MY 1999 HONDA WILL RANDOMLY JUST QUIT RUNNING. THE ENGINE DIES AND THE DOOR LOCKS UNLOCK. IT WILL START RIGHT AWAY. FROM WHAT I'VE BEEN READING, THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS EXACT SITUATION. DO YOU KNOW HOW I CAN CONTACT THE COMPANY TO FINAL A COMPLAINT? *TR
THE SUB-FRAME IS RUSTED ON PASSENGERS SIDE CORNER. MANUFACTURERS DEFECT DUE TO PLACEMENT OF DRAIN FOR A/C ALL OTHER SIDES ARE OK. *TR
THIS CAR'S AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT HAS BEEN ON FOR AWHILE. THIS EXACT MAKE/MODEL/YEAR HAVE BEEN PART OF A VERY LARGE RECALL BUT THIS SPECIFIC CAR'S VIN WASN'T LISTED AS PART OF IT. I CONTACTED HONDA MORE THAN THREE WEEKS AGO AND WAS ASSIGNED A RECALL CASE MANAGER. THE CASE MANAGER SAID THEY WOULD ADD THIS VIN TO THE AIRBAG RECALL. I'VE LEFT AT LEAST THREE FOLLOW-UP MESSAGES WITH THE CASE MANAGER SINCE THAT TIME. THE VIN IS STILL NOT APPEARING IN DATABASE. WE'VE BEEN UNABLE TO DRIVE CAR FOR WEEKS AS A RESULT OF SAFETY CONCERNS. THERE HAVE BEEN WIDELY PUBLICIZED NEWS REPORTS OF PEOPLE BEING SERIOUSLY INJURED FROM HONDA'S FAULTY AIRBAGS. THE LOCAL SHOP WANTS TO CHARGE US TO INSPECT IT, WHICH SEEMS INAPPROPRIATE ON A SAFETY RECALL WHERE PEOPLE ARE BEING HURT. *TR
WHEN I PURCHASED MY CAR THE AC WAS NOT WORKING SO I HAD IT CHECKED AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NOT CONNECTED AND WAS TOLD THAT HONDA'S HAVE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE FRAMES ROTTING OUT DUE TO THE LOCATION OF THE AC DRAIN. UPON HAVING THE FRAME INSPECTED WAS TOLD THAT MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT PASS ANOTHER STATE INSPECTION. MY CAR IS IN GREAT SHAPE BODY WISE WITH NO OTHER RUST. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS A BIG SAFETY ISSUE AND UPON RESEARCHING ON LINE HAVE SEEN THAT NUMEROUS PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS. JUST WANT TO KNOW WHY HONDA IS NOT BEING HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THESE REPAIRS. HONDA HAS ALWAYS BEEN A CAR OF CHOICE FOR MY FAMILY BUT AFTER THIS I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER HONDA. *TR
WHILE TURNING INTO A DRIVEWAY, VEHICLE MADE LOUD BANGING SOUND AS IT WENT OVER A MINOR ELEVATION WHEN ENTERING THE DRIVEWAY FROM THE STREET. THE VEHICLE MAKES POPPING AND BUMPING NOISES WHILE TURNING. AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE SUBFRAME WAS SEVERELY RUSTED. THE RUST HAS EATEN THROUGH THE FRAME THAT SUPPORTS THE VEHICLES SUSPENSION AND STEERING. THERE WAS LITTLE TO NO RUST ON THE DRIVER SIDE SUBFRAME. I WAS INFORMED THE RUST MAY DUE TO A DEFECT IN THE DRIP LINE FROM THE AIR CONDITIONER DEPOSITING DIRECTLY OVER THE SUBFRAME. I WAS INFORMED THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND SHOULD BE REPAIRED IMMEDIATELY. *TR
