TRUCK WAS ENTERING MAJOR HIGHWAY,TRAFFIC BEGINS TOO SLOW DUE TO RUSH HOUR ,SEEING THIS OCCUR I STEPPED ON BRAKES EXPECTING TO SLOW DOWN ,UNTIL I REALIZED PEDAL HAD GONE ALL THE WAY TO FLOOR,THEN I LET UP AN PUSHED TO FLOOR AGAIN-NO BRAKES NO ROOM TO GO LEFT OR RIGHT IMPACT WAS UNAVOIDABLE,IMPACTED CAR TWICE WHICH PUSHED THAT CAR INTO ANOTHER THIS TRUCK WAS SERVICED BY GM DEALER FOR TRANSMISSION COOLING LINE AND ENGINE COOLING LINES MONDAY TUESDAY AND WEDNESDAY, NO MENTION OF BRAKE LINES ISSUE, ACCIDENT OCCURRED ON FRIDAY. ALSO HAD CONTACTED GM ABOUT ORIGINAL WORK RE: POSSIBLE WARRANTY. *TR UPDATED 07/25/12 *BF THE CONSUMER HAS SINCE TRADED THE VEHICLE. UPDATED 07/31/12
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT INVESTIGATED, AND CAUSE FOUND TO BE LOSS OF FUEL TANK PRESSURE DUE TO ROTTED OUT FUEL FILLER NECK. ORIGINAL PART MADE OF NON-CORROSION RESISTANT STEEL. OTHER CORROSION PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE HAVE INVOLVED BRAKE LINES. THE FIRST LINE WAS REPLACED IN 2007, WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS ONLY 4 YEARS OLD. A MORE EXTENSIVE REPLACEMENT OF CORRODED LINES WAS DONE IN 2008 OR 2009. THESE ARE SERIOUS SAFETY AND EMISSIONS RELATED PROBLEMS, AND THESE VEHICLES SHOULD BE RECALLED AS A RESULT OF THEM. OWNERS WHO HAVE PAID FOR REPAIRS IN THE PAST SHOULD BE COMPENSATED BY A REASONABLE AMOUNT. *TR
I EXPERIENCE AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM WITH MY TRUCK THAT FLASHES AN ERROR CODE "REDUCED ENGINE POWER". THIS IS TIED TO ERROR CODE P1516. USUALLY THIS PROBLEM OCCURS IN COLDER PARTS OF THE YEAR, AND ON A COLD SOAKED ENGINE, BUT IT HAS HAPPENED OTHER TIMES AS WELL. AS SOON AS THE ERROR OCCURS THE THROTTLE SHUTS AND LEAVES THE VEHICLE WITH ONLY INERTIA TO ATTEMPT TO GET OFF THE ROAD. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME ON THE INTERSTATE, AND THOUGH I HAVE NOT HAD AN ACCIDENT YET, I DO CONSIDER IT DANGEROUS. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL DEALER AND INDEPENDENT MECHANICS, AND THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. THIS SEEMS TO BE A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM WITHOUT A SOLUTION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC SIERRA 1500. WHILE PARKED, DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND PLACED THE GEAR IN DRIVE; HOWEVER, THE BRAKE PEDAL DROPPED TO THE FLOOR BOARD. THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE DRIVER'S HOME. THE CONTACT DID NOT MENTION OF THERE WERE ANY INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A COLLISION REPAIR SHOP. THE MECHANIC STATED THE BRAKE LINES WERE SEVERALLY CORRODED AND WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS AN INVESTIGATION UNDER NHTSA ACTION NUMBER:PE10010 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:POWER ASSIST:HYDRAULIC:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS) THAT MAY BE RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,093 UPDATED 1/20/12 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY. IT WAS PARKED TOWARDS THE TOP OF THE DRIVEWAY. THE DRIVEWAY HAS A STEEP SLOPE AND SLOPES DOWN TOWARD HIS PARENTS HOUSE. THE CONSUMER'S FATHER ENTERED THE VEHICLE, STARTED THE ENGINE, RELEASED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, PUT HIS FOOT ON THE NORMAL BRAKE, AND PUT THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE. IT WAS AT THAT POINT, THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN ROLLING DOWN THE DRIVEWAY. THERE WAS APPROX 35 FEET BETWEEN THE STARTING POSITION OF THE VEHICLE AND WHERE THE VEHICLE STUCK THE FOUNDATION OF THE HOME. AT THE MOMENT OF THE BRAKE FAILURE, THE DRIVER TRIED PUMPING THE BRAKES ONE MORE TIME, AND THEN ATTEMPTED TO REACH FOR THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. AT THE TIME OF IMPACT, THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING BETWEEN 5-10 MPH. UPDATED 02/22/12
