TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC SIERRA 1500. THE CONTACT NOTICED SEVERE RUST TO THE SUBFRAME OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR SUSPENSION, FRONT SUSPENSION, AND STARTER SUPPORT SHOWED EXCESSIVE RUST. ADDITIONALLY, THE SHOCK TOWER, SUPPORTS, TRANSMISSION BOLTS, FOUR WHEEL DRIVE ACTUATOR, AND HARDWARE ALSO SHOWED EXCESSIVE RUST. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE HORN ALSO FAILED TO OPERATE INTERMITTENTLY. BECKLEY AUTO MALL (3934 ROBERT C BYRD DR, BECKLEY, WV 25801, (304) 252-3300) STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH THE VIN. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR SEVERAL FAILURES; HOWEVER, THE RUST ISSUE WAS NOT ADDRESSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. CASTECH CYLINDER HEADS ON 2001 THROUGH 2006 5.3L VORTEC ENGINES ARE POROUS AND ALLOW ANTIFREEZE TO SEAP INTO THE OIL. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN AS IT CAN DESTROY THE ENGINE (OIL DOESN'T LUBRICATE CORRECTLY, SLUDGE BUILDUP) AND LEAVE SOMEONE, AT THE LEAST, STRANDED, AT THE WORST, IT CAN CAUSE A HUGE ENGINE FIRE. GM HAS BEEN AWARE OF THIS SINCE 2007. THEY ISSUED A BULLETIN DESCRIBING THE PROBLEM AND WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE TO FIX, BUT NO RECALL. TO FIX EITHER THE CYLINDER HEADS NEED TO BE REPLACED ($2500) OR THE ENTIRE ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED ($5500). MY VEHICLE IS A 2005 GMC SIERRA 1500 SLE. CONCERNING GM 706 CASTECH CYLINDER HEADS/GM TSB 06-06-01-019B I HAVE A 2005 GMC SIERRA WHICH HAS SLOWLY BEEN LEAKING COOLANT FOR ABOUT 6 MONTHS. I HAVE HAD IT LOOKED AT AND THE DEALER INFORMED ME THAT I HAVE A 706 CASTECH CYLINDER HEAD THAT IS NOTORIOUS FOR CRACKING AND LEAKING. THE DEALER TOLD ME THERE WAS COOLANT INSIDE MY OIL AND RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE ENGINE. AS I HAVE BEGUN RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE I REALIZE THESE CYLINDER HEADS AFFECT MILLIONS OF GM VEHICLES AND LOYAL CUSTOMERS. GM HAS ISSUED A TSB AND ARE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AT HAND AND IN MY, AND MANY OTHER CUSTOMERS THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALLED ITEM. I AM CALLING ON GM TO FIX THIS ISSUE/MISTAKE.
ISSUES WITH EMISSIONS SWITCH. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL NOT GO OFF. ALSO 3 AND 4TH GEAR ARE COMPLETELY GONE OUT. I DO NOT TOW OR HAVE HAD ANYTHING EVEN REMOTELY HEAVY IN THIS TRUCK. IT'S A 2005 GMC SIERRA WITH ONLY 78,480 MILES ON IT. I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE HAVING ISSUES WITH THIS 4 SPEED TRANSMISSION. IT IS NOT HEAVY DUTY ENOUGH FOR THIS SIZE TRUCK. GM NEEDS TO RECALL ALL OF THESE TRANSMISSIONS. WHEN IT FIRST STARTED SLIPPING I LOST ALL POWER GOING DOWN THE ROAD AT ABOUT 55MPH. THE VEHICLE THAT WAS BEHIND ME SLAMMED ON HIS BRAKES TO AVOID HITTING ME. THIS PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION IS GOING TO KILL SOMEONE.
