WE HAVE A 2001 GMC 2500HD CREWCAB WITH THE ABS BREAKING PROBLEM. AT SLOW SPEEDS UNDER 10 MPH EVERYTIME YOU STOP THE ABS ACTIVATES NOT ALOWWING THE TRUCK TO STOP. GM NOW HAS A RECALL ON SOME MODELS BUT REFUSES TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS MY 19 YR OLDS SONS TRUCK THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED BY GM BEFORE HE GETS IN AN ACCIDENT AND KILLS HIMSELF OR SOMEONE ELSE. THERE ARE SO MANY COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. WHY IS THERE NOTHING BEING DONE WITH THE VEHICLES OUTSIDE OF GM'S RECALL. I AM SICK OF COMPANY'S MAKING CRAP AND NOT HAVING TO FIX IT. *CN
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC SIERRA 2500. WHILE TRAVELING 4 TO 10 MPH THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES AND NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD VIBRATE AND THE STOPPING DISTANCE HAD INCREASED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE SENSOR WAS REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 106000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 107000.
AT LOW SPEED THE ABS MALFUNCTIONS REGULARLY. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC SIERRA 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT FOR THE PAST YEAR THE VEHICLE HAD STALLED INTERMITTENTLY. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS PRIOR TO THE STALLING, BUT THE MESSAGE CENTER AND BATTERY LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE AFTER THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST, BUT WAS UNABLE TO DETECT ANY FAILURE CODES. THE CONTACT TRIED REPLACING THE FUEL PUMP AND RELAYS, BUT THAT DID NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT THEN BECAME AWARE OF A RECALL FOR THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR UNDER RECALL CAMPAIGN NUMBER 07V521000, ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. THE MANUFACTURER CONFIRMED THAT ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS EXPERIENCING THE SAME FAILURE, IT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 58300. BRAKES FAILED, BRAKELINE RUSTED AND LEAKED FLUID , PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. COULD NOT STOP TRUCK, EMERGENCY BRAKE DID NOT WORK EITHER, HAD TO DOWNSHIFT TO THE LOWEST GEAR, WENT OF THE ROAD TO AVOID CARS IN FRONT OF ME, TOOK 200 YARDS TO STOP. SCARY FEELING. NEVER HAD A BRAKELINE FAIL LIKE THAT. *TR

2001 GMC 1500 SIERRA 4X4 CURRENTLY HAS 68K MILES. VEHICLE SPEED SENSORS CAUSING ABS BRAKE ACTIVATION AT SPEEDS BELOW 12MPH. VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED ORIGINALLY ON 2/28/2005 FOR THIS CONDITION. VEHICLE IS HAVING A REOCCURANCE OF THIS CURRENTLY NOTICED ON OR AROUND 10/2009. VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT INTO A DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSIS AND IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT SENORS ARE IN NEED OF COMPLETE REPLACEMENT, HOWEVER GENERAL MOTORS HAS STATED THEY WILL NOT REPLACE THE SENSORTS AND A RECALL HAS NEVER EXISTED FOR SAID VEHICLE (REF NHTSA RECALL# 05V379000). GENERAL MOTORS CONTACT THAT STATED THIS RECALLL DID NOT EXIST. CURRENTLY, THE FAILURE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED, AND OLD PARTS ARE AVAILABLE. THIS CONDITION OCCURS 95% OF THE TIME WHEN BRAKING BELOW 12MPH, AND MAKES IT EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STOP THE VEHICLE AT INTERSECTIONS, TRAFFIC, ETC. LOOKING FOR GM TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM BEFORE ANY ACCIDENTS OR INJURIES OCCUR. ALSO PARKING BRAKE HAS NEVER SUFFICIENTLY HELD VEHICLE AS IT GETS DEPRESSED TO FLOOR AND VEHICLE STILL CAN ROLL, PROMOTING A HAZARD TO OTHERS IN THE VICINITY IF THE TRANSMISSION LOCK GIVES OUT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC 3500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE INJECTION PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED TWO YEARS LATER. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE INJECTION PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 19,000.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED RUNNING, SOME SECONDS LATER IT RESTARTED. TWICE SINCE THEN THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START, BUT THEN STARTED SOMETIME LATER. I HAD THE VEHICLE REPAIRED AT SHARON CHEVROLET, THEY FOUND A CODE THAT INDICATED THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR (CKP) WAS AT FAULT. THIS HAS CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. I SPOKE TO GM AND THEY SAID IT WAS NOT ON RECALL. THIS COST ME $356.30 TO REPAIR, AND IT IS EXACTLY WAS IS ON ID #07V521000 RECALL. *TR
