MY 2000 HONDA ACCORD HAS THE SAME FAILURE OF THE IGNITION INTERLOCK MECHANISM AS DESCRIBED IN THE RECENT RECALL OF THE 2003 MODEL YEAR ACCORDS. *TR
MY "MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP' ON MY 6 CYLINDER 2000 HONDA ACCORD CAME ON. THE DEALER LET ME KNOW THAT THEIR DIAGNOSTICS POINTED TO A PROBLEM WITH CYLINDER #4. HE HAD ME AUTHORIZE A $1000 "TEAR DOWN THE ENGINE" ESTIMATE IN CASE MY EXTENDED WARRANTY DIDN'T COVER THE REPAIR. AMERICAN HONDA CORP SENT THEIR ADJUSTER TO DETERMINE THAT IT WAS EXCESSIVE CARBON BUILD UP IN THE ENGINE WHICH IS NOT COVERED BY MY EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE DEALER HAD THE PARTS SENT TO A MACHINIST TO DETERMINE IF THERE IS A DAMAGED PART IN THE CYLINDER THAT WOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I HAVE BEEN GIVEN A $2300 APPROXIMATE REPAIR BILL TO PAY ON MY OWN IF NO DAMAGE IS FOUND. NOT THAT LONG AGO, I SPENT $300 AT THE DEALERSHIP CLEANING A CARBON BUILD UP PROBLEM THAT WAS CAUSING MY ACCELERATOR TO STICK. *NM
I PURCHASED A HONDA ACCORD AS A SECOND OWNER APPROXIMATELY TWO YEARS AGO AND AFTER A COUPLE MONTHS OF DRIVING STARTED TO EXPERIENCE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. AFTER SOME INVESTIGATION, I FOUND THIS IS A NORMAL COMPLICATION WITH THE 2000 HONDA ACCORD V6 EX. THERE IS WEBSITE AFTER WEBSITE COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. I WROTE HONDA TO SEE IF THEY HAD MORE INFORMATION ON THE TYPE OF PROBLEMS THAT COULD HAPPEN FROM THIS FAULTY TRANSMISSION AND AFTER REACHING THE HIGHEST LEVEL PERSON I COULD GET, HE TOLD ME HE HAD NO INFORMATION. AFTER ASKING IF THERE WAS ANY THING HONDA COULD DO, REALIZING THAT THEY HAVE MOVED THERE WARRANTY FROM 30,000 MILES TO 110,000 MILES TO COVER THIS PROBLEM, HE AGAIN STATED HE HAD NO INFORMATION. THE HONDA REPRESENTATIVE DID NOT KNOW IF THIS SPECIFIC PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION COULD LEAD TO A HAZARD OR NOT. I DO UNDERSTAND THAT ONCE YOU PURCHASE A VEHICLE THAT CONCERNS ARE NOT TYPICALLY COVERED, BUT THIS IS A WELL DOCUMENTED SAFETY HAZARD. DUE TO HONDA'S FAULTY CONSTRUCTION, MANY TRANSMISSIONS WERE REPLACED OR NEED REPLACED AT THE OWNERS COST. I WAS WONDERING WHY THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL DUE TO THE SAFETY HAZARDS RELATED TO A FAULTY TRANSMISSION (HESITATION WITH PRESSING GAS PEDAL, AND DECREASE OF USE IN 1ST AND 2ND GEAR). BY EXTENDING THE WARRANTY, I BELIEVE HONDA RECOGNIZES THEY HAVE A PROBLEM BUT LEAVE MANY INDIVIDUALS TO FIND THEIR OWN SOLUTIONS. I HAVE OWNED HONDA'S FOR YEARS AND WILL PROBABLY MAKE IT MY LAST. I AM NOW, HOWEVER, STUCK WITH A CAR THAT HAS VERY POSSIBLY SAFETY HAZARDS TO ME AS A DRIVER. EVEN IF THE TRANSMISSION IS REPAIRED, THERE ARE MANY CASES OF FAILURE MULTIPLE TIMES OF DIFFERENT TRANSMISSIONS. AS TO DATE, I HAVE NOT HAD THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED AND THE CAR CONTINUES TO GET HARDER TO DRIVE. THANKS *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS FAILED TO WORK IN THE VEHICLE. THE ONLY LIGHTS THAT ARE WORKING ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ARE THE TURN SIGNALS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. UPON INSPECTING THE VEHICLE IT WAS DETERMINED THE DIMMER CONTROL FOR THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WAS FAULTY. THERE IS AN NHTSA RECALL, # 04V256000, REGARDING THE INTERIOR LIGHTING. THE VIN AND MOTOR SIZE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ACCORDING TO THE MANUFACTURER. *AK

