AFTER OWNING THE VEHICLE FOR TWO DAYS IT BROKE DOWN ON THE HIGHWAY. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO REPLACED THE BATTERY AND THE ALTERNATOR. ON ANOTHER OCCASION, THE VEHICLE BROKE DOWN DUE TO AN ALTERNATOR BOLT BREAKING. IT WAS REPLACED. ON A THIRD OCCASION, THE SERPENTINE BELT FAILED. CURRENTLY, VEHICLE IS AT DEALERS SHOP AGAIN BECAUSE IT WILL NOT START.*AK *JB *NLM
I AM HAVING MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH MY TRANSMISSION AND IT SHOULD NOT BEING A 1999.*AK
MY 1999 HONDA ACCORD EX ROLLED BACKWARDS AFTER I LEFT IT PARKED ON A LEVEL SURFACE. I WAS ABLE TO REMOVE THE KEYS FROM THE IGNITION AND LOCK THE CAR EVEN THOUGH THE CAR WAS LEFT IN NEUTRAL. THE CAR ROLLED BACK 15-20 FEET AND WAS STOPPED BY SOME LARGE BUSHES AND SMALL TREES. I PRESENTED THE VEHICLE TO MY HONDA DEALER TO INSPECT THE CAR AFTER THE NHTSA RECALL WAS ANNOUNCED. THE DEALER DECLINED TO INSPECT THE IGNITION INTERLOCK BECAUSE HONDA WOULD NOT AUTHORIZE AN INSPECTION SINCE CAR WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL. I HAVE SPENT ROUGHLY $100 TO FIX THE PUNCTURED TAIL LIGHT COVER (BECAUSE TRUNK WOULD FLOOD WHEN IT RAINED). THERE WAS DAMAGE TO THE TRUNK, REAR BUMPER, AND SIDE PANELS AROUND THE TRUNK. I WOULD ESTIMATE THE BODY DAMAGE REPAIR COSTS BETWEEN $1-2K. THE IGNITION INTERLOCK HAS NOT BEEN MODIFIED SINCE THE ROLLBACK INCIDENT. VEHICLE WILL STALL AT ANY SPEED WITH NO PRIOR WARNING. OWNER HAS MADE CONTACT WITH THE DEALER ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS, BUT THE PROBLEM STILL PERSISTS.*AK
I'M HAVING PROBLEMS WITH BOTH THE IGNITION AND MY DOOR LOCKS. I TOOK MY VEHICLE BACK FOR THE RECALL, BUT I AM STILL HAVING PROBLEMS WITH STALLING, BUT MORESO WITH THE CAR ATTEMPTING TO TURN OFF. I GET FLICKERING OF ALL THE INDICATOR LIGHTS, AND IF I DO NOT HIT THE GAS PEDAL, THE CAR SHUTS OFF COMPLETELY. I ALSO HAVE AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH MY DOORS NOT LOCKING FROM THE DRIVER'S SIDE. WHEN I HIT THE LOCK BUTTON, ALL DOORS LOCK EXCEPT MINE. MY ALARM SYSTEM (VIPER) HAS AN AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCK FEATURE BUT ALL THE DOORS EXCEPT THE DRIVER'S DOOR LOCKS. THESE PROBLEMS ARE ONGOING, SO IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO GIVE A CORRECT INCIDENT DATE, SO I'M GIVING THE DATE IT LAST HAPPENED.*AK
NHTSA# 02-V-120- 000: ON CERTAIN SEDANS, COUPES, HATCHBACKS, AND SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, ELECTRICAL CONTACTS IN THE IGNITION SWITCH CAN DEGRADE DUE TO THE HIGH ELECTRICAL CURRENT PASSING THROUGH THE SWITCH WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STARTED. THIS RECALL FAILED IN THIS VEHICLE. *AK

CONSUMER STATED VEHICLE HAS ONLY 67000 MILES AND THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION BROKE. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK
I HAVE 1999 HONDA ACCORD COUPE EX V6. MY TRANNY WENT AT 66'000 MILES. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ ON THE INTERNET AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS. I HAVE CALLED HONDA AND THEY SAID THERE IS NO RECALL ON 99 ACCORD TRANSMISSIONS BUT THERE IS AN EXTENSION ON 2000/2001 TRANSMISSIONS FOR 7 YEARS 100'00 MILES. I AM VERY UPSET AND HOPE THERE IS A RECALL ON THESE TRANSMISSIONS....OR AT LEAST COMPENSATE FOR THE $3000 I SPENT TO PAY FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION. THANK YOU
EXPERIENCED EXTREMELY HARD SHIFTING AT 40 MPH. THE ENGINE WOULD REV, DIE DOWN, AND THEN SUDDENLY JERK INTO GEAR. FROM DAY-ONE HAVE EXPEIENCED ACKWARD SHIFT FROM 2-3. AT TIME OF EACH RECOMMENDED SERVICE REQUESTED STAFF ADDRESS ISSUE. TYPICAL RESPONSE THAT HOW CAR WS DESIGN. NOW AT 52,000 MILES NEED TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION. HONDA OF AMERICAN IS DOING A 50/50 SPILT OF THE COST TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION. DEALERS PRICE TO REPAIR WAS $5300. HONDA OF AMERICA PRICE APPROXIMATELY $2400 , HALF PAID BY CONSUMER. *AK

