I DRIVE A 2003 GMC SIERRA AND THERE IS A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM IT MAKES THE DRIVING VERY DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY AT HIGHWAY. SPEED. THE VEHICLE CANNOT STAY STRAIT IT EITHER PULLS TO THE LEFT OR TO THE RIGHT. THE FEEL OF THE VEHICLE ISN'T RIGHT LIKE IF ITS DOG TRACKING. THERE ARE CLONKING AND TICKING SOUNDS COMING FROM THE TRANSMISSION JUST FROM SHIFTING FROM DRIVE TO REVERSE,REVERSE TO DRIVE...PARK. WHILE DRIVING WHEN ENGAGING THE PASSING GEAR SOMETIMES YOU HEAR THAT CLONKING SOUND LIKE IF THERE WAS A SLACK IN THE TRANSMISSION. I HAD THIS VEHICLE SINCE JULY 2004 AND SINCE THEN I'VE BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP A NUMBER OF TIMES EVERYTIME THEY SAID THAT EVERYTHING WAS OK AND SHOWED ME PAPERWORK STATING FROM GM CANADA THAT CLONKING, TICKING ETC. ETC. WERE NORMAL OPERATION OF THE TRANSMISSION. IT CANT BE CAUSE I HAD A 2001 GMC TRUCK WHICH I TRADED FOR, THAT DROVE LIKE A TRUCK THIS ONE I HAVE NOW DRIVES LIKE A TANK. EVERY HOLE OR CRACK IN THE ROAD I CAN FEEL WHEN I HIT A SMALL HOLE OR A DIP IN THE PAVE THE VEHICLE WANTS TO DOG TRACK MOST OF THE TIME THE TRUCK PULLS TO THE LEFT, WHEN IT DOES THERE IS A SLIGHT VIBRATION YOU CAN FEEL FROM THE ACCELERATOR OR THE BRAKE. THIS VEHICLE I FIND IS A ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. ITS A BIG VEHICLE AND TO SWERVE SIDE TO SIDE SCARES OTHER VEHICLES ON THE HIGHWAY, WHICH PUTS EVERYBODY AT RISK EVERYTIME I'M ON THE ROAD. FROM ALL THESE COMPLAINTS I DID TO GM STILL TODAY THEY TELL ME AND SHOW ME PAPERWORK FROM GM TECH LINE. STATING THAT EVERYTHING IS NORMAL AND NO WORK FROM THERE PART SHOULD BE DONE ON THIS TRUCK. IT'S LIKE IF GM HAS PEOPLE WORKING ON THESE STATEMENTS JUST TO COVER THEMSELVES FROM HAVING TO REPAIR OR CHANGE PARTS IN ORDER TO SAVE MONEY IN WHICH I WOULDN'T DOUGHT. IF YOU CAN HELP ME PLEASE. LET ME KNOW CAUSE THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS MATTER WHICH I WOULD LIKE TO FIX BEFORE I GET INTO AN ACCIDENT. I BELIEVE THERE IS A CONTROVERSY INTO ALL OF THIS. *NM
OIL LEAK AT REAR OF THE ENGINE. THE DEALEARSHIP REPLACED THE INTAKE MANIGOLD GASGETTWICE, AND REPLACED THE VALVE COVER GASGET, TWICE. THE TRUCK HAS BEEN TAKEN INTO THE DEALERSHIP FIVE TIMES FOR THIS PROBLEM.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 35 TO 40 MPH THE FOUR-WHEELER WHICH WAS ON THE BED OF THE VEHICLE FELL OFF. CONSUMER PULLED OFF THE ROAD TO INSPECT THE DAMAGE, AND NOTICED THAT BOTH TAILGATE CABLES SNAPPED OFF, WHICH CAUSED THE TAILGATE TO FAIL. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE AND THE FOUR-WHEELER TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION; HOWEVER, THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT INSPECT THE VEHICLE.*AK
I HAVE A 2003 GMC SIERRA 1500. AT 1300 MILES, I LOST A FITTING THAT CONNECTS THE TRANSMISSION LINE TO THE RADIATOR FOR THE TRANNY COOLER AND THE TRANSMISSION WAS DESTROYED. A REBUILT TRANSMISSION WAS PUT IN MY PICKUP. I NOW HAVE 32000 MILES ON IT AND THE TRANSMISSION SEEMS TO "DOUBLE" SHIFT BETWEEN 2ND AND 3RD GEAR. I'VE HAD MY TRUCK IN THE SHOP 5 TIMES TO DIAGNOSE THIS PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP CANNOT REPRODUCE/FIND THE ISSUE. THE PRESSURE CONTROL SOLENOID WAS REPLACED ABOUT 4 DAYS AGO. THE TRANSMISSION IS STILL ACTING UP.
