I STARTED THE IGNITION OF MY 1996 HONDA ACCORD EX AND THE PASSENGER AIRBAG DEPLOYED UNEXPECTEDLY. THE EXPLOSION WAS VERY LOUD AND CRACKED THE WINDSHIELD OF THE CAR. I WAS NOT MOVING AT THE TIME. THE CAR WAS STILL IN PARK WITH THE BRAKE ON. I GOT VERY SCARED.
ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS, WITH DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS AND SRS SYSTEMS WHEEL ALIGNMENT BRAKE PROBLEMS, TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS YES , PARTS WERE REPLACED, REPAIRED BUT I STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS, AFTER SPENDING THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. *NM
SHOULDN'T SAFETY EQUIPMENT BE REPAIRED BY MANUFACTURER AT NO COST TO CONSUMER IF CONSUMER HAS DONE NOTHING TO CAUSE MALFUNCTION? MY SRS LIGHT AND ABS LIGHT IS ON(1996 HONDA ACCORD EX). MY HONDA DEALER WANTS $1000+ TO FIX THE SRS LIGHT AND $1500-$1700 TO REPLACE THE ABS MODULATOR/ACCUMULATOR. I HAD THE CAR FOR 3 WEEKS WHEN THE FIRST PROBLEM LIGHT CAME ON AND NOW I HAVE TWO SAFETY PROBLEMS. CAN YOU HELP ME OUT ON THIS? *JB
SRS LIGHT STAYS ON. IS THEIR RECALL ON THIS?*JB
FAULTY IGNITION SWITCH...RECURRENT INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. FAILS TO START. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING OFF AND ON FOR YEARS. SOMETIMES THE KEY SENSOR SENSES A KEY IN THE IGNITION WHEN A KEY ISN'T INSERTED, THUS A BEEPING SOUND WHEN THE DOOR IS OPENED EVEN IF THE KEY IS NOT IN THE IGNITION. CAR HAS SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE YEARS. *TR
MY CAR (1996, HONDA ACCORD EX) WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY AFTER THE LAST TIME IT WAS DRIVEN PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. THE NEXT WE NOTICED WAS THE CAR WAS ROLLED OFF THE DRIVEWAY (IN REVERSE) AND HAD CLIMBED THE CURB (BOTH REAR AND FRONT WHEELS) AND ENDED UP ON THE LAWN OF THE HOUSE ACROSS THE STREET FROM OUR HOUSE. ADDITIONALLY THE CARS GEAR WAS NOT IN PARK (MY SON WHO DROVE THE CAR BACK TO OUR DRIVEWAY FROM THE LAWN FAILED TO NOTICE IN HIS HASTE AND EXCITEMENT WHAT THE GEAR WAS IN). ADDITIONALLY NOW THE CARS GEAR CAN BE SWITCHED WITHOUT THE FOOT ON THE BRAKE. ALSO, THE IGNITION KEY CAN BE TURNED AND THE CAR STARTED WITHOUT THE FOOT ON THE BRAKE. FORTUNATELY NOBODY WAS HURT IN THE INCIDENT.
