MY 2003 V6 HONDA ACCORD HAS 143,000 MILES AND NEEDS A SECOND TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT. I HAVE KEPT CURRENT WITH ALL THE REQUIRED MAINTENANCE, AND ALL THE MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR WORK HAS BEEN DONE AT THE SAME HONDA DEALERSHIP FROM WHICH I PURCHASED THE CAR NEW IN 2003. THE FIRST TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT WAS AT 102,000 MILES - JUST PAST THE 100,000 MILE EXTENDED WARRANTY I PURCHASED. THE DEALERSHIP CUT ME A BREAK ON THE COST AND IT ENDED UP BEING ABOUT HALF OF THE FULL COST BUT THAT WAS STILL $2000 OUT OF MY POCKET. TWO YEARS LATER, IT IS CURRENTLY IN THE SHOP NEEDING ANOTHER TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT. HONDA AND THE DEALERSHIP ARE WILLING TO PAY FOR 75% OF THE COST BUT THAT IS STILL ANOTHER $1000 OUT OF MY POCKET FOR SOMETHING THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE NEEDED TO BE DONE. IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN QUICKLY TOO. THREE WEEKS AGO I WAS IN FOR MORE THAN $2000 OF VEHICLE MAINTENANCE (TIMING BELT REPLACEMENT. AXLE BEARING, AS WELL AS FLUIDS, ETC) - NO INDICATION FROM THE DEALERSHIP THAT THERE WAS A POTENTIAL PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION. A WEEK LATER I TOOK IT BACK SINCE THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM WAS COMING ON ALL THE TIME - SOMETIMES WHILE IN PARK, SOMETIMES ON THE FREEWAY, SOMETIMES ON SIDE ROADS - NO RHYME OR REASON JUST COMING ON ALL THE TIME. THEY COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS CAUSING THAT BUT FOUND WHAT THEY THOUGHT WAS A SMALL LEAK IN THE WHEEL BEARINGS. I MADE A MENTAL NOTE TO HAVE IT FIXED NEXT TIME I BRING IT IN. TWO WEEKS LATER IT STARTS TO MAKE A FUNNY SOUND - I THINK THE WHEEL BEARING HAS GOTTEN WORSE AND TAKE IT IN IMMEDIATELY. AFTER THEY LOOK CLOSER AT IT, THEY DETERMINED THE TRANSMISSION WAS SHOT AGAIN AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. LUCKILY I HAVE CAUGHT THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS BEFORE THEY HAVE CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO FAIL BUT IT IS DANGEROUS NEVER KNOWING WHEN IT WILL FAIL. SEVERAL OF MY HUSBANDS COWORKERS WITH SIMILAR YEAR HONDA ACCORDS HAVE ALSO HAD NUMEROUS TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS WHICH IS WHAT IS PROMPTING ME TO REPORT IT HERE. *TR
SRS LIGHT TURNS ON AND OFF ON THE DASH. I TOOK MY 2003 HONDA ACCORD EX- V6 TO THE DEALER AND THE DIAGNOSTICS CODES WERE 53-31, 61-10, F1-11, F3-11. AFTER THE DEALER CALLING HONDA, HONDA RECOMMENDED TO REPLACE THE CONTROL UNIT. HOWEVER, REVIEWS INDICATE THAT THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT MAY COME ON DUE TO A DEFECTIVE OCCUPANT POSITION DETECTION SENSOR REQUIRING ITS REPLACEMENT. HONDA DECIDED TO RECALL THE 2004 MODELS FOR THE SAME AIRBAG ISSUE, BUT LEFT OUT THE 2003 MODELS.