REFUND REQUEST FOR THE PURCHASE OF MICHELIN TIRE EQUIPMENT THAT REPLACED THE VEHICLE'S ORIGINAL STEEL TEX TIRES. *MR THE CONSUMER WAS CONCERNED WHEN HE FOUND THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH FIRESTONE STEELTEX TIRES. *SC *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC SIERRA. WHEN INSERTING THE KEY INTO THE IGNITION, THE SEAT MOVED FORWARD AND PINNED THE CONTACT TO THE DASHBOARD. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE MOTOR DRIVE SOFTWARE NEEDED TO BE UPDATED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000. UPDATED 04/06/16*LJ *TR
I PURCHASED MY 2003 GMC SIERRA Z71 IN AUG. 2003. IN DECEMBER 2003, WHILE PULLING A TRAVEL TRAILOR, THE SERVICE 4-WD LIGHT CAME ON AND THE TRUCK FELT AS IF IT HAD BEEN SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL.I MANAGED TO GET THE TRUCK TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND READ THE OWNERS MANUAL CONCERNING THE LIGHT. I TURNED THE TRUCK OFF AS THE BOOK SAID AND THEN RESTARTED. THE LIGHT STAYED ON, BUT THE TRUCK DID GO IN GEAR. SINCE THIS TIME, WHEN I PULL THE TRAILOR FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME, THE TRUCK WILL AGAIN FEEL AS IF IT IS IN NEUTRAL. I HAVE TO PUT THE TRUCK INTO 2ND OR 1ST GEAR TO GET THE TRANSMISSION TO ENGAGE. THE 4WD LIGHT COMES ON WITH OR WITHOUT THE TRAILOR HOOKED UP AND HAS BEEN CHECKED SEVERAL TIMES BY THE DEALER. THEY HAVE REPLACED THE SWITCH BUT THIS HAS NOT CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS SO HARD IT FEELS AS IF THE BACK END OF THE TRUCK WILL FALL OUT. I WAS TOLD THIS IS NORMAL OPERATION. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM AS THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. NO ONE CAN FEEL COMFORTABLE DRIVING DOWN A ROAD AND NEVER KNOWING IF YOU WILL BE HIT FROM BEHIND DUE TO THIS TRUCK STALLING FOR NO REASON. *AK
2003 GMC SIERRA 2500HD CREW CAB CLOTH SPLIT BENCH: THE SHOULDER HARNESS SEATBELTS ON ALL THREE PASSENGER SEATS WILL LOCK UP DURING NORMAL CRUISE (NO SUDDEN STOPS OR YANKS ON THE BELTS), AND WILL CONTINUE TO GET TIGHTER AND TIGHTER UNTIL THE OCCUPANT MUST UNBUCKLE THE SEATBELT AND LET IT COMPLETELY RETRACT BEFORE IT CAN BE RE-BUCKLED. THIS WILL OCCUR ON NEARLY EVERY TRIP IN THE VEHICLE, AND HAS OCCURRED SINCE IT WAS NEW. THIS IS MORE THAN AN ANNOYANCE, IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD SINCE THE PASSENGERS MUST UNBUCKLE THEIR SEAT BELTS IN A MOVING VEHICLE. THE DEALER (JIM WALDRON GMC, DAVISON MI) CLAIMS IT IS SIMPLY A DESIGN FLAW AND THEY CAN DO NOTHING TO CORRECT IT. THEY SAY THAT "EVERYONE" WITH A 2003 SIERRA IS COMPLAINING ABOUT IT. THIS PROBLEM NEVER OCCURS ON THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT. I AM SERIOUSLY CONCERNED FOR THE SAFETY OF MY PASSENGERS IN THIS VEHICLE THAT IS DESIGNED TO CARRY MANY PASSENGERS.*AK
THE STEERING COLUMN EXPERIENCED A CRACKING NOISE WHILE DRIVING 1-25 MPH, AND WHILE MAKING TURNS. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO REPACKED THE STEERING COLUMN WITH GREASE. AFTER 22,000 MILES THE PROBLEM RECURRED. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THE STEERING SHAFT WAS TOO SHORT, AND THEY NEEDED TO ORDER A NEW SHAFT. CONSUMER WAS WAITING FOR THE PART.*AK......CONSUMER CLAIMED THAT IF THIS SHORT SHAFT IS WORKING UP AND DOWN, CONNECTED TO STEERING BOX, THEN TO TIE RODS, MEANS EVERYTHING IS MOVING. CONSUMER WA SCONCERNED THAT THIS WAS A SAFETY ISSUE. *AK
