2003 ACCORD V6 CONSTANT ROTOR SERVICE. ROTOR SERVICE AT 15,000 (MACHINED, WAS NOT CHARGED), 30,000 (FRONT REPLACED ROTORS AND PADS PAID BY DEALER, REAR MACHINED & NEW PADS PAID BY ME, 35,000 ROTORS NEED REPAIR (SERVICE SCHEDULED FOR 6/8 AND I AM NOT PAYING AGAIN!). I HAD A MAZDA PRIOR TO THIS AUTO WITH 80,000 MILES AND THE ROTORS WERE ONLY SERVICED ONCE WITHIN THAT TIME.*AK
FRONT END PRODUCES A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE INTERMITTENTLY. THE DEALER CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM . *AK
WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, THERE WAS A SHUTTERING IN THE FRONT END. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE WAS ALMOST INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT. *AK DEFECTIVE BRAKE PADS WERE INSTALLED DURING MANUFACTURING. EXCESSIVE HEAT WARPED THE ROTORS AND AFFECTED THE STEERING. *SC *JB
TWO FRONT END ALIGNMENTS WERE PERFORMED AND THE TIRES WERE ROTATED. A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN INDICATED THAT THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED BECAUSE THE CRATE UPON WHICH THE ENGINE SITS WAS NOT POSITIONED CORRECTLY AT THE FACTORY. THE DEALERSHIP POSITIONED THE CRATE CORRECTLY, BUT THE PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK THE CONSUMER NOTICED WHEN HE BACKED UP THE VEHICLE , A CLICK WOULD BE HEARD AS IF THE GEAR WAS NOT POSITIONED CORRECTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLING TO THE RIGHT. THE CONSUMER ALSO FELT SOMETHING LIKE A CRATE OR TIRE AXLE WOULD SHIFT TO ONE SIDE. *SC THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT WAS THE WAY THE VEHICLE WAS DESIGNED. *JB
BARKE ROTORS WARPED ON MY 2003 ACCORD WITH ONLY 10,000 MILES ON THEM- DEALER TURNED THE ROTORS AND PUT ON NEW PADS; HOWEVER, THERE WAS NO NOTIFICATION FROM HONDA REGARDING THE PROBLEM- THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE- ALL AFFECTED CARS SHOULD BE GIVEN NEW ROTORS. *AK
2003 HONDA ACCORD PASSENGER AIR BAG INADVERTENTLY DEPLOYED. *MR THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG INADVERTENTLY DEPLOYED WHILE DRIVING OVER A SMALL BUMP ON THE HIGHWAY. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOLD THE CONSUMER THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT FIXING THE AIR BAGS AND THE PART WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. *SC *JB
PROBLEMS WITH VEHICLE'S ACCELERATOR. *MR THIS WAS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM WITH THE ACCELERATOR. WHEN PRESSED FROM A STOP, IT WOULD FAIL TO RESPOND. THE PROBLEM WAS UNABLE TO BE DUPLICATED. *SC *JB
THE FOLLOWING IS WHAT HAPPENED TO MY DAUGHTER: WHILE TRAVELING IN RUSH HOUR(5-10MPH) TRAFFIC ON I80 IN NEW JERESY ON HER FIRST DAY TO A NEW JOB, HER RADIO STOPPED PLAYING. WHILE PRESSING BUTTONS TO TRY TO FIND ANOTHER STATION, SHE REALIZED THAT THERE WAS WHITE SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. OTHER MOTORISTS NOTICING THIS BECKONED HER TO MOVE OUT OF THE LANE THAT SHE WAS IN TO GO TO THE SHOULDER. AS SHE WAS DOING THIS, SHE REALIZED THAT SHE HAD NO BRAKES. SHE PROCEEDED TO DRIVE TO THE SHOULDER & THEN HAD TO APPLY THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE CAR, THEN TURNED OFF THE IGNITION. WHILE SITTING IN THE CAR CALLING HER BOYFRIEND FOR HELP, SHE WAS HEARING YELLING FROM THE OTHER MOTORISTS TO GET OUT OF THE CAR. NOT UNDERSTANDING WHAT WAS GOING ON, SHE OPENED HER DOOR TO THE SCREAMS OF PEOPLE TELLING HER THAT HER CAR WAS SHOOTING SPARKS FROM THE FRONT & BELOW. AT THAT MOMENT SHE STARTED TO GET SCARED & GOT OUT. SHE SAW THE SPARKS & TOOK A STEP BACK & HEARD A YELL FROM