DT: ALL THE BRAKES FAILED PREMATURELY AT 50,000. THE BRAKES WERE MAKING A SQUEAKING NOISE, THOUGHT IT WAS BRAKE PADS, TOOK TO DEALER, AND THEY SAID HAD COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE. USE VEHICLE FOR LOADING AND UNLOADING BOATS IN THE SALT WATER. HAD 6 OTHER GMC VEHICLES AND NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM. *AK *TT *NM
I OWN A 2001 GMC SIERRA PICKUP AND HAVE A CONCERN ABOUT THE RECENT INVESTIGATION YOU ARE DOING ON THE BRAKES FADING AT SLOW SPEEDS. OVER THE WINTER THIS VEHICLE STARTED DOING THE SAME THING. LESS THAN 10 MPH IT ACTS LIKE THE ANTILOCK BRAKES ARE KICKING IN EXCEPT THE DIFFERENCE IS IT WONT STOP. YOU MUST QUICKLY PUMP THE PEDAL AND THEN THE BRAKES WORK. I AM TOLD THIS IS A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR AND MY HOPES ARE THAT THERE WILL BE A RECALL AND GM WILL HAVE TO PICK UP THE TAB. CAN YOU TELL ME IF THIS IS A POSSIBILITY IN THE NEAR FUTURE OR SHOULD I HAVE THEM REPAIRED AND HOPE IT DOESN'T HAPPEN AGAIN? THE CONSUMER HEARD A CLUNKING NOISE AND A PULSATING SENSATION IN THE STEERING COLUMN WHILE MAKING TURNS. *NM THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT THE WRONG LUBRICANT WAS USED AT THE FACTORY FOR THE STEERING COLUMN SHAFT. THE SHAFT WAS UNABLE TO BE LUBRICATED BECAUSE THE LUBRICANT WOULD NOT PENETRATE BETWEEN THE FIRST AND SECOND SLEEVE. THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT WAS REPLACED AND THE PROBLEM GOT WORSE. FOUR WHEEL DRIVE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. *TC
I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2001 GMC SIERRA,THE FIRST TANK OF FUEL THAT WAS PUT IN THE FUEL GAGE JUMPS FROM FULL TO EMPTY, IT HAS CONTINUED TO DO THIS UNTIL THE CURRENT DATE, I HAVE SEVERAL PEOPLE I HAVE TALKED TO IN MY AREA WITH SAME VEHICLE WITH DIFFERENT YEARS 1999-2002, EXPERIENCING SAME PROBLEM, WAS TOLD BY MECHANICS THAT IT IS THE FUEL SENDING UNIT, HAVE TALKED TO PEOPLE WHO'S VEHICLE"S HAVE SHUT DOWN BECAUSE OF IT, SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM,VERY UNSAFE!*JB
WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT. SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE LOST POWER STEERING. HOWEVER, CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND DROVE IT TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE POWER STEERING PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NEW, THE PARKING BRAKE PEDAL HAS BEEN SOFT (GOES TO THE FLOOR WHEN PRESSED), AND PARKING BRAKES HAVE FAILED TO HOLD VEHICLE ON INCLINES OF GREATER THAN 25 - 30 DEGREES. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE IN THE SHOP AND HAVE SPENT HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS TRYING TO FIX WITH ADJUSTMENT AND NEW PARTS; ALL RESULTED IN LITTLE OR NO SUCCESS. ONE OCCASION THE TRUCK ACTUALLY ROLLED DOWN A HILL WITH THE PARKING BRAKE SET. FORTUNATELY, NO DAMAGE OR INJURIES. I DON'T TRUST THE P-BRAKE AT ALL; I ALWAYS CHOCK THE TIRES WHEN PARKED ON ANY INCLINE. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH UNDER NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE HYDRAULIC BRAKING SYSTEM FAILED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE ABS ACTIVATED AT LOW SPEEDS. THERE WAS NO WARNING PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. AS A RESULT, WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKE, THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP AND RESULTED IN TWO REAR END COLLISIONS. THE ACCIDENTS WERE REPORTED TO THE INSURANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE SERVICE DEALER WHO COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED BUT DENIED THE CLAIM. UPDATED 10/25/2006 - *NM
