NOTICED SOMETHING LEAKING UNDER TRUCK IN FRONT OF FUEL TANK. FUEL LINE LEAKING AT CONNECTIONS ABOVE FUEL COOLER (LINES LOOK GOOD BUT ALL CONNECTIONS ARE BADLY RUSTED) DEALER WANTS $1,700.00 TO REPAIR, SAYS THERE IS NO RECALL. *TR
APPLIED BRAKES AT 35MPH AND PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR, CAUSING VEHICLE TO REAR END ANOTHER VEHICLE STOPPED AT TRAFFIC LIGHT. DRIVERS SIDE REAR BREAK LINE HAD RUPTURED DUE TO RUST. NO WARNING LIGHT OR BACKUP SYSTEM ACTIVATED. FURTHER INSPECTION SHOWS ALL BREAK LINES ARE SEVERELY RUSTED AND REQUIRE REPLACEMENT. ON LINE SEARCH INDICATES THIS IS A COMMON SAFETY PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. IT IS MIRACULOUS THAT THERE ARE NOT DEATHS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS MANUFACTURERS DEFECT. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC SIERRA 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE PEDAL WAS ABNORMALLY DEPRESSED INTO THE FLOORBOARD. THE CONTACT STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND AFTER INSPECTING, HE NOTICED THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS OR REPAIRS. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000.
THREE BROKEN MANIFOLD BOLTS. FROM WHAT I HEAR THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE. THE BROKEN ONE CLOSE TO FIREWALL, WILL HAVE TO PULL ENGINE TO FIX. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THESE MANIFOLD BOLTS. *TR
I WENT TO APPLY PARKING BRAKE ON MY 2002 GMC SIERRA 1500 WITH 40478 MILES ON IT AND THERE WAS A LOUD SNAP (I HAD ALREADY STOPPED THE TRUCK AND WAS GOING TO PARK IT) - EMERGENCY BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. RELEASE LEVER WORKS, PEDAL WILL GO BACK UP. IF IT IS PUSHED AGAIN THE PEDAL WILL GO TO THE FLOOR AND THERE IS NO PARKING BRAKE. *TR
WHEN OPERATING VEHICLE AT SLOW SPEED AND ATTEMPTING TO STOP ANTI LOCK BRAKES ENGAGED AND INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE IS REQUIRED. THIS VEHICLE WAS RECALLED FOR SAME PROBLEM IN 2005. I MADE AN ATTEMPT AT MY LOCAL GMC DEALER TO REMEDY THIS CONTINUING PROBLEM, HOWEVER, I WAS INFORMED THAT GENERAL MOTORS WOULD ONLY MAKE ONE ATTEMPT TO REMEDY ISSUE AND THAT I ALREADY HAD USED THAT. THE DEALER REPRESENTATIVE STATED THAT I COULD PULL THE FUSE ON THE ABS AND THE VEHICLE WOULD PERFORM STOPPING WITHOUT THE AID OF ABS AND WOULD STOP NORMALLY IN DRY ENVIRONMENT, WITHOUT THE ASSISTANCE OF ANTI LOCK BRAKES. I FEEL THIS IS A DESIGN PROBLEM AND IS A TREMENDOUS SAFETY ISSUE. I DID TAKE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER MECHANIC WHO DROVE VEHICLE IN HIS PARKING LOT AND THE PROBLEM OCCURRED TO HIM ALMOST CAUSING A CRASH IN HIS LOT. *JB

6/5/12 AFTER ONLY 54K MILES ON MY 2002 GMC SIERRA 1500 2WD PICKUP, I EXPERIENCED AN INSTANTANEOUS AND COMPLETE BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE AS A DIRECT RESULT OF A CORRODED BRAKE LINE(S), WHICH BURST, CAUSING A COMPLETE LOSS OF BRAKE FLUID AND PRESSURE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ONE BRAKE APPLICATION AFTER EXITING THE OFF-RAMP OF A HIGHWAY; I WAS VERY FORTUNATE THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED AT LOW SPEED (APPROX. 