SOMEONE TO GET AWAY FROM THE CAR. SHE STARTED TO WALK AWAY WHEN A LOUD EXPLOSION WAS HEARD. HER BRAND NEW CAR HAD 15 FT. FLAMES COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. NEEDLESS TO SAY , SHE WAS DEVISTATED. EVERYONE AT THE SCENE, STATE POLICE, MECHANIC, & FIRE DEPT. CONCLUDED THAT THIS WAS ELECTRICAL RELATED.AFTER 3 WEEKS OF CONSTANTLY CALLING HONDA,WAITING FOR AN ANSWER, NATURALLY HONDA DISAGREES. THEY SAID THAT THE "PROBABLE CAUSE"....WAS DUE TO A "NON- HONDA" OIL FILTER. AT THIS SITE ALONE I FOUND NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS REGARDING HEAT RELATED ISSUES WITH THE DASHBOARD,ETC.. MY DAUGHTER HAD MENTIONED TO HONDA CITY IN LEVITTOWN,NY THAT THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT WOULDN'T GO OFF. SHE WAS TOLD IT'S "NOTHING" . AS SHE TOOK A FEW STEPS AWAY A LOUD EXPLOSION WAS HEARD.HER BRAND NEW CAR HAD 15FT FLAMES SHOOTING OUT OF IT.SHE WAS DEVESTATED. WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH CONSUMER NOTICED THAT THE TRUNK WAS OPEN . CONSUMER EXAMINED THE VEHICLE, AND FOUND THAT THE LATCHES AND THE HINGES WERE RUSTED. DEALER EXAMINED THE VEHICLE AND SIMPLY PUT WRONG STRAPS ON THE TRUNK TO KEEP IT SHUT.*AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 HONDA ACCORD. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 5-60 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION WOULD SHIFT INTO SECOND GEAR. THE CONTACT HEARD A WHINING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS RELEASED AND GENTLY REAPPLIED, THE TRANSMISSION WOULD SHIFT BACK INTO THE PROPER GEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 04V176000 (POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION) IN 2004. THE FAILURE OCCURRED BEFORE AND AFTER THE RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DUPLICATED OR REPAIRED BY THE DEALER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 117,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 HONDA ACCORD. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE TRANSMISSION; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE EXCEEDED THE MILEAGE TO RECEIVE A NEW TRANSMISSION. THE DEALER INSTALLED IN A NEW OIL JET INSTEAD. CURRENTLY, A NEW TRANSMISSION IS NEEDED AND THE CONTACT FEELS THAT THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD PAY FOR IT INSTEAD OF PAYING 25% OF THE $680 REPAIR COST. SHE FEELS THAT THE DEALER STRUNG HER ALONG UNTIL THE WARRANTY EXPIRED ON THE VEHICLE. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,000.
STARTED FEELING VIBRATION WHEN BRAKING AT 45MPH BEFORE 10,000 MILES. TECHNICIAN LOOKED AT IT, DETERMINED THE ROTORS WERE WARPED, BUT BRAKE PADS WERE FINE. AFTER RESEARCH, FOUND THIS WAS A RECURRING PROBLEM AMONG OWNERS OF 2003 ACCORD, V6 AND 4-CYL. (MINE IS 4CYL). SEEMS LIKE HONDA HAS A PROBLEM! *AK
MY DAUGHTER, TIPHANI GRESHAM AND HER FRIEND, MALGORZATA SWEIGOT WAS DRIVING DOWN JOE POMBO PKWY ABOUT 35 MILES PER HOUR IN TRACY, CALIFORNIA WHEN SHE HEARD A LOUD BANG AND INSTANTLY HER FRIEND'S(THE PASSENGER) HEAD WAS ON HER SHOULDER. THE SIDE PASSENGER AIR BAG AND SEAT BAG HAD DEPLOYED WITHOUT CAUSE WHICH CAUSED CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE TO THE CAR AND PERSONAL INJURY TO THE PASSENGERS. NORMALLY A THREE YEAR OLD RIDES WITH TIPHANI, WHICH IS HER DAUGHTER.(HAILEY) THIS TIME HAILEY WAS NOT THERE, FOR WHICH WE ARE GRATEFUL! TIPHANI IS NOW VERY SCARED TO DRIVE THAT CAR. WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED? OBVIOUSLY THERE IS A DEFECT AND WE WANT THIS INVESTIGATED. HER CAR IS A 2003 HONDA, ACCORD. PLEASE LET US KNOW WHAT YOUR FINDINGS ARE. WHILE DRIVING AT 35 MPH AND WITH OUT WARNING DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED PREMATURELY. CONSUMER CLAIMED THAT THE VEHICLE DID NOT HIT ANYTHING ON THE ROAD.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH AIR BAG LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD AND REMAINED ON. CONSUMER WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND DROVE IT TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. MECHANIC DETTERMINE DTHAT THE CLOCK SPRING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *AK
