RECENT PRE-PURCHASE INSPECTION OF 2002 GMC SIERRA 4WD INDICATED EXCESSIVE CORROSION OF CHASSIS AND BRAKE LINES WHICH RESULTED IN A RECOMMENDATION OF IMMEDIATE BRAKE LINE REPLACEMENT TO PASS PENNSYLVANIA VEHICLE SAFETY INSPECTION CERTIFICATION. *TR
BRAKE FAILURE. WENT TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN AND NO BRAKES. I WAS FAST ENOUGH ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO AVOID A COLLISION. WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT HOME. CHECKED UNDER TRUCK AND THE METAL BRAKE LINE HAD RUPTURED. BRAKE LINES AND FUEL LINES ARE RUSTED. TRUCK IN SHOP NOW. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THE BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATED CONSTANTLY, THE VEHICLE LOST BRAKE FLUID PREMATURELY, AND A BRAKE LINE RUPTURED WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST THAT LOCATED THE FAILURE IN THE BRAKE LINES, AND CALIPERS DUE TO CORROSION. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE BRAKE LINES, AND CALIPERS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 109,963. UPDATED 12/20/11*LJ UPDATED 01/19/12
I APPLIED MY BRAKES ON MY GMC TRUCK AND THEY FAILED . THE BRAKE TUBING RUSTED THRU AT THE ABS UNIT. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION IT WAS DETERMINED THAT ALL THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED SEVERELY. I TRIED TO FIND PRE BENT LINES AND THEY ARE NOT AVAIL. FROM GM AND NOT AVAIL FROM AFTERMARKET FOR A 2002 GMC 2500HD 2WD OR ANY GMC FROM DEALER.FRME AND UNDERCARRIAGE IS RUSTED WORSE THE MY 1983 AND BRAKE ROTORS RUSTED AND FLAKED AWAY. *TR

2002 GMC SIERRA 1500 BRAKELINE FAILURE DUE TO SEVERE CORROSION OF HARD LINES UNDER DRIVERS SIDE . I WAS BACKING OUT OF A PARKING LOT WHEN BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR AND HAD SEVERE LOSS OF BRAKING POWER. UNDER FURTHER INVESTIGATION ONE LINE WAS RUSTED THROUGH AND OTHERS SEVERELY CORRODED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC SIERRA 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABS ACTIVATED INDEPENDENTLY AT REDUCED SPEEDS WHEN COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V379000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTILOCK). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 89,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 88,000. UPDATED 06/01/11*LJ UPDATED 06/02/11
WAS HEADING DOWN THE STREET, COMING TO A STOP SIGN. SLOWING DOWN, GOT TO ABOUT 9 MPH, AND THEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, AND WAS UNABLE TO STOP IN TIME AND WENT INTO THE INTERSECTION AND FINALLY STOPPED 30 FEET AFTER THE STOP SIGN WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL ALL THE WAY ON THE FLOOR. GOT THE TRUCK HOME, SOMEWHAT SAFELY, AND FOUND OUT THAT ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES WERE RUSTED, AND ENDED UP HAVING TO REPLACE ALL OF THE LINES DUE TO THEM CRUMBLING WHEN TOUCHING THEM. *TR
THREE BRAKE LINES RUPTURED SIMULTANEOUSLY CAUSING AN INABILITY TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CAUSE OF FAILURE WAS RELATED TO AN EXTENSIVE AMOUNT OF CORROSION ON ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES ON THE VEHICLE. COMPLETE REPLACE IS NECESSARY. THERE IS A REGIONAL RECALL ON THIS EXACT ISSUE BUT DOES NOT INCLUDE MY STATE. THERE ARE CONSIDERABLE REPORTS OF THIS FAILURE ACROSS THE COUNTRY BUT GM AND EVEN WORSE NHTSA FAILS TO FORCE A NATIONWIDE RECALL OF THIS POTENTIALITY DEADLY FAILURE. A SIMPLE SEARCH OF THE INTERNET WILL PROVE THIS DEFECT IS NOT CONSTRAINED TO ONLY THE RUST BELT STATES. MY '66 CHEVY STILL HAS THE ORIGINAL BRAKE LINES WITH NO SIGNS OF DEGRADATION HOWEVER MY '02 GMC REQUIRES THE REPLACEMENT OF ALL METAL LINES ON THE VEHICLE. THE EXISTENCE OF A CURRENT REGIONAL RECALL PROVES THAT GM ADMITS TO THE PROBLEM! THIS FAILURE NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED NATIONWIDE. *LN
