TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH, THE VEHICLE DOWN SHIFTED INTO FIRST GEAR. AS A CONSEQUENCE HIS RISK FOR A VEHICLE CRASH WAS INCREASED. HE WAS ABLE TO ACCELERATE TO THE INTENDED SPEED, AFTER A FEW MINUTES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY FOR INSPECTION. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION AT AN EXPENSE OF $ 2,300.00. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 106,600. UPDATED 10/20/09 *CN THE CONSUMER HAD THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED AND ACCORDING TO AAMCO THE SECOND AND THIRD GEAR HAD TOTALLY FAILED. UPDATED 10/22/09.*JB
HAD AN ACCIDENT IN WHICH THE DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. *TR
MY 03 ACCORD EX-V6 TRANSMISSION FAILED WHILE MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING. SHE WAS VERY UPSET AS SHE WAS TRAVELING AT 45MPH WHEN TRANSMISSION LOCKED UP NEARLY CAUSING A REAR END CRASH. SHE ATTEMPTED TO RESTART BY THE D4 LIGHT AND SEVERAL DASH LIGHTS STARTED BLINKING AND CAR WOULDN'T MOVE. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO REPAIR FACILITY AND DETERMINED THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED AT A OWNER COST OF $3600. THE 03 ACCORD V-6 COUPE IS THE WORST YEAR OF THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AND HONDA IGNORES THE OWNERS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 HONDA ACCORD WITH 113,236 MILES. WHEN THE VEHICLE SHIFTS BETWEEN SECOND AND THIRD GEAR THE SOLENOID CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO LOSE POWER. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT RECALL 04V176000, POWER TRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WAS REPAIRED WITH THE PREVIOUS OWNER.

2003 ACCORD STARTING WITH TRANSMISSION SLIPPING AROUND 2ND GEAR. ON WED. AUG. 26 TRAVELING SOUTH OF WINSTON SALEM NC ON HWY 52 WHEN CAR JERKED TO AN ALMOST COMPLETE STOP. WHILE TRYING TO PULL OVER TO STOP LANE IT JERKED SEVERAL MORE TIMES. STARTED TO DRIVE ON SHOULDER TO NEXT TOWN WHEN STOPPED BY STATE TROOPER AND EXPLAINED SITUATION. TOLD ME TO BE SAFE AND GET IT OFF MAIN HIGHWAY. THE ENGINE LIGHT,TCS AND MAINTENANCE LIGHT ALL ON PLUS GREEN LIGHT AT DRIVE IS FLASHING. VERY LUCKY I DID NOT GET HIT OR HIT SOMEONE DUE TO LOCKUP. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER HE PARKED HIS VEHICLE IN THE GARAGE AND REMOVED THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION, THE VEHICLE ROLLED BACKWARDS AND CRASHED INTO A TREE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THERE WAS EXTENSIVE DAMAGED TO THE REAR BUMPER OF THE VEHICLE. THE INSURANCE COMPANY REPAIRED THE VEHICLE; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR COST. THE DEALER STATED THAT IF HE WAS ABLE TO TAKE THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION THAT THERE WAS NO FAILURE. THE DEALER DID NOT CALL THE CONTACT REGARDING THE FAILURE; ALTHOUGH, HE HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE BACK FOR OTHER ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. NHTSA RECALL #10V364000, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IGNITION DATED AUGUST 04, 2010 WAS RELATED TO THE FAILURE AND WAS NOT EXPECTED TO BEGIN UNTIL ON OR ABOUT SEPTEMBER 29, 2010. