BRAKE FAILURE. IT APPEARS THE MATERIAL THE ROTORS ARE MADE OF ARE NOT UP TO SPECIFICATIONS PROBABLY MADE IN CHINA. THE SURFACE OF THE BRAKE PAD AREA IS FLAKING OFF THUS DRASTICALLY, REDUCING THE BARKING POWER OF THE VEHICLE, 2002 GMC YUKON XL DENALI. *AK
2002 YUKON - BRIEF ENGINE KNOCK WHEN VEHILCE IS STARTED. ALSO, HAS AN EXHAUST NOISE/RATTLE AT APPROXIMATELY 40-42 MPH, 1000=1300 RPMS. NOISES STARTED AT APPROXIMATELY 2000 MILES.
WHILE DRIVING AND WITH NO WARNING BRAKES WENT OUT, CAUSING BRAKE PEDAL TO GO TO THE FLOOR, AND VEHICLE WILL HAVE EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK
THERE IS NO LATCH SYSTEM INSIDE OF VEHICLE FOR INFANT TO SEAT. DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK
THIRD ROW MIDDLE PASSENGER SEAT BELT WILL NOT PULL OUT, VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN EXAMINED BY DEALER. TS
FUEL TANK/FILLER ASSEMBLY CAUSES VAPORS TO BACKUP INTO GAS PUMPS EQUIPPED WITH VAPOR RECLAMATION SYSTEMS. THIS CAUSES A GAS PUMP SO EQUIPPED TO SHUTOFF PREMATURILY WHEN REFILLING THE VEHICLES FUEL TANKS FROM ANY PERCENTAGE OF CAPICITY. THERE FOR, FILLING THE TANK BECOMES ESPECIALLY TIME CONSUMING, FRUSTURATING AND POTENTIALLY HAZARDEOUS AS ONE IS CONSTANTLY TRYING TO OVERRIDE THE SYSTEMS AUTOMATIC SHUTOFF INORDER TO PUT ANY REASONABLE QUANTITY OF GALLONS INTO THE VEHICLES FUEL TANK. IT BECOMES DIFFICULT TO KNOW WHETHER THE GAS PUMPS AUTO SHUTOFF IS BEING TRIGGERED BY FUEL BACKUP DUE TO TANK DESIGN PROBLEMS OR THE TANK ACTUALLY STARTING TO OVERFILL. THIS ISSUE PRIMARELY OCCURS WITH THE 38.5 GALLON FUEL TANK.*AK

CONSUMER STATES THAT VEHICLE WILL NOT GO INTO REVERSE AND COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. CAUSE UNKNOWN. DEALER NOTIFIED.*JB
WHEN THE ACCELERATOR WAS APPLIED, THE ENGINE REVVED, AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHOT FOWARD. *JB
AIR BAG SENSOR LIGHT REMAINED ON WHILE DRIVING, VEHICLE BEEN TO THE DEALER ON FOUR OCCASIONS, AND EACH TIME PROBLEM REOCCURRED. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
THE FOG RUNNING LIGHT ON THE FRONT LEFT SIDE HAS BEEN OUT SINCE 6 MONTHS AFTER THE PURCHASE OF OUR VEHICLE. IRONICALLY I HAVE NOTICED THAT THE SAME LIGHT IS OUT ON A GREAT NUMBER OF THE TAHOE'S & YUKON'S THAT I SEE ON THE ROAD. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A POTENTIAL SAFETY FLAW ON THIS MODEL YET IT HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED FOR REPLACEMENT. WE HAVE ATTEMPTED TO REPLACE THE BULB BUT THE LIGHT KEEPS GOING OUT. *JB
MY 2002 GMC YUKON XL DOES NOT HAVE AN ALARM FOR *OPEN* DRIVER/PASSENGER DOOR (IT ONLY HAS A REAR "CARGO DOOR OPEN" INDICATOR). YOU CAN ACTUALLY DRIVE WITH THE DRIVER/PASSENGER SLIGHTLY AJAR (YOU HEAR WIND) OR OPENED, *WITHOUT* ANY NOTIFICATION OR ALARM. GMC CUSTOMER SERVICE (800 #) & FREMONT GMC POSITION THAT THIS IS BY DESIGN. I BELIEVE IT IS A SAFETY FLAW THAT REQUIRES GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION TO CORRECT. A SAFETY RECALL IS WARRANTED. *NLM