ON MY 2002 GMC SIERRA 1500 EXTENDED CAB 2WD THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS GO ON AND OFF. I HAD MY LOCAL GM DEALER ADDRESS THIS ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THEY HAVE COME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THE ABS BRAKE MODULE IS BAD. I ASKED IF THERE WERE ANY RECALLS ON THIS THEY SAID THEIR IS A BULLETIN OUT THAT THE GROUNDS COULD BE BAD SO I HAD THEM DO THIS FIX IT DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM ALSO THEIR WAS A RECALL TO FIX THE SPEED SENSORS IN THE WHEELS WHICH THEY FIXED ALSO DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. I DECIDED TO GOOGLE THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM TO SEE IF OTHER PEOPLE HAD THIS SAME ISSUE I HAVE FOUND HUNDRED OF THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WITH EXACT SAME ISSUE OR WERE IT HAS EVEN GOTTEN WORSE AND THE LIGHTS STAY ON ALL THE TIME. IT SEEMS TO AFFECT GM VEHICLES MADE FROM 1999 TO 2007 CARS AND TRUCKS BUT MOSTLY TRUCKS. TO ME THIS IS A BIG SAFETY ISSUE MOST PEOPLE DO NOT KNOW THAT WHEN BOTH OF THOSE LIGHTS ARE ON THEY HAVE NO ABS. I WAS LUCKY TO HAVE A GOOD SERVICE MANAGER WHO EXPLAINED THIS TO ME AND HOW OFTEN THIS PROBLEM OCCURS. THANK YOU. *TR
EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS BREAK CAUSING EMISSION FAILURE AND EXHAUST LEAK. THE REPAIR BILL IS UP TO $1000. OR MORE. YOU HAVE TO HAVE A GARAGE DRILL OUT OLD BOLTS AND REPLACE. *TR
I HAVE A 2001 CHEVROLET TRUCK WITH A 4.3 LITER V6 ENGINE AND A 2002 GMC SIERRA 1500 HD WITH A 6.0 LITER V8 ENGINE AND BOTH OF THEM HAVE FUEL GAUGE PROBLEMS. THE FUEL GAUGE IS VERY ERRATIC AND HARDLY EVER ACCURATE. I WAS GOING ABOUT 70 MPH AND SHOWED 1/2 TANK OF GAS AND ALL OF A SUDDEN RAN OUT OF GAS IN THE 2002 MODEL. THE 2001 MODEL IS NEVER ACCURATE. I HAVE TO CARRY SPARE GAS WITH ME EVERYWHERE. ON THE INTERNET, THERE ARE THOUSAND AND THOUSANDS OF OTHER PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEMS IN NUMEROUS CHAT LOGS. GM SHOULD RECALL THESE VEHICLES AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS MAJOR DEFECT. *TR
THE PEDAL WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR, AND I MISSED THE TURN I WAS TRYING TO MAKE. I ROLLED TO A STOP. I WALKED TO A SERVICE STATION. I WAS INFORMED THAT ALL BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. ALL LINES, HOSES, AND CALIPERS WERE REPLACED AT A COST OF $1800.00. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC SIERRA. WHILE TRYING TO PARK THE VEHICLE THE BRAKE PEDAL EXTENDED TO THE FLOOR. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME THE CONTACT HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES ON THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 55,445. UPDATED 3/1/11 *CN THE CONSUMER HAS SINCE SOLD THE VEHICLE. UPDATE 03/03/11
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC SIERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH AND ENTERING A CAR PORT AT HER RESIDENCE WHEN THE BRAKES FAILED AND SHE CRASHED INTO THE FRONT CORNER OF HER HOUSE. NO ONE WAS INJURED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL PRIOR OR AFTER THE FAILURE. THE POLICE WERE NOT CALLED TO THE SCENE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED BY A DEALER NOR HAD IT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 35,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC SIERRA 2500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND FELT THE BRAKE PEDAL FALL DOWN TO THE FLOOR BOARD. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE ONTO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT NOTICED FLUID SQUIRTING OUT OF THE BRAKE LINE. THE CONTACT REFILLED THE MASTER CYLINDER WITH BRAKE FLUID AND DROVE THE VEHICLE HOME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIANS STATED THE FRONT AND REAR BRAKE LINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED BY THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE FRONT AND REAR BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,108.
