WHILE REPLACING THE FUEL INJECTORS UNDER A SPECIAL INJECTOR WARRANTY, THE DEALERSHIP BROKE A GLOWPLUG OFF AND CALLED TO SAY I NEED TO REPLACE THE CYLINDER HEAD AT MY COST. CALL GMC CUSTOMER SUPPORT WHO SAY DUE TO THE AGE AND MILEAGE 2001, 124500. THAT THE CORROSION OF THE GLOWPLUG AND THE FACT IT SEIZED IN THE CYLINDER HEAD IS NOT THERE PROBLEM, EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE THE ONE WHO DESIGNED THE ENGINE. THEY SAID THAT IT'S AT MY COST FOR A NEW CYLINDER HEAD WHICH WAS QUOTED TO ME OVER THE PHONE AT A PRICE OF $1,800.00. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CABLE STOP HAS FALLEN OFF THE EMERGENCY BRAKE RELEASE CABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE HAS BEEN DRIVING WITHOUT AN EMERGENCY BRAKE EVER SINCE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THIS FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,000. UPDATED 06/03/10*BF THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE ABS ACTIVATED WHEN IT SHOULDN'T HAVE. GMC 2001 SIERRA C3 PARKING BRAKE NO LONGER FUNCTIONS AS IT SHOULD. THIS IS A SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE AS THE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR AND THERE IS NO WAY TO ADJUST IT (FROM WHAT I CAN TELL). A PREVIOUS CAMPAIGN 05V161000 ALLUDED TO THIS ISSUE BUT ONLY FOR MANUAL TRANSMISSION TRUCKS. THIS IS NOT LOGICAL AS THE MECHANISM IS THE SAME. *TR
ON OUR SIERRA GMC 01 THE ABS BRAKE LIGHT HAS BEEN TURNING ON FOR 2 MONTHS AND HAVE HAD NO USAGE OF OUR EMERGENCY BRAKE, WE FIGURED IT HAD TO DO WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKES SO WE REPLACED THE EMERGENCY BRAKES AND THE REAR BRAKES WHICH WE PURCHASED THE BRAKE SHOES FOR $74.94,BRAKE PADS $33.97,BRAKE ROTOR$61.98,TWO PNT CALIPER BLK $6.44 EACH AND THE TOTAL COST OF PURCHASING THIS WAS $199.91 AND TO DO THE REPAIRS WE HAD A FAMILY MECHANIC FIX WHAT WE BELIEVED COULD BE THE PROBLEM. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC SIERRA 2500. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, THE VEHICLE SHUTS OFF AND RESTARTS AFTER A FEW MINUTES. THE DIAGNOSTIC INDICATED THAT THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 64,200 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,000. UPDATED 01-10-08. *KB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC SIERRA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE ENGINE STALLED. ALL OF THE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY RESTARTED WITHOUT ASSISTANCE AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO OPERATE NORMALLY. THE SERVICE ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR REMAINED LIT UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. THROUGH RESEARCH, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V521000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL, ALTHOUGH THE FAILURES WERE IDENTICAL. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
FRONT RIGHT ABS WHEEL SENSOR FAILED 2001 SIERRA TRUCK CAUSING SUDDEN AND UNEXPECTED PULLING TO THE RIGHT AS THE ABS SYSTEM ENGAGED AT LOW SPEED. TRUCK IS SUBJECT TO A GMC REGIONAL RECALL (RECALL ID# 58438 ) BUT GMC HAS REFUSED TO FIX PROBLEM STATING THE TRUCK WAS NOT IN THE RECALL DATABASE. TRUCK WAS SHIPPED BY DEALER TO MASS IN 2002 WHERE IT WAS REGISTERED UNTIL SEPTEMBER 2005. *TR
COMPLETE ENGINE STOPPAGE AT VARIOUS SPEEDS INCLUDING STOPLIGHTS AND SIGNS, SOMETIMES REFUSING TO START AFTER BEING PARKED FOR SOME TIME. SHOP REPLACED FUEL PUMP. COST $734.27, 4 MONTHS LATER SHOP REPLACED CRANK SHAFT SENSOR COST $296.89. I HAVEN'T HAD PICKUP RETURNED LONG ENOUGH TO KNOW IF PROBLEM IS FIXED. MOST TIMES MOTOR WOULD START AFTER 15 TO 60 SEC. PROBLEM STARTED 12+ MONTHS AGO WITH MOTOR FAILURE INCREASING FROM MONTHS TO DAYS TO HOURS. COMPANION REFUSED TO RIDE WITH ME FOR FEAR OF AN ACCIDENT CAUSING INJURY OR DEATH. THE FIRESTONE TIRES FURNISHED AT TIME OF PURCHASE, ALL 5 DEVELOPED TREAD SEPARATION WITHIN 33000 MILES. THEY SHOULD HAVE LASTED AT LEAST 55,000 TO 60,000 MILES. *TR