OWNER OF 1999 HONDA ACCORD LX AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION 4-CYLINDER ENGINE.APPROXIMATELY 53,000 MILES ON ODOMETER. DRIVING WHEN HEARD NOISE. PULLED OVER AND LOST POWER STEERING. CAR STOPPED RUNNING. PARKED IN PARKING LOT. LOOKED UNDER HOOD SAW BELT LOOSE. HAD CAR TOWED TO INDEPENDENT HONDA SHOP. MECHANIC STATES THAT BOLT ON CRANKSHAFT PULLEY WAS NEVER TIGHTENED PROPERLY AT FACTORY, ALLOWING CRANKSHAFT PULLEY MECHANISM TO LET BELTS SLIP OFF. DAMAGE DONE TO END OF CRANKSHAFT NEEDS REPLACEMENT. MECHANIC STATES CALLED HONDA DEALERSHIP IN CALSBAD, CA AND THEY HAVE SEEN THREE CARS COME IN LIKE THIS. SAFETY CONCERN SINCE I WAS ON A SMALL SIDE ROAD ONLY GOING 25 MPH , COULD HAVE HAD AN ACCIDENT IF ON FREEWAY. HAD SMALL CHILDREN IN CAR AT TIME AND ALSO MY REALTOR, COULD BE A WITNESS. CAR INSPECTED AT HONDA DEALERSHIP ON 6-17-03.*JB. MECHANIC STATES HE CALLED CALSBAD, CA DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAV ESEEN AT LEAST ONE CAR PER MONTH WITH SAME PROBLEM. *AK
1999 HONDA ACCORD V6 TRANSMISSION NEEDING TO BE REBUILT AT ONLY 87K MILES. THIS WAS DUE TO THE TRANS SLIPPING AND SHIFTING ERRATICALLY. THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AS LISTED WITH THE 2000-2001 MODELS. *NLM
MY 1999 HONDA ACCORD EX SEDAN WITH APPROXIMATELY 84,000 MILES ON ODOMETER HAS WARPED FRONT ROTORS. I HAVE ALWAYS TAKEN GOOD CARE OF MY VEHICLES, HOWEVER, I ALMOST ALWAYS BOUGHT TOYOTA'S IN THE PAST (AND KEPT MOST TO THE 100,000-MILE MARK). THIS IS MY FIRST HONDA. I'VE REVIEWED ALL OF THE COMPLAINTS FILED WITH REGARD TO THIS VEHICLE, AND CONCUR WITH OTHERS THAT THERE IS NO LOGICAL REASON FOR WARPED ROTORS AT THIS POINT. FRONT AND BACK BRAKES WERE REPLACED LAST YEAR (ON SEPARATE OCCASIONS), BRAKES HAVE BEEN INSPECTED ROUTINELY, AND I HAVE NOT BEEN DRIVING ROUTINELY IN CONGESTED TRAFFIC, NOR DO I TAKE MY CAR TO CAR WASHES WHEN IT IS BITTER COLD OUTSIDE (AS THE HONDA REP INDICATED COULD BE THE CAUSE). IN ADDITION TO PAYING FOR PM SERVICE AT HONDA, I NOW HAVE TO PAY AN ADDITIONAL $138+ FOR ROTOR REPAIRS. MY DRIVE TO WORK IS PRETTY EASY, ESPECIALLY COMPARED TO YEARS WHEN I DROVE TO DOWNTOWN MINNEAPOLIS DAILY. IF I WAS EVER GOING TO HAVE "ROTOR WARP" ISSUES, IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE VEHICLES THAT DROVE THE CITY MILES. THEREFORE, IT WAS A SURPRISE TO BE HIT WITH "WARPED ROTORS." I WAS ALREADY A HONDA OWNER A WHEN I HEARD ABOUT HOW "SECRETIVE" THEY ARE WITH THEIR QUALITY ISSUES. WHY DO THEY FEEL THE NEED TO HIDE THEIR PARTS, SERVICE, AND DESIGN FLAWS, AND TRY TO EVADE CUSTOMER CARE OPPORTUNITIES? HONDA SHOULD BE UPFRONT AND ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE SAFETY AND RELIABILITY OF THE VEHICLES THEY MANUFACTURE, DISTRIBUTE, AND PROFIT FROM IN THIS COUNTRY. AFTER ALL, THESE WERE GENUINE HONDA PARTS THAT WARPED. I APPRECIATE THE OPPORTUNITY TO REGISTER THIS COMPLAINT AND HOPE THE INVESTIGATION OF THIS PART OR DESIGN FAILURE YIELDS SOME GOOD NEWS IN RECOUPING SOME OF THE COST. HAVING MADE MY LAST CAR PAYMENT YESTERDAY, I WAS HOPING TO HAVE A BREAK FROM PAYMENTS AND REPAIRS FOR A WHILE. HOWEVER, THIS SOUNDS LIKE IT WILL BE A REPEAT PROBLEM, AND IF SO, I MAY NEED TO LOOK AT NEW VEHICLES. A LOT DEPENDS ON WHAT HONDA DOES, OR DOES NOT DO, TO REMEDY THE SITUATION. *NLM