THE BRAKING SYSTEM FAILED WHEN THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. INVESTIGATION REVEALED THAT THE STEEL BRAKE LINE HAD RUSTED AND RUPTURED. THE ONLY PRECURSOR TO THIS WAS NOISE FROM THE ABS UNIT AT LOW SPEED. IT APPEARS THAT ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES ARE BADLY CORRODED AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC SIERRA. WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED STRAIGHT INTO THE FLOORBOARD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEFECT WAS A RESULT OF RUSTED BRAKE LINES. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 76,667.
ON 09-30-2011 AS I LEFT MY RESIDENCE I GOT APPROXIMATELY ONE BLOCK AWAY AND STARTED DOWN A SMALL BUT STEEP HILL THAT INTERSECTS WITH AN OTHER SUBDIVISION STREET. AT THAT INTERSECTION THERE IS A STOP SIGN, WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES TO SLOW FOR THE STOP SIGN THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I TRIED PUMPING THE BRAKES AND STILL HAD VERY LITTLE TO NO BRAKES. THERE WERE NO OTHER VEHICLE IN THE AREA, AND WAS ABLE TO GEAR DOWN AND ENDED UP SLOWING GOING INTO THE INTERSECTION WHERE I FINALLY GOT THE VEHICLE STOPPED. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE TRUCK BACK TO THE HOUSE BY GOING VERY SLOW IN LOW GEAR AND USING THE PARKING BRAKE. UPON PARKING THE TRUCK AND INSPECTING THE SYSTEM, FOUND THE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WAS LOW. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION I FOUND FLUID ON THE GROUND UNDER THE DRIVES SEAT AREA. ON CHECKING I FOUND THE BRAKE LINES IN THE AREA OF THE BRAKE CONTROLLER AREA WERE EXTREMELY RUSTED AND THE LINE GOING TO THE REAR BRAKES HAD RUSTED THROUGH. I WILL HAVE ALL THE BRAKE LINES TO AND FROM THE BRAKE CONTROLLER REPLACED THIS WEEK DUE TO THE EXTREMELY POOR CONDITION OF THE LINES FROM THE RUST. *TR
MAIN BRAKE LINE BLEW WHILE MY WIFE WAS BACKING UP IN A PARKING LOT, THE ONLY WAY TO STOP WAS TO PUT THE CAR IN PARK WHILE MOVING. WE HAD IT TOWED TO OUR LOCAL MECHANIC WHO HAD TO REPLACE EVERY BRAKE LINE. THE TRUCK ONLY HAS 68K MILES ON IT. THE MECHANIC SAID THEY WERE VERY BAD AND WE WERE LUCKY TO BE SAFE. I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED AND RECALLED BY GMC. OUR BILL WAS AN UNEXPECTED $1,300. I'M EXPECTING A CALL BACK FROM A DISTRICT GMC CONTACT MONDAY ABOUT THE ISSUE. I'M FIGHTING TO BE REIMBURSED AS THIS IS A KNOWN DEADLY ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. HOW HAVE THEY NOT BEEN SUED FROM THIS PROBLEM YET? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC SIERRA 1500. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED WHEN HE APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND DID NOT IDLE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE WITH RUSTED BRAKE LINES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE NOR WAS THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 63,000.
TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE. DISCOVERED BRAKE LINES HAD RUSTED IN SEVERAL LOCATIONS THROUGH AND ALL NEEDED AND WERE REPLACED BY DEALER. *TR
MANY COMPONENTS UNDER THE TRUCK ARE SEVERELY RUSTED. TWO BRAKE LINES FAILED IN AUGUST 2011 DUE TO RUST. THE REST ARE READY TO FAIL SOON. THE POWER STEERING LINE RUSTED OUT THIS MONTH (DECEMBER). RUST AT SENSORS OF ABS SYSTEM CAUSES ERRATIC ABS OPERATION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC 3500 DURAMAX . THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL WITHOUT WARNING. THE FUEL INJECTORS WERE REPLACED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED AND CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000 UPDATED 9/20/11 *CN UPDATED 2/23/12 *CN
TRANSFER CASE MADE A GRINDING NOISE. NOTICE CUT ON OUTSIDE OF THE CASE. *TR
FAILED COMPONENT 1: DRIVING AT SLOW SPEED, REDUCED POWER LIGHT ENERGIZED AND ENGINES GOES TO IDLE SPEED WITH NO FUEL PEDAL RESPONSE. FAILED COMPONENT #2: EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS IN CYLINDER HEADS BROKEN ON BOTH SIDES OF ENGINE, PASSENGER EXHAUST MANIFOLD CRACKED, EXHAUST IS LOUD WITH EXHAUST FUMES IN CAB. DEPENDING ON WHAT IS CAUSING THE FUEL SYSTEM FAILURE AND WHETHER THE CYLINDER HEADS HAVE TO BE REMOVED TO REMOVE THE BROKEN BOLTS, THESE REPAIRS COULD COST THOUSANDS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC SIERRA 1500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BOLTS ON THE MANIFOLD WERE FRACTURED AND CAUSED LEAKAGE THROUGH THE EXHAUST EMISSION BEFORE GOING TO THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED WHO ADVISED REPLACING THE BOLTS AND MANIFOLD. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED WHO STATED THERE WERE NO RECALLS AND OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 99,500. THE CONSUMER STATED HE FIRST HEARD A TICKING SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE. HE EVENTUALLY FOUND THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD HEADS BROKEN OFF THE BOLT SHANKS. HE THEN FOUND EVIDENCE DUE TO LEAKING OF THE EXHAUST, GAS CARBON DEPOSITS ON THE ENGINE BY THE MANIFOLD'S BROKEN BOLTS. UPDATED 10/14/11
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC SIERRA 2500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, THE BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED, BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP UNTIL COASTING INTO A TREE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DESTROYED AND HE DID NOT CONSIDER THE INCIDENT TO BE A CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE FAILURE DIAGNOSTIC TEST INDICATED THAT THE ABS SYSTEM FAILED TO OPERATE SUFFICIENTLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. BRAKES ARE SPONGY NOT RIGHT POWER STEERING WHINES AS DO BRAKES
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GENERAL MOTOR SIERRA 1500 HD. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 55 MILES PER HOUR, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT COME TO A COMPLETE STOP UNTIL THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED REPEATEDLY. THE CONTACT NOTICED THE VEHICLE WAS LEAKING BREAK FLUID WHICH LED TO THE DISCOVERY OF A RUSTING BRAKE LINE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER, AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 34,000.
ISSUE WITH THROTTLE BODY REDUCED ENGINE POWER WHEN DRIVING THROWS OUT CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THOUSAND OF PEOPLE HAVE THIS SAME ISSUE MOST HAVE JUST STOPPED DRIVING THEIR VEHICLE LIKE I HAVE BECAUSE IT'S UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I HOPING NOT JUST FOR ME BUT EVERYONE OUT THERE WITH THIS SAME ISSUE TO GET A RECALL BEFORE IT KILLS SOMEONE. I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO DRIVE MY TRUCK IN THREE YEARS. *TR
A BRAKE LINE BURST UNDERNEATH THE TRUCK WHEN I APPLIED THE BRAKES WITH SUBSTANTIAL PRESSURE (NOT ENOUGH TO ENGAGE ABS ON THE DRY PAVEMENT). WAS ABLE TO SWERVE TO AVOID VEHICLE THAT CUT US OFF AND USE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO SLOW/STOP VEHICLE IN A SAFE PLACE. ALL BRAKE LINES WERE SEVERELY RUSTED/CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. FUEL LINES WERE REPLACED AS WELL AT THE SAME TIME, DUE TO SEVERE CORROSION.