WHILE DRIVING I TILTED MY STEERING WHEEL AND THE HEADLIGHTS STOPPED WORKING. I FOUND THAT AS I MOVED THE WHEEL UP AND DOWN THERE WAS A SPOT AT WHICH THE LIGHTS WOULD STOP WORKING. AFTER GOING TO THE DEALERSHIP I THEY FOUND THAT A WIRE IN THE JUNCTION BLOCK OF THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH (BLINKER ASSEMBLY) HAD SHORTED OUT CAUSING THE LIGHTS TO GO OUT. DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM PULSATES BETWEEN 1-5 MPH WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL; HOWEVER, HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. AT ANOTHER REPAIR SHOP, THE CONTACT WAS CHARGED FOR A DIAGNOSTIC AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO A DEFECTIVE ANTILOCK BRAKE SENSOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE MECHANIC AND THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS FAILURE WITH THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR ON THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE DUE TO CORROSION. THE RECALL NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 27,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 33,000. UPDATED 09/13/08. *LJ AT SPEEDS BELOW 10 MPH, THE ABS ACTIVATED, NOT ALLOWING THE VEHICLE TO STOP AT THE PROPER DISTANCE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC SIERRA 2500 HD. THE VEHICLE HAS COOPER TIRES, SIZE LT26575-16. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE AND PIECES OF THE INNER BELT OF THE TIRE BEGAN TO SEPARATE. THE FENDER FLARE AND THE MUD FLAP ALSO DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. A SPARE TIRE WAS PLACED ON THE VEHICLE AND IT WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 101,476.
THE WHEELS MALFUNCTION ENDING UP HITTING A COVERT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC SIERRA. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT. THE TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE SIDEWALL. THE TIRES ARE THE VEHICLE'S ORIGINAL TIRES. THE PURCHASE DATE AND TIRE INFORMATION WERE UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 32,960 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,910.
HAD A RECALL ON MY 2001 GMC SIERRA 1500 SERIES PICK UP TRUCK FOR FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR. AFTER THEY REPLACED IT MY ANTI LOCK BRAKES STARTED ENGAGING AT SPEEDS BELOW 5 MI/HR. NOT ALWAYS BUT FREQUENTLY. ESPECIALLY IN BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC OR COMING TO A SLOW STOP. *TR
MY 2001 DODGE 1500 PICK UP TRUCK DASH BOARD CRACKED AND CAME APART. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING AT APPROX. 50MPH WITH TWO PASSENGERS, WEATHER CLEAR, WHEN WE SMELLED A HINT OF BURNING PLASTIC. CONTINUED TRAVELING AND AFTER 2 OR SO MILES THE TRUCK SLOWED AND ACTED AS THOUGH IT WAS RUNNING OUT OF FUEL. PULLED TO SIDE PASSENGER IN BACK SEAT NOTICED THE TRUCK WAS ON FIRE BETWEEN THE BED AND CAB UNDERNEATH. WITNESS WHO WAS BEHIND IN ANOTHER VEHICLE STATED THAT SPARKS WERE FLYING FROM THE TRUCK WHILE GOING DOWN THE ROAD PREVIOUS TO MY PULLING OVER. THE FIRE WAS LEANING TOWARD THE DRIVERS SIDE SO AFTER A TRYING TIME OF WAITING FOR THE FRONT SEAT PASSENGER TO FIND THE LOCK, WE ESCAPED THROUGH THE PASS DOOR UNHURT. A FIRE EXTINGUISHER PROVED TO BE NO HELP AS THE TRUCK WAS SOON ENGULFED IN FLAMES. MY TRUCK HAD 75,000 MILES ON IT, HAD NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND WAS DEALER MAINTAINED. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. I CALLED GM WHO RESPONDED QUICKLY AND STATED THEY WOULD SEND AN INVESTIGATION TEAM OUT. AFTER COMMUNICATION BETWEEN GM AND MY INSURANCE CO, GM STATED THEY WERE GOING TO WORK WITH THE INSURANCE AND CLOSE THE CASE WITHOUT LOOKING AT THE VEHICLE. I FEEL SOMEBODY SHOULD INSPECT THIS TRUCK AS WE COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN KILLED OUT THERE AND TRUCKS SHOULD NOT SPONTANEOUSLY GO UP IN FLAMES! WOULD BE A SHAME TO SETTLE FOR INSURANCE MONEY AND HAVE THE EVIDENCE CRUSHED WHILE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE ARE DRIVING THE SAME TRUCK. MY TRUCK IS DESTROYED BUT PERHAPS LIVES WILL BE SAVED IF THIS SITUATION IS LOOKED INTO.