15MPH) WHILE ENTERING A PARKING LOT. THERE WAS NO COLLATERAL DAMAGE OR INJURIES INVOLVED. FURTHER INSPECTION BY THE GM DEALER REVELED THAT ALL OF THE ASSOCIATED BRAKE LINES WERE HEAVILY CORRODED AND PRONE TO FAILURE AT SOME POINT IN THE NEAR TERM. THE GM DEALER OFFERED TO REPAIR THE ONE BRAKE LINE THAT HAD FAILED FOR $600.00 AND INDICATED TO ME THAT REPLACING ALL NECESSARY BRAKE LINES WOULD BE COST PROHIBITIVE. I ELECTED NOT TO HAVE GM REPAIR MY VEHICLE; SINCE THE COST FOR REPLACING ONE BRAKE LINE @ $600.00 IS RIDICULOUS! FURTHER, REPLACING THE FAILED BRAKE LINE ONLY WAS NOT ACCEPTABLE TO ME SINCE THE ASSOCIATED BRAKE LINES ARE CLOSE TO FAILING AS WELL. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL REPUTABLE AUTO REPAIR FACILITY, WHO OFFERED A MUCH MORE REASONABLE QUOTATION AND WHO PERFORMED A COMPREHENSIVE INSPECTION/REPAIR OF MULTIPLE SUSPECT BRAKE LINES IN ORDER TO MAKE THE VEHICLE TRULY SAFE. I AM NOT HAPPY WITH GM DUE TO THEIR NON-RESPONSIVENESS OF THIS VERY SERIOUS MECHANICAL PROBLEM AND ASSOCIATED RISK TO PUBLIC SAFETY. I DO NOT BELIEVE IT IS REASONABLE FOR BRAKE LINES TO FAIL DUE TO CORROSION WITHIN THE FIRST TEN YEARS OF OPERATION; ESPECIALLY, FOR A VEHICLE WITH ONLY 54K MILES. THIS IS TRULY A PUBLIC SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED, HOWEVER, I HAVE NO CONFIDENCE THAT GM WILL ACT WITHOUT FEDERAL INTERVENTION. DISAPPOINTED IN GM - *TR
FAILURE OF FOURTH ABS HUB SENSOR ON THIS SAME VEHICLE EACH COSTING BETWEEN $450 - $600. TO REPLACE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC SIERRA 2500HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT BRAKE LINES FAILED AND THE REAR LINES WERE VERY CLOSE TO FAILING. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE AND WAS INFORMED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 108,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES AND ABS WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATED SPORADICALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS CONTROL MODULE WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
I FIRST NOTICED THAT THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES WERE ACTIVATING AT SLOW SPEEDS ( 5-10 MPH ) UNDER DRY ROAD CONDITIONS. THIS WAS PRIOR TO BRAKE LINE INCIDENT ON 4-14-2012 BUT I AM NOT SURE OF EXACT DATE. I RESEARCHED THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES AND FOUND NHTSA ID CAMPAIGN #05V379000 ACTION # PE05020 BUT THIS DID NOT INCLUDE MY HOME STATE OF KENTUCKY. HOWEVER, I HAVE BEEN WORKING IN OHIO SINCE THE PURCHASE OF SAID VEHICLE 10-17-2001 TO CURRENT DATE 2-11-2013. ON 4-14-2012 I WAS PREPARING TO TAKE MY BOAT TO FUEL IT . WHILE CHECKING THE TRAILER LIGHTS I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND IT WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR. I FOUND THAT THE BRAKE LINE TO THE REAR WHEELS HAD BURST IN HALF AND WAS SEVERELY CORRODED. UPON CLOSER INSPECTION I FOUND THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES SHOWED SIGNS OF SEVERE CORROISION. ON 2-8-2013 I DISCOVERED THAT DIESEL FUEL WAS LEAKING NEAR THE FUEL TANK AND FUEL COOLER. IT WAS FOUND TO BE A CORRODED RETURN FUEL LINE BETWEEN THE COOLER AND THE FUEL TANK .AGAIN UPON CLOSER INSPECTION ALL FUEL LINES SHOW MODERATE TO SEVERE CORROISION. *TR
