I HAVE A 2001 GMC PICKUP. THE RIGHT REAR BRAKE ASSEMBLY HAS FAILED TWICE. JUNE 2003 AND AGAIN THIS MONTH. BOTH TIMES REQUIRING A $650 FIX. SOMETHING ABOUT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE/DISC BRAKE SYSTEM BUT THE DEALER WAS VAGUE.
DISC ROTOR DELAMINATION, ANTI-LOCK CONTROL. I WAS PULLING A 3/4 TON VAN STUCK IN HIS YARD, AS I GOT HIM CLOSE TO THE HARD SURFACE ( DRIVEWAY) I PUT ON THE BRAKES AND THE TRUCK WOULDN'T STOP, IT HIT THE CORNER OF HIS BLOCK HOUSE. NO DAMAGE TO THE HOUSE HOWEVER I HAD TO REPLACE ALL BUT HOOD AND ONE HEADLIGHT ASSY. 10 MPH AND NEITHER BAG DEPLOYED. I THOUGHT IT WAS MY OWN STUPIDITY UNTIL READING ALL THE ISSUES ON HERE W/ GM'S BRAKING PROBLEMS. I FEEL A BIT BETTER ABOUT MYSELF. THE BIG ISSUE !! ALL FOUR ROTORS DELAMINATED W/ 46,000 MILES THIS IS THE 1ST NEW TRUCK I'VE OWNED AND BELIEVE ME IT'S BEEN BABIED FOR SURE. I WAS TOLD BY MY SERVICE DEALER THERE WAS NOTHING GM WOULD DO ABOUT THIS PROBLEM IT WAS MY PROBLEM FOR NOT DRIVING IT AS MUCH AS I SHOULD (B.S.) DEALER WANTED TO CHARGE ME A GRAND TO REPLACE ALL THE ROTORS AND PADS I DID IT FOR 500.00 AND STILL HAVE THE OLD PARTS. I'M SURE GM SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS, IT IS A DEFINITE SAFETY ISSUE DID I FAIL TO MENTION THE MUFFLER HAD A RATTLE IN IT AND WAS REPLACED WITHIN THE 1ST 1000 MILES, THE THUMP IN THE STEERING COLUMN THAT HAS NO WAY TO BE LUBRICATED. MAN I AM DISAPPOINTED IN GM PRODUCTS. *JB
I AM COMPLAINING AND ASKING FOR FURTHER INVESTIGATION INTO ABS BRAKE ACTIVATIONS ON MY 2001 GMC 1500 SIERRA. I READ AN ARTICLE THAT MANY FAILURES WERE OCCURRING AND THAT THIS WAS BEING INVESTIGATED. GM HAS RECALLED VEHICLES IN CANADA ALONG THE "RUST BELT" I HEARD. I LIVE IN MICHIGAN AND GO THROUGH SIMILAR WEATHER ISSUES AS CANADA AND FEEL THAT THE BRAKE PROBLEMS ARE ALSO THE SAME AS THE CANADIAN ISSUES. MY ABS BRAKES WILL ACTIVATE ALMOST DAILY AND MY VEHICLE IS JUST OUTSIDE OF THE WARRANTY. I WOULD ENCOURAGE FURTHER INVESTIGATION INTO THIS ISSUE AS CLEARLY THE SAME THING THAT HAS OCCURRED IN CANADA IS ALSO OCCURRING HERE AS WELL. WITH THE ADDED STOPPING DISTANCE AS A RESULT OF THE ABS/BRAKE FAILURES, I DO NOT WANT TO SEE A SENSELESS ACCIDENT OCCUR WHICH COULD CAUSE DAMAGE, INJURY OR GOD FORBID ANY DEATHS. DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE PULLING AWAY FROM A STOP LIGHT AT 10MPH THE ABS ACTIVATED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. UPON INSPECTION THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE ACTIVATION. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL, # 05V379000 REGARDING THE ABS. THE VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL; HOWEVER IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN.