STEERING ASSEMBLY KNOCKS, CLUNKS, RATTLES, CAN FEEL IN THE STEERING WHEEL AND CAN HEAR AUDIBLY, ESPECIALLY AT SPEEDS UNDER 30MPH. FEELS DANGEROUS.*AK
2003 GMC SIERRA MANUAL TRANSMISSION - SLOP OR CLUNK IN DRIVE TRAIN.. *AK
DT: THE CONTACT STATES THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN 05V379000 REGARDING THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES. THE VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL; HOWEVER, IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN. VEHICLE HAS BEEN REPAIRED, BUT IT STILL HAD THE SAME PROBLEMS. *AK
2003 GMC 2500HD DURMAX TRUCK. WHEN YOU APPLY BRAKES HARD THE STEERING LOCKS UP AND YOU CAN'T TURN. GM SAYS THIS IS STANDARD OPERATING FOR THIS TRUCK. THIS TRUCK HAS ABS. ABS GIVES YOU THE ABILITY TO STEER WHILE BREAKING. THIS IS HARD TO DO WHEN STEERING LOCKS UP. GM HAS SAID THERE IS NO PROBLEM. THERE ARE 3 OTHER TRUCKS ALL GMC OR CHEVY IN MY TOWN WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. ALL OF US HAVE GOTTEN THE SAME RESPONCE FROM GM. CALL BBB DONT CALL US.*AK
PASSENGER'S SIDE REAR SUSPENSION VIBRATED WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED, RESULTING IN THE PASSENGER SIDE TIRE DEVELOPING BULGES. PASSENGER'S SIDE TIRE WAS REPLACED, AND THE OTHER TIRES WERE ROTATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON PASSENGER'S SIDE REAR TIRE.*AK
WHILE DRIVING, COMING TO A COMPLETE SUDDEN STOP, AND UPON DEPRESSING THE BRAKES PEDAL, THEY WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR, AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. THE CONSUMER THEN PLACED BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKES TRYING TO STOP THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED, RESULTING IN AN ACCIDENT. THE CONSUMER REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. *AK THE CONSUMER REQUESTED TO BE REIMBURSED FOR THE EXPENSES. *SC *JB
I OWN (2) 2003 GMC TRUCKS AND THEY BOTH STARTED THIS "CLUNKING" NOISE IN THE STEERING. I HAVE TAKEN BOTH OF THEM BACK TO THE DEALER TO REPAIR UNDER WARRANTY. THE FIRST TIME THEY JUST RE-LUBED THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT IN THE STEERING. THIS WORKED FOR AWHILE, BUT THE NOISE SOON RETURNED. I TOOK THEM BACK AGAIN AND THIS TIME THEY REPLACED THE SHAFT. AGAIN, THE CLUNKING NOISE HAS RETURNED AND IT IS GETTING LOUDER. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF TAKING THE TRUCKS BACK IN TO HAVE THEM LOOK AT THEM AGAIN. HOWEVER, MY WARRANTIES ARE ABOUT TO EXPIRE. IF THIS OCCURS OUT OF WARRANTY AND IT IS NOT REPAIRED AGAIN I FEEL THAT MY STEERING IS IN JEOPARDY. THE LONGER IT GOES THE LOUDER IT GETS. SOMETHING IS CAUSING THIS SHAFT TO WEAR OUT. *JB
2003 GMC 3/4 TON PICKUP. PROBLEM WITH INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT. HAVE A 1999 GMC 3/4 TON THAT THE SHAFT HAS BEEN REPLACED 6 TIMES. SON HAS A 2001 TAHOE THAT HAS HAD THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT REPLACED TWO TIMES. WHEN WILL SOMEONE MAKE THEM GET THIS FIXED IT IS A SAFETY PROBLEM.*AK