I OWN A 1999 HONDA ACCORD WITH 2.3L ENGINE WITH 21K MILES. THE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY CAME LOOSE AND CREATED INTERNAL ENGINE DAMAGE. HONDA WILL NOT CLAIM A DEFECT. CHECK COMPLAINT #'S 8013427,750032,10000253,10000370,10001199,10006874. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY INFO YOU COULD SEND ME. *NLM
CARS JUST SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING LOSING ALL POWER. WAS A RECALL ON THE IGNITION SWITCH BUT IT WAS REPLACED. *JS
SEAT FRAME BRACKET FAILURE ON POWER ASSISTED DRIVER'S SEAT. THE LEFT FRONT CORNER OF OF THE SEAT BOTTOM BRACKET FAILED, AND APPEAR TO BE DUE TO THE WELD CONDITION OF THE BRACKET. UNDER ACCELERATION THE SILT TILTS BACKWARDS. CAN'T BELIEVE THE NHTSA JUST CLOSED AN INVESTIGATION ON 3/2003 THIS ISSUE AND DECIDED IT DID NOT WARRANT THE USE OF AGENCY RESOURCES, I WEIGH 190 POUNDS, AND DO NOT JUMP INTO AND OUT OF MY SEAT, IT IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURING SAFETY DEFECT.
TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO FIRST GEAR. WENT OUT WITH 82000 MILES. ALREADY HAD TRANSMISSION REPLACED AT 44000 MILES. TWO IN 82000 MILES. *TT
THE DIFFERENTIAL BEARINGS ON MY TRANSMISSION FAILED AT 49K MILES AND DAMAGED MY TRANSMISSION. I HAD MY TRANSMISSION REBUILT BY A PRIVATE COMPANY WHEN HONDA TOLD THEM THAT IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. I WAS TOLD BY HONDA THAT THEY MAY HAVE DONE HELPED IF A DEALER HAD DONE THE WORK. *NLM
CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE DRIVING AND WITH NO WARNING ANTI LOCK BRAKES WILL LOCK UP WHILE CONSUMER IS PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, AND IT WILL BE HARD FOR THE CONSUMER TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK

THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ON MY 6 CYLINDER 1999 HONDA ACCORD FAILED AT AROUND ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND MILES EVEN WITH SCHEDULED FLUID REPLACEMENT. I WAS TOLD BY HONDA OF AMERICA THAT 2000-2002 ACCORDS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM WERE COVERED UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY BUT THAT MY CAR DID NOT MEET THE CRITERIA. TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE COMPLETELY RE-BUILT AT MY EXPENSE.*AK
I PURCHASED MY 1999 HONDA ACCORD EX-VL 3.0L V6... MAY 1999. THERE HAS BEEN A SLIGHT JERK WHEN THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED GEARS FROM DAY ONE. HONDA SAYS THIS IS NORMAL. WELL SEVERAL MONTHS AGO IT STARTED TO GET WORSE AND THE TRANSMISSION STARTED LEAKING FLUID AT THE LEFT CV BOOT. I TOOK IT INTO THE HONDA DEALER AND I WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS A ROLLER BEARING THAT IS WEARING OUT PREMATURELY CAUSING A SLIGHT VIBRATION THAT CAUSES THE SEAL TO LEAK. THEY SAID I NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION AND IT WOULD COST $5,500 ++ TO REPLACE BECAUSE IT WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. (3 YEARS OR 30K MILES) I HAVE OWNED A HONDA FOR 17 YEARS. I HAVE A 1986 WITH OVER 250,000 MILES AND STILL GOING STRONG. I PURCHASED THIS 1999 BASED ON THE HONDAS PAST HISTORY OF QUALITY. THIS MAY BE THE END OF HONDA OWNERSHIP FOR ME IF THEY DON'T REPLACE THIS DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSION.I HAVE SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND WAS OVERWHELMED AT SO MANY 1999 HONDA ACCORDS THAT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. I HAVE A 1999 HONDA ACCORD EXV6 THE TRANSMISSION STARTED SLIPPING 3 MONTHS AGO. I CALLED MY DEALER AT THAT TIME BECAUSE I HAD RECEIVED A LETTER NOV 2001 FROM HONDA STATING THAT THERE WAS A WARRANY EXTENSION FOR EGR SYSTEM CLOGGING. THE SERVICE ADVISOR STATED THAT THIS WOULD NOT HELP MY CASE. NOW AT 70000 I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION.I BOUGHT THIS CAR AFTER OWNING A TOYOTA FOR 12 YEARS W/ NO PROBLEMS. TO SAY THE LEAST I AM DISGUSTED.
1999 HONDA ACCORD EX V-6 TRANSMISSION FAILURE. I HAD BEEN NOTICING ACCELERATION PROBLEMS. I THOUGHT THE PROBLEM WAS WITH FUEL INJECTION. I WAS COMING BACK FROM A WEEKEND TRIP AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY FOR THE 75,000 MILE SERVICE. THEY SAID IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION. THE NEXT DAY IT FAILED THE TRANSMISSION TEST. DEALER SAID IT WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. I DO NOT DRIVE LONG DISTANCES AND I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THE CAR. *NLM

THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000. *TR
TRANSMISSION SLIPS AND LURCHES. REQUESTED DEALER SERVICE AND ADJUSTMENT. FLUIDS REPLACED, BUT NO SERVICE PERFORMED. SERVICE MANAGER EVASIVE AND MIS-LEADING. MADE APPOINTMENT FOR ADJUSTMENT, FLUID AND FILTER CHANGE, DEALER DID JUST ONE. FLUID WAS NOT BURNT OR DISCOLORED. PROBLEM PERSISTS. WARRANTY EXTENSION SHOULD BE ORDERED EXPANDED TO INCLUDE 1999 MODEL. *NLM

NEED TO LUBRICATE THE SEAT BELT BUCKLES. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. FILLER NECK IS BENT. NEED TO REPLACE FUEL PIPE.
AFTER TILTING FORWARD PASSENGER SIDE FRONT SEAT ONLY LOCKS INTO PLACE IF THE BACK OF THE SEAT IS LOCKED BACK BEFORE SLIDING THE SEAT BACK INTO PLACE. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHERE THE PASSENGER SLID FORWARD WHILE BRAKING. THE SEAT BELT HELD, BUT THE PASSENGERS WERE CAUGHT BY SURPRISE. I SHOWED THE DEALER THIS AND WAS TOLD WELL, JUST LOCK THE SEAT BACK. HOWEVER, WHEN THE SEAT HAS BEEN TILTED FORWARD, PASSENGERS NATURALLY SLIDE IT BACK INTO PLACE. IF THEY DO NOT LOCK THE BACK UPRIGHT FIRST, THERE IS A CHANCE THE SEAT IS NOT LOCKED INTO PLACE.*AK
TODAY I HAVE 88000 MILES ON MY 1999 HONDA ACCORD V6 COUPE. I AM CURRENTLY ON MY THIRD TRANSMISSION. THE FIRST TIME, MY CAR WAS DRIVING VERY ROUGH AT AROUND 23000 MI. EVERY TIME I WOULD ACCELERATE, WHEN MY CAR SHIFTED FROM FIRST TO SECOND GEAR, THE CAR WOULD GIVE A STRONG JERK, ONE THAT WAS STRONG ENOUGH TO SHAKE THE COINS IN THE COIN HOLDER. I TOOK THE CAR TO HONDA AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS OK, AND THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE ANY PROBLEMS. AROUND 30000 MILES, MY TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT SHIFT OUT OF SECOND GEAR. I TOOK IT BACK TO HONDA AND THEY REPLACED IT WITH OUT ANY PROBLEM. LATER, AROUND 60000 MILES, MY TRANSMISSION LOST ALL FORWARD DRIVING GEARS. KEEP IN MIND THIS IS THE SECOND TRANSMISSION. I HAD IT TOWED TO A GAS STATION, AND CALLED HONDA, ONLY TO HEAR, THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE DECISION WAS MADE TO GET THE WORK DONE AT THE GAS STATION. THEY ACQUIRED A NEW TRANSMISSION FROM HONDA TO BE PLACED INTO MY CAR. TONIGHT, THAT TRANSMISSION IS NOW WITHOUT FIRST AND THIRD GEARS. THE CAR WONT SHIFT EITHER. THE CAR NEEDS TO BE PLACED IN SECOND GEAR, AND SHIFTED TO THIRD MANUALLY FOR IT TO FUNCTION. IF IT IS STARTED IN 1,D3,OR D4 IT WILL START IN SECOND GEAR AND STAY IN IT. I HAVE 90000 MI ON MY CAR TODAY. THIS SEEMS TO OCCUR EVERY 30000 MI OR SO.*JB