ABS FRONT SPEED SENSOR RIGHT HAND(PASSENGER) SIDE FAILURE. WHEN APPLYING BRAKES OUR 2001 GMC SIERRA Z71 AT SPEEDS BELOW 5MPH WOULD ACT LIKE THE ABS SYSTEMS WAS KICKING IN FOR SLIPPERY ROAD CONDITIONS. THIS WOULD CAUSE US NOT BEING ABLE TO STOP WHEN WE WOULD OF LIKED TO OF STOPPED. THIS TRUCK HAS ONLY 35,000 MILES OF ADULT DRIVEN, EASY, MOSTLY NON-TOWN DRIVING, SO THE BRAKES ARE NOT CONTINUALLY BEING APPLIED. THIS IS A VERY SCARY SITUATION AND WE HAD TO PARK THIS TRUCK UNTIL WE WERE ABLE TO GET IT INTO THE SHOP AND HAVE IT REPAIRED. COST OF REPAIR $391.36. *AK
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE DID NOT WORK PROPERLY. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, AND THEY ADJUSTED THE CABLE. THIS ADJUSTMENT DID NOT TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER STATED THEY WERE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, HOWEVER, THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT BECAUSE THERE WAS NO RECALL AT THIS TIME. HE STATED THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE REAR ROTORS. THE ROTOR/DRUM ASSEMBLY RUSTED. THE RUSTING WAS CAUSING A DECREASE IN THE BRAKING POWER. THE ROTORS WERE SO RUSTED THEY COULD NOT BE TURNED. *AK UPDATED 11/30/2005 - *NM
THE THROTTLE STUCK. IT WAS NOT A CONTINUOUS PROBLEM. AFTER VEHICLE HAD BEEN DRIVEN AND WOULD BE PARKED,CONSUMER RESTARTED VEHICLE AND HAD TO APPLY MORE PRESSURE THAN USUAL IN ORDER TO HAVE ACCELERATOR PEDAL RELEASED. WHEN THIS HAPPENED VEHICLE JUMPED OR WOULD TAKE OFF ON ITS OWN. VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY WHICH THE DEALERSHIP/MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT HONOR. *AK
PASSENGER SEAT BELT LOCKS UP, REQUIRING IT TO BE UNBUCKLED AND FULLY RETRACTED BEFORE IT CAN BE FASTENED AGAIN.*AK
THE ANTILOCK BRAKES ENGAGED AT 10 MPH WHILE DRIVING ON DRY ROAD CONDITIONS. THE PROBLEM WAS REPAIRED ON OCTOBER 14, 2004. THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO INTERNAL HUB FAILURE IN WHICH BOTH HUBS WERE REPLACED. *AK THE BRAKES NEVER FAILED AT HIGH SPEEDS. THE ABS LIGHT STAYED ON. *SC *JB
WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH, THE DRIVER SIDE REAR TIRE LOST ITS TREAD, BUT IT DID NOT GO FLAT. THE ENTIRE TREAD WAS GONE. THE CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO DRIVE ON THE TIRE. THE CONSUMER HAD ALL OF THE TIRES REPLACED. THE TIRE MANUFACTURER OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. *JB
THE HARNESS WIRING ON THE STEERING WHICH CONTROLLED THE HEADLIGHTS OVERHEATED AND MELTED. THEY WERE SO MASHED TOGETHER THAT THEY HAD BEGAN TO RUB AGAINST OTHER WIRES. THE WIPERS AND HEADLIGHTS WERE INOPERABLE. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. *JB