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD IN MY 2001 GMC PICKUP WHEN THE LINE OF VEHICLES IN FRONT OF ME STARTED SLOWING DOWN,I APPLIED MY BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I HAD TO SWERVE TO MY LEFT ACROSS TRAFFIC TO AVOID REAR ENDING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. THE MOMENTUM OF THE TRUCK TOOK ME THROUGH A SMALL PARKING LOT AND INTO A BUILDING . I DO NOT HAVE THE VIN AS THIS HAPPENED ABOUT 3 ? YEARS AGO BUT I SUSPECT IT IS AVAILABLE SOMEWHERE. *TR
DRIVING IN A SINGLE LANE PORTION OF I80 AT THE 97 MILE POST. A TRACTOR TRAILER MADE A ROLLING STOP AT THE ON RAMP AND SCARED THE DRIVER IN FRONT OF ME. THE LADY HIT HER BRAKES HARD. I NATURALLY DID THE SAME ONLY MY PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AS I HAD TWO RUSTED BRAKE LINES,ONE FRONT AND ONE REAR,BLOW AT THE SAME TIME. I MANAGED TO SWERVE AND GET BETWEEN THE OTHER PICKUP AND THE TRACTOR TRAILER ONLY HITTING THE PASSENGER SIDE MIRROR ON THE OTHER PICKUP. I HAD TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO FINALLY STOP AND HAD TO HAVE MY TRUCK HAULED HOME. I CAN NOT BELIEVE THAT FROM THE NUMBER OF THESE BRAKE LINE FAILURES LISTED ON THE INTERNET AND AFTER TALKING WITH MY GARAGE ABOUT THE NUMBER OF THESE GM TRUCKS THAT HAVE HAD THE BRAKE LINES FAIL THAT NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE ABOUT IT. I HAVE TWO OTHER VEHICLES BOTH OLDER AND WITH MORE MILES ON THEM WITH BRAKE LINES NO WHERE NEAR AS BAD AS THE ONES ON MY TRUCK. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC SIERRA 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY SERVICED FOR AN UNKNOWN FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR RECALL BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. UPON RECEIVING THE VEHICLE FROM THE AUTHORIZED DEALER, THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS CONTINUED TO ILLUMINATE ON THE DASHBOARD. ON A SEPARATE OCCASION, THE ABS AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD AND THE STOPPING DISTANCE OF THE VEHICLE WAS ABNORMALLY INCREASED. ACCORDING TO THE RECALL, THE REPAIR WAS TO DECREASE STOPPING DISTANCE AND CORRECT THE ILLUMINATION OF THE WARNING LIGHTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THE BRAKES WERE CHECKED AND LUBRICATED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO RECUR AND THE CONTACT STATED WHEN DRIVING ON ROUGH SURFACES, THE STOPPING DISTANCE WAS SEVERELY INCREASED. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 SIERRA 3500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT INTERMITTENTLY THE ENGINE STALLED; HOWEVER, HE WAS ABLE TO RE-START IT IMMEDIATELY OR AFTER A COOL DOWN PERIOD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND A TECHNICIAN REPLACED THE CRANK SHAFT POSITION SENSOR AT AN EXPENSE OF $400.59. HE THEN ADDED THAT BECAUSE THE VIN NUMBER WAS EXCLUDED FROM RECALL# 07V521000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING), HE WAS INELIGIBLE FOR A FREE REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,500 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 65,550. UPDATED 10/13/09 *LJ THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE GOING THROUGH HIS FILES, HE DISCOVERED THE CAM CAM SENSOR WAS REPLACED IN AUGUST 2004. AT THAT TIME, ONLY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. IT WAS REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. THE CRANK SENSOR WAS REPLACED IN SEPTEMBER 2009. UPDATED 10/14/09. *JB

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PER RECALL 05V379000 COMPONENT: SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTILOCK ON OCTOBER, 25, 2007; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED ON AUGUST 19, 2009. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, HE NOTICED THAT THE ABS SYSTEM ACTIVATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS REQUIRED TO PAY $300 TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. REPORT 71-752849960 WAS FILED WITH THE MANUFACTURER WHO CONFIRMED THAT THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST WITH THE REPAIR BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS TOO OLD. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 45,100.
