I OWN A 2000 HONDA ACCORD EX. MY SRS LIGHT CAME ON AT APPROXIMATELY 80,000 MILES. MY WARRANTY EXPIRED AT 75,000 MILES. ACCORDING TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP, THEY HAVE TRIED TO RE-SET THE UNIT BUT IT WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE SPOKEN TO ANOTHER HONDA ACCORD OWNER AT THE DEALERSHIP WHO STATES THE SAME THING HAS HAPPEN TO HIM BUT HE HAD THE UNIT REPLACED. ACCORDING TO YOUR WEBSITE, I SEE THAT THIS PROBLEM IS HAPPENING TO A LOT OF HONDA OWNERS. *JB
AT 84,366 MILES MY CAR'S CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK ACCORD TO MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THE EGR VALVE ERROR CODE APPEARED. THE MECHANIC SAID TO TAKE TO HONDA DUE TO RECALL FOR THIS PART. PICKED CAR UP FROM MECHANIC AND CAR ALSO HAD SRS LIGHT ON. RESEARCHED ONLINE SINCE I ALREADY HAVE RECALL FOR DASH LIGHT. FOUND MANY OTHER HONDA OWNERS WITH SAME SRS LIGHT. FOUND OUT MY AIR BAGS WILL NOT FUNCTION IF SENSOR ILLUMINATED. ALSO, CALLED HONDA AND THEY SAID I WAS BEYOND THE MILEAGE (80K) FOR THE EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE DEFECTIVE EGR VALVE REPLACEMENT. ASKED WHAT HONDA WAS DOING ABOUT THE FRONT AIRBAGS AND WAS TOLD NO DECISION HAS BEEN MADE. I HAVE ALSO DISCOVERED MY CAR HAS THE EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR DEFECTIVE/FAULTY TRANSMISSION. SO WHEN I'M DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY MY TRANMSMISSION MAY GIVE OUT AT HIGH RATE OF SPEED AND IF COLLSION OCCURS, MY AIR BAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY. MY SEAT WELD JOINT BROKE AT 54K TOO! I USED A 99 TOYOTA 4RUNNER AS REPLACEMENT VEHICLE AND DISCOVERED THE SEATBELT WARNING LIGHT CAME ON WHEN MY 40LB. DOG SAT IN PASSENGER FRONT SEAT. MY ACCORD NEVER HAS DETECTED MY DOG IN THE FRONT SEAT EVER! THIS CAR IS RIDDLED WITH SAFETY DEFECTS AND POOR MANUFACTURING. HONDA SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR PROTECTING THE OWNERS FROM INJURY INCLUDING MONETARY REPAIRS/ REPLACEMENT COSTS FOR ALL OF THESE SAFETY DEFECTS AND ENGINE DEFECTS. *NM
PASSENGER SIDE SEAT WILL NOT LOCK INTO POSITION. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, PASSENGERS HAVE BEEN THROWN FORWARD IN THE SEAT WHEN STOPPING ABRUPTLY WITH THE SEAT BELT TIGHTENING TO A SEVERELY UNCOMFORTABLE STATE. THIS HAS BEEN REPORTED TO THE DEALER ON 2 OCCASIONS - EACH TIME THEY REPORT THERE IS NO PROBLEM. *NM
AFTER A 200 MILE DRIVE ON A RAINY DAY (NOV 29,2005), THE SRS LIGHT CAME ON AND HAS NOT GONE OFF. THE RAIN MAY BE A COINCIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS HIT IN FRONT, BUT DID NOT SET OFF THE AIRBAGS. LIVING IN ATLANTA, DRIVING IN OUR TRAFFIC AT A RATE OF 3000+ MILES PER MONTH, I AM NOT EXCITED ABOUT NOT HAVING WORKING AIRBAGS. SEVERAL MECHANICS HAVE ATTEMPTED TO DIAGNOSE, BUT NO PERMANENT SOLUTION HAS BEEN FOUND. *JB
SRS LIGHT KEEPS ON COMING ON. *JB