I RECENTLY PURCHASED A SET OF 2000 HONDA ACCORD 1 PIECE PROJECTOR HEADLIGHTS FROM 4CAROPTION.COM. FEW DAYS AFTER I INSTALLED THE HEADLIGHTS I GOT PULLED OVER BY A POLICE OFFICER AND WAS ASKED TO PUT BACK MY ORIGINAL HEADLIGHTS BECAUSE I AM REQUIRED BY LAW TO HAVE AN AMBER REFLECTOR ON MY HEADLIGHTS. 4CAROPTION.COM NEVER ADVISED ME ABOUT THE HEADLIGHTS' DESIGN IS AGAINST THE LAW. I CALLED 4CAROPTION TO ASK FOR A FULL REFUND, BUT THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULD ONLY GIVE ME HALF OF THE PAYMENT BACK SINCE I INSTALLED THE HEADLIGHTS ALREADY. NM
MY WIFE OWNS 2000 HONDA ACCORD SE AND HAVING PROBLEM WITH SRS WARNING LIGHT ON ALL THE TIME. WE HAD THE LIGHT TURNED OFF AND FEW MONTHS LATER IT COMES BACK ON AGAIN. IT WAS REPEATED FOR FEW YEARS NOW AND NO USE. DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY BECAUSE HER CAR'S FRONT AND BACK BUMPERS ARE IN GOOD CONDITION. SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND NOTICED THAT LOT OF OTHER OWNERS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. WAS THERE ANY RECALL ON THIS ?? DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE KEYLESS ENTRY WORKS ONLY ON THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT DOOR. THE DEALERSHIP DETERMINED THE LOCKS IN THE OTHER DOORS NEED TO BE REPLACED.
THE DIMMER CONTROL FOR THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHT FAILED AND CAN NOT SEE THE INSTRUMENTS AT NIGHT. THERE IS ALREADY A REPORT FOR THIS FAILURE (#04V256000), FOR MY SAME MODEL YEAR. HONDA WILL NOT HONOR RECALL BECAUSE MY VIN DOES NOT APPLY. *NM
TWO YEARS AGO MY DASH LIGHTS WOULD JUST SUDDENLY GO OUT AND THEN COME BACK ON, MY SRS LIGHT STAYED ON AS WELL. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY RESET MY SRS LIGHT BUT TOLD ME NOTHING WAS WRONG. LAST YEAR MY DASHLIGHT PROBLEM GOT WORSE AND MY SRS LIGHT CONTINUES TO GO ON AND OFF CONSTANTLY. TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME I NEED A NEW DRIVERS SIDE MULTIPLEX UNIT AND THAT NOTHING IS WRONG WITH MY SRS. I HAVE A 2000 2DR V6 EX. I AM NOT COVERED UNDER THIS RECALL BECAUSE I HAVE A SUNROOF. *TR

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH THE VEHICLE WAS HIT BY ANOTHER VEHICLE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE, THIS CAUSED THE CONTACT TO HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE WITH THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, SEAT BELTS WERE IN USE AND NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE POLICE WERE ON THE SCENE HOWEVER NO REPORT WAS FILED. THE INTERIOR LIGHTS WORK INTERMITTENTLY. THERE ARE SEVERAL INDICATOR LIGHTS THAT DO NOT WORK AT ALL, AND THE LIGHTS THAT DO WORK DIM WITHOUT WARNING. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL # 02V08000, REGARDING THE FONTAL AIR BAGS AND A NHTSA RECALL # 04V256000, REGARDING THE INTERIOR LIGHTING. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL.