WHILE DRIVING CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKES AND PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND IT HIT A TRUCK HEAD ON. UPON IMPACT, BOTH FRONTAL AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. DRIVER 'S SIDE SEAT BELT BROKE LOOSE , AND THE DRIVER WAS EJECTED FROM THE VEHICLE. DRIVER SUSTAINED HEAD, BACK AND LEG INJURIES, AND WAS MEDIVACED BY HELICOPTER TO A HOSPITAL. VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND TOTALED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. *AK
THE TAILGATE CABLES WERE REPLACED UNDER RECALL. THE NEW CABLES WERE UNEQUAL IN LENGTH WHICH PLACED ALL OF THE WEIGHT ON THE TAILGATE ON ONE CABLE. *AK *SC
DT: THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL 05V379000 CONCERNING ABS BRAKES. HAD PREVIOUSLY THE REPAIR WORK DONE. WHEN SHE CONTACTED GENERAL MOTORS, THEY TOLD HER THEY WOULD REIMBURSE HER FOR THE REPAIR WORK, BUT SHE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR HALF OF THE REMAINING REPAIR WORK. . SINCE REPAIRS THE ABS LIGHT HAS BEEN ON AND IT FEELS AS THOUGH THE BRAKES DO NOT WORK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP , AND THEY FOUND THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK THE ABS REMAINED LIT AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE MADE. UPDATED 11/29/05. *JB
DT : THE CONTACT STATED ON OCTOBER 1, 2004 THE ABS LIGHT WAS CAME ON AND STAYED ON INTERMITTENTLY. CONTACT HAS TO INCREASE STOPPING DISTANCE IN ORDER TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP. THE ABS SYSTEM WILL ACTIVATED WHEN COMING TO A STOP. CONTACT STATED SHE HAS TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL DEALERS, AND THEY SAID THE ABS MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ALSO, THE CONTACT STATES THAT THE ABS SYSTEM DID NOT WORK AT ALL NOW. THE ABS BRAKES EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM MENTIONED IN THE RECALL. HOWEVER, WHEN CONTACTING THE DEALER THEY CLAIMED THAT REPLACING THE ABS MODULE WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. *AK
ABS BRAKE CONTROL ACTIVATES AS TRUCK COMES TO A STOP AT LOW SPEED. *AK
GMC 2001 SIERRA. BRAKES STARTED TO PULSATE WHEN STOPPING. ONLY 23,000 MILES ON ODOMETER. THE FRONT ROTORS WERE TOO RUSTED AND PITTED TO RESURFACE. THE DEALER REPLACED THEM, BUT SAID IT WAS MY FAULT THEY RUSTED BECAUSE I "DID NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE ENOUGH". THEY WOULD NOT COVER THE PADS UNDER WARRANTY.
A GMC SERVICE MANAGER CONVEYED TO ME THAT SEVERAL GM TRUCK OWNERS HAVE REPORTED EXCESSIVE WEAR TO THE STEERING SHAFT LEADING THROUGH THE FIREWALL. WEAR AT A U JOINT OCCURS AROUND 15,000 TO 25,000 MILES DUE TO EXCESSIVE TORQUE ON THE JOINT, AS EXPLAINED TO ME BY A GM SERVICE MANAGER. GM HAS RECOGNIZED THE PROBLEM BY PROVIDING A NEW STEERING ROD. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT KEPT THE OLD PART. HOPEFULLY THIS FIXES THE PROBLEM. THIS FIX CAME AT A COST OF $180.00 TO ME. THIS COST, I BELIEVE, SHOULD BE BORN BY GM. IF THE STEERING ROD IS LEFT UNREPLACED, COULD LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL RESULT FOR THESE VEHICLES OVER TIME? I OWN A 2001 GMC SIERRA 2500HD, 6 LITER, V8.*AK
BRAKES FAIL TO STOP MY 2001 GMC PU WHILE TURN INTO A PARKING SPOT IT CAUSED ME TO CRASH INTO A PARKED TRUCK . THE BRAKE PEADEL WAS HARD AS A ROCK. KNOW I'M HAVING TO REPAIR THIS PERSON TRUCK. THANK GOD THEIR WAS NO PEOPLE IN FRONT OF ME !!!TRYING TO ASK DEALERN FOR RECALLS AN TECH BULLETINS NO LUCK SO FAR ABS SYSY IN NOT RIGHT KNOW ACT TO SOON. PLEASE HELP FOR SOME ONE GET KILLED.