I HAVE A 2000 HONDA ACCORD LX V6 4DOOR SEDAN. AFTER THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN DRIVEN FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES, THE ENGINE FAILED TO START AFTER IT WAS SHUT OFF FOR 5-10 MINUTES. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED, THE CAR WAS ONLY 2 YEARS OLD. EACH TIME I TRY TO RESTART THE ENGINE, THE ENGINE WOULD TURNOVER AND RUN FOR ABOUT 2 SECONDS AND THEN STALLED. EACH TIME I WOULD HAVE TO DEPRESS THE GAS TO GET THE ENGINE GOING AND IF I RELEASE THE GAS, THE ENGINE WOULD DIE. THE ENGINE SOUNDS LIKE IT'S RUNNING OUT OF GAS AND JUST DIE. THE STRANGE PART IS IF I CAN GET THE CAR IN GEAR AND DRIVE WITH THE GAS APPLIED FOR ABOUT ONE BLOCK, THE ENGINE WOULD RETURN TO NORMAL. THIS CAN BE DANGEROUS SINCE I HAVE TO DEPRESS THE GAS AND BRAKE AT THE SAME TIME SO THE VEHICLE WOULD STAY IN CONTROL. I WENT TO THE DEALER AND THEY HOOKED UP SOME KIND OF COMPUTER TO THE CAR AND THEY SAID THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND ANY PROBLEM. THE ACCORD IS A NICE CAR BUT THIS CONSTANT ENGINE-STARTING PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. *NM
I OWN A 2000 HONDA ACCORD SE AND THE SRS INDICATOR ILLUMINATED CAUSING ME TO TAKE INTO MY HONDA MECHANIC. HE RAN A DIAGNOSTIC AND DISCOVERED A TEMPORARY CODE 09-03 INDICATES A MALFUNCTION IN THE DRIVERS SEAT BELT SWITCH. THIS COST ME $75. HE SCANNED THE ENGINE COMPUTER FOR STORED CODES AND RETRIEVED THE TEMPORARY CODE 09-03 OCCURRED 14 TIMES OVER 157 KEY CYCLES. FELT PROBLEM WAS VERY INTERMITTENT AND RESET SHOULD LAST A WHILE OR NEVER RETURN. NOT MORE THAN A FEW DAYS LATER, THE SRS ILLUMINATED. CALLED MECHANIC AND HE SAID TO BRING THE CAR IN AND WE WILL RESET; NO CHARGE. THIS BACK-AND-FORTH CONTINUED FOR A WHILE UNTIL IT JUST BECAME COMPLETELY INCONVENIENT AND HAD TO CONSIDER HOW TO FIX. OPTIONS WERE TO: 1) REPLACE THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE ON AN EDUCATED GUESS WITH NO GUARANTEE THIS WILL SOLVE THE PROBLEM. COST: $250. 2) CONTINUE THE TEST PROCEDURES THEY HAVE AND REMOVE SEAT AND DISASSEMBLING THE SEAT COVER TO INSPECT THE SEAT BELT WIRING, AGAIN WITH NO GUARANTEE. COST: $225. I HAVE NOT SELECTED EITHER OPTION AS I FEEL IT IS A HONDA DEFECT AND SHOULD BE COVERED BY THEM. *JB
THE CASE # IS N012005121900955. THIS IS MY STORY: I WAS DRIVING NORTH ON I-5 IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. WHEN I SLOWED DOWN TO ABOUT 40 MILES AN HOUR MY CAR JUST DIED. I WAS ABLE TO BARELY ABLE START THE CAR AND SLOWLY DROVE OFF THE OFF THE ROAD LESS THAN 50 FEET. I BARELY MADE IT OFF THE ROAD. I HAD NO CLUE HAPPENED. UP TO THAT POINT CAR RAN GOOD. FORTUNATELY I WAS ON THE FAR RIGHT LANE. IT COULD HAVE BEEN DISASTROUS WITH ALL THE TRAFFIC. I WONDER IF ANY ACCIDENTS HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY HARMONIC BALANCER COMING LOOSE AND LOOSING ALL POWER? BOTH FAN BELTS WERE OFF. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION BY THE HI WAY RESCUE TEAM, HE NOTICED THAT THE HARMONIC BALANCER WAS NOT INLINE. I CALLED TACOMA HONDA THE FOLLOWING MORNING AND INQUIRED ABOUT THE HARMONIC BALANCER COMING LOOSE ON HONDA ENGINES AND THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID HE HASN'T HEARD ANY PROBLEMS. SO I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A MECHANIC FRIEND OF MINE, VIN, AND HE REPAIRED. VIN INFORMED ME THAT HE WORKED ON ONE WHO HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN ABOUT THE SAME DAY ON A 1999 HONDA WITH LESS MILES. ALSO HIS FRIEND HAD A HARMONIC BALANCE COME LOOSE ON A PRELUDE. I DON'T KNOW WHAT YEAR THIS CAR WAS MADE. THIS CANNOT BE JUST A TACOMA, WASHINGTON PROBLEM. I ASKED THE PARTS MANAGER ABOUT HARMONIC BALANCERS COMING LOOSE AND HE SAID HE HAS HEARD OF IT. A HARMONIC BALANCER SHOULD NEVER COME LOOSE FOR 2 REASONS. ONE, IT IS TIGHTEN SO TIGHT THAT YOU CAN NOT LOOSEN IT WITH A IMPACT WRENCH. TWO, IT TURN AGAINST THE DIRECTION OF THE THREAD. THIS IS WHAT CARLA TOLD ME THIS MORNING THAT SHE IS NOT AWARE OF ANY PROBLEMS SIMILAR TO WHAT I EXPERIENCED. I WILL WAIT FOR A WEEK FOR ANY FEEDBACK FROM YOU. IF YOUR RESEARCH FINDS NO PROBLEMS WITH HARMONIC BALANCER COMING LOOSE I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO FIND OUT HOW MANY HARMONIC BALANCERS HAS BEEN SOLD OR REPLACED. I WILL WRITE TO NHTSA TO SEE IF THIS IS A FLUKE THAT HAPPENED IN TACOMA OR MORE WIDESPREAD. *NM
THE SRS LIGHT IS LIT ON THE DASHBOARD OF MY 2000 HONDA ACCORD EX. I TOOK THE CAR TO MY LOCAL DEALER WHERE THEY TOLD ME IT WOULD BE $84 FOR A DIAGNOSTIC OF THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER THEN CALLED TO TELL ME THAT THE OPDS SENSOR IS NOT WORKING AND IT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. WHILE THE CAR WAS AT THE DEALER, I GOT ON THE INTERNET AND RESEARCHED THE SRS LIGHT ON ACCORDS. I FOUND OUT THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN, DATED APRIL 23, 2004, ISSUED BY HONDA FOR ALL 2000 2-DOOR ACCORDS (AS WELL AS MANY OTHER MODELS) DECLARING THE SRS INDICATOR COMES ON WITH SRS DTC 15-1, 15-2, 15-3 , AND PROBABLE CAUSE IS A FAULTY OCCUPANT POSITION DETECTION SYSTEM (OPDS) UNIT. WITH THAT SAID, BOTH THE DEALER AND AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO., ARE AWARE OF THE SERVICE BULLETIN, AND THE FAULTY PARTS THEY SOLD IN THEIR AUTOMOBILES AND NEITHER ARE WILLING TO REPLACE THE OPDS SENSOR. *NM
KEY CAN BE REMOVED WHILE THE GEAR INDICATOR IS IN "D". IF THE CAR IS PARKED ON AN INCLINE, IT CAN BEGIN TO ROLL ONCE THE BRAKE IS DISENGAGED. THERE IS A RECALL FOR THE SAME YEAR AND MODEL WITH THIS SPECIFIC DEFECT, BUT MY ACCORD'S VIN "DOES NOT QUALIFY" FOR THE RECALL. DEALERSHIP OFFERED TO REPLACE MECHANISM AT MY EXPENSE. *JB
THE SRS LIGHT CAME ON FOR NO REASON ,THE FAILURE WAS INTERMITTENT FAILURE OF SRS UNIT, WHAT WAS DONE , HONDA RAN A SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS AND COULDN'T FIND PROBLEM, THEY CLEARED CODE FOR 98.00 DOLLARS. *JB
SRS LIGHT IS ON AGAIN, SEE ODI NUMBER 10121769 THIS IS THE FOURTH TIME IT HAS COME ON SEE PRIOR COMPLAINTS. *NM