DURING DRIVING IN FREEWAY SPEEDS EXPERIENCE SHAKING STEERING WHEEL AND TOOK IT TO THE DEALER. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS A BALENCE, THAT DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I CAME BACK THE FOLLOWING WEEK LATER, TOLD THEM TO CHECK MY BRAKES BECAUSE I THOUGHT THAT WAS THE PROBLEM IT TURNS OUT THAT THEY WERE WARPED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE PADS AND TURNED THE ROTORS BUT TOLD THAT IT WAS A ONE TIME ONLY UNDER WARRANTY, AND THAT IT HAPPEND BECAUSE OF MY DRIVING AND MY CONSTANT BRAKING, THAT MADE ME UPSET BECAUSE THEY QUESTIONED HOW I DRIVE. THIS HAS NEVER HAPPEND TO ME UNDER JUST A YEAR OF USE I STRONGLY DISAGREE. *AK
AT HIGH SPEED, SEVERE STEERING WHEEL SHAKE WHEN BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED. ALSO, LOUD GRINDING SOUND WITH LIMITED BRAKING ABILITY. PROGRESSIVELY GOT WORSE FROM NEW UNTIL 21,500 MILES WHERE ALMOST COULDN'T STOP. ABS AND TCS LIGHTS ALSO CAME ON. DEALER SAID HONDA HAS ISSUED A BULLETIN TO REPLACE WITH A LESS AGGRESSIVE UPDATED PAD AND HAD TO ORDER WHEEL MONITORING SENSOR TO FIX LIGHT INDICATOR PROBLEM. DEALER HAD TO CUT ROTOR TO INSTALL NEW PADS.
THE DEALER REPLACED THE FRONT BRAKES AT 6,800 MILES. AT 22,469 MILES, DEALER INDICATED TO THE CONSUMER THAT SHE NEEDS TO REPLACE THE REAR BRAKES AT OWNER'S EXPENSE. *LA
A SMALL STONE HIT MY WINDSHIELD TODAY AND SEEMED TO CAUSE MORE DAMAGE THAN IT SHOULD HAVE. I'VE BEEN DRIVING FOR MANY YEARS AND HAVE HAD MANY ROCKS HIT THE WINDSHIELD. SINCE OWNING MY NEW CAR, THIS IS THE SECOND TIME A SMALL STONE HAS HIT MY WINDOW (DIFFERENT PLACE), AND THE FIRST ONE ALSO SEEMED TO CAUSE MORE DAMAGE THEN IT SHOULD HAVE. THE FIRST TIME, I DIDN'T HAVE TO REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD, BUT I WILL HAVE TO THIS TIME. IT JUST SEEMS VERY UNUSUAL TO ME WITH MY EXPERIENCE AS A DRIVER. THE CAR IS RATHER NEW, AND I'M TWO FOR TWO WITH STONES CAUSING DAMAGE, WHERE AS WITH MY PREVIOUS CARS, MOST TIMES NO DAMAGE HAPPENED UNDER SIMILAR CIRCUMSTANCES.
DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON PAVED 2 LANE ROAD AT 45 MILES PER HOUR. DRIVER'S SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAG AND SIDE AIRBAG ACTIVATED/INFLATED WITHOUT WARNING OR APPARENT CAUSE. REGAINED CONTROL OF THE CAR, BARELY AVOIDING A HEAD-ON COLLISION. DOCTOR'S VISIT 4/28/04 RESULTED IN A DIAGONSIS OF POST TRAUMATIC STRESS RELATED ISSUES (FOGGY HEAD, UNABLE TO FOCUS, HEADACHE, ETC...). CAR DEALER (SERVICE DEPT) PHONE CALL 4/28/04 STATED THAT INCIDENT IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, AS THE AIR BAG SENSOR WAS TRIPPED BY SOMETHING THAT STRUCK THE CAR FROM UNDERNEATH. CAR DEALER (SERVICE DEPT) ALSO STATED THAT A SUDDEN DECREASE IN SPEED WOULD HAVE ALSO BEEN NEEDED TO CAUSE THE AIRBAGS TO RELEASE. THE COST OF REPAIR IS APPROX. $3000 - INSURANCE ESTIMATORS ARE TO EVALUATE TODAY. THE CAR'S OWNER'S MANUAL AS WELL AS SUPPLEMENTAL LITERATURE SUPPLIED AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE STATE THAT THE SIDE AIR BAGS OFFER PROTECTION DURING "MODERATE TO SEVERE SIDE IMPACT".
