THE ISSUE IS NOT REALLY "SUSPENSION", BUT SUB-FRAME. IT IS A PART CALLED THE REAR BEAM AND IT SUPPORTS THE REAR ENGINE MOUNT. PART NUMBER 50200-S84-A00 HAS RUSTED ENTIRELY THROUGH. AS NUMEROUS PEOPLE HAVE REPORTED ONLINE, IT IS TRUE THAT AN A/C DRAIN HOSE DRIPS RIGHT ONTO THIS PIECE OF SUB-FRAME AND COMPLETELY RUSTED IT THROUGH UNTIL IT BROKE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE OTHER AREAS OF THIS PART AND THE ATTACHED FRONT BEAM ARE IN FINE CONDITION AND THE REPAIR LOOKS TO BE ABOUT $2000. I HAVE SOME PICTURES IF NEEDED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC BUT THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 02V120000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 175,000.
ON MARCH 3, 2015 MY WIFE'S 1999 ACCORD WOULD NOT START. WE HAD THE STARTER REPLACED FOR ABOUT $550.00 BUT THE CAR WAS STILL NEAR IMPOSSIBLE TO START AND THE ENGINE CAN CUT OUT AT ANY TIME ONCE YOU DO HAVE IT STARTED. THE AUTO REPAIRMAN TOLD US THE KEYS MADE POOR CONTACT INSIDE THE IGNITION SWITCH AND THAT WAS WHY IT WAS STILL SO HARD TO START. HE TAUGHT US A TEDIOUS PROCESS TO START THE CAR BUT SINCE THEN WHEN WE DRIVE IT THE ENGINE CAN SUDDENLY STOP RUNNING AND STOPP, ALSO DISABLING THE POWER STEERING. THE CAR IS NO LONGER SAFE TO DRIVE. IT STOPPED RUNNING 4 TIMES ON A 10 MILE TRIP TODAY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACTS HOUSE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,000.
THE TRANSMISSION SEEMS TO BE SLIPPING WHILE I AM DRIVING THE CAR. BASICALLY, AT CERTAIN POINTS (I THINK THESE ARE AT GEAR SHIFTS) THE ENGINE REVS UP AND I GET A BIG JERK IN THE CAR. THIS IS VERY PERCEPTIBLE AT THE GEAR SHIFT NEAR A SPEED OF 40-45 MPH. *TR
TOOK MY 1999 HONDA ACCORD TO A HONDA DEALERSHIP FOR ROUTINE OIL CHANGE & MULTI-POINT INSPECTION ON 2/16/15. I WAS TAKEN INTO THE GARAGE AND SHOWN A HOLE ABOUT 2" ACROSS IN THE SUBFRAME NEAR THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL WELL. I WAS ADVISED THAT IT WAS DUE TO SALTY ROADS AND RUST. THE VEHICLE WAS FLAGGED AS "UNSAFE TO BE DRIVEN" BY THE HONDA DEALERSHIP AND I WAS ADVISED TO EITHER REPAIR OR STOP DRIVING THE VEHICLE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. I WAS TOLD THE FRAME COULD DROP DOWN OR CAUSE THE ENGINE TO COME INTO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT IN THE EVENT OF A FRONT END CRASH. COST TO REPAIR WAS ESTIMATED AT $1600. DEALERSHIP SAID I COULD NOT SELL THE CAR WITHOUT DISCLOSING THE DEFECT. THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID THE CAR WOULD ONLY HAVE SCRAP VALUE AT $350-500 AS NO ONE WOULD PUT THE NECESSARY REPAIRS INTO A 16 YEAR OLD CAR. PREVIOUS COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN MADE TO NHTSA ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, WHICH HONDA REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE. THE SERVICE MANAGER SEEMED SURPRISED WHEN I SAID THIS WAS A "KNOWN PROBLEM" WITH THE '99 ACCORDS. *TR
IS HAPPENING REGULARLY! CAR IS CUTTING OFF. PLAY WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH AND CAR TURNS ON. DAUGHTER ALMOST HAD ACCIDENT TODAY DUE TO THIS ISSUE. CHECKED VIN AND WAS NOT ON RECALL LIST! WHY?! *TR
DRIVING 55MPH ON EXPRESSWAY AT 8:30 PM, NOT WELL LIT. DEER RAN OUT IN FRONT OF ME, PULLED OVER. FRONT OF CAR SMOOSHED, AND AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *JS
