Rear LED taillights circuit boards broken. Disabling both Stop tail lights causing serious safety hazard. We had no clue driving around and we didn't have any brake lights another driver had to tell us. So we googled this problem and it turns out that all of 2017 GMC Yukon have the same issue. There's even multiple websites to repair them as well as auto supply stores selling replacements for $1,000 and the dealership wants $1,500. This is a real problem and GM needs to make this right and recall all of these and replace them before somebody gets hurt if they haven't already.
RPM’s started to fluctuate while driving with cruise on. Noticed no issue with shifting until torque converter grenaded blowing metal through the transmission 2 days later. Transmission has been replaced with GM reman by a GM dealer. New transmission lags going into gear when it’s cold and shifts hard. GM tech said this is common and no way to correct it without replacing it again.
Tranny failed at 92k miles even though properly maintained. Since new tranny installed by dealer (out of pocket cost) had to return due to tranny slipping into neutral when driving highway speeds and taking foot off gas. Dealer performed TCM and ECM flash updates. Cost out of pocket for programming. Issue came back less than 2000 miles later
Rear (Tail/Stop) lights on both sides, would work intermittently. Turns out it’s a known issue with the LED circuit boards. They consistently break in 2 places, leaving the vehicle with no tail lights/stip lights. GM knows of the issue , but since it’s NOT CONSIDERED a Safety Issue, they do nothing. It’s clearly a safety issue, as following drivers may not see lights, on the rear. Clearly, it is definitely a safety issue, as it can easily cause an accident, not knowing a car is there in the dark , or not knowing that the vehicle in front of them is on the brakes, and slowing.
Transmission /torque converter I was driving on highway and all of a sudden what seemed like the engine lost power and I could not accelerate. After heading to slow lane and few seconds later everything went back to normal. A week later same thing happened but this time it wouldn’t shift to second gear. I was stranded on side of road. Before calling help , I let it idle for a few minutes and tried again to put in drive, it worked again. I made it home. Next day it just started making a loud noise under truck. Was able to get a mechanic and he said it’s the transmission. Has 103k miles and is out of warranty
The contact owns a 2017 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 45 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed; however, the brake pedal remained on the floorboard. The contact stated that the vehicle was driven until the vehicle eventually slowed down. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and determined that the rotors and brake pads needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, and it was determined that the ABS needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 85,000.
AC stopped blowing cold air while driving
Driving down the highway and brake pedal became hard to push down almost causing us to wreck. Keep seeing there was a recall for the brake vacuum pump and also brake assist warning came on. Also when driving low speed like in parking lot it takes a while for vehicle to come to a complete stop
Lifters
The contact owns a 2017 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that while driving at 20 MPH, the vehicle slipped out of gear, causing the vehicle to independently slow down. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the failure was due to a faulty transmission. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000. The VIN was unavailable.
my acceleration is sticking.. have 11322 miles when i accelerate to get on freeway gas pedal gets stuck .. had to put it in neutral
The engine light has come on spuradically for the last 1.5 years and has been consistently on since May of 2023. This starting approx. 95,000 miles. During this time after starting the Yukon it is chuggy and missing, as I drive off it jerks and darts forward. Seems to be when I stop and start to go this happens, again engine light is always on...sometimes flashing. Starting 9/19/23 (106,000 miles) when slowing down to turn into a parking lot the engine revved high, no movement with the touch of the gas pedal and suddenly takes off with a jerk and a squeal of the tires. VERY SCARY. Since then I have experienced this DAILY, at least once a day. So far it is when I am going slow, either taking off and accelerating or slowing down. The engine and RPMS rev up and go high with no way of moving when touching the gas pedal then suddenly jerks and takes off with the tires squealing. I am also experiencing the transmission shifting VERY hard, mainly when slowing down. I am feeling very timid and scared to drive this vehicle...this is a seriously dangerous situation and can cause a serious accident or life! I believe this fits into the description of the GM Class Action Lawsuit filed over transmission problems. When I previously talked to the dealership they kept saying that there was no recall for the problems and to bring it in. I am not going to continue to get things fixed that do not fix this problem, as I have already. I know of a friend who has the same vehicle/year only a Tahoe and is experiencing the same problem and had work done at a dealership with no fix for their issue neither. Something has to happen with this problem from GM! The contact stated the issue has gotten worse pushing down the gas pedal rendering the vehicle immobile, then all of a sudden it jerks and shifts into gear jolting the vehicle forward.
Transmission jerks, shifts hard, loses power… Temp gets 199 just driving… Humming sounds, taken to dealer three time… 188,000 miles…
The contact owns a 2017 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that on several occasions while the vehicle was parked, the passenger’s side rear taillight failed to illuminate. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was determined that the full assembly light kit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
Transmission went out in August of 2023, had to have it rebuilt and costed 9,000. Safety was put at risk due to car sputtering to shift gears on the highway while traveling. Problem was identified by the dealership. No light indicators were on. Vehicle now has engine starting to come on periodically and when trying to diagnose it is giving fuel efficiency codes.