I HAVE A 01 GMC SIERRA (LIGHT DUTY) THAT HAS THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE ABS BREAKING SYSTEM AS THE TRUCKS IN RECALL IN THE NORTH EASTERN STATES. MY PROBLEM IS I BOUGHT THE TRUCK IN FLORIDA...MOVED TO DELAWARE AND HAVE LIVED HERE THE PAST TEN MONTHS..TRUCK IS STILL REGISTERED IN FLORIDA...AND GMC WON'T REPLACE THE RECALL ABS SENSORS BECAUSE I PURCHASED THE TRUCK IN FLORIDA AND ITS HAS A VIN NUMBER SHOWING ORIGINATION IN FLORIDA...HOW RIDICULOUS IS THIS???????? IS THIS LEGAL TO DENY ME A RECALL....WHEN I CAN PROVE I HAVE A PERMANENT RESIDENCE IN DELAWARE???? *JB
FUEL GAUGE HAS BEEN MALFUNCTIONING FOR SEVERAL MONTHS NOW - SOMETIMES WORKS PROPERLY, BUT OTHER TIMES READS EMPTY WHEN TANK IS FULL, READS MORE FUEL THAN IN TANK, ETC. I HAVE SEVERAL FRIENDS WHO HAVE THIS GENERATION OF GM FULL-SIZE TRUCK (GMC SIERRA, CHEVY SILVERADO, GMC YUKON, CHEVY TAHOE - GMT800 SERIES), AND MOST OF THEM HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. I AM TOLD THAT THE ISSUE IS WITH THE FUEL SENDING UNIT. *JB
PREMATURE BRAKE FAILURE DUE TO ROTORS RUSTING, REAR ROTORS RUSTED AND WORE PADS OUT FRONT BRAKE PADS WORN OUT ON INSIDE ONLY, PARKING BRAKE WORN OUT ON DRIVERS SIDE INOPERABLE ON PASSENGER SIDE. ALL PADS AND ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, ROTORS TOO DELAMINATED TO TURN, PARKING BRAKE PADS REPLACED TOO. ALL PARTS AVAILABLE. 800 DOLLARS TO REPAIR. *JB
DASH BOARD CRACKING AN DODGE RAM TRUCK
DRIVING DOWN ROAD HEARD NOISE COMING FROM UNDER DRIVER'S SIDE OF PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. NOISE WAS COMING FROM ABS UNIT WOULD NOT STOP EVEN WHEN IGNITION SWITCHED OFF. CAN ONLY STOP BY UNPLUGGING ABS UNIT ABS BRAKES DON'T WORK. BAD ON ICY ROADS. *TR
SLOW SPEED UNINTENTIONAL ACTIVATION OF THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE HAVING AN INSPECTION PERFORMED, IT WAS DETERMINED THE PARKING BRAKE WAS INOPERABLE. THERE WAS A NHTSA RECALL, # 05V161000, REGARDING THE PARKING BRAKE. THE RECALL WAS FOR VEHICLES WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION AND VIN.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES FAILED TO FUNCTION PROPERLY. THE ABS SYSTEM WOULD ENGAGE WHILE TRAVELING 4 MPH, CAUSING A LOSS OF BRAKES FOR A FEW SECONDS BEFORE RETURNING TO NORMAL. THE SERVICE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED AND BOTH INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA RECALL #05V379000 FOR THE SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTILOCK DUE TO THE VIN.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED A RECALL LETTER WAS RECEIVED PERTAINING TO THE ABS BRAKES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR THE RECALL WORK. AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE MADE, THE DEALER DETERMINED THAT ADDITIONAL WORK NEEDED TO BE PERFORMED TO THE BRAKES, BUT WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. THE REPAIRS WERE NEVER MADE AND THE ABS BRAKES STILL PRESENTED PERMANENT AND REPEATABLE PROBLEMS.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHEN THE GEARS WERE SHIFTED INTO DRIVE; THE PARKING BRAKE WOULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE FROM ROLLING FORWARD. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE STANDING ON THE TAILGATE, THE TAILGATE CABLES FRACTURED WITHOUT WARNING. NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO DETERMINED BOTH TAILGATE CABLES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE WOULD FLUCTUATE FREQUENTLY AND REGISTER IT AS FULL AND THEN EMPTY. GMC STATED THAT THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 06E043000. THE ONLY NEW EQUIPMENT ON THE VEHICLE WERE THE WHEELS, TIRES, AND WATER PUMP. EVERYTHING ELSE WAS THE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER ON ONE OCCASION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 158,000. UPDATED 8/10/09 *CN