WHILE DRIVING ON A 4 LANE ROAD IN COLUMBUS TO A DOCTORS APPOINTMENT & GETTING READY TO COME TO A STOP SINCE TRAFFIC WAS BACKED UP, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL CAME OFF, I FOUND THIS OUT AFTER GETTING OUT OF THE CAR SAFELY WITH SO MANY CARS TRYING TO GET AROUND ME, I SAW WHAT WAS WRONG. I THOUGHT THE AXLE WAS BROKEN, BUT WHEN I HAD TOWED TO A MECHANIC, HE FOUND OUT ALL THE WHEEL STUDS WERE STRIPPED ON THAT SIDE & ON THE ALL OTHER 3 TIRES, THERE WERE AT LEAST 1 OR MORE WHEELS STUDS WERE TOTALLY STRIPPED JUST LIKE THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME, 'IF I HAD GONE ON THE FREEWAY DOING THE 65 MPH OR ANY FASTER ME & MY PASSENGER WOULD BE DEAD!' AFTER KNOWING THIS INFORMATION, IT MADE ME ANGRY THAT HONDA SHOULD HAVE HAD A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE, SINCE I'M NOT THE ONLY PERSON IN THE UNITED STATES THAT HAS A HONDA'S THE SAME YEAR AS MINE. MY PASSENGER & I HAD TO WAIT SEVERAL HOURS IN THE COLD WEATHER BEFORE I GOT A TOW & SOMEONE HAD TO COME PICKUP MY ELDERLY PASSENGER. WE DIDN'T GET TO OUR DOCTORS APPOINTMENT THAT WE REALLY NEEDED TO GET TO.
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND HEARD A LOUD CLUNK COMING FROM THE FRONT END OF THE CAR. AFTER THIS NOISE, THE CAR DID NOT DRIVE OR STEER PROPERLY. UPON INSPECTION, DISCOVERED THE SUB-FRAME ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH. THIS SUB-FRAME PROVIDES MOUNTING POINTS FOR MAJOR SUSPENSION COMPONENTS. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, THE DRIVERS SIDE WAS NOT RUSTED AT ALL. EVEN FURTHER, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE AIR CONDITIONER DRAIN HOSE ON THE PASSENGERS SIDE DRAINS DIRECTLY ON TO THE SUB-FRAME BELOW WHERE THE EXCESSIVE RUST CAUSED THE SUB FRAME TO DETERIORATE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE CONTACT RAN INTO A DITCH AND CRASHED INTO TREES. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO HEAD, LEFT SHOULDER AND RIGHT KNEE WHICH REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 220,000. ....UPDATED 01/23/15 *BF UPDATED 02/18/15*JB
CAR CUTS OFF AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS WITH NO WARNING. STOP CAR CUT OFF SWITCH AND IT WILL START AFTER 1 OR 2 ATTEMPTS. HONDA HAD RECALLED THIS IN 2004 AND REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH ON CAR BUT THIS ONE ALSO WENT BAD I. REPLACED WITH NEW IGNITION SWITCH AND HAVE NOT HAD THIS PROBLEM SO FAR. *TR
TL* TAKATA RECALL. THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH, WHEN THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT AND SHE LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND IMPACTED ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY COMPLETELY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURY HER LEFT SHOULDER WITH THE SEAT BELT. THE CONTACT STATED DID SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT STATED SHE DROVE THE VEHICLE TO HER RESIDENCE AFTER THE ACCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND HAD THE AIR BAGS AND TIRE WERE REPLACED. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED AS OF YET. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 20V026000 (AIRBAGS) ON 10/21/2020. THE CONTACT STILL HAD NOT CONTACT DEALER OR MANUFACTURER REGARDING THE LETTER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 132,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT PARKED, SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL, AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. A WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED, BUT THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO IDENTIFY THE NAME OF THE WARNING LIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL AND DID NOT PROVIDE A DIAGNOSIS FOR THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 236,988.
OIL IS POURING OUT THE BOTTOM OF MY CAR. OIL ALSO FILLED THE RADIATOR OVERFLOW. THE PROBLEM IS A POROUS ENGINE CASTING. THIS CAN CAUSE THE CAR TO SIEZA AS IT LOSES OIL QUITE RAPIDLY. IT CANNOT BE DRIVEN. THERE ARE MANY REPORTED CASES OF THIS ONLINE, BUT HONDA IS TAKING NO RESPONSIBILITY. A NEW ENGINE IS REQUIRED. WHILE THIS IS AN OLDER CAR IN YEARS, THE MILEAGE IS LOW FOR A HONDA OF ITS AGE AND FOR ANY HONDA FOR THAT MATTER AND A PROBELM THAT REQUIRES AN ENTIRE NEW ENGINE IS UNACCEPTABLE. I CONTACTED HONDA AND THEY WILL DO NOTHING.