JUST PURCHASED SET OF UNIROYALS LIBERATOR TIRES FROM AND A SMALL HOLE DEVELOPED ON INNER SIDE WALL OF THE TIRE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC SIERRA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 10 MPH WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED BUT DID NOT RESPOND. THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO REPETITIOUSLY PUMP THE BRAKES UNTIL THE VEHICLE COASTED TO A STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE CORROSION WAS DISCOVERED ON THE BRAKE LINES. THE DEALER MADE REPAIRS TO THE BRAKE LINE AND ADVISED THAT THE CONTACT COULD HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN A SEVERE CRASH IF HE WERE TO HAVE BEEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
HYDRAULIC BRAKES FAILED WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING ON A BACK ROAD PULLING THE TRAILER WITH A 500 LB MOWER IN THE TRAILER. BRAKE FLUID POURED FROM THE BEHIND THE DRIVER DOOR UNDER FROM THE FRAME NEAR THE FUEL FILTER AND BRAKE LINE DISTRIBUTION BLOCK. FRONT BRAKE LINES REPLACED ONE YEAR AGO AFTER AN ACCIDENT WHERE THE BRAKES ALSO FAILED AND FRONT BRAKE LINES REPLACED. 2003 GMC SIERRA 2500 4WD WITH ABOUT 40K MILEAGE. BRAKE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED TWICE WITH THIS VEHICLE...I HAVE ANOTHER CAR, DODGE GRAND CARAVAN WITH 97K AND NO BRAKE LINE PROBLEMS. STAYS IN THE SAME DRIVEWAY AND DRIVES THE SAME ROADS. *TR
WHEN ATTEMPTING TO STOP TRUCK, BRAKE PEDAL FADED TO FLOOR. UPON INSPECTION, THE BRAKE LINES EXHIBITED SEVERE CORROSION AND RUSTED THRU ALLOWING FLUID TO LEAK OUT. THE TRUCK HAS LESS THAN 90,000 MILES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 GMC SIERRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR WAS DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 79,059.
I ENTERED MY VEHICLE TO DRIVE HOME AND REALIZED THAT I HAD NO BRAKES. AFTER LOOKING UNDERNEATH I REALIZED THAT MY BRAKE LINES WERE ROTTED AND LEAKING. ONE LINE IS CURRENTLY LEAKING BUT THEY ARE ALL IN VERY BAD CONDITION. I WAS LEFT WITH NO OPTION BUT TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED HOME. I AM GOING TO HAVE TO REPLACE ALL THE BRAKE LINES AS EVEN THE ONES THAT AREN'T CURRENTLY LEAKING ARE IN VERY POOR CONDITION. IT WOULD BE UNSAFE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITHOUT REPLACING THEM. I AM VERY FORTUNATE THAT THE FAILURE DIDN'T OCCUR WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT A HIGH SPEED. WHEN I PARKED THE VEHICLE THE BRAKES WERE FINE AND WHEN I CAME OUT 20 MINUTES LATER I HAD ABSOLUTELY NO BRAKES.