1999 HONDA ACCORD SUB-FRAME CRACK FROM AIR CONDITIONING DRAIN. PART NUMBER 50200-S84-A00 FRONT (REAR BEAM) OF THE SUB-FRAME HAS RUSTED AND CRACKED. THE CRACK IS LOCATED ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE CAR DIRECTLY BELOW WHERE THE AIR CONDITIONING DRAIN TUBE DRIPS ONTO THE SUB FRAME. ALL OTHER AREAS OF SUB-FRAME AND UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE CAR ARE IN GREAT CONDITION. THIS RUSTED AREA IS OBVIOUSLY THE RESULT OF A DESIGN FLAW WITH THE AIR CONDITIONING DRAIN CONSTANTLY WETTING THE SUB-FRAME. RUSTED SUB-FRAME FOUND AT 210,000 MILES BUT DAMAGE OBVIOUSLY OCCURRED MUCH EARLIER. NEED HONDA TO RECALL AND REPLACE SUB-FRAME. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, THE ENGINE WILL QUIT COMPLETELY WITHOUT ANY WARNING OR INDICATION OF MALFUNCTION; IT JUST STOPS. SOMETIMES IT WILL START UP AGAIN IMMEDIATELY, SOMETIMES MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS WHERE IT CATCHES FOR A FRACTION OF A SECOND AND STOPS AGAIN HAVE BEEN REQUIRED OVER A PERIOD OF SEVERAL MINUTES. OVER TIME, IT SEEMED TO BECOME CLEAR THAT TURNING THE KEY TO THE OFF POSITION INSTEAD OF ATTEMPTING A START FROM ACC WOULD ALMOST ALWAYS RESULT IN IMMEDIATE RESTART. THE ISSUE DISAPPEARED OVER WHAT WAS A FAIRLY COLD WINTER, BUT HAS RETURNED WITH THE WARMING WEATHER. TOTAL NUMBER OF OCCURRENCES: SOMEWHERE AROUND FIFTY OR HIGHER. SOMETIMES IT WOULD HAPPEN NUMEROUS TIMES THE SAME DAY, INCREASINGLY WITH INCREASED TEMPERATURE, AND SEEMED MUCH MORE PRONE TO OCCUR WHEN THE AIR-CONDITIONING WAS IN USE. THE REPAIR SHOP WAS NEVER ABLE TO CAPTURE AN OBD CODE WITH ITS RECORDING DEVICE. AS A COMMUTER ON RURAL ROADS, THIS HAS BEEN INCONVENIENT BUT SO FAR NOT UNSAFE, BUT THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR IT OCCURRING UNDER ADVERSE TRAFFIC CONDITIONS THAT MIGHT BE UNSAFE, E.G., AT HIGHWAY SPEED WITH CLOSE FOLLOWING TRAFFIC ON A ROAD WITH NO SHOULDER. THESE INCIDENTS MAY OR MAY NOT BE RELATED TO TWO REPAIRS THAT ALMOST IMMEDIATELY PRECEDED THE FIRST OCCURRENCE OF THIS PROBLEM: 1. THE CAR WOULDN'T START ONE DAY, NO ELECTRICAL OUTPUT AT ALL WAS AVAILABLE, THOUGH THE BATTERY WAS ONLY A FEW MONTHS OLD. A LOCAL (I.E., NON-DEALER) REPAIR SHOP REPLACE THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE THAT GROUNDS THE BATTERY TO THE VEHICLE. 2. TIMING BELT REPLACEMENT WAS PERFORMED A COUPLE OF MONTHS PRIOR, AGAIN BY A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. *TR