THE GAS PEDAL STICKS MORE AND MORE OFTEN SO THAT, WHEN ONE PRESSES ON THE GAS PEDAL, NOTHING HAPPENS. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE YET TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND THERE HAVE BEEN NO CONSEQUENCES THUS FAR. *NM

SRS LIGHT CAME ON 2000 HONDA ACCORD EX. HONDA DEALER DIAGNOSIS WAS SRS CONTROL UNIT AND A DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT BUCKLE. SUPPOSEDLY THE $44 BUCKLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY BUT THE $600 SRS CONTROL UNIT IS NOT. WHY WOULD A FUNCTIONAL BUCKLE WITH INOP SENSOR BE UNDER WARRANTY AND THE SRS CONTROL UNIT (SRS BRAINS) NOT BE? HOW CAN BOTH FAIL AT THE SAME TIME? SOMETHING DOESN'T SOUND RIGHT. *NM
MY 2000 HONDA ACCORD LX BATTERY FINALLY DIED. A NEW BATTERY WAS REPLACED THE SAME DAY AND NOW THE SRS LIGHT STAYS ON AND WON'T GO AWAY. I CONTACTED A LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP AND THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME $90 JUST FOR DIAGNOSTIC AND THE COST OF REPAIR. I SEARCHED ON THE INTERNET AND REALIZED THAT IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH MANY HONDA AND ACURA CAR MODELS AFTER ANY POWER RELATED ISSUE. *JB
CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS ON - MAKING DRIVER THINKING THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG WITH ENGINE. SINCE I HAVE A CHILD I TOOK MY CAR TO MANCHESTER HONDA, FOUND THAT MY GAS CAP WAS NOT ON TIGHT. MANCHESTER HONDA CHARGED ME $163 AND THIS IS THE BIGGEST SCAM HONDA EVER DOES THIS AND HOW MANY PEOPLE DID THEY DO THIS TOO...*NM
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2000 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DOOR HANDLE, WHICH WAS MADE OF METAL AND PLASTIC, FRACTURED AND CAUSED TWO VEHICLE OCCUPANTS TO SUSTAIN CUTS ON THEIR FINGERS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DOOR HANDLE SHOULD HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURER WITH PLASTIC INSTEAD OF METAL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR FURTHER INSPECTION. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. MY 2000 HONDA ACCORD EX HAS RECENTLY HAD THE SRS LIGHT COME ON, WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER CAMBRIDGE HONDA THEY CHARGED ME $98 INFORMED ME THAT THE CAR HAD RECENTLY BEEN IN ACCIDENT (IT HASN'T) AND THAT THE BOX WOULDN'T COMMUNICATE WITH THEIR TEST SET SO TO FIX IT WOULD REQUIRE REPLACING THE ENTIRE SYSTEM ($1000 +). *NM

THE SRS UNIT FOR AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT HAS FAILED ON MY 2000 HONDA ACCORD LX WITH 104,000 MILES. THE HONDA DEALERS WANT ~$740.00 TO REPLACE THIS UNIT AS THERE IS NO EXTENDED WARRANTY OR COVERAGE BEYOND THE MANUFACTURERS 36/36 FACTORY WARRANTY. CONSIDERING THE ESSENTIAL NECESSITY OF THIS UNIT IT SEEMS UNREASONABLE FOR THIS UNIT SHOULD FAIL WITHIN 104,000 MILES AND IN LESS THAN 6 YEARS. I HAD TODAY 3 DIFFERENT HONDA DEALERSHIPS TELL ME TODAY THAT IT CAN BE EXPECTED THAT THESE UNITS WILL BEGIN FAILING AT 100,000 MILES! HOW CAN THIS BE THE CASE? ISN'T IT REASONABLE TO EXPECT THE