AFTER OWNING MY 2002 GMC YUKON XL, I NOTICED UNEVEN TIRED TREAD WEAR AT ABOUT THE 5000 MILE MARK. WHEN MY VEHICLE WAS TAKEN INTO THE CARRIAGE MOTORS COMPANY SERVICE DEPARTMENT FOR MY VEHICLE'S 7500 SERVICE, I MENTIONED MY CONCERN FOR MANNER IN WHICH MY TIRES WERE WEARING. BOTH THE FRONT AND BACK TIRES HAD THE SAME TIRE WEAR SINCE THEY HAD BEEN ROTATED AT 5000 MILES. THE TREAD WEARS UNEVENLY ON THE INSIDE OF BOTH THE FRONT TIRES, CAUSING EXCESSIVE TIRE NOISE FROM INSIDE THE CABIN AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, THE VEHICLE PULLS FROM SIDE TO SIDE. MOST NOTEABLY RIGHT AFTER THE TIRES ARE ROTATED. I HAVE SINCE COMPLAINED ON NUMEROUS OCCASSIONS TO CARRIAGE MOTORS AND EACH TIME WAS GIVEN THE RESPONSE THAT IT IS NORMAL TIRE WEAR FOR A GMC YUKON. SECOND OPINIONS WERE SOUGHT FROM DIFFERENT TIRE DEALERSHIPS IN THE TEMECULA AREA, WITH ALL STATING THAT IT IS NOT NORMAL. MY CONCERN IS FOR MY WIFE AND THREE CHILDREN, AS MY SPOUSE IS THE PRIMARY DRIVER OF THIS VEHICLE. THE VEHILCE HANDLES VERY POORLY ON THE FREEWAY AND MOST RECENTLY, HAVING RECEIVED SOME RAIN IN OUR LOCAL AREA, I WAS ALARMED AT HOW POORLY THE VEHILCLE HANDLED ON THE WET ROADS. A LOCAL TIRE COMPANY IN MY AREA STATED THAT MY TIRES ON NOT CONTACTING PROPERLY WITH THE ROAD, WHICH RESULTS IN POOR HANDLING. IN ADDITION, THE CARRIAGE MOTOR COMPANY STATED THE REASON FOR THE MANNER IN WHICH THE TIRES WEAR FOR "YUKONS" WAS THE DESIGN BY GMC IN AN ATTEMPT TO MAKE A SMOOTHER RIDE FOR THIS VEHICLE. I AM SEEKING THE NHTSA ASSISTANCE IN THIS MATTER AS I HAVE EXHAUSTED ALL EFFORTS WITH THE CARRIAGE MOTORS AND GMC CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE. IF YOUR AGENCY IS UNABLE TO ASSIST ME PLEASE DIRECT ME TO THE APPROPRIATE AGENCY THAT WILL PROVIDE ASSISTANCE IN THIS MATTER. DT
WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE, THERE IS A VERY AUDIBLE ENGINE KNOCK. IT SEEMS TO GO AWAY AFTER ABOUT 30 SECONDS OR SO. DOESN'T GET BETER NOR DOES IT GET WORSE BUT IT IS VERY NOTICEABLE.*AK
WHEN WE PURCHASED OUR VEHICLE WE NOTICED THE HEAD LINER PLUGS WERE MISSING THEY TOLD US TO BRING THE CAR BACK AND THEY WILL PUT THEM IN.THEY ATTEMEPTED TO INSTALL THE PLUGS AND NOTICED THERE WERE NO CLIPS INSTALLED IN THIS VEHICLE. NEVER INSPECTED ,ALSO ON 2-1-02 WE WERE DRIVING IN THE VEHICLE WERE MY DAUGHTERS WERE IN THE BACK SEAT WITH THERE SEAT BELTS ON AND MY HUSBAND STEPPED ON HIS BRAKES MY 10 YR. OLD FELL FORWARD AND HIT HER HEAD ON THE SEAT IN FRONT OF HER AND SHE SAID MY SEAT BELT CAME OUT WE TURNED AND SAW THAT THE BOLT OF THE SEAT BELT WAS ALL THE WAY OUT.WE THINK THIS CAR HAS NEVER BEEN PROPERLY INSPECTED. *AK