DT:THE CONTACT COMPLAINED ABOUT THE AIR BAG SENSOR. THE AIR BAG SENSOR INDICATOR LIGHT (SRS) CAME ON INTERMITTENTLY. THE LIGHT CAME ON EVERY TIME THE CAR WAS DRIVEN. THE OPDS SWITCH SHORT CIRCUITED. THE WARRANTY ON THE SWITCH WAS FOR ONLY 36 MONTHS OR 36,000 MILES. THE SWITCH HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED.*AK UPDATED 11/29/2005 - THE CONSUMER ALSO HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE SEAT BELTS SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. THIS PROBLEM WAS BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE DEALER BUT THEY CLAIMED THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. *NM
I HAVE A 2000 HONDA ACCORD V6. IT HAS BEEN A GREAT CAR UNTIL RECENTLY. MY DOOR ON THE DRIVERS SIDE HAS LOCKED AND WILL NOT OPEN. I HAVE BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT IT WOULD COST APPROX. 800.00 TO FIX. THIS IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURER PROBLEM. I AM WORKING WITH HONDA TO TRY AND GET THEM TO FIX IT. I JUST HOPE THAT THE OTHER SIDE DOES NOT DO THAT. THIS IS MY ONLY MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION AND I WOULD HATE TO HAVE MY 4 YR. OLD NIECE WITH ME AND SOMETHING HAPPEN AND WE COULD NOT GET OUT OF THE CAR. IF THERE'S ANYTHING THAT COULD BE REPORTED PUBLICLY ABOUT THIS, I WOULD APPRECIATE IT. BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT DUE TO THE MALFUNCTION OF THE LATCHES ON THE DOORS. *NM
MY 2000 HONDA ACCORD EX STALLS AND DIES OFF WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS FOR SEVERAL TIMES IN THE LAST MONTH AT 46000 MILES. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS WHILE ON THE ROAD WITHOUT ANY WARNING. I'VE TAKEN THE CAR TO THE HONDA DEALER TO FIX THIS PROBLEM THEY SAY THAT ARE NOT ABLE TO FIND THE CAUSE FOR THIS. HOWEVER AFTER READING MANY CUSTOMER COMPLIANT ON A WEB SITE I FOUND THAT IT IS DUE TO THE MALFUNCTIONING OF THE IGNITION SWITCH. THE ELECTRICAL CONTACTS WITH IN THE IGNITION SWITCH THAT WEAR PREMATURELY CAUSING THE SWITCH TO MALFUNCTION THUS STALLING THE VEHICLE. *NM
DT: 2000 HONDA ACCORD EX - THE POWER STEERING RACK AND PINION BROKE. WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE THE MAINTENANCE INDICATOR CAME ON AND STAYED ON AND I DIDN'T HAVE ANY POWER STEERING. TOOK TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP AND THEY STATED THAT THE RACK PINION HAD BROKE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN FIXED. THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT PROVIDE ANY INFORMATION ON RECALL OR SAFETY DEFECT ON THIS PROBLEM. DT: WHILE THE CONSUMER HUSBAND WAS DRIVING, THE VEHICLE STOPPED WITH NO WARNING. HE WAS SITTING IN TRAFFIC AND THEN PUSHED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. IT WAS THEN TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY FOUND THE ALTERNATOR FAILED. THE ALTERNATOR WAS REPLACED. *AK UPDATED 12/07/05. *JB