SLIGHT CLUNKING STARTED WHEN SHIFTING INTO DRIVE. FLUID ON GARAGE FLOOR. OFF TO AAMCO. FOUND TWO HOLES IN TRANSFERCASE. THE "4 STAR BUFFERING RING" ON SHAFT INSIDE POUNDED TWO HOLES IN CASING. JUST STEP ON GAS AND TORQUE POUNDS THE RING INTO THE CASING UNTIL HOLES ARE MADE. ALL FLUID POURS OUT. MOST PEOPLE WONT EVEN KNOW ITS HAPPENED UNTIL CASTASTROPHIC FAILURE. SEVERAL SEALS, CHAIN, TWO GEARS, 3 BOTTLES OF FLUID, "4 STAR BUFFER RING" AND A NEW CASING HALF WAS REQUIRED. $2654.00 TO REPAIR FOR A 12 MONTH WARRANTY. AAMCO POINTED OUT I DID NOTHING WRONG. ITS AN ENGINEERED FAILURE POINT BY GM. THE FAILURE PROGRESSIVELY WORSENED AND THE CONTACT HAD TO MEMORIZE IN WHAT GEAR THE VEHICLE WAS PLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLTS ARE BREAKING OFF FOR NO APPARENT REASON. I HAVE FOUR BROKEN ALREADY AND AN EXHAUST LEAK DEVELOPING. THIS APPEARS TO BE A DEFECT IN MANUFACTURING. I HAVE A FRIEND WITH TWO OF THE SAME TRUCKS THAT THE SAME THING HAS HAPPENED TO. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS POSTED ON THE WEB. I HAVE HAD MANY VEHICLES OVER THE YEARS AND WORKED THEM HARD BUT HAVE NEVER SEEN A BROKEN EXHAUST MANIFOLD BOLT ON ANY OF THEM. THIS CAN BE A DANGEROUS SITUATION AS HAVING EXHAUST LEAKS UNDER HOOD COULD CAUSE A FIRE. AS FAR AS I KNOW GM HAS NOT ISSUED A BULLETIN OR RECALL ON THIS BUT THERE SHOULD BE SOME REMEDIATION AS THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR AND IT IS NOT A FAILURE CAUSED BY THE LACK OF MAINTENANCE. I HAVE ALSO HEARD REPORTS OF REPAIRED UNITS BREAKING AGAIN IN ABOUT THE SAME NUMBER OF MILES AND HAVING TO BE REPAIRED AGAIN. *TR
GM STATES THAT DEXRON-VI IS FULLY BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE WITH ALL DEXRON-III APPLICATIONS. MY VEHICLE IS A 2005 GMC SIERRA K2500HD, WITH AN 8.1L GASOLINE ENGINE AND ALLISON 1000 TRANSMISSION. AFTER PERFORMING A ROUTINE SERVICE ON MY TRANSMISSION (FLUID DRAIN AND REFILL), REPLACING THE DEXRON-III WITH DEXRON-VI, I NOTICED THE SEALS AND GASKETS LEAKING FROM AROUND THE TRANSMISSION. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH, I FOUND THAT THE SYNTHETIC DEXRON-VI IS NOT COMPATIBLE WITH CERTAIN SEALS INSTALLED IN ALLISON BRAND TRANSMISSIONS. ALLISON TRANSMISSION DOES NOT APPROVE THE USE OF DEXRON-VI IN ITS TRANSMISSIONS DUE TO THE SEAL INCOMPATIBILITY (ALLISON SERVICE TIP #1099P). ANOTHER ALLISON DOCUMENT (SA5429EN) LISTS TWO SERIAL NUMBER CUTOFFS, PRIOR TO WHICH CONTAIN SEALS INCOMPATIBLE WITH DEXRON-VI. THE SITUATION HAS YET TO BE RESOLVED - GM DENIES ANY POSSIBLE INCOMPATIBILITY, AND WILL NOT WARRANT ANY DAMAGES, WHILE ALLISON REPRESENTATIVES HAVE TOLD ME THAT THE PROBLEM IS A DIRECT RESULT OF DEXRON-VI. THE ESTIMATED COST TO REPLACE ALL OF THE SEALS IN THE TRANSMISSION IS $1,900.00. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, THE GEAR SHIFT INDICATOR ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FAILED TO ILLUMINATE AND DISPLAY WHAT GEAR THE VEHICLE WAS POSITIONED IN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE BUT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 GMC SIERRA. THE CONTACT STATED. THE SHIFT LEVER POSITION INDICATOR LOCATED IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER WOULD NOT ILLUMINATE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO LOCATE A RECALL FOR THE FAILURE (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 05V055000- POWER TRAIN: MANUAL TRANSMISSION: SHIFT PATTERN INDICATOR) HOWEVER, THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE CONTACT'S VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. MULTIPLE REPORTS TO THE DEALERSHIP OF A CONTINUOUS VIBRATION AND NOISE IN THE FRONT END ACCOMPANIED BY UNEVEN TIRE WEAR. TIRES WERE ROTATED REDUCING BUT NOT ELIMINATING THE NOISE. THREE TO FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS WAS REQUESTED FROM ME BY THE DEALERSHIP TO REMOVE AND DISASSEMBLE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL FOR FURTHER INVESTIGATION. THIS REQUEST WAS DENIED BY ME BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. WITHIN 1100 MILES AND TWO WEEKS OF LAST INSPECTION BY DEALERSHIP, FRONT DRIVERS SIDE WHEEL BEARING CATASTROPHICALLY FAILED. DURING THIS EVENT THE VEHICLE BECAME NEARLY UNCONTROLLABLE AND DOVE INTO THE ONCOMING LANE, STEERING WAS VIOLENTLY REACTIVE AND THE VEHICLE ENDED UP TRAVELING OFF THE ROAD INTO THE DITCH IN THE OF THE DIRECTION OF TRAVEL. THE BRAKE ROTOR AND CALIPER HAD BECOME RED HOT SETTING FIRE TO THE DRIVE AXEL BOOT AND GRASS BENEATH THE VEHICLE. THE FIRE WAS ABLE TO BE QUICKLY EXTINGUISHED. DEATH AND/OR INJURY WERE ONLY AVOIDED DUE TO THE LACK OF TRAFFIC IN THE ONCOMING LANE AND NO OBSTRUCTIONS IN THE AREA OF THE DITCH WITHIN WHICH THE VEHICLE TRAVELED. RESULTS OF BEARING FAILURE INCLUDE DESTROYED BRAKE ROTOR, CALIPER AND PADS. THE FRONT DRIVE AXEL WAS PURGED OF GREASE THROUGH EXTREME HEATING AND AXEL BOOT WAS ALSO DESTROYED. ALTHOUGH REPAIRS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED BY THE DEALERSHIP I HAVE INCURRED A 300 DOLLAR TOWING BILL WHICH THE DEALERSHIP, GENERAL MOTORS, AND THE WARRANTY COMPANY GMPP ARE REFUSING TO COVER. THE DEALERSHIP IS CLAIMING THAT THERE IS NO DIAGNOSTIC METHOD OF INSPECTION TO PREDICT EMINENT WHEEL BEARING FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER IS REFUSING TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE MULTIPLE REPORTS OF THE ISSUE AND SUPPORTS IT'S DEALERSHIPS PRACTICES. THE WARRANTY COMPANY IS ONLY ACCEPTING LIABILITY OF 50 DOLLARS FOR TOWING WHICH I HAVE HAD TO PAY 300 DOLLARS FOR. *TR