IGNITION SWITCH ON MY 1996 ACCORD SEDAN IS SOMETIMES FAULTY/INTERMITTENT. I WOULD TURN THE KEY TO THE ON POSITION AND THE ENGINE IS TOTALLY SILENT, WILL NOT CRANK OVER. I WOULD DO THIS UNTIL THE ENGINE CRANKS OVER AND TURNS ON. THE PROBLEM IS STILL INTERMITTENT TO THIS DAY. *NM
THE LAP BUCKLE OF THE HARNESS ON THE CAR SEAT UNLATCHED DURING AN ACCIDENT. *JB THE CONSUMER CHECKED HER SON AFTER THE ACCIDENT AND FOUND HIM UNDONE. THE VEHICLE WAS PUSHED INTO A CURB. *SC *JB
I HAVE A 1996 HONDA ACCORD WITH 121,000 MILE. WHEN I PULLED INTO PARKING SPACE TODAY MY ENGINE REVVED AND WOULD NOT STOP. IT HYDRO PLANED OVER A SIDEWALK AND HIT A BUILDING, THEN BOUNCED OFF BUILDING WHILE I WAS HITTING THE BRAKES, AND THEY WOULD NOT STOP THE CAR. THERE WERE JUST MINOR INJURIES. *AK
PASSENGER'S SIDE DOOR WILL NOT CLOSE PROPLERY. THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT STAYES ON WHILE DRIVING. APPOINTMENT WILL BE MADE FOR THE DEALER.*AK
THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED. *JB *NM

WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH CONSUMER HEARD NOISE COMING FROM FRONT END. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC WHO NOTICED SMOKE AND SPARKS EMITTING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. ADDITIONALLY HE NOTICED THAT THE LINING OVER ONE OF THE WHEELS HAD FALLEN OFF AND THE WIRES WERE EXPOSED, TOUCHING THE TIRE. RECALL 98V231000 WAS INITIATED REGARDING AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE EXHIBITED THE SAME SYMPTOMS AS THE RECALL. THE FAILURE CAUSED PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE'S A/C AND BATTERY, CD PLAYER, BLINKERS, LIGHT, ETC. *AK
INTERMITTENTLY WHILE PARKING VEHICLE EXPERIENCED SUDDEN ACCELERATION WHEN SHIFTING FROM PARK INTO REVERSE, CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO PUT VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND CUT OFF THE ENGINE. *AK *TS
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR WILL NOT AUTOMATICALLY LOCK/UNLOCK FROM THE DRIVER SIDE CONTROLS, IT MUST BE PERFORMED MANUALLY. THE VEHICLE IS NOT EQUIPPED WITH A REMOTE LOCKING DEVICE. THE CONTACT IS NOT THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND THE PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED SINCE DATE OF PURCHASE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND DETERMINED THE DOOR ACTUATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT BEEN CONTACTED. *AK UPDATED 5/16/2006 - *NM
SRS LIGHT CAME ON FOR 1996 HONDA ACCORD V6 EX WITHOUT ANY INCIDENT. DEALER DIAGNOSED AND COULD NOT UNDERSTAND THE ERROR CODE AND SUGGESTED REPLACEMENT OF SRS CONTROL UNIT. NOT CHANGING THE SRS CONTROL UNIT MIGHT CAUSE AIRBAGS NOT INFLATE WHEN REQUIRED. THE COST OF REPAIR IS $800 AND NOT NECESSARY IT WOULD FIX THE ISSUE. I SEARCHED ONLINE AND FOUND THIS IS VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH ACCORDS. SUCH SAFETY RELATED PROBLEMS SHOULD BE RECALLED BY HONDA.
1996 HONDA ACCORD WITH 48000 MILES: ABS SYSTEM LIGHT COMES ON; EXPENSIVE PART TO REPLACE; SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH OTHER ACCORDS. *AK
GOOD AFTERNOON, I HAVE A 1996 HONDA ACCORD LX 4 DOORS. THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW USE TO WORK FINE, AND AS TIME WENT BY, IT BEGAN TO ROLL UP VERY SLOWLY, ABOUT 10 SECONDS. NOW, IT WOULDN'T ROLL UP ANYMORE. MY WINDOW IS STILL DOWN RIGHT NOW. I BELIEVE IT WORKS FINE ROLLING DOWN, BUT IT CANT ROLL BACK UP. I'VE SEARCHED ONLINE FOR WHAT THE POSSIBLE REASONS ARE, AND I CAME UPON SEVERAL FORUMS WHERE PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AS ME. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE A RECALL ON THIS WINDOW PROBLEM SOON. *AK
