ABS LIGHT HAS COME ON, THERE IS A GRINDING SOUND WHEN APPLYING BRAKES, AND ABS PUMP IS RUNNING CONSTANTLY WHEN DRIVING.*AK
I BELIEVE A FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH IS CAUSING THIS AND IT IS CURRENTLY BEING RECALLED ON MODELS 1997 AND NEWER. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THIS RECALL EXTENDED AT LEAST TO THE 1995 MODEL. MY CAR EXPERIENCES THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS. I'LL BE TRAVELING ALONG AND THE ENGINE JUST QUIETLY SHUTS DOWN. ABS LIGHT CAME ON 1 DAY AFTER ROUTINE SERVICE. RETURNED TO DEALER AND INFORMED THAT ABS MODULE AND ACCUMULATOR BAD (PUMP RUNNING CONSTANTLY). BLEEDING SYSTEM DIDN'T CHANGE CONDITION. COST TO EXCEED $1450.00 FOR REPAIRS. I HAVE CHECKED THE INTERNET AND HAVE FOUND MANY INSTANCES OF ABS FAILURES WITH HONDA VEHICLES, ALL IN AND AROUND 1995 MODEL VEHICLES. I FEEL THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM THAT HONDA IS AWARE OF BUT ISN'T TELLING ANYONE ABOUT, NOR ARE THEY WILLING TO ASSIST IN THE REPAIR COSTS! THE ABS LIGHT COME ON. THE HONDA DEALER PRICE WAS $1700 TO REPLACE ABS MODULATOR AND ACUMMULATOR. *AK
I RECENTLY WAS A VICTIM OF A HONDA RECALL ON FRONT BALANCER SHAFT SEAL, WHICH CAUSES OIL TO BE RAPIDLY PUMPED OUT ENGINE WITHOUT WARNING, CAUSING SERIOUS ENGINE DAMAGE. I TOOK MY CAR TO EMPIRE HONDA IN DENVER,CO (303)-399-8443. AT EMPIRE HONDA THEY ADMITTED IT WAS THE HONDA RECALL THAT CAUSED ME TO ALMOST WRECK ON THE HIGHWAY. THEY STATED THAT IT WAS COVERED UNDER THE HONDA RECALL AND THEY STARTED TO MAKE REPAIRS. WHEN THEY DISCOVERED THAT I NEEDED A NEW ENGINE, THEY STATED THEY WOULD ONLY COVER 1/3 OF THE COST. WHICH IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE, BECAUSE PROBLEM NEVER WOULD HAVE OCCURRED IF IT WERE NOT FOR THE "DEFECT" IN HONDA CARS. I HAVE THE PAPERS ON THE HONDA RECALL THAT STATES HONDA IS SUPPOST TO REPLACE MY ENGINE AT NO COST (FRONT BALANCER SHAFT OIL SEAL REPLACEMENT PG. 5 "D"). I KNOW YOU HAVE ACCESS TO THESE PAPERS PLEASE LOOK AT THEM, SO YOU CAN SEE THAT I AM CORRECT. HONDA IS TRYING TO WEASEL THEIR WAY OUT OF TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE "DEFECTS" IN HONDA CARS. WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH THE OIL DRAINED FROM THE VEHICLE, CAUSING ENGINE TO LOCK UP. DEALER DETERMINED THAT PLUG FROM ENGINE HOUSING CAME OUT. *AK WHILE DRIVING THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT ILLUMINATED, VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE OR RESPOND, ENGINE LOCKED UP, CONSUMER WAS NOT ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, DEALER REPLACED THE TIMING BELT, BALANCER SHAFT BELT, BALANCER SHAFT SEAL AND A RETAINER WAS PUT IN TO HOLD THE SHAFT SEAL IN PLACE, CONSUMER HAS BEEN INFORMED THAT A NEW ENGINE IS NEEDED, CONSUMER STATES THERE ARE TWO BULLETINS REGARDING THE FRONT BALANCER SHAFT SEAL AND THE FRONT BALANCER SEAL, HOWEVER HONDA WILL ONLY PAY 1/3 OF THE ENGINE REPLACEMENT COST. FAULTY BRAKES WERE CAUSING A NOISE IN THE RIGHT FRONT, DEALER MACHINED ROTORS AND SERVICED FRONT BRAKES. *SLC