SAFETY OF THE AIRBAGS BEING DEPLOYED IN A CAR THAT IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION MECHANICALLY AND STRUCTURALLY TO CONTINUE FOR A MUCH LONGER PERIOD? ISN'T IT ALSO TO BE EXPECTED THAT EARLY FAILURE OF THIS UNIT SHOULD BE COVERED EITHER FULLY OR PARTIALLY BY HONDA? IT IS REASONABLE TO THINK SO. I ALSO OWN A 1992 AND A 1994 HONDA ACCORD WITH THE SAME SRS UNIT WITH NO FAILURES HAVING OCCURRED. I WOULD LIKE THE NHTSA TO INVESTIGATE THIS MATTER AS TO PREMATURE FAILURE OCCURRING. *NM
SINCE YEAR 2000 I HAVE BEEN BRINGING MY HONDA ACCORD TO HONDA SERVICE CENTER FOR MAINTENANCE AND REPAIRS. THE SRS LIGHT HAD BEEN GOING OFF AND WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO HONDA OF CONCORD, THEY JUST RESET THE SRS LIGHT AND BLAMED MY CELL PHONE AS THE POSSIBLE REASON. SINCE THEN I AVOIDED PLACING MY CELL PHONE ON THE PASSENGER SEAT BUT THE SRS LIGHT WOULD STILL TURN ON AFTER COUPLE OF WEEKS. I HAVE INQUIRED FROM THEM IF IT WAS A DEFECT AND THEY SAID "NO". THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON UNTIL IN 2004 WHEN I TOOK MY CAR TO HONDA OF OAKLAND WHEN THEY DECIDED THAT IT WAS THE OPDS THAT WAS FAULTY AND THEY CHANGED IT (CHARGED ME $700.00). AFTER A WEEK THAT IT WAS CHANGED, THE SRS LIGHT TURNED ON AGAIN, AND EVERY MAINTENANCE SERVICE TIME THEY JUST RESET THE LIGHT. 2 WEEKS AGO, HONDA OF OAKLAND TOLD ME THAT THEY WILL REPLACE THE OPDS SENSOR AND WILL REFUND ME OF THE $700 THAT I PAID LAST YEAR. AM SUPPOSED TO BRING MY CAR ON TUESDAY MARCH 28, 2006 TO HONDA OF OAKLAND SERVICE CENTER SO THEY CAN CHANGE THE OPDS. THEY NOW CLAIM THAT IT IS COVERED BY 5 YEAR WARRANTY (LAST YEAR THEY SAID IT WASN'T COVERED). I HAVEN'T MISSED ANY MAINTENANCE SERVICE FOR MORE THAN 5 YEARS NOW AND ON EVERY VISIT I HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS SRS LIGHT MALFUNCTION. WHAT'S THE BEST THING I SHOULD DO? *JB
MY SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) WARNING LIGHT WENT ON. THIS IS SERIOUS BECAUSE WHEN THE LIGHT IS ON, HONDA TOLD ME, THAT THE AIRBAGS ARE DISENGAGED. I TOOK THE 2006 HONDA ACCORD SEDAN V6 TO THE DEALER. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN OUT ON THIS PROBLEM, 02-077 DATED DEC 17, 2002. I WAS TOLD IT WOULD TAKE $1600 TO FIX. I READ THE SERVICE BULLETIN. IT STATES THAT THIS PROBLEM IS DUE TO STATIC ELECTRICITY PROBLEM IN THE SYSTEM. AS AN ELECTRICAL ENGINEER THIS MEANS THERE IS A DESIGN PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE. EVEN THOUGH THIS IS A DESIGN PROBLEM AND THE BULLETIN CAME OUT WHILE MY CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, HONDA, EAST COAST HEADQUARTERS, HAS ONLY OFFERED TO COVER PARTS. I BELIEVE THAT THIS NOT JUST MY PROBLEM AND THAT HONDA NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL DUE TO THE SAFETY ISSUES RELATED TO A SRS LIGHT. AGAIN, WHEN THE SRS LIGHT IS ON, AIRBAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY. *JB