THE 1999 HONDA ACCORD WAS AT A RED LIGHT. AS I MADE A LEFT TURN, I COULD SMELL SOME TYPE OF FUME COMING FROM THE STEERING. THEN SAW SRS LIGHT CAME ON AND WITHIN ABOUT 10 SECONDS, THE DRIVER'S AIRBAG DEPLOYED FOR NO ODD REASON. THE CAR AS NEVER BEEN IN ANY ACCIDENT, ALL PARTS ARE ORIGINAL AS DAY 1 WHEN WE BOUGHT IT NEW. HONDA DEALERSHIP IN RENTON SAID THEY DID NOT FIND ANY ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IN THEIR TEST THAT COULD CAUSE THIS MALFUNCTION, WHY IT MALFUNCTION IS STILL IN THE AIR? THEY ARE TELLING ME TO FILE A CLAIM WITH MY INSURANCE COMPANY. AGAIN, HONDA SAID NO REASON WHY THE BAG DEPLOYED AND NO ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTION. I WANT TO REPORT THIS SO OTHERS WILL BE SAFE. *TR
7/8/2013 APPROACHING A STOP SIGN ON A FLAT RESIDENTIAL STREET, THE CAR SUDDENLY DIED. IT RESTARTED RIGHT AWAY. THE NEXT MORNING THE CAR DIED AS SOON AS I PUT IT IN GEAR. AGAIN IT RESTARTED. ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK THAT SAME DAY ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH CAME ON FOR A SECOND, BUT THE CAR DID REMAIN ON, ALTHOUGH THERE SEEMED TO BE A SECOND OR TWO WHERE EVERYTHING FELT LIKE IT FROZE UP. EVER SINCE THEN, I HAVE TO HOLD THE KEY TURNED FOR ABOUT 5 WHOLE SECONDS TO KEEP THE CAR STARTED. IF I LET GO RIGHT AWAY, THE CAR IMMEDIATELY DIES. THEN ON FRIDAY 8/31, ALL THE LIGHTS FLASHED ON THE DASH, AND THEN THE CAR DIED COMPLETELY AS I WAS ACCELERATING ON THE ON RAMP TO THE HIGHWAY. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER QUICKLY AND FORTUNATELY DID NOT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. AFTER A FEW MINUTES THE CAR DID RESTART AND I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT HOME. I CALLED MY HONDA DEALER IN JULY AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENT, AND WAS TOLD THEY WOULD ONLY LOOK AT IT FOR $100 DIAGNOSTIC FEE. I HAD MY LOCAL INDEPENDENT MECHANIC CHECK EVERYTHING THEY COULD THINK OF A FEW DAYS LATER , BATTERY, ALTERNATOR- AND THE LAST RESORT THEY HAD WAS THE IGNITION SWITCH. HONDA HAS ALREADY HAD TWO RECALLS ON MY VEHICLE FOR IGNITION SWITCH ISSUES, 2002 AND 2005. THE HONDA DEALER WAS VERY UNWILLING TO CHECK ANYTHING THIS TIME AROUND AND MADE IT VERY CLEAR THAT I WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC CHECK , AND THAT DID NOT SEEM APPROPRIATE GIVEN THE IGNITION SWITCH ISSUES IN THE PAST. *JB
I HAVE SERIOUS ISSUES WITH MY HONDA ACCORD. FIRST, THE TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED. IT BEGAN WITH IT SLIPPING IN HIGHER GEARS WHEN HOT AND FINALLY FAILED WHEN IT WOULDN'T SHIFT OUT OF LOW GEAR. THIS TRANSMISSION IS THE SAME TRANSMISSION THAT IS IN THE 00-04 HONDA ACCORDS THAT WERE RECALLED. HONDA REFUSED TO OFFER ANY TYPE OF OWNER ASSISTANCE. MY EXPENSE TO REPAIR: $1516.30 SECOND ISSUE: IN 2002 THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS RECALLED. THE CAR DIED ON THE FREEWAY AND HAD TO BE TOWED TWO DAYS AFTER I RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE. HONDA REPAIRED THE VEHICLE NO CHARGE FOR PARTS AND LABOR BUT REFUSED TO PAY