COMPLETE BRAKE FAILURE ON A 2001 GMC SIERRA 1500 PICKUP TRUCK. ON THE HW1 FWY ON THE ISLAND OF OAHU , HAWAII @ 7:30 PM HAWAIIAN TIME. WAS GOING 60 MILES PER HOUR WITH NO BRAKES. THE SYSTEM DIDNT RESPOND OR REPORT A FAILURE. HAD TOO DOWN SHIFT WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION & USE PARKING BRAKE TOO STOP VEHICAL & WAS ABLE 2 MANUEVER THE TRUCK ONTO THE SHOULDER OF HW1 FWY & SLID ON THE RED DIRT UNTIL IT STOP SIX FEET FROM A CALL BOX. PLEASE HELP TOO AVOID THIS HAPPENING TOO ANYONE ELSE. THE TRUCK IS @ GMC CUTTER IN WAIPAHU HAWAII.
AY HIGHWAY SPEED FELT VIGOROUS VIBRATION THROUGHOUT OUT MY 2001 GMC HD 2500 4X4 AS I SLOWED DOWN IT GOT WORSE NEXT THING I HEARD WAS A LOUD CRUNCH AND BANGING AND A PUFF OF SMOKE, THE TRUCK FISH TAILED SIDE TO SIDE (DUE TO THE TIRE STILL BEING INFLATED,IT DID NOT LOSE AIR PRESSURE) AND I CORRECTED IT TO SAFELY STOP . WHAT HAD HAPPENED WAS I LOST THE TREAD OFF THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE TIRE, CAUSING SEVERE DAMAGE TO THE WHEEL WELL AND FENDER AND EXHAUST. *TR

THE CONTACT THEN SHIFTED INTO PARK IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE SENSORS WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED UNDER RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTI LOCK). THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL YET THE FAILURE RECURRED WITHIN ONE YEAR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO REFERRED HIM BACK TO THE DEALER TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTICS TEST PERFORMED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A GMC 2001 SIERRA 2500 HD. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS; THE FUEL GAUGE FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE FUEL GAUGE DISPLAYED AN INACCURATE READING. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A CERTIFIED MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED FOR THE MALFUNCTION. THE CONTACT HAD CONCERNS OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. ANTI LOCK BRAKING KICKS IN WHEN IT SHOULD NOT. WE HAVE FOUND WHERE VEHICLES SOLD IN CERTAIN STATES WHERE RECALLED FOR THIS. PA IS ONE OF THOSE STATES BUT OUR TRUCK WAS NOT SOLD IN PA UNTIL IT WAS A YEAR OLD. GM SAYS THE SPEED SENSOR IS NOT COVERED DUE TO THE VIN NUMBER. THEN THEY TOLD ME IT WAS NOT COVERED DUE TO MILEAGE. BUT MY POINT IS IF I HAD BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE RECALL SEVEN YEARS AGO I WOULD NOT BE FACED WITH AN $1100.00 REPAIR NOW. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A SET OF COOPER MASTER CRAFT COURSER A/T 2 TIRES ON A 2001 GMC SIERRA. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 25-55 MPH THE VEHICLE STARTED DRIFTING TO THE LEFT. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION HE NOTICED THAT THE TREAD ON THE TIRES WERE SEPARATING. HE HAD THREE SETS OF TIRES REPLACED. HOWEVER THE MANUFACTURER WILL NOT ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE FOURTH SET. A REPRESENTATIVE CONCLUDED THAT THE TIRES ARE SEPARATING BECAUSE OF STONE DRILLING ON THE ROADS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 115,000. UPDATED 10/27/09 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED HE REPLACED THREE OF THE TIRES. THE FOURTH TIRE IS SPLITTING IN THE CENTER WITH WIRES COMING THROUGH THE CENTER OF THE TIRE. UPDATED 10/29/09