WHILE TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE 10 IN EL PASO, TEXAS, THE LEFT REAR TIRE (MICHELIN XPS RIB 245-75R-16) ON MY PICKUP CATASTROPHICALLY FAILED, CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE TRUCK AND A POTENTIALLY DEADLY SITUATION ON THE INTERSTATE. THE TIRE IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE, BUT PICTURES OF THE FAILED CARCAS ARE. AS ALL FOUR TIRES WERE THE SAME MODEL AND PURCHASED AT THE SAME TIME, IT WAS NECESSARY THAT ALL FOUR BE REPLACED IN ADDITION TO BODY REPAIR TO THE TRUCK.*AK
DRIVIND DOWN 1603 EAST BOUND APPROACHING STOP LIGHT AND FELT SMALL RIPPLES IN THE ROAD AND ANTI LOCK SYSTEM KICKED IN AND WAS UNABLE TO STOP IN TIME AND HIT A FULL SIZE 2001 TO 2004 CHEVY PICK UP IN THE REAR BUMPER. NO INJURIES AND CRASH WAS BETWEEN 10 AND 20 MPH AND AN ESTIMATE OF DAMAGE BETWEEN THE 2 VEHICLES WAS 2000.00 TO 2500.00. AS OF MAY 3 2005 I AM HAVING THE BRAKES SERVICED AND SENSORS CHECKED. AFTER READING THE ARTICLE ON THE INTERNET ABOUT A POSSIBILITY OF A PROBLEM WITH THE ANTI-LOCK SYSTEM I THOUGHT IT MIGHT HAVE JUST BEEN A FLUKE BEING THAT THIS HAPPENED ON DRY PAVEMENT AND SUNNY CONDITIONS.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2001 GMC HD PICKUP WHEN I LOST POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES AT THE SAME TIME DUE TO A SHAFT IN THE POWER STEERING PUMP BREAKING. THE POWER STEERING AND BRAKES ARE BOTH DRIVEN BY THE SAME PUMP. THE REPAIR SHOP INDICATED THIS WAS NOT THE FIRST TIME THEY HAVE SEEN THIS PROBLEM AND THE SHAFT WAS A "POOR" DESIGN BECAUSE IT NARROWS AT ONE END WHICH IS WHERE THEY HAVE SEEN THEM BREAK IN SIMILAR VEHICLES. *JB
DT: THE CONTACT RECEIVED RECALL 05V379 CONCERNING ABS BRAKES. THE ABS SYSTEM WAS CLEANED PREVIOUSLY AND THE SENSOR WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. HE WAS EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEMS AGAIN. THEREFORE, HE FELT THE RECALL REMEDY WAS ONLY A TEMPORARY SOLUTION. GENERAL MOTORS SHOULD OFFER A PERMANENT SOLUTION. AN APPOINTMENT HAS BEEN MADE FOR HAVING THE RECALL WORK COMPLETED AT THIS TIME. *AK
PREMATURE FAILURE OF REAR BRAKE SYSTEM. AT 48005 MILES THE ENTIRE REAR BRAKE SYSTEM COMPRISED OF ROTORS AND PADS NEEDED REPLACEMENT DUE TO DETERIORATION. THE BRAKES WERE IN SUCH A STATE THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT PASS INSPECTION. THE FRONT BRAKES ONLY HAD NORMAL WEAR. 50% OF THE VEHICLES MILES ARE ON THE NYS THRUWAY.*AK
THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INSPECTION AGENCY FOR INSPECTION. THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THE DRIVER THAT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS INOPERATIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE DRIVER THAT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *LA
