABS SENSORS AND BOTH FRONT HUBS. *JB THE ABS SYSTEM FAILED COMPLETLY WHEN THE CONSUMER BACKED THE VEHICLE UP. *TC
VEHICLE LOST POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES WHILE DRIVING.*MR DEALER NOTIFIED. *CB
DT: CONSUMER HAS BEEN HAVING TROUBLE WITH ABS SENSORS. FIRST INCIDENT WAS OVER A YEAR AGO. AT SLOW BRAKING AT A SPEED OF 5 MPH OR LESS THE ABS SENSORS ACTIVATED, AND THIS INTEREFERED WITH THE BRAKING ITSELF. WAS UNABLE TO STOP. HAD TRUCK SERVICED IN DECEMBER 2003 FOR THIS PROBLEM. DEALER DID SCAN TEST, REMOVED WHEEL SPEED SENSOR, AND REMOVED RUST AND DEBRIS FROM IT AS WELL. CURRENTLY, HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM . CALLED GMC AND DEALER STATED THE CONSUMER WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS REPAIR UNTIL THERE WAS A RECALL. THIS PROBLEM WAS WORSE WHEN TRYING TO PARK TRUCK. THERE WAS NO BRAKING POWER LITERALLY. *AK
2001 GMC SIERRA 1500 PICK-UP AILGATE CABLES SNAPPED (BOTH) WHEN I SAT ON THE TAILGATE. I AM NOT TOO HEAVY THE CABLES ARE DEFECTIVE BY ALLOWING WATER THE SEEP INTO THE CABLE AND RUST WHILE NOT SHOWING ANY OBVIOUS PROBLEM UNTILL THE FAILURE.*AK

I WAS STANDING ON THE TAILGATE OF MY 2001 GMC K3500 PREPARING TO UNLOAD MY NEW REFRIDGERATOR WHEN THE CABLES SNAPPED. THIS CAUSED ME TO FALL BACK DOWN ON THE STEPS TO MY FRONT PORCH. I HAVE BEAN HAVING MID TO UPPER BACK AND NECK PROBLEMS SINCE THIS HAPPENED. I HAVE BEGAN SEEING A CHIROPRACTOR AND A ACUPUNCTURIST IN ORDER TO KEEP GOING TO WORK. *LA
I PURCHASED THIS TRUCK WITH 13,000. MILES ON IT , RAN GREAT. AT 30000. MILES MOTOR STARTED TO PING LIKE A LIFTER WASN'T WORKING CORRECTLY. TOOK IT BACK TO DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT IT, THEY SAID IT WOULD NOT MAKE NOISE. TOOK SERVICE WRITER OUT AND STARTED TRUCK, ENGINE MADE LOAD KNOCKING NOISE. HE STATED THAT GMC SAID THAT WAS NORMAL FOR THAT ENGINE AND THAT IT STARTS AT 10,000.-19,000. MILES. BEEN IN CONTACT WITH GMC. THEY STATE IT WON'T HURT MOTOR,I DON"T NO WHY IT WOULDN'T, METAL AGAINST METAL WILL WEAR WITH TIME!!!!!!!!THEY ARE WILLING TO GIVE A EXTENDED WARRANTY TO 100,000. MILES !!!! I DON"T WANT IT I WANT MY TRUCK FIXED UNDER THE WARRANTY 3YR/36,000 THAT I HAVE. IF THEY WON'T HONOR THAT WARRANTY WHAT MAKES ME THINK THEY WILL HONOR 100,000. WARRANTY. *NLM
FIRESTONE STEELTEX R4SII TREAD SEPARATION OF TWO TIRES WITHIN FOUR DAYS .*AK
DT: CALLER SAID AT LOW SPEEDS THE ABS KICKED IN AND MADE IT HARD TO STOP VEHICLE WHEN SLOWING DOWN. CALLER HAD THE PROBLEM CORRECTED THREE TIMES. HAD THEM REPLACE THE ABS IN THE SPRING OF 2003, 2004 AND IN MAY OF 2005. DEALER SAID THE FIRST TIME WAS A HUB ASSEMBLY AND THE OTHER TWO IT WAS THE ROTORS. MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED YET.*AK
ENGINE PINGS/KNOCKS ON EVEN SLIGHT ACCELERATION. *JB
2 FIRESTONE LT265/75R16 DEVELOPED A CRACK WHICH RAN HALFWAY AROUND THE TIRE UP TO A QUARTER OF AN INCH WIDE IN BETWEEN THE OUTSIDE TREAD AND THE 1ST INSIDE TREAD. TIRES HAD APPROXIMATELY. 16,000 MILES ON THEM. COULD HAVE BEEN A POTENTIAL ACCIDENT AS WE WERE LEAVING ON A TRIP PULLING A HORSE TRAILER. *JB