I HEARD A KNOCK IN THE FRONT SUSPENSION AND TOOK THE ACCORD INTO AN AUTO SHOP THAT WAS OPEN ON SUNDAY. THEY PUT IT ON THE LIFT AND FOUND THE ENGINE SUBFRAME WAS RUSTED THROUGH ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THEY SAID THE CAR WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND WOULD REQUIRE A NEW SUBFRAME. IT'S THE ONLY RUST ON THE CAR. RESEARCH ONLINE FOUND THAT IN 2012 THE CENTER FOR AUTOMOTIVE SAFETY IDENTIFIED THIS AS A PERSISTENT PROBLEM WITH ACCORDS, AS HONDA DESIGNED THE AC TO VENT CONDENSATION DIRECTLY ONTO THE SUBFRAME. THEY ASKED HONDA TO DO A VOLUNTARY RECALL, AS BOTH TOYOTA AND FORD DID WITH SIMILAR ISSUES FOR SIMILAR YEARS. HONDA'S CUSTOMER SERVICE SAID THAT THEY HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE OF THIS BEING A PROBLEM, AND DENIED THE RECALL. *TR
MY TRANSMISSION FAILED BECAUSE I WAS TOLD THE TORQUE CONVERTER SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED BY THE MANUFACTURER HONDA IMMEDIATELY AFTER HONDA REALIZED THE 199 HONDA ACCORD TORQUE CONVERTERS WERE FAULTY. I PURCHASED MY CAR NEW AND WAS NOT TOLD ABOUT THE SITUATION UNTIL THE TRANSMISSION FAILED DUE TO THE FAULTY TORQUE CONVERTER. HONDA DID NOT SET UP A RECALL OR NOTIFY 199 HONDA ACCORD OWNERS. THEY PAID FOR THE REPAIRS WHEN THE TRANSMISSIONS FAILED FOR A FEW YEARS. I HAVE ONLY 62,45A MILES ON MY CAR AND NOW HAVE A $3007.00 BILL TO REPLACE MY TRANSMISSION. THIS WOULD NOT HAVE OCCURRED IF I WAS TOLD TO REPLACE THE TORQUE CONVERTER BY HONDA AS SOON AS THEY WERE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. I SHOULD BE REIMBURSED BY HONDA. THEY REFUSE TO DO SO. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AT A VERY SLOW SPEED OF 15 MPH ON 11/21/14. I TAPPED A CURB IN A PARKING LOT AND THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. AN OFFICER WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE AND WAS ALSO SURPRISED THAT THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED WITHOUT ANY FRONT-END DAMAGE OR WITH SUCH A SLIGHT IMPACT. A MECHANIC ALSO VERIFIED THAT THERE WAS NO UNDER-CARRIAGE DAMAGE AND WAS ALSO PUZZLED AS TO WHY THIS HAPPENED. WE CONTACTED HONDA OF AMERICA WHO WAS NOT ONLY RUDE BUT WAS NOT THE LEAST BIT HELPFUL. WE ARE HOPING FOR SOME ASSISTANCE, ESPECIALLY IN LIGHT OF THE VAST RECALL OF THE TAKATA AIRBAGS WHICH IS WHAT WE HAVE. DUE TO THE AGE OF OUR CAR, WE DROPPED THE COLLISION COVERAGE AND THE AIRBAGS WERE CONSIDERED TO BE COVERED UNDER COLLISION. WE ARE NOT FINANCIALLY ABLE TO PURCHASE ANOTHER VEHICLE AND THIS IS A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE US. *TR

ALL THE LIGHTS, RADIO, DASHBOARD CAME ON, BUT WHEN I TURNED THE IGNITION TO START IT WOULDN'T TURNOVER. ALSO WHEN I GO TO SLOW DOWN OR STOP THE CAR CUTS COMPLETELY OFF. IT HAPPENS MORE OFTEN THAN IT DOESN'T. *TR
MY CAR HAS BEEN MAKING CLUNKING NOISE FROM THE BOTTOM FOR ABOUT 2-3 WEEKS AND HAS BEEN GETTING WORSE. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC, HE SHOWED ME THE CRADLE/SUBFRAME ON THE PASSENGER SIDE RUSTED HEAVILY AND ALMOST BREAKING OFF. IN RESEARCHING ON THE INTERNET I SEE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH 1999-2002 ACCORDS, DUE TO WATER LEAKING FROM AC CONDENSATION. THIS HAS BEEN REPORTED AS A SERIOUS MECHANICAL/FRAME ISSUE WITH POSSIBILITY OF BECOMING CATASTROPHIC. MY MECHANIC IS LOOKING TO ORDER THE SUBFRAME FROM AN HONDA DEALER BUT I THINK THIS IS A SERIOUS DESIGN PROBLEM. THESE VEHICLES SHOULD BE RECALLED AND FIXED BY HONDA. *TR
