TRANSMISSION SHIFTS WITH A STRONG JERK FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR, PROBLEM BEGAN 7/30/02, DEALER REPLACED VALVE BODY, RETURN AGAIN 8/8/02 WITH SAME PROBLEM, REPLACED SAME PART, OCCURRED AGAIN LEAVING DEALER SAME DAY AS PICKUP RETURNED BACK TO DEALER AGAIN ON 8/13/02 I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE CHANNEL PLATE AT THAT TIME BY SERVICE AND CALLED BY GM MFG AND WAS TOLD IT WAS VALVE BODY AGAIN. *AK
TL*- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SIERRA 1500 THAT HE PURCHASED IN DECEMBER 2001. SIX MONTHS AFTER THE DATE OF PURCHASE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE DID NOT WORK. HE TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER , AND THEY TOLD HIM THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THE TRUCK BECAUSE OF THE VIN HE GAVE THEM. HIS FRIEND HAS THE SAME TRUCK, BUT HIS VIN FELL UNDER THIS RECALL. ALSO CALLED THE MANUFACTURER, AND THEY INFORMED HIM THAT THIS VEHICLE DIDNOT FALL WITHIN THE RECALL FOR THE EMERGENCY BRAKE DUE TO TNE VIN. THE DEALER TOLD HIM THE BRAKES WERE WORN OUTAFTER DRIVING THE CAR OVER 10,000 MILES. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 130000 MILES.*AK UPDATED 02/22/07. *JB
ABS SYSTEM IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY, THERE IS A GRINDING NOISE WHEN APPLYING BRAKES. CONTACTED DEALER, AND THE DEALER IS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING.*AK
ROUGH IDLE, VEHICLE RUNS POORLY. CONTACTED DEALER. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE INFORMATION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC SIERRA 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH THE CONTACT HEARD A CLANKING NOISE AND FELT A VIBRATION IN THE STEERING COLUMN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VIBRATION AND THE SOUND WOULD OCCUR CONSTANTLY WHEN DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS AND BECAME MORE NOTICEABLE WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NOT A RECALL FOR THE FAILURE AND THEY COULD NOT PROVIDE ANY FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE WAS NEITHER DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000.
PROBLEMS WITH 2002 GMC SIERRA TRUCK HESITATING.*MR THE CONSUMER REQUESTED THAT GMS ASSIST IN GETTING THE PROBLEM RESOLVED BEFORE IT CAUSES A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD. *CB *JB
VEHICLE BOUNCES ALL OVER THE ROAD, BOTH OUTSIDE MIRRORS VIBRATE DUE TO THIS. DEALER HAS BALANCED TIRES, DID NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION.*AK
CONSUMER COMPLAINS OF PREMATURE STALLING AT IDLE. THE VEHICLE LACKS SUFFICIENT POWER, IT SURGES AND AT TIMES REFUSES TO ACCELERATE. THE TRANSMISSION DOESN'T SHIFT DOWN PROPERLY OUT OF 4TH GEAR AND THE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT DOES NOT COOL PROPERLY AND MAKES WHISTLING NOISES. *JG *JB