2003 HONDA ACCORD V6 EX TOTAL TRANSMISSION FAILURE. *TR
PURCHASED 2003 HONDA ACCORD USED FROM TOYOTA DEALERSHIP OCTOBER 2005. NOTICED STRANGE SOUND COMING FROM VEHICLE AND GEARS WOULD SHIFT STRANGELY WITHIN A YEAR LATER. TOOK HONDA ACCORDING TO DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICING AND QUESTIONED SOUND SEVERAL TIMES, HONDA INSIST IT WAS OTHER ITEMS THAT WAS WRONG WITH VEHICLE BUT NEVER REFERENCED TRANSMISSION. GEARS ON CAR STARTED SLIPPING AND THE SHIFT CHANGING GOT WORSE AS IF IT DID NOT WANT TO SHIFT INTO 2ND GEAR. AS I WAS DRIVING ON INTERSTATE, CAR STOP PULLING AND WHEN I WOULD PUSH THE GAS, THE ENGINE WOULD REV UP AND THE RPM WOULD BASICALLY GO OFF THE METER (HIGH). CAR WOULD NOT PULL IN DRIVE OR REVERSE, AS IF IT WAS IN NEUTRAL. WHEN CHECKING TRANSMISSION FLUID, IT WAS GREATLY DISCOLORED (BLACK). I TURNED CAR OFF AND RESTARTED CAR AND WAS ABLE TO GET CAR TO PULL BEFORE JERKING STRONGLY THEN GOING BACK IN THE REV ENGINE/NOT PULLING STATE. BECAUSE THE FAILURE DID NOT OCCUR NEAR DEALERSHIP AND DEALERSHIP MECHANICS WAS CLOSED, I HAD TO HAVE CAR TOWED TO A TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST WHO INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS CHIPPING IN THE TRANSMISSION (THE DARK DISCOLORATION) AND OVERHEATING WHICH IN TURN CAUSED MAJOR DAMAGE TO THE TRANSMISSION. TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REBUILT, AND THE TORQUE, PUMP AND OTHER TRANSMISSION PARTS HAD TO BE REPLACED. TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST DID STATE THAT THE RECALL WAS EITHER NOT DONE, PARTS WERE FAULTY, OR SERVICE WASN'T SUFFICIENT AND DID CAUSE THE LONG TERM TRANSMISSION FAILURE *TR
TOTAL FAILURE OF TRANSMISSION AT HIGHWAY SPEED LEFT VEHICLE STRANDED ON BUSY BRIDGE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RADIO DISPLAY INTERMITTENTLY BECOMES BLANK AND FAILS TO OPERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT HER VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. SHE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING $1000 TO HAVE THE RADIO REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,000.
THE TRANSMISSION ON MY 2003 HONDA ACCORD EX V6 CATASTROPHICALLY FAILED WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. IT WAS DANGEROUS, BECAUSE THE CAR SUDDENLY WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AT ALL, AND I HAD TO SUDDENLY CUT ACROSS SEVERAL LANES OF TRAFFIC TO REACH THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED. *TR
I OWN A 2003 HONDA ACCORD. THERE WAS NOT ANY NOTICEABLE INDICATIONS OF TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS, THE CAR RAN GREAT, NO INDICATOR LIGHTS CAME ON FOR WARNING. THE CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN BY MYSELF AND ALL MAINTENANCE DONE AS SCHEDULED OR BEFORE. I WAS DRIVING IT HOME FROM WORK ON A BUSY 4 LANE IN 5 O'CLOCK TRAFFIC. I WAS FOLLOWING THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC AT ABOUT 50MPH, WHEN IT SIMPLY CAME OUT OF GEAR. WHEN I PUSHED THE ACCELERATOR THE RPM'S WENT UP BUT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT KICK IN. IT FINALLY CAUGHT UP AND I WAS ABLE