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE WAS IN AN ACCIDENT AND THE ENTIRE FRONT OF HER VEHICLE WAS DAMAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS CONSIDERED A TOTAL LOSS. SHE STATED THAT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH AT THE TIME OF THE CRASH .AS A RESULT THE CONTACT EXPERIENCING INJURIES TO HER ARMS, BRUISES AND WHIP LASH. TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2003 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE AND THE BRAKES BECAME DISENGAGED. (BRAKES DISENGAGED BEFORE CRASH) THE OTHER VEHICLE PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE, WHICH RESULTED IN A CRASH. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. 2003 HONDA ACCORD WITH V-6 WHILE TRAVELING 215 MILES TO A FRIENDS FUNERAL MY TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO VIOLENTLY SHIFT INTO 1ST GEAR REGARDLESS OF THE SPEED TRAVELING. THIS STARTED AFTER EXITING THE INTERSTATE AND STOPPING TO LOOK AT THE MAP ABOUT 40 MILES FROM MY DESTINATION. I TRIED DRIVING AS GENTLY AS I COULD AND THE CAR WOULD START SHIFTING NORMALLY AND AT SOME POINT AFTER SHIFTING INTO A GEAR HIGHER NUMBER GEAR THAN 1ST IT WOULD DOWNSHIFT INTO 1ST. NONE OF THE GEARS WERE SLIPPING. AFTER A NUMBER OF STARTS IT WENT INTO LIMP HOME MODE STAYING IN 1ST GEAR AND I FINISHED MY TRIP IN 1ST ON COUNTRY ROADS. I LET THE CAR SIT ALL DAY WHILE AT THE FUNERAL AND WHEN I STARTED IT TO PUT IT ON A TRAILER IT WAS WORKING FINE. THEREFORE I LEFT FOR HOME. ONCE THE ENGINE WAS UP TO TEMP IT STARTED DOING IT AGAIN. THIS TIME I QUICKLY PUT THE TRANS IN NEUTRAL FOR 2-3 SECONDS THEN BACK INTO DRIVE AND ALL WAS WELL FOR A FEW MILES, SOMETIMES 20-30 AND IT DID IT AGAIN. IF I WEREN'T AN EXPERIENCED DRIVER AND ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL WHILE QUICKLY PUTTING THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL IT I HAVE NO DOUBT IT WOULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. WHEN TRAVELING AT 65-70MPH ON THE INTERSTATE DOWNSHIFTING TO 1ST IS VERY DANGEROUS. MY CAR IS AT THE DEALER WHO JUST SAYS THE TRANS MUST BE REPLACED FOR $,3610.00 AND CANNOT EXPLAIN WHY IT SHIFTS FINE WHEN COLD BUT STARTS ACTING UP WHEN HOT. WE HAVE ABOUT 112,000 MILES ON THIS CAR AND HAVEN'T HAD ANY PROBLEMS UNTIL THIS WHICH WAS SHORTLY AFTER THE DEALER FLUSHED AND REFILLED THE TRANSMISSION. I'VE CALLED HONDA USA AND AM WAITING TO HEAR BACK FROM THEM. MANY TALK OF THEIR TRANS GOING OUT OF GEAR AND COASTING WITH THE RPM SUDDENLY SHOOTING UP AS IF IT WERE IN NEUTRAL AFTER WHICH NO GEAR WILL ENGAGE. MINE NEVER SLIPPED IN ANY GEAR, JUST DOWNSHIFTS ABRUPTLY TO 1ST WITHOUT WARNING. I'VE ASKED HONDA WHY IT WORKS FINE WHEN COLD AND NOT WHEN WARMED UP. THEY DON'T KNOW AND JUST REPEAT THAT THE TRANS NEEDS REPLACING. THIS IS DEFINATELY A SAFETY HAZARD. *TR
CAMSHAFT FAILURE 2003 HONDA ACCORD 2.4 DOHC IVTECH .VEHICLE BEGAN TO PRODUCE A SLIGHT VALVE CLATTER UNDER ACCELERATION WITH A/C ON .TECHNICIAN WAS ASKED TO ADJUST THE VALVES WHEN IT WAS NOTED THAT ON ONE OF THE LOBES ON THE EXHAUST CAMSHAFT HAD LOST ITS HARD FACING AND THE CAM WAS EXPERIENCING RAPID WEAR.THIS IS AN OBVIOUS DEFECT IN THE HEAT TREATING OF THE CAMSHAFT SINCE NONE OF THE OTHER LOBES ON THIS CAM ARE AFFECTED. ALL VEHICLE MAINTENANCE WAS PERFORMED AS RECOMENDED. BY HONDA MOTOR COMPANY . I CONTACTED HONDA MOTOR COMPANY OF AMERICA VIA TELEPHONE AND WAS TURNED AWAY AT THE DOOR (SO TO SPEAK) I THINK THIS IS AN EMISSIONS RELATED CONCERN THAT HONDA IS ATTEMPTING TO IGNORE. VEHICLE"S WITH 98K UNDER 10 YEARS OLD SHOULD NOT HAVE RAPID WEAR FAILURE"S OF THIS SORT . *TR