SINCE WE'VE HAD THIS TRUCK, THE ACELERATOR STICKS AND YOU HAVE TO PRESS IT HARD TO GET THE VEHICLE TO MOVE, THEN IT RACES FOR A SECOND AND JUMPS FORWARD OR REVERSE. THIS HAPPENS WHEN IT IS AT A COMPLETE STOP, WHEN YOU'RE STARTING OFF. IT IS DANGEROUS IN TRAFFIC SITUATIONS, SUCH AS FREQUENT STOP & GO TRAFFIC, AND WHEN YOU'RE TRYING TO MANEUVER IN TIGHT SPACES, SUCH AS PARKING. I'M SURE THAT IT ALSO CAUSES EXCESS FUEL CONSUMPTION. *TR
TRUCK WILL RUN FINE UNTIL WARM. PULLING INTO STOP SIGN, GARAGE, TRAFFIC LIGHT,PARKING LOT ETC. TRUCK WILL SHUT OFF. ALTERNATOR GAUGE PULLS DOWN BELOW 9 VOLTS. NEW ALT. BELT, NEW ALTERNATOR, NEW FUEL FILTER WERE REPLACED. SEVERAL BOTTLES OF INJECTOR CLEANER WERE USED OVER A SIX MONTH PERIOD. NOTHING HELPED SO FAR. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL NEAR ACCIDENTS DUE TO THIS. THE LAST ONE WAS ON A DIVIDED HIGHWAY WHEN I STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN AND THE ENGINE STOPED AND I ENDED UP OUT INTO THE SOUTH OBUND LANES OF TRAFFIC. LUCKILY NOTHING WAS COMING.*AK
THE ROTORS WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED, PREVENTING THE BRAKES FROM WORKING EFFECTIVELY. CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, AND BECAUSE IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY, DEALER WANT TO CHARGE THE CONSUMER FOR REPAIRS. VEHICLE HAD 57,000 MILES. CONSUMER BOUGHT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY, AND THE DEALER CLAIMED THAT THE WARRANTY DIDN'T COVER THE ROTORS. *AK
MY 2001 GMC SIERRA 4X4 PICKUP WAS DESIGNED WITH THE REAR BRAKE CALIPERS INSTALLED ON THE FRONT OF THE ROTORS. ANY ROAD DEBRIS THROWN-UP BY THE FRONT WHEELS CAUSES THE REAR BRAKES TO MALFUNCTION. THE TRUCK HAS 44600 MILES ON IT. THE FRONT BRAKE PADS ARE IN EXCELLENT SHAPE. THE REAR PADS, ON THE OUTSIDE, ARE IN EXCELLENT SHAPE. THE REAR PADS, ON THE INSIDE, ARE WORN TO THE METAL. I COMPLAINED ABOUT A NOISE IN THE REAR END WHILE IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY.THE REAR BRAKES ALWAYS HANG WHEN YOU STOP, THEN MAKE TWIN POPPING SOUNDS WHEN YOU START-OFF AGAIN. THE PROBLEM WAS NEVER FOUND OR FIXED. THIS IS NOT EASY TO DETECT AND COULD LEAD TO SEVERE BRAKE FAILURE. *AK
2001 GMC SIERRA WHEN I COME IN FOR STOP THE ABS KICKS IN AND THE TRUCK WILL NOT STOP. WILL GO ABOUT 5 TO 10 FEET FROM WERE YOU WANT IT TO STOP IT. I CALLED GMC AFTER HEARING ABOUT THE RECALL FOR 2001 TRUCKS AND THEY SAID THAT MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT ON THE RECALL THEY HAD TO OF USED THE SAME PARTS ON ALL OF THEIR TRUCKS FOR THAT YEAR SO THEY ARE LYING AND MY BRAKE ROTORS FALL APART ABOUT 41,000 MILES FRONT AND BACK THEY REPLACED THEM AFTER SOME '!@#$% ON MY END AND WHEN I HIT 83,000 MILES THE HIGH QUALITY GMC ROTORS THAT THEY REPLACED FALL APART ON ME AGAIN AND THEY SAID THAT WAS NORMAL AND WOULD NOT REPLACE THEM. *JB