DT: SHORTLY AFTER THE PURCHASE OF THE TRUCK WHILE TRAVELING OVER A BUMP THE ABS KICKED IN AND THERE WAS A SLOW PULSATION OF BRAKES. VEHICLE WENT THROUGH A STOP SIGN. THIS OCCURRED ON DRY PAVEMENT. WHILE TRAVELING OVER INCH BUMP OR LARGER. THE OWNER EXPERIENCED THE SAME THING AS LISTED ABOVE. VEHICLE WAS SEEN BY THE SERVICE DEALER, AND THEY FOUND NO CODES ON THE COMPUTER, THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE OWNER WAS ADVISED THAT BRAKES WERE OPERATING PROPERLY. OWNER FOUND THAT PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL VERY FAST AND HARD OR PRESSING AND THEN RELEASING IT WAS THE ONLY WAY TO GAIN AFFECTIVE BRAKING. THE OWNER UNPLUGGED THE ABS FUSE, AND WAS ABLE TO HAVE THE BRAKES OPERATE NORMALLY. *AK
DEALER CLAIMS THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM. BRAKE PEDAL WILL TRAVEL EXCESSIVELY WHEN APPLIED SUDDENLY; SO FAR, OCCURRENCE HAS BEEN AT SLOWER SPEEDS AND INTERMITTENTLY. *AK
VEHICLE STALLS ON TAKE OFF, DEALER CANNOT REMEDY PROBLEM. *AK CONSUMER STATES THE PROBLEM OF THE VEHICLE STALLING WAS SOLVED BY USING HIGH OCTANE GASOLINE. THE CLUTCH DOES NOT ENGAGE PROPERLY, ALSO SOMETIMES SOUNDS SO LOOSE. *YH
THE VEHICLE MAKE A VERY LOUD TAP/KNOCK UPON START UP. *JB
CONSUMER STATES THE INSIDE HOOD LATCH LOCATION CAUSES THE HOOD TO OPEN WHILE DRIVING, MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. NLM WHEN MOVING TO THE LEFT CONSUMER'S FOOT CAN CATCH THE HOOD LATCH. *TT
GMC SERRIA 2002. OUR TRUCK HAS RUST ON THE BUMPER BEHIND THE PAINTED COVER. THE DEALER SUGGESTED THIS IS NORMAL AND POLISHED IT, WITHIN ONE WEEK THE BUMPER SHOWED RUST AGAIN. THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR IS NOT LINED UP CORRECTLY, THE DEALER TRIED TO ADJUST IT, THE RESULT IS THE DOOR MUST BE SLAMMED TO CLOSE IT. THE MOTOR MAKES KNOCKING SOUNDS AT THE START AS IF IT HAS NO OIL. THE OIL HAS BEEN CHANGED EVERY THREE THOUSAND MILES. THE KNOCK STARTED AFTER THE TRUCK TURNED FOUR THOUSAND MILES. THE DEALER TOLD US THAT GM REPORTS THE KNOCK IS NORMAL. IT IS THE FIRST TIME I''VE HEARD OF A GAS MOTOR HAVING AN INTENTIONAL KNOCK. WE HAVE HAD THE TRUCK THIS SINCE IT WAS NEW AND HAVE HAD THE DEALER DO ALL THE REGULAR MAINTENANCE INCLUDING TIRE ROTATIONS AND OIL CHANGES.
I HAVE REPLACED 1 CABLE ON MY 2002 GMC AT 28000 MILE AND HAVE ANTHER ONE THAT BROKE RECENTLY AT 33000 MILE BUT HAVEN'T REPLACED YET. *AK
THERE ARE PROBLEMS WITH THE SHIFTING MECHANISM ON THE TRANSMISSION. DEALER WAS CONTACTED. PH
DEALER HAS REPLACED GENERAL, AMERI-TECH TIRES SIZE 25570R16, THREE TIMES BECAUSE THEY WOULD NOT BALANCE. *AK THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THERE WAS STILL VIBRATION OF TIRES AFTER THEY WERE REPLACED AND BALANCED BECAUSE THE TIRES WERE POOR QUALITY. *YH
INTERMITTENT SURGES, LOSS OF POWER WHILE IN MOTION, TRANSMISSION, LACK OF ACCELERATION. *MR AT PURCHASE, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON THREE TIMES BEFORE LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP LOT. DEALER ADVISED THAT THE DEALER INSTALLED REMOTE STARTER OR ALARM SYSTEM WAS INTERFERING WITH FAULT SENSOR AND WAS NOT A PROBLEM. HOWEVER THE LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING, INTERMITTENT SURGES AND STALL OUTS AT FREEWAY SPEED/85 MPH STILL EXISTED. ON ONE OCCASION CONSUMER WAS ALMOST IN AN ACCIDENT WHEN THE TRANSMISSION CLANGED BETWEEN GEARS AND THERE WAS POOR ACCELERATION. CONSUMER HAD TO SHIFT INTO 4 WHEEL DRIVE OR MANUALLY DOWNSHIFT, OR TURN THE ENGINE OFF