TO EXIT THE TRAFFIC INTO A PARKING LOT WITHOUT AN ACCIDENT. WHEN MY HUSBAND GOT THERE, IT WOULD NOT GO INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE. I HAD DROVE IT APPROXIMATELY 4 MILES WHEN THIS HAPPENED. LONG STORY SHORT, CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP, THEY SAID THE TRANSMISSION WAS GONE. WE CALLED AMERICAN HONDA, SINCE THE CAR HAD A RECALL IN 2004 FOR THIS PROBLEM, BUT AFTER WAITING A WEEK FOR THE DEALERSHIP AND AMERICAN HONDA TO "GET TOGETHER" WE DID NOT GET ANY RESPONSE FROM THEM. WE LEFT MESSAGES FOR "RONN" OUR CASE MANAGER AND THE CALLS WAS NOT RETURNED. WE HAD TO TAKE IT TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP TO BE REBUILT, BUT IT STILL DOES NOT RUN RIGHT. *TR
HONDA ACCORD EX V6 PULLING TO THE RIGHT. I HAD MY CAR ALIGNED 6 TIMES IN TIRE KINGDOM. WHEN I CALLED REGAL HONDA LAKELAND FLORIDA ABOUT THE PROBLEM. THEY SAID THEY NEED TO DO AN ALIGNMENT AGAIN. I TOLD THEM I HAVE DONE IT 6 TIMES. AND THE CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR
2003 HONDA ACCORD EX, V6 WITH 5-SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION: CAR HAD BEEN REGULARLY MAINTAINED ACCORDING TO MANUFACTURERS RECOMMENDATIONS. PROBLEM STARTED AS TRANSMISSION SLIPPING WHEN GOING UP HILLS. IT WOULD NOT GO INTO GEAR RIGHT AWAY AND WOULD REV UNTIL I LET OFF THE GAS AND REPEATED A FEW TIMES. THE REAL PROBLEM BEGAN SHORTLY THEREAFTER; AFTER DRIVING FOR APPROXIMATELY 20 MINUTES, REGARDLESS OF SPEED, THE TRANSMISSION WOULD SUDDENLY AND VIOLENTLY DOWNSHIFT SEEMINGLY FROM THIRD TO FIRST GEAR. ONCE IT HAPPENED, IT WOULD CONTINUE EVERY FEW MINUTES UNTIL I STOPPED AND TURNED OFF THE CAR. THE SECOND TIME THIS OCCURRED WAS WHILE MERGING ONTO A BUSY HIGHWAY. IMMEDIATELY AFTER, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE INSPECTED. THEY INITIALLY TOLD ME THERE WAS NO PROBLEM -- THEY ROAD-TESTED IT AND COULD NOT DUPLICATE IT. I INSISTED THEY DRIVE IT FOR 20 MINUTES AND UPON DOING SO, THEY TOLD ME IT WAS A TRANSMISSION FAILURE AND I WOULD NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION. AFTER GETTING A SECOND OPINION (SINCE THE CAR ONLY HAD 55K MILES) FROM A HONDA-CERTIFIED MECHANIC, HE CONFIRMED THAT THE CLUTCHES WERE BURNT AND THE BEARINGS WORN OUT AND SAID IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM IN THE 2003 ACCORD 5-SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. HAD THE MECHANIC REBUILD THE TRANSMISSION. *TR
HONDA ACCORD EX V6, 4-DOOR SEDAN. GEAR FAILURE RELATED TO TRANSMISSION. GEAR FAILURE OCCURRED AT APPROXIMATELY 94,000 MILES. I WAS DRIVING THE CAR AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MILES PER HOUR. WITHOUT WARNING, THE CAR BEGAN TO SHIFT GEARS ON ITS OWN, WITHOUT MY TOUCHING THE GEAR PANEL OR ATTEMPTING TO SHIFT GEARS. THE CAR JERKED SEVERAL TIMES, STILL AT HIGH SPEED. THE "D" GEAR PANEL BEGAN TO FLASH, THE ENGINE LIGHT AND TRACTION CONTROL INDICATORS APPEARED ON THE INDICATOR PANEL. I DROVE THE CAR AT VERY SLOW SPEED TO THE NEAREST HONDA DEALER, STILL EXPERIENCING SUDDEN GEAR SHIFTS. I WAS ADVISED THAT THE TRANSMISSION MUST BE REPLACED AND THAT THE GEAR MECHANISM WITHIN THE TRANSMISSION