2001 GMC SIERRA WITH 6065 MILES THAT IS 6 THOUSAND. 65 MILES ... TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE. ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS TOTALLY SHOT.. NOT DRIVABLE!!!! CLOSE TO KILLING SOMEONE, (SCHOOL BUS FULL OF KIDS) MADE IT TO DEALER, TOLD THE BAD NEWS, UNBELIEVABLE!! 40 THOUSAND DOLLAR TRUCK WITH 6065 ACTUAL MILES AND NO FRIGGING BRAKES!!!! REPAIR BIL OVER 1500 DOLLARS!! GMC SAYS SUCKS TO BE ME.. NO HELP, NO FIX, NOT DRIVEABLE. WHAT IF SOMEONE WAS ACTUALLY KILLED??? WOULD GMC CARE? NO!!!!! 1. HAVE HAD SEVERAL FAILURES OF ABS SYSTEM IN MY 2001 GMC SIERRA 4X4. THERE WERE NO EXACT EVENTS LEADING UP TO THIS PROBLEM. 2. FAILURES HAVE NOT RESULTED IN ANY MAJOR ACCIDENTS, BUT HAVE COME CLOSE TO CAUSING ACCIDENTS EITHER SOLO OR WITH OTHER VEHICLES BECAUSE THE VEHICLE DID NOT WANT TO STOP. I HAVE FISHTAILED BECAUSE OF THIS, ALMOST HIT A POLE, ALMOST HIT OTHER VEHICLES, ETC. THE ABS SHOULD ENGAGE AND STOP ME, BUT WHEN I BRAKE HARD FOR ANY REASON, THE BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR AND I DON'T STOP LIKE I SHOULD. THIS IS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AS WELL AS RESIDENTIAL (<25 MPH) SPEEDS! AT NO TIME DID I HAVE ANY PRE-WARNING OF AN IMPENDING FAILURE. MY TRUCK IS EQUIPED WITH THE SERVICE/WARNING COMPUTER ON THE DASH, AND AT NO TIME DID IT EVER STATE THERE WAS A PROBLEM OR PENDING PROBLEM WITH MY ABS SYSTEM. THE [XXX] THING TELLS ME WHEN IT'S TIME FOR AN OIL CHANGE, BUT WHEN IT COMES TO SOMETHING AS IMPORTANT AS MY BRAKES IT DOES NOTHING. 3. WHILE UNDER WARRANTY, I HAD THE SAME CODE SHOW UP ON MY VEHICLE AND HAD THE SAME PARTS REPLACED AND THE SAME DIAGNOSIS OF A SHORT IN THE ABS SYSTEM. THIS IS NOT THE ONLY ELECTRICAL SHORT I HAVE HAD IN THE SYSTEM (4X4 LIGHT AND OTHER WARNINGS HAVE COME UP FOR NO REASON BEFORE, BUT NEVER ANYTHING WITH THE ABS), BUT IT IS THE ONE THAT I AM MOST CONCERNED ABOUT. NOW THAT I AM OUT OF WARRANTY, AND GMC DIDN'T WANT TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM (IE LET ME EXCHANGE THE TRUCK WHILE IT WAS STILL NEWER, OR EXTEND MY WARRANTY, ETC.), I AM COMPLAINING STRONGLY BECAUSE THE FAILURE IS BACK. I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THIS TRUCK FROM DAY ONE OF HAVING IT, STARTING WITH A RADIATOR LEAK, TRANSMISSION U-JOINT WAS WORN ON DELIVERY AND HAD TO BE REPLACED, ON TO THE DEALER SWAPPING MY WHEELS AND TIRES FOR ONES OFF A DIFFERENT TRUCK, ELECTRICAL SHORTS THAT CAUSE OTHER WARNINGS TO COME ON THAT AREN'T REAL PROBLEMS, THE WINDOW GUIDE IS BROKEN...BUT NEVER ONCE DID THE ABS WARNING COME ON! THE EMERGENCY BRAKES ON MY TRUCK HAVE ONLY BEEN ACTUALLY USED 4-5 TIMES. THEY DO NOT HOLD AND I'M TOLD WILL NOT PASS MY ANNUAL SAFETY INSPECTION. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY SEVERAL MECHANICS ( AND CONFIDENTIALLY BY A SERVICE REP AT A DEALER) THAT THE DESIGN OF THE GMC AND CHEVROLET EMERGENCY BRAKE SYSTEM IS POORLY DESIGNED AND WHETHER ENGAGED OR NOT , THE BRAKESHOES ARE CONTINOUSLY IN CONTACT W/THE DRUMS, CAUSING THEM TO WEAR OUT VERY QUICKLY - BECOMING COMPLETELY USELESS AND VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPARE AND REPLACE - NOT TO MENTION VERY DANGEROUS.