I HAVE A 2003 HONDA ACCORD EX V6 MODEL WITH 107,000 MILES. I AM HAVING APPARENT TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT A NORMAL SPEED WHEN THE TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTS FROM 5TH GEAR TO THE 1ST GEAR, WHICH FEELS LIKE SLAMMING ON THE BREAKS GOING 70MPH. THE VEHICLES DIRECTLY BEHIND ME HAD TO SWERVE INTO OTHER OCCUPIED LANES IN ORDER TO AVOID A REAR END COLLISION. THE INSTANCE WAS VERY SCARY AND ALTHOUGH THERE WAS NO WRECK OR INJURIES, THIS COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A CATASTROPHIC WRECK. FROM THE RESEARCH I HAVE DONE, THERE IS A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT WITH TRANSMISSIONS IN THIS PARTICULAR MODEL AND THAT A RECALL ON THIS DEFECT HAS NOT BEEN ESTABLISHED BECAUSE THE DEFECT IS NOT A "SAFETY HAZARD". 2003 ACCORD V6 TAKEN TO CENTURY HONDA (CINCINNATI, OH) MANY TIMES BUT DEALER UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. AUG. 13, 2009 TRAVELING APPROX. 55 MPH, WITHIN SECONDS CAR SLAMMED DOWN TO 15 MPH, DUE TO QUICK THINKING MAJOR ACCIDENT AVOIDED. TOWED TO DEALER, SERVICE TECH, STRANDED BY CAR. PROBLEM WAS DUPLICATED. QUOTED $3400 TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION. IT'S NOW SEPT. 16TH, WORKED WITH HONDA AMERICA ON PRICE, PROBLEM. RELUNCTANTLY, CAME DOWN TO $1700 PLUS TAX BUT NO ACKNOWLEDGING THAT TRANSMISSION IS BIG PROBLEM. AGREED UPON SOLUTION, NOW HONDA SERVICE SAYS UNABLE TO GET TRANSMISSION. THAT'S RIGHT, 1 MONTH, BIG EXPENSE AND STILL NO CAR. SAFETY, SECURITY PUT AT RISK. *TR
THE SRS WARNING INDICATOR COMES ON WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STARTED AND IS OCCASIONALLY STAYING ON. RESEARCH ONLINE SHOWS THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH OLDER HONDA ACCORDS, AND AN EXTENDED WARRANTY WAS ISSUED BY HONDA TO WARRANTY THE OPDS SYSTEM WHICH CONTROLS THE AIRBAGS AND SEAT BELT TENSIONING SYSTEM. MY ACCORD, 2003, IS NOT COVERED BY THIS EXTENDED WARRANTY. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, AS THE AIRBAGS ARE DISABLED WHEN THE SRS WARNING LIGHT IS ON, AND I AM ASTONISHED AT THE TREATMENT HONDA HAS GIVEN ME. THEY ARE UNWILLING TO COVER THIS, EVEN THOUGH THERE IS A HISTORY OF COMPLAINTS. *TR
TRANSMISSION IS GOING OUT WITH LESS THEN 100K. COULD CAUSE A CRASH IF YOUR TRYING TO GET OUT INTO TRAFFIC AND YOUR TRANSMISSION DECIDES TO GO OUT. BIG PROBLEM ON THIS YEAR AND MODEL FROM WHAT I READ. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, SHE HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND WAS UNABLE TO SHIFT GEARS. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED ON AUGUST 7, 2009 BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. SHE WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING $1,265 TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. SHE SPOKE TO A HONDA REPRESENTATIVE REGARDING A GOODWILL REPAIR LISTED ON THEIR WEBSITE AND WAS ADVISED TO FAX HER RECEIPT AND SHE WOULD NOTIFY HER ABOUT THE REIMBURSEMENT AMOUNT ON SEPTEMBER 8, 2009 SINCE THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. THE REPRESENTATIVE GAVE HER A CASE NUMBER AND ALSO STATED THAT SHE NEEDED TO INVESTIGATE HER METHOD OF PAYMENT. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000.