THEN ON AGAIN. DEALER REPLACED PCM MODULE, FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR AND GASKETS, FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY. HOWEVER PROBLEM STILL EXIST. DEALERSHIP AGREED TO HOLD THE VEHICLE FOR FURTHER INVESTIGATION. FURTHER INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT THE WIRES FROM THE DEALER INSTALLED ACCESSORIES SUCH AS THE ALARM SYSTEM AND REMOTE STARTER OR ANTI-THIEF SYSTEM, AND FACTORY WIRE FROM PCM/VCM TO THE TRANSMISSION BE REPLACED. DEALER REPLACED ALL IGNITION WIRING, WIRING FROM THE PCM/VCM TO THE TRANSMISSION AND REPLACED THE CONTROL VALVE BODY THAT REGULATES THE CRUISE CONTROL. CONSUMER HAS BEEN WITHOUT VEHICLE FOR MORE THAN 21 DAYS AND WILL SEEK A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE IF WIRING REPAIRS DOES NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM(S). *TT *NLM
WIPER BROKE INTERNALLY (MECHANISM) 2002 GMC TRUCK WITH LESS THAN 2500 MILES. HAPPENED IN A BLINDING SNOWSTORM!!! NO SNOW ON WINDSHIELD, JUST FLUFF!!! TURNED ON WIPER WHILE DRIVING AND AFTER 4 MIN WIPER STOPPED, MADE GRINDING NOISE, IT WAS DARK, SNOWSTORM AND FAR FROM HOME AND LATE, DEALER NOWHERE. FOUND OUT FROM FIVE LOCAL DEALERS THIS IS COMMON!!!! I WAS NOT THE ONLY ONE THIS DAY.. HOW MANY MORE OUT THERE?? HOW ABOUT A RECALL?? ANSWER ME THIS?? BTW UPDATE YOUR SITE THIS HAPPENED IN 2003 NOT 2002...... TS
SINCE PURCHASING MY 2002 SIERRA PICKUP WITH A 5.3L V-8 I HAVE NOTICED A TICKING SOUND WHEN YOU FIRST START UP THE VEHICLE. WORSE WHEN IT IS COLD OUT. AFTER A FEW MINUTES IT STOPS. I HAVE HAD THE DEALER LOOK AT IT IN THE PAST AND THEY DIDN'T SEEM TOO CONCERNED WITH IT AND OR SAID NO NOISE WAS FOUND. I CALLED GMC AND THEY ISSUED ME AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR 5 YEARS OR 100,000 MILES. WITH APPROXIMATELY 68,000 MILES ON THE TRUCK NOW THE NOISE IS GETTING WORSE AND IS QUITE LOUD WHEN YOU START IT UP IN THE MORNING. IT ALSO TAKES LONGER TO DISAPPEAR NOW. WHEN YOU START TO DRIVE IT, IT IS QUITE LOUD AND YOU WONDER IF IT IS DOING DAMAGE. IT SOUNDS LIKE A HYDRAULIC LIFTER NOT GETTING OIL. AFTER IT WARMS UP IN A FEW MINUTES IN DISAPPEARS. *TR
CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE DRIVING AND TRYING TO DOWN SHIFT THE VEHICLE AND NO WARNING THE RPM IS STILL RACING. DEALER NOTIFIED. MR
AFTER A TOTAL OF 19 VISITS TO THE GMC SERVICE DEPARTMENT WITH NO RESULTS MIRROR STILL VIBRATES ARBITRATION THROUGH THE BBB WAS ATTEMPTED ON 10-4-02. RESULTS IN FAVOR OF GMC ARBITRATOR AGREED MIRROR IS MFG DEFECT, BUT PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE IN GETTING IT REPAIRED. OTHER 2002 LIKE VEHICLES WERE TESTED AND FOUND TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS DEFECT IS MAKE/MODEL WIDE! ALL I WANT IS THE MIRROR VIBRATION TO STOP. I REALLY DON'T EVEN USE THE MIRROR ANYMORE CREATING A SAFETY HAZARD. DT
VIBRATION IN DRIVE TRAIN BEFORE AND AFTER REPLACEMENT OF DRIVESHAFT,NOISE IN FRONT END,POSSIBLE DEFECTIVE TIRES. *AK
DOORS NOT MOUNTED CORRECTLY, HINGES NEED TO BE PULLED OUT WITH FRAMING MACHINE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. COMMON PROBLEM WITH GMC TRUCKS IS WHAT THE AUTOBODY SHOP STATES.