HAS FAILED. MY ACCORD WAS SUBJECT TO A RECALL CAMPAIGN IN 2004. THE HONDA DEALER INSTALLED AN "OIL JET KIT" TO FIX THE PROBLEM, WHICH APPARENTLY PERSISTS. ACCORDING TO CARCOMPLAINTS.COM, 2003 HONDA ACCORD EX V6 TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN REPORTED TO THAT WEBSITE 346 TIMES, AND OTHER DRIVERS HAVE REPORTED SUDDEN GEAR SHIFTS WHILE DRIVING AT HIGH SPEEDS. CLEARLY, FATAL AND OTHER SERIOUS CRASHES CAN EASILY OCCUR AS A RESULT OF THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. *TR

MY TRANSMISSION FAILED AFTER I ATTEMPTED TO PUT MY CAR IN PARK. I FILED A COMPLAINT LAST YEAR WITH BBB AND WAS REJECTED. NOW I AM NOTIFIED BY HONDA ABOUT A RECALL THAT HAS A DIRECT RELATIONSHIP TO MY FAILED TRANSMISSION A SAFETY RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED REGARDING THIS EXACT POSSIBILITY THAT HAPPENED TO ME. *TR
MY CAR BEGIN HESITATING GOING FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR ON THURSDAY (11/19). I TOOK IT TO THE REPAIR SHOP FRIDAY MORNING AND HAD THE OXYGEN SENSOR REPLACED. IT CONTINUED TO DO TO SAME THING FRIDAY NIGHT, SO I TOOK IT BACK SATURDAY AFTERNOON. FRIDAY NIGHT AND SATURDAY MORNING IT GOT PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. IT BEGIN TO BUCK WHEN SHIFTING GEARS AND AT TIMES I WOULD REV THE ENGINE AND IT WOULD TAKE SEVERAL SECONDS TO JUMP INTO GEAR AND GET PAST 20 MPH. THE AUTO SHOP TOLD ME MY 2003 HONDA ACCORD (120K) NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION. AS I LEFT TO GET OTHER QUOTES, I WAS IN THE MIDDLE LANE ON A BUSY STREET AND AS I TRIED TO ACCELERATE MY CAR WOULD NOT GO INTO GEAR (IT WAS AS IF I WAS IN NEUTRAL). I QUICKLY TURNED ON MY HAZARDS AND PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL FOR ABOUT 30 SECS. IT FINALLY JUMPED INTO GEAR AND I IMMEDIATELY PULLED IN 7-ELEVEN AND CALLED A TOW TRUCK. IT TOOK FROM THURSDAY TO SATURDAY FOR MY CAR TO BECOME A SAFETY HAZARD TO ME AND OTHERS ON THE ROAD AND AFTER READING ABOUT SEVERAL OTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON OTHER WEBSITES, I AM HORRIFIED THIS ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN RECTIFIED EARLIER. *TR
I OWN A 2003 HONDA ACCORD. OUT OF THE BLUE ABOUT 1 1/2 YEARS AGO, I COULD NOT PLACE THE CAR INTO DRIVE AFTER BEING IN REVERSE IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY STREET. I STOOD THERE WITH CARDS SCREECHING ALL AROUND ME UNTIL FINALLY IT WENT INTO DRIVE AND I WAS ABOVE TO DRIVE AWAY. THE VERY NEXT DAY THERE WAS A LOUD CRASHING SOUND UNDER MY CAR AND IT BECAME UNDRIVEABLE BUCKING AND STOPPING AS I DROVE. I WENT TO REPAIR SHOP AND PAID $3000 FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION. *TR