CONSUMER STATED THAT ON ONE OCCASION WHILE COMING TO HER VEHICLE, SHE FOUND HER FIVE YEAR OLD SON DANGLING FROM THE SEAT BELT RETRACTOR AT THE TOP OF THE LEFT BACK SEAT DOOR. THE LEFT REAR SEAT BELT BUCKLE WAS UNATTACHED. THE SEAT BELT WAS RETRACTED AND LOCKED IN PLACE WITH THE BELT WRAPPED AROUND HIS WAIST, HE WAS INJURED DUE TO THIS INCIDENT. *SLC *NM
WHEN TRAVELING AT 55MPH OR HIGHER AND GOING OVER A LITTLE BUMP/ HILL VEHICLE FEELS LIKE IT'S FLOATING. DRIVER FEELS THAT IT'S HARD TO STEER. CAUSE IS UNKNOWN. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK

SMOKE FROM ENGINE COMPARTMENT, THEN NOTICED FLAMES COMING FROM ENGINE COMPARTMENT, DUE TO ELECTRICAL LOCKS FAILED AND CAR TOTAL LOSS
38.5 GALLON GAS TANK CAN ONLY BE FILLED TO 2/3 TO 3/4 LEVEL BECAUSE THE DUAL GAS TANK DESIGN DOES NOT ALLOW GASOLINE VAPORS TO EVACUATE, TRAPPING THE GAS VAPORS IN THE TANK WHERE THEY COULD CONCEIVABLY EXPLODE. ALTHOUGH THE DESIGN OF THIS CHASSIS IS TWO YEARS OLD, THE DEALER'S SERVICE MANAGER WAS UNAWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE MECHANIC CONTACTED GM, AND THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, BUT WOULD NOT DISCLOSE THE EXTENT OF THE PROBLEM, WHAT THEY ARE DOING TO REMEDY IT, OR WHEN CUSTOMERS CAN EXPECT THE DESIGN DEFECT TO BE FIXABLE.
DT: ANIT-LOCK BRAKE MODULES ON THE 2002 AND 2003 GMC YUKON BURN OUT AND GET STUCK, AND WON'T OPERATE. THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE WILL COME ON WITH ENGINE OFF, AND ONLY WAY TO STOP IS TO DISASSEMBLE THE BRAKES. IT ALMOST CAUSED A FIRE, BUT CONSUMER CAUGHT IT IN TIME.*AK
RUSTED PARTS UNDER THE DASHBOARD OF 2002 YUKON'S, GMC SIERRA, CHEVROLET SUBURBANS THROUGHOUT THIS AREA AND POSSIBLY THE US AND ABROAD.*AK
WHEN STARTING VEHICLE UP, IT LURCHES FORWARD. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, AND CAUSE UNKNOWN.*AK CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN THE PARK POSITION IT LURCHES FORWARD. *YD
WE DID NOT NOTICE THE MISSING LATCH SYSTEM FOR CHILD SEATS UNTIL VERY RECENTLY WHEN WE BECAME GRANDPARENTS. OUR SON'S 2001 CHEVY SILVERADO HAS THE SYSTEM AND OUR NEWER 2002 YUKON XL DENALI OWNERS MANUAL STATES CLEARLY THAT THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH THE NEW AND IMPROVED LATCH SYSTEM. IT'S NOT THERE! NO LOWER ATTACHMENT POINTS ARE INCORPORATED IN THE OPTIONAL BUCKET SEATS WHICH GM CHARGED US EXTRA FOR. WHY DOES IT COST EXTRA TO GET LESS SEAT AND THEN GET RIPPED OFF ON THE NEW CHILD SAFETY SEAT ATTACHMENT SYSTEM? MR
CONSUMER STATES OF HAVING PROBLEMS WITH TIRES PLEASE SPECIFY WHAT THE TIRE SIZE'S ARE. TS
CONSUMER CALLED COMPLAINING ABOUT A CIRCUIT SHORT ON THE PANEL WHICH IT DISABLES THE CRUISE CONTROL. DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND DENIED TO WORK ON THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THERE IS NOT A RECALL FOR THAT METTER. TS
