TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO REMOVE HIS KEY FROM THE IGNITION BY ACCIDENT. THE LOCAL DEALER STATED THAT THE LOCKING CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, BUT THEY DID NOT MAKE ANY REPAIRS. A COMPLAINT WAS FILED WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 71,000. UPDATED 01/09/08. *LJ THE CONSUMER STATED INADVERTENTLY REMOVED KEY FROM IGNITION WHILE CAR WAS IN DRIVE AND VEHICLE BEGAN TO ROLL BACKWARDS. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SRS (SAFETY RESTRAINT SYSTEM) LIGHTS ILLUMINATED IN HER VEHICLE AND WOULD NOT DIM. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT SWITCH WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER ASKED HER TO SIGN A RELEASE, BUT THE CONTACT REFUSED. THE PARTS FOR THE REPAIR WERE ORDERED IN MARCH OF 2008 AND WHEN SHE CALLED AGAIN IN APRIL 10, 2008, SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THE PARTS WERE ON BACKORDER. MOST RECENTLY, WHEN SHE WENT TO THE DEALER TO CHECK THE STATUS, SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS NO RECORD OF THE ORDER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 47,800 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,834. 2000 HONDA. CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF FRONT LEFT BALL JOINT. (SEE PRIOR RECALL OF HONDAS 1998-1999 FOR THIS, ALSO.) LEFT URN INTO A DRIVEWAY, FROM VIRTUAL STANDSTILL. LEFT FRONT BALL-JOINT/KNUCKLE FAILED, SUSPENSION COLLAPSE, TEARING AWAY OF UNDERCARRIAGE, WHEEL COLLAPSE.
SRS LIGHT HAS BEEN ON FOR OVER A YEAR. THE DEALER SAID IT WOULD BE VERY EXPENSIVE TO HAVE IT "LOOKED AT." RECENTLY, THE O2 SENSOR CAME ON AND I'VE MADE 3 TRIPS TO HAVE IT FIXED. IT WILL COST ME 420.20 TO HAVE THE PROBLEM SOLVED. I'VE BEEN READING ABOUT RECALLS FOR THIS VERY PROBLEM, AND AS A SENIOR, I'D SURE APPRECIATE SOME HELP. THIS DOESN'T SEEM FAIR. *TR
"2000 4-DOOR HONDA LX" - ON OR ABOUT OCTOBER 2007, ITS SRS READINESS INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED. DURING ITS REGULAR MAINTENANCE SERVICE, I TOOK THE CAR TO HONDA SANTA ANA, CA AND COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS SITUATION. THE SRS LIGHT WAS RESET ONLY TO FIND OUT AFTER 3 DAYS THAT IT CAME BACK ON. ON JANUARY 2008 AND MARCH 2008, THE SAME SITUATION WAS HANDLED BY SANTA ANA HONDA AND AFTER 6-10 DAYS, THE LIGHT TURNED ON AGAIN AND AGAIN. I WAS FINALLY INFORMED THAT THE CONTROL PANEL TO THE SRS UNIT WAS DEFECTIVE. BECAUSE THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED LONG AFTER THIS PROBLEM PERSISTED, THE SERVICE ADVISOR INDICATED THAT IF SANTA ANA HONDA WERE TO FIX THE EQUIPMENT, IT WOULD COST ME AT LEAST $1,600 WHICH WAS REDUCED BY 30% BY ITS SERVICE MANAGER JOHN MARKER. IT WAS THEN THAT I BROUGHT UP THE CASE TO AMERICAN NORTH HONDA MOTOR CO INC AND WAS HANDLED BY WAYNE AT 1(800) 999-1009 EXT. 118198. WAYNE CALLED AND INFORMED ME THAT THEY ARE PARTICIPATING TO THIS REPAIR BY REDUCING THE COST BY $300. IT DIDN'T MAKE LOGICAL SENSE TO ME THAT THE CONSUMER IS LIABLE FOR COSTS INVOLVED IN FIXING A SAFETY-RELATED DEVICE THAT CAME WITH THE VEHICLE. THE FACT THAT BOTH SANTA ANA HONDA AND NORTH AMERICAN HONDA ARE BOTH CONTRIBUTING TO THE COSTS OF THIS REPAIR, TELLS ME THAT THIS IS A DEFECT OF THE VEHICLE. MY FAMILY'S 1999 TOYOTA CAMRY AND FRIENDS' 2000 TOYOTA COROLLA NEVER HAD THEIR SRS WORN OUT IN THE COURSE OF TIME, WHY WOULD HONDA HAVE THIS PROBLEM? PLEASE ASSIST ME CONTACT HONDA TO CARRY THE BURDEN OF THIS COSTS OR EXTEND THE WARRANTY. MY CURRENT MILEAGE IS NOW 120,000. *TR
I NOTICED WHEN I STOPPED MY CAR MADE AN ABNORMAL IDOL NOISE. I TOOK MY CAR INTO THE LOCAL HONDA DEALER WHO PROCEEDED TO INFORM ME THAT THE SPARK PLUG IN MY CAR WAS STRIPPED AND THE THREADING COILS WERE NOW COMPLETELY STRIPPED AS WELL AND THE CYLINDER HEAD NEEDS REPLACED. THE SPARK PLUG IN THE CAR IS A GENUINE HONDA SPARK PLUG WHICH IF THIS IS NOT CAUSED BY NORMAL WEAR THEN IT MUST HAVE BEEN POOR WORKMANSHIP. HONDA IS ONLY WILLING TO PAY FOR HALF OF THE DAMAGE (TOTAL COST IS $2000.75) I AM STUCK BECAUSE I DO NOT FEEL I SHOULD PAY FOR DAMAGES THAT WERE INCURRED WHILE THE SPARK PLUGS WERE PLACED BY HONDA. *JB

THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE SRS WARNING LIGHT WOULD CONSISTENTLY ILLUMINATE ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL, WHICH INDICATED THAT THE AIR BAGS WERE INOPERATIVE. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER ON TWO OCCASIONS AND THEY PERFORMED ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, WHICH TEMPORARILY CORRECTED THE ISSUE. WEEKS LATER, THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. SHE TOOK HER VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT SHE NEEDED TO REPLACE BOTH COMPONENTS AT THE DISCOUNTED COST OF $2,600. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CONTACT SENT A LETTER TO THE MANUFACTURER, BUT NEVER RECEIVED A RESPONSE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 122,000.
I HAVE A 2000 HONDA ACCORD SE WITH 85K. MY SRS LIGHT RECENTLY CAME ON AND HONDA WANTS A $100 TO CHECK IT OUT. MY COUSIN HAS THE SAME EXACT VEHICLE AND HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. SO I DECIDED TO GOOGLE THE PROBLEM. IT SEEMS EVERYONE IS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. I HAVEN'T TAKING THE CAR IN YET TO GET IT FIXED BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY FOR THEM TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. BUT HOPEFULLY THERE WILL BE SOME SORT OF RECALL SINCE THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A DEFECT IN THE SYSTEM AND WHEN THE LIGHT IS ON THE SAFETY SYSTEMS SUCH AS THE AIRBAGS WILL NOT WORK. *TR

MY 2000 HONDA ACCORD SE V4 AUTO HAS THE MILEAGE OF 86,000. NO ACCIDENT OR ANYTHING. OUT OF NOWHERE, SRS LIGHT STAYED ON. I HAVE NOTHING ON OR AROUND THE PASSAGE SEAT. THE CAR DOES NOT HAVE SIDE AIRBAGS. IT BOTHERS ME A LOT BECAUSE OF SAFETY CONCERN. I CALLED HONDA DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY'D NEED THE CAR DURING WEEKDAY FOR A WHOLE DAY TO DIAGNOSE, AND COST WOULD BE FROM $150.00 AND UP. SKY IS THE LIMIT. BESIDES, I CAN'T GO TO WORK WITHOUT THE CAR OR I HAVE TO RENT A CAR MYSELF. WHAT A HASSLE. I AM NOT SURE IF HONDA WARRANTY COVERS SRS LIGHT. I CONTACTED HONDA AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOT A RECALL AND WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER AFTER 10 YEARS OR 150,000 MILES (WHICH EVER CAME FIRST) I HAVE 188,000 ON MY CAR SO I DID SOME SEARCHING ON THE INTERNET AND WAS STUNNED TO FIND SO MANY PEOPLE LOOKING FOR A SOLUTION TO GET THE SRS LIGHT OFF. SO IF I AM IN A ACCIDENT WILL THE AIRBAGS DEPLOY? I THINK SOMEONE SHOULD FIND OUT BEFORE A DEATH RESULTS FROM THIS ISSUE THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND SHOULD DEFINITELY BE LOOKED INTO. OCCUPANT POSITION DETECTION SYSTEM FAILS. PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR FAILED ACCORDING TO DEALER DIAGNOSTICS. ITEM WAS REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY AT 125,000 MILES. SAME COMPONENT HAS FAILED AGAIN 13 MONTHS LATER AT 155,000 MILES.