I USE MY TRUCK TO PULL A 5TH WHEEL CAMPER. WHEN I STARTED TO CHECK IT OUT THIS YEAR, I NOTICED A FUNNY SHIFT PATTERN AND A GROWL WITH TEMPORARY BRAKE LOSS AT APPROX. 4 MI. PRE HR OR LESS. I TOOK THE TRUCK IN FOR REPAIR AND THEY SENT ME TO A GM DEALER TO HAVE THE TCM REFLASHED. THAT FIXED THE SHIFT HARSHNESS. AFTER LEAVING DEALERSHIP I NOTICED THE GROWLING AGAIN. IT IS NOT EVERY TIME I APPLY THE BRAKES, BUT I AM AFRAID THAT I WILL END UP LOOSING THE BRAKES LONG ENOUGH TO HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE. AFTER DOING EXTENSIVE INTERNET STUDIES I FOUND THAT THIS VEHICLE SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN A RECALL THAT IS FOR THE EXACT SAME SYMPTOMS. I CALLED 2 DEALERSHIPS BUT WAS TOLD THAT MY VIN WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WERE RECALLED BECAUSE OF DEFECTIVE PARTS USED ONLY ON SPECIFIC VIN NUMBERED VEHICLES. I ASKED THAT IF THIS IS TRUE THEN WHY IS MY PART FAILING IN THE EXACT SAME MANNER IF IT IS NOT DEFECTIVE. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE TECH. THAT THIS WAS A GOOD QUESTION AND HE WOULD CALL GM TO SEE IF MY TRUCK QUALIFIED. APPARENTLY NOT OR I WOULDN'T BE FILING THIS. MY RESEARCH ALSO SHOWED ANOTHER COMPLAINT EXACTLY THE SAME AS MINE ON THIS SITE (NOVEMBER 10, 2006 ODI ID NUMBER : 10173313). PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT TO DO FROM HERE. *TR
THE FUEL GAUGE BEGAN JUMPING FROM FULL TO EMPTY REGARLESS OF THE ACTUAL AMOUNT OF FUEL IN THE TANK. I TOOK GM'S RECOMMENDATION TO PUT THEIR FUEL SYSTEM CLEANER INTO THE GAS TANK TO CLEAN THE CONTACTS ON THE FUEL SENDING UNIT. APPROXIMATELY 6 MONTHS LATER, THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER PLUGGED TO THE POINT THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RUN AND IT HAD TO BE REPLACED. NOW TOLD THAT ONLY WAY TO FIX THE FUEL GAUGE IS TO PULL THE GAS TANK AND REPLACE THE SENDING UNIT. SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR THIS FAULTY SENDING UNIT AND THE "QUICK FIX" THAT MANY PEOPLE PROBABLY TRY. APPROXIMATELY $400 TO FIX SENDING UNIT BECAUSE IT'S BUILT INTO THE GAS TANK, AND APPROXIMATELY $1000 TO REPLACE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC SIERRA 2500 HD. WHILE DRIVING LESS THAN 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED BETWEEN 20-30 MPH. THE VEHICLE PROCEEDED TO JERK VIOLENTLY AND PERFORM AS IF IT WANTED TO STALL. THE DEALER STATED THAT ALL EIGHT FUEL INJECTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT THE ESTIMATED COST OF $350 PER FUEL INJECTOR. THIS DID NOT INCLUDE THE LABOR COST. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 06E043000. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED WITH THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE STALLING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, WHICH COULD POTENTIALLY LEAD TO A CRASH. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE LESS THAN 172,000.
IT STARTED WITH THE FUEL GAUGE FLUCTUATING BETWEEN FULL AND EMPTY WITH A FULL TANK OF GAS AND THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT ON DASH LIGHTING UP FOR APPARENTLY NO REASON. THEN IT STARTED GIVING ME TROUBLE STARTING AND MAKING A WEIRD WHINING NOISE. I CHECKED ALL THE FLUID LEVELS AND FUSES, EVERYTHING WAS OK. I WAS AT THE CAMP(MIDDLE OF NOWHERE) AT NIGHT WHEN I NOTICED THAT THERE WERE SPARKS COMING FROM AROUND THE AREA OF THE STARTER WHEN MY HUSBAND TRIED TO START IT.(IT JUST HAPPENED TO BE DARK AND I WAS SITTING WITH A VIEW OF THE RIGHT WHEEL WELL) I CHECKED THE WIRES AND FOUND WHAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN A BREAK IN THE INSULATION, TAPED IT AND THE SPARKS QUIT. HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO DRIVE IT HOME THE NEXT DAY AS THERE WAS NO PHONE SERVICE. STARTED RIGHT UP , AND DROVE FINE, EXCEPT FOR THE LOW WHINNY NOISE THAT NO ONE COULD PINPOINT. I WAS ALMOST HOME WHEN THE TRANSMISSION STARTED TO SLIP. I BROUGHT IT TO OUR MECHANIC WHO REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION BUT NONE OF US CAN FIGURE OUT WHAT THE DEVIL IS CAUSING THE ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. BEFORE THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT THE TOW/ HAUL BUTTON DIDN'T DO ANY THING, NOW THE LIGHT ACTUALLY COMES ON-WHEN IT FEELS LIKE IT,BUT I CAN'T GET IT TO GO OFF. THE MECHANIC ALSO EXPRESSED THAT THE CONSTANT MALFUNCTION WAS A COMMON ISSUE WITH HIS VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000.