THE SUBFRAME OF MY 1999 HONDA ACCORD EX HAS ROTTED THROUGH. THIS IS LOCATED ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE NEAR THE STRUT ASSEMBLY, PRESUMABLY BENEATH THE AIR CONDITIONER DRAIN, AS NOTED BY OTHERS ON POSTINGS ON THE WORLD WIDE WEB. THE VEHICLE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION OTHERWISE, ESPECIALLY WITH VERY LOW MILES (77,000 MILES) I CONTACTED HONDA OF AMERICA AND THEY STATE THAT THE ROT IS NOT COVERED BY THEM. THIS WILL COST ME $1800 TO REPAIR. THERE IS NO OTHER ROT ON THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE ONLY HAS 77,000 MILES. MY MECHANIC SAYS IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. IT APPEARS TO BE THE RESULT OF A DESIGN FLAW RELATING TO THE LOCATION OF THE AIR CONDITIONER DRAIN. HONDA SHOULD BE MADE TO REPAIR THIS UNSAFE SITUATION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING INSPECTED, THE TECHNICIAN NOTICED THAT THE SUBFRAME WAS COMPLETELY CORRODED. THE DEALER STATED THAT A NEW SUBFRAME WAS NEEDED IN ORDER TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 287,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE WITHOUT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BEING DEPRESSED. THE DRIVER ATTEMPTED TO USE THE BRAKES TO SLOW THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED, MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE, THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO SHIFT INTO PARK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ACCELERATOR WAS STUCK IN POSITION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 189,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON SIX OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SUB FRAME ON THE PASSENGER SIDE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,016.
I STARTED DRIVING DOWN A FREEWAY SIDE-ROAD AND AS I APPROACHED A STOP SIGN THE BRAKES SLOWLY WENT DOWN TO THE FLOOR. USING THE REGULAR BRAKES AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE I STOPPED WITHOUT INCIDENT. I PULLED OVER AND FOUND THAT THE BRAKE LINE HAD A LARGE LEAK APPROXIMATELY IN THE MIDDLE AND UNDERNEATH THE CAR. AS I WORKED ON REPLACING ALL OF THE BRAKE LINES ONE OF THE FUEL LINES ALSO COLLAPSED SO I REPLACED ALL OF THE FUEL AND BRAKE LINES TO BE CERTAIN OF THEIR RELIABILITY. *TR
MY 1999 HONDA ACCORD HAD A STRANGE PASSENGER-SIDE BODY SOUND WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEED. I WENT TO THE LOCAL MECHANIC WHO SAID THE PASSENGER SIDE SUB-FRAME WAS THOROUGHLY RUSTED. I SPENT $3300 TOTAL TO REPLACE THE SUB-FRAME WITH A NEW ONE FROM A HONDA DEALER FOR $982.18 AND TWO DAYS OF LABOR FOR $1100. THE MECHANIC AND I BOTH REVIEWED THE INTERNET FOR HONDA ACCORD RECALLS ON THIS SUB-FRAME FOR THE 1999-2002 MODEL YEARS. I WAS SURPRISED THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL AS I WAS LUCKY TO NOTICE THIS BEFORE IT BECAME A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. AS THE MECHANIC REPLACED THIS LABOR-INTENSIVE SUB-FRAME, THE RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLY ALSO WAS TOTALLY RUSTED AND NEED REPLACEMENT - THE ASSEMBLY COSTING $417.49. ALSO A MAJOR LEAK OCCURRED IN THE POWER STEERING PRESSURE HOSE THAT HAD TO BE REPLACED WITH THE PART COSTING $148.89. *TR