WHILE DRIVING AND UPON PRESSING DOWN ON BRAKES, VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER. PROBLEM WAS NOT REMEDIED. *AK CONSUMER WAS PARKING INTO A PARKING SPACE WITH HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE WHEN VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED OVER A CURB, VEHICLE WAS STOPPED BY AN ELEVATED SIDEWALK. *SLC
WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE CAR WITH OUR CHILD AT AROUND 25 MPH, THERE WAS A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE, THE CAR SLOWED DOWN AND STARTED SHAKING ALONG WITH LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL AND POWER INTO THE WHEELS. SHE MANAGED TO STEER THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO A STOP AND UPON VISUAL INSPECTION THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL WAS TIPPED AND LOOKED AS IF IT HAD DECOUPLED FROM THE AXLE, AND THE FRONT SUSPENSION HAD DROPPED ON THE RIGHT SIDE. THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER AND WHILE THE CAR WAS BEING LIFTED ON THE TOW TRUCK I NOTICED METALLIC SHAVINGS THAT LOOKED LIKE WEAR DEBRIS COMING OUT OF THE VICINITY OF THE FRONT RIGHT WHEEL. THE DEALER HAS INFORMED ME THAT THE LOWER BALL JOINT WAS DESTROYED, AND THE BALL JOINT, THE FRONT AXLE AND THE CONTROL ARM NEED TO BE CHANGED. I ASKED THE DEALER IF THERE HAD BEEN ANY SIGNS OF CORROSION AND THEY SAID NO. THE CAR HAD ALSO UNDERGONE A MAJOR SERVICING ABOUT 2 MONTHS BACK AT THE SAME DEALERSHIP AND NOTHING WAS NOTICED AT THAT TIME. THE FAILURE APPEARS HIGHLY UNUSUAL SINCE THIS IS A 7 YEAR OLD CAR THAT HAS BEEN DEALER-SERVICED REGULARLY AND THERE WERE NO PRIOR SIGNS OF AN IMPENDING, SUDDEN FAILURE. IF THE CAR HAD BEEN GOING AT A HIGHER SPEED THE CONSEQUENCES COULD HAVE BEEN DANGEROUS DUE TO THE LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL EXPERIENCED.*AK
THE SRS LIGHT FAILED AND THE 02 SENOR EMISSION LIGHT REPLACED. THE TIMING BELT, WATER PUMP AND BELTS WERE REPLACED. *BF THE BATTERY WAS FOUND BAD. *SC
ABS LIGHT COMES ON AFTER SYSTEM ATTEMPTS TO BUILD PRESSURE. VERY COMMON PROBLEM AMONG HONDAS OF THIS AND OTHER YEARS. *AK
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE LOST ALL OIL AND ENGINE SEIZED. DEALER HAS YET TO BE CONTACTED. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS.*AK
WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE AT APROXIMATELY 70MPH, BOTH DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. THE PASSENGER AIRBAG SHATTERED THE WINDSHIELD. I SUFFERED MILD ABRASION TO THE HAND, RINGING IN RIGHT EAR, AND SMOKE INHALATION.*AK
DRIVER'S SEAT BELT MECHANISM FAILED TO RELEASE LATCH PLATE AFTER BEING USED. HAD TAKEN VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP, AND WAS INFORMED BY MECHANIC THAT NO PARTS WERE AVAILABLE. PARTS WOULD BE ORDERED FOR REPAIRS. *AK
HEARD A BOOM, LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG HAD DEPLOYED CAUSING MY WINDSHIELD TO SHATTER. DRIVERSIDE AIRBAG WAS DEPLOYED AND SMOKE WAS COMMING OUT OF THE STEERING WHEEL.