I'M COMPLAINING ABOUT THE DESIGN FLAW ON THE A/C CONDENSER OF MY 2003 HONDA ACCORD. THE PLACEMENT OF THE CONDENSER IS FLAWED BECAUSE IT IS LOCATED IN THE LOWER FRONT OF THE VEHICLE THAT IS ALWAYS PRONE TO BE HIT BY SMALL PEBBLES WHEN DRIVING NORMALLY ON THE HIGHWAY. THERE IS NO PROTECTION ON THE FREON COILS ON THE CONDENSER AND ANY SMALL PEBLLE COULD HIT IT AND DAMAGED THE COILS AND THE FREON WOULD LEAK. THIS MAKES THE OWNER ALWAYS FINANCIALLY AT RISK THAT THE COILS COULD BE DAMAGED UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITION BECAUSE OF THE DESIGN. THE FINS ON THE CONDENSER DOESN'T EVEN PROTECT THE COILS AND ONLY AFTER DRIVING THE CAR A COUPLE OF MONTHS, I HAVE SEEN A LOT OF PEBBLE DAMAGE ON THE CONDENSER. YESTERDAY A PEBBLE HIT ONE OF THE COILS AND THE FREON ESCAPED, RENDERING MY A/C INOPERABLE. THE SERVICE ADVISOR SEEMS TO PINPOINT RIGHT AWAY THE CAUSE BY POINTING TO ME THE PEBBLE DAMAGE ON THE CONSENDER IN ONLY 10 SECONDS. DOES THIS MEAN THEY HAVE A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS KIND OF PROBLEM?. THEY SAY IT'S NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH THE DESIGN HAS SUBJECTED THE CONDENSER TO BE HITS BY SMALL PEBBLES WHEN DRIVING NORMALLY. DOES THE CONSUMER HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS FLAW. IF I HAD THEM CHANGE THE CONDENSER TODAY AND IT GOT HIT AGAIN TOMORROW, AND NEXT MONTH, ETC, ETC, WHEN WILL THIS FINANCIAL PROBLEM STOP FOR THE CONSUMER?*AK
CONSUMER PURCHASED A 2003 HONDA ACCORD BRAND NEW,AND SINCE THEN IT HAS BEEN RATTLING. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER, AND DEALER REPLACED A FEW THINGS. BUT HAD NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM. CONSUMER DID NOT KNOW WHERE THE SOUND WAS COMING FROM. *AK
CAR WAS IN PARK WITH ENGINE RUNNING ON A FLAT DRIVEWAY. CAR ROLLED DOWN DRIVEWAY ACROSS A STREET, OVER A CURB, ON TO A NEIGHBORS LAWN AND CAME TO REST ON A PILE OF LOGS. ENGINE WAS TILL RUNNING AND CAR WAS STILL IN PARK. FORTUNATELY THERE WAS NO PERSONAL DAMAGE, ALTHOUGH THERE WAS DAMAGE TO THE BACK BUMPER. IT WAS CHECKED OUT BY THE HONDA DEALER, NO PROBLEMS ACCORDING TO THEM ,THEY SUGGESTED USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AT ALL TIMES. I FEEL THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE, I TRULY FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE A CAR COULD ROLL WHEN IN PARK, IT LEAVES ME WITH QUITE A BIT OF DOUBT. *AK
I HAD MY OTHER HONDA FOR OVER 10 YEARS AND I LIKED IT SO MUCH I BOUGHT ANOTHER ONE. NOW I AM HAVING ALL KINDS OF TROUBLE WITH IT. 1. THE AC CONDENSER HAS HOLES ON IT. IT WAS WORKING WHEN I BOUGHT IT. I NOTICED IT NOT WORKING WHEN I TRIED TO USE IT RECENTLY. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER, I WAS TOLD THERE ARE HOLES IN CONDENSER. IT IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND IT WOULD COST ME $500 TO REPLACE IT. THEY CHARGED ME $110 FOR TELLING ME WHAT IS WRONG. I CALLED HONDA AMERICA CUSTOMER SERVICES AND ASKED FOR ASSISTANCE, I WAS TOLD IT WAS MY OWN FAULT AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. PERIOD. 2. THE BODY IS RUSTING. THE PAINT IS COMING OFF THE CAR AND THE UNDERNEATH METAL IS RUSTING. AGAIN THE DEALER TOLD ME THEY DON'T PAINT. I HAVE TO GO TO THE BODY SHOP TO REPAINT IT. THE COST IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. HONDA AMERICA AGAIN DENIED ANY WRONG DESIGN AND HELP I REQUESTED. 