FOR THE TOWING EXPENSE. MY COST: $75. NOW THE IGNITION SWITCH HAS FAILED AGAIN AND HONDA HAS REFUSED TO REPLACE IT AT NO CHARGE OR WITH ANY TYPE OF OWNER ASSISTANCE EVEN THOUGH THIS SAME PART WAS REPLACED AS PART OF A RECALL. I HAVE BEEN GIVEN AN "ESTIMATE" OF $275 TO REPAIR. FREEMAN HONDA OF DALLAS REPLACED THE SWITCH UNDER THE RECALL. I'VE CONTACTED JOHN EAGLE HONDA OF DALLAS, ON LEMMON AVE, AND LEFT MESSAGES FOR[XXX] THE SERVICE MANAGER BUT HAVE NOT RECEIVED A RETURN PHONE CALL. I SPOKE WITH A SERVICE CONSULTANT WHO POINT BLANK TOLD ME MY CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THEY WILL DO NOTHING TO HELP ME. I CALLED HONDA CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE AND WAS TOLD THEY WOULD NOT PARTICIPATE IN ANY TYPE OF OWNER GOODWILL OR ASSISTANCE WITH EITHER REPAIR. I UNDERSTAND PARTS FAIL BUT THESE TWO REPAIRS ARE KNOWN PRODUCT ISSUES FOR HONDA! INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE BEING SERVICED, IT WAS ADVISED THAT THE PASSENGER'S SIDE SUB FRAME WAS RUSTED. THE PRIVATE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE ENTIRE SUB FRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 78,870. *TR
I TOOK MY 1999 HONDA ACCORD EX (213,500 MILES) TO A HONDA DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTER FOR A FRONT RIGHT WHEEL BEARING REPLACEMENT. UPON THE TECHNICIAN REMOVING THE TIRE AND WORKING TO REPLACE THE WHEEL BEARING, IT WAS NOTED THAT THE FRONT RIGHT SIDE OF THE SUB-FRAME WAS ROTTED OUT AND NOTED THE ENTIRE SUB-FRAME SHOULD BE REPLACED. IT WAS ALSO NOTED AND INSPECTED THAT THE FRONT LEFT (DRIVER) SIDE WAS NOT RUSTING OR ROTTED. THE HONDA DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTER EXPLAINED THAT IT COULD BE A SAFETY HAZARD AND DAMAGING TO THE VEHICLE IF THE SUB-FRAME COMPLETELY ROTTED APART. *TR
I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE VEHICLE AND HAVE FOLLOWED ALL THE RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE MILESTONES AT THE SAME DEALERSHIP SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. I WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AND THE TRANSMISSION WENT OUT. THIS CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO LOSE SPEED AND I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. I CALLED HONDA AND THEY SAID THAT EVEN WITH REGULAR MAINTENANCE THEY WILL NOT STAND BEHIND THE TRANSMISSION AFTER THREE YEARS. I BELIEVE THEY SHOULD AT LEAST HELP IN THE COST OF THE REPAIRS WHICH ARE AROUND $3,600.00 TO REBUILD THE TRANSMISSION. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 02V120000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) BUT THE DEALER REFUSED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE A SECOND TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000.