I LOST BRAKES ON A RETURN TRIP FROM SHOPPING TRIP AT A NEAR BY TOWN . I WAS ABLE TO STOP BY USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE IN TIME TO PREVENT HITTING THE VEHICLE STOPPED AHEAD OF ME AT A RED LIGHT. I WAS ABLE TO GET MY VEHICLE HOME BY DRIVING AT VERY LOW SPEED AND USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WITH WITHOUT ANY FURTHER INCIDENT . I ATTEMPTED TO REPAIR THE CORRODED SECTION OF THE LINE . WHILE BLEEDING THE BRAKE LINES ANOTHER SECTION RUPTURE . UPON FURTHER INSPECTION I DISCOVERED ALL THE LINES WERE CORRODING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED . ALSO ALL THE COUPLINGS ON THE FUEL LINES ARE CORRODED . MY TRUCK HAS BEEN SITTING IN MY DRIVE WAY FOR LACK OF THE FUNDS TO GET IT REPAIRED .THE ESTIMATE FOR THE BRAKE LINES TO BE REPAIRED IS ABOUT $1200.00. I HAVEN'T GOT A CLEAR ESTIMATE FOR THE FUEL LINE COUPLINGS BECAUSE THE MIGHT ALSO HAVE TO BE REPLACED IF THEY CAN'T BE REPAIRED . THE FUEL LINES OTHER WISE ARE NOT CORRODED. *TR
ABS ACTIVATES AT SLOW SPEEDS WHEN NOT NEEDED, CAUSING VEHICLE TO BE UNABLE TO STOP IN A REASONABLE DISTANCE. THIS MOST OFTEN OCCURS WHEN PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE AT SLOW SPEEDS WITH THE STEERING WHEEL TURNED TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT. *TR
BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO FLOOR AND IS KICKED BACK, NO BRAKES AT LOW SPEEDS 5 TO 8 MPH. WAS SUBJECT TO RECALL WHEN STILL UNDER MANUFACTURES WARRANTY. PROBLEM IS SAME NOW. NO BRAKES AT LOW SPEEDS. PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW, VERY LOW MILEAGE. GMC WILL NOT RESPOND TO COMPLAINT. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE. *TR
WE WERE TRAVELING WEST BOUND ON GEORGE BUSH TURNPIKE IN PLANO, TEXAS AT THE N CENTRAL EXPRESSWAY EXIT A VEHICLE TRAVELING IN THE LANE TO OUR RIGHT CAME INTO MY LANE CUTTING ME OFF AND I SWERVED TO MISS SAID VEHICLE AND CORRECTED TO THE LEFT AND CORRECTED BACK TO THE RIGHT TO MISS A VEHICLE COMING UP ON MY LEFT. IT HAD BEEN RAINING AND THE ROADS WERE SLICK, WE WENT INTO A SKID AND INTO A CONCERT BARRIER TRAVELING AROUND 60 TO 65 MILES AN HOUR. NO OTHER VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED. MYSELF AND MY PASSENGER WERE BOTH INJURED. WE RECEIVED SUBSTANTIAL SEATBELT TRAUMA TO OUR UPPER TORSO AND MYSELF AS THE DRIVE SUSTAINED A BROKEN KNEE CAP AND MY PASSENGER RECEIVED DEEP BRUISING TO HER UPPER TORSO AND SHOULDER AND DEEP BRUISE AND TISSUE TRAUMA TO HER KNEE. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC SIERRA 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH,THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A CONCRETE WALL HEAD FIRST. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE RIBS, SHOULDER AND RIGHT KNEE. THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE RIGHT KNEE AND LACERATIONS TO THE NECK FROM THE SEAT BELT. THE CONTACT AND THE PASSENGER WERE TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL VIA AMBULANCE. THE POLICE REPORTED TO THE SCENE AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER HAD THE VEHICLE INSPECTED BY AN ENGINEER. THE CONTACT STATED THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT EXPLAIN THE CAUSE OF THE AIR BAG FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 103,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH WITH THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKES, THE BRAKES WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR BOARD. THE CONTACT ENGAGED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABS WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THE BRAKE LINES IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE WERE RUSTED AWAY AND THEY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE REAR BRAKE LINES. APPROXIMATELY 4 MONTHS LATER THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE RECURRED WHILE DRIVING SLOWLY IN A PARKING LOT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MECHANIC WAS ON SITE AND ADVISED HIM THAT THE BRAKE FLUID WAS POURING OUT RAPIDLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AGAIN AND THEY INFORMED HIM THAT BRAKE LINES ALONG THE DOOR WERE RUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE BRAKE LINES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 177,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 178,000. EXHAUST LEAK ON DRIVERS SIDE OF ENGINE. BROKEN BOLTS ON EXHAUST MANIFOLD. *TR
WAS DRIVING DONW SREET IN CAME TO STOP SIGN BRAKES FAILED, ALMOST WAS HIT BY 2 CARS, HAD TRUCK TOWED TO GARAGE, MECHANIC SAID HE IS REPLACING MORE BRAKE LINES ON GM PRODUCTS THAN EVER BEFORE, SAME THING HAPPENED TO MY 93 ELDORADO. GM IS USING VERY CHEAP BRAKE LINES THAT CORRODE VERY QUICKLY, THEY ARE NOT PROTECTED BE ANY ANTI-CORROSIVE MATERIAL OR SPRAY. TRUCK IS AT AN AUTO SERV WAITING FOR REPAIR, WAS TOLD WILL BE BETWEEN 6-7 HUNDRED TO FIX! GM SHOULD PAY FOR THIS! 100% BRAKE FAILURE DUE TO RUPTURED METAL BRAKE LINE, SEVERE CORROSION. ALL LINES REQUIRE REPLACEMENT. GMC NOTIFIED, NO REPLACE PARTS SUPPORTED BY MANUFACTURER. TRUCK STOPPED WITH USE OF EMERGENCY BRAKE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL COMPONENTS FAILED. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER FAILED AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 64,000. VEHICLE BRAKE PEDAL GOES TO THE FLOOR AT LOW SPEEDS 5-10MPH DURING STOP. THE ABS LIGHT DOES NOT ILLUMINATE. VERY CLOSE TO SERIOUS ACCIDENT (S). THIS IS NOT A TRACTION OR LACK OF TRACTION ISSUE. THIS SEEMS TO BE WHEEL SPEED SENSORS THAT CONTINUALLY REQUIRE REPLACING. REAR CALIPERS ON THIS VEHICLE WITH LESS THAN 65K MILES HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWICE. BRAKES HAVE BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE NEW. BRAKE LINES ROTTED WITH LESS THAN 60K MILES ON VEHICLE AND GM REFUSED TO CONSIDER THIS A DEFECT WHICH IT WAS AND IS. *TR
THE METALLIC BRAKE LINE TUBING RUPTURED CAUSING BRAKE FAILURE WHILE TRAVELING 50 MPH ON A DOWNGRADE. THE METAL LINE ABOVE THE REAR AXLE, PASSENGER SIDE, CORRODED THROUGH AND SPEWED BRAKE FLUID ALL OVER. THE CORROSION POINT IS ABOUT 7-10 INCHES FORWARD OF THE JUNCTION WHERE THE BRAKE LINE TRANSITIONS TO RUBBER HOSE THAT GOES TO THE REAR AXLE JUNCTION. THERE IS ALSO AN UNUSUAL AMOUNT OF CORROSION ON THE GAS FUEL FILTER FITTINGS LOCATED JUST FORWARD OF THE GASOLINE TANK. I WAS ABLE TO SLOW AND STOP BY DOWNSHIFTING AND USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. BRAKE LINES SHOULD NOT CORRODE AND FAIL IN ANY CLIMATE ON A 9 YEAR OLD TRUCK! THEY SHOULD NOT CORRODE PERIOD. *TR
BOTH THE DRIVER SIDE AND REAR BRAKE LINES, BECAUSE OF RUST, BURST AT THE SAME TIME. IT WAS LUCKY THE CAR WAS NOT ON THE ROAD.I HAVE REPLACED ALL THE LINES AND HAD TO REPLACE THE FRONT CALIPERS BECAUSE THE BLEEDING NIPPLED WERE COMPLETELY GONE DUE TO RUST. THE REAR CALIPERS WERE IN GOOD SHAPE.OVER THE COURSE OF OWNERSHIP, I HAVE HAD TO FORCEFULLY REMOVE THE TIRES FROM THE HUB BECAUSE THEY WERE RUSTED TO THE HUB. AGAIN I WAS LUCKY THAT I DID THIS WORK AT HOME AND WOULD HAVE BEEN IN SERIOUS TROUBLE HAD I BEEN FORCED TO CHANGE TIRES DUE TO A FLAT. IT ALSO APPEARS THE TRUCK FRAME IS SHOWING ADVANCE RUSTING FOR ITS AGE AND MILEAGE. *TR