2003 GMC SIERRA PICK-UP I WAS DRIVING TODAY ABOUT 45 TO 50 MILES AN HOUR AND WAS RUNNING GREAT AND ABOUT AN HOUR LATER, MY SPEEDOMETER WENT UP TO 120 MILES AN HOUR AND WOULD NOT GO BACK DOWN. WHEN I GOT HOME AND PUT MY VEHICLE IN PARK, THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD ONLY GO DOWN TO 70 MILES AN HOUR. I HAVE ALMOST 68,000 MILES ON IT. WHAT IS WRONG AND WHAT CAN I DO TO GET THIS FIXED IMMEDIATELY BEFORE I GET A TICKET? *TR
LUCKILY THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT AS I HAVE BEEN TEACHING MY 16 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER TO DRIVE. THE BRAKES FELT SPONGY AND NOT AS RESPONSIVE AS NORMAL ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK. WHEN I STOPPED IN MY DRIVEWAY, I LOOKED UNDER THE VEHICLE AND BRAKE FLUID WAS POURING OUT OF AN APPARENTLY RUPTURED LINE TO THE BACK BRAKES. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT ON. REGARDLESS OF THE MILES, THIS TRUCK IS BARELY 8 YEARS OLD. A QUICK INTERNET SEARCH SHOWS THAT THIS MODEL YEAR AND NEARBY YEARS OF THE SAME TYPE OF TRUCK HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM. HAD THIS BEEN ON A HIGHWAY TRIP WITH ALL FLUID DRAINING OUT, THERE CERTAINLY WOULD HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT.

DEAR NHTSA, I WAS INVOLVED IN A THREE CAR MVA ON 2 FEB ON I-95 SOUTHBOUND NEAR MILE MARKER 131.2. I WAS TRAVELING IN THE SLOW LANE DURING THE EVENING TRAFFIC COMMUTE WHEN MY VEHICLE WAS STRUCK FROM BEHIND FROM AN INFINITY SUV WHICH COLLIDED AND IMPACTED WITH THE REAR OF MY VEHICLE AND PUSHED MY VEHICLE GMC 2003 SIERRA EXT CAB INTO A LATE MODEL FORD FUSION. THE IMPACT AND FORCE FROM THE SUV BEHIND ME CAUSED REAR AND FRONTAL DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE AND IS EST TO COST OVER $8900.00 FOR REPAIRS. MY AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND AFTER SEEING THE PHOTOS OF MY FULL SIZE PICK-UP TRUCK IT SEEMS THAT THEIR MUST HAVE BEEN SOME SORT OF MALFUNCTION THAT THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY ON IMPACT. MY WHOLE FRONT BUMPER IS COMPLETELY DAMAGED AND THE FRAME HOLDING THE BUMPER IN PLACE APPEARS TO BE BENT. THE REAR BUMPER TO IS COMPLETELY DESTROYED AND PRESSED UNDER THE BED OF THE TRUCK AND THEIR IS EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE BED ITSELF HAVING BEEN BENT UPWARD AS IF IT LOOKS LIKE AN UPSIDE DOWN LETTER "V" AND THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BED ALSO IS FLARED OUTWARD WHERE IT ABSORBED THE IMPACT. THE BED OF THE TRUCK ALSO IMPACTED INTO THE RIGHTSIDE OF MY CAB AND ALSO LEFT SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE. THE IMPACT WAS SO VIOLENT THAT THE INSIDE WIRE CONNECTION TO THE REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER HAD ACTUALLY SEPARATED FROM THE WINDOW WHERE IT WAS SPOT SOLDERED. I RECEIVED SEVERE WHIP LASH, UPPER AND LOWER MUSCLE STRAIN, 2 BROKEN RIBS AND A SEVERE HEAD INJURY FROM MY HEAD STRIKING THE STEERING WHEEL. HAD THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT THE HEAD INJURY OR OTHER INJURIES SUSTAINED WOULD HAVE BEEN MITIGATED SUBSTANTIALLY. *TR