THIS IS JUST TO ENTER A COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA ABOUT A SUBFRAME ISSUE ON THIS MAKE/MODEL/YEAR CAR. I UNDERSTAND THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THIS BUT NOT ENOUGH AT THIS TIME TO INVOLVE A RECALL. WE WERE NOT IN AN ACCIDENT BUT BROUGHT THE CAR IN BECAUSE OF NOISE. WE DID HAVE TO HAVE OUR SUBFRAME REPLACED IN MAY BECAUSE IT WAS RUSTED OUT AND POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS. IT COST $2410.10 (ACTUALLY PART OF THIS COST WAS FOR A BALL JOINT REPAIR AS WELL - PERHAPS A COUPLE OF HUNDRED OF THE TOTAL WAS FOR THAT). THE COST WAS FOR A USED SUBFRAME. A NEW ONE WOULD HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE. PERHAPS ENOUGH COMPLAINTS WILL BRING SOME ACTION ON THE SUBFRAME ISSUE. *TR
REPAIR SHOP SAID PASSENGER SIDE OF ENGINE SUBFRAME IS RUSTED OUT, REST OF SUBFRAME IS OKAY. THE IS APPARENTLY A VERY COMMON COMPLAINT FOR THESE CARS RELATED TO THE LOCATION OF A/C DRAIN HOSE. THIS IS AN OBVIOUS DESIGN FLAW AND SHOULD BE CORRECTED BY HONDA CORP. THESE VEHICLES SHOULD BE RECALLED IMMEDIATELY GIVEN THE MOUNTING EVIDENCE OF THIS FLAW BEFORE SOME POOR UNAWARE SOUL IS HURT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 40-45 MILES AN HOUR, MY CAR SHUT DOWN. THE RADIO SHUT OFF, THE WHOLE CAR SHUT DOWN! THANK GOODNESS NO ONE WAS BEHIND ME. I SAT THERE IN SHOCK AND TRIED TO RESTART IT, AND IT STARTED RIGHT BACK UP. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE BEFORE, BUT I WAS A RED LIGHT/STOP SIGN. I DIDN'T THINK ANYTHING ABOUT IT, BECAUSE I THOUGHT I LET UP A LITTLE TO MUCH ON THE CLUTCH. IT JUST QUIETLY SHUT DOWN. I CAN'T IMAGINE IF I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE WITH A TRACTOR TRAILER BEHIND ME. I WENT STRAIGHT HOME AND GOOGLED AND FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS RECALLS ON ELECTRICAL PARTS OF SWITCH. CALLED LOCAL HONDA DEALER. HE STATED THAT MANY HAS COME THROUGH THE DOOR OVER THIS, BUT MY VIN WAS NOT PART OF IT. I WILL CONTACT HONDA CORPORATION AND TRY MY LUCK THERE. IT JUST SHUT DOWN WITH NO WARNING. UNBELIEVABLE!! *TR
GOT IN VEHICLE AND HAD NO BRAKES. NO WARNING. JUST NO BRAKES. THIS WAS DUE TO RUST EATING A HOLE IN THE BRAKE LINE. THE FUEL LINES ARE THE SAME WAY. IN FACT, THE ENTIRE UNDERCARRIAGE IS RUST. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING IN REVERSE AT 3 MPH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED INDEPENDENTLY AND CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE, AND A HOUSE BEFORE COMING TO A STOP. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 149,000.
THE ENGINE SHUTS-OFF AT RANDOM TIMES -- ON FREEWAY, CITY STREETS, STOP SIGNS/LIGHTS -- IDLING, ACCELERATING, MAINTAINING SPEED. LIKELY THE IGNITION SWITCH FOR WHICH THERE WAS A RECALL, BUT THE RECALL DID NOT INCLUDE THIS VIN -- I ASSUME THE "EARLY" FAILURE WAS ADDRESSED, BUT AT WHAT AGE/MILEAGE IS THIS NO LONGER A SAFETY ISSUE? IS THERE SOME STANDARD AGE/MILEAGE UNTIL WHICH A VEHICLE SHOULD BE DESIGNED FOR SAFETY UNDER NORMAL MAINTENANCE AND AFTER WHICH ONE SHOULD NOT ASSUME SUCH? *TR