1ST INCIDENT WAS TRANSMISSION FAILURE WAS IN AUGUST OF 2009 WHEN CAR HAD 77,000 MILES ON IT. WAS TRYING TO TURN RIGHT AND AFTER STARTING THE TURN LOST ALL POWER TO THE POWER TRAIN. COULDN'T MAKE A TURN WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. COST OF 1ST TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT $2500 (HONDA ACTUALLY PAID HALF (HOW GRACIOUS, WHEN THEY KNEW THAT THEY HAVE A FLAW SHOULD HAVE BEEN 100%. (REPLACED WITH FACTORY HONDA TRANSMISSION) 3 YEAR, 360000 WARRANTY 2ND INCIDENT 8/1012014 WAS DRIVING ON FREEWAY AT 65 MPH AND CAR SLAMMED INTO 1ST GEAR (AND REDUCED SPEED BY AT LEAST 15 --20 MPH. LUCKILY I WASN'T REAR-ENDED AS IT JERKED THE WHOLE CAR AND REDUCED THE SPEED IN SECONDS. ISSUE TRANSMISSION FAILURE. COST TO REPLACE $4500. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2003 HONDA ACCORD COUPE ON JULY 31ST WHEN IT STARTED TO RAIN. AS I WAS RETURNING HOME, IT STARTED TO RAIN HARDER. DURING THIS TIME, MY WIPERS STOPPED FOR AS LONG AS A MINUTE AND THEN WOULD START AGAIN, ONLY TO PAUSE AGAIN. I TRIED SETTING THE WIPERS TO HIGH AND FOUND THAT I HAD NO HIGH. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT HOME WITHOUT INCIDENT. I THEN RESEARCHED THE ISSUE ON THIS SITE AND FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM (CAMPAIGN ID: 08V169000, NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: PE07060), HOWEVER HONDA ONLY APPLIED IT TO THE 4 DR MODELS. AS I WAS TRAVELING LAST WEEK, MY WIFE CALLED HONDA AND CONFIRMED THIS FACT. TODAY, I TOOK THE CAR IN TO MY DEALERSHIP SO THAT THEY CAN TAKE A LOOK. THE PROBLEM WAS CONFIRMED TO BE THE SAME AS THE ISSUE THAT HAS ALREADY BEEN LOGGED. *TR
2003 HONDA ACCORD WITH 41,000 MILES. TRANSMISSION FAILED HAD TO PAY $3600 TO REBUILD TRANSMISSION AND REPLACE TORQUE CONVERTER. HONDA WOULD DO NOTHING. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE!!! ALMOST WRECKED MY CAR DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE 2003 HONDA ACCORD V-6 WITH 109,000 MILES, THE TRANSMISSION STARTED SLIPPING OUT OF GEAR; WITHIN 500 MILES OF THE SLIP OUT OF GEAR AND WHILST TRAVELING AT 65 MILES PER HOUR ON INTERSTATE-5 IN LOS ANGELES, THE TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY FAILED; RPM SHOT UP, AND PUSHING GAS PEDAL HAD NO AFFECT OF SPEED OR CONTROL. CAR IMMEDIATELY SLOWED DOWN IN THE FAST LANE AND CREATED A MAJOR FREEWAY HAZARD; OTHER DRIVERS SWERVED TO AVOID ME WHILST I CONTINUED TO SLOW AND DRIFT TO RIGHT SHOULDER AND OFF-RAMP; UPON SHUTTING OF CAR AND WAITING 20 MINUTES I WAS ABLE TO TRAVEL AT A SLOW RATE OF SPEED TO MY HOUSE IN FIRST GEAR ONLY AND IN NO GEAR SOME OF THE TIME. IN FRONT OF MY HOUSE, TRANSMISSION FAILED AGAIN. AFRAID TO DRIVE CAR AND THE SCAR OF NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT, I HAD CAR TOWED ON A TOW TRUCK TO MECHANIC. TRANSMISSION MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT TRANSMISSION HAS "DIED" AND NEEDS TO BE COMPLETELY REBUILT OR REPLACED. TRANSMISSION MECHANIC WITH 30+ YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IS CORRECTING SITUATION BY REBUILDING THE TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY. THIS SUDDEN FAILURE ALMOST CAUSED A CATASTROPHIC ACCIDENT THAT HAD TO POTENTIAL TO INVOLVE ME AND OTHER MOTORISTS. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD AND DEFECT. *TR