I JUST WANT TO LET YOU KNOW ABOUT A LITTLE PROBLEM I'M HAVING WITH MY 2001 GMC 4X4 TRUCK. I WAS DRIVING MY 2001 GMC 2500 HD TRUCK DOWN THE ROAD TO LOCK IN THE 4WD DUE TO A HEAVY SNOW STORM IN THE NORTH EAST. I FIND THIS TO BE A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE FOR A TRUCK WITH ONLY 97000 MILES ON IT. I WOULD HOPE GM WOULD STEP UP AND COVER ALL COST FOR THIS REPAIR. *TR

THE MECHANIC INFORMED HIM THAT THE BACKING PLATES OFTEN DISINTEGRATED. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT IT WAS MADE OUT OF AN INFERIOR METAL AND SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED AT SUCH A RATE. I FULLY SUGGEST THAT YOU DO AN INVESTIGATION ON GMC/CHEVY PICK-UP TRUCKS. I, ALONG WITH THOUSANDS OF OTHERS ARE EXPERIENCING FUEL GAUGE PROBLEMS. THE FUEL GAUGES ARE GOING OUT VERY QUICKLY. THEY CONSTANTLY SHOW THAT YOU EITHER HAVE A FULL OR AN EMPTY TANK WHEN NEITHER MAY BE THE CASE. YOU NEVER KNOW HOW MUCH GAS IS IN THE TANK. IT ALSO MAKES THE LOW FUEL LIGHT STAY ON CONSTANTLY. THERE IS CURRENTLY NO RECALL ON THIS. I FIND THIS HARD TO BELIEVE CONSIDERING THE HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF THESE VEHICLES ON THE ROAD. THERE HAVE BEEN RECALLS ON FAR LESS SERIOUS ISSUES THAN THIS. THE QUOTES FROM GMC TO CORRECT IT IS UP TO $500. THIS MATTER NEEDS URGENT ATTENTION. *TR
I BOUGHT A GMC SIERRA C-1500 PICKUP TRUCK, NEW IN 2001. IN SEPT '05, THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON & A HUMMING NOISE COULD BE HEARD EVEN AFTER THE IGNITION WAS TURNED OFF. THE ODOMETER WAS AT 50,000 MILES, AT THAT TIME. THE PROBLEM WAS THE EBCM SHORTED-OUT AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. NOW, 31,000 MILES & 3 YEARS LATER (81,000 TOTAL MILES), IT SHORTED-OUT AGAIN & NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE COST OF THIS PART ALONE IS $1,000.00 (+ OVER $200.00 INSTALLATION). THAT PART ISN'T EVEN SUBJECTED TO NORMAL 'WEAR & TEAR' LIKE BRAKES, BECAUSE IT'S NOT A MOVING PART. IT'S A COMPUTER MODULE THAT CONTROLS THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES, THAT IS VITAL IN CASE OF EMERGENCY BRAKING, WHICH LUCKILY I HAVEN'T NEEDED TO USE. I DON'T KNOW IF THE EBCM (PART) IS DEFECTIVE ITSELF OR IF SOMETHING ELSE IS CAUSING IT TO SHORT OUT, BUT I DON'T THINK THIS PART SHOULD FAIL, THIS OFTEN. REQUIRING A THIRD EBCM IN 7 YEARS, IN MY OPINION, IS UNACCEPTABLE. I'VE CONTACTED GMC & I DON'T THINK I RECEIVED A LEGITIMATE REASON FOR THE FAILURE OF THE PART'JUST A POOR EXCUSE. HIS REASONING WAS THAT MY VEHICLE IS 7 YEARS OLD & HAS 81,000 MILES, THAT IT'S ACCEPTABLE FOR A COMPUTER MODULE, WHICH CONTROLS THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES (A SAFETY ISSUE), TO MALFUNCTION & NEED REPLACING TWICE.