THE SRS LIGHT WILL NOT GO OFF AFTER STARTING THE CAR. IT WAS TESTED BY A HONDA DEALER AND I WAS TOLD THAT THEY RESET THE LIGHT BUT IF IT CAME ON AGAIN, I WOULD HAVE TO PURCHASE A NEW SRS UNIT AT A VERY HIGH COST. THREE HOURS AFTER LEAVING THE DEALER, THE LIGHT CAME BACK ON AND WILL NOT GO OFF. SINCE THIS IS A SAFETY FEATURE LIKE THE SEAT BELTS, THE DEALER/MANUFACTURER SHOULD REPLACE THIS AT NO COST TO ME. *JB
2000 ACCORD, THE RUBBER ON THE LEFT FRONT TIRE CAME OFF AND BROKE THE HOOD RELEASE WIRE CAUSING THE HOOD TO OPEN AND SMASH THE WINDSHIELD. *TS THE VEHICLE WAS DECLARED TOTALED BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. *NM
SRS LIGHT IS ON, DEALERSHIP STATES 450.00 TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. I FEEL THIS SHOULD BE A HONDA ISSUE, SOME TYPE OF DEFECT, THEY HAVE NEVER DEPLOYED ...HOW CAN THIS "WEAR OUT" AS I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP. *NM
MY 2000 HONDA ACCORD SE 'S DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW'S MOTOR STOPPED WORKING. THE HONDA DEALERSHIP IS WANTING TO CHARGE $300 TO REPAIR IT. IS THERE A RECALL REGARDING SUCH. THIS COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS. NOT BEING ABLE TO ROLL THE WINDOW DOWN. *NM

SEARCHED NHTSA DOT WEBSITE, FOUND, HONDA RECENTLY ISSUED RECALL ON DEFECTED AIRBAG SENSOR. I THOUGHT MY CAR IS THE SAME PROBLEM. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, DIAGNOSESD AS AIRBAG CONTROL UNIT NEED REPLACEMENT WHICH WILL COST OVER $900. DECLINE THE FIX. BUT HAVE TO PAY $90 FOR CHECKING IT OUT. THIS LIGHT WILL REMIND ME HOW BAD HONDA TREAT IT'S DEFECT ON SAFETY FEATURE. AND HOW IRONIC IT CLAIM IN THE RECENT AD THAT IT CARES ABOUT SAFETY NOT ONLY INSIDE THE CAR BUT ALSO OUTSIDE THE CAR. *JB

I HAVE A 2000 ACCORD, THE SRS LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYS ON. I HAVE READ THAT THIS CONDITION WILL MAKE MY AIR BAGS USELESS UNTIL REPAIRED. I WILL TAKE MY HONDA IN FOR THE REPAIR AND HOPE THAT I WILL NOT BE CHARGED FOR THIS SINCE IT HAS BEEN A HONDA PROBLEM FOR SEVERAL YEARS ACCORDING TO HONDA OWNERS WEB SITES. *NM
I HAVE A 2000 HONDA ACCORD EX, MY SRS LIGHT HAS BEEN ON FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. I CANNOT AFFORD TO HAVE THE REPAIR. THEN RECENTLY, I RECEIVED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FROM HONDA SAYING THE SRS HAS HAD PROBLEMS AND IF YOU HAD OR HAVE A PROBLEM WITH IT, THEY WILL REPAIR IT FREE OF CHARGE. HOWEVER, IT IS A 10 YR OR 150,000 MI. LIMIT. WELL, I COMMUTE TO WORK AND I HAVE OVER 197,000 MILES ON MY CAR. I STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AS EVERYONE ELSE, I JUST HAVE TO USE MY CAR MORE. I FEEL IF THEY KNOW THE PROBLEM IS DEFECTIVE PARTS AND A SAFETY ISSUE, THERE SHOULD BE NO QUESTION THAT EVERYONE IS COVERED. *NM

THE SRS LIGHT TURNED ON BY ITSELF AND REMAINS ON. I HAVE 80K MILES ON THE CAR. I RESEARCHED MANY SITES AND NOTICED THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AND MOST OF THEM HAVE NOT GOT A SATISFACTORY FIX. I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND THEY MENTIONED $99 JUST TO DIAGNOSE. I THEN SENT A FAX TO AMERICAN HONDA REQUESTING THEM DETAILS OF PREVIOUS OCCURRENCE AND NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS. THEY DECLINED TO PROVIDE ME THE NUMBER OF OFFICIAL COMPLAINTS THEY HAVE RECEIVED AND SAID THEY WILL NOT HELP ME AND I WOULD HAVE TO DEAL IT WITH THE DEALERS. THEY ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE COMPLAINTS IN THE INTERNET MAY BE BOGUS. *NM