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC SIERRA 2500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A LOSS OF POWER WHILE TRAVELING AT ANY SPEED. THE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED FOR LOSS OF POWER INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT HAD TO DEPRESS THE ACCELERATION PEDAL TO THE FLOORBOARD TO ACCELERATE ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO STALL WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER MORE THAN FIVE TIMES, WHO WAS NOT ABLE TO REPLICATE OR DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD ALSO BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
2003 GMC SIERRA SLT Z71 EXTENDED CAB, 13000 MILES. TRANSMISSION SHIFTS SLOWLY AND SLIPS BETWEEN 1ST AND 2ND. DRIVETRAIN VERY VERY NOISY BETWEEN UP AND DOWN SHIFTS. KNOCKING IN STEERING WHEEL. *LA
I OWN A 2003 GMC SIERRA CREW CAB TRUCK. THE REAR SEATBELTS LOCK UP AND RESTRAIN MY ADULT PASSENGERS TO THE POINT OF DISCOMFORT. WHEN THE PASSENGERS TRY TO PULL OUT AND RELEASE THE LOCKING MECHANISM, THE SEATBELT RATCHETS EVEN TIGHTER ALLOWING NO MOVEMENT WHATSOEVER. THE SEATBELTS LOCK UP WHILE DRIVING AROUND TOWN AND MORE SO ON THE HIGHWAY DURING ROADTRIPS. THE RESULT IS THAT MY ADULT PASSENGERS REFUSE TO WEAR THESE BELTS. I HAVE HAD THESE BELTS REPLACED ONCE ALREADY. I TOOK THE OPPORTUNITY TO VISIT SEVERAL DEALERSHIPS, AND INQUIRED ABOUT THIS ISSUE. I WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH GM'S BELTS, BUT AS OF NOW ALL THE DEALERSHIPS ARE DOING IS REPLACING THE BELTS FOR CUSTOMERS, YET THE PROBLEM PERSIST. IT IS MY OPINION THAT THESE BELTS WERE DESIGNED FOR CAR SEATS NOT ADULT PASSENGERS.*AK
2003 GMC SIERRA 3/4 TON, 8.1 LITRE ENGINE WITH ALLISON TRANSMISSION-GM SAYS THEY ARE AWARE THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE DRIVESHAFT WHERE IT GOES IN TO THE REAR END. EVERY 10,000 TO 15,000 MILES IT MUST BE REMOVED AND CLEANED, GREASED AND REPLACED. THEY ARE UNWILLING TO PLACE THIS ON A RECALL LIST AND SAY IN THE FUTURE IT WILL BE A MAINTENANCE ITEM AND IT WILL BE DONE AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE EVERY 2 OR 3 OIL CHANGES. AS FOR MINE THEY WILL DO IT FOR A SHORT TIME LONGER AND THEN IT WILL BE MY PROBLEM-THIS IS A DEFINITE DEFECT THEY ACKNOWLEDGE BUT REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING WITH THESE VEHICLES THAT ALREADY HAVE THIS PROBLEM, IF YOU ARE ALREADY OUT OF ORIGINAL WARRANTY AND DID NOT PURCHASE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY YOU WILL JUST HAVE TO PAY OUT OF YOUR OWN POCKET,THEM KNOWING FULLY ABOUT THE PROBLEM. *JB
STEERING PROBLEMS ON MY 2003 GMC SIERRA 1500HD. IT MAKES A "CLUNK" SOUND WHEN TURNING. IT HAS BEEN TO THE SHOP 4 TIMES. THE LAST TIME THEY INSTALLED AN RE-ENGINEERED STEERING COLUMN, BUT PROBLEMS STILL PERSISTS. *AK
WHEN USING FEATURE "FLY BY WIRE THROTTLE" THE ACCELERATOR CANNOT BE CONTROLLED.*MR WHEN ENCOUNTERING ANYTHING MORE THAN THE SLIGHTEST BUMP OR VARIATION IN THE ROAD OR ON THE HIGHWAY, IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO KEEP CONSTANT PRESSURE ON THE ACCELERATOR. WHEN THE VEHICLE WENT OVER A BUMP ETC. ACTION WAS UNABLE TO BE CONTROLLED AND THE ACCELERATOR WAS SEVERELY DEPRESSED WHICH CAUSED AN INCREASE IN SPEED AND THEN A VOLUNTARY RELEASE OF THE ACCELERATOR, EVEN WHEN THE CONSUMER KNEW HE WAS APPROACHING A BUMP, HE WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL THE ACCELERATOR. *TS *JB