UPON INSPECTION OF THE VEHICLE BY A CERTIFIED MECHANIC, THE SUB-FRAME : REAR BEAM - CROSS BEAM ( PART NUMBER 50200-S84-A00 ) WAS FOUND RUSTED AND UNSAFE. IT IS LOCATED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, NEAR THE REAR OF THE FRONT TIRE. THE SUB-FRAME COMPONENT IS RUSTED THROUGH ON THE TOP SIDE,WITH HOLES, LEAVING ONLY THE LOWER PORTION OF IT HOLDING THE ENGINE AND SUSPENSION IN PLACE. IT WAS DETERMINED A SAFETY ISSUE AND FAILED INSPECTION. LOOKS LIKE A DESIGN FLAW THAT COLLECTED WATER. EXPENSIVE PART AND REPAIR. HONDA IS NOT COVERING IT. THE REST OF THE UNDERCARRIAGE AND FRAME WAS IN GOOD CONDITION. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL DEALERS SERVICE DEPARTMENT, AND THEY SAID THAT THIS IS A DEFINITE SAFETY ISSUE, AND THE SUB-FRAME COMPONENT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, ALL OF THE LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED AND SIMULTANEOUSLY, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE RECALL REPAIR FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 02V120000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) WOULD NEED TO BE PERFORMED BUT AN INTERLOCK LEVER WOULD NEED TO BE PURCHASED AND REPLACED FIRST. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DIFFERENT DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE REPLICATED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 160,000. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO STALL. UPDATED 05/29/13... UPDATED 06/10/13 *BF

HONDA STATED THEY HAVE NOT HEARD OF SUCH DEFECTS AND THERE HAVE BEEN NO RECALLS. I WAS ALERTED TO A POTENTIAL PROBLEM WITH THE SUBFRAME OF MY VEHICLE THAT HAS CAUSED ME TO PARK IT. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE REAR SUBFRAME HAS RUSTED TO THE POINT THAT IT IS BROKEN IN THREE PLACES. THE REAR SUBFRAME IS LOCATED IN THE REAR PART OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND SUPPORTS THE ENGINE AND FRONT SUSPENSION. I WAS DRIVING THIS CAR FOR AN UNKNOWN LENGTH OF TIME IN THIS CONDITION. I WAS INFORMED THAT THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN AND THAT THE CAR SHOULD NOT BE DRIVEN. THE PORTION OF THE SUBFRAME THAT ATTACHES TO THE SWAY BAR IS COMPLETELY BROKEN LOOSE FROM THE FRAME. THE LOCATION OF THE RUST IS UNDER THE OUTLET OF THE AIR CONDITIONING CONDENSATE DRAIN. THIS IS THE ONLY LOCATION WHERE THE SUB FRAME IS RUSTED. THE DISTILLED WATER COMING OUT OF THE AIR CONDITIONER IS CORROSIVE TO METALS. IN MY OPINION THIS IS A DESIGN DEFECT THAT COULD HAVE BEEN REPAIRED USING A VERY MODEST COST HOSE, FITTING AND PERHAPS A CLAMP TO RE-ROUTE THE CONDENSATE DRAIN AWAY FROM THE STRUCTURAL MEMBERS OF THE CAR. REPAIR OF THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN QUOTED AT $1600. THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE CENTER FOR AUTO SAFETY HAS REQUESTED A RECALL OF THESE VEHICLES. MANY OF THESE CARS ARE STILL ON THE ROAD AND TEND TO BE DRIVEN UP TO 200,000 MILES. THIS FLAW IS NOT READILY DETECTABLE AND IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY CONCERN. THE CAR COASTED WITH ENGINE DEAD JUST A SHORT DISTANCE AND THE ENGINE STARTED UP AGAIN. THE CAR RAN FINE AFTER THAT UNTIL MY WIFE GOT HOME. I GOOGLED '1999 HONDA ACCORD ENGINE SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING' AND FOUND A DOZEN OTHER DRIVERS HAD POSTED ABOUT THE SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH THEIR HONDA ACCORD. I FOUND THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH IS THE CAUSE OF ENGINE SHUT-OFF AND THERE'S HONDA RECALL ON THEM. THE CAR HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH IN NOVEMBER 2006 AT 135,500 MILES. WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, SMOKE CAME OUT OF THE STEERING COLUMN AND THE CAR STARTED JERKING. THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS REPLACED AT A DEALER AFTER HAVING THE CAR TOWED THERE. *TR