Rear brake lights fail due to an issue known by GMC - MULTIPLE GMC YUKON and YUKON XL have this issue. All within the same year. The metal connector in the Brake housing fails and requires it to be soldered or a complete replacement costing consumers $800+ for replacement. A severe safety issue as the Brake Lights quit working!!
At traffic light in drive position, shifting drags when accelerated and hard shift jerk , slipping gears or driving and not shifting at all
Rear tail lights failure.
The air condition lines that feed the rear compartment of the vehicle rub above the rear tire and put a hole in the line. The cost to replace was $2,000. Bad design
LED brake light works intermittently.
The rear taillight has gone out. The LED board has a crack in the soldering causing the entire unit to malfunction.
The contact owns a 2017 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the vehicle was vibrating abnormally. The front of the vehicle was shaking. The contact stated that while at a stoplight with the brake pedal depressed, the vehicle stalled but independently restarted. The engine warning light flashed on and off. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with transmission and engine failure. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was contacted and confirmed there were no recalls on the VIN related to the failure. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
LED brake lights and tail lights not working on passenger side. Partial LED failure on driver side.
service brake assist light, needed to press brake pedal harder to stop, a ticking noise coming from engine compartment.
The retractable side steps on the passenger side retracts while still getting into the vehicle. It almost catches the entire foot in the door. It’s a safety hazard for my children and parents. It is currently an out of pocket expense and my vehicle has less than 55000 miles on it. It has happened multiple time including today.
OUR VEHICLE IS 2017 AND WE HAVE TO REPLACE THE AIR CONDITIONING CONDENSER. I'VE READ THAT THIS A ISSUE WITH THESE VEHICLES AND IT IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR. THIS PROBLEM. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL IN PLACE. WE AS CONSUMERS SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THE NEGLECT OF GMC NOT PROPERLY BUILDING THIS VEHICLE.
The transmission was jerking jumping and was replaced under warranty and it still can not be fixed. Cause the vehicle to jump backward and hard speed.
The passenger taillight failed.
The right side break light works intermittently. It is out more than on. I was informed that there is a shortage in it and the entire assembly has to be replaced. I see countless GMC Yukons with the same light out. This is a huge safety issue.
Tail Brake Light failure The tail brake lights have gone out on a vehicle that isn't 10 years old yet. Tail lights should not go out this quickly and the dealership will kindly replace them at $1300 per tail light. This is absolutely absurd! It is available for inspection. This definitely puts myself and others at risk! Yes, this problem has been confirmed and inspected by a GMC dealer. Advised this is a very common problem with this vehicle. There are no warning lamps or messages to alert when the brake lights have gone out. Instrument Cluster failure The instrument cluster is also faulty in this truck. This is the 2nd time within a year that i have had issues with this. Safety concern is that you will not know if the vehicle is running hot because the gauges stop working. Also runs the battery down as the fan continues to run for about 10 minutes after the vehicle is turned off. Yes, the problem has been confirmed and inspected by a dealer. Advised that this is a very common problem with this vehicle. No, there are no warning lamps or messages to alert you of the problem. You just notice a different noise while driving, the gauges stop working and then when you turn it off, the fan continues to run.
AFTER A 7 HOUR DRIVE ON FREEWAY BRAKES FAILED TO STOP VEHICLE. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO REPAIR SHOP FOR A COMPLETE BRAKE JOB FOR $1800.00. VEHICLE SEEMED TO BE FIXED SO DROVE IT BACK HOME ANOTHER 7 HOURS AND THE EXACT SOME PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN WHILE PARKING IN MY GARAGE.
Transmission, radio is skipping, brakes
Ac just stopped working at 100,000 miles
The contact owns a 2017 GMC Yukon. The contact stated while driving from a complete stop, the vehicle hesitated to respond while shifting from first to second gear. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving at various speeds and depressing the brake pedal, the brake pedal would hesitate to respond, causing a 40-50 feet stopping distance delay. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the failure recurred while driving. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer who advised the contact to take the vehicle back to the Honda dealer where the vehicle was purchased and sold for repair. The vehicle was taken to the Honda dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,564.
2017 Yukon Denali manufactured in 2016. It requires the exact same repairs as the 2016 service bulletin N192291660. My Transmission wiring Harness must be replaced including the gasket and filter. The Global Safety Feild Investigation DCS5461 only included 2016 and not car manufactured in 2016 and labeled as 2017. I have the exact same error codes p0711. The Global Safety Field Investigation was issued in July 29, 2020.
The contact owns a 2017 GMC Yukon. The contact stated while stopped at a traffic light, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to respond. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated a Police Officer assisted in moving the vehicle out of the roadway. The vehicle was not drivable. The contact towed the vehicle to the local dealer however, the mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle has not diagnosed the vehicle nor repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 77,000.