MY HERCULES TERRA TRAC A/T 245 70 16 ARE SHREDDING NEAR THE SIDEWALL. THE 17 INCH VERSION OF MY TIRES WERE RECALLED BUT THE 16 INCH WAS NEVER RECALLED. HERCULES DEALER REFUSED TO REPLACE TIRE SAYING THAT I POSSIBLY HIT A CURB. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC SIERRA DENALI. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO STOP, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE BRAKE PEDAL EXTENDED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND ALSO NOTICED THAT BRAKE FLUID WAS LEAKING ON THE DRIVER SIDE. THE CONTACT LATER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DISCOVERED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 75,000.
I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE FRONT WHEEL ABS SPEED SENSORS AND RELATED PARTS TWICE ON MY 2002 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE FIRST TIME WAS IN 2006, THE SECOND JUST THIS WEEK. THE TRUCK HAS JUST OVER 86000 MILES. THE ABS ENGAGED BELOW 10 MPH. I ALMOST HIT OTHER CARS OR OBJECTS SEVERAL TIMES WHEN THIS OCCURRED. SPEED SENSORS WERE CORRODED. HUB BEARINGS WERE ALSO REPLACED DUE TO SPEED RING FAULTS. IT HAS COST ME OVER $1500 BOTH TIMES TO HAVE THIS WORK DONE TO MAKE MY TRUCK SAFE TO DRIVE. MY REQUEST FOR WARRANTY COVERAGE WAS DENIED. *TR
ABS IS ACTIVATING AT LOW SPEEDS UNDER 10MPH WHEN STOPPING WITHOUT ABS LIGHT COMING ON. *TR
2002 GMC SIERRA BRAKE LINE BLEW, FOLLOW UP SHOWS MASSIVE RUST INCLUDING PARTS OF FRAME - SO BAD THAT BRAKE BLEEDERS ON ROTORS ARE A PILE OF RUST, CANNOT BE OPENED. ALL BRAKE LINE FITTINGS RUSTED BEYOND REMOVAL WITH A WRENCH, THEREFORE REPAIR SHOP COULD NOT PROVIDE A REMEDY. 27,000 MILES. *TR

BACKING UP TO MY TRAILER WHEN MY BRAKE LINES BLEW OUT ON MY 2002 GMC SIERRA 2500 HD. ALSO UNDERNEATH OF TRUCK IS SOO RUSTED AND BOTTOM OF DOORS ARE ALSO RUSTING THROUGH. *TR
I WAS PARKED IN A FRIENDS DRIVEWAY AND WAS ABOUT TO LEAVE WHEN I RELEASED THE PARKING BRAKE STEPPED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND PUT MY 2002 GMC 2500HD TRUCK INTO GEAR. I STARTED DRIVING DOWN THE STREET AND APPROACHED A STOP SIGN, WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES THE PEDAL WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR. I PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND OPENED THE HOOD WHEN I NOTICED BRAKE FLUID ALL OVER THE FRAME IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION I FOUND ALL THE BRAKE LINES TO BE SEVERELY RUSTED AND AT LEAST ONE OF THEM RUPTURED. I WAS DRIVING WITH MY 9 MONTH OLD SON AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT AND THANK GOD NOBODY WAS COMING THE OTHER WAY DOWN THE ROAD. I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO MY HOME WHERE IT SITS AWAITING A TOTAL BRAKE LINE REPLACEMENT. THE UNDERNEATH OF THE TRUCK IS SO SEVERELY RUSTED I THINK GMC IS LIABLE AND SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *TR
I HAVE A GMC 2500HD 4X4 WITH THE 8.1 LITER ENGINE IN THE PAST YEAR IT HAS STALLED AND THEN RESTARTED ITSELF 5 OR 6 TIMES ONE TIME I HAD TO SIT FOR ABOUT 6 MINUTES BEFORE IT WOULD RESTART. *TR