FAILURE OCCURS BELOW 15MPH WHILE DOING A NORMAL STOP ON BOTH WET AND DRY ROAD (WITH NO CONTAMINANTS ON THE ROAD TO AFFECT BRAKING). THIS HAS HAPPENED EIGHT TIMES IN THE 8500 MILES I HAVE DRIVEN THE VEHICLE, WITH THE EIGHTH TIME RESULTING IN AN ACCIDENT. EVENT COURSE IS THAT I AM COMING TO A NORMAL STOP, AND WHILE MY FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE I PUSH SLIGHTLY MORE ON THE PEDAL IN AN INSTANCE WHERE A LITTLE MORE BRAKE IS NEEDED TO STOP BEFORE WHERE I HAD ORIGINALLY PLANNED. IMMEDIATELY THE ABS KICKS IN (I CAN HEAR A WHIRRING SOUND BUT THE BRAKES PEDAL DOES NOT FLUCTUATE), AND I LOOSE ABOUT 50% OF THE BRAKING POWER RIGHT WHEN I NEED MORE TO STOP SOONER. OBVIOUSLY THE VEHICLE KEEPS MOVING FORWARD PAST WHERE I NEED IT TO STOP. THIS VEHICLE IS OWNED BY SEATTLE PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND IS A MAINTENANCE VEHICLE. THE MAINTENANCE SHOP AND DEALER CLAIM THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE, AND I HAVE REFUSED TO DRIVE IT. REAR WHEEL BEARING SEALS HAVE BEEN REPLACED. I AM THE OWNER OF A 2001 GMC (4-DOOR) EXTENDED CAB PICK UP (SHORT BED). THE TRUCK CAME EQUIPPED WITH GOODYEAR WRANGLER TIRES. THE DOT CODE FOR THE TIRES IS AS FOLLOWS: DOT M63D EKWR 4200 (TIRES 0715, 0801, 1131, 1132). THE TIRES HAVE APPROXIMATELY 18,500 MILES ON THEM. THEY HAVE BEEN REGULARLY SERVICED - AIR PRESSURE CHECKS AND ROTATION. THE SUBJECT TIRES HAVE VERY VERY POOR WET WEATHER TRACTION. I CONSIDERED THEM DANGEROUS SO THEY WERE REPLACED. IT SEEMS TO BE RATHER COMMON KNOWLEDGE THAT THESE TIRES HAVE POOR WET TRACTION. I DRAW THIS CONCLUSION BY MY CONVERSATION WITH A GOODYEAR DEALER AND POSTINGS ON THE INTERNET AT TIRERACK.COM AND DISCOUNTTIRE.COM (WHERE PEOPLE COMMENT.) GM AND/OR GOODYEAR SHOULD CONSIDER HAVING BETTER WET WEATHER TRACTION FOR THE APPLICATION.
PURCHASED FROM DEALERSHIP WITH A 2-YR INSPECTION STICKER. AFTER STICKER EXPIRED, WENT TO HAVE VEHICLE INSPECTED. FAILED DUE TO VEHICLE WILL MOVE FORWARD EVEN THOUGH EMERGENCY BRAKE IS ENGAGED. INSPECTOR COMMENTED THAT MANY GMC SIERRAS ARE FAILING DUE TO THIS REASON. CONTACTED DEALERSHIP SERVICE ADVISOR WHO ALSO AGREED WITH STATEMENT. HE SAID GMC WAS REPAIRING AT NO COST THOSE VEHICLES THAT HAD 36,000 MILES OR LESS. SINCE OURS HAS 55,000 MILES RECOMMENDED CONTACTING GMC. CONTACTED GMC WHO SAID THEY HAVE NO EVIDENCE OF THIS BEING A COMMON PROBLEM, BUT ARE REPAIRING VEHICHLES IF LESS THAN 23.000 MILES WITH THIS PROBLEM AT NO CHARGE. IN ADDITION GMC SAID PROBLEM IS DUE TO THE WEARING OF EMERGENCY BRAKE PADS. COMPLAINT #8006225 IS SIMILAR TO OURS.
MY VEHICLE TAPS VERY LOUD WHEN I FIRST CRANK COLD ENGINE. DEALER SAYS THIS IS CARBON BUILD-UP BECAUSE OF NEW EMMISIONS REGULATIONS AND WONT HARM ENGINE. MY DEALER SAYS THEY CAN PERFORM A TREATMENT FOR APPROX. $100.00 THAT WILL CORRECT BUT NEEDS TO BE DONE EVERY 20000 MILES. MY VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER NEW CAR WARRANTY BUT THEY SAID THIS SERVICE IS NOT COVERED. I HAVE SEVERAL FRIEND EXPERIENCING SAME PROBLEM. I FEEL THIS IS A DEFECT IN THE NEW GENERAL MOTORS ENGINE. THANKS
ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM- VERY DIFFICULT TO STOP TRUCK AT LOW SPEEDS. NO ACCIDENTS, BUT NEAR ACCIDENTS, AND NO INJURIES. RIGHT FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSORS WERE REPLACED ON 10/29/2003 AND THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSORS WERE REPLACED ON 10/08/2004. BOTH WERE REPLACED AFTER THE 36,000 MILE WARRANTY EXPIRED. REPEATED FAILURES OF THE TRUCK BRACKING SYSTEM TO STOP IN SUFFICIENT TIME BEFORE PANIC SET IN!