IGNITION KEY CAN BE REMOVED FROM IGNITION WITHOUT TRANSMISSION SELECTOR BEING PUT INTO PARK. ACCORDING TO HONDA THE VIN NUMBER IS NOT IN THE RANGE OF RECALLS AND WILL NOT REPAIR THIS PROBLEM UNLESS I PAY FOR THE REPAIR. *TR

I & MY INLAW BOUGHT THE 2000 HONDA ACCORD EX IN THE SAME WEEK (9/1999), AFTER 7 YEARS, THE SRS LIGHT CAME ON AT THE SAME TIME WITH NO INCIDENTS OCCURRED. ALSO IN THE LAST COUPLE DAYS, THE BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON. I CALLED HONDA MANUFACTURER, THEY REJECTED THE PROBLEM BECAUSE ONLY CERTAIN VEHICLE THEY COVER UP TO 10 YEARS ON THE OPDS (OCCUPANT POSITION DETECTION SYSTEM) UNIT, WHICH FAILED AND CAUSED THE SRS LIGHT CAME ON. *TR
WITHOUT ANY REASON WHATSOEVER, SRS LIGHT CAME ON AND DEALER WOULD NOT EVEN DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM WITHOUT A SUBSTANTIAL PAYMENT. I'VE READ ON THE WEB THAT MANY HONDA USERS EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM AROUND 100K MILES. AIR BAGS ARE FEDERALLY MANDATED SAFETY EQUIPMENT LIKE SEATBELTS. SEATBELTS ARE COVERED BY LIFE-TIME WARRANTY AND SO SHOULD BE THE AIR BAGS. THE CUSTOMER SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR FAILURES OF LIFE-SAVING EQUIPMENT THAT IS NOT DUE TO WEAR AND TEAR OR ACCIDENT. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO HER LEFT LEG AND SIDE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE SEAT BELT DID NOT RESTRAIN HER FROM MOVING FORWARD AND THE AIR BAG FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE DEALER REPLACED THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE IN JUNE OF 2007 AND DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE SRS LIGHT ILLUMINATING. IN AUGUST OF 2002, THE SRS WAS REPLACED DUE TO RECALL NUMBER 02V051000 (SEAT BELTS:FRONT:BUCKLE ASSEMBLY). HONDA ALSO SENT AN INVESTIGATOR TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE AND CONCLUDED THAT THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 51,250 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,184. THE CONSUMER STATED WAS SEVERELY INJURED WITH HERNIA ON RIGHT SIDE AND FRACTURED PELVIS ON LEFT MAJOR SURGERY TO BE PERFORMED. THE CONSUMER FURTHER STATED SEATBELT DID NOT RESTRAIN NOR DID AIRBAGS DEPLOY. UPDATED 09/10/07 *TR

THEY SAID IF IT GOES ON AGAIN I MAY NEED A NEW SYSTEM WHICH CAN RUN UP TO $1000 OR MORE. IF THIS IS AN IMPORTANT SAFETY COMPONENT AS DEFINED BY NHTSA, WHY IS NOT COVERED BY A LIFETIME WARRANTY? *AK

ENGINE RESTART AFTER SECOND ATTEMPT BUT COMPLETE FAILURE AGAIN. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND ALL DASH INSTRUMENTATION ILLUMINATED PRIOR TO SECOND ENGINE FAILURE. CAR TOWED TO HONDA DEALERSHIP. OWNER INFORMED THAT EGR VALVE FAILED. OWNER INFORMED THAT IT WAS IMPOSSIBLE FOR THE EGR TO FAIL WHILE CAR WAS IN MOTION. THAT SIMPLY IS NOT TRUE AS THIS FAILURE INDEED HAPPENED TO THIS VEHICLE WHILE IN MOTION. TOTAL REPAIR COST NOT PROVIDED AT THIS TIME. NO PRIOR INDICATION OF EGR PROBLEMS PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. *JB