THE SRS LIGHT ON MY CAR HAS SUDDENLY APPEARED AND WILL NOT TURN OFF. THE DEALER EXPLAINED THAT IT WAS PROBABLY A BAD OPDS SENSOR BECAUSE THEY HAVE BEEN RECEIVING SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT IT. I CHOSE NOT TO OPT FOR THE $600 REPAIR. PERHAPS ALSO RELATED IS THE FACT THAT MY SIDE AIR BAG INDICATOR TURNS ON FREQUENTLY WHENEVER A PASSENGER SHIFTS HIS WEIGHT TO ONE SIDE OF THE SEAT--IT GOES AWAY ONCE HE MOVES BACK TO THE CENTER OF THE FRONT SEAT. IT IS A HOWEVER A NUISANCE AND IS NOT WHAT I EXPECT FROM HONDA. *NM

(WARRANTY) JULY 30, 2002: SRS LIGHT CAME BACK ON, DEALER (ABOVE) DIAGNOSED CODE 15-3 AGAIN. ORDERED NEW OPDS. (WARRANTY) AUGUST 9, 2002: OPDS CONTROL UNIT REPLACED BY DEALER, REF. SERVICE BULLETIN 02-034 (WARRANTY) JULY 6, 2005: SRS LIGHT CAME BACK ON, DEALER CONFIRMED CODE 15-3, CONCLUDED OPDS SENSOR FAILURE. DID NOT REPLACE SENSOR, RESET AND AWAITING TO SEE IF CODE COMES UP AGAIN. ($92 LABOR, NON-WARRANTY) OCTOBER 4, 2005: SRS LIGHT CAME BACK ON. NOT YET REPORTED TO DEALER. ILLUMINATED SRS LIGHT. HONDA REPLACED SENSOR IN JULY 2002; HOWEVER HAD SEVERAL INSTANCES WHERE SRS LIGHT IS ILLUMINATED SINCE SENSOR REPLACEMENT. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP WOULD RESET SYSTEM; HOWEVER CHARGED FEE TO TEST SYSTEM. THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP ALSO MENTIONED TO NOT PUT ANYTHING IN PASSENGER SEAT TO AVOID LIGHT FROM COMING ON. PASSENGER SEAT IS RARELY OCCUPIED. SINCE EXTENDED WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED, SRS LIGHT IS ILLUMINATED ONCE AGAIN. *NM

(1) 2000 HONDA ACCORD WAS T-BONED ON DRIVERS SIDE OF CAR. MY CAR WAS TRAVELING AT 40-45 MPH WHEN THE IMPACT OCCURED. THE OTHER VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT A HIGHER SPEED THAN MINE AT TIME OF IMPACT (2) THE FAILURE WAS THE SIDE AIR BAG DID NOT INFLATE. THE CENTER POST OF THE CAR WAS JAMMED INTO THE DRIVER SEAT AND THEN INTO MY SHOULDER. (3) HONDA DEALER IN IOWA WHERE CAR IS BEING REPAIRED WAS NOT CONCERNED THAT AIR BAG DID NOT INFATE. *NM
DT: AFTER CHANGING THE BATTERY THE SRS LIGHT ILLUMINATED ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF AGO. THE CONSUMER WENT TO A DEALER, AND THE DEALER RESET THE SYSTEM FOR THE SRS AIR BAGS. THIS CORRECTED THE PROBLEM FOR THE TIME BEING. AFTERWARDS, THE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, AND THE DEALER NOTED THIS WAS AN ELECTRONIC INTERFERENCE OR AN ISSUE WITH OCCUPANCY FOR THE SRS. THE CONSUMER PAID FOR THE RESET BOTH ON INCIDENTS. NOW, THE DEALER SAID THE OPDS OCCUPANT POSITION DETECTION SENSOR WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONSUMER HAS NOT REPLACED THIS BECAUSE HE FELT HONDA SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE. NO OTHER REPAIRS OR CORRECTIONS AT THIS TIME. THE DEALER ALSO INDICATED IT WOULD BE SENSELESS TO RESET THE SRS SINCE THE REPAIR HAVE NOT BEEN PERFORMED. *AK