VEHICLE WILL NOT UPSHIFT AFTER DOWNSHIFTING TO PASSING GEAR. THE RESULTS ARE SOMETIMES SLOWING DOWN BELOW HIGHWAY SPEEDS (55-65 MPH) TO AWAIT TRANSMISSION TO SHIFT UP, IMPEDING TRAFFIC. THIS IS INTERMITTENT. AFTER STARTING VEHICLE IT MAY SURGE TO 15 -25 MPH WHEN ENGAGING TRANSMISSION IN DRIVE. ALSO, AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS 55-65 MPH VEHICLE HAS A SEVERE VIBRATION IN THE FRONT END. THE TRANSMISSION WILL SOMETIMES DOWNSHIFT WHILE DRIVING UNDER NORMAL CONDITION AND IMMEDIATELY SHIFT UP AGAIN WITH SLIGHT JERKING MOTION. THESE ISSUES WERE PREVIOUSLY DIAGNOSED TO BE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS (96,371 MILES). AT THAT TIME (08/03/2007) HONDA REPLACED TRANSMISSION AT MY COST. (ACTUALLY MY INSURANCE EXTENDED WARRANTY). THIS IS HAPPENING AGAIN IN SAME VEHICLE (165,430) AND HONDA DECLINES (PHONCON AMERICAN HONDA 03/16/2010)TO SAY IT IS A TRANSMISSION ISSUE AND REFUSES TO MAKE NEEDED REPAIRS. DEALERSHIP SAID TO REPLACE TIRES AND DO BALANCE AND ALIGNMENT AND IT WOULD RESOLVE PROBLEM. THE ONLY THING IT DID WAS INCREASE VIBRATION AND MAKE MY WALLET $550 LIGHTER. RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET INDICATES TRANSMISSION ISSUES ARE A SAFETY CONCERN FOR SEVERAL OWNERS OF 2003 HONDA ACCORDS. I FOUND OVER 350 DIFFERENT TRANSMISSION ISSUES FOR 2003 HONDA ACCORDS ALONE. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND NHTSB LOOK INTO THIS MATTER. THE MILEAGE I AM REPORTING IS MILES ON 2ND TRANSMISSION. *TR
2003 HONDA ACCORD. CONSUMER WRITES TO REPORT A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD WITH POWER WINDOWS *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE FRONT DRIVERS WINDOW REGULATOR MOTOR ASSEMBLY WAS REPLACED, BECAUSE IT WAS SLOW TO OPEN AND THEN BECAME STUCK IN THE DOWN POSITION. FOUR MONTHS LATER, THE FRONT PASSENGER WINDOW WOULD NOT OPEN WHEN THE CONSUMER TRIED PRESSING THE SWITCH FROM BOTH THE MASTER CONTROL PANEL AND THE PASSENGER ARM REST. IN ADDITION, NONE OF THE WINDOWS OPENED FROM THE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE WHEN SHE PRESSED THE UNLOCK BUTTON ON THE REMOTE TRANSMITTER AND HELD THE BUTTON DOWN. THE DOORS UNLOCKED, BUT THE WINDOWS DID NOT GO DOWN. THE FRONT PASSENGER REGULATOR MOTOR FAILED AND IN ADDITION TO A FUSE BLOWING, THE WIRING IN THE PASSENGER DOOR PANEL BURNED AND THE VEHICLE'S FUSE BOX ASSEMBLY WAS DAMAGED. WHEN THE CONSUMER PICKED THE VEHICLE UP, SHE WAS TOLD THE PROBLEM MAY HAVE ORIGINATED WITH A CRACK IN THE MASTER CONTROL SWITCH ON THE DRIVER'S PANEL. TWO DAYS LATER, AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE MADE, WHEN THE CONSUMER TRIED PRESSING THE SWITCH TO CLOSE THE WINDOW, THE WINDOW ROSE LESS THAN AN INCH AND IMMEDIATELY WENT DOWN AGAIN. ALSO, WHEN SHE WANTED TO OPEN THE WINDOW FULLY, SHE HAD TO HOLD THE CONTROL SWITCH IN THE DOWN POSITION LONGER THAN NORMALLY REQUIRED TO AUTOMATE THE ACTION. THE CONSUMER RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE RUN CHANNELS ON BOTH WINDOWS. *JB
TRANSMISSION ABRUPTLY DOWNSHIFTED WITHOUT WARNING, AND AT ONE POINT SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. PULLED CAR OFF ROAD SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED, GOT CAR HOME CALLED FOR TOW TRUCK TOOK TO TRANSMISSION REPAIR SHOP. HAD TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION. *TR