MOMENTS AFTER LEAVING THE DRIVEWAY AT OUR HOME, APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION AT ABOUT 25 MPH, I APPLIED THE BRAKES ON MY 2002 GMC SIERRA, AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I COULDN'T STOP THE VEHICLE BEFORE GOING THROUGH THE INTERSECTION. FORTUNATELY NO OTHER VEHICLES WERE IN THE INTERSECTION AND NO ACCIDENT OCCURRED. AFTER RETURNING THE VEHICLE TO THE DRIVEWAY I DISCOVERED BRAKE FLUID UNDER THE TRUCK BED AND DRIPPING FROM THE FRAME.I COULD NOT SEE THE SOURCE OF THE LEAK AS IT WAS WELL HIDDEN EITHER IN OR ABOVE THE TRUCK FRAME. I HAD THE VEHICLE BROUGHT BY FLAT BED TRUCK TO A LOCAL AUTO REPAIR GARAGE. THE MECHANICS FOUND THE BRAKE LINES TO BE HEAVILY RUSTED AND ONE HAD RUSTED THROUGH AND FAILED, CAUSING THE EARLIER BRAKE FAILURE. BECAUSE THE BRAKE LINE RUSTING WAS SO HEAVY, ALL THE BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACED. ALSO,, THE TWO FRONT BRAKE CALIPERS WERE REPLACED BECAUSE OF HEAVY RUST. THE RUSTED BRAKE LINES ARE AVAILABLE. THE CONSEQUENCES OF THIS WAS A REPAIR BILL OF $1149.78, AND HAVING MY TRUCK IN THE SHOP FOR SEVERAL DAYS. LUCKILY, NOBODY WAS HURT. IF THIS HAD OCCURRED LATER IN THE DAY IN THE SAME LOCATION IT MAY NOT HAVE TURNED OUT THE SAME. THIS IS THE THIRD MAJOR BRAKE REPAIR DONE ON THIS TRUCK. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER. I HAVE HAD TO HAVE THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS REPLACED TWICE. BOTH TIMES I WAS TOLD THE ROTORS WERE SO BADLY RUSTED THEY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. DURING THE FIRST SIX YEARS OF OWNING THE VEHICLE IT WAS KEPT IN A GARAGE. IT HAS ALWAYS BEEN WELL TAKEN CARE OF. WITH THIS REPAIR, I HAVE SPENT OVER $3000. TO KEEP BRAKES FUNCTIONING ON THIS TRUCK. *TR
RUPTURED CORRODED BRAKE LINES, ON MY 2002 GMC 1500 HD 4X4 PICK-UP. THE CONDITION CAUSED ME TO LOSE COMPLETE BRAKING POWER TO MY TRUCK, LUCKILY NO ONE WAS HURT. *TR
ABS SENSOR ACTIVATION AT SLOW SPEED. THE TRUCK DOES NOT STOP NORMALLY WHEN BRAKES APPLIED AT SLOW SPEED. THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT BY GM AND NHTSA. RECALLS HAVE BEEN DONE BUT NOT IN MY STATE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND THE RECALL NEEDS TO BE EXPANDED TO ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES. DESPITE GM SAYING THAT THIS ISSUE IS LIMITED TO 20 STATES AND CANADA, THIS IS NOT TRUE. A SEARCH OF THE INTERNET HAS SHOWN THIS DEFECT IS NATIONWIDE. ABS WAS ADDED TO VEHICLES TO HELP PREVENT CRASHES. THIS DEFECT CAUSES THEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC SIERRA 2500. THE CONTACT WAS TOWING A TRAILER AND BRAKING FROM 20 MPH WHEN THE BRAKES DID NOT ENGAGE. THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE BY USING THE TRAILER BRAKES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE BRAKE LINES WERE CORRODED AND FAILED. THE BRAKE LINES WERE REPLACED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 96,000.