2001 GMC SIERRA 1500. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO STEERING COMPONENT FAILURE. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED AMONTH AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE THE STEERING GEAR BEGAN LEAKING. *JS
REAR AXLE UNSTABLE WHEN CORNERING OVER MODERATE BUMPS. LOSES LATERAL TRACTION. DEALER FAILED TO MAKE A GENUINE EFFORT TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I REPLACED REAR SHOCKS AT MY OWN EXPENSE, PROBLEM WAS REDUCED BUT NOT ELIMINATED.
MEMORY MIRRORS HAVE A MIND OF THEIR OWN AND RESET TO RANDOM POSITIONS NOT SELECTED BY THE DRIVER. THE MIRRORS SOMETIMES "CREEP" WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. THERE IS A LOUD CRUCNING, RUBBING, OR GRINDING SOUND COMING FROM THE RIGHT FRONT WHELL WELL WHILE MAKING A VERY TIGHT LEFT TURN ON A SLIGHT INCLINE. A VERY LOUD HIGH PITCHED SQUEAL EMANATES FROM THE RADIO WHENEVER THE FM BAND IS SELECTED. THE SOUND IS VERY DISTRACTING AND CAUSES VEHICLE OCCUPANTS TO GET A HEADACHE.*AK
WHEN THE CONSUMER BACKED OUT OF A PARKING SPACE, THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOOR. *JB
THE REAR END OF VEHICLE SKIPS BACK AND FORTH WHEN I HIT A BUMP/WHEN I'M GOING ON A RAMP TURNING RIGHT WITH THE WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE ON THE LEFT SIDE AND HIT A BUMP OR WASH BOARD IT IS THE WORST. *AK
PASSENGER RESTRAINT BELTS DO NOT FUNCTION CORRECTLY.*AK THE SEAT BELT HAD BEEN REPLACED TWICE BUT CONTINUES TO LOCK UP.*YH
AFTER A LONG TRIP THE REAR END WILL VIBRATE AND SHIFTS WHEN TAKING OFF FROM A STOP. DEALER DROVE VEHICLE ON LONG TRIP BUT COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. NLM
CONSUMER HEARD A LOUD KNOCK IN THE ENGINE WHEN STARTING, THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND INDICATED THAT THE KNOCK WAS NOT AFFECTING THE DURABILITY OF VEHICLE. NLM *YD
THE OIL LIGHT ILLUMINATED AFTER 2500 MILES. THE CONSUMER FOUND OUT THAT THE VEHICLE HAD CONSUMED OVER 2 QUARTS OF OIL AND EMITTED BLUE SMOKE WHEN STARTED COLD. THE DEALER REPLACED THE PCV VALVE AS A CAUSE BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED SMOKING AND CONSUMING MORE OIL, THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT EVENTUALLY THEY WOULD HAVE A REDESIGNED VALVE COVER TO PREVENT THE PROBLEM, BUT THAT THEY COULD DO NO MORE AT THIS TIME. *YH
VEHICLE PULLS TO THE LEFT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. 2 ATTEMPTS BY THE DEALER HAVE FAILED TO REMEDY THE SITUATION. CONSUMER FEELS THIS CONDITION PRESENTS A DANGER TO HIMSELF AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC WHENEVER HIS FULL ATTENTION IS DIVERTED FROM TRYING TO KEEP THE VEHICLE GOING STRAIGHT. *TT