THE CAR WAS NOT SHIFTING PROPERLY. REVVING HIGH WHEN TRYING TO UPSHIFT AND SHIFTING DOWN HARD WHEN DOWNSHIFTING. IN ONE OR 2 OCCASIONS THIS LOCKED THE WHEELS AND THE CAR SKIDDED. THIS CAR HAD BEEN UPDATED PER PREVIOUS RECALL IN 2004: 2003 HONDA ACCORD RECALL ID FROM NHTSA: 04V176000 AUTO RECALL DATE: 04/15/2004 VEHICLE COMPONENT: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ESTIMATED VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1099796 OBVIOUSLY THAT FIX DID NOT WORK, AS THE CAR STILL EXHIBITED THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM AND HONDA DOES NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THIS IS CONTINUING TO BE AN ISSUE. *TR
SRS LIGHT COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING. TALKED WITH THE DEALER HE TOLD ME TO GET THE SRS MODULE REPLACED. I THINK THIS IS A MANUFACTURERS FAULT NOT INSTALLING PROPER SRS SENSOR MODULE INTO HONDA ACCORD EX MODEL CARS. I TRULY BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
2003 HONDA ACCORD V6 TRANSMISSION FAILURE WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. VEHICLE AS WELL AS OCCUPANT WERE IN DANGER OF INJURY/ETC. HONDA HAD ISSUED A RECALL ON THIS MODEL OF HONDA/TRANSMISSION FOR INSPECTION/REPAIR. REPAIR BASED UPON HONDA'S EVALUATION WAS COMPLETED. VEHICLE WAS THEN CLEARED AS REPAIRED AND SAFE TO DRIVE. AFTER REPAIR TRANSMISSION FAILED AS STATED ABOVE . VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AFTER A QUICK MEDIATION WHILE WE WERE AWAY ON A TRIP. THIS WAS MEDIATED VIA A REPRESENTATIVE FOR HONDA DEALERS. UPON RETURN FROM THE TRIP,DEALER WAS CONTACTED TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR AND TOLD NO FURTHER CONTACT WITH HONDA REPRESENTATIVE BY CUSTOMER WAS ALLOWED. WEDNESDAY NOV 4, 2009 MY WHEELS LOCKED UP WITH CATASTROPHIC TRANSMISSION FAILURE OF MY 2003 ACCORD V6 AUTOMATIC AT FREEWAY SPEEDS ON HWY 90 IN SAN ANTONIO. THE TRUCK FOLLOWING ME WAS ABLE TO BRAKE WITHOUT HITTING ME, I HAD MY SEATBELT ON OTHERWISE I WOULD HAVE BEEN THROWN INTO THE WINDSHIELD. IT FELT LIKE SOMEONE HAD SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES. I REALIZED SOMETHING WAS DRASTICALLY WRONG WITH THE CAR SO I PUT IT IN NEUTRAL. BY THEN I WAS COASTING AT ABOUT 40 MILES AN HOUR, CARS WERE HONKING AND PASSING ME ON BOTH SIDES AND I WAS 'LOCKED IN' ON THE FREEWAY. WHEN I PUT THE CAR BACK IN DRIVE AND ACCELERATED TO TRY TO MERGE THROUGH TRAFFIC TO GET OFF THE FREEWAY, THE TRANSMISSION SEIZED UP AGAIN, THIS TIME WITHOUT AS MUCH FORCE, IT ONLY SLOWED ME DOWN 5 MPH OR SO. IT LOCKED UP 2 TO 3 MORE TIMES, EACH TIME WITH LESS FORCE AS I TRIED TO MAINTAIN ENOUGH SPEED TO MOVE TO THE SHOULDER. THIS EVENT WAS PRECEDED BY SEVERAL MONTHS OF INTERMITTENT HARD DOWN SHIFTS AND ANOTHER 2 HARD DOWNSHIFTS IN A PERIOD OF A FEW HOURS TWO DAYS EARLIER. I HAD ALREADY MADE ONE DEDICATED DEALER SERVICE CALL FOR THIS SPECIFIC ISSUE AND ANOTHER WHERE I MENTIONED IT AND BOTH TIMES I WAS TOLD HONDA KNEW OF NO PROBLEMS WITH THIS TRANSMISSION AND I WAS ADVISED NO REPAIRS WERE NEEDED. SINCE THE EVENT I'VE LOOKED AT HONDA OWNER WEB FORUMS AND THE NHTSA SITE AND DISCOVERED THAT OTHERS WITH THE 2003 YEAR MODEL HONDA ACCORD HAVE DESCRIBED THE SAME CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THEIR TRANSMISSION WITH LOCK-UP. IT APPEARS THAT AMERICAN HONDA HAS PAID PART OR ALL OF THE REPAIR COSTS FOR SEVERAL PEOPLE. HONDA HAS AGREED TO PAY 50% OF MY REPAIR AND I AM IN DISCUSSION WITH THEM FOR MORE COVERAGE BECAUSE OF THE FACT THAT I HAD SOUGHT SERVICE FOR THIS ISSUE AND HAD BEEN TOLD THERE WAS NO REPAIR NEEDED. I DON'T HAVE ACCESS TO THE DATA THAT THE NHTSA HAS OR THAT AMERICAN HONDA HAS BUT I AM CONCERNED THAT OTHER 2003 ACCORD DRIVERS MAY HAVE DANGEROUS TRANSMISSIONS THAT COULD RESULT IN A DEADLY ACCIDENT. *TR