EVERYTIME THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED AND THE VEHICLE SLOWS DOWN TO UNDER 10 MPH, THE VEHICLES ABS SYSTEM KICKS ON. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THIS HAS BEEN RECALLED ON MANY GMC MODELS BUT NOT THE SIERRA DENALI I HAVE. I HAVE ALSO FOUND THAT MANY OTHERS WITH SIERRA DENALIS HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE AND IT GREATLY INCREASES STOPPING DISTANCE. FURTHER RESEARCH INTO THE ISSUE HAS LED ME TO BELIEVE THIS COULD BE CAUSED BY A FAULTY SPEED SENSOR DUE TO THE ABS KICKING IN WHILE STOPPING AT LOW SPEED. *TR
FRAME IS COMPLETELY ROTTED & ANY SERVICE STATION I TAKE MY TRUCK TO FOR SERVICE OR INSPECTION REFUSES TO WORK ON MY TRUCK DUE TO SAFETY FROM ACCELERATED FRAME RUST & ROT. I FOUND UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION THAT GM REFUSES TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I NOW HAVE A VEHICLE THAT IS NOT ROAD WORTHY & UNSAFE EVEN THOU IT HAS LOW MILES & IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, I AM UNABLE TO GET A STATE INSPECTION ON THIS VEHICLE & I AM NOT ABLE TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE IN MY STATE DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. *KB

BRAKE LINES ARE RUSTED OUT BADLY AND ONE REAR LEFT LINE ROTTED THROUGH AND BEGAN TO LEAK. WHEN THE BRAKE LINES WERE INSPECTED ALL THE BRAKE LINES WERE FOUND TO BE SEVERELY RUSTED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC SIERRA 2500. THE CONTACT STATED HE NOTICED AN UNUSUAL FLUID ON THE GROUND UNDER THE VEHICLE. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, THE CONTACT FOUND THAT THE TRANSMISSION FLUID LINE COOLER METAL CLIP WAS CORRODED. THE CONTACT STATED THE CORROSION PENETRATED THE TRANSMISSION LINE AND CAUSED THE FLUID LEAK. THE DEALER ADVISED HAVING THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH ANY REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 52,000.
BRAKE LINE FAILURE ON MY 2002 GMC SIERRA 1500 1/2 TON 4WD PICKUP. BRAKE LINE FAILED BECAUSE OF RUST. MY TRUCK HAS ONLY 47000 MILES ON IT AND WELL CARED FOR. WHEN IT HAPPENED I WAS TURNING INTO A PARKING LOT AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR ALMOST HIT STREET SIGN. I HAD TO GET THE TRUCK TOWED. THE GARAGE HAD TO REPLACE ALL BRAKE LINES,FRONT HOSES AND CALIPERS BECAUSE OF RUST.THE TOTAL BILL CAME TO $1030 INCLUDING THE TOW. THE GARAGE TOLD ME THEY HAVE TO REPLACE THESE BRAKE LINE ON THESE EARLY 2000S GM TRUCK ALL THE TIME. THERE HAS TO BE A RECALL ON THESE TRUCK BECAUSE YOU HAVE NO WARNING WHEN THIS HAPPENS. MY HUSBAND WAS LEAVING OUR NEIGHBORHOOD IN THE MORNING WITH MY KIDS IN THE TRUCK. HE GOT TO THE END OF OUR STREET TO STOP AND PULL OUT ONTO VERY BUSY ROAD, BUT THE TRUCK FAILED TO STOP. HE ENDED UP HAVING TO HIT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, BUT LUCKILY HE WAS NOT HIT, NOR DID HE HIT ANYTHING. WE FOUND THAT THE BRAKE LINES TO THE BACK BRAKES WERE RUSTED THROUGH. *TR