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO TURN LEFT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL STUCK AND THE VEHICLE JERKED FORWARD. THE VEHICLE FINALLY STOPPED AFTER STRIKING A PARKED VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO RUN AND WOULD ONLY SHUT OFF BY TURNING THE IGNITION SWITCH. THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT BUMPER AND FENDER WERE DAMAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A HONDA DEALER, AND HAS BEEN REPAIRED. I HAD LEFT THE CAR IN A PARKING STRUCTURE. APPARENTLY I HAD LEFT THE GEAR IN REVERSE RATHER THAN IN PARK. AFTER LEAVING THE CAR WITH MY IGNITION KEY IN HAND THE CAR BEGAN TO ROLL, AND SUBSEQUENTLY CRASHED INTO ANOTHER CAR WHICH WAS PARKED. THE DAMAGE WAS MINIMAL, BUT COSTLY TO REPAIR ANYHOW. THERE WAS A WOMAN WITH A BABY IN A CARRIAGE WHICH WAS NARROWLY MISSED BY THE MOVING VEHICLE. I HAVE SINCE LEARNED THAT I SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION WITH THE GEAR SHIFT LEVER NOT IN PARK. IN FACT, THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL 05V025000 FOR THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. ALTHOUGH ALMOST 500000 CARS OF THE SAME YEAR AND MODEL OF MINE WERE AFFECTED BY THE RECALL, MY PARTICULAR VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. HONDA DISCLAIMS ANY RESPONSIBILITY SINCE MY WARRANTY HAS LONG EXPIRED AND MY CAR IS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL. IT WAS INTERESTING THAT THE RECALL NOTICE INCLUDED THE FOLLOWING WORDS UNDER "DEFECT CONSEQUENCE:" "IF THE DRIVER DOES NOT SHIFT TO PARK BEFORE REMOVING THE KEY AND FAILED TO ENGAGE THE PARKING BRAKE, THE VEHICLE COULD ROLL AND A CRASH COULD OCCUR" THIS WAS THE EXACT SCENARIO OF THE INCIDENT WHICH OCCURRED. *AK
I CONTINUE TO GET THESE E-MAIL UPDATES AND MY PROBLEMS WITH MY 2000 HONDA ACCORD SOUND SO EERILY FAMILIAR. I HAD 2 MAJOR ISSUES WITH MY HONDA BEGINNING WELL BEFORE 70,000 MILES. I TOO WAS METICULOUS ABOUT MAINTAINING MY VEHICLE EVERY 3 MONTH AT THE DEALER. FIRST I EXPERIENCED A TRANSMISSION FAILURE. THEY "REPLACED" IT UNDER THE RECALL...WITHIN 3 WEEKS THE "REPLACED" TRANSMISSION FAILED. THEY "REPLACED" IT AGAIN; I THEN FOUND OUT THAT IT WAS "REPLACED" WITH A "REBUILT" TRANSMISSION AND NOT A NEW ONE. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, I EXPERIENCE ALL KINDS OF "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT CODES. IT WAS NEVER ENDING FOR 6 MONTHS...OF COURSE EVERYTHING WAS MY FAULT. THE DEALER INSISTED THAT I REPLACED MY OWN RADIATOR FLUID AND THAT MY RADIATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. TRUST ME, I AM NOT MECHANICAL WHATSOEVER. IT WAS ALWAYS SERVICED BY THE DEALER...FINALLY I GOT CALIFORNIA INVOLVED AND AFTER ALOT OF HUBABALOO IT WAS DECIDED THAT I MIGHT NOT NEED A RADIATOR AFTER ALL AFTER AN EXPERIENCED TECH CAME OUT TO "LOOK AT THE ENGINE AND COOLING SYSTEM". LONG STORY SHORT, CALIFORNIA CALLED ME AND TOLD ME THAT MY RADIATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THEY WERE CERTAIN THAT THE ENGINE ISSUES WOULD GO AWAY. THIS WAS ALL AT 70,000 MILES. THIS CAR WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW FROM THE VERY SAME DEALER. I FIND IT IRONIC THAT OTHER FOLKS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES AND ARE BEING JERKED AROUND IN THE SAME MANNER. I OWN A 2000 HONDA ACCORD EX-V6. MY SRS LIGHT HAS COME ON TWICE NOW. THE FIRST TIME I HAD IT RESET BY THE DEALER, AND IT COST ME $100. THEY ALSO CLAIMED IT WAS MY FRONT IMPACT SENSOR. THIS VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN BUMPED OR HAD AN ACCIDENT SINCE I HAVE OWNED IT, SO I FAIL TO SEE HOW THAT COULD BREAK. NOW, THE SECOND TIME, THE SRS LIGHT HAS AGAIN COME ON AND HAS BEEN ON MY DASH FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. I AM FAIRLY CERTAIN THAT I WILL NOT HAVE A FUNCTIONAL DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG IF EVER I AM HIT. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE READ SEVERAL SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SRS LIGHT SITUATION ON YOUR SITE AND MANY OTHERS.