WHILE VEHICLE WAS PARKED/RUNNING FRONT AIR BAGS INADVERTENTLY DEPLOYED, SHATTERING THE FRONT WINDSHIELD. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
WHILE PULLING OUT OF THE DRIVE WAY, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHO COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER SUGGESTED THAT THE CONSUMER REPLACE THE SPARK PLUGS. *MR
I OWN A 1996 HONDA ACCORD AND IT HAS BEEN A RELIABLE CAR UNTIL RECENTLY. IT HAS BEEN REGULARLY MAINTED. I WAS DRIVING TO WORK WHEN THE CAR KEPT ACTING LIKE IT WAS GOING TO STALL WHEN I HIT THE GAS. IT FINALLY STALLED WHILE I WAS DRIVING TO WORK AT 55 MILES PER HOUR. AFTER TAKING IT TO THE HONDA DEALER AND SPENDING $300 FOR REPAIRS WHICH INCLUDED REPLACEMENT OF SPARK PLUGS, FUEL INDUCTION SERVICE AND THROTTLE BODY CLEANING, THE CAR WAS STILL NOT REPAIRED. AFTER THE CAR WOULD NOT START, I MYSELF REPLACED THE DISTRIBUTOR CAP, ROTOR AND IGNITION COIL. IT IS NOW SITTING AT A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO FIGURED OUT THE PROBLEM WAS THE DISTRIBUTOR ASSEMBLY. SO $1,000.00 LATER MY CAR IS FIXED BUT I STILL FEEL VERY UNSAFE DRIVING IT AND WILL NEVER TRUST IT AGAIN.*AK
ANTI-LOCK BRAKES. ELECTRICAL-HEADLIGHTS, POWER WINDOWS-DRIVER SIDE FAILED. *AK
WHILE BRAKING ABS PUMP FAILED. THIS CAUSED EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM.*AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WILL NOT AUTOMATICALLY LOCK/UNLOCK USING THE REMOTE LOCKING DEVICE IT MUST BE PERFORMED MANUALLY. THIS BEGAN AS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM BUT GRADUALLY GOT WORSE. THE DEALERSHIP INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DETERMINED THE ACTUATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. WHEN THE DRIVER STARTED THE VEHICLE THE DASHBOARD CAUGHT ON FIRE AND THE DOORS AUTOMATICALLY LOCKED. SOMEHOW THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND THE FIRE DEPARTMENT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE HAS NOT BEEN DETERMINED. *NM
OIL FROM MY 1996 HONDA ACCORD POURED OUT OF THE FRONT BALANCER SEAL WHILE WARMING UP IN MY DRIVEWAY. LUCKILY I NOTICED IT BEFORE I HAD ENGINE TROUBLE. I HAD IT TOWED TO MY MECHANIC'S SHOP AND HAD IT REPAIRED FOR ABOUT $500. MY MECHANIC SAID THAT THE BALANCER SEAL HAD WORKED ITSELF OUT AND SITTING ON THE CRANKSHAFT. I HAVE ONLY 68900 MILES ON IT. *AK
A METAL ROD THAT SUPPORTS THE TRUNK HAD SHEARED OFF, CAUSING THE TRUNK TO FALL DOWN. CONSUMER DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR ANALYSIS, WHERE THE MECHANIC NOTICED THAT THE METAL ROD NEEDED REPLACEMENT DUE TO A WORN OUT PART.*AK
SRS LIGHT COMES ON AT START UP AND STAYS ON. ABS LIGHT COMES ON AND COSTS OVER A $1000.00 TO REPLACE MODULATOR. THIS IS RIDICULOUS!!!*AK
AFTER THE SEAL BROKE, OIL DRAINED FROM THE ENGINE AND CAUSED SOME DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. *PH THERE WAS A PRODUCT UPDATE REGARDING THE SHAFT OIL SEAL, HOWEVER THE CONSUMER WAS NEVER NOTIFIED BECAUSE HE WAS NOT THE ORIGINAL OWNER. *JB
WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE DIED AND WOULD NOT START. VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP AND AFTER DIAGNOSTIC TEST IT WAS A MECHANICAL PROBLEM IN WHICH THERE HAD BEEN A PRODUCT RECALL. *LA *MR
I BOUGHT THE CAR ON OCT 22ND, AND ON THE SECOND DAY IT STALLED BECAUSE OF WRONG FUSE BEING PLACED IN THE CAR. DURING THAT CHECK UP I FOUND OUT THAT THE CAR HAS HAD EXTENSIVE BODY DAMAGE AND NONE OF THIS IS SHOWN UP IN CARFAX REPORT AND ALSO THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE CAR WAS NEVER INVOLVED IN ANY ACCIDENT. SO I WANT TO RETURN THE CAR UNDER CONSUMER FRAUD.