AIR BAG CEL IS ON THUS DISABLE THE AIR BAG FUNCTION IN THE CAR. CHECK SYSTEM RESULTS IN NO APPARENT PROBLEM. RESET WOULD CLEAR THE PROBLEM FROM 1 DAY TO 1 MONTH, THEN THE CEL IS RE-APPEARED AGAIN. ACCORDING TO THE MECHANIC, THE PROBLEM IS A FAULTY AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE FROM THE MANUFACTURE AND AFFECT MANY SIMILAR CARS WITHIN THIS MODEL YEAR. PEOPLE ON THE INTERNET FORUM ARE EXPERIENCED THE SAME THING WITH THIS SRS WARNING LIGHT. MY 2000 HONDA ACCORD EX V6 BATTERY FINALLY DIED ON 01/30/2006. A NEW BATTERY WAS REPLACED THE SAME DAY AND NOW THE SRS LIGHT STAYS ON AND WON'T GO AWAY. I CONTACTED A LOCAL HONDA DEALERSHIP AND THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME $90 JUST FOR DIAGNOSTIC AND THE COST OF REPAIR. I SEARCHED ON THE INTERNET AND REALIZED THAT IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH MANY HONDA AND ACURA CAR MODELS AFTER ANY POWER RELATED ISSUE. AS PROCLAIMED RELIABLE CAR COMPANY, I WANTED TO KNOW WHY HONDA WON'T ADMIT THEY HAVE A PROBLEM AND VOLUNTARILY HAVE DEALERSHIP FIX IT FREE OF CHARGE FOR THE CUSTOMERS. I HAVE A 2000 HONDA ACCORD SE. IT WAS SINGLE HANDEDLY DRIVEN SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS BOUGHT BRAND NEW IN MARCH 2000. I HAVE BEEN MAINTAINING IT PER THE SPECIFICATIONS STIPULATED IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL, AND GETTING IT SERVICED FROM HONDA SERVICE CENTERS ONLY. I HAVE BEEN A VICTIM OF UN-PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE FROM HONDA'S DEALERSHIPS AND AMERICAN HONDA. A FEW MONTHS AGO THE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT CAME ON. SINCE IT WAS TIME TO GET MY MAJOR SERVICE DONE I TOOK IT TO LARRY HOPKINS HONDA AND SPECIFICALLY ASKED TO CHECK THE ENGINE LIGHT. THEY DIDN'T CHECK ANYTHING AND SAID THAT EVERYTHING SEEMED FINE. SINCE THE LIGHT WAS STILL ON I HAD TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK ANOTHER TIME TO GET IT CHECKED BY PAYING A DIAGNOSTIC FEE OF A $150 WHICH I COULD HAVE SAVED HAD THEY CHECKED IT THE FIRST TIME. THEY DIAGNOSED IT AS A STUCK THERMOSTAT, CODE P1486, AND REPLACED IT, CHARGING ME $241 MOSTLY LABOR CHARGE. AFTER A WEEK THE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN, AND WHEN I CALLED LARRY HOPKINS I WAS INFORMED THAT ECU NEEDED REPLACEMENT, COSTING $960, AND THAT THEY COULD NOT ASSURE ME THAT IT WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM, EVEN AFTER SPENDING MORE THAN $1250. RECENTLY, I CONTACTED AMERICAN HONDA AND THEY ADVISED ME TO GET ANOTHER DIAGNOSTICS DONE AT ONE OF THEIR DEALERSHIPS BEFORE THEY COULD HELP ME. I GOT THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED, AND AFTER PAYING $129 THE SAME CODE P1486 WAS FOUND AND WAS INFORMED THAT ECU WAS INDEED A WEAR AND TEAR PART. HOWEVER. I DISAGREED, AND HAVE CHECKED WITH VARIOUS TECHNICIANS WHO DISAGREED THAT ECU WAS A WEAR AND TEAR ITEM, AND HAVE NEVER HEARD OF AN ECUS GOING BAD AFTER A FEW YEARS OF USAGE. *AK