METRIC RADIAL STEEL BELTED, P185/70R14, DOT UNKNOWN, REPLACEMENT EQUIPMENT WITH 4000-5000 MILES ON A 1995, HONDA, ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH RIGHT REAR TIRE HAD A BLOWOUT. NO ACCIDENT, NO DAMAGE.*AK *SLC
THE TRANSMISSION BLOCKED THE WHEELS DURING A SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 50MPH. THE DRIVER LOST CONTROL AND CAME TO A PROMPT STOP. HE WAS ALMOST HIT BY THE CAR BEHIND HIM. NO PROBLEMS WITH TRANSMISSION WERE NOTICED BEFORE THIS INCIDENT. *AK
RESTRAINT BELT RETRACTOR FOR THE RIGHT REAR PASSENGER POSITION HAS FAILED. DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED PROBLEM OVER THE PHONE, AND HAS NOT EXAMINED VEHICLE. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION / DOCUMENTATION. *AK
A VALVE CONNECTED TO ENGINE BROKE, CAUSING DAMAGE TO CYLINDER HEAD. *AK
BRAKE PEDAL CAN GO TO THE FLOOR BEFORE IT STOPS INCREASING STOPPPING DISTANCES. DEALER FOUND BRAKE FLUID LEAKING, AND ABS ACCUMULATOR MODULATOR HAD TO BE REPLACED. PLEASE ADDED THE VIN #.*AK
CONSUMER STATED THAT WHILE SON WAS DRIVING ABOUT 65 MPH THE REAR BRAKES LOCKED UP, CAUSING VEHICLE TO ROLL UP A FEW TIMES. DEALER HAD REPLACED ABS MODULE TWICE, AND COULD NOT EXPLAIN WHAT HAD HAPPENED WITH THE BRAKES.*AK
WHEN BRAKING HE HAS TO PUMP BRAKE PEDAL VERY HARD TO GET BRAKING ACTION, DEALER REPLACED MASTER CYLINDER.*AK
RED LIGHT ON DASH ILLUMINATED. TOOK TO DEALER, AND THEY STATED THAT COMPUTER FOR AIRBAG DIED, AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. DRIVER FELT THIS WAS VERY UNSAFE BECAUSE THIS LIGHT WARNED DRIVER THAT THERE MIGHT BE A PROBLEM WITH AIRBAG.THERE WAS A RECALL 96 V 217 000 ON ANOTHER MODEL FOR SAME PROBLEM.*AK

THE ABS LIGHT INDICATOR HAS COME ON IN THE VEHICLE. THE ABS BRAKES ARE NOT WORKING. HAVE HAD AN INDEPENDANT MECHANIC LOOK AT IT AND TOLD US THIS IS A FAIRLY COMMON PROBLEM HONDA IS HAVING. WE HAVE NOT BEEN INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT BUT ARE BEING VERY CAUTIOUS.*AK
BRITTLE FRACTURE TO THE KEY WAY HOLDING CAM GEAR IN PLACE ON END OF THE CAMSHAFT. *AK
DEALER SAID THE REQUIRED PART IS ON A NATIONAL BACKORDER AND HE CAN NOT ESTIMATE WHEN THEY WILL BE ABLE TO REPAIR THE CAR.*AK
ABS SYSTEM FAILURE
ABS DASHBOARD LIGHT CAME ON ONE DAY, ASSOCIATED WITH A GRUMBLING NOISE FROM THE FRONT WHEELS. THE DEALER SAID THAT SOMETIMES THESE PROBLEMS WENT AWAY BY BLEEDING THE BRAKES, BUT THAT USUALLY DIDN'T WORK FOR LONG. I NOW SUSPECT THAT THE PROBLEM PROBABLY OCCURRED BEFORE WE BOUGHT THE CAR, THEY BLED THE BRAKES TO GET THE LIGHT OFF, AND IT "APPEARED" (RE-APPEARED!) AFTER I BOUGHT IT...BUT I HAVE NO PROOF OF THAT. THE DEALER WANTS $1500 TO REPLACE THE MODULATOR AND ACCUMULATOR. I'VE SINCE SEEN ENOUGH COMPLAINTS ON THIS TO SUSPECT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH HONDA ABS SYSTEMS IN GENERAL. I DO NOT BELIEVE THESE ARE "WEAROUT" COMPONENTS. *AK
ON THURSDAY MAY 10, 2001 AROUND 12:05 PM, THE STARTER ON OUR 1995 HONDA ACCORD (@76,000 MILES) ENGAGED WHILE NO ONE OR THE KEY WAS IN THE CAR. MYSELF AND AT LEAST TWO OTHER PEOPLE WITNESSED THE CAR CLIMB A FOUR INCH CURB AND MOVE APPROXIMATELY 35 FT WITH THE PARKING BRAKE APPLIED. THE CAR WAS STOPPED WITH FOOT BRAKE. IT STARTED TO SMOKE. THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT HOOD WAS RAISED TO FIND THE STARTER AND CABLES IN FLAMES. A HAND HELD CO2 FIRE EXTINGUISHER WAS USED TO PUT OUT THE FIRE TWICE. THE LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED AND UNHOOKED THE BATTERY. WE HAD THE CAR TOWED TO RICK WOODSON HONDA, PETERS CREEK