I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO SHIFT THE TRUCK FROM OUT OF PARK AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I GOT OUT OF THE TRUCK AND FOUND A PUDDLE OF FLUID IN THE AREA IN FRONT OF THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR TIRE. IT APPEARED AS THOUGH THE BRAKE LINE GOING TO THE BACK BRAKES RUPTURED IN THE AREA BEHIND THE GAS TANK. *TR
BACKING UP TO THE GARAGE PUT BRAKE ON DIDN'T STOP, I THOUGHT I WOULD HIT THE GARAGE PUT I DID GET STOP IN TIME. STEEL LINE RUSTED, BLOWN LINE ON BACK BRAKES. *TR
HYDRAULIC BRAKE LINE CORROSION: THE BRAKE LINES BECAME SO CORRODED THAT I WAS LOSING APPROXIMATELY 16 OZ.OF FLUID EVERY 1000 MILES.THE CORROSION WAS SO BAD THAT THE BLEEDERS ON THE FRONT CALIPERS HAD RUSTED OFF AND HAD TO BE REPLACED AS WELL AS ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES.THIS RESULTED IN A REPAIR BILL OF $701.31.ONLY TIME WILL TELL WHEN THE REMAINING LINES AND CALIPERS WILL NEED REPLACING.ONLY A FEW WEEKS AGO THE SERVICE MGR. AT THIS LOCATION TOLD ME I PROBABLY HAD THE BEST LOOKING 2002 GMC PICK-UP IN THE U.S. SO NEGLECT IS NOT AT FAULT HERE.
STEPPED ON THE BRAKE TO PUT THE TRUCK IN GEAR WHEN IT WAS NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR! BACKED UP, PULLED FORWARD, THERE WERE NO BRAKES! VEHICLE WAS CAREFULLY DRIVEN HOME USING BACK ROADS AND TRANSMISSION BRAKING ALONG WITH LIMITED PEDAL BRAKING. BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON JUST BEFORE ARRIVING AT HOME, 10 MILES DOWN THE ROAD. THE TRUCK IS PRESENTLY IN AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR FACILITY. ALL METAL BRAKE LINES ARE TO BE REPLACED AT SIGNIFICANT COST TO ME. UPON INSPECTION IT IS APPARENT THAT THE BRAKE LINES ARE MORE OF SUBSTANDARD MATERIAL. ALL METAL LINES SHOW EXCESSIVE CORROSION AND DETERIORATION FOR A VEHICLE OF THIS AGE AND MILEAGE. THE TRUCK IS MY WIFE'S AND WAS RARELY DRIVEN DURING WINTER MONTHS.
BRAKE LINE BURST OPEN WHILE APPLYING BRAKE TO PARK VEHICLE ON AN INCLINE. BRAKE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR. LINE WAS LEAKING WHERE LINES RUN ALONG THE FRAME UNDER THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT DOOR. AFTER FURTHER INSPECTION ALL BRAKE LINES ARE EXTREMELY CORRODED AND NEAR RUSTED THROUGH. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 15 MPH WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED INTO THE FLOORBOARD ABNORMALLY. THE CONTACT HAD TO UTILIZE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT BRAKE FLUIDS WERE LEAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO INSPECTED THE BRAKES AND BRAKE LINES AND FOUND THAT THE BRAKE LINE SYSTEM WAS RUSTED. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT ALL FOUR BRAKE LINES WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE WHO ADVISED THAT THE BRAKE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. THE MANUFACTURER THEN ADVISED THAT A REPRESENTATIVE WOULD RETURN THE CONTACT'S CALL AT A LATER DATE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 114,000.