I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 45 MPH AND SUDDENLY IT FELT LIKE MY CAR HAD DOWNSHIFTED. MY CAR DIDN'T MOVE AND THE RPMS WENT UP TO ABOUT 4,000. I TRIED TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE AS I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THREE LANE ROAD IN THE MIDDLE LANE AND THE CAR STRUGGLE TO MOVE. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A SHOP NEARBY AND THE TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED. IT WAS REBUILT IN JULY OF 2009. FOUR DAYS AGO, ON 11/22/12 I WAS DRIVING THE SAME CAR, WHICH HAS BEEN KEPT UP AND WELL MAINTAINED, AND A SIMILAR ISSUE OCCURRED- THIS TIME WHILE I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY. I WAS COMING OFF A RAMP AND THE CAR ONCE AGAIN FELT LIKE IT WAS DOWNSHIFTING. THE ONLY WAY I CAN EXPLAIN IS IT FELT LIKE SOMEONE HIT THE BRAKES WHILE I WAS DRIVING. LUCKILY- I WAS MERGING ONTO THE FREEWAY SO I WAS RIGHT NEXT TO THE SHOULDER AND GOT OUT OF THE WAY AS SOON AS I COULD. MOST DAYS THE CAR IS FINE BUT THEN THE PROBLEM WILL OCCUR SUDDENLY. MY MOTHER TRIED PRESSING THE BRAKE AS HARD AS SHE COULD AND HAD THE BRAKE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR AND THE CAR JUST KEPT THE MOMENTUM GOING UNTIL IT HIT THE RETAINING WALL. WHEN THE CAR CAME TO A STOP, BOTH AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. MY FATHER WHO WAS THE FRONT-SEAT PASSENGER WAS BADLY INJURED BREAKING SEVERAL RIBS, REQUIRING SURGERY AND MONTHS OF HOSPITALIZATION. THE RECALL REPAIR WAS DONE AT 18,000 MILES IN 2004. IN 2009 AT 85,000 MILES, HONDA SAYS THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED TO THE TUNE OF $3,700. HOWEVER, THE DEALERSHIP REFUSES TO OPEN THE TRANSMISSION TO SEE IF THE GEAR IS HEAT DAMAGED! ACCORDING TO THE RECALL REPAIR PROCEDURE, THIS WOULD SHOW IF THE DAMAGE RELATES TO THE 2004 RECALL, RECALL REPAIR DONE OR NOT. I SPOKE TO AMERICAN HONDA WHO OFFERED A $1,300 CONTRIBUTION TOWARD THE REPAIR, BUT ONLY AT A HONDA DEALERSHIP. THE "CUSTOMER SERVICE" REP SAID SHE REALLY DIDN'T HAVE ANY INCENTIVE TO OFFER A "GOODWILL REPAIR" AT ALL AS I'D INFORMED HER I WAS LOOKING TO SELL THE CAR AND NOW COULD NOT AS THE TRANSMISSION WAS SHOT. END RESULT: I'M PICKING UP THE CAR FROM THE DEALERSHIP TOMORROW. THEY ARE MORE THAN WILLING TO LET ME DRIVE IT AWAY (AFTER PAYING THEM THE $100 FOR A TRULY UNNECESSARY DIAGNOSTIC GIVEN THE 2004 HONDA ACCORD'S TRANSMISSION HISTORY), EVEN THOUGH THEY STATE THE TRANSMISSION COULD LOCK UP AT ANY GIVEN TIME. AND TOLD ME I HAD TO HAVE MY TRANSMISSION REPLACED! I BOUGHT MY CAR BRAND NEW IN 03 AND HAVE KEPT IT SERVICED AND MAINTAINED WITH A VERY METICULOUS RECORD. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN MY CAR DID NOT MOVE & THE ENGINE JUST REVVED UP. I WENT NO WHERE. I WAS HOLDING TRAFFIC UP & WAS TOTALLY CLUELESS THAT MY TRANSMISSION JUST WENT. I TURNED THE CAR OFF & ON A FEW TIMES TO SEE IF THE CAR WOULD MOVE BUT NO LUCK UNTIL AFTER SOME TIME THE CAR MOVED AFTER ABOUT 25 MINUTES. FROM THAT POINT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO PAST ABOUT 25 MPH WHEN IT COULD DRIVE. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A SHOP & PAID 2,150 TO GET THE TRANSMISSION FIXED. IN 2013 THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN WHEN MY CAR WAS AROUND 119,000 MILES. ON THE SECOND TIME THIS HAPPENED I PAID 3,500 TO GET THE CAR FIXED. I HAVE RECEIPTS. *TR
I HAVE AN '03 HONDA ACCORD EX WITH TRANSMISSION SLIPPAGE.WHILE DRIVING ON THE EXPRESSWAY, (40-50 MPH) MY CAR WOULD SLOW DOWN TO ABOUT 20-30MPH!, CAUSING TRAFFIC BEHIND ME TO ALMOST REAR END MY VEH. I WOULD ATTEMPT TO SPEED UP, BUT THE ENGINE WOULD JUST REV UP WITH NO INCREASE IN SPEED. AFTER MAINTAINING 20-30MPH FOR A FEW SECONDS THE VEH. WOULD SUDDENLY JERK FORWARD AND THE SLOW DOWN AGAIN.I TOOK THE VEH. TO SLOAN HONDA (PHILA.) AND THEY TOLD ME THAT I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION, AND IT WOULD COST ME $3,500.00. A SERVICE REP. CALLED BACK AGAIN AND STATED THAT HONDA AGREED TO LOWER MY PAYMENT TO $2,100.00. I'M A LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER FOR THIS CITY AND I NEED A VEH. THE DEALERSHIP NOR HONDA WOULD GIVE A COURTESY RENTAL ! THERE IS AN OBVIOUS SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE '03 HONDA TRANSMISSION AND I HOPE THAT THIS WILL BE ADDRESSED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH OR HIGHER, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY DOWNSHIFTS TO A LOWER GEAR. WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURS, THE CONTACT IS THROWN AGAINST THE STEERING WHEEL. THE FAILURE COULD ALSO CAUSE A REAR-END CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE OR DETERMINE THE CAUSE. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 131,000.
AFTER VEHICLE'S TRANSMISSION WARMS UP TO NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURE, VEHICLE'S TRANSMISSION LOSES GEARS 3, 4, 5, AND REVERSE SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNING, FORCING THE TRANSMISSION TO VIOLENTLY SHIFT INTO WHAT APPEARS TO BE 1ST AND 2ND GEARS OR NEUTRAL. VEHICLE OFTEN THEN DECELERATES VIOLENTLY AT FREEWAY SPEEDS TO APPROXIMATELY 50 MILES PER HOUR. VEHICLE OPERATOR (MYSELF) AND OCCUPANTS THEN REPORT A STRONG ODOR THOUGHT TO BE BURNING TRANSMISSION FLUID. IN PAST 6 MONTHS, I HAVE BROUGHT MY CAR IN FOR SERVICE TO 3 DIFFERENT SHOPS INCLUDING A HONDA DEALERSHIP AND ALL HAD REPORTED NO PROBLEMS AND NOT BEING ABLE TO FIX UNLESS THERE WAS A TROUBLE READING ON THE COMPUTER. PROBLEM BEGAN HAPPENING ONLY ONCE A MONTH BUT SINCE INITIAL APPEARANCE HAS NOW BEEN A DAILY OCCURRENCE ON BOTH FREEWAYS AND NEIGHBORHOOD STREETS. RECENTLY VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT BACK TO A HONDA DEALERSHIP FOR A FREE INSPECTION AND STATED THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS REPLACING WITH ONLY 73,000 MILES DRIVEN. *TR