3. WIND NOISE AS OF THE DOOR/WINDOW IS NOT CLOSED PROPERLY. DEALER CLAIMS COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG AND THEY DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO HAVE A TEST DRIVE WITH ME. 4. CLICKING NOISE WHEN I SHIFT GEAR FROM REVERSE TO DRIVE. I THOUGHT IT WAS TOO MINOR TO MENTION TO THE DEALER 5. DON'T FORGET THE RECALLS FOR IN-TAKE BREATH PIPE AND NO-REVERSE CONDITION BESIDES A FLIMSY PRODUCT, THE DEALER AND HONDA AMERICA CUSTOMER SERVICES IS NO HELP AT ALL. IS THERE ANYTHING WE CAN DO TO MAKE THEM RESPONSIBLE? THIS WILL BE THE LAST HONDA THAT I OWN
I WASH THE VEHICLE WEEKLY AND ON MY WEEKLY WASH I REALIZED THAT THE PAINT WAS PEELING. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO MY HONDA DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY SAID THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE. THE CAR AT THE TIME WAS ONLY 1 YEAR OLD. NOW THERE ARE VARIOUS AREAS ON THE CAR WHERE THE PAINT IS PEELING.*AK
MY 2003 ACCORD EX V-6 HAS DEVELOPED A LOUD POPPING OR CREAKING SOUND FROM BENEATH THE DRIVER'S SIDE FLOOR PAN EVERY TIME I ACCELERATE, DECELERATE, OR TURN INTO A CORNER. THE DEALER TOLD ME IT WAS NORMAL WHEN I FIRST OFFICIALLY COMPLAINED AT 7,000 MILES, BUT AS TIME HAS PASSED, THE NOISE HAS GOTTEN WORSE. THE DEALER HAS ATTEMPTED TO FIX IT 5 TIMES, BUT HAS NOT YET FOUND A SOLUTION. WITH SOME RESEARCH, I DISCOVERED A HONDA SERVICE BULLETIN (03-058) THAT STATES BODY WELDS WERE IMPROPERLY FINISHED DURING THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS, AND THAT THE STRUCTURE MUST BE RE-WELDED. MY DEALER TOLD ME THERE WAS "EXCESS FLEX" IN THE BODY OF MY CAR, AND AS A RESULT, MULTIPLE SQUEAKS AND RATTLES ARE DEVELOPING. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SEVERE STRUCTURAL FAULT THAT IS PUTTING MY SAFETY AT RISK IN THE CASE OF A CRASH AND WILL CONTINUE TO CAUSE DAMAGE TO MY CAR DUE TO BODY FLEX FOR YEARS TO COME. I HAVE REQUESTED THAT HONDA REPLACE THE CAR. *JB

RETURNED CAR TO HONDA OF BOWIE 7 DAYS LATER FOR VIBRATION IN STEERING WHEEL WHILE DRIVING ABOVE 40 MI PER HOUR. DEALERSHIP BALANCED FRONT TIRES AT NO CHARGE. RETURNED CAR TO HONDA OF BOWIE ON JUNE28, 2003 WITH 8287 MILES FOR STEERING WHEEL VIBRATION WHEN BRAKING. I WAS TOLD THE FRONT ROTORS WERE SLIGHTLY WARPED AND DEALER RESURFACED ROTORS FREE OF CHARGE. PROBLEM REOCCURRED AT AROUND 15,000 MILES BUT DID NOT GET CAR IN FOR SERVICE UNTIL MILEAGE WAS 18,003 ON APRIL 9, 2004. TOOK IT TO COLLEGE PARK HONDA WHERE I PURCHASED AND EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM. BEFORE LOOKING AT CAR SERVICE REP TOLD ME IT WAS PROBABLY DUE TO MY DRIVING HABITS (LOTS OF STOP AND GO). I HAVE HAD THE SAME COMMUTE FOR OVER 10 YEARS AND NEVER HAD THIS KIND OF PROBLEM BEFORE. I SAID I'D BE VERY UNHAPPY IF I HAD TO REPLACE THE BRAKES AT 18,000 MILES. SERVICE REP SAID IT WAS VERY COMMON TO REPLACE BRAKES AND ROTORS AT 18,000 MILES. I REITERATED MY UNHAPPINESS IF I WAS GOING TO HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. I BELIEVED IT SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. AFTER INSPECTING THE BRAKES I WAS TOLD THE FRONT ROTORS WERE GLAZED AND THE PAD WERE CRACKED. THEY RESURFACED THE ROTORS (THAT'S TWICE IN 10,000 MILES) AND REPLACED THE PADS UNDER WARRANTY AS A "ONE TIME COURTESY". THE PROBLEM CAME BACK WITHIN 7 DAYS OF THE REPAIR. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT TO TAKE MY CAR BACK TODAY ( 4 WEEKS TO THE DAY SINCE THEY WORKED ON IT). I BELIEVE THE ROTORS ARE DEFECTIVE OR HAVE BEEN RESURFACED TOO MUCH AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. I AM EXPECTING THAT THEY WILL TRY TO TELL ME THIS IS SOMEHOW MY FAULT AND EXPECT ME TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. I HAVE A 2003 ACCORD THAT STARTED TO SHOW THE REAR BRAKE PADS WERE EXCESSIVELY WORN AT 12,000 MILES. AT THE 18 MONTH SERVICING, MY MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT MY REAR BRAKES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT 19,000. I HAD THE BRAKE PADS REPLACED AT MY COST BECAUSE MY MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT THE BRAKES WERE NOT SAFE TO BE DRIVEN ON. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALER WHERE I HAD PURCHASED IT. THE SERVICE MANAGER STATED THAT IT MAY BE DUE TO "THE WAY THAT I DRIVE THE CAR". THIS IS THE THIRD HONDA ACCORD THAT I HAVE PURCHASED SINCE 1995, AND I HAVE REPLACED REAR BRAKES ON THE FIRST ACCORD DUE TO A BROKEN SPRING AT 72,000 MILES. I HAVE HAD AT LEAST 10 NEW CARS IN MY LIFETIME AND HAVE NOT HAD TO REPLACE THE REAR BRAKES, EXCEPT FOR THE INCIDENT MENTIONED ON THE CAR WITH 72,000 MILES. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE WITH THE BRAKES GOING UP IN SUCH A SHORT SPAN OF TIME. I AM ALSO WONDERING IF I WILL NEED TO REPLACE THEM AGAIN EVERY 19,000 MILES? I PURCHASED MY NEW 2003 HONDA ACCORD LX COUPE IN APR 2003. IN DEC 2003, I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED TO LEAVE MY CAR THERE BECAUSE OF THE BRAKES. THEY REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER. LESS THAN 4 MONTHS LATER, WHILE IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, THE BRAKES FAILED AS MY FOOT NEARLY WENT COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR. I SHIFTED THE GEARS DOWN AND WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR THAT WAY, NO ACCIDENT. I TOOK MY CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPT (IT WAS A THURSDAY). THE NEXT DAY THEY CALLED ME AND SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. I INSISTED THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG. WHEN I WENT TO PICK UP THE CAR, I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE REPAIR PERSON THAT THE MECHANIC DECIDED TO PROBE FURTHER DUE TO MY INSISTANCE AND HE SUBSEQUENTLY FOUND AIR BUBBLES IN THE BRAKE FLUID. THEY BLED MY BRAKES. THAT FOLLOWING MONDAY, SOMETHING ELSE WENT WRONG. AT THE TIME I BELIEVED THE PROBLEM TO BE THE BRAKES, BUT NOW I AM NOT SO SURE. WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE AT MY APARTMENT, IT FELT AS THOUGH THE BRAKES SLIPPED. MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, BUT IT DID NOT STOP; IT ALMOST SEEMED AS THOUGH THE CAR SPED UP A LITTLE, WHILE MY FOOT WENT TO THE FLOOR. IN A PANIC, I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND PRESSED IT AGAIN. I HEARD THE TIRES SQUEAL, BUT BY THAT POINT IT WAS TOO LATE. I ENDED UP HITTING A POLE. STATE FARM HAD MY CAR EVALUATED TO DETERMINE IF THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED THE ACCIDENT. I TOOK IT TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP SHOP, BUT ONLY UNDER THE CONDITION THAT THE STATE FARM INSPECTOR CHECK THE CAR WITH THEM. THIRTY MINUTES INTO THE INSPECTION THE STATE FARM INSPECTOR LEFT AND MY CAR WAS SUBSEQUENTLY LEFT FOR APPROX 1-1/2 HOURS SOLEY WITH THE DEALERSHIP . AT THE END OF THE 2-HOUR INSPECTION, I WAS TOLD NO PROBLEMS WITH MY BRAKES. I NOW DRIVE MY CAR FEARFULLY, HOPING THAT NOTHING ELSE WILL GO WRONG. *AK