DT:THE CONSUMER STAED THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH BRAKING AT LOW SPEEDS.. THE SERVICE DEALER REPLACED THE ABS SENSORS DUE TO CORROSION. THIS DID REMEDY THE PROBLEM WITH THE ABS.*AK
DT: 2001 GMC SERRIA. THERE WAS A RECALL IN CANADA, BUT THERE WAS NO RECALL IN THE STATES ON THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES. WHEN TRAVELING AT SLOW SPEED AND APPLYING THE BRAKES THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES TAKE OVER, RESULTING IN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. THIS DID NOT HAPPEN EVERY TIME, MAY BE ONE OUT OF EVERY FIVE STOPS, BUT IT SEEMED TO BE GET WORSE. CALLED THE MANUFACTURER, AND THEY SAID THE RECALL WAS NOT FOR THIS TRUCK BUT ONLY FOR THE ONES PRODUCED IN CANADA. THIS APPEARED TO BE SOMETHING THAT WAS CAUSED FROM THE ROAD SALT WHICH CORRODED THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM. THIS STARTED HAPPENING JUST A FEW MONTHS AGO, AND HAPPENED AT LEAST 50 TIMES. *AK
PASSENGER WINDOW WOULD NOT GO UP WHEN BUTTON TO RAISE IT WAS PUSHED. WINDOW WOULD GO UP AND DOWN WHEN MOVER BY GRABBING THE GLASS. TOOK IT TO DEALER WHO TOOK APART THE DOOR THEN SAID THE REGULATOR WAS BROKEN. A WIRE CABLE IN THE MECHANISM WAS BROKEN, BUT THE WIRE BY ITSELF WAS NOT AVAILABLE. NOT COVERED BY WARRATY, AS THIS WAS A "WEAR " ITEM. MILEAGE ON TRUCK 24000 COST $717.00
I DONT REALLY KNOW WHAT LEAD UP TO THE FAILURE BUT THE PASS LOCK ANTI THEFT SYSTEM ON THE GM PRODUCTS REALLY NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO. THIS PROBLEM CAN CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO SHUT DOWN AT ANY GIVEN MOMENT OR NOT START AT ALL. 90 % OFF THE VEHICLES THAT HAVE THE PASS LOCK SYSTEM ON THEM HAVE PROBLEMS. GM MECHANICS SAY IT IS THE IGNITION SWITCH OR THIS OR THAT BUT IT ISNT IT IS THE PASSLOCK SYSTEM. AFTER PARTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED IT STILL HAPPENS. I LIVE IN A SMALL RURAL COMMUNITY WITH ALOT OF TRAINS AND I DONT FEEL THAT MY TRUCK SHOULD BE STALLING ON THE RAILROAD TRACKS BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. AFTER LOOKING AROUND ON THE NET TO FIND HELP THERE IS THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM. WHAT HAPPENS IF THE VEHICLE STALLS IN THE WRONG PLACE OR AN EMERGENCY COMES UP AND IT WILL NOT START. SOMEONE COULD GET SERIOUSLY HURT OR EVEN KILLED. I BELEIVE THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE LOOKED INTO. MY VEHICLE ITSELF STALLED FOR 10 MIN IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. I REALLY DONT KNOW WHAT COULD FIX THE PROBLEM EXCEPT THERE IS WAYS TO BYPASS IT. REWIRE YOUR IGNITION SWITCH. THIS COULD CAUSE OTHER PROBLEMS. OR YOU CAN BUY A FIFTY DOLLAR BYPASS MODULE. THEN YOU HAVE TO LIVE WITH THE SECURITY LIGHT ON. YA YOU COULD UNPLUG THE LIGHT IN THE MESSAGE CENTER BUT WHAT ABOUT ALL THE OTHER ALERTS THAT COME UP IN THERE. YOU WOULD LOOSE THEM. I WOULD RATHER HAVE MY SECURITY SYSTEM WORKING PROPERLY SO THAT IF SOMEONE TRYS TO STEAL MY VEHICLE THEY HAVE A HARDER TIME DOING SO & SO MY FAMILY AND I DONT HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT STALLING SOMEWHERE. I WOULD THINK THAT WITH ALL THE COMPLAINTS THAT GM GETS ABOUT THIS THEY WOULD HAVE A BIT OF AN IDEA TO FIX IT. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME
WHILE DRIVING AT A SLOW SPEED AND COMING TO A STOP MY 2001 GMC SIERRA TRUCK'S BRAKE PEDAL PULSATES. I THINK THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM.