TRANSMISSION HAS "CLUNKING" NOISE WHEN VEHICLE SHIFTS FROM SECOND TO THIRD GEAR WHEN STARTING AND DOWN SHIFTING WHEN STOPPING. THE NOISE STARTED AT APPROXIMATELY 4000 MILES AND CONTINUES TO PROGRESSIVELY GET LOUDER AS THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO BE DRIVEN. THE TRANSMISSION HAS NOT FAILED TO OPERATE AT THIS TIME BUT EXPECT IT TO FAIL SOMETIME IN THE NEAR FUTURE. *JB
2003 GMC SIERRA CREWCAB 4X4 LONG BED 8.0LT. (1) I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM THAT WHEN I AM AT IDLE, STOPPED OR SITTING WITH MY FOOT OFF THE BREAKS I CAN HARDLY TURN THE WHEEL. ONLY WHEN I MOVE THE VEHICLE SOME CAN I THEN TURN THE WHEEL AND STILL IT CAN BE DIFFICULT. (2) THE DEALER HAS REPLACED THE HYDROBOOST SYSTEM IN AN EFFORT TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. I HAVE BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALER TWICE FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AND BOTH TIMES WHEN I PICKED IT UP IT STILL HAD THE SAME PROBLEM SITTING RIGHT THERE IN THE DEALERSHIP. (3) THIS PROBLEM I BELIEVE IS IN THE POWER STEERING PUMP NOT HAVING SUFFICIENT FLOW TO HANDLE THE FRICTION THE TIRES CREATE AT STOPPED OR SLOW MOVEMENT. MAYBE A HIGHER FLOW UPGRADE PUMP IS IN ORDER HERE BUT THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME NOT TO BRING IT BACK ANYMORE FOR THIS AS THERE IS A REMEDY COMING OUT SOON. I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR A YEAR NOW WITH THE PROBLEM GETTING WORSE AND NO RECALL BEING ISSUED. *NM
THE PASSENGER SIDE CLIMATE CONTROL WOULD RECEIVE AN IMPROPER VOLTAGE READING. THE SYSTEM WOULD TURN TO ITS PRESET DEFAULT SETTINGS. (ON FULL HEAT) IT WAS THEN NECESSARY TO STOP THE VEHICLE, TURN OFF THE IGNITION SYSTEM. THIS WILL ALLOW THE CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM TO RESET ITS SELF. THIS HAPPENED ONLY ONE TIME PER DAY. (NOT ALWAYS AT THE START OF THE DAY.) TROUBLESHOOTING THIS SYSTEM WAS A TIME CONSUMING PROCESS. (5 TRIPS TO THE SHOP JUST FOR THIS) TO FIX THIS THE PASSENGER SIDE CLIMATE CONTROL SYSTEM WAS REPLACED. (THIS REQUIRED 4 DAYS) TOTAL TIME TO TROUBLESHOOT AND REPAIR WAS 4 WEEKS.*AK
I HAVE A 2003 GMC SIERRA 2500HD. THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE WORKS INTERMITTENTLY. ACCORDING TO GMC DOCUMENT ID#1400441 THERE IS NO FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM NOW. HOWEVER, THEY ARE WORKING ON THE PROBLEM AND AS SOON AS A FIX IS AVAILABLE THEY WILL MAKE THE REPAIRS IN THE TRUCKS. THIS PROBLEM APPLIES TO 2003 AND 2004 K SERIES. THESE TRUCKS ARE NOT ONLY USED PERSONAL BUT IN SOME CASES, ALSO IN EMERGENCY RESCUE AND FIRE SERVICES WHERE THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE MAY BE NEEDED TO GAIN ACCESS TO PATIENTS. POOR THROTTLE RESPONSE. DRIVE BY WIRE THROTTLE. ENGINE HAS NO RESPONSE UNTIL 2000 PLUS RPMS. OUR 1999 YUKON,AND PREVIOUSLY OWNED 1996 SIERRA RESPONDED IMMEDIATLY TO THROTTLE INPUT,UNLIKE OUR NEW GMC. AS THE CORVETTE HAS A DRIVE BY WIRE SYSTEM,THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN SORTED OUT LONG AGO. I HAVE A 2003 GMC SIERRA SLT EXT. CAB Z71 (4X4), THE 4-WHEEL DRIVE IS NOT WORKING, NO LIGHTS SHOW UP ON THE BUTTONS. THE DEALER HAS ATTEMPTED TO REPLACE THE 4WD SWITCH, THIS DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM, THEY STILL HAVE THE TRUCK. THE TRUCK IS LESS THAN A YEAR OLD AND HAS 20,700MI. THERE ARE SERVICE BULLITENS FOR THE PROBLEM, BUT THERE IS NO PERMANENT FIX. WHY SELL A 4WD PRODUCT IF THE 4WD WILL NOT WORK?