DT: THE CONSUMER HAD THE BRAKES FIXED AND THEN FOUND OUT ABOUT A CANADA RECALL. WHEN PREPARING TO STOP IT SOUNDED AS IF THE ABS KICKED IN AND WHEN THE CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKES I T SHUTTERED, BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. THE DEALER REPLACED AT THEIR OWN EXPENSE THE LEFT SENSOR AND WHEEL BEARING ABOUT A YEAR AGO AND NOW THEY HAVE FIXED THE RIGHT SIDE. THE CONSUMER HAD TO PAY FOR IT HIMSELF, $500.50. THE REAR END WAS REPLACED FOUR TIMES. VEHICLE STARTED TO SCREAM. AFTER TAKING IT TO THE DEALER IT WAS DISCOVERED THE REAR END WAS DEFECTIVE.*AK

ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS THE FUEL INJECTOR PUMP FAILED. THE VEHICLE LEAKS FUEL FROM UNDERNEATH. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE DRIVER THAT THE FUEL INJECTOR PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND IT WAS REPLACED THREE TIMES. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM STILL OCCURS. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *LA
WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE DRIVER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AFTER HE POSSIBLY FELL A SLEEP. THE VEHICLE RAN OFF THE ROAD AND THERE WERE MULTIPLE IMPACTS, HE COLLIDED WITH A UTILITY POLE AND THE VEHICLE ROLLED. THE DRIVER WAS UNRESTRAINED AND SUSTAINED SEVERE HEAD TRAUMA, A RUPTURED SPLEEN AND A BROKEN COLLAR BONE. BOTH AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOYED AND CONSEQUENTLY THE DRIVER DIED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THERE WAS MINOR FRONT END DAMAGE BUT SIGNIFICANT ROOF DAMAGE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. *JB CW
TREAD SEPARATION ON FIRESTONE STEELTEX RADIAL A/T, LT245/75/R16, DOT VN11 BAC1301. WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED ON I80, OUTER BELT APPARENTLY BROKE, CAUSING A STRIP OF TREAD 1 1/2 " WIDE X 33" LONG TO SEPARATE FROM THE TIRE. TREAD SEPARATION WAS DIAGONAL ACROSS THE TIRE FROM OUTSIDE TO IN. TIRE WAS MOUNTED ON THE LEFT REAR OF A 2001 GMC 2500HD PICKUP TRUCK. TIRE HAD 47,600 MILES ON IT, APPROXIMATELY 30,000 ON THE REAR. TIRE DID NOT BLOW OUT OR DEFLATE, AND WAS STILL INFLATED TO 80PSI WHEN REMOVED FROM THE TRUCK. TIRE REPLACED. OLD TIRE IS AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION.
WHILE SHIFTING FROM PARK TO DRIVE A CLICKING NOISE WAS HEARD COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. WHILE DRIVING,THE DRIVER EXPERIENCING A FLUCTUATE IN SPEED. THIS CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO ACCELERATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE DRIVER FRONT AND REAR U JOINTS NEEDED REPLACING FROM THE DRIVE SHAFT. *MR *LA
MY 2001 GMC SIERRA HAS A TENDENCY TO USE OIL. IT HAPPENS AFTER ABOUT 3000 KMS AFTER AN OIL CHANGE. I BROUGHT IT UP TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME TO TRY A DIFFERENT BRAND OF OIL. I ALSO COMPLAINED ABOUT MY TRUCK ROLLS AHEAD WHEN I START IT IN COLD WEATHER. ABS ENGAGED WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE ON A DRY PAVEMENT. WHEN THIS OCCURRED, THE CONSUMER PRESSED BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP. THE VEHICLE STOPPED WHEN IT REAR ENDED A PARKED VEHICLE, AND MOVED IT 3 FEET FORWARD. DEALERSHIP INDICATED THIS WAS DUE TO A FAULTY ABS SENSOR.*AK *JB

AT 35,000 MILES HAVING EXPENSIVE PROBLEMS WITH THE ABS. BEFORE COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP, BRAKE PEDAL WOULD PULSATE AS IF ABS WAS ENGAGING. *BF THE CONSUMER HAD THE PROBLEM REPAIRED AND IT HAPPEND AGAIN ONLY ON THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL. THE BRAKES GRIND WHEN ALMOST AT A COMPLETE STOP. *TC