DT: AT LOW SPEEDS, THE ABS ACTIVATED ON DRY PAVEMENT. THE CONSUMER WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE WHEN BRAKES FROZE AND VEHICLE STRUCK ANOTHER VEHICLE. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME THE PEDAL FROZE WITH NO BRAKES WHATSOEVER. THE CONSUMER FEELS THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. THE ABS DID COME ON A COUPLE TIME AFTERWARDS AND THE PEDAL ALSO FROZE AGAIN. TOOK CAR TO DEALER BUT HAD NO REPAIRS MADE. *NM

DT: ABS BRAKE SYSTEM IS NOT WORKING CORRECTLY. TRIED TO CALL GM, AND THEY WILL NOT RETURN THE CALLS. THE BRAKE LIGHT ALSO COMES ON. CAR VIBRATES WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES.*AK *SB
DT: WHEN IT IS WET OR SNOWING; AND YOU START TO LEAVE AND GO TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN VEHICLE DOESN'T STOP . THIS ONLY HAPPENS AT FIRST START. *AK
PASSENGER-SIDE WINDOW STOPPED WORKING AND MADE GRINDING NOISE WHEN BUTTON PUSHED TO ROLL DOWN. DISASSEMBLED PASSENGER DOOR TO INVESTIGATE. FOUND ELECTRIC WINDOW MOTOR CABLE BROKEN WITH OBVIOUS SIGNS OF CORROSION (RUST) AT POINT OF FAILURE. ALSO NOTED SUBSTANTIAL CORROSION ON SCREWS HOLDING MOTOR ASSEMBLY IN PLACE.
ABS ACTIVATES JUST BEFORE COMMING TO COMPLETE STOP.(5-8MPH) ABRUPTLY EXTENDING STOPPING DISTANCE. PROBLEM SHOWED UP AFTER TRUCK WAS NOT DRIVEN FOR 4 DAYS. PROBABLY ALLOWING CORROSION TO DEVELOPE. VIRGINIA DID USE LARGE QUANTITIES OF SALT THIS YEAR FOR ICE AND SNOW REMOVAL. CURRENTLY EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. NOT YET CORRECTED. WILL SEE IF REMOVAL, CLEANING AND LUBRICATION OF WHEEL SENSORS WILL SOLVE PROBLEM.
WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES COMING TO A STOP LIGHT THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND GOT HARD. CONSUMER HAD TO PUMPS THE BRAKES TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, AND DEALER INFORMED CONSUMER THAT BOTH FRONT WHEEL ABS SENSORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
A FIRESTONE WILDERNESS A/T TIRE SIZE P265/75R16 SUFFERED A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE WHERE THE TREAD COMPLETELY DELAMINATED AT HIGHWAY SPEED, CAUSING $1,000 BODY DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE.*AK
TRUCK EXHIBITS FAILURE OF BRAKING AT SLOW SPEEDS; PEDAL HARD AND NO BRAKE; HIT BUILDING AT SLOW SPEED MINIMAL DAMGE; TRUCK HAD 38,000 MILES. TOOK TO DEALER;THEY SAID KNEW WHAT WAS WRONG; CHANGED OUT LEFT FRONT HUB AND SPEED SENSOR $405.00. *AK
CONTACT STATES: AT LOW SPEEDS THE ABS LOCKED UP. THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED TO CONSUMER'S OTHER GMC SIERRA . DEALER SAID THAT THE FRONT WHEEL BEARING/HUB ASSEMBLY WAS THE PROBLEM. WHEN THE ABS KICKED IN IT RESULTED IN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. NO PRIOR WARNING TO THE FAILURE. *AK
I OWN A 2001 GMC SIERRA, I WAS DRIVING FROM ONE JOB TO THE OTHER WHEN A PERSON DRIVING NEXT TO ME FLAGGED ME DOWN SAYING THAT I DROPPED MY SPARE TIRE. I STOPPED AND LOOKED UNDER MY TRUCK, I WAS MISSING MY TIRE AND THE CABLE THAT WAS HOLDING THE SPARE TIRE WAS BUSTED. LUCKILY THE INCIDENT HAPPENED AFTER SCHOOL AND SPEED LIMITS WERE AT 20MPH. NO ONE GOT HURT BUT IF THIS WOULD OF HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING IN A CONGESTED HIGH SPEED ROAD THIS COULD OF CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THE SAFTY OF ALL PEOPLE ARE AT RISK OF THIS HAPPENING AS I EXPERIENCED IT MYSELF. A 2001 VEHICLE SHOULD NOT HAVE A PART THAT CAN BUST AND DROP A TIRE ON THE ROAD. I TOOK THIS REPORT TO CHAMPION GMC LOCATED IN CORPUS CHRISTI TEXAS. THE MAN THAT ATTENDED ME MEL DID NOTHING BUT GIVE ME A 200.00 ESTIMATE FOR PARTS AND LABOR REPAIR. I BELIEVE THAT THIS PART SHOULD BE UNDER RECALL BEFORE IT CAUSES A PROBLEM OR DEATH.*AK