WHILE DRIVING AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WILL DOWN SHIFT ABRUPTLY AND VEHICLE MAY LUNGE FORWARD WHEN SITTING AT LIGHT. DRIVER MUST KEEP FOOT PRESSED HARD AGAINST BRAKE PEDAL TO KEEP FROM MOVING WHEN SITTING STILL. PLEASE DESCRIBE DETAILS. *AK
THE VEHICLE TIRE PRESSURE WAS 38-40 PSI IN ALL FOUR TIRES. THE PROPER PSI SHOULD BE 60-PSI FRONT 80-PSI REAR. CONSUMER STATED THAT THE TIRE PRESSURE WAS INCORRECT IN ALL FOUR TIRES. *YH
ON COLD STARTS THE ENGINE PRODUCES LOUD RAPPING SOUND AS IF RUNNING ON NO OIL. GMC HAS BEEN NOTIFIED, BUT IT IS DEEMED A NORMAL OPERATING SOUND, AND WILL NOT SHORTEN THE ENGINE LIFE. THEY NEVER MADE ANY ATTEMPT TO FIX PROBLEM, JUST OFFERED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON CERTAIN PARTS. IT REALLY MAKES ME WONDER HOW THEY KNOW WHAT PARTS TO COVER ON THE EXTENDED WARRANTY IF THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE ENGINE? DT
THE RUBBER GRAM WAS MISSING.*JB
THE VEHICLE SURGED, THE REMOTE STARTER INTERFERED WITH THE FAULT SENSOR WHICH CAUSED THE ENGINE LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE. THE VEHICLE LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING, AND STALLED, THE FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED, HOWEVER THE PROBLEMS CONTINUED. *TS. THE TRANSMISSION CHANGED BETWEEN GEARS, AND THE DEALER CHANGED THE PCM. THE PROBLEM WAS DISCOVERED TO BE INCORRECT WIRING WHICH WAS ROUTED WRONG WITHIN THE IGNITION WHICH CAUSED THE PROBLEMS. *JB
CAST IRON WHEEL MOUNT FAILED. *MR *SCC *NLM
THERE WAS A CONTINUOUS PROBLEMS WITH THE REAR LIGHTS ON A NEW VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE LOST DASH, RADIO, DRL, AND EXTERIOR LIGHTING. FUSE(S) WERE REPLACED AND SOME LIGHTS HAD COME BACK ON. THE CONSUMER HAS REQUESTED COMPENSATION AND A NEW VEHICLE. *MR *SCC *NLM
THE VEHICLES MUFFLER WAS COVERED WITH METAL THAT IMPACTED THE DRIVE SHAFT AND CAUSED IT TO WEAR WHEN THE VEHICLE WENT OVER BUMPS. *NLM *CB *NLM
WHILE HAVING THE TIRES ROTATED A TECHNICIAN NOTICED A GROOVE CUT FROM A ROCK BETWEEN THE BRAKE CALIPER AND THE RIM. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE WAS VIOLENTLY THROWN ABOUT AND SKIDDED TO A STOP.*MR UPON INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE IT WAS NOTED THAT THE FRONT AXLE VENT PLUG BROKE AND ALL THE OIL LEAKED OUT AND CAUSED THE DIFFERENTIAL TO SEIZE. FROM WHAT THE CONSUMER UNDERSTOOD THERE WAS LITTLE OR NO PROTECTION, SUCH A SHIELD OR GUARD, TO DEFLECT OBJECTS FROM STRIKING THE ASSEMBLY. *NLM *SC *JB
THE VEHICLE WAS EXPERIENCING INTERMITTENT BRAKE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AT LEAST 6 TIMES, HOWEVER, THE DEALER WAS NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE OR SOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK THE BRAKES WOULD MOMENTARILY PAUSE IN STOPPING ACTION, ALONG WITH INTERMITTENT GRABBING, THEN REPEAT ITSELF. BRAKE PULSATION WAS ALSO PRESENT. *SC *JB