INJECTOR FAILURES ON 2001 GMC DURAMAX 6.6 DIESEL ENGINE. INJECTORS FAILED AND REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY AT 167,000 MILES, FAILED AGAIN AT 197,000 MILES AND REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. G M CUSTOMER SERVICE SAID THEY WOULD REPLACE THEM UNDER WARRANTY IF THEY FAILED AGAIN IN SUCH A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. INJECTORS FAILED AT 234,000 MILES AND GM CUSTOMER SERVICE RENIGGED ON THEIR WORD. MANY OTHERS HAVE HAD FAILURES IN 30,000 TO 40,000 MILES. THEY ARE REPLACING PARTS WITH REMANUFACTURED PARTS AND THEY ARE NOT LASTING. GM DEALERS ARE CHARGING $3600.00 TO $4,500.00 TO REPLACE THESE INJECTORS OUT OF WARRANTY. IT IS PLAIN THAT THEY KNOW THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE INJECTORS WHEN THEY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON INJECTORS FROM 100,000 TO 200,000 MILES OR SEVEN YEARS. THEY GET AWAY WITH THIS BECAUSE MOST PEOPLE DO NOT DRIVE THEIR VEHICLES THAT MUCH IN SEVEN YEARS. ALL I WANTED WAS A FAIR DEAL AND DID NOT GET IT. *NM

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC SIERRA 1500. AT LOW SPEEDS HE EXPERIENCED UNWANTED ANTI-LOCK BRAKE (ABS) ACTIVATION. A MECHANIC REPLACED THE FRONT AND REAR BRAKES. THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT RECALL # 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTI-LOCK) FREE REMEDY WAS NOT RELATED TO HIS VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 140,000 .
GASOLINE SENSOR OR COMPUTER INDICATOR SHOWS LOW FUEL AND GAS GAUGE SHOWS NO FUEL WHEN ENGINE COLD AND WEATHER IS COOL OR COLD OUTSIDE, REGARDLESS OF THE QUANTITY OF GAS IN THE TRUCKS TANK (FULL, 1/2, 3/4, ETC). THIS JUST RECENTLY HAPPENED AND ALSO FOUR TO SIX TIMES LAST WINTER. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THERE WAS A LOSS OF THE POWER STEERING WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT MANAGED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. UPON INITIAL INSPECTION, IT WAS DETERMINED THE POWER ASSIST STEERING SHAFT WAS FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER THE INITIAL REPLACEMENT, THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP, WHO DETERMINED THE POWER ASSIST STEERING SHAFT WAS FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED. UPDATED 12/29/2006 - *NM
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC SIERRA 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR FAILED AND WAS REPLACED. SIX YEARS LATER, THE CONTACT LOCATED A RECALL FOR THE FAILURE UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07V521000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED BUT INFORMED HIM THAT HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND HE COULD NOT BE REIMBURSED FOR THE REPAIRS. THE CONTACT CONFIRMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,358 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 82,000. PARKING BRAKE FAILS TO HOLD VEHICLE FROM ROLLING. DEALER STATED PARKING BRAKE PADS WERE WORN AND DAMAGED REAR ROTORS OF DISK BRAKE SYSTEM. HE STATED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM BUT NOT FOR MY VEHICLES VIN. *JB