WE HAD NO NOTABLE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS UNTIL LAST WEEK, AT 91,000 MILES, THE CARD SUDDENLY DOWNSHIFTED TO FIRST GEAR WHILE TRAVELING 60 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY, NEARLY CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL AND PROPULSION OF THE DRIVER TOWARDS THE WINDSHIELD. AT THE REPAIR SHOP, A TEST DRIVE LED TO A SIMILAR FAILURE AT 55 MPH, NEARLY CAUSING THE DRIVER TO BE EJECTED THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD. 2) THE TRANSMISSION FAILURES OCCUR ONLY AFTER THE CAR WARMS UP THROUGH DRIVING ABOUT 30 MIN. ADDITIONAL PROBLEMS INCLUDE FAILURE TO GO INTO REVERSE, LURCHING AS CAR DELAYS ITS ENTRY FROM PARK TO DRIVE, AND DIFFICULTY REMAINING IN A GEAR - SEARCHING FOR A GEAR WHILE AT A CONSTANT SPEED. 3) WE ARE PAYING FOR A REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION TO BE INSTALLED BY A NON-HONDA SHOP USING A HONDA-REBUILT TRANSMISSION. THE HONDA DEALER TOLD US THAT HONDA DID NOT HAVE A GOODWILL POLICY FOR THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM AND THAT WE SHOULD PAY THE REPAIR OURSELVES. *TR

THEY "INSTALLED AN OIL JET ON TRANSMISSION SECOND GEAR INSPECTION" UNDER THE RECALL. 22OCT09 MY 2003 HONDA ACCORD EXPERIENCED MULTIPLE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. THE SERVICE CLERK APOLOGIZED FOR MY PROBLEM BUS FAILED TO MENTION ABOUT THIS TRANSMISSION PROBLEM BEING A COMMON ISSUE WITH 2003 HONDA ACCORDS. HE TOLD ME THAT SINCE THE TRANSMISSION SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED WITH ONLY 70K MILES ON MY VEHICLE THAT HONDA WOULD PAY FOR 50% OF THE PARTS AND 25% OF THE LABOR. THE FIX WAS A JET KIT IN THE TRANSMISSION TO HELP COOL DOWN THE FLUID. EVEN THOUGH THE EXTRA HEAT BURNT THE TRANSMISSION OIL AND CAUSED SOME FAILURE IN THE TRANSMISSION. COINCIDENTALLY THE SECOND GEAR IS WHAT IS MESSED UP. THE HONDA AMERICA REP TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE LOOKING FOR A "CATASTROPHIC" PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION FOR THEM TO BE RESPONSIBLE. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING HIS VEHICLE, THE TRANSMISSION STARTED TO FLUTTER WHICH WAS AN INDICATION THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS FAILING. I FEEL IT IS A MATTER OF TIME AND THE TRANSMISSION WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT IF IT ALREADY HASN'T AND JUST NOT BEEN REPORTED. *TR