THE SRS INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON AT 74,000 MILES. FROM READING THROUGH THE COMPLAINTS, IT SEEMS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH 2000 HONDA ACCORDS. IT ALSO SEEMS THAT PEOPLE HAVE SPENT A LOT OF MONEY TO "TRY" TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM, BUT WITH LITTLE SUCCESS. NOW I HAVE TO DECIDE BETWEEN SPENDING A LOT OF MONEY, POSSIBLY TO NO AVAIL, OR DRIVING AN UNSAFE CAR WITH NO AIRBAGS. PLEASE INVESTIGATE ASAP AND ISSUE A RECALL, IF NEEDED, BEFORE SOMEONE DIES. *NM
SRS LIGHT KEEPS ON. I HAVE A 2000 HONDA ACCORD V6 AND HAVE IT MAINTAINED BY O'DONNELL HONDA(8620 BALTIMORE NATIONAL PIKE, ELLICOTT CITY, MD 21043). IN SEPT. 2005, THE SRS LIGHT BEGAN TO KEEP COMING ON. ON OCT.18, 2005, I TOOK MY CAR TO THE O'DONNELL HONDA. A REPRESENTATIVE/TECHNICIAN TOLD ME THE AIR BAG HAS NO PROBLEM BUT IT HAS A CODE 15-3 AND NEED TO BE RE-SET. I WAS CHARGED $41.50 FOR RE-SETTING THE SRS LIGHT. THE SRS LIGHT KEPT OFF FOR ABOUT TWO WEEKS, THEN IT CAME BACK AND HAVE KEPT COMING ON SINCE THEN. IF I KEEP TAKING MY CAR TO THE DEALER, IT LOOKS LIKE THEY WILL KEEP CHARGING ME FOR THE RE-RESETTING BECAUSE THEY SAID THE AIR BAG HAS NO PROBLEM. I CHECKED THE INTERNET AND KNEW MANY PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH ACCORD AND CIVIC. I DON'T THINK THE TECHNICIANS IN THE DEALER ARE ABLE TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM. IT IS THE PROBLEM IN HONDA CAR DESIGN AND SPECIFICATION. IF THE SRS LIGHT IS ON AND THE AIR BAG HAS NO PROBLEM, WHEN THE SRS LIGHT IS OFF, THE AIR BAG MAY HAVE PROBLEM?*JB

I HAVE A SRS LIGHT THAT CONTINUES TO COME ON IN MY 2000 HONDA ACCORD EX V6. SRS WARNING LIGHT ON 2000 HONDA ACCORD EX V6 KEEPS ON ACTIVATING. I HAVE SENT MY CAR TO A LOCAL AUTO REPAIR SHOP TO HAVE THE CAR DIAGNOSED ON AUGUST 30, 2005. THE MECHANIC, WHO IS A MASTER DIAGNOSTIC TECHNICIAN AND MANAGER OF THE REPAIR SHOP INFORMED ME HE DID NOT DETECT ANYTHING WRONG, BUT A FALSE ALARM. HE RESET THE SRS SYSTEM. AGAIN, THE SRS WARNING LIGHT CAME BACK ON 2 DAYS LATER AND BROUGHT BACK MY CAR TO HAVE THE SRS WARNING LIGHT RESET ON SEPTEMBER 2, 2005. I CALLED THE SALESPERSON WHO ASSURED ME THAT IT WAS JUST A DASHBOARD DEFECT IN THAT MAKE AND MODEL -- NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. AT LEAST ONCE EACH YEAR SINCE, I'VE HAD TO PAY OVER $100 BECAUSE THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AND THE PROBLEM HAD TO BE RE-DIAGNOSED BEFORE THE LIGHT WAS SHUT OFF. I'VE GROWN SO USED TO HAVING THE LIGHT ON AND IT JUST BEING A DASHBOARD NUISANCE, I'VE COME TO IGNORE IT. THAT WAS UNTIL THIS MORNING, WHEN A HONDA SERVICE PERSON INFORMED ME THAT WHEN IT IS ON -- SIMPLE DEFECT OR NOT -- THE AIRBAGS WILL NOT RELEASE DURING AN ACCIDENT. WHAT IF, BASED ON THE INFORMATION -- OR LACK OF INFORMATION I'VE BEEN GIVEN IN THE LAST FIVE YEARS -- I HAD AN ACCIDENT AND NO AIR BAGS DEPLOYED? HOW MANY OTHER PEOPLE ARE IN THIS SITUATION? A LOT FROM THE LOOKS OF THE COMPLAINTS FILED ON THIS SITE, ALONG WITH COMPLAINTS ON