2002 GMC SIERRA 2500HD. CONSUMER STATES PROBLEM WITH VEHICLE ENGINE *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE ENGINE WOULD SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING, LOOSING ALL POWER TO THE STEERING AND BRAKES, AND COULD NOT BE STARTED AGAIN, UNTIL THE TRUCK WAS PUT IN PARK AND THE KEY REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION. THERE WERE ALSO TIMES, WHEN THE TRUCK WOULD NOT START AT ALL. THE DEALER KEPT THE TRUCK FOR THREE WEEKS AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. WHEN THE CONSUMER PICKED THE TRUCK UP AND DROVE 10 MILES, IT SHUT DOWN AGAIN. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE PROBLEM WAS FUEL RELATED. *JB

WHILE ATTEMPTING TO REVERSE FROM A RESIDENTIAL DRIVEWAY WHILE TOWING A TRAILER, THE CONTACT APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES HOWEVER, THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOORBOARD ABNORMALLY AND DID NOT STOP THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE WITH RUSTED AND CORRODED BRAKE LINES. THE BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACED BY THE MECHANIC. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 140,272 AND THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,100. UPDATED 11/03/11. *JB

THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO A REPAIR SHOP. THE MECHANIC STATED THE BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS AN INVESTIGATION UNDER NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE10010 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:POWER ASSIST:HYDRAULIC:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS) THAT MAY BE RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 175,000.
A BREAK LINE RUPTURED RESULTING IN LOSS OF FLUID AND DIMINISHED BREAKING. FORTUNATELY IT DID NOT RESULT IN A CATASTROPHIC LOSS IN BREAKING AT A CRITICAL TIME. THE RUPTURED LINE IS NEAR THE GAS TANK AND AT FIRST APPEARED TO BE A GAS LEAK. UPON INSPECTION ALL BREAK LINES ARE SUBSTANTIALLY RUSTED AND MUST BE REPLACED TO MAINTAIN SAFETY. ONE RUSTY LINE COULD INDICATE DAMAGE OR A SINGLE DEFECTIVE PART. 100% OF THE LINES BEING CORRODED TO AN UNSAFE LEVEL INDICATES SUBSTANDARD PARTS. THE REAR DISC BREAKS HAVE BEEN A CONSTANT PROBLEM WITH CORROSION OF SLIDING PARTS RESULTING IN CALIPERS NOT MOVING FREELY. THE SPONGY FEEL TO THE BREAKS WAS ATTRIBUTED TO STICKING OF THE REAR CALIPERS RATHER THAN A FLUID LEAK. ANNUAL LUBRICATION AND A TOTAL REPLACEMENT OF REAR BREAKS HAS BECOME NORMAL PRACTICE. THE POOR REAR BREAKS CAN LEAD ONE TO NOT NOTICE A SLOW LEAK OF BREAK FLUID UNTIL A TOTAL LOSS OF BREAKING ACTION. THE SLIGHT EXTRA COST FOR CORROSION RESISTANT BREAK PARTS COULD SAVE LIVES.