DRIVING CAR ON US HIGHWAY 90 BETWEEN LAFAYETTE LOUISIANA AND NEW IBERIA LOUISIANA AT A SPEED OF ABOUT SIXTY (60) MILES AN HOUR WHEN CAR SUDDENLY AND VIOLENTLY DOWNSHIFTED INTO EITHER FIRST OR SECOND GEAR. THE SUDDEN DECELERATION PRACTICALLY SHOVED ME FORWARD FEELING AS IF I HAD BEEN REAR-ENDED. I WAS BARELY ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL PREVENTING CAR TO SPIN OR SWERVE TO THE RIGHT. TRAFFIC WAS MODERATE OR SLIGHTLY HEAVY. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS DIRECTLY BEHIND ME AT A CLOSE DISTANCE. HAD THERE BEEN, AN ACCIDENT WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY LIKELY. THE CAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM WAS TRANSMISSION FAILURE OR TORQUE CONVERTER LOCK UP. CORRECTIVE MEASURES ARE TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION, WHICH WILL BE DONE IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS BY HONDA DEALERSHIP. *TR
2003 HONDA ACCORD EX V6 HAS FAULTY TRANSMISSION. I PURCHASED THIS CAR USED IN 2006 AND WAS UNAWARE THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD BEEN RECALLED. THE CAR DID NOT COME WITH ANY SERVICE RECORDS. 2003 HONDA ACCORD TRANSMISSION FAILURE, ON 9/19 I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT ABOUT 45 MPH AND MY CAR SHIFTED DOWN TO FIRST GEAR, WITH THE ENGINE REVVED UP TO 3 RPM'S. MY CAR CAME TO AN ABRUPT HOLT AND THE CAR BEHIND ME HAD TO RUN OFF THE ROAD TO MISS FROM HITTING ME. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR TO THE DEALER, ITS THE TRANSMISSION. MY CAR HAS 80,098 MILES AND SHOULD NOT BE HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS LIKE THIS. THERE WAS A RECALL, BUT OBVIOUSLY IT WASN'T THE RIGHT THING TO FIX THE PROBLEM. ON 9-17-09 I WAS TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE, HONDA ACCORD, EX 6 CYLINDER VIOLENTLY LUNGED CAUSING ME TO BE THROWN FORWARD, HITTING THE STEERING WHEEL WITH MY UPPER BODY AND THEN BACKWARDS INTO MY SEAT. I EXPERIENCED NO LOSS OF POWER AND THE CAR CONTINUED TO MOVE. IF I HAD BEEN CLOSE TO ANY OTHER VEHICLE THIS WOULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE I BEGAN TO SWERVE INTO ANOTHER LANE. IF I HAD BEEN KNOCKED OUT I MAY BE EITHER DEAD OR IN A HOSPITAL, AND EVEN WORSE COULD HAVE HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE, INJURING SOMEONE ELSE. THE NEXT MORNING I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP TO EVALUATE THE PROBLEM, AND AFTER THERE INSPECTION RECOMMENDED I GO TO THE HONDA DEALERSHIP FOR FURTHER DIAGNOSIS/REPAIR. I WILL BE TAKING THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP ON MONDAY 9-10-09, THE SERVICE MANAGER IS ALREADY AWARE OF THE SITUATION AND WILL DETERMINE IF THE TRANSMISSION IS FAULTY. *TR
THE HEATED SEAT ELEMENT ON DRIVER'S SEAT MALFUNCTIONS, HAD SPORADICALLY COME ON AT RANDOM TIMES (HAD BEEN OCCURRING SEVERAL TIMES PER WEEK) WITH BUTTON IN OFF POSITION, ON MY '03 HONDA ACCORD. IT WOULD GET QUITE HOT NEAR LOWER BACK PORTION OF SEAT. THE DEALER HAD DISCONNECT AT MY REQUEST THE WIRE ON THE CONSOLE BUTTON, IN HOPES THIS ADDRESSED THE SITUATION. I'M NOT CONFIDENT THIS HAS BEEN TOTALLY RESOLVED, AND MY VEHICLE HAS HAD 3 INEXPLICABLE ELECTRICAL ISSUES OVER THE PAST 12-14 MONTHS. MY CONCERN IS THAT THIS IS A FIRE AND SAFETY HAZARD. *TR

UNINTENDED VEHICLE DECELERATION INCREASED THE RISK OF A VEHICLE CRASH. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE; THEREFORE, NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 133,000.