2002 GMC SIERRA, 84,000 MILES. DRIVER'S SIDE REAR METAL BRAKE LINE BLEW WHEN LEAVING A GARAGE AND I HAD TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP. IF IT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED A MINUTE LATER, I WOULD HAVE BEEN GOING DOWN A STEEP HILL INTO RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, POTENTIALLY HURTING OR KILLING OTHERS OR MYSELF. THIS HAPPENED WITHOUT WARNING. MECHANIC SAYS ALL LINES SHOULD BE REPLACED DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUST. I DO LIVE IN PA, BUT I HAVE NEVER HAD A BRAKE LINE RUPTURE DUE TO RUST IN A NOT SO OLD CAR OR TRUCK. REGARDLESS OF THE COST TO FIX, THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND COMPLETELY UNSAFE. THERE ARE MANY OTHERS THAT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM, AND MANY MORE WHO ARE NOT EVEN AWARE OF THE TIME-BOMB THEY ARE DRIVING. *TR
ABS SENSOR IN HUB FAILED THIS IS THE FIRST OF FOUR FAILURES OF THIS PART ON MY VEHICLE. EACH FAILURE COST BETWEEN $450 TO $600 EACH TO REPAIR. *TR
THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF AFTER IT WARMS UP. THIS CAN HAPPEN AT ANY TIME AND ANY SPEED. AFTER WAITING APPROX. 2 MINUTES IT WILL START AGAIN AND RUN FINE FOR THE REST OF THE DAY. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS OR DIAGNOSTIC CODES ARE AVAILABLE. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE 2001 MODELS (CAMPAIGN ID # 07V521000). THIS PROBLEM ALSO EXTENDS INTO NEWER MODEL YEARS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKES, THERE WAS A LOSS OF 80-90 PERCENT BRAKING POWER. THE ABS SYSTEM INDEPENDENTLY ENGAGED AND WOULD NOT DISENGAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS CAREFULLY DRIVEN HOME. THE ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS WERE REPLACED AND THE WHEEL CYLINDERS WERE BLED BY THE CONTACT. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT DISCONNECTED THE ABS FUSE AND THE FAILURE DID NOT RECUR. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 94,000.

THE TRUCK WAS LOOKED AT THEN WHEN THERE WAS NO PROBLEMS BUT WHEN THE PROBLEM IS HAPPENING NOW GM SAYS THAT IT IS ONLY A ONE TIME RECALL. THE DEALER LOOKED AT THE TRUCK AND SAID THE HUB WAS WORN AND NEEDED REPLACED FOR $500 PER SIDE. WHEN I QUESTIONED THE SERVICE REP IF THE BEARING WAS WORN HE SAID NO. I THEN ASKED WHAT WAS WORN SINCE THE HUB IS THE BEARING. HE SAID I DID NOT HAVE TO HAVE IT REPAIRED IF I DID NOT WANT TO. I EXPLAINED THAT I WANTED THE RECALL WORK DONE WHICH WAS CLEANING THE RUST FROM THE SENSOR. I ALSO STATED THAT THERE ARE MAGNETS ON THE HUB THAT PASS THE SENSOR CREATING AN ELECTRICAL IMPULSE SO IF THE BEARING WAS NOT WORN ARE THE MAGNETS WORN? HE SAID THE HUB WAS BAD AND NEEDED REPLACED. I DECLINED THE WORK. I COMPLAINED TO GM AND THEY SAID THAT I WAS TOLD IT WAS A BAD SENSOR AND DECLINED THE WORK OR FURTHER DIAGNOSIS. THAT WAS A LIE. I THEN DID THE RECALL PROCEDURE OF REMOVING THE SENSOR AND CLEANING THE RUST AWAY. THERE IS ALSO NO BEARING PLAY SO THE HUB IS NOT WORN. THE BRAKES NOW WORK FINE. SO A COUPLE OF THINGS HERE. IF THERE IS A SAFETY RECALL AND IT COMES BACK AS THIS DID SHOULD THEY HAVE DONE THIS WORK. SECOND THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT JOE BALL GMC IS RUNNING A SCAM AND MAKING MONEY ON PEOPLE THAT DO NOT KNOW BETTER. *TR