WHILE DRIVING THE ABS WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED. *PH THE DEALER REPLACED THE ABS ACCUMULATOR AND MODULATOR. *NM
ABS IS FAILING DUE TO FLUID LEAK AND LACK OF PRESSURE. THIS CAR IS RELATIVELY YOUNG AND SHOULD NOT BE EXPERIENCING THIS TYPE OF DEFECT. THE NUMBER OF RELATED POSTINGS FOR THIS PROBLEM WOULD INDICATE A SITUATION DESERVING FURTHER INVESTIGATION. LOSS OF ABS CAN RESULT IN LOSS OF CONTROL AND CONSIDERABLE INJURY.*AK
WHEN CAR WAS TURNED ON YOU HEARD A WEED EATER NOISE FOR ABOUT A MINUTE AND THEN NOISE WNET AWAY AND THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP AND HAD TO HAVE THE ABS MODULATOR AND ACCUMULTOR REPLACED. DEALER THOUGHT IT WAS ODD FOR A DAR WITH NOT THAT MANY MILES ON IT. THEN LOOKED ON INTERNET AND SAW MANY REPORTS OF THE SAME THING. I THINK THE ABS SHOULD BE RECALLED IN 1996 ACCORDS. *AK
DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW REGULATOR CABLE BROKE. NO REASON/ABUSE. ENTIRE UNIT REPLACED FOR $400.00. *AK
KEY COMES OUT OF IGNITION WITHOUT TRANSMISSION IN PARK. CAR IS A 1996 HONDA ACCORD. *JB
WHILE DEALERSHIP MECHANIC DROVE THE VEHICLE INTO THE SHOP FOR REPAIRS SEAL BALANCE SHAFT BLEW OUT, CAUSING OIL TO LEAK FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. *AK
THE REAR SEAT BELT BECAME TANGLED AND LOCKED AROUND A CHILD'S NECK. THE MORE THE CONSUMER PULLED TO RELEASE THE BELT THE MORE IT TIGHTENED. THE BELT HAD TO BE CUT FOR IT TO UNLOCK. THE CHILD SUSTAINED BRUISES FROM HIS CHIN TO HIS SHOULDERS. *AK *TS *NLM
ON AUGUST 19, 2003 THE OIL LIGHT ON MY CAR STARTED FLASHING. I CHECKED MY OIL AND NONE WAS TOUCHING THE OIL STICK. I CALLED WADE'S HONDA WHICH IS A SERVICE CENTER IN CLINTON, NC. MR. WADE CAME OUT AND CHECKED MY CAR AT WHICH TIME HE FOUND THAT THERE WAS A LEAK IN MY OIL SHAFT. HE TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM, BUT THE CAMPAIGN HAD ENDED. I ADVISED HIM THAT I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF ANY RECALL. MR. WADE CALLED AMERICAN HONDA AND WAS TOLD THAT I WAS NOTIFIED BY MAIL, BUT THE NOTICE CAME BACK AS UNDELIVERABLE. THIS NOTICE WAS SENT TO MY RESIDENCE ADDRESS (307 CARLTON STREET). I RECEIVE MY MAIL AT THE ABOVE OFFICE BOX ADDRESS. I HAVE BEEN LIVING AT THIS ADDRESS FOR 25 PLUS YEARS AND HAVE HAD THE SAME MAILING ADDRESS SINCE I MOVED HERE. I CALLED AMERICAN HONDA MYSELF AND WAS TOLD THE SAME THING. MY COMPLAINT IS: I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS DOCUMENTED THAT THE NOTICE WAS UNDELIVERABLE; THAT IS PROOF THAT I NEVER RECEIVED IT. I FEEL THAT AMERICAN HONDA SHOULD REIMBURSE ME $139.00 FOR THAT REASON. I ALSO CHECKED THE INTERNET FOR OTHER RECALLS AND THERE WAS ONE IN 1999 REGARDING VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL AND ANOTHER ONE IN 1998 ABOUT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: WIRING:FRONT UNDERHOOD THAT I NEVER RECEIVED OR HAD KNOWLEDGE OF. *LA
FAILURE OF GOODYEAR TIRE. (TREAD SEPARATION) EAGLE HP P195/60R15 GDY ( DOT PJV9 MAJR 3400) PURCHASED AND INSTALLED NEW ON 9/19/2001. I HAVE THIS TIRE STORED AND WILL SHIP TO NHSTA AT MY EXPENSE IF REQUESTED.