FRONT HEATER ONLY OPERATES AT FULL TEMPERATURE SETTING 82 DEGREES. OTHERWISE, THE HEATER IS BLOWING COLD AIR, ABOUT THE OUTSIDE AIR TEMPERATURE. THE ONLY WAY TO REGULATE INSIDE TEMPERATURE IS TO SET AT 82 DEGREES, THEN TURN SYSTEM OFF UNTIL THE CABIN IS COLD, THEN TURN HEATER BACK ON, ETC. THIS NEEDS TO BE DONE EVERY FEW MINUTES, CAUSING CONSTANT DRIVER DISTRACTION. DEALER IS ADVISING GM TECH CENTER IS STATING THE SYSTEM IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED. DT
THE PASSENGER SEAT BELT DID NOT ALLOW THE PASSENGER TO LEAN FORWARD, THE SEAT BELT LOCKED INTO PLACE. *JB
THE SERVICE DEALER STATED THERE WAS A TOW OUT PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE. THE TIRES WORE OUT EVERY 5,000 MILES. PLEASE PROVIDE DETAILS. *JB
CONSUMER NOTICED A NOISE COMING FROM RIGHT REAR OF VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY. DEALER WAS CONTACTED, AND CHANGED THE EXHAUST SYSTEM. NOISE STOPPED FOR A WHILE, BUT RETURNED. *AK
WHEN VEHICLE GOES OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD, THERE IS A RATTLE IN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE DEALERSHIP INDICATED THAT THIS IS CAUSED BY A FAILURE IN THE STEERING AND NEEDS REPLACED. *PH
THE FRONT/REAR WHEEL BEARINGS WENT OUT AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. *PH
WHEN THE KEY IS INSERTED INTO THE IGNITION CONSUMER IS ABLE TO CHANGE GEAR FROM PARK WITHOUT DEPRESSING BRAKE PEDAL. HOWEVER, WHEN VEHICLE IS RUNNING, NOT ABLE TO CHANGE GEARS WITHOUT APPLYING BRAKES.*AK
THE CONSUMER HAD DIFFICULTY FILLING THE GAS TANK. THE CONSUMER NOTICED THE TANK HAD TO BE FILLED SLOWLY. WHEN REACHING ABOUT 3/4 FULL, FUEL LEAKED OUT. CONSUMER CONTACTED GM THEY CLAIMED THERE WAS A BULLETIN OUT REGARDING THE PROBLEM AND THE DEALERSHIP NEVER FIXED THE VEHICLE. CONSUMER FELT GM SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL ON THE DEFECTIVE VEHICLE. *AK *CB *JB
CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT VEHICLE HESITATION. DEALER WAS CONTACTED, AND HAD REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY SENSOR. ALSO ABS LIGHT TURNED ON DASH, AS WELL AS THE GAUGES. DEALER WAS CONTACTED ANDS STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE.*AK
WHEN THE CARGO DOOR WAS OPENED GLASS DETACHED FROM IT AND CAME OFF. THIS OCCURRED BECAUSE OF IMPROPER INSTALLATION AT TIME OF THE GLASS BEING MANUFACTURED, PER DEALERSHIP. *AK
THERE WERE PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE'S REAR PASSENGER SEATBELT. *MR THE RETRACTING LOCK DID NOT WORK PROPERLY WHEN IT WAS USED TO RESTRAIN A SHILD SAFETY SEAT. *SCC *JB
UPON ROTATING THE TIRES MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT ALL 4 TIRES INNER TREAD WAS CUPPING. HOWEVER, MECHANIC COULD NOT IDENTIFY THE CAUSE OF THE TIRE CUPPING BECAUSE VEHICLE'S ALIGNMENT WAS UP TO SPECS, AND TIRE PRESSURE WAS WELL MAINTAINED.*AK *MR