HELLO, MY COMPLAINT IS THAT GM PLACED AN UNDERSIZED TRANSMISSION (4L60E) IN THE POPULAR CREW CAB 1/2 TON TRUCKS AND I AM REQUESTING FOR NHTSA TO INVESTIGATE GM REGARDING THIS ISSUE AND MAKE A RECALL. MY TRUCK IS A 2005 GMC SIERRA SLE Z71 CREW CAB (K1500) WITH ONLY 76K+ MILES AND HAS THE 4L60/65E TRANSMISSION. THIS 4L60E TRANSMISSION IS ALSO USED IN GM TRUCKS COLORADO & CANYON AND WORKS GOOD FOR THESE SMALLER TRUCKS BUT IN THE LARGER SILVERADO & SIERRA CREW CABS THE TRANSMISSION WEARS OUR THE 3-4 CLUTCH PREMATURELY DUE TO THE WEIGHT OF THE TRUCK. THIS IS A BAD DESIGN AND GM HAS FIXED IT IN THE 2007+ CREW CAB TRUCKS BY USING A 6-SPEED TRANSMISSION INSTEAD OF THE PREVIOUS 4-SPEED. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND MY TRANSMISSION SLIPPED IN 4TH GEAR. I SHIFTED TO 3RD GEAR AND TRANSMISSION CONTINUED TO SLIP. THIS WAS DURING RUSH HOUR AND I WAS GOING 65 MPH. I HAD TO WAIT FOR TRAFFIC TO CLEAR ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE SO I COULD GET TO THE SHOULDER WHILE I HAD SEVERAL CARS BEHIND ME WAITING. MY TRUCK COULD NO LONGER HOLD SPEEDS ABOVE 50 MPH WITHOUT SLIPPING THE TRANSMISSION. I COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE MY TRUCK COULD NOT ACCELERATE. THIS IS A POTENTIAL HAZARD. I HAD THE TRUCK TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD I NEED A REBUILD AND THE MOST IT WOULD COST ME IS $3K TO FIX. I SAID NO THANKS AND PAID THE $45 DIAGNOSES FEE. I TOLD THEM WHY IF I DO NOT TOW WITH MY TRUCK AND DRIVE PASSIVE TO GET THE BEST MILEAGE AND SOME HOW MY TRANSMISSION NEEDS A REBUILD AT ONLY 76K MILES? THIS SHOULD NOT BE. I HAVE A 10 YEAR OLD CAR WITH 193K MILES AND IT HAS NEVER HAD A TRANSMISSION REBUILD. I HAVE CALLED GM AND THEY SAY THERE IS NO RECALL AND THERE IS NO TRANSMISSION PROBLEM BUT I DISAGREE. I ASKED THE DEALER TO PROVIDE ME WITH HOW MANY TRANSMISSION REBUILDS THEY HAVE DONE AND THEY SAY THEY DO NOT TRACK THIS INFORMATION. THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS BECAUSE THEY DO NOT GIVE GM ANY FEEDBACK ON HOW MANY REPAIRS THEY DO TO CARS OUT OF WARRANTY. *TR
WITHIN 4 MONTHS OF PURCHASE, WAS DRIVING AT APPROX. 25 MPH WHEN TRANSFER CASE SHIFTED INTO 4 HIGH ON IT'S OWN. SHUT OFF VEHICLE, RESTART AND ABLE TO PUT BACK INTO 2 WHEEL DRIVE. HAPPENED ON AND OFF FOR A LITTLE MORE THAN A MONTH WHEN IT WENT TO 4 LO WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH THROUGH TOWN. UNABLE TO RESET. LIMPED IT THE 2 MILES TO DEALERSHIP FOR DIAGNOSIS. COST ME $1200 TO HAVE THE TRANSFER CASE REBUILT. SMOKED THE CLUTCH PACK, BURNED OUT 2 BUSHINGS AND BENT SHIFT SHAFT. HAD SECOND ISSUE OF SHIFTING ON IT'S OWN, MAY 15TH, 2014. THIS TIME IT COST ME $500 FOR THE SHIFT MOTOR TO BE REPLACED. SECOND PROBLEM, SPEEDOMETER READING INCORRECTLY OR NOT AT ALL. BEEN GOING ON FOR ABOUT 3 YEARS SPORADICALLY (APPARENTLY THE LITTLE DRIVE "MOTOR" ON THE BACK OF THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER, $300 REPLACEMENT OR, FOUND A COMPANY TO REBUILD WITH NEW "MOTORS" FOR UNDER $200). PASSLOCK ISSUES STARTED IN JAN 2014, HAS LEFT ME STRANDED A COUPLE TIMES NOW. CAN'T GET A GOOD ANSWER FROM DEALER AS TO HOW TO REPAIR OTHER THAN "BRING IT IN AND WE'LL HOOK IT TO OUR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM" (I.E. PAY US LOTS OF MONEY). ALSO HAVING ISSUE WITH CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON CONSTANTLY. INTERMITTENT ENGINE MISS ON MULTIPLE CYLINDERS. ROUGH IDLE, CRAPPY MILEAGE, BUT NOT DOWN ON POWER. MISS SEAMS TO GO AWAY OFF IDLE AND NOT NOTICEABLE UNDER LOAD. NEW PLUGS, WIRES, ETC, ETC, ETC.... HAVEN'T FIGURED THIS ONE OUT YET. SAME ANSWER FROM DEALER (PAY US MORE MONEY PLEASE). LASTLY, AIR BAG LIGHT CAME ON IN DEC OF 2012. NEVER CRASHED OR BUMPED BUT HAD TO REPLACE LEFT FRONT AIR BAG SENSOR. LOVE THE TRUCK, CURRENTLY HAS 154000 MILES BUT I'M GETTING FRUSTRATED WITH ALL THE LITTLE ELECTRICAL "GLITCHES" AND THE DEALER WON'T HELP A BIT WITHOUT THE NORMAL ANSWER, "BRING IT IN AND WE'LL HOOK IT TO OUR DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM". IT'S DANG NEAR $200 (DIAGNOSTIC CHARGE) JUST TO GET MY TRUCK IN AND OUT WITHOUT EVEN GETTING ANYTHING REPAIRED! *TR

THE FAILURE BEGAN IN DECEMBER OF 2007. IN AUGUST OF 2008, THE WIRING PLUG AND RESISTOR MELTED. THE WIRING PLUG WAS REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE METAL CONNECTOR IS DEFECTIVE AND WILL NOT ALLOW THE PLUG TO PROPERLY CONNECT. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE CAN ONLY BE DRIVEN IN THIRD GEAR. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY NEEDED TO DIAGNOSE THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,100 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 37,000.

AS A RESULT, SHE FELL OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND WAS DRAGGED. THE CONTACT MANAGED TO SHIFT THE GEAR INTO PARK. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. APPROXIMATELY SEVEN MONTHS LATER, A SEAL ON THE TRANSMISSION BLEW OUT. THE DEALER REBUILT AND INSTALLED THE TRANSMISSION. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE GEAR SHIFT INDICATOR SHIFTED INTO DRIVE WITHOUT WARNING. SHE WAS ABLE TO GET IN AND STOP THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER REPROGRAMMED THE SOFTWARE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 17,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 29,089.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WITH THE KEY IN THE IGNITION ACCESSORY MODE, AN UNATTENDED CHILD SWITCHED THE COLUMN GEAR SHIFT FROM PARK TO DRIVE AND THE VEHICLE ROLLED DOWNHILL CRASHING INTO A TREE. MINOR INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THERE WAS EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE POLICE WERE ALERTED AND A REPORT WAS TAKEN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A BODY SHOP FOR THE BODY DAMAGE. TRANSMISSION MAKES A NOISE ALL THE TIME. BROUGHT IN TO THE DEALER 5 TIMES IN THE PAST 7 MONTHS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. *JB
GMC SIERRA 1500 CREW CAB; HILE DRIVING AT INTERSTATE SPEED, THE DRIVESHAFT FELL OFF THE VEHICLE AND SHATTERED. THERE WAS SUBSTANTIAL DAMAGE TO THE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE INCLUDING MUFFLER, YOKE, HEAT SHIELD & DRIVESHAFT. THESE PARTS WERE REPLACED WITH NEW MANUFACTURER PROVIDED PARTS. *AK