THE SRS ISSUE POSTED ON THE INTERNET OVERALL. THERE ARE TWO LIGHTS RELATED TO AIRBAG IN THE CAR, ONE RED, ONE ORANGE "SIDE AIRBAG OFF". THE ORANGE LIGHT COMES ON AND OFF DEPENDS ON WHETHER THERE IS A LIGHT OBJECT ON THE PASSENGER SEAT OR NOT. OUR HONDA ACCORD 2000 SE WAS IN A HEAD ON COLLISION WITH A PICKUP TRUCK. THE CAR WAS TOTALED, BUT I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE YOU AWARE HOW OUR SON WAS INJURED. OUR SON WAS IN A CENTURY 44164ELM CAR SEAT SITTING BEHIND THE DRIVER (MY WIFE). THE METAL BUCKLE THAT IS USED TO ADJUST THE SEAT BELT SIZE (IN THE BACK) SHEARED FROM THE PLASTIC DUE TO THE FORCE OF THE IMPACT. AS A RESULT THE UPPER PART OF OUR SON'S BODY BECAME A PROJECTILE AND THE SEAT BELT DID NOT KEEP HIM IN THE CAR SEAT. OUR SON'S HEAD LURCHED FORWARD HITTING THE SEAT REST IN FRONT HIM. MY 2000 HONDA ACCORD V-6 HAS APPROXIMATELY 85,000 MILES ON IT AND I HAVE HAD VERY FEW PROBLEMS. ALWAYS TOOK TO DEALER FOR MAINTENANCE/REPAIR. I HAD THE ALTERNATOR REPLACED IN JUNE 2005, AND WITHIN 2 WEEKS OF GETTING THE CAR BACK, THE SRS LIGHT CAME ON. I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY SAID I SHOULD BRING THE CAR IN RIGHT AWAY. I PAID $68 TO HAVE THE SYSTEM "TESTED" AND WAS TOLD I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE COMPUTER SYSTEM FOR THE AIR BAGS AT A COST OF $575, OR I COULD HAVE THEM RESET IT AND IT MAY OR MAY NOT COME BACK ON. I ASKED WHAT HAPPENS WHEN THE LIGHT WAS ON AND WAS TOLD THAT THE AIRBAGS JUST WON'T WORK. I OPTED FOR THE RESET. NOW, 2 WEEKS LATER, THE LIGHT IS BACK ON. I HAVE DONE SOME INTERNET RESEARCH AND HAVE FOUND THAT NOT ONLY IS THIS A KNOWN PROBLEM, BUT THE "CURES" THAT ARE SUGGESTED BY THE DEALER ARE ALL OVER THE MAP. I FIND IT INCREDIBLE THAT HONDA IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS DEFECT IN A MANDATED SAFETY DEVICE. MY FAMILY WILL HOLD HONDA RESPONSIBLE IF I AM INJURED OR KILLED DUE TO A NON-INFLATING AIRBAG. I DO NOT BELIEVE THE COMPANY IS TAKING THE AIRBAG ISSUE SERIOUSLY. MY DAUGHTER WAS THANKFULLY NOT KILLED IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT LAST JUNE IN HER CIVIC, WHOSE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY WHEN SHE WAS HIT WITH SUCH FORCE THAT IT TORE THE FRONT ENGINE HOUSING OFF HER CAR AND RESULTED IN A TOTAL LOSS. THE HONDA FOLKS TOLD US THEN THAT SOMETIMES THE CAR ISN'T "HIT THE RIGHT WAY" AND THE SENSORS DON'T REGISTER THAT THE AIRBAGS SHOULD DEPLOY. DISCOVERED A LEAK WITHIN THE SYSTEM BY DOING A SMOKE TEST. IT WAS IN A CANISTER IN THE EMISSION SYSTEM. THEY REPLACED THE CANISTER AND THE VALVE THAT WAS CONNECTED WITH IT, PARTS 17011S84A00 AND 17310S84L31. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, WHO TOLD THE CONSUMER THAT THEY HAD NO OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE. THE LIGHT HAS BEEN FIXED BY THE DEALER FOR A WHOPPING ~$400! THIS IS ABSOLUTELY OUTRAGEOUS. NO WONDER THE PEOPLE I KNOW THAT HAS THE SRS LIGHT DON'T WANT TO GET IT FIXED.