2003 HONDA ACCORD (EX) CONSISTENTLY PULLS TO THE RIGHT. VEHICLE DRIFTS AT MEDIUM SPEED (35-45 MPH) AND IS ACCOMPANINED BY VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL. STEERING IS REMARKABLY LESS RESPONSIVE, PARTICULARLY IN RIGHT TURNS. ALL-WHEEL ALIGNMENT AND BALANCING OF TIRES DID NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM, AND IN FACT HAS MADE THE PROBLEM MORE NOTICEABLE. LOSS OF CONFIDENCE IN THE RELIABILITY OF THE VEHICLES STEERING SYSTEM BRINGS INTO QUESTION ITS SAFETY ON THE ROAD. I THOUGHT THE HONDA DEALERSHIP IN OMAHA HAD DAMAGED THE BRAKES WHILE FIXING THE ABS SYSTEM DUE TO A RECALL. I NOW SEE IT WAS PROBABLY A DESIGN FLAW--SINCE SO MANY OTHER OWNERS OF THIS MODEL HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME THING. NOW THE BRAKES NEED REPLACEMENT, AND I WILL ASK FOR NON-HONDA PARTS. IN 3-04 (1 YEAR OLD -APPROXIMATELY) NOTICED A NOISE IN FRONT(WOBBLING/METALLIC)AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. COULD NOT DETERMINE IF NOISE WAS COMING FROM THE FRONT/BACK BUT APPEARED TO BE LOUDER IN FRONT. RETURNED VEHICLE TO DEALER (4-9-04) BUT THEY FAILED TO FIND ANY PROBLEM. PROBLEM REMAINED CONSISTENT, DID NOT WORSEN SIGNIFICANTLY DURING THE NEXT 8-10 MONTHS. SOMETIME IN EARLY 2005, NOISE BEGAN TO GET WORSE. BROUGHT TO A REPAIR SHOP. CAUSE COULD NOT BE LOCATED BUT DETERMINED THAT BACK LEFT REAR TIRE WAS WEARING UNEVENLY AND IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT POSSIBLY TIRES HAD BEEN ROTATED INCORRECTLY IN 2004. BACK-WHEEL ALIGNMENT WAS PERFORMED AND NEW TIRES WERE PURCHASED IN MAY 05. NOISE APPEARED TO SUBSIDE. IN LATE 05, NOISE RETURNED & BEGAN TO WORSEN. ALTHOUGH BRAKES HAD APPROXIMATELY 30% WEAR STILL LEFT ON THEM, REPLACED THEM IN 12/05. TOOK VEHICLE TO LOCAL SHOP ON 3/10/06. NEW TIRES HAD WORN ON THE LEFT REAR BUT CAUSE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. RETURNED TO THE DEALER ON 3/17 WHO DETERMINED THAT 3 OF 4 WHEELS HAD DEFECTIVE WHEEL BEARINGS. IT WAS RECOMMENDED THAT THE LEFT FRONT AND LEFT REAR BE REPLACED IMMEDIATELY AND THAT THE RIGHT FRONT BE REPLACED IN NEAR FUTURE. WE HAD THE DEALER REPLACE THE TWO LEFT BEARINGS AND HAD A LOCAL MECHANIC REPLACE THE RF ON 3/24/06. A 2ND BACK WHEEL ALIGNMENT WAS PERFORMED/NEW SET OF TIRES NOW NEEDED. THE DEALER HAS INDICATED THIS IS A RARE FAILURE. HARD TO BELIEVE THAT SOMETHING THIS "RARE" CAN OCCUR ON 3 WHEELS UNLESS PRODUCT IS DEFECTIVE. INTERNET CONTAINS MULTIPLE CASES OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE ACCORD (VAR. YEARS). IN SOME INSTANCES, BEARINGS HAD TO BE REPLACED MULTIPLE TIMES! ALMOST ALL DRIVING IS AT HWY SPEEDS. VEHICLE HAS APPROX. 87000 MILES ON IT WE DID NOT RETURN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AFTER THEY FAILED TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM INITIALLY BECAUSE WE LIVE MORE THAN 120 MILES (ROUND TRIP) FROM OUR HOME AND IT REQUIRES THAT I TAKE A DAY OFF OF WORK TO RETURN THE VEHICLE TO THEM. *JB

I AM NOW AT 16,000 MILES AND THE CAR STILL HAS THE FOUL ODOR. I CALLED HONDA AGAIN AND THEY TOLD ME TO WAIT UNTIL THE WEATHER BREAKS AND IN THE SPRING TIME IF IT STILL SMELLS TO BRING IT IN. THE SMELL IS SO BAD THAT IT SMELLS NOT ONLY ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE CAR BUT ON THE INSIDE TOO. I TOOK THE CAR IN ANYWAY, EVEN THOUGH HONDA RECOMMENDED TO WAIT A FEW MORE MONTHS. NEEDLESS TO SAY, THEY DID ADMIT TO FINDING A BULLETIN FOR THE HONDA ACCORDS STATING THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS NEED TO BE CHANGED AND THEY NEED TO SEAL LEAKS IN THE CAR. THEY HAVE TO NOW ORDER THE PART AND SCHEDULE ANOTHER DATE TO FIX THE PROBLEM.*AK