DRIVING HOME AT NIGHT IN HEAVY RAIN WITH FAMILY WHEN THE SRS LIGHT CAME ON FOLLOWED LESS THAN A MINUTE LATER BY THE ABS LIGHT. LESS THAN 1 MINUTE LATER CAR DIED ON THE ROAD. BATTERY WAS SO DEAD THAT STARTER WOULD NOT EVEN TURNOVER. HAD TO BE TOWED HOME. IT WAS DETERMINED THE NEXT DAY THAT THE DELPHI ALTERNATOR WAS PUTTING OUT NO VOLTAGE. IT HAD BLOWN OPEN 4 OF ITS 6 DIODES IN THE RECTIFIER ASSEMBLY. BEHIND THE BACK COVER OF THE ALTERNATOR WHEN OPENED UP. CAR NEEDED A NEW ALTERNATOR AT 68,000 MILES. I WAS TOLD BY MANY THAT THIS WAS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE '1998 TO '2002 ACCORD V6 MODELS WHICH USED THIS DELPHI BUILT ALTERNATOR. COMPLETE ALTERNATOR FAILURE CAUSED THE SRS AND ABS LIGHTS TO COME ON DUE TO A LOW VOLTAGE CONDITION IN THE CAR'S ELECTRICAL SYSTEM POSSIBLY RENDERING BOTH OF THESE IMPORTANT SAFETY SYSTEMS USELESS WITH THE WARNING LIGHTS ON. THE BATTERY LIGHT NEVER CAME ON. I REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR WITH A BOSCH UNIT AS I DID NOT WANT THE PROBLEM TO OCCUR AGAIN. I CALLED HONDA IN CA TO INFORM THEM OF THIS PROBLEM ON 1/18/06. I STILL HAVE THE DEFECTIVE OEM ALTERNATOR.*AK

EVEN AFTER 2-3 MONTHS IT CAME BACK ON. NOW WHEN I TAKE IT BACK, HE SAYS THERE IS SOME OTHER PROBLEM. ON INTERNET I SEE A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS, MY HONDA ACCORD EXPERIENCED ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ON THE DASHBOARD. THE LIGHT WOULD FLICKER OFF AND ON WHILE DRIVING DURING THE NIGHT. EVENTUALLY THAT FLICKERING STOPPED AND THE WHOLE INTERIOR LIGHT IN THE DASHBOARD FAILED TO ILLUMINATE. I TOOK IT IN TO A CERTIFIED ASE AUTO MECHANIC AND HE SAID THERE WAS A SAFETY RECALL ON THIS PARTICULAR ISSUE AND TO CHECK MY MAIL AND FILES FOR ANY LETTERS. I FOUND A LETTER IN MY FILES DATING BACK TO JULY 2004 STATING A SAFETY RECALL ON 2000-2001 ACCORD LX V6 MODELS FOR THE MULTIPLEX CONTROL UNIT IN THE DASHBOARD HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO HEAT BUILDUP AND CAN CAUSE ACCIDENTS BECAUSE THE INSIDE DASHBOARD LIGHTS WILL NOT ILLUMINATE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE FAIRFAX HONDA DEALER IN VIRGINIA AND THEY COULD NOT HONOR MY RECALL BECAUSE MY VIN# DID NOT CALL FOR IT. I CONTACTED HONDA CONSUMER AFFAIRS ABOUT MY PROBLEM AND THEY TOLD ME MY CAR WAS LISTED AS A HONDA ACCORD LX 4-CYLINDER. I SPOKE TO A REP. NAMED ANDREA. AFTER CHECKING MY FILES MORE THOROUGHLY, THEY CONFIRMED MY CAR WAS A HONDA ACCORD EX V6. THE RECALL WAS FOR A LX V6, NOT A EX V6. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THAT THE EX HAS A DIFFERENT TRIM THEN THE LX, BUT THE PROBLEM WAS THE SAME, DUE TO HEAT BUILD UP THE INSTRUMENT PANEL MAY NOT DISPLAY LIGHTS. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS FOR A DRIVER AND THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AND RESOLVED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS INJURED.