ABS LIGHT IS ON AND WHEEL BEARINGS ARE BAD. WHICH I HAVE TO REPLACE THE COMPLETE HUB ASSEMBLY AT A COST OF $375.00 PER SIDE AND THE TRUCK ONLY HAS 31,543 MILES ON IT. THE REPLACEMENT IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN CHANGED TO FIX THE PROBLEM.*AK
I HAVE A 2001 GMC SIERRA 3500. I HAVE THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE PROBLEM DESCRIBED IN NHTSA ID NUMBER 05V37900. THERE IS NO QUESTION THAT THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ENGAGE AT SLOW SPEEDS. I HAVE CALLED GM ABOUT IT, E-MAILED THEM ABOUT IT, STAY IN TOUCH WITH THE DEALER AND EVERYONE SAYS MY VEHICLE IS NOT AFFECTED BY THE RECALL BUT IT IS SHOULD BE FOR SURE. MY FRIENDS WITH 1500'S AND 2500'S HAVE ALL HAD IT REPAIRED BUT I GOT NO NOTICE. EVERY PLACE I CHECK SAYS IT SHOULD BE ON THE RECALL LIST BUT NOT WHEN I USE THE VIN ON THE GM SITE. *JB
CONTACT STATES: CONTACT IS HAVING PROBLEM WITH BRAKES AT SLOW SPEEDS WHEN HE SLOWS DOWN THE ABS KICKS IN AND EXPERIENCES EXTENDS STOPPING DISTANCE. NO PRIOR WARNING. ONLY DOES IT LIKE AT SPEEDS OF 15 MPH AND UNDER. THIS HAS ALMOST CAUSED TWO ACCIDENTS. DEALER ADMITTED THAT ONE OF HIS MECHANICS DID FIX ANOTHER GMC SIERRA FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THE ABS PROBLEM CAUSED THE MECHANIC TO HIT THE DOCK DOOR AT THE DEALER STATION BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. DEALER SAID THAT THEY HAD MORE PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE IN SNOWY WEATHER DUE TO SALT ON THE SENSOR.*AK ON A DAILY BASIS ABS BRAKES PULSATE AND INCREASE CONSUMER'S BREAKING DISTANCE AT SLOW SPEEDS. CONSUMER HAD SEVERAL CLOSE ACCIDENTS WHICH WERE A RESULT OF THE FAILED ABS BRAKES. *SB *NM
WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED A NOISE WOULD BE PRESENT. THE ABS BRAKES WOULD POP BACK AND ACTIVATE WHEN THEY SHOULD NOT. *AK *SC *JB
LOW SPEED ABS ACTIVATION, THE ABS BRAKING SYSTEM ENGAGES AT LOW SPEED AND THE TRUCK WILL NOT STOP WHEN IT IS SUPPOSE TO. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON SEVERAL OCCOSIANS AND HAS RESULTED IN SEVERAL CLOSE CALLS FOR ACCIDENTS. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE BRAKES WILL NOT STOP THE TRUCK LIKE THEY SHOULD BECAUSE ABS ENGAGES. THERE IS ABSOLUTLY NO REASON FOR THE ABS TO BE ENGAGING. HAVE SEEN MULTIPLE REPORTS OF THIS SAME ISSUE ON GM TRUCKS.*AK
DT: WHEN SLOWING DOWN THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES KICK IN AND THE VEHICLE LOOSES BRAKES FOR A SECOND AND PULLS TO THE RIGHT A LITTLE WHEN BRAKE PEDAL DROPS. DEALER WILL CHARGE TO FIX IT AND CALLER HAS NOT HAD THEM FIXED YET AND SAYS HE MIGHT JUST DISCONNECT THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES UNTIL GMC HAS A RECALL. *NM *TT *SB
DRIVER APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THE DRIVER PULLED OVER AND NOTICED THAT THE LEFT FRONT SIDE WHEEL LOCKED UP AND WAS UNABLE TO UNLOCK IT. DRIVER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE LEFT FRONT SIDE BRAKE CALIPER SHEARED OFF AND THAT THE WHEEL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK TWO BOLTS SHEARED OFF THE WHEEL CAUSING THE CALIPER TO COME LOOSE AND GET CAUGHT IN THE WHEEL OPENING TEARING THE BRAKE LINE. *NM
VEHICLE EXPERIENCED SUDDEN STALLING AT VARIOUS LOW SPEEDS. TAKEN TO DEALER FOR TESTING, BUT THE CAUSE WAS UNDETERMINED AT THIS TIME.*AK THE DEALER REPLACED THE CRANK SENSOR. *NM
I HAD A DEER JUMP IN FRONT OF ME AND I HIT THE BRAKES HARD AND MY TRUCK BARELY SLOWED DOWN. I AVOIDED THE ANIMAL.I THEN TORE APART ALL BRAKES AND FOUND THE REAR EXTREMALY RUSTED. I REPLACED ALL PADS, HAD ROTORS RE-SURFACED.REAR ROTORS WERE BARELY SALVIGABLE AFTER SANDBLASTING.TRUCK HAS 30,000 MILES. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.
WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE BRAKES FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. DRIVER TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. *AK CONSUMER TOLD SERVICE WRITER THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL GOES ALMOST TO THE FLOOR WHILE IN PARK WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING. THE TECHNICIAN DUPLICATED THE PROBLEM AND INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THIS WAS NORMAL FOR ABS BRAKES. *BF *NM
ANTI-LOCK BRAKE FAILURE POSSIBLY RELATED TO NHTSA ACTION NUMBER : PE05020. ANTI-LOCK BRAKES ACTIVATE AT LOW SPEED INCREASE DISTANCE TO STOP WITHOUT WARNING. POSSIBLE LEADING TO REAR ENDING OF OTHER VEHICLES AND THE POSSIBILITY OF INJURY TO OCCUPANTS OF OTHER VEHICLES. WHEN CONCERNS WERE ADDRESSED BY DEALER WAS TOLD TO REPLACE SENSORS AND CLEAN RUST OR "PULL THE FUSE AND IGNORE ABS LIGHTS ON DASH. *JB
I TOOK MY TRUCK IN FOR THE STATE INSPECTION... KEPT FAILING DUE TO BRAKES AFTER CHANGING THE BRAKES IT FAILED ON THE E-BRAKE, THAT WE HAVE NEVER USED, WHEN CHECKED THE WAS NO E-BRAKE PAD ON ONE SIDE AND YOU CAN SEE WHERE IT HAS WORN, THE CABLE DOES NOT EVEN TIGHTEN LIKE IT IS SUPPOSED TO... FOR SOMETHING WE DO NOT EVEN USE I DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW IT CAN BE THIS BAD. I STILL HAVE THE E-BRAKE WE CHANGED ON MY 2001 GMC SIERRA. *JB
ABS WILL ACTIVATE WHEN COMING TO A STOP AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH. ROTORS AND PADS WERE REPLACED 1 YEAR AGO AND DEALER PAID HALF UNDER WARRANTY. I'M NOW TOLD BY A REPUTABLE MECHANIC THAT THE SPEED SENSOR GEAR IS RUSTED AND THE WHOLE HUB WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED. *JB
BRAKE PEDAL WILL GO HARD AT LOW SPEED AND NOT BRAKE. MY DEALER SAID IT IS THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR AND HE CLEANED IT. GMC HAS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM ON THEIR SUVS AND SOME PICKUPS BUT NOT FOR MY TRUCK. *JB
EMERGENCY PARKING BRAKE DOES NOT WORK. WHEN TAKEN TO GET SERVICED THE CAUSE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED.*AK
DT: CONSUMER SAYS AT LOW SPEED UNDER 9 MPH THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM KICKS IN, AND VEHICLE LOSES BRAKING ABILITY. THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME. BRAKES PULSATE, AND CONSUMER SAYS HE HAS TO USE THE PARKING BRAKE TO STOP. THIS STARTED ABOUT SIX MONTHS AGO.*AK
DT THE BRAKING SYSTEM FAILED AT 10 MPH . HAD TWO TECHNICANS THAT VERIFIED WHAT WAS HAPPENING WITH THE VEHICLE AND THAT WAS THROUGH THE DEALER. THIS HAPPENED ON JANUARY 11, 2005. EXPECTED TO GET A RECALL LETTER BUT THIS VEHICKE WAS NOT INCLUDED DUE TO VIN. *AK
WHILE PARKING ON AN ICY PAVEMENT, THE ABS FAILED AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO HIT AND ROLL OVER THE CONCRETE PARKING DIVIDER. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER CLEANED THE CORROSION OFF BOTH FRONT WHEEL SENSORS. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT HIS BRAKES FAILED 3 TIMES UNDER 5MPH. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE ALSO HAS ENGINE TROUBLE AND HAS HAD TROUBLE SINCE PURCHASE. *TC