NEITHER THE LEFT NOR RIGHT CARGO GATE LATCH BOLTS FAILED TO ENGAGE WHEN THE GATE WAS IN THE FULL UPRIGHT POSITION AND WHERE IT SHOULD HAVE LATCHED. THIS ALLOWED THE GATE TO FALL OPEN WHEN ACCELERATING. LUBRICATION WITH A SILICONE WAX SPRAY DID NOT SEEM TO FREE THE BOLTS. REPEATED LIFTING OF THE CENTER HANDLE ON THE GATE FOLLOWED BY QUICK RELEASE DID NOT RESULT IN THE LATCH BOLTS ENGAGING AND THE HANDLE SUBSEQUENTLY BROKE WITH MINIMAL EFFORT. ONCE THE HANDLE WAS REMOVED, CONTACT POINTS ON THE REMAINING HANDLE HARDWARE AND LATCH BOLTS THEN ALLOWED FREE MOVEMENT OF THE LATCH BOLTS. THE HANDLE HAS NOT BEEN REPLACED BUT THE LATCHES ON THE GATE ARE EASILY OPENED BY PULLING BOTH CABLES TOWARDS THE MIDDLE. CONTACT SURFACES SHOW LITTLE OR NO CORROSION OR DEBRIS. THE GATE WAS ALWAYS TESTED FOR CLOSURE AND IT IS SUSPECTED THAT THE LATCH BOLTS WERE ONLY PARTIALLY CLOSING AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. THE GATE HAD BEEN FOUND OPEN AND ITEMS LOST IN THE PAST BUT IT HAD BEEN THOUGHT THE GATE HAD JUST BEEN LEFT OPEN RATHER HAVING BEEN CLOSED FOLLOWED BY FALLING OPEN AFTER LATCH FAILURE. *TR
1. BRAKES WERE FULLY OPERATIONAL AFTER THE INITIAL RECALL WAS COMPLETED (10/13/05). RECENTLY, JANUARY 2010, MY ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM HAS TRIGGERED AT LOW SPEEDS UNDER 10 MPH CAUSING MY TRUCK TO NOT COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEMS I WAS HAVING PRIOR TO THE INITIAL RECALL. RELEASING THE BRAKES AND REAPPLYING THE BRAKES HAVE WORKED TO STOP THE VEHICLE SO FAR. 2. THE FAILURE HAPPENS ABOUT 1 IN 5 STOPS DEPENDING ON THE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE. I HAVE NEARLY HIT SEVERAL CARS IN PARKING LOTS, BECAUSE OF THE SLOW SPEED DURING PARKING. 3. GM HAD A RECALL 4 YEARS AGO ON THE WHEEL SPEED SENSOR (05V379000) ALL THEY DID WAS CLEAN AND LUBRICATE THE UNIT. NOT ADEQUATE ENOUGH, SINCE I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM OVER AGAIN. *TR
I WAS PLOWING SNOW ON THE COMMON DRIVEWAY THAT I SHARE WITH 3 OTHER NEIGHBORS AND CAME AROUND A BEND TO MEET MY NEIGHBOR'S SON ON HIS ATV. I SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. FORTUNATELY THE PILE OF SNOW IN FRONT OF THE PLOW HELPED STOP MY TRUCK. THE ATV OPERATOR DODGED IN TO THE SNOW BANK. THERE WAS NO CONTACT. I FOUND THAT I HAD MULTIPLE BRAKELINE FAILURES ON MY TRUCK. I HAVE HAD A PREVIOUS BRAKE LINE FAILURE IN 2008 BUT COULD NOT FIND THE WORK ORDER FOR REPAIRS TO VERIFY DATE AND MILEAGE. *TR
DEAR SIR, I HAVE A 2002 GMC PICKUP THAT HAS HAD THE SPARE TIRE FALL OUT OF ITS MOUNT DUE TO SEVERE RUST OF THE FRAME. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION MY FRAME HAS SEVERE RUST IN SEVERAL OTHER AREAS. I HAVE CONTACTED GMC AND WAS BASICALLY TOLD TO HAVE A NICE DAY! I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW AND IT HAS 57,000 MILES TOTAL. MY BODY SHOP TELLS ME THAT THE ONLY WAY TO REPAIR THIS FRAME IS TO REPLACE IT! I FIND IT APPALLING THAT GMC SELLS A $40,000.00 VEHICLE THAT HAS A LIFE CYCLE OF 8 YEARS.