2001 GMC SIERRA CREW CAB TRUCK WAS PURCHASED PRE-OWNED IN JULY 2004. VEHICLE AT PURCHASE HAD THE FRONT BRAKES REPLACED. MILEAGE WAS 28,410. IN JANUARY 2006 WITH 35,904 MILES FRONT AND REAR BRAKE ROTORS WITH PADS WERE REPLACED DUE TO "RUSTED BRAKE ROTORS". IN AUGUST 2006, REAR BRAKE BACKING PLATES WERE FOUND TO BE ROTTED AWAY AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. MILEAGE AT TIME WAS 39,846. VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT ALL TIMES BY THE DEALER THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED THROUGH. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE VEHICLE TRAVELS BELOW 10 MPH THE VEHICLE GOES INTO ABS MODE AND THE BRAKES DON'T WORK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERS TWICE FOR THE SAME REPLACEMENT PERTAINING TO THE ABS SENSING UNIT AND THE FRONT HUB RECALL. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY PRESENTING THE SAME PROBLEMS. HAD VEHICLE SERVICED AT 47,000 MILES AND WAS INFORMED I HAD TOTAL BRAKE ROTOR FAILURE. I WAS INSTRUCTED BY (GM FILE#1-420413913) TO HAVE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED BY A GM DEALERSHIP AND I DID. THERE FINDINGS WERE NOTHING COULD BE DONE BY GM IN ASSISTING ME WITH A COMPLETE SET OF BRAKES & ROTORS DUE TO PREMATURE RUST. *NM
I WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH WHERE I THINK THE BRAKES ON MY 2001 GMC SIERRA FAILED TO STOP MY VEHICLE IN TIME. I REAR-ENDED A PICKUP TRUCK, WHICH HIT A TOYOTA, WHICH THEN HIT A JEEP. I KNOW THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL ON ABS FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSORS, YET MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. NHTSA SHOULD FORCE GM TO RECALL ALL TRUCKS, REGARDELESS OF LOCATION, AND HAVE THE ABS SYSTEM PROPERLY FIXED (NOT JUST CLEAN THE SENSORS!!). *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 GMC SIERRA 2500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ANTILOCK BRAKES ARE ENGAGING PREMATURELY. THE VEHICLE MAKES A NOISE WHEN THE ANTILOCK BRAKES ARE USED OR ALTERED. THE DEALER STATED THAT HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY OPEN RECALLS. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 71,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HWY. TOWING MY 28 FT 5TH WHEEL TRAILER ON LEVEL GROUND WE EXPERIENCED A LOUD BANG AND THE FEELING LIKE SOMETHING IN THE DRIVELINE HAD BROKEN. NO ENGINE MALFUNCTION INDICATORS WERE DISPLAYED ON THE CONSOLE. NO FURTHER INCIDENTS HAVE HAPPENED YET, BUT IT IS CONSTANTLY ON MY MIND. *JB

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED A NOISE WAS HEARD, UPON INSPECTION THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THE VACUUM PLATES OF THE REAR BRAKES WERE RUSTED THROUGH. THE BRAKING ABILITY HAS BEEN AFFECTED BY THIS PROBLEM. THE DEALER HAS BEEN ALERTED.
GAS FUEL GAUGE-: GAUGE REGISTERS EMPTY WHEN TANK IS FULL. REFUEL LIGHT COMES ON & STAYS ON. GAUGE BOUNCES BACK & FORTH & IS HARD TO TELL HOW MUCH FUEL IS ACTUALLY IN THE TANK. HAVE TO WATCH ODOMETER TO FIGURE OUT WHEN TO FILL TANK UP WITH GAS. ON -GOING PROBLEM!!!!! *NM
WHILE TRAVELING WEST ON I-10, IN JEFFERSON COUNTY, I FELT A VIBRATION AND WAS SLOWING DOWN WHEN THE LEFT REAR TIRE FAILED. MY VEHICLE SWERVED AND I PULLED OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE RUBBER ON THE TIRE SEPARATED AND EXPOSED THE INFLATED TIRE. THE TIRE MAINTAINED ITS AIR PRESSURE AND SOME OF THE STEEL BELT WAS VISIBLE BUT THE TREAD WAS MISSING. THE VEHICLE TRAVELING BEHIND ME, APPARENTLY, OVER STEERED IN AN EFFORT TO AVOID MY DISCARDED RUBBER AND DROVE OFF THE ROADWAY. EMERGENCY PERSONNEL ASSISTED THIS DRIVER. THE DISCARDED RUBBER DAMAGED THE REAR BUMPER AND TAILGATE OF MY VEHICLE. THE TIRE WAS SENT TO FIRESTONE'S COMPLAINT DEPARTMENT AT BFNT LLC ( REF # 917284) AND THEY EVALUATED IT. THEY ARE NOT CLAIMING THE TIRE WAS DEFECTIVE. MY VEHICLE IS NOT USED OFF ROAD AND THE MODEL NUMBER IS LT245/75R16, STEELTEX RADIAL R4S II. *NM
WHEEL SPEED SENSOR FAILURE, WHY IS THERE A RECALL ONLY FOR THE NORTHEAST FOR WHEEL SPEED SENSORS IN CORROSIVE ENVIRONMENTS? I LIVE IN SALT LAKE CITY UTAH, ALL OF THE ROADS IN UTAH ARE KEPT THAWED WITH SALT ALL WINTER LONG. YET THE RECALL IS ONLY FOR THE "SALT BELT STATES". *NM