NO WARNING ON MY 2003 GMC TRUCK SPEEDOMETER STARTED GOING FROM 70 MPH TO 120 AND BEYOND WHEN IN REALITY I WAS GOING PROBABLY 30 MPH. THIS COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE A MAN NEEDS TO KNOW HOW FAST HE'S REALLY GOING AFTER A LITTLE RESEARCH THERE'S ALOT OF GM OWNERS WHO DON'T KNOW HOW FAST THERE GOING RECALL ANYONE. *TR
AT 81,000, MILES THE REAR STEEL BRAKE LINE FROM THE FRAME TO THE REAR END RUSTED OUT AND BURST. AT 83000, MILES 3 OF THE STEEL BRAKE LINES, LOCATED UNDER THE DRIVERS DOOR AREA AT THE LEFT FRAME RAIL IN A BUNDLE OF 6 LINES, RUSTED OUT AND BURST. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO STOP MY TRUCK EACH TIME BY USE OF THE PARKING BRAKE AND DID NOT CRASH. ALL THE STEEL BRAKE LINES ARE RUSTED VERY BADLY AND NEED REPLACING. MY LOCAL DEALER QUOTED ME $2270.00 DOLLARS TO REPLACE ALL THE LINES. *TR
FIRST INCIDENT WAS A BRAKE LINE BURSTING IN MY DRIVEWAY. I HAD IT REPAIRED AT MY LOCAL GARAGE. AT THAT TIME HE TOLD ME THAT ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES WERE IN BAD SHAPE. SECOND INCIDENT, WHILE I WAS DRIVING UP THE ROAD AT APPROX 55 MPH WITH MY 19' BOAT IN TOW I REALIZED I HAD NO STEERING OR BRAKES. I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO A STOP AND PULL THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD TO A SAFE LOCATION. THE FAILURE WAS ATTRIBUTED TO A ROTTED LINE TO THE POWER STEERING COOLER. LASTLY, I AM NOT ABLE TO GET A SAFETY INSPECTION STICKER BECAUSE MY BRAKE LINES IN SUCH BAD CONDITION. ESTIMATED COST TO REPAIR $800-$1500 DOLLARS. I WILL ADD THAT THE TRUCK LOOKS LIKE NEW, SPENDS MOST OF IT'S TIME IN THE GARAGE AND IS USED PRIMARILY TO GO TO THE LOCAL DUMP, PLOW MY DRIVEWAY ONLY AND OCCASIONALLY TOW MY BOAT TO THE LAKE! THIS WAS FIXED AND I WAS TOLD THAT ALL OF THE LINES LOOK BAD AND IT WOULD BE $700 TO REPLACE ALL AND THIS SEEMED TO BE COMMON ON THE CHEVY AND GMC TRUCKS. I PURCHASED A 2003 GMC SIERRA (USED) -CHECKED IT OUT AFTER A MECHANIC TOLD ME ABOUT BRAKE LINE PROBLEMS. MY TRUCK HAS EXTREMELY BAD RUST ON THE PORTIONS OF LINE I CAN SEE (LOOKS LIKE CLAMSHELLS OPENING). I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND HAVE FOUND YOU HAVE AN OPEN INVESTIGATION ON THIS PROBLEM. I OWN 1966 AND 1980 VEHICLES WITH ORIGINAL TUBING IN BETTER CONDITION. MY QUESTION TO YOU IS SIMPLE. A RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR AFTERMARKET FUEL FILTERS THAT MAY LEAK AND CATCH ON FIRE IF YOU PARK OVER AN IGNITION SOURCE BUT NO RECALL ON A MAJOR ISSUE CONCERNING BRAKES. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE BUT BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MAIN FRAME ALSO EXHIBITED RUST AND CORROSION. THE CONTACT WAS IN THE PROCESS OF TAKING THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR REPAIR. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000.
THE BRAKES FAILED WHEN I TRIED TO STOP. THE TRUCK WAS TAKEN A AUTO REPAIR SHOP. THEY TOLD ME THE BRAKE LINES HAD FAILED DUE TO RUST. THE BRAKE LINES FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER AND THE HYDRAULIC PUMP HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE BRAKE LINES FROM THE HYDRAULIC PUMP AND THE FRONT WHEELS HAD TO REPLACED ALSO. *TR

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE HE WAS ADVISED THAT THERE WAS AN UNKNOWN ELECTRICAL ISSUE WITH THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000.