SINCE PURCHASING MY BRAND NEW 2003 HONDA ACCORD IN JUNE 2003, THERE HAS BEEN A SEVERE GRINDING AND VIBRATION COMING FROM THE BRAKES. I HAVE GONE BACK AND FORTH TO THE DEALER (HERB CHAMBERS, BURLINGTON, MA) 4 TIMES FOR THE PROBLEM. FIRST THEY GROUND THE ROTORS (THE CAR WAS ONLY 2 MONTHS OLD). THE PROBLEM STILL OCCURED AND I BROUGHT IT BACK A WEEK LATER AND THE "SUPPOSEDLY" REPLACED THE ROTORS AND PADS BUT THEY REFUSED TO LET ME SEE THE OLD PARTS WHEN I REQUESTED THEM. PROBLEM HAS BEEN GETTING WORSE AND WE BROUGHT IT BACK AGAIN TWICE IN FEBRUARY AND THE DEALER INSISTS THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES. THEY ONLY DROVE IT 1 -2 MILES EACH TIME. THE PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT AND THE CAR MUST BE DRIVEN ALL THE TIME AS MY FAMILY DOES. I ALREADY HAD A MINOR ACCIDENT WHEN THE BRAKES DID NOT STOP AT ALL AT ONLY 5 MPH. I WROTE HONDA APPLYING THE MASSACHUSETTS LEMON LAW AND THEY IGNORED IT. I RECEIVED NOTHING IN WRITING OF THEIR FINDINGS. I WENT TO AN INDEPENDENT BRAKE SPECIALIST WHO LOOKED AT THE BRAKES AND SAID HE DIDN'T THINK THEY WERE REPLACED - ONLY TURNED. I THEN WENT TO ANOTHER HONDA DEALER WHO SAYS THAT HONDA IS WELL AWARE OF THE BRAKE PROBLEM (SEVERE GRINDING AND VIBRATION) AND ARE DOING NOTHING ABOUT IT. A CUSTOMER SERVICE REP NAMED MARK KEEPS CALLING US BUT FOR A WEEK, EVERY TIME WE CALL HIM BACK, WE GET HIS VOICE MAIL AND HE NEVER CALLS US. THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. THE CAR IS A LEMON AND THE NHTSA WEBSITE SHOWS MANY OTHERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. HONDA WON'T DO ANYTHING UNLESS SOMEONE GETS KILLED. THEY NEED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM. I HAVE COMPLAINED TO THE BBB IN MASSACHUSETTS AS WELL AS THE ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE. I HAVE ALSO PLACED CALLS TO THE THREE LOCAL MEDIA STATIONS AND MY ATTORNEY. *AK
MY 2003 ACCORD MAKES A CLUNKING NOISE WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A COLD START, ACCELERATING FROM A STOPLIGHT, ACCELERATING AFTER TURNING A CORNER, AND ACCELERATING, AND ON THE FREEWAY WHEN PASSING ANOTHER VEHICLE. AFTER SEVERAL REPAIR ATTEMPTS, MY LOCAL SERVICE DEPARTMENT DIAGNOSED THIS AS BEING CAUSED BY THE ABS SYSTEM AND THAT I SHOULD CONSIDER IT A NORMAL CHARACTERISTIC OF THE AUTOMOBILE UNTIL A FIX IS FOUND BY HONDA. MOST RECENTLY, THE ABS, THE TCS, AND THE BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON. SERVICE DEPARTMENT STATED THAT IT WAS A FALSE CODE AND THAT THERE WAS NO PROBLEM WITH THE ABS SYSTEM.

CAR DOES NOT START UP IMMEDIATELY WHEN I TURN THE KEY (PARTICULARLY IN COLD WEATHER). TURNS OVER, BUT SEEMS ALMOST AS IF IT IS NOT GOING TO START. ONDA SERVICE MANAGER TELLS ME 10-15 SECONDS OF CRANK TIME IS CONSIDERED NORMAL.*AK HOWEVER, I DON'T THINK THIS IS NORMAL.
FRONT BRAKE ROTORS CONTINUE TO WARP. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE INTO HONDA 4 TIMES SINCE OWNING THE VEHICLE AND THE ROTORS HAVE BEEN RESURFACED AND NEW BRAKE PADS PUT ON. THE FRONT BRAKE ROTORS HAVE NEVER BEEN REPLACED. THE VIBRATION IS VERY BAD WHEN BRAKING. *TT