THE STARTER BLEW APART AFTER STARTING ON 3/10/03. THE BENDIX WAS IN TWO PIECES AND LODGED ITSELF BETWEEN THE FLYWHEEL AND MOTOR. ONE PIECE WAS ABLE TO BE REMOVED, THE SECOND CANNOT BE REMOVED UNLESS THE TRANSMISSION IS REMOVED. THE DEALER INDICATED THIS WAS A NEW OCCURRENCE AND NEVER BEFORE HAPPENED TO THEIR KNOWLEDGE. THE CONSUMER SERVICE AT HONDA DID NOT SEEM TOO CONCERNED THAT THIS HAD OCCURRED AND SEEMED UNWILLING TO RESEARCH THIS EVEN THOUGH THEY ALSO INDICATED THAT THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME. *JB

MY CRANK SHAFT PULLEY BOLT BROKE OFF DAMAGING MY WHOLE ENGINE. HONDA ESTIMATES IT WILL BE APPROX. 5900.00 TO FIX. THIS IS RIDICULOUS SINCE MY CAR IS PRACTICALLY NEW (1999) AND I GET ALL MY SERVICING AT THE DEALERSHIP!
THE TRANSMISSION FAILED, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE NOT TO ACCELERATE.*JB
BRAKE SWITCH INOP. THE BRAKE SWITCH GOES OUT REQUIRING THE MANUAL OVER-RIDE TO SWITCH THE CAR OUT OF PARK. THE PROBLEM IS WHEN THE SWITCH GOES OUT, ALL OF THE BRAKE LIGHTS ARE INOPERABLE. THIS HAS HAPPENED THREE TIMES IN THE LAST YEAR AND A HALF. WE HAVE OWNED OUR 1999 HONDA ACCORD EX SINCE IT WAS NEW AND WE ARE NOW GOING ON OUR FOURTH BRAKE SWITCH. THIS LAST OCCURENCE IT APPEARS TO BE INTERMITENT. SO I DO NOT KNOW FOR HOW LONG WE HAVE BEEN DRIVING WITH REAR BRAKE LIGHTS NOT WORKING EVERY TIME WE USE OUR BRAKES. THROTTLE WIRE BROKE DISCONNECTING THE ACCELERATOR PETAL FROM THE ENGINE WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. I WAS LUCKY THAT I WAS IN THE RIGHT LANE AND COULD GET ONTO THE SHOULDER.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY GOING ABOUT 40MPH THE ACCELORATOR STUCK AND CONTINUED TO ACCEL AT UNCONTROLABLE SPEEDS. THE BRAKE WOULD NOT STOP THE CAR AND I HAD TO PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND SLAM ON THE GAS PEDAL TO RELEASE IT. I HAVE SINCE TAKEN THE CAR TO MEL RAPTON HONDA AND SPOKE TO THE SERVICE MANAGER WHO CLAIMS THAT HE HAS NEVER HEARD OF THIS HAPPENING. IT HAS NOT DONE IT SINCE. I HAD A MECHANIC CHECK THE ACCELERATOR CABLES AS WELL AS THE CRUISE CONTROL CABLES AND THERE WERE NO APPARENT PROBLEMS.

WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 45 MY 99 HONDA ACCORD BEGAN TO ACCELORATE TO UNCONTROLABLE SPEEDS, NEARING 80-85 MPH. I ATTEMPTED TO PUSH THE BREAK WITHOUT LUCK PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND PUNCHED THE GAS PEDDAL AS HARD AS I COULD FOR IT TO RELEASE.