THE PRIVATE MECHANIC ALSO STATED THAT THERE MAY BE SAFETY RELATED FAILURES INVOLVING THE SUSPENSION AND BRAKE PEDAL BECAUSE THE PEDAL HAD TO BE DEPRESSED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR BEFORE THE BRAKES FUNCTIONED PROPERLY. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE SAFETY BELTS FAILED TO OPEN AND CLOSE PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 101,950. THE CONSUMER STATED TO PLEASES DISREGARD NOTICE. HE CALLED THE SAFETY LINE TO REPORT A COMPLAINT AGAINST A VEHICLE INSPECTION STATION, NOT KNOWING THE HOTLINE WAS TO REPORT SAFETY DEFECTS. UPDATED 10/07/11
DURING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE IN THE SHOP THE TRUCK WAS STARTED TO MOVE IT AND THE BRAKE LINE BURST NEAR THE POINT THE BRAKE LINE EXITS THE FRAME RAIL NEAR THE REAR AXLE. ALL REAR BRAKING WAS LOST. IF THIS HAD OCCURRED ON THE HIGHWAY IT COULD HAVE BEEN A CATASTROPHIC EVENT. *KB

I WAS DRIVING AND MY BRAKES WENT TO THE FLOOR. I GOT IT TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THEY SAID MY REAR AND FRONT DRIVERS SIDE BRAKE LINES HAD RUSTED OUT AND HAD HOLES IN THEM. I HAD THEM REPLACED. THEN ON FEBRUARY 2013 I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN. IT TURNED OUT THAT NOW THE DRIVER SIDE AND THE TWO LINES TO THE MASTER CYLINDER HAVE RUSTED THROUGH. I HAVE NEVER HAD A BRAKE LINE RUST THROUGH. ON THIS TRUCK I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE EVERYTHING AT THE COST OF OVER $500.00. THIS IS NOT RITE.... *TR

2002 GMC SIERRA 1500 5.3 STD CAB SLT WHILE BRAKING AT LOW SPEEDS THE ANTI LOCK BRACKET SYSTEM TRIGGERS CAUSING UNSAFE STOPPING DISTANCES. LUCKILY, I'VE NOT CRASH INTO ANOTHER CAR OR PERSON, BUT CURBS, SHOPPING CARTS AND DITCHES HAVE BEEN RUN INTO DUE TO THE TRUCK NOT STOPPING. THIS HAPPENS WHILE BRAKING UNDER 10MPH AND IT IS RARELY POSSIBLE TO GET THE TRUCK TO NORMALLY BRAKE, OFTEN I HAVE TO KICK THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO TRY AND SLOW THE TRUCK. WHEN BRAKING THE TRUCKS ABS SYSTEM KICKS IN THE BRAKE PEDAL GOES FROM SOFT AND MUSHY TO EXTREMELY HARD AND YOU CAN'T PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL. I WEIGH 220PLUS AND WHEN THIS HAPPENS THERE IS REALLY NOTHING YOU CAN DO BESIDES STEER OUT OF HARMS WAY AND KEEP TAPING THE BRAKE PEDAL WAITING FOR THE ABS TO STOP. THIS HAPPENS EVERYDAY I'VE ALREADY HAD CHANGED OUT THE HUBS BEFORE KNOWING OF THIS ISSUE AND NOW I HAVE TO REPLACE THEM AGAIN . I'M EXPECTING TO HAVE TO PAY MORE THAN1000 US DOLLARS FOR POOR DESIGN AND RECALL EFFORTS ON GM. I'VE IN CHICAGO AND SUBURBS FOR THE ENTIRE LIFE OF THE TRUCK. BRAKE LINES ARE SEVERELY CORRODED AND LOOK READY TO FAIL, AND I FIND OUT THAT THIS IS A COMMON COMPLAINT AND ALL THE BRAKE LINES SHOULD AND MUST BE REPLACED BY GENERAL MOTORS. THE GMC AND CHEVROLET 2500HD MODELS ARE NOTORIOUS FOR THIS MALADY, AND THE NTSB SHOULD DO THEIR JOB AND FORCE GM TO REPLACE AT NO CHARGE, THE VEHICLES BRAKE LINES. *TR
DRIVING ALONG AT APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH AND TRIED TO STOP FOR RED LIGHT AND BRAKE PEDDLE WENT TO FLOOR. WAS ABLE TO STOP AGAINST CURB. CHECKED AND FOUND BRAKE FLUID LEAKING FROM UNDER DRIVERS SIDE DOOR. VEHICLE FOUND TO HAVE RUSTED OUT BRAKE LINES. SPECIFICALLY LEAKING WERE THE LINES TO AND FROM THE ABS UNIT. ALL FOUR FORWARD FACING LINES WERE RUSTED IN CLIP IN FRAME. AT LEAST TWO WERE LEAKING. REPLACED FOUR LINES OUT OF NINE MAY NEED OTHERS REPLACED IN FUTURE. TOOK PICTURE OF LEAKING AREA AND HAVE SECTION OF OLD LINE WITH LEAK. COST TO REPLACE THE FOUR LINES WAS LINES WAS $515.83. THIS PICK UP ONLY HAS 63K MILES. BRAKE LINES SHOULD LAST. *TR