MY 16 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS COMING HOME FROM SCHOOL IN THE RAIN AND WAS UNABLE TO STOP IN TIME TO KEEP FROM REAR ENDING ANOTHER VEHICLE. OUR CAR SUSTAINED EXTREME FRONT END DAMAGE. DURING LATE NIGHT DRIVE IN CLEAR WEATHER AT ABOUT 30 MPH, AUTO VEERED INTO UTILITY POLE HITTING ON DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT. THE HONDA ACCORD COUPE HAS SEAT BELT WHOSE HEIGHT WHERE MOUNTED TO SIDE BODY OF CAR IS NOT ADJUSTABLE. THE SEAT BELT WORN CORRECTLY BY DRIVER, CUT ACROSS THE NECK OF THE 5'3" DRIVER AND ABOVE HER RIGHT BREAST. DRIVER WAS TRANSPORTED BY AMBULANCE TO TWO HOSPITALS (THE FIRST DIDN'T FEEL IT COULD HANDLE THE INJURY). THE ONLY MAJOR INJURY WAS C2 CERVICAL FRACTURE REQUIRING (SO FAR) THE WEARING OF A RIGID MIAMI J NECK BRACE. FOLLOWUP WITH NEUROSURGEON WILL DETERMINE WHETHER THE INJURED NECK IS HEALING PROPERLY OR WILL REQUIRE SURGERY. *TR

1999 HONDA ACCORD WAS SUBJECT OF A RECALL IN MAY 2002 FOR IGNITION SWITCH THAT THE CAR WOULD SHUT DOWN UNEXPECTEDLY. REPAIR WAS COMPLETED ON SUBJECT AUTO AND HAS NOT HAD ANY FURTHER PROBLEMS WITH THE SWITCH UNTIL TWO WEEKS AGO. THE CAR WOULD SHUT DOWN AND DID AT 65MPH IN TRAFFIC. MANAGED TO STEER TO THE ROADSIDE AND RESTART THE CAR. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A MAJOR ACCIDENT! THE SWITCH HAS AGAIN BEEN REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE. THIS IS NOT RIGHT. *JS
WE HAVE BEEN TOLD BY A CERTIFIED MECHANIC THAT THE FRONT SUBFRAME OR CRADLE ON OUR 1999 HONDA ACCORD IS RUSTED BEYOND REPAIR AND DUE TO THE RUST, ANY PARTS THAT ATTACH TO THE SUBFRAME, SUCH AS THE UPPER CONTROL ARMS AND STRUTS, CANNOT BE SAFELY REPLACED DUE TO THE CONDITION OF THE SUBFRAME. THE MECHANIC ESTIMATED THAT THE SUBFRAME WILL BECOME A SAFETY ISSUE WITHIN THE NEXT 6 MONTHS AND SUGGESTED IT BE REPLACED. LEAKING TRANSMISSION FLUID, TRANSMISSION SLIPS AND WON'T REALLY ENGAGE AT TIMES. WHEN I STOP MY CAR MY IT STARTS STUTTERS AND THEN IT JERKS WHILE ACCELERATING. MY TRANSMISSION POPS IN AND OUT OF GEAR. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. WHEN I TURN THE CORNER MY CAR BASICALLY STOPS. I HAVE 2 CODES ON MY VEHICLE P0740 THE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID VALVE IS ACTIVATED, WITH THE GEAR IN D4, BY THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM) IN RESPONSE TO SIGNALS SENT FROM THE VEHICLE SPEED AND THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM). LOCK-UP PISTON OPERATION WILL THEN BE CONTROLLED. WHEN THE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH SOLENOID VALVE IS ACTIVATED, THE TORQUE CONVERTER LOCKUP CLUTCH WILL ENGAGE CREATING A 1 TO 1 RPM RATIO BETWEEN THE TRANSMISSION INPUT SHAFT AND THE ROTATIONAL SPEED OF THE TORQUE CONVERTER. LOCK-UP OPERATION, HOWEVER, IS PROHIBITED WHEN A/T FLUID TEMPERATURE IS TOO LOW. WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS DEPRESSED (LESS THAN 2/8) IN LOCK-UP CONDITION, THE ENGINE SPEED SHOULD NOT CHANGE ABRUPTLY. IF THERE IS A BIG JUMP IN ENGINE SPEED, THERE IS NO LOCK-UP. THEN THE OTHER IS P0700 THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM) MONITORS THE MALFUNCTION OF SENSORS AND ACTUATORS RELATING TO TRANSMISSION CONTROL. THE FRAME SECTION HAS LOST SO MUCH MATERIAL THAT IT FLEXES WHEN DOWNWARD PRESSURE IS APPLIED TO THE HUB ASSEMBLY. THE LEFT SIDE OF THE FRONT FRAME IS INTACT AND FULLY FUNCTIONAL SHOWING NO SIMILAR SIGNS OF RUST. *TR

WHILE SEARCHING ON LINE FOR PARTS I WAS MADE AWARE THAT THIS PROBLEM WAS QUITE COMMON FOR HONDAS OF SIMILAR MAKE AND YEAR. VISUAL INSPECTION OF THE LOWER RIGHT SUB FRAME IS DISINTEGRATED TO THE POINT THAT THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. OTHER PARTS DO NOT APPEAR AFFECTED.