2003 GMC SIERRA TRUCK, STEERING, HAS A CLUNKING NOISE STARTED ABOUT 5,000 MILES, TOLD BY MECHANIC TO TAKE TO A DEALER, WAS NOT THE FIRST TIME HE HAD HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM AND WAS NOT SOMETHING HE WANTED TO UNDERTAKE DUE TO LIABILITY, ANOTHER PROBLEM WITH TO MUCH PLAY OR (SLAP) IN THE DRIVE SHAFT, TOOK IT TO DEALER THEY REPLACED DRIVE SHAFT, DID NOT SOLVE PROBLEM , SO APPARENTLY THEY DID NOT KNOW HOW TO SOLVE PROBLEM AND BASICALLY WERE GRABBING AT STRAWS, I STILL HAVE PROBLEM, FRONT RUNNING LIGHTS KEEP BURNING OUT (ELECTRICAL PROBLEM). *TR

MY COMPLAINT IS GENERAL, IN THAT THE AMOUNT OF "DAZZLE" FROM THE SCATTERED LIGHT IS GREATLY OBJECTIONABLE, AND MUST BE CONTROLLED. "HEAD-ON" VIEWING OS ACCEPTABLE, BUT SLIGHT OFF-ANGLE IS EXTREMELY DISTRACTING AND PAINFUL FROM THESE LAMPS. I WORK FOR A MAJOR AUTO COMPANY, AND HAVE SOME EXPERIENCE IN LIGHTING TECHNOLOGY. I WOULD PREFER IF NHTSA MIGRATE TO EUROPEAN REQUIREMENTS (CUT-OFF LINES) AND ENFORCE SOME TYPE OF ANTI-DAZZLE REQUIREMENTS FOR THESE LAMPS. WHEN AT A STOP, THE VEHICLE VIBRATED AND MADE NOISES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS NORMAL. *AK THE VEHICLE HAD A ROUGH IDLE AND MADE LOUD NOISES WHEN AIR CONDITIONER WAS ON. WHEN TURNED OFF, IT MADE A LOUDER NOISE. WHEN THE CONSUMER MADE A STOP, HE NOTICED THE TRAILER BRAKES DID NOT WORK. THE CONSUMER THEN RECEIVED A NOTICE IN THE MAIL REGARDING THE WIRING HARNESS IN WHICH GMC HAD SWITCHED TWO OF THE WIRES ON THE TRUCK AT THE FACTORY. I OWN A 2003 GMC SIERRA 1500 Z71 OFF ROAD TRUCK. I'VE HAD IT IN THE SHOP FOUR TIMES NOW DUE TO THE SAME PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM CONSISTS OF EXCESSIVE PLAY/BACKLASH IN THE REAREND/DIFFERENTIAL ACCORDING TO THE DEALER. THIS EXCESSIVE PLAY/BACKLASH IS CAUSING THE TRUCK TO JERK AFTER SHIFTING FROM FIRST TO SECOND AND SECOND TO THIRD GEARS. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER SAY THIS IS NORMAL ACCORDING TO GM SPECS. AT ONE POINT, WHILE SITTING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, I PROCEEDED TO ACCELERATE AFTER THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND THE TRUCK DIDN'T GO ANYWHERE, BUT AFTER A FEW SECONDS THE TRUCK SLAMMED INTO GEAR AND SPUN THE REAR TIRES. THIS PROBLEM SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN CORRECTED AFTER REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL SOLENOID FOR NOW, BUT THE CONSTANT JERKING OF THE REAREND/DIFFERENTIAL SEEMS TO BE WORSENING. WHEN DISCUSSING THIS PROBLEM WITH THE DEALERS SERVICE MANGER AND NOW FINALLY WITH THE GENERAL MANGER, THEY STILL SAY THIS IS NORMAL AND HAS BEEN FOR ALL 2000 THROUGH 2004 GMC SIERRA'S. THAT'S INTERESTING, BECAUSE I OWNED TWO 2000 GMC TRUCKS IN THE PAST AND NEITHER ONE OF THEM EXPERIENCED THESE PROBLEMS.