ENGINE KNOCKS WHEN STARTING COLD AND WHEN PULLING A TRAILER OR UNDER A LOAD. TOOK TRUCK TO DEALER AND WAS ADVISED THAT ALL THE 5.3 LITER ENGINES WILL EVENTUALLY DO IT. ALSO SAID THAT GENERAL MOTORS IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. I THEN CALLED GENERAL MOTORS AND ASKED THEM ABOUT THE PROBLEM. THEY SAID THAT IT WAS A CARBON BUILD UP. SO THEY HAD THE DEALER DO A DECARBONASATION WHICH REMOVES THE CARBON BUILD UP. WHEN IT WAS FINISHED, IT WAS WORSE THAN IT WAS BEFORE THEY WORKED ON IT. I CALLED GENERAL MOTORS BACK AND THEN THEY TOLD ME THAT THE PISTONS ARE SMALLER THAN NORMAL AND THAT THEY ARE SLAPPING AROUND IN THE CYLINDER WALLS CAUSING THE KNOCKING NOISE, AND THAT THEY ARE NOT DOING NOTHING ABOUT IT BECAUSE IT IS NOT DOING ANY DAMAGE TO THE MOTOR. THEY OFFERED ME AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE DRIVE TRAIN AND I DECLINED IT. I PAID FOR A QUIET RUNNING GAS MOTOR, NOT ONE THAT SOUNDS LIKE A DIESEL. THE KNOCKING NOISE DECREASES THE TRADE IN VALUE, REGARDLESS IF IT IS DAMAGING THE MOTOR OR NOT. IF I WANTED A DIESEL I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT ONE. I HAVE BEEN GOING ROUND AND ROUND WITH GM AND THE DEALER FOR ALMOST TWO YEARS AND HAVE GOT NOWHERE.

2001 GMC SIERRA Z71 WITH 5.3L VORTEC ENGINE. ENGINE KNOCKS LOUDLY FOR APPROXIMATELY 10 SECONDS ON EVERY COLD START. CALLED THE DEALER AND SPOKE WITH SERVICE DEPARTMENT. PERSON I SPOKE WITH STATED THAT "ALL 5.3 LITER ENGINES DO THAT" AND THAT IT WAS "NORMAL". I EMAILED GMC WITH MY CONCERN AND THEY REPLIED: WE HAVE CONTACTED YOUR DEALER TO REVIEW THIS CONCERN. ACCORDING TO THE INFORMATION THEY PROVIDED AND THAT WE HAVE HERE, THIS TICK IS A CHARACTERISTIC OF THIS ENGINE. IT HAS BEEN DETERMINED THAT THIS TICK IS NOT INDICATIVE OF ANY DAMAGE BEING DONE TO THE ENGINE AND DOES NOT COMPROMISE THE LONGEVITY OR DURABILITY OF THE ENGINE OR ITS COMPONENTS. I WAS DRIVING AT THE POSTED SPEED LIMIT ON I-40 APPOX. 130 MILES EAST OF BASTOW CLAIF. IT WAS 1030AM TEMP. WAS LESS THAN 90 DEGREES. THE TRUCK SUDDENLY STARTED SHAKING VIOLENTLY AND THEN THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE SEEMED TO EXPLODE AND THE TRUCK WENT IN TO THE MEDIAN. I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO NOT ROLL OR DIE. WHEN I INSPECTED THE FRONT TIRE TREAD WAS 3/4 GONE (SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE) BUT THE TIRE STILL HELD AIR. THAT WAS THE ONLY SAVING GRACE. I TOW A 17000LB 5TH WHEEL TRAILER; HAD I BEEN TOWING THE TRAILER I DO NOT BELIEVE I WOULD BE WRITING YOU NOW. THERE WAS ALSO SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS OF DAMAGE TO THE WHEEL WELL AREA OF THE TRUCK FROM THE TIRE TREAD SLAPPING IT. I SPENT $700. TODAY REPLACING ALL THE DANGEROUS TIRES ENCLUDING THE SPARE. SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE TO SAFEGUARD THE PUBLIC FROM THIS DANGEROUS REALITY.*AK