WHILE DRIVING AND WITHOUT WARNING, THE ABS WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK THERE WAS NO BRAKING FLUID IN THE RESERVOIR. THE BRAKE FLUID LEAKED FROM THE ABS MODULATOR. TSB#96-050. *SCC *JB
DRIVER SIDE POWER WINDOW CABLE SNAPPED.*MR *JB
WHEN YOU STEP ON THE GAS TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP, THE CAR BOGS DOWN, GOES VERY SLOWLY - LIKE IT IS WORKING VERY HARD TO ACCELERATE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND THE SQUARE AROUND THE D4 GEAR FLASHES. THE CAR EVENTUALLY GETS UP TO SPEED AND WILL CONTINUE WITHOUT A PROBLEM UNTIL YOU STOP AGAIN. THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. I HAVE BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER AT LEAST 7 TIMES FOR THIS. I HAVE NEVER BEEN CHARGED FOR THE REPAIRS BUT I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THE PROBLEM RESOLVED. I AM AFRAID I AM GOING TO GET HIT BY ANOTHER CAR IF I PULL OUY AND SUDDENLY HAVE POWER.
ABS LIGHT ON 1996 HONDA COMES ON AFTER 1-2 MILES AFTER STARTING VEHICLE. PUMP MAKES NOISE AFTER STARTING VEHICLE. SLIGHT LEAK. A HONDA SPECIALTY SHOP HAS ALREADY REPLACED THE RESEVOIR AND TORQUED THE O-RINGS, BUT THE LIGHT CONTINUES TO COME ON. THE HONDA DEALER SAYS THAT THE MODULATOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACEE AT A COST OF $1100. AFTER RESEARCHING THE INTERNET THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A BIG PROBLEM FOR 94-96 HONDA ACCORDS, EXPECIALLY THOSE MANUFACTURED IN OHIO WITH THE VIN# BEGINNING WITH 1HG, WHICH MY CAR IS ONE OF THOSE VECHICLES FROM OHIO. THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A DEFECT WITH THIS UNIT AND THIS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED BY YOUR OFFICE FOR A POSSIBLE RECALL. HONDA SHOULD TAKE CARE OF THIS PROBLEM FOR THEIR COMSUMERS. PLEASE ADVISE ON ANY ACTIONS.*AK
TWO MAJOR SAFETY RELATED PROBLEMS REGARDING TO THE SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM. IN JULY 2000 THE SRS SYSTEM FAILED DUE TO A FAULTY CONTROL UNIT. IN JULY 2003 THE SYSTEM AGAIN FAILED AND WAS DIAGNOSED AS A NON-FUNCTIONING PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG.*AK
I HAD A 1996 HONDA ACCORD STATION WAGON. I HAVE AN INFANT WHO NEEDS TO BE REAR FACING IN HER CAR SEAT. THERE ARE NO TETHER ANCHORS FOR THIS VEHICLE FOR A REAR FACING INFANT CAR SEAT IN THE REAR SEAT OF THE VEHICLE. *NLM

ABS AND AIR BAG SAFETY SYSTEM FAILED AT THE SAME TIME ON A 1996 HONDA ACCORD W/ 90,000 MILES. *JB
WITHOUT WARNING THE AIR BAG AND THE ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND STAYED ON THE ENTIRE TIME THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. *JB