2003 GMC SIERRA 2500HD CREW CAB CLOTH SPLIT BENCH: THE SHOULDER HARNESS SEATBELTS ON ALL THREE PASSENGER SEATS WILL LOCK UP DURING NORMAL CRUISE (NO SUDDEN STOPS OR YANKS ON THE BELTS), AND WILL CONTINUE TO GET TIGHTER AND TIGHTER UNTIL THE OCCUPANT MUST UNBUCKLE THE SEATBELT AND LET IT COMPLETELY RETRACT BEFORE IT CAN BE RE-BUCKLED. *TR

ON MAY 31ST, THE REAR END DIFFERENTIAL ASSEMBLY EXPLODED SENDING THE PINON THRU THE HOUSING AND THE REAR AXLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE TRUCK WAS IN THE SHOP (PERRY CHEVEROLET, INC., COLUMBIA, MO)UNTIL 6-9-03. WHEN I ARRIVED IN BOZEMAN, MT ON 7-2-03 I WAS HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE WIRING. THERE WAS A FIRE WHEN I PLUGGED THE RV ELECTRICAL PLUG INTO THE TRUCK'S TRAILER PLUG. THERE WAS ALSO A BLOWN REAR TAIL LIGHT BULB. IN BOZMAN, THEY REPLACED THE COMPLETE WIRING HARNESS, THE TOW RECEPTACLE AND 2 FUSE KITS. IT WAS THE OPINION OF THE SHOP IN BOZEMAN (J.C.BILLION, GMC) THAT THE WIRING DAMAGE WAS PART OF THE ORIGINAL FIRE AND DIFFERENTIAL ASSEMBLY DAMAGE. ALTHOUGH GMC PAID FOR MY OUT OF POCKET EXPENSES AND FOR THE WARANTY WORK, I AM LEFT TO WONDER WHAT WILL HAPPEN NEXT AND JUST HOW SAFE AM I GOING TO BE IN THIS TRUCK? I SELECTED A TRUCK BIGGER THAN WHAT I NEEDED AT THE CURRENT TIME, THINKING THAT IF I REPLACED MY TRAVEL TRAILER IN THE FUTURE, I WOULD NOT HAVE TO TRADE TRUCKS ALSO.
ON FEBRUARY 18, 2003 I PURCHASED A NEW 2003 TRUCK THE TRUCK CAME WITH THE SERVICE LIGHT ON. WHEN DRIVING THE 4X4 WHEEL LIGHT WOULD COME ON AS IF THE TRUCK WAS IN 4 WHEEL DRIVE. THE LIGHT WOULD GO OFF AFTER STOPPING AND SHUTING THE TRUCK OFF FOR AT LEAST 15 MINUTES. I WENT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NO FIX AT THIS TIME AND THEY GAVE ME A SERVICE BULLETIN, FILE IN SECTION:4-DRIVELINE AXLE BULLETIN NO:03-04-21-001 DATE: FEBRUARY, 2003. I WAS TOLD THAT IF I WAS WORRIED ABOUT THE 4X4 ENGAGING ON ITS OWN WHILE DRIVING THE ONLY THING THEY COULD DO WAS TO DISENGAGE THE 4X4 WHEEL DRIVE AT THIS TIME.I NEED TO HAVE THE USE OF THE 4X4 WHEEL DRIVE AS I OWN A LARGE CONCRETE CONSTRUCTION COMPANY AND USE MY TRUCK ALL DAY LONG ON JOBSITES. I LEFT THE DEALER NOT KNOWING WHAT TO DO. I WAS WORRIED ABOUT DAMAGING THE 4X4 UNIT EVEN MORE ON MY NEW TRUCK. SO TWO WEEKS LATER I WAS TIRED OF WORRYING, SO I TOOK THE TRUCK BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY DISENGAGED THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE. THE SERVICE 4X4 WHEEEL LIGHT IS STILL ON AT THIS TIME. I ALSO FILED A COMPLAINT WITH GMC ON 3/27/03 #1-85090755. I HAVE NOT HEARD FRON THE DEALER IN ONE MONTH.