The contact owns a 2017 GMC Yukon. The contact stated while driving at 20 MPH with her daughter in the rear passenger seat, the message "Grade Braking Active" was displayed. The contact stated while making a right turn in an intersection, she depressed the brake pedal to prevent the vehicle from colliding with the vehicle before hers. However, the brake pedal went down to the floorboard and failed to respond. The contact then quickly veered to the right to prevent a crash. The vehicle hit a curb and was propelled to the left across three lanes and crashed into the rear of another vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. The contact sustained bruises on the forehead as she hit her head against the steering wheel. The contact also sustained soreness on the neck and shoulder; however, the contact did not seek medical assistance. The contact's daughter did not sustain any injuries. The occupant of the other vehicle did not sustain injuries. A police report was filed. The contact's uncle met her at the scene and drove the vehicle back to her residence. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they would send a field technician to diagnose the vehicle. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 19V645000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) and 20V603000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact's vehicle remained at her residence. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.
The 2017 GMC Yukon has serious transmission issues that GM continues to ignore, and it is going to get someone hurt. I was stopped at a red light, and when it turned green, I pressed the gas pedal but the car would not move. I pressed harder, and then it suddenly lurched forward about 30 feet. If there had been a car in front of me, I would have hit them and likely caused injuries. When I took it to the dealership, they said it needed a full transmission replacement, which was not covered. I had to pay out of pocket. I was only about $10,000 outside the warranty when it failed, and GM refused to stand behind their product or help in any way. I was already financing the vehicle and should not have had to pay for a new transmission on a car that was less than four years old with relatively low miles. This is not just my experience. Many others have had the same issue. GM knows about it and chooses not to acknowledge it. They are lucky no one has been seriously injured or killed because of it. Going to attach all of the proof of people "coincidentally" experiencing the same issue.
NHTSA Campaign number: 18V586. GM’s number for this recall is 18289
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? - Airbags How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? - Airbags did not deploy during the car accident. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? -No Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? -No Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? - None.
I was stopped at a red light in the left hand turning lane and when the light turned green I proceeded to accelerate and the engine would rev but the car would not move forward so I continued to push on the gas when the car jolted forward Violently. I am lucky no one was in front of me because this would have cause a car accident. Turns out the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced which is a common issue for GM however they never owned up to it and refused to pay to for the cost of the replacement and I paid several thousands out of pocket. This is a major safety concern and could be potentially life threatening. GM should recognize this as a recall and take ownership of a failed transmission with less than 100,000 miles.
Driver’s side rear Tail light stopped working. It’s not even 5 years old. Bought August 2017 Brand new. I know there is a recall on 2015-2016 models for the same problem.
Low speed breaking failure.
-Back brake light system failure. -Safety of a rearend accident compromised when tail light does not work properly. -Yes, a repair shop confirmed the $975 unit needs to be replaced and is on back order for one month putting our safety at risk. -No warning has appeared. A person behind me reported it to me.
My vehicle began shuddering during acceleration and would violently jerk forward after gas pedal was engaged with decreased power in forward acceleration and increase in rpm. This last a couple of weeks. Now, my vehicle is completely broke down and at a GM certified service center. The Service manager states torque converter completely went out and the transmission is burnt up. The mileage is at $61,000, so GM warranty won’t cover it and the company that holds the extended warranty I purchased hasn’t been able to be successfully contacted. There is a “service” bulletin but no recalls and a class action lawsuit (that I’m not a part of) but no recall. My vehicle completely lost power going 50mph on a busy road without warning. This needs to be a recall due to this dangerous circumstance.
First problem started back in May.. it’s went downhill ever since. Hard shifting was happening. GM dealer said I needed a new transmission. Found out from local repair shop that I needed a torque converter ($600) multiple transmission fluid changes (apparently many issues for A Lot of people) changed that. Then had to change Valve Body & TCM. ($540) everything started working but not 100% did a full tune up having multiple misfires constantly then shuttering when idle. Also replaced ECM ($200+)After changing all spark plugs, wires, oil, etc. the AC was having issues had been having issues for months. Kept adding Freon had to replace AC Condenser (works great now, was told by repair shop that’s also very common in these year models. Condensers are all weak in the same spot) just recently October 2022, my instrument cluster started going haywire. Gauges going off and on screens going blank. Had Alternator and battery tested both test fine. No loss of power but when hitting the start/stop vehicle would continue to run and lock and unlock when it wanted. Husband took the alternator out to have it tested again. They tested 3x 1st. Good, 2nd Error, 3rd Bad ( it was overcharging at 16.5V) replaced Alternator ($290) gauges still going haywire, like before it is only sometimes, when they do it’s bad bad.. but I can also drive to town and back 20-30 miles and not the first issue. Just left GM with a new Battery Distribution Fuse Block ($153) because of course it can’t just be a regular ($8-10) mega fuse, hopefully this will fix my issue. We pay too much money for this vehicle to have all of these issues & none be under warranty. I’ve been having the TAILLIGHT ISSUES as well ever since I purchased the car in 2018. When I received the recall on the taillight it was 6 years up to 72,000 & of course my vehicle had 79k miles on it at that time so that’s wasn’t covered.
Passenger brake light stop working. Had the dealer ship inspect the light and was informed that the whole unit had to be replaced at a cost of $1000. so I purchased the part for $800. and replaced it myself tech. informed me that GM had a recall on the 2015 and 2016 model's but has not included the 2017 model year
Rear tail / break light no longer works .