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
I OWN A 2001 GMC SIERRA 4 WD PICK-UP WITH 45,000 MILES THAT EXPERIENCED ANTI-LOCK FAILURE.THE SYSTEM WOULD START PULSATING AT LOW SPEEDS. I HAD MANY CLOSE CALLS(SMASHED IN TO MY GARAGE DOOR ONCE) BEFORE PULLING THE FUSE AS ADVISED BY THE GM DEALER.AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION I FOUND THAT MOST EVERYONE THAT I KNOW WITH 99-2002 YEAR GM VEHICLES HAD THEIR FUSES PULLED AS WELL. I CALLED GM PREVIOUSLY REGARDING OTHER BRAKE PROBLEMS (ANTI-LOCK PUMP FAILURE)(GM ROTORS THAT ONLY LAST 6,000 MIES) AND THE ARROGANT CUSTOMER SERVICE PERSONEL TRY TO CONVINCE YOU THAT THEY HAVEN'T HAD ANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THEIR BRAKE PARTS OR SYSTEMS AND WON'T COVER ANYTHING EVEN THOUGH WE KNOW THEY ARE LIARS. I SAW THE NHTSA INVESTIGATION NOTICE AND WANTED TO GIVE MY TWO CENTS. THANKS FOR MAKING THESE CROOKS CORRECT A DANGEROUS SITUATION.
WHILE DRIVING, THE CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN A HEAD ON COLLISION WHILE GOING AROUND A WINDING ROAD. SUBSEQUENTLY, THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING 35 MPH. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. *JB
FUEL GAUGE HAS NEVER WORKED PROPERLY( JUMPS FROM 1/2 TANK TO EMPTY) TODAY I WAS DRIVE ON ! 40 EAST AT THE POSTED SPEED OF 75 MPH WITH 1/2 TANK OF FUEL AND THE VEHICLE JUST SHUT DOWN, I DID GET SAFLEY TO THE SHOULDER, TO FIND I WAS OUT OF FUEL ...I T READ 1/2 TANK PREVIOUSLY I HAD HEARD OF THIS HAPPENING TO OTHER GMC OWNERS IN THIS AREA BUT IT WAS THEIR FUEL PUMPS. THE DEALER SAYS IT IS THE LOCAL REFINERY'S FALT FOR ADDITVIES IN THE FUEL .. AND THIS IS THE ONLY AREA WHERE THE FUEL SYSTEM IS BEING AFFECTED. MY EMPLOYEER HAD 2 FUEL PUMPS PUT IN HER NEW GMC YUKON IN 6 MONTHS, AT HER EXPENSE. I DO NOT WANT TO PAY FOR DEFECTIVE PARTS OR AN VEHICLE THAT IS UNSAFE FOR THE INTERSATE.
THE ACCELERATOR STICKS AND IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO DEPRESS. THE CARBURETOR DESIGN ALLOWS CARBON TO BUILD UP IN THE THROTTLE BODY THROAT. I OFTEN HAVE TO "HIT" THE ACCELERATOR WITH MY FOOT TO DISLODGE THE BUTTERFLY. THIS HAPPENS WORSE AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN SETTING FOR AN HOUR OR SO. IT WILL ALSO HAPPEN AFTER DEPARTURE WHILE SETTING IN TRAFFIC OR AT STOP LIGHTS. I USE MID GRADE FUEL AND THE TRUCK IS WELL MAINTAINED. THE DEALERSHIP WANTS TO CHARGE UP TO $100 TO CLEAN THE CARBON OUT ONLY TO HAVE IT RETURN IN A MATTER OF MONTHS. I HAVE TALKED TO OTHERS THAT HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME CONDITION/PROBLEM. IN MY OPINION THIS CONDITION IS A TRUE SAFETY ISSUE. *JB
DT: ABS WAS NOT WORKING CORRECTLY. RECENTLY HAD NEW BRAKES PUT ON BY A DEALER, AND THIS IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. WHEN APPLYING BRAKE PRESSURE YOU HEAR A GROWLING NOISE ,AND EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. NO OTHER REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE, BUT HAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER, WHO STATED THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE ABS SYSTEM. *AK