ROAD, ROANOKE, VA. THIS CAR HAS NEVER BEEN WRECKED. THERE HAS NEVER BEEN ANY WORK DONE ON THE STARTER. IT HAS NEVER FAILED TO START NOR HAS THE STARTER SYSTEM EVER REQUIRED CHECKING. OTHER THAN MOTOR OIL AND A BATTERY REPLACED ON NOVEMBER 4, 1999, EVERY MAINTENANCE PART HAS COME FROM HONDA. ONLY A HONDA DEALER OR MY HUSBAND HAS EVER HAD THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT HOOD UP ON THIS CAR. IT HAS NEVER REQUIRED A JUMP-START NOR HAS IT JUMP STARTED ANOTHER VEHICLE. I HAVE DRIVEN 95% OF THE MILES ACCUMULATED ON THIS CAR. THIS CAR WAS PURCHASED FROM CLEVELAND VILLAGE HONDA, CLEVELAND TENNESSEE ON JUNE 24, 1995. THE CAR HAD SLIGHTLY OVER 6,000 MILES ON IT AND WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN DRIVEN BY THE SERVICE MANAGER.*AK
ABS SYSTEM IS LEAKING FLUID. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK CONSUMER FEELS THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND THAT A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED. *SLC

AFTER TAKING VEHICLE IN TO DEALER TO GET SERVICED DEALER NOTED THAT ENGINE BLOCK HAD A CRACK, AND IT WAS LEAKING OIL ONTO ENGINE.*AK
AIRBAG LIGHT REMAINS ON WHENEVER VEHICLE IS ON. CONSUMER FEELS THERE MAY BE A PROBLEM WITH AIRBAG.*AK
THE ABS LIGHT WENT ON, DEALER INSPECTED IT AND DETERMINED THAT IT WAS THE ABS MODULATOR THAT WENT BAD. AN ESTIMATE OF $1800 TO REPLACE IT WAS MADE. DEALER DID NOT OFFER ASSISSTANCE WITH COST, REPAIR WAS NOT MADE.*AK

TRANSMISSION FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. CAR WAS IN DEALERSHIP FOR NINE DAYS. THE NEXT DAY SRS WARNING LIGHT WENT ON, AND WOULD NOT TURN OFF. RETURNED TO DEALERSHIP. DEALER SAID IT HAD NEVER BEEN RECALLED, AND IT WAS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. I PAID OVER $600 TO HAVE REPAIR DONE, SINCE I WAS ADVISED THE AIRBAG WOULD NOT DEPLOY IF THE REPAIR WAS NOT DONE . RESEARCH ON NHTSA WEBSITE FOUND OVER 50 COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. ALSO FOUND INDICATIONS THAT RECALL NOTICE 96 V 317000 ADDRESSED A PROBLEM WITH THE SRS. I NEVER RECEIVED THIS NOTICE. I HAVE CALLED ZONE OFFICE FIVE TIMES AND LEFT MESSAGES. NO ONE HAS RETURNED A CALL. ALSO ASKED THE HONDA OF LISLE SERVICE MANAGER TO CONTACT ZONE OFFICE FOR ME, WAS NOT DONE. SERVICE MANAGER WOULD NOT GIVE ME THE NAME OF THE DEALERSHIP'S OWNER TO CONTACT TO TRY TO RESOLVE.*AK
AIR BAG SENSOR LIGHT REMAINED ON WHILE DRIVING, DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK THE COMPUTER FAILURE CAUSED THE FRONT AIR BAGS TO FAIL. CONSUMER STATED THAT THE DEALER REFUSED TO REPAIR THE COMPUTER SYSTEM FREE OF CHARGE BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY, HOWEVER THE MILEAGE WAS LOW.*YH

WHILE SITTING AT A LIGHT CONSUMER WAS REAR ENDED WHICH FORCED THE VEHICLE FOWARD TO HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE, THE TWO FRONT PASSENGER SEATS COLLAPSED DURING THE FIRST PORTION OF THE COLLISON FORCING THE TWO FRONT OCCUPANTS TO BE LYING DOWN FLAT AS THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO COLLIDE WITH THE VEHICLE DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF IT, ALL THREE OCCUPANTS SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES (DAUGHTER ON BEHALF OF MOTHER). *JB
1995, HONDA, ACCORD EX HAD AN IGNITION PROBLEM. CONSUMER COULD REMOVE THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION WHILE IT STAYED IN PARK. *AK
ABS LIGHT ON. ABS FAILED ON APPLICATION ON ICY ROAD. DEALER DETERMINED ABS MODULATOR WAS LEAKING. I NOTICE THERE ARE COMPLAINTS BY OTHER OWNERS REGARDING